Dang, I hate to rain on this five-star parade for Hanks, but does everyone agree that it's "as good as it gets" (which is what five stars means)? It's good, yes. Tasty. Appropriately greasy. Oversized portions. But, really now .... there are better burgers to be had in Tulsa. Hanks should be on anyone's "try it" list, but then move on and try others reviewed on Yelp. I suspect you'll find other places even more to your liking.

Tried this off of the recommendations and wasn't disappointed. Small burger joint good food. Had the single with cheese and fried okra, it was nice to have another option from the typical fries or tots. They also have chili cheese fries/tots as well which a friend said was very good. Don't except to get your food quickly so have a seat and enjoy. Saw more people ordering take away since the place only had 5 4 person booths and 5 or 6 2 person booths, although we had not problem finding a seat. Will go back.

For a greasy burger joint, this place is great! I suggest ordering the big-okie. I believe it has 4 or 5 patties. It's a filler. Overall, this a true american burger joint. Lunch can be hectic during the work week. One tip: If you are ordering to-go, use the front window only. If you are dining-in, go in and use the register line. This can be confusing when there are 20 people waiting around the front of the restaurant for to-go orders.

Hank's is right on par with it's old time burger joint appeal and taste. The burgers are loaded with all your favorites and the price isn't an issue. Great place to stop and have some lunch if your around north Tulsa.

One of the best burgers in town, (if not the best). Feels like it has been there 60 years, and that's probably because it has. People are very nice and make you feel welcome.

Freakin sweet! It's a locally owned place and it's got good prices, the burgers are awesome and you can get them as big as you want. Watch the hours though, they aren't open on Mondays, and the area isn't the best. I like going there for lunch and it's always got a lot of people there.

Hanks special is THE best deal. For an old fashioned burger meal there is not a better place in T-town. Been coming here since the 70's and while the workers have changed the quality is still strong. Some days only the Hanks Special will do, 1/2 lb burger with fries and a drink. If you want it a little faster take 2 1/4 lb patties rather than the single 1/2 pound patty. Service is consistent,as is the food. The place is small and divey looking but it is clean. A lot of orders are to go so while it seems nobody is there the grill is probably full of to go orders. Have patience, it will be worth it.

So I owe the people at Hanks an apology for my previous review. They do in fact use fresh meat for their patties and we really enjoyed our food on this visit. We will definitely be back!

If you like home style amazing burgers this is the pace Togo. I went this past weekend and I will never eat at McDonalds or burger king again. They have great prices and great customer service. What's sad is you can spend the same amount of money at burger king for two people as you can here but at hanks you can wayyy better quality food and more food for your bucks! I recommend the double cheeseburger with tots and a Vanilla Malt

A Tulsa cultural experience that I hope will never die! Original hamburgers and sides true to form. Chili is good, don't pass it up if you on the fence.

I've been on a bit of a "vintage burger joint" kick of late, so I thought I'd give Hank's a try since I'd never been before. In all honesty, I hadn't even heard of the place until recently, despite growing up in Tulsa. Admiral between Memorial and Mingo isn't an area I frequent much, so maybe that would account for it. In any case, it was certainly worth the short trek over from work today. I opted for the "Hank's Special," with cheese on the burger and the old standard of fries as the side. The half-pound burger can be ordered as a single patty or two, the former apparently taking almost twice as long to cook. I went with the latter and had to wait a little under ten minutes to get my order. Not a problem at all, and it shows at least that they're cooking 'em up fresh and proper per customer. And, man, they do make a mean burger! Greasy and filling, yes, but seriously tasty. The fries certainly weren't short on their share of oil either (as the stains on the checkered wrapper did attest), but Hank's makes them well too. I was considering trying out one of their shakes or malts before arriving, but decided against it. In hindsight, I'm glad I did this time, as the burger and fries kept me pretty full even into the evening. But that's definitely on the agenda for another time. Unquestionably a Tulsa classic worth paying a visit to. It's someplace I'll be returning to again for sure as well.

