We had a wonderful experience at Chalkboard while in town for work. As it was a quiet Monday evening, we had a large table to ourselves in the back room, which felt even more secluded than the restaurant itself. We started with salads, which were perfect. A pro tip from our server regarding the field greens salad suggested we order dressing on the side; I'm glad she told us because I used a fraction of what they provided. The salad was large and perfect to split, which they did in the kitchen. A few enjoyed cocktails or a glass of wine, and the selection was great. For dinner, I opted for the bone-in breast of chicken. It was flavorful and delicious, served with the skin on and heavily seasoned. The chicken was actually a touch salty. For someone else, it may have been too salty, for me it was perfectly fine because I like certain things, chicken being one of them, very salty. The garlic mashed potatoes were delicious and the rainbow carrots were very good. I could have eaten several more carrots and would perhaps liked to have seen a few more on the plate. Do not, under any circumstances, pass up the bread plate. Even if you're on a low carb kick or even if you don't normally do bread. Both the bread and the butter are outstanding. When in Tulsa, make a reservation, bring a good friend, allow plenty of time and enjoy a truly wonderful meal.

The Stuffed French Toast was sweet. A good sweet. With their green apples & mascarpone, it made it worth its sweet wild. I had to choose between smoked bacon & sage pork sausage, but I went with both. Both were good as well. Their mimosas were good as well. The glass was mostly filled with champagne (of course) but you couldn't taste it, that's how I like my drinks. The bartenders & waitress were attentive with the service. If you have a room at the hotel that's connected to it, they can just add it to your bill.

This is one of the only restaurants within walking distance of my office. I went there once before and loved the ambiance and the stuffed portabella mushroom was delicious. I had a much different experience this time around. They recently redecorated and it still looks fantastic and the atmosphere is cozy and chic. The server, while somewhat attentive, seemed a little scatter-brained and rushed (however since it was around lunch time on a week day I won't fault him for that). I ordered the stuffed portabella again since I had been craving it. I was severely disappointed. My conclusion was that they must have changed chefs because this was not the same dish I had back in November. The mushroom was practically raw (not baked as it was the previous time) and had a pile of very bland black beans and corn on top. The butter they serve with the bread is delicious, and I ended up eating more bread than my meal. When it came time for dessert we asked for a menu (which they don't have). The server came back and recited the options and I decided to go with the plain new york style cheesecake. I was slightly disappointed with that too. The cheesecake itself was decent but the crust was soggy. Overall I think I'll reserve this place for an occasional happy hour drink since I still love the atmosphere.

I'll be back! Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Started off with the mussels and the caprese; the mussels were well prepared and the caprese came with a fantastic, smokey balsamic. My entree was the Beef Wellington. I was originally going to get something else until I saw a gentleman who had ordered the Wellington, and his facial expression at his first bite told me I needed to try it. He did not mislead me. Cocktails were good as well, and the waiter was attentive, knowledgable, and friendly. My beautiful date had the diver scallops and curry risotto and she throughly enjoyed it. Finished the night with my favorite, a [Grand Marnier] creme brûlée and a cappuccino, and requested to move to the patio for dessert. Although the view is hardly worth getting excited about the breeze was excellent for a cooler summer night.

I've always seen/heard about this restaurant, so I thought Restaurant Week this year was the perfect opportunity to try them out. I came here for brunch this past Saturday and got: - The seasonal soup (Chicken tortilla): It was fine. Typical chicken tortilla soup - Chicken and waffles: Also fine. - Cheesecake: Had that weird fridge taste when you put something into the fridge for a long time uncovered Overall, I wasn't super impressed. I had expected a lot more, considering how this is one of those "famous"/timeless establishments of Tulsa. At other restaurants I've eaten at during Restaurant Week, it seems like we always full-sized portions. Here, they seemed kind of stingy with the food. Service was good, so +1 star for that.

Mehh. Ate here for lunch. My alvocado, BLT was pretty basic. I figured for the price it would have been loaded up with the ingredients but there was a single layer of everything. Fries were fine...nothing I'd write home about. My husband did enjoy his Bloody Mary. It was very flavorful. He had the stuff French toast which was also just ok. They were kid friendly as far as having high chairs but no kids menu. I think it's probably a better dinner place.

Instantly became a top restaurant for me in Tulsa and where I plan to bring future visitors who want a taste of what Kanye would call the Good Life. I had the petit filet for my the main course and it was without question the best steak I've had in town. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection, and each bite was tender and juicy. The bread and butter starters were some kind of wonderful and will test even the most dedicated health conscious peeps. The atmosphere was great and the service was excellent. Nothing but love for this joint!

