To correct another reviewer, the 71st location is the main location - it has been there since 1986. =) Although the Peoria location may be busier b/c of the bars in that area. Anyway, on to the food! The sushi is really good here! Try the crab cakes....I know, sounds a bit weird to eat at a sushi place, especially since they don't look like your normal crab cake. They are made with snow crab, smoked salmon, mozzarella, and jalapeno - my husband and I have nicknamed them "the balls of fiery goodness". If you're into spicy sushi, and don't mind something a little nontraditional, try the deadhead rolls. Yes, they're fried....all the sushi purists are gasping right about now....try them though, they're yummy. =) They have just about anything you can imagine on their menu, as far as sushi goes, and a few things that non-sushi eaters will enjoy. I will say however, if you decide to do one of their dinner entries, do know that you can request a specific soup and salad dressing. If you get a less than great waitress, who is also in a hurry, they will not tell you this and you may end up with the selections I got: miso soup (not good in my opinion....smelled like dirty socks) and the sesame dressing (yuck). They do carry ranch for you ranch addicts, and other, less stinky soups. They do have a coupon on their website for 2 dinners for $15.95, so make sure to check that out. The service used to be a lot better, but what can you do...most restaurants in Tulsa have a lack of helpful staff...I swear the quality of workers is going down overall. Anyway, give this place a try - not for the service (although you may end up with a pretty awesome waitress / waiter), go for the sushi!

Basically, I'd rather go for ice cream with Rush Limbaugh than eat at Fuji's again. The sushi is flooded with so many ingredients that your tastebuds actually have to THINK to determine the flavor. The service was reprehensible...I didn't get a * warm towel * or * complimentary chips *...hell, I almost didn't get a waiter. Next time, I'll wear my "I tip well" skin color.

I found a new love today and it's sushi! Hubby and I dined here tonight and it was excellent! He ordered the Makimono Combination; California roll, Philadelphia roll, and Old fashioned tuna roll. I ordered the grilled skewers with chicken. The atmosphere was very pleasant and our food arrived quickly. We had the miso soup and house salad with peanut sauce. The miso soup tasted very hearty and the salad was excellent. It was my first time trying the peanut sauce and the taste lives up to its name. It really did taste like peanuts! When our sushi arrived, I marveled at how beautiful the sushi looked. It was so colorful. It came with soy sauce for dipping. I had never had sushi before and was apprehensive. I tried the old fashioned tuna roll and it was amazing! The texture was a bit chewy for my liking, but I have nothing to compare it to as of yet. But the taste...oh my, it was incredible. it was very light and clean tasting. My tuna was a bit salty and very meaty tasting. However, the soy sauce could have contributed to the taste. The grilled skewers were in a teriyaki sauce and just tasted so delicious. The meal was a great new experience for me. I enjoyed trying something new and we plan to come back.

Learning my way through a sushi menu. Have thoroughly enjoyed everything we have ordered here. Service is always good, with great recommendations from the staff! Nice quiet atmosphere, with a nice bar to watch them roll!

Have to agree with other reviews on this site. Been eating here since it opened and it has gone through a lot of changes through the years. When it first opened the food and the service were impeccable. Lately tho things have become somewhat uneven. Part of the reason is the continuous turnover in help. Fuji is at it's best when there are experienced servers and chefs at work. Last visit the food was pretty good, the server was attentive but for about the 3rd time in a row my order got lost behind the sushi bar leading to a much longer meal than I wanted. Not sure who manages the place but that would seem to be the weak spot currently. The only reason I don't eat here more is because I'm not sure I'm getting good value for the prices.

I was seated quickly and the waiter gave some great suggestions. The Oishi Maki was delicious!! I will be returning soon!

Edible sushi - horrible service, I'll come back if nothing else is open and I have a dire need for sushi. The staff is incredibly ignorant when it comes to the menu. How can you work at a sushi bar and not know what ponzu sauce is? On the other hand, the sashimi can be fresh at times, but not sure if its worth putting up with the 20-something-year-olds who don't have a clue about ettiquette and service.

Best sushi in town with the best prices! I visit here a lot with my work, friends or even just enjoying a lunch to myself! They have a wonderful lunch special that everyone should give a try. I normally have the same waitress for lunch that knows what rolls I like and that I like avocado over jalapeños in the dead head roll. Give that a try if your not a fan of the spicy rolls. Everyone in the place is nice looking and very nice to be around. I will be telling all of my friends to give this place a try!