Simply the best burger you will sink your teeth into in the state of Oklahoma if not the whole USA! This old hamburger stand is clean and run by the nicest people. Go for a double a triple or heck try the "big Okie" 6 patties! If you are in Tulsa try the burger Waylon Jennings would fly in with his wife to have on their anniversary.

On our trip back to OKC we were looking for a place different but not to far off the highway, we found a Gold Mine with Hank's. They have a walk up for To Go orders and a regular spot to sit on the inside. Not a ton of room but the food is worth it. The wait was short, all of the meal was fresh, and the "Redneck Fire Alarm" made me laugh. I ordered the double with cheese & bacon with regular fries and a drink. The burger was perfect and the staff was extremely friendly. We loved this place and will definitely go back the next time we are in Tulsa.

Holy cow. After Crabill's hamburgers in my hometown, Blimpie Burger in Ann Arbor, and the infamous Telway in Detroit, I thought I had seen the extent of a great burger. Boy, was I wrong. Hank's is a joint on the old routing for US-66 as it runs through the east end of Tulsa. The place looks like if was at one time paired with an old filling station and service shop. The service shop has long since closed but Hank's has continued on. Hank's special is a half pound burger dressed with mustard, pickles, either fried or raw onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and cheese at your option. The bun itself is perfection - toasted amazingly well on the griddle and the meat is flavorful and juicy. It's a very, very satisfying burger, and is executed very well. Burgers are available from one patty (1/4 pound), up through six (the Big Okie, 1.5 lbs of beef!); fries, tater tots, or fried okra; and you can get shakes and malts too. Of course, if you've been around since 1946, you're certainly doing SOMETHING right. Hours are a little limited, but otherwise, it's an excellent meal!

Touted as the best burger in Oklahoma, I had to try it. Pretty tasty. I liked that it came with both raw onions and fried ones that were cooked with the burger. Oddly enough, this little mixture made a big difference and It gave the burger a great taste. The chili cheese fries were delish. Between these and earlier ones I had in Norman, OK, I do believe Oklahoma makes the best chili cheese fries in the world. The chocolate malt was yummy. The folks serving were polite and attentive. They said "Thank you for coming" when we left, greeted me when I arrived, and asked if everything was good while eating. Unfortunately, I have become accustomed to the new wave of customer service out there....namely to be treated as if I should thank the clerk for giving my money over to them, but they should not thank me for the business. I was very impressed that manners still exist in Tulsa. It may seem as if I am giving my rating based on treatment rather than food, but it is amazing how simple niceties can make a good lunch into a great one.

Thank you Yelpers for steering us in the right direction! Wanted to eat somewhere heading back to OKC- didn't want a chain fast food place. Loved the Rt. 66 kitsch feel, food was fantastic! Really unique breading on the onion rings, they were light & crispy!

  • Y S.

Loved this place! Owners are super nice and the food is delicious! We got there an hour before closing and they were having to close early because they were running out of food. You know that means they were busy which we know why.. YUMMY!

  • Brad B.

Wr were in Tulsa for a convention. We wanted a non-chain burger joint. Hanks was only 4 miles from the hotel. I knew the food was good as soon as we pulled up---parking was at a premium--It was small only seating about 20-25 people. I ordered a single & well done tater tots. My friend ordered the special. Our order was brought to the table in a timely manner. The burger was juicy & tasted great. The tots were done perfectly. Staff came around & refilled beverages. Hanks has been there since 1949 so obviously the building isn't new but it was clean. I recommend Hanks to any burger lover. If you live in Tulsa and haven't been to Hanks--shame on you !!!

I have eaten here many times and have always been impressed with their burgers. Onion fried, good patty, good grease, good garnish. I always have the onion burger, tots, and chocolate shake. It's a great combo. The place is packed at lunch so go early or late. I would have to place Hank's in the top 3 burgers in Tulsa. Can't wait to hit Route 66 and have another Hank's.