Had a fantastic romantic meal at the Chalkboard. Beef wellington was outstanding, as was the seabass special. Tuna tartare starter was the only low point of the evening, but even that was still good just not as good as everything else. Will be adding this one to the list for future date nights!

Pricey and overhyped. Wasn't impressed. For a restaurant that has such history and tradition, I expected better service and food. My eggplant napoleon was undercooked and tasteless. They ran out of two dishes (brushetta and artichoke lasagna) that they were known for. My husband thought his beef wellington was mediocre.

I took my parents here for dinner while they were in town from Texas. Needless to say, they loved it. It all comes down to its quaint yet upscale vibe, AMAZING spinach and artichoke lasagna that I ordered, and large drink selection. I can see this being a great date spot, as well. You need to try this!

It had been 10+ years since we had eaten at Chalkboard, but loved the look of the place. Food and presentation were both excellent. Definitely makes my top 5 Tulsa places for dinner.

Went back last night for the first time in a couple years and still as good as it ever was. My beef wellington was under cooked and had to be corrected. I would have preferred it be plated with new sides but outside of that everything was delicious. Muddled strawberry martini was so refreshing on a hot night and the service was among the best we have had in the city.

It was a bit of crazy night due to the Garth concert, but the Beef Wellington was superb. The cheese plate was descent too. The food seems very seasonal with some good choices for cocktails and wine. However, they run out of things frequently so don't get your heart set on anything. Our service was spacey, this is probably a 3.5 if I could give it a 1/2.

Everything was just ok but I would consider again in the future. I would give them the benefit of the doubt as we went on valentine's day where they served a set menu. It was overpriced though for three courses and a glass of sparkling wine for $73-85. Service was attentive but there was a mix up once on an order of wine that was easily fixed. We both had a lobster bisque for appetizer that was too salty and had no actual bits of lobster in it. Just about everyone was getting the filet and that didn't disappoint. Desserts were very well done though.

Had an amazing timing - best service I have had in a while. My wife had the duck and I had the beef Wellington. I was also intrigued by the many specials - I will have to come back again!

The Chalkboard is the in-house restaurant of Tulsa's Ambassador Hotel. It also is a favorite of locals to have a nice meal without braving the crowds of trendy neighborhoods like Brookside. While not particularly fancy the prices are on the higher side, not surprising for a hotel restaurant. On this particular visit we did not eat so this will be more about the general atmosphere. Warning to first-time visitors. If you enter from the hotel lobby there is no maître d' station to greet you. In fact you will just be stared at by the people working in the kitchen. The layout is set up for people entering from the street entrance. Only thing is, they don't tell you that. The décor is neither trendy, fancy nor plush. But yet not plain either. It's dark and cozy and warm and has an ambience of a New York City club. I think it would be an awesome place to be on a cold, rainy day. We had Mimosas and watched TV in the bar, which is part of the restaurant. Whoever runs the place seemed to be in charge and spent a lot of time talking to vendors and working at his laptop. I felt we were adequately looked after. The Mimosa he made was mostly champagne, however when we ordered a second one the other waiter was much more stingy and went exactly half-and-half. Who goes stingy on Mimosas? But they were only $4 each, which is very low by most restaurants' standards. The Chalkboard seems to be a good place to meet a friend, have a casual business meeting, relax at the bar, etc. It wouldn't be my first choice for a romantic evening or to take someone to impress them. Overall, it's worth a visit if for nothing else its location.

I have been here several times and the food is excellent. The service can be a little slow and it is pricey. Whatever you order make sure you save room for the best bread pudding I have ever had anywhere hands-down. It is awesome! This is no joke, you have to order it!

Went here for a dinner with friends. This place always makes me somewhat uncomfortable because of the quality of service. Very formal very nice. Had the beef wellington and found it cooked EXACTLY the way I ordered it (which isn't easy if you have ever tried to cook one). Nice wine selection, and once again the service was fantastic.

Atmosphere is nice enough, but food mediocre over all. Chicken was the best dish in our party of 12, with under seasoned scallops 2nd, although one order of those was served cold. Most disappointing was the rib eye. A thin and over cooked $42 steak. Ouch! Medium rare was grey throughout. Just terrible. Obviously not a steak place. Vegetable garnish were an afterthought. With these prices and this average at best food your money is better spent somewhere else.