This place has enough vegan options to keep things interesting for repeat visits. The vegan rolls are good, if a little uninteresting, uninspired and unoriginal. But the ingredients are fresh and the build quality is fine. The Tsukemono, assorted Japanese pickled vegetables, is vegan and is a very good appetizer and someth9ing one can't get everywhere. They have two vegan soups, a miso and a ramen, which are both very good. They have a decent sake selection and the prices are fine. The service is spotty, never bad but sometimes slow. There is one server there, Hannah, I think, that knows from vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, all the questions one could have, she knows the answers. If you are lucky enough to wind up in her section, you're gonna have a good time. There are more vegan options than the ones I've written of, these are only some of my favourites.

This place is a mixed bag. Honestly the food isnt bad and there is a lot of variety on the menu. The service however leaves a lot to be desired. It took more than 10 minutes for our server to arrive and since we werent given menus we werent ready to order when she did. We needed some time to look over the menu and thats exactly what we got. It was another 15 minutes before our server came back. The server was polite and my guess is that they were understaffed. With the exception of a guy who seemed to be bussing/hosting nobody else seemed happy. No other smiles or even acknowledgements of our presence. The value was good my lady and I ate for about $25 after tax. The edamame was not hot and the salt was clumped on it though. Other than that the tempura shrimp and veggies that I had with my box special was really good. The 3 sushi rolls we ordered with the geisha lunch special were also very tasty. Not bad for the money but for the overall experience i prefer in the raw.

Very disappointed with the lunch special. The lobster roll was inedible, tasted like rubber. The salmon skin roll, unagi roll, and so-called spicy tuna roll were bland and uninteresting. I've had better sushi at an all-you-can-eat sushi place. Worst of all was the sunonomo salad which tasted like a mouthful of pickle juice. This was only the first sushi place we've eaten at in Tulsa, and I hope the others do better than Fuji. the fried oysters were greasy and unpalatable. We could have done better at home. Next...

Fuji is an alright sushi place. It certainly wouldn't be (and wasn't) my first choice, but the other place I prefer was closed. The sushi was alright, but the staff was very dysfunctional and the wait time was slow even for a sushi place. The vibe feels like a bunch of college guys in a fraternity bought a sushi place and do the best they can. I probably won't go back because there are better sushi places in Tulsa to eat.

I lived briefly in Tulsa in 1996, and literally ate at Fuji every night for 2 months. There were a few things on that menu that became addictions. Nearly 20 years later I'm visiting Tulsa and wondered if they were still there, new owner? New menu? I gave it a try. It is in the same location. Not sure about the ownership, and the menu has expanded quite a lot. But the food was really good! My "Tako Salad" is still on the menu and delicious! A million interesting rolls, fresh fish, hamachi kama (highly recommend). Service was ok, not great- but I will allow that to get a pass. Ate there 2 nights in a row! Looking forward to my next Tulsa trip!

We've eaten at Fuji way more than we should have, because it's close to our house, and the sushi is not awful. I've been too lazy to find a better place, but I'm looking for one after this evening. First, the service is just awful. It's multi-dimensions of awful. When you arrive there may or may not be someone to greet you. There may be someone three feet away who never greets you or finds someone else to greet you. When someone does finally greet you they're not warm or welcoming. Instead they act as if you've taken them away from something much more important. When seated you may or may not have silverware/chopsticks. You may or may not receive the complimentary chips and/or hot washcloths. You may sit for 15 minutes or more before your wait person graces you with his/her presence. The waitstaff are consistently ignorant about the menu. I've asked basic questions about dishes that my waitperson couldn't answer, nor did they offer to find out the answer for me. One night I asked if the French Martini was more Chambord or more Vodka, and the server explained that because he was not of drinking age and had never had one, he didn't know. That logic is fairly standard at Fuji. We rarely have dishes arrive at the table in the proper order. I've had waitstaff forget our appetizer or bring it after the entree, and never even acknowledge that it was an issue. I've also waited 45+ minutes for our food to arrive at all. The food is not horrible, but it's definitely not great. The menu is huge, but everything seems to have something fried in it. What's not fried is over-engineered, as though they're trying to confuse your tastebuds. Also, the food is not terribly consistent. One night it might be fairly good, but then when I order the same thing a few weeks later, it's tastes/looks different. They do have a decent kids menu, which is a plus. So, sadly, this is just not a place I would recommend to spend your money or time.

