I'm not kidding you when I say this is the best meal I have ever eaten from start to finish. Seriously do not pay attention to the other review because this place is fantastic. The boyfriend took me here for valentines day this year and it was well worth our very pricey bill. We started off with soup, I got the french onion and boyfriend got lobster and crab chowder and both were devine. I ordered the beef tenderloin cooked medium and he got the ribeye special cooked medium. The plates were beautiful and everything was cooked to perfection. My cut of meat was so tender that I could have cut it with my fork. Boyfriends Ribeye was incredible. The fau grois is really good though interesting. The sauce is amazing and everything was like fireworks in my mouth until the last bite. We got a bottle of VanDuzer wine (Pinot Noir) that our server recommended and he was spot on with what we wanted out of the wine. Since it was valentines day I was being spoiled and was allowed a dessert and got sorbet which was excellent. I would go back here everyday if I lived in the area and could afford it.

LOVE this place. Lovely atmosphere. Authentic food with hand picked ingredients. Make sure you try the duck liver pate! For entrée I would recommend the lamb or grilled duck. Grilled scallops are also heavenly. Their wine list has many savory collection as well. And don't miss out on the chocolate pate for dessert.

Great little find. Food is fresh & tastes great. I had the grilled cheese with the tomato bisque soup. Phenomenal. Really rich & different take on a classic. Fried oysters are very good as well. Unique cream sauce served with it is excellent. Service was top notch. Waiter explained their concept, how they go about making things & was very on top of our table. Worth stopping in.

My friend and I had been out running errands on a Saturday and we wound up looking at hunting and fishing gear. That made me hungry and I thought duck would be nice. I looked on line and found this place. When we arrived, we made it as far as the foyer and we could see that the patrons were dressed for a nice Saturday evening dinner, and not wearing the shorts and tee shirts that we had on. We decided to try this place on another night. We only got about 15 feet away when the manager came out and called to us. He assured us that our attire was fine and welcomed us in. I was quite impressed with this and frankly, a bit surprised. We were given our choice of tables (he wasn't hiding us away from the other diners) and our waiter soon came over. Rather than just having the duck, I opted for the mixed grill, which included duck, sirloin and lamb. I swapped the mashed potatoes for sweet potatoes and everything was perfect. My companion had the quail and he couldn't stop raving about it. The meal was excellent. If anything, it was too much (I had to take some home with me). The prices are high but that was to be expected for a gourmet restaurant. The place is a bit hard to find. Look for it. It's in the back of a strip mall on the southeast corner of 71st and Yale. Keep walking and you'll find it. It's worth the time it takes to get there.

I dined here while stopping in Tulsa on a long roadtrip. The location is conveniently within walking distance of the Hyatt hotel at which I stayed. Bread was served before dinner. I suspect that these were microwaved from frozen because mine were cold and moist on the inside. For drinks, I ordered hot tea; a caddy was brought, but I was dismayed by the layer of dust that I saw on the caddy. For entrees, I had the salad nicoise; it was a cornucopia of ingredients that made the salad interesting. However, the greens were neither particularly fresh nor high-quality; consequently, the salad was slightly bland. The service was excellent, but the food was so-so. Compared to other dining experiences in the area, I recommend eating here.

Yesterday my girlfriend and I went, and we both found it to be very nice. Our waitress had a lot of knowledge of the menu, and was a nice meal prepared very well. I got the special, which was the halibut (fish), it was amazing. The portions were a little small but who really wants to pig out at a elegant Resteraunt? It was a little difficult to find, but overall I was very pleased with our service and food. Although readers beware, even dinner for two can be slightly expensive.

Always a dependable South Tulsa choice. Pleasant atmosphere. Nice variety to menu. Good wine list, cocktails and mock tails. Attentive service.

Solid French-cuisine restaurant. The interior has an intimate, sort of romantic hideaway vibe. Our group started with the Spicy Fried calamari, which was decent and not particularly spicy. I had the Dijon chicken, which was prepared quite well. The accompanying risotto was also quite delicious. Unfortunately, the vegetables (I think some sort of squash/zucchini mix if I'm remembering correctly) were underdone yet soggy. Not sure how you do that. The winner of the night was the grilled duck breast, which even when served well done (sorry, it was on request) was quite tender and flavorful. My husband's fish special wasn't so great. I was a little disappointed in the service for a restaurant with prices in this range. They don't bring you a food menu to start, and we waited quite awhile before anyone took our drink orders. Then long wait for food menus. Then long wait to order. You get the drift. Service was also quite impersonal, but our group was talkative amongst ourselves, so maybe the server was trying to stay out of the way. I can tell you that if it had been just me and my husband, the lag time between all steps would have been quite annoying. The menu isn't quite as authentically French as it could be. It lacked a lot of the bistro classics, such as sole meuniere, salade nicoise, mussels meuniere, souffle, steak tartare, coq au vin, etc. My thought when I see that is that they either have chefs who lack the skill to prepare these dishes to order or are not getting in enough really fresh ingredients to make some of these dishes well. But again, what they do serve is solid and deserves a 4-star rating.