Fughettaboutit! By far the best burger I've had since I moved here last Aug. It's an experience. The smell, crunch on outside, juicy on the inside and perfectly toasted bun will make your taste buds crave for more. A burger that stays nice and warm till the last bite. Ahhhwhoooooooo!

  • Allen B.

Better than a fast food burger, but I've had better burgers. So in short, for the price go here for your burger instead of wataburger or Burger King

I love me a good hamburger. My family is from a small hamlet in Germany, close to where hamburgers were first created. They were lettuce farmers in the fields outside of Hamburg. My great-great-great-great grandfather sold lettuce to-then studied under-the inventor himself, Otto Kuase. I have pedigree here, is what I'm saying. Yeaaaaahhhh.....none of that is true. Well, except the first thing. I do like me some burgers....nay....I looooooooove hamburgers. And Hank's makes a mean one. This joint has been around(on old Route 66, no less) since our grandfathers were chasing loose women, racing classic cars down strips, and all around being the Clint Eastwood's we know them to be. That's history, right there folks. And you don't stay around that long without having a good product. I walked in at lunch time, on a Tuesday, and the place was packed. With regulars. You could tell by how they all turned to me with that look of "who's THIS guy?" when I walked in. Which was fine. I love places like this. As for the burger itself? The thing melts in your mouth with each bite. It's glorious. Seriously. All the good. It's juicy, seasoned to perfection, and hot. Just like your Grandma(ask Grandad). A hamburger that stands the test of time. Go here and be amazed.

Great traditional Okie Burger. If you are looking for a simple yet mouth watering burger, this is it.

  • John D.

Tiny burger joint, huge burgers, greasy tater tots. Burgers are thick, well dressed, and tasty. Seating is at a premium and you'll go back to work smelling like grease. Totally worth the trip. Everything is made to order so service is not fast, but it's friendly. Bring cash, I didn't see a card machine.

I was at my hotel watching TV and saw the news report on Hank's on how good it was. Having a special place in my heart for hamburgers I made it a point to visit. When I checked Yelp it had pretty good reviews although there were not many. Going to the restaurant the staff was really friendly. I really wanted to like the burger. Unfortunately, the burger and fries was mediocre at best. The first red flag was when I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger, the woman runs to the back to get the bacon and comes back with a clear plastic labeled package that contained pre-cooked bacon. The second but smaller red flag was the patties. They were all portioned out individually in white papers like when you purchase patties from a Costco or Kroger. Regardless, I still had an open mind with the burger. It had raw and cooked onions(which I love,) lettuce, tomato and mustard. The burger though was bland. It lacked flavor. The burger was also dry. They cook all burgers well done. It felt like a brick hitting my stomach. I almost didn't finish the burger. As a side note, the fries seem like they are frozen. I really wish I liked the burger as the staff was friendly. I just wonder as an area that has an abundance of meat, why would you not have a great hand crafted patty with quality? Why not have fresh bacon? Who do they know in Tulsa broadcasting that got them a spot on TV as a great burger place? I would normally give a place a second chance. But, if the ingredients you start out with are sub-par, how great could it ever be?

  • Jed L.

It's been said you can tell a good burger joint by whether or not they have tater-tots. Well, Hanks has tater-tot - really good ones. Had regular fare - cheeseburger, tater-tots and a milk shake. Everything was, as expected, very very good. Only complaint is that they charge a quarter for drink refills, which is bad enough, but the cup was filled with ice way past the ice line.

    (4)
  • Carl C.

I had the okie dokie burger 1 1/2 lb burger. Man it was good. Try it if you can finish it. The family who owns it were very sweet people. Really great burger. Only down to the meal is refill on drink is cents but still a good deal. Try this place you won't be disappointed.

This place is a diamond in the ruff. Old style cheeseburgers at its finest. The bigger the better try the okie dokie it's the bomb! My mom told me Hank used to sit in the window chopping onions and grilling burgers and she said today even with hank gone they are the best in town!

Was good but burger was pretty dry and seemed overcooked. I was a little disappointed because of the high reviews, still a decent burger and I would try it again.