After a long day on the road, we checked in about 9, dropped our stuff off and headed down to eat at this restaurant. Located in the basement of the Ambassador hotel, this place is like a little slice of European food. The father and I ordered a plate of hummus with fresh pita bread and carrots, and assorted cheeses with a variety of sides. The hummus was fresh and topped with olive oil and spices, the pita bread was warm, and the carrots were crisp. The various cheeses came with grained toast, prosciutto, walnuts, berries, and some garlic and olive oil black olives. It was so delicious. Dad had an Italian Pilsner beer that he said was good. We ordered off the small plates menu, since the larger plates were more expensive at about $20-$40.

Very disappointed-reservation for 6:30, arrived at 6:30, seated and ordered drinks and dinner. Waiter was informed we were headed to see Michael Buble concert at 8. Drinks came just before 7 and waiter told us at 7:05 dinner was ready. Again at 7:20 waiter told us that our dinner was ready. We talked with the waiter, who knew we were going to concert via Chalkboard shuttle, about our meal and time to eat and enjoy. Finally at 7:40 our dinner arrives. We eat in 10 mins. Eating at the Chalkboard is not cheap and rushing thru an expensive dinner was not an enjoyable moment. Had not eaten at the Chalkboard in a long time. I specifically asked if the bartender knew how to make a sidecar (the original sidecar) and was told yes. I was looking forward to the drink. I was disappointed. It was not a sidecar. I know how to make it at home and have had the opportunity to visit Harry's New York Bar in Paris where the drink originated 102 years ago. It was not the waiters fault for either the poor drink or the late late dinner. Chalkboard may be good for lunch or brunch but they missed it last night.

This is a review based solely on their breakfast. My wife and I ate breakfast here since we were staying at the Ambassador. I ordered the chalkboard skillet which was hashbrowns, tomatoes, onions, and peppers with scrambled eggs and cheese on top. It also came with bacon. The hashbrowns were incredibly oily and too soggy and soft for my liking. There wasn't much flavor in the dish, even with the eggs and cheese over top. The eggs were cooked decently, but a little bland. The bacon was solid, though - nice flavor and good texture with the right amount of crunch and chewiness. The bacon was what redeemed this dish (and bumped it up to 2 stars instead of 1) in my mind. My wife ordered the yogurt parfait, which included home made granola and fruit. It was mostly granola, and the granola was just ok. It was lacking in crunch, but had decent flavor. She was underwhelmed. I also tried the pecan pancakes - I was unimpressed by the lack of pecans, and the pancakes weren't anything special. The coffee wasn't that great either. Tasted a bit watered down. The service was lacking, especially for a "nicer" restaurant like this one. We walked in and no one really took noticed us. We had to seat ourselves, and still no one noticed us until a good 5 minutes passed. It wasn't like there were many other people there, either. Definitely not worth the money you're paying for a breakfast here.

The wine list was good as was the bruschetta, but the absolutely fresh bread with garlic butter, and the chicken with mushroom risotto and asparagus were excellent.

Nice, quaint place. Friendly bartender and excellent food. I didn't sit in the main dining room, but it looked like a good place for small business lunch meetings or even a good date night place.

Have enjoyed dinner here many times. Most recently, I had their outstanding beef wellington (Chalkboard is one of few local restaurants that offers it). Service is consistently stellar, mostly because we are usually served by Kevin and he is excellent. Can be pricey, and can feel a bit stodgy, but overall it's a Tulsa classic.

Good breakfast, strong mimosas, but overpriced! $7 for one mimosa? I live in Dallas, and that's WAY higher than mimosas there. I've also had good mimosas on 15th Street in Tulsa for less than $7. Breakfast will run you $10-12 a person, so not bad, and parking is ample with a free lot next door. I would go back again if a friend wanted to go, but it wouldn't be my first option since it gets a little expensive when you want to drink 3-4 mimosas! They are served in slim champagne flutes too, not big glasses like some other places.

This restaurant is beautiful, white table cloths, fun art on dark walls. We enjoyed breakfast there after a very comfy night at the hotel. The frittata with roasted vegetables was perfectly prepared and a generous portion. Staff could use some training on professionalism and haven't been trained to the level a waitress in this fine dining establishment deserves. But the food and ambiance brings it to a 4 star restaurant for me.

It's good. The menu is not that broad but covers the bases well. Possibly the best indicator is that everyone's plates were clean at the end of the meal. I would come again.