Very good in all respects. Nice setting; fantastic seafood cheesecake app; osso bucco was very good but served over pasta instead of risotto; brown trout was very nice; creme brulee to finish.

The French Hen took total care of us for Thanksgiving. The food was so delicious!!!! The service excellent and made our family meal memorable. The baked squash and Brussel sprouts were both so yummy.

We were very disappointed with our meal. Everything at our table was overcooked and I mean everything. Unfortunately several of us had seafood. My son had the most expensive item on the menu, lobster tail, and it was so overcooked and rubbery he could hardly cut it with a steak knife. It was such a waste of a lobster. My husbands duck was close to being prepared correctly but still overcooked. The best thing we had was the bottle of wine my husband selected with absolutely no help from the waiter. He had no knowledge of the wine list or of wine varietals at all. We would never go back.

I had been really excited to try this place, as I love French food, but overall the food was hit or miss, and we did not have the best service. Perhaps we made a mistake in going during restaurant week (although, we were not ordering off their special restaurant week menu), as they were extremely busy. Someone sat us at our table, but then no one came to take our order for over 20 minutes. I was almost on the verge of walking out but tried to be sympathetic to the fact that they were busy. It was just frustrating that staff and hosts kept walking by and taking no notice of us. Finally, someone came over and apologized. I think they must have called someone in for extra help because one of the servers was in sweats or something like she had just been working out and stopped by but got roped in to helping out. We started with the seafood cheesecake that friends of ours had recommended. Granted, it does not sound very appetizing, but it was actually really good. Extremely rich but good, and I'd order it again. The French onion soup was decent, but the menu overall seemed to be lacking a lot of classic French dishes--like steak frites or poulet frites, or beef bourguignon (which I think they do serve at lunch but haven't tried it). For my main dish, I had the pistachio-crusted, pan roasted trout. The fish itself was actually delicious, and the portion was quite large. Since I'd had two very rich, filling appetizers, I had to take some of it home. I really liked the crust on top, and the lemon caper sauce was nice. However, the vegetables it came with did not taste right at all. I had my husband try them, too, and he thought that the oil they were sauteed in must have been burned. I didn't want to send anything back only because we had waited so long and they were so busy, so I can't say how they would have handled that. In any case, the fish was the star, and it was good. But, when you're spending a little more than you normally would, it's nice for all of the components on the dish to be good, and not just poor to mediocre. I'd like to try their lunch menu before I decide if I want to go back again for dinner.

I chose The French Hen for an anniversary dinner, knowing it would offer some upscale food and a new dining experience for my husband and me. The setting is cozy. Passing the herb garden on the way in is a nice way to transition from the rather prosaic strip mall like location. Go past the Quizno's and you really do find a nice little niche. We had a table by a back window, which seemed like a nice spot, except that my husband was treated to a view of the kitchen staff stepping out the back door of the kitchen for a smoke once in a while. The restaurant might consider some kind of trellis to mask the break area. The food quality varied, but overall was more than average. I was happy to try foie gras for the first time, but even given the appropriateness of the berries served with it, I found the sauce oily and too generous and the overall presentation fussy. My husband found his shrimp cocktail only ordinary. Our second course was outstanding. My husband had the wedge salad, and raved about the quality of the Roquefort dressing. I enjoyed the French onion soup myself. The broth was tasty, with a faint note of what seemed to be cinnamon, and the bread still had a bit of crunch in the crusts. For our entrees, I chose the salmon with a pear and lobster sauce and my husband had the mixed grill with scallops, beef, and quail. The portion of salmon was very generous, and well cooked, especially given how thick the fillet was. The sauce was very light, and the pears still a little crisp. The rice that accompanied it had an almost risotto like consistency. The pairing of the fruit with the seafood was very good. On my husband's plate, all three of the protein servings were well cooked, but he thought the beef was the best, despite an overly generous application of peppercorn sauce. We both enjoyed the vegetables of the day, especially the tiny zucchini, which had been sauteed lightly enough they were still crisp to the bite.

I came here with my family as a special treat while visiting them in Tulsa. The place had a nice ambience and the service was generally very good. We started with the oysters, which were ok, but it was hard to taste them under the sauce and they resembled any other fried dish. The french onion soup was good, albeit with a tiny portion size, and was a bit too sweet for my taste. For my main meal, I had the calves' liver. It was well-cooked but was lacking in flavor- I had to allocate the onions charitably to make it palatable. My grandmother's dish, which had salmon, was very good, and in general the seafood seemed to be an improvement over the meat dishes. The dessert was standard mousse for me, though from my relatives I heard that their peaches and their bread pudding were excellent. A good four-star meal if not for the prices, which are relatively high. 3.5- if you've got money, you'll like it much more.