The very best burger I have ever had. Perfect little dive joint located in an industrial area found it completely by mistake. Well worth going out of your way for! We stop every time we go through Tulsa!

Great greasy burger place. I had the Double Cheeseburger and tots. Honestly it reminded me of a What A Burger, but definitely much better. The people were super nice and it was not expensive. About $10 for me. You should try it out.

since this is the meaning of two stars... Meh. I've experienced better. It's good, not great. And I'm probably knocking it down a star just because so many gave it five stars. Good stuff, but bring your hand sanitizer

Driving along I-40 towards Texas and looking for something to eat. The guide book RoadFood led me to Hanks. Along old Route 66 this is one special stop. The burgers were one of the best and the shakes made with real ice cream, what can I say. When in Tulsa stop at Hanks

    (5)
  • Suzie M.

WOW!!! This place is great. The service is really good. Burgers are out of this world. Good rings. I always bum a sip of the wonderful shakes but am always too full for my own. Go now, Go often!

  • Rod M.

I tried Hank's for the first time and I liked it. The people who worked there were very nice and friendly. I ordered a double but a single would have satisfied me. The burgers were wider than I expected but tasty. Of course they were greasy but that's what makes it good. There is limited seating but it's cozy. The smell of grilled onions throughout the place doesn't hurt either. I am sure I will be back again.

  • Nicole C.

I grew up eating Hank's burgers and they were so good. I just recently moved back to Tulsa and ate there for the first time in years and it was still just as delicious as I remembered. I think the best part about their burgers is that they cook the onions in the meat.

    (4)
  • Matt O.

If you don't eat here you obviously hate America. I got the okie dokie. 6 patties equaling 1.5 pounds of heavenly bliss in my mouth. Probably the best day of my life. #hankypanky

Been eating at Hanks for over 35 years back when Hank's son Roger was cooking them and Hank's wife Ruby was waiting the counter. Back then there were only a few stools at the counter and there was always a waiting line for a stool. The hamburgers were good back then and taste pretty much the same today even though Roger and Ruby are now gone. I've put down many Hank's Special burgers in those 35 years and enjoyed every one of them. If you're looking for fast and cheap little burgers then head on down the road to McDonald's. If you are looking for a hamburger that is cooked the same way it was for the past 50 years and tastes great then you need to walk into Hank's. Their fries, tots and okra are also great. The new folks have introduced a homemade peanut butter and chocolate thing that puts you right over the top. Hank's is a great place to sample some Tulsa history, one bite at a time. Enjoy!!!

  • Donna H.

I didn't know if I was supposed to order at the window inside the first door or go past the second door and order at the counter. I opted for door number two and they asked me if my order was for here or to go. I wanted to love this place, but didn't. I was impressed they had a write up from the New York Times hanging on the wall. We liked the burgers and will go back, but it isn't the perfect hamburger from yesteryear that we have been looking for. The burger needed salt and pepper, my husband who never adds salt was the one that noticed it needed something. My husband liked the ff and tt, I didn't. A couple of times there was an old grease smell that I didn't like, but my husband that's what makes it a hamburger joint. I sat at the table that let me watch the girl make the malts. They use soft serve icecream and put in Hershey's chocolate or strawberry syrup and mix it with an immersion blender. BTW, Hanks Special is an immense hamburger, 1/2 pound. I will get a single next time...and a coke. :-)

    (3)
  • Betty C.

Solid burgers, tater tots and very good onion rings. Get a double and split it as the bread, onions and tomato cover up the beef flavor too much on a single. Service is a bit slow as the kitchen sequencing could use a visit from some efficiency experts. We were seated at a two top right by the kitchen and could see the mix-up of orders and reviewing and re-reviewing of whose order went with what toppings and sides.