Took my parents and wife here for Mother's Day. When we got there our table was ready as promised. However, it was a buffet only - no ordering from the menu. So we were ok with that, but we had to go up and down stairs to get to it! Not bad for me, bad for my folks. There WAS an elevator option - which they used - but how weird is that? Buffet slections were just OK. I was floored when I got the ticket - $35.00 per person for a mediocre buffet. I've had much better ones for less. (Philbrook's La Villa for one). Not only that, the service was poor. All the waitress had to do was keep our glasses full and remove used plates. But she would disappear for a while. I had to get up and go ask one of the waiters near the kitchen for butter, and this seemed to annoy them. When I made the reservations, I wish they would have told me it was buffet only and quoted the price. Lesson learned - next time I will ask! We were not impressed.

My husband and I stayed at The Ambassador Hotel, which houses The Chalkboard, for our first wedding anniversary. Our experience at The Chalkboard was probably the worst we've ever had at any restaurant. We are young but accustomed to fine dining and had anticipated eating at The Chalkboard for a long time. We entered The Chalkboard and stood at the entrance of the restaurant for almost five minutes without being greeted. After deciding there was no sign of a host, we seated ourselves. The restaurant was not busy, as it was breakfast time. Three or four waiters passed us over a span of 15 minutes without even greeting us. Finally we decided to leave. While The Chalkboard may have an excellent menu, the service (from our experience at least) is bottom of the barrel.

We ate at The Chalkboard after seeing a matinee of Wicked at the theatre downtown. Conceding that the meal would be pricey, we went all out with some Foie Gras as an appetizer. This rich and tender delicacy was a suitable start to a delicious meal. The special salad with roasted garlic and figs was refreshingly simple. Beef Wellington, the house specialty, was perfectly cooked and delicious. The crust was crisp and golden and the duck pate filling was a surprising burst of flavor. The other main course was a little disappointing and reminded us of storebought beef stroganoff.

  • Greg P.

As other reviewers have noted, the Beef Wellington is very good. The atmosphere is great and service could not be better. The hotel/restaurant stands alone in a reconstruction district but parking is easy and a visit should be on every Tulsa visitors agenda.

the only things going for this restaurant are the atmosphere and extended hours. the escargot was so dry it could have been prepared 3 days before. the manager sat at the bar the entire time we were there---working on her emails. the owner was no where in sight and no apparent way to contact him on their web.

One of the top meals I've had in Tulsa. The food was excellent and the ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. Service was great as well. The house olive bread and herb butter is amazing. I think I hate an entire loaf. The Chalkboard House salad was really a great combination of flavors. I liked how the berry vinaigrette wasn't too sweet like many fruity vinaigrette. For our entrees, I had the Colorado Lamb Chops and my wife had the Beef Wellington. Both were outstanding with tons of flavor and cooked to perfection. For desert, we had the bread pudding and chocolate lava cake. They were both very good, but not on the same level as the entrees. To respond to a previous poster, it's not overpriced either. It's very reasonably priced for a restaurant of this caliber. Apps $8-12, salads around $8, and entrees $25-35. Portions are nicely sized...you should be pleasantly full but not miserable after a salad, entree, and desert.

I've probably dined at the Chalkboard at least 6 times in the past 8 months...and each time, I'm more impressed than the last. The food is consistently superb. The service always outstanding. And, today...a simply incredible breakfast skillet (do NOT miss the chance to order the bacon :)

My experience with "the Chalkboard" once again wasn't as expected. The menu didn't have alot of choices and in my personal opinion their food is WAY over priced.

  • Rebecca F.

The menu is varied, but way overpriced. I mean WAY. Plus- the appetizer selection sucks, so if you're thinking you could impress a date or have a romantic glass of wine and apps at a fancy bar/restaurant, go somewhere else. Just go somewhere else in general.

Excellent food and atmosphere. Probably the best beef wellington in a puff pastry you will find! Great drink and wine list.

Tucked away in the basement of the trendy Ambassador Hotel in downtown Tulsa, the Chalkboard is a surprisingly sophisticated without being uptight. If you need to present a good impression to a client, the Chalkboard is an excellent choice.

New to Tulsa and foodies, my husband and I had been dying to try The Chalkboard. It was great! We ended up there on a Sunday and were the first seated for dinner. He had the famous Beef Wellington and I had the double pork chop with gnocci...both were amazing. The service was good too. We started with the crab cake, followed by Caesar salad for him and house salad for me. After the entrees we shared the bread pudding. Everything is delicious and we will definitely be back for special occassions together and with family.