If you love real sushi, you will very disappointed in this place. The sushi rolls and the hot food are okay, but the sashimi and sushi (nigiri) are actually gross. I travel to Tulsa from Houston for work occasionally and stopped here for dinner to get some sushi. I ordered 8 pieces of nigiri, yellow tail, tuna, salmon, and scallops, and the tuna was chewy and a strange texture, the salmon was weird looking (so much so I wouldn't eat it), the yellow tail was alright, and the scallops were sour tasting. Moral of the story, the fish just isn't fresh AND they don't have a proper sushi chef (what do you expect in Tulsa?). This place is fine for rolls where the taste of the fish is masked by large amounts of rice, but I will never ever go here again for nigiri or sashimi.

The sushi is pretty good. It isn't the best in town, but certainly isn't the worst either. For the price it is a very good value. I haven't found a soup that I like here yet, I've tried the Miso and another and they tasted the same to me. I wasn't crazy about either one. The sushi is very good. I recommend the Funky Monkey, it is my favorite. I tried the Ninja on my last visit and it was pretty average.

  • Brent G.

The sushi ingredients were of average quality. The rolls were unevenly cut and not rolled well. The ginger was low quality. Not a great atmosphere either. There are enough decent sushi restaurants in Tulsa to take a chance on this one.

First time I ordered was great. I ordered online and got it delivered. Food came within 20 mins. I got the spider roll and the serving was huge and delicious, just the right amount of everything. Second time, my food arrived nearly two hours later and the portions and food weren't as good. I gave it one last chance and went with my friend to eat, bad mistake. The food was lackluster and the service was pretty bad. Reading the other reviews, it seems that Fuji is a hit or a miss. The misses seem to keep coming so I think I'll looking for another sushi place.

Love their sushi. Have never had a bad experience in the 6 years I've been going there.

Flip a coin and figure out which side is your lucky side. Go to Fuji's on those days. The food can be good, the portions can be portioned correct, and the service can be decent. It's just quite a thing when 1 is on and feels like a dream when all 3 are. It's possible that I'm just too upset with them for them to win me over, but I have given them chance after chance... The rolls seem to vary in size, but not price, based on when you are there. Sometimes it will be a larger roll and other times it will be smaller. I haven't figured out a rhyme or reason. First I thought dinner would be the larger, but I still received a small roll. I'm talking the bigger rolls, like the Hung or Rainbow rolls. You don't have to pull out a ruler...it's painfully obvious. Then, my girlfriend ordered sashimi. The order was to-go, so the chef probably didn't think anyone would take the time to complain, but it happened. We brought the sushi back to show how terrible the cut was. We were offered another meal and told to let the specific manager know. She mentioned that they were having some issues with the sushi chefs and I have seen her working behind the sushi counter almost everytime I've been back. The next time, everything went fine as she put a direct influence on the entire dining experience. Eating in, you may want to get your glass of water re-filled or even just order. If you are patient, these will all happen. It seems like there are enough servers to cover the small room, but I'm not an expert. So, maybe Fuji's is just trying to save some cash by not staffing or is having issues with workers that aren't showing up consistently. I don't know, I just know that the service is usually poor. Be wary if you are wanting to use a coupon. I bought into a deal, $10 for $20 worth of food. You may not realize it, but about 1/2 of the menu is some deal or another. Which means that you can't use it. I have heard from others and experienced it myself, coupons make the service even poorer than normal. I had just about ruled Fuji's out because of the principle of not supporting an organization that consistently shows they don't care about the customer, but saw the coupon. That was the reason that I went back and gave them another shot...Apparently a shot they didn't deserve. I have found this out by trying call in/to-go orders to have the phone just ring and ring without ever being answered, showing up to pick up my order to find that it's not done until about 10 minutes after they said it would be and still needing another 10 minutes just to pay. (Warm sushi isn't as good as they say.) So, bottom line... I almost gave it 1 star, but it can be good. I've had some great sashimi and have really enjoyed the Hung Roll and Rainbow Roll. But, I don't know what I'm going to get when I go there. So, I mention to flip a coin or roll the dice. Find your luck and try Fuji's on those days!

it was Sunday so we seated ourselves. Drink orders were taken promptly and delivered quickly. We both ordered from the Geisha menu. Two rolls each and a soup. I had the Ninja roll and California roll. It took a while to get the sushi but it was busy. The sushi was above average and for the price it was great!

