Evelyn's is a hidden treasure in Tulsa. It is located on the north (less populous) side of Tulsa International, so few people know about it. Evelyn's serves southern comfort foods. Fried chicken is the specialty - the breading has a peppery, flavorful taste that is both different and delicious. The sides are what you'd expect: cornbread, mashed potatoes, and different veggies. There are a few downsides to Evelyn's. The biggest is that the hours are limited; this restaurant is for lunch only, so you can't eat here after work. Another is that it is so far off of the beaten path. You'll take a minor road off of 169 to get here, so I doubt there are too many people who just happen to drive by. Finally, the service is very good but it takes a long time to get your food. This isn't a fast food restaurant, so plan to spend some time waiting. If you like southern fried foods and have a day off from work, this is a great option. You'll wait a long time while they fry your chicken, but it's worth the wait.

The food is always great when I come here. Unfortunately the service is excruciatingly slow! Took 20 minutes to get drinks, 50 minutes until our food arrived. I know the food is fresh but that is ridiculous. It even took 10 minutes for our small group of 5 to pay and finally leave. I will come back because I enjoy the food but if you decide to visit please make sure you have plenty of time to dine.

What a wonderful experience! Such an awesome service. Friendly wait staff and wondeful attitudes. The food was just as great! Catfish was more than enough!!! The cabbage, the mac and cheese, the sweet potatoes just like granny's!!!! We'll be back!

Very hard to find location. When I called, a very nice man gave me excellent directions. The parking lot is big and there are four dining areas inside. The staff is nice and the airplane seats at the door are funny. Don't get the Tuesday special, Smothered Chicken, there is very little meat, or the Beef Patty Melt, it contains hard pieces and is covered with Velveeta. The greens, green beans, vegetable medley are very, very good, I highly recommend them. The corn bread is sweet, just the way I like it. :)

The customer service was good. The staff seemed to be nice folks. Why the two star? I am sorry but that food is just not tasty. They seem to have a strong and steady stream of customers who appreciate their offerings. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.

Great Food, Great Service, Great Atmosphere. Whenever I make it up to Tulsa, I try and hit this place. I think it's a family owned place, and I'm treated like family whenever I go. If I lived in Tulsa, I would so go more often!!

Five words: Best fried chicken in Tulsa! Once you find it, you'll find you're way back time and again. Great Southern-style fried chicken! Friendly staff. Chicken is fresh fried. Takes awhile - not a 'fast food' restaurant - but well worth the wait! By the way, these are serious pieces of chicken. Sides are good, fresh roles, but it's all about the fried chicken! Only thing is, their hours make it tough. But try to find the time, it's worth it.

Finally, I found the good soul food I remember from my childhood in Mississippi and Louisiana...right here in Tulsa: Evelyn's Out by the airport and near the Zoo,set in a bright attractive restaurant. Special today was half of the best friend chicken in Tulsa along with the most delicious fried okra and the excellent sweet yams, accompanied with perfect sweet tea...all for about $12 bucks. Chicken was hot right out of the fryer, fantastic light breading, not greasy at all and very flavorful. I was too stuffed to get any desert but they had peach cobbler, also banana pudding sometimes and other sweets. A fair mix of folks, black and white enjoying some of the best food I have found i this city! Only real drawback is they a e only open M-F, mornings till 3pm,dern it! Wanda J's in Broken Arrow stays open week night till 8pm I hear. Get yourself there soon for some good fiddles!

First, I'll admit I have a special place in my heart for unconventional, out-of-the-way places likes this. Save me God from another cookie-cutter chain restaurant near the mall. Evelyn's is sandwiched between the airport and the zoo in an industrial park and I have to think that better than half of their regulars come from that industrial park and nearby aviation businesses. There's no reason to drive past this place otherwise. The building looks more suited to selling fetzer valves or ball bearings than serving up soul food, but, again, that's part of the appeal to me. If you can survive in this location, you're doing something right with your food. The restaurant was clean, bright and not dated, but certainly wouldn't win any traditional awards for ambiance. Again, I like it this way (most of the time). Finally, the food. Based on what I'd read online I went with the fried chicken and was so, so glad I did. This was the sort of stuff I ate at grandma's house on the weekend as a child, only just a little bit better and Grandma was a magnificent cook. Hot, fresh, super crispy and well-seasoned. Unfortunately, the sides (mashed potatoes and greens) paled in comparison to the chicken, and I'd guess they suffered as a way to keep costs down. They were just ok, but the chicken made me forget all about them anyway. Iced Tea was particularly good too. Service was good, particularly for the number of tables per waitress. If I'm ever killing time near the Tulsa airport again, I'll definitely stop back in to sample some of the other down-home dishes that tempted me from the menu.

Outstanding Fried Chicken. This hard to find place is worth the effort to find. They actually cook the chicken to order. Each order is hot and very flavorfull. Home Cooking has a new name: Evelyn's Soul Food. I you are at the airport around lunch, make a stop. You will find it amazing.