I love Hank's. This place is a Tulsa treasure. If you are new to Tulsa, this is one burger place that the locals go to. This place has it all, diner charm, atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food. If you are looking for a divey, 50s/60s nostalgia diner that is legit, and has good food - Hank's is the place you need to go. If you are overwhelmed by the menu, ask the staff what they like. They always have great recommendations. I love their cheeseburger and chocolate milkshake. Seriously, this is good stuff. Go in, sit a little, enjoy the sizzle of meat, smell the frying onions, and eat one of the best grease-burgers of your life. Again, I cannot emphasize enough how good this place is. Be a part of the tradition that is Hank's and don't forget to look them up on Youtube. There are some great clips from Discover Oklahoma' that feature Hank's!

Great old fashion burger! I enjoyed the burger and onion rings, but my favorite part of the meal was the chocolate peanut butter balls. Exactly what it sounds like, but man, it was good! Amazing little hole-in-the-wall!

I think I just had the best burger and fries I've ever had and I've been around for a while. Visiting Tulsa on business, Yelp led me to Hanks for a 4 pm lunch/dinner and I ordered the special. Burger with 2 four oz. patties, fries and a soda. It Exceeded my expectations and my taste buds are still savoring the lingering flavor celebration. If you ever come to Tulsa, come to Hanks,

  • Patt G.

I came to Hank's because of an article in the Tulsa World of the best burger places in town. I was really looking forward to it, as I love burgers but sadly, I cannot give this place a good recommendation. The people at the restaurant were nice enough but this is about the worst food I've had since I moved to Tulsa. I ordered the single with cheese and the patty was so thin, I could barely taste the meat. They use a large bun (which they also grill, although I wish they hadn't. It would have been nice if they had asked me how I wanted it), which is too big for the meat. I doubt that even McDonald's uses burgers this thin. I ordered it with raw onions (I never saw any), pickles (there were two, very small slices) and mustard. I also ordered a side of onion rings, which were over cooked. I guess the way to get a satisfying burger is to order a double or triple or more but I shouldn't have to do that. I prefer just the single with cheese. It should come with enough meat to satisfy.

  • Blake G.

Ok if your a burger connoisseur like me you would love this little place, it off admiral or old Route 66. Like most mom and pop burger places in town have fries but they have tots which is a plus and okra, onion rings. The place has been around for years the burgers range from single to the big okie so delicious They also have chicken sandwiches and corn dogs and Frito-chili pies and don't forget there malts or shakes ask for extra malt so good open Monday thru Saturday 1030 to 7pm closed Sunday like I always say "if there is grease at the bottom of the bag it going to be a good burger"

  • B W.

Fantastic old school burger joint. Family owned and still family operated. The burger was great all natural grass fed. Lots of choices. Don't complain about the size as you get the choice of about 1/4 pound to 1 pound or more. Awesome toasted bun and the burger is legit with crisp edges cooked on an old school flat top grill. I added bacon and jalapeño to mine along with grilled onion. Fantastic with fries and a coke.

    (5)

Fantastic burgers & service! If you're looking for an old school feel with good people and good eats, hit up Hanks!

  • Amanda S.

I was expecting a great cheeseburger based on the reviews but was greatly let down. The website states that they use fresh ingredients but everything I ate tastes frozen and lacking flavor. The meat patty was chewy, thin and lacking quality. The fries were bad and had no flavor at all. The bun was over toasted which added a burnt flavor to my cheeseburger. I hardly tasted any cheese at all, they must use very thin slices. This cheeseburger was very mediocre. When I called and politely asked for my money back Denis didn't try to correct the situation at all, he rudely told me not to eat here again and then hung up on me. CONCLUSION: FRIES SUCK, MEAT SUCKS, & DENIS'S CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS.

Great place. Great service. Did not like the buns. I think the buns make the burger. First time there and they got my order wrong. Burger is fine but taste like a normal backyard burger.

This is a somewhat legendary burger place in Tulsa. Since 1949 according to the sign. I happened to be in the area and gave it a try. No doubt, a really good fresh burger. I'm not sure I could call it the best burger in town, but I can definitely say it's in the top 5...Really friendly owners.