My first time eating at Fuji's and to my surprise everything I tried was delicious!!! From the salad to the sushi. The staff was very friendly and made me feel comfortable. I'm not too keen on the terminology and they willingly explained what they were talking about. Much appreciated. I've never sat down at a sushi restaurant before and have to admit that this place was overall a great place. I would definitely be a repeat customer and spread the word. Great place!

Full Disclosure In all fairness, I have to say that I currently live in Japan and am just visiting Tulsa and have been spoiled recently with fresh from the ocean sushi at end of year parties and a local woman who has adopted us foreigners and loves to feed us well, so perhaps I'm a harsher critic than the typical customer at this restaurant. I get that. Also, I understood going in that this is America, the land of the Spicy Ninja Toyota Samurai Banzai Dragon Honda and Other Asian-seeming Words sushi rolls that would never pass as sushi in Japan. I was ready for that. In fact, it was only these non-very-Japanese-and-not-really-sushi-at-all rolls that gained this review the only 2 stars I'm willing to give it. Those weren't bad. Crazy Name Sushi Rolls - Decent Enough My friends all got a couple of rolls for $9.99 (lunch special). Fair enough price, and the rolls were enjoyable. If I were them, I might give the place 3 or 4 stars. Other than this whole tip nonsense that's coming at the end. Attempt at Actual Real Sushi - Not Decent Enough I ordered 3 kinds of nigiri (the kind with the bit of rice topped with a slice of, usually, fish). Let me back up a minute. First, since this place calls itself a sushi bar, I was surprised that they didn't have the little paper to just tick the boxes next to the kinds I wanted like I would at almost any other sushi restaurant in the world, even in America. The waiter looked at me like I was from Mars. The menu did state that you get just ONE of any kind you order instead of the pair that every other sushi restaurant in the world seems to give you, and at $2.50 or more each, my $9.00 meal consisted of exactly three bites. I knew that when I ordered, of course, but I hoped that it would be good. It wasn't. The maguro (tuna), tai (Spanish mackerel) and hamachi (yellow tail), three of my favorites, were not terrible but were absolutely not great. They tasted "fishy," the way that sushi really should not taste. Some General Things I won't subtract a star for not being given a little hand towel as you would in any remotely authentic Japanese restaurant, nor will I add a star for the slight amusement at having a knife, fork and Chinese chopsticks (bigger, clunkier than Japanese ones). It just didn't seem like any effort was made to make this place seem at least a little Japanese. The Tipping Thing So, we get our checks, and I kick myself for not just getting the rolls like my friends all did for the same price, but it was my fault, and I'd been curious about getting real soosh here, and now I knew. Then we all saw it. On our bills. An 18% gratuity was already added (there were 5 of us, not some huge party). As if that wasn't annoying enough, you know when you give them the check folder thingy with your credit card in it and get back that other slip to sign? Yah. When that came back? There was a place to write in your tip. As if they hadn't already charged you 18%. Sneaky, sneaky!! So, yes, if I'm back in town again someday and friends want to go there, I'd go and do the 2 rolls for $10 lunch thing, but I would absolutely not attempt real "Japan-style" sushi. And I'd still be annoyed about the tip. And I'd probably lobby to go somewhere else on the chance that I could try to get some real-style sushi for a reasonable price, even if it's also not the freshest (this is Tulsa, not next to an ocean, I get it).

Great sushi and great lunch specials. Unlike In the raw with very small rolls and a "upscale" environment fujis is a normal looking place with fresh ingredients and a great variety of rolls ranging on price.

The first time I went to Fuji the service was slow but the food was good. Then went back and sat in the bar area and the service was perfect. the bartender/waiter was extremely friendly and gave great recommendations. Ever since that time I have ate in the bar area and ordered their crab cakes(very good and cheap)! This is my favorite place to get sushi in Tulsa. If I have not had real fresh sushi(that is not frozen for a week) this would have been 5 stars, but it does get better.

What has always killed me about this place is the fact that they place ads all over the place and then treat you like shit when you show up with one. Here it is, real simple... If you invite me to your place (which is what a coupon really is... an invitation to try your place out). Gee, I can't figure out why I don't come back. Could it be that I don't get any service if I mention the coupon? Could it be that I order an entree instead of expensive sushi? Do you fear that you (waiters) won't get as big of a tip if I order an entree? I don't get it. 20 years ago, Fuji was the only choice in Tulsa. Now, there are about a dozen, yet Fugi acts like it's the only game in town. I will say they got one thing rignt... The first two letters in there name. F U

This was yet another disappointing sushi place in south Tulsa. Along with Asahi and Wasabi, Fuji is the 3rd mediocre place within a stone's throw of 71st and Memorial. Why are there 3 sushi places so close together? I don't know and it doesn't matter because none of them are worth going to. My wife had the tempura/sushi lunch combo and I had the chicken teriyaki/sushi lunch combo. It took my wife about 4 bites to say "I never want to come here again". The sushi was sloppy--unevenly rolled and unevenly cut. The rice wouldn't stay together. There was hardly any fish in the rolls either. My chicken breast looked and tasted like a plain piece of chicken baked in an oven and dumped on with random sauce. The tempura was decent and not oily, which puts it ahead of the other two places. The sushi and meats were just as bad though, if not worse. And Fuji is the most expensive of the three places too. If you're in the neighborhood of 71st and Memorial, you have a lot of choice for Japanese food but not much opportunity for good Japanese food. Save your money and get fish at Long John Silver's.

What's not to love? A place you can actually get escolar! While I usually like my sushi nigiri or at least simple I tried one of the wild multi-ingredient rolls the itamae recommended as his own. It was really good and I can recommend the "sweet daddy" roll. Thanks Fong!

Fuji is the only place I will eat sushi in Tulsa. I have been eating at Fuji since 1999. They have lost some quality over the last decade, and I see that in the other reviews, but I still recommend them over the other options. The food is good and the atmosphere is more peaceful than other sushi places. I recommend trying Fuji at 71st & Memorial (the Brookside location has a horrible wait staff).

I've never been disappointed by Fuji! Sure, it's not the best sushi I've ever had (that'd be Zanmai in Boulder, CO, so far), but it's pretty delicious. The outside of the place leaves a bit to be desired (it's in a strip mall) but the inside has some neat Japanese decor. Their shrimp chips are fun, and come with dinner! This place was one I frequented with my friends at TU, and I've been back there since moving away. They have some yummy original rolls. The Crazy Linda roll is really good, as are the Tulsa and Southside rolls. I'd visit Fuji again if I'm in Tulsa!

I would hardly say that I eat sushi enough to be any sort of real connoisseur but I know enough to tell when its not done right . I ordered a Vu roll and when the chef made it he didn't cut it all the way through so that when you tried to eat each piece it would stick to the previous one and fall apart. On top of that it really just wasn't wrapped that well. My mom ordered the Lobster roll which came already separated but it still fell apart just as badly. The rolls just really weren't wrapped that tight. The service itself was good and we were promptly seated and served during around the peak of the night rush. They did a very good job of keeping our drinks full and at one point when the manager refilled my water I noticed that he grabbed the glass from the bottom versus the top where you drink from, which many servers rarely do. My only real complaint was the sushi wasn't really that good, in fact I noticed that one of the sushi chefs at one point during his shift had put on sunglasses. To be fair though i'm giving them a 3 because i've been there several times before and while its not amazing the food is much better. Honestly, if you want better sushi you should just go to the Peoria Fuji location on Brookside. The Peoria location is the main restaurant and is not only significantly better than the 71st store but is one of the better sushi places in Tulsa as well, I seem to go to the 71st store more though because its much closer to my house.

I've been to this Fuji location about five times and my first experience was the best. It really depends on who your server is. The sushi is a bit more overpriced but it is overall good quality.

My first time eating at Fuji was good. I was overly please with the service. The Sushi itself was good...we had the two special rolls for the night and they were well priced. I did notice that they were covered in so much extra sauce that I couldn't even taste what was in the roll. I would recommend this restaurant to others seeking a decent sushi place but I would also recommend that Fuji focuses more on the complex taste of what is in the roll then what is added on top.

    (3)
  • Sara D.

It's not that the food is bad. Well, it is that the food is bad. Maybe it's just that I expect a sushi joint to have a wide selection of good quality, very fresh, very raw fish. Just because it's rolled in rice doesn't mean it should get on the menu. On the other hand, if you enjoy having green onions and cream cheese rolled in white rice in several different varieties for about $15, feel free to enjoy your white-washed, nutritionally empty meal in a very hip, clean restaurant with a patio seating option.

The sushi here is moderate and seems to improve and then get worse. However, their tempura is excellent and the complimentary chips are the only reason I would ever go back. I only gave one star because the service is horrible. The servers are rude and slow and the food isn't worth the service and especially not the price. Go to Flying Fish in Bixby. The old manager from Fuji opened Flying Fish and it is, in my opinion, the best sushi in Tulsa.