We made it two days in a row for Tulsa burgers. Felt we owed it to ourselves. Our second one was Hank's. This is another iconic place, and is a little bit better able to handle a small crowd than Bill's, but not by a lot. On a Saturday in December, it was not busy at all, although there was a lot of carryout business. I don't know how to call a favorite between Bill's and Hank's. I'm not sure it is necessary. I'm sure Tulsans have fist fights over who makes the best good old diner burger. I loved them both, but enjoyed mine at Hank's more because I had learned my lesson the day before and ordered this one "right". That means I just had chili, cheese, pickles and mustard. I skipped the tomato, raw onion and lettuce. I did however ask for onions grilled in. This was excellent. I think Bill's had a little better grill crust than Hank's but I'm pretty sure that was just patty-to-patty variation because Ms T's was nicely crusty at Hank's. Also Hank's don't fit the bun as well as Bill's. I thought both needed more salt grilled into the patty but this was not a serious issue because of the salt in the chili and cheese. Unfortunately they missed putting cheese on Ms T's burger which was something that we should have had corrected. That was our mistake and it kind of ruined it for her. She also was disappointed in the chocolate malt. With very little chocolate and very little malt it was more like a shake from a fast food place. As for me, I loved Hank's and would go back any time.

A great old-fashioned burger place. The cheeseburger was delicious and the onion rings were great! My husband got the tots and loved them. Ice cream machine was down when we were there so no shakes for us. Maybe next time!

  • Stephen W.

It's probably either between Hank's or Claud's for best pure burger in town. My girlfriend raves about her experience here and the one time I had a Big Okie I was not disappointed in the least. Just a good old-fashioned classic hamburger on steroids if you decide to gamble all-in on the 4-patty, 1-pound quadruple cheeseburger from heaven. From price to quality this place is an absolute must.

  • Brian J.

If you like burger joints you'll like Hanks. The burgers are large and the fries are more like steak fries, and are always cooked perfectly. No gourmet options, just a blue collar, greasy, burger joint. It gets busy at lunch so either go a bit early, or be prepared to wait your turn. You won't be disappointed. It's one of the best in town.

I know, I know, I'm on a 5 star roll.... But seriously, Hank's Hamburgers is the shit! They have THE best tater tots I've ever had (I just love when that's even an option!), their vanilla shake was top-notch and the cheeseburger was fantastic with chopped onions, pickles and ketchup. A simple sandwich, sure, but when it's made well, it's one of the best things on Earth. Hank's knows how to make a burger--and apparently they know how to make corn dogs, fries, chili and the all-elusive Frito pie, too. All the delicious things I would expect from an old roadside food stop. Hank's is situated on historic Rt. 66 and has been serving up manna from the hamburger gods since 1949. The restaurant has only a few tables and you'll probably run into a cop or two if you dine in (what can I say, they know good food). You can order at a window and take your food to go, too--but none of that new-fangled drive-thru business, no sir. Get your booty out of the car, walk to the window and smile as you order those deliciously crisp tots, that crazy rich shake and a meeeean burger. It's inexpensive and so damn tasty and the folks are super friendly. I'd be very surprised if you didn't hear a "Ya'll come back now, ya hear?" on your way out. Word to the wise--don't order the large drink or shake unless you have giantism. These things are freakin' massive (but delicious, true).

Dude...dude....umm...yeah. Dude. I came here with a special someone with a sweet soul and a skinny bum. And boy was I amazed with what I saw. We ordered burgers...huge burgers. I believe he ordered the largest one, which was either a 3/4 lb or 1 lb burger. It was ridiculous. I was so amazed at how he put that down....it was like taking a whole cow and putting it on a bun. They make their burgers perfect, greazy, and just heart attack ready. They have an ambulance in the parking lot on stand by. I got the chocolate malt that just did me in...oh my yum. I am not too excited about many restaurants in Tulsa, but this place is totally a monument. Thank you Isaiah for showing all skinny white dudes out there that they can still make momma proud and eat!!
