Little known fact: Big Al's caters! At a work lunch this week, Big Al's brought in some bomb healthy food. Large salads, great wraps, pita and hummus. We get a lot of catering and Big Al's was a refreshing change of pace. The Turkey Avocado salad was not skimpy by any means - loaded with mega-chunks of deli turkey, avocado spread, lettuce, tomatoes, and mozzarella, it was a true test of strength to tackle. A variety of wraps (oriental chicken, mediterranean, turkey avocado, etc) were expertly assembled and many people mixed and matched 1/2 wraps and salads. I wouldn't have thought of Big Al's to bring in (and DELIVER!) a catered lunch but they did a bang up job.

Love this place! Great fresh food. It's very dependable and the people are friendly. The turkey avocado salad is my favorite! We also love their smoothies! You can also call in orders and pick them up, which is great for work situations.

So, if we're being honest, when I first heard that the name of this place was "Big Al's Healthy Foods" I felt like I'd never heard a bigger oximoron. However, after trying it out a few times, I am officially a fan of this great local find! Big Al's is one of the few places in Tulsa that has a truly healthy menu. They have TONS of vegetarian options! My favorite is the Zadzeekee wrap, a Greek inspired explosion of flavor inside of a Garlic Herb tortilla. I'm not a vegetarian, but I could be easily talked into "Meatless Mondays" if it includes one of these. Sunflower seeds, sprouts, hard boiled eggs....yes. Just, yes. For the low carb lovers, they have a multitude of salads. I tried the Mediterranean chicken salad today (minus the tomatoes and olives, because I'm picky...) and it was fantastic! However, I wish it had had a little more chicken in it. This is one of my favorite places to grab lunch. It's quick, in a great location in Midtown and I know after eating it that I have done something great for my body! What's your favorite meal here? I'd love to give it a try the next time I drop in!

I'm visiting from Texas, and this was a great place to try! I like the fact that everything is fresh and healthy, not to mention locally owned. A great place to eat, even if you aren't "trying" to eat healthy! I'd love to try something different if I visit Tulsa again. There are PLENTY of options to choose from at this quaint and delicious shop, you won't be disappointed!

I have enjoyed eating here for years. My children are avocado sandwiches and hummus when they were babies. My favorite has always been the burrito supreme with extra zadzeekee or the stress relief juice. You really feel good after eating here with no guilt. I could have Big Als everyday. I wish there was one in South Tulsa.

Big Al's, where have you been all my life? Oh... You say you've been about a mile north of where I've been working for the past 2.5 years? You say I've passed you too many times to count when I was on my way to McDonald's? My bad. I'm glad I stopped in today. I got a gourmet meal at the speed of a fast food place. Big Al's has a cafeteria feel to it when you enter. Formica-topped tables, red lunch trays, paper plates and styrofoam cups. The speed and the surroundings are where the similarities to chain restaurants end, though. The service was excellent. I was greeted by a smiling face and pleasant small talk as I took time checking out the menu. And when I stopped back at the counter before leaving to grab a to-go menu and told the woman behind it how good my first time was, she seemed genuinely grateful for my business. I ordered a lemon burst smoothie and the Tuscan turkey grilled wrap. The smoothie was just the right amount of sour and sweet. The wrap consisted of sun-dried tomato pesto, smoked turkey, mozzarella cheese, alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes, and lettuce. It was expertly cooked with those nice little grill marks that let you know it's been toasted but not burnt. The pesto was delicious. And the meal filled me up without making me feel stuffed. It'll be tough not to get the same thing the next time I visit, but at the same time I can't wait to try some new things on their menu. By the way it was $11 for the meal. Maybe a little pricey for some but worth it to me to support a local business and to eat better. One major drawback is the parking situation. There are very few spots in their lot. I was committed to trying the place out today, (and I had time to kill) so I didn't mind making several circles of the block waiting for one to open. We've just had a major snowstorm, so nearby public lots were inaccessible for my car but may do in the future. I wouldn't mind a little walk. I guess I should thank you, Big Al's, for saving me the extra gas I've been wasting driving to McDonald's!

I go here all the time! the name of the place is deceiving but it is truly a healthy food restaurant. I love the honey-wheat avocado wrap (easy on the cheese) with added sunflower seeds!!! seriously, everything is fresh and the prices are great too! try to avoid rush hrs because parking a real limited. it is difficult to find healthy foods in Tulsa and this place is one of the very few. =]

this place is my FAVORITE. who needs to make 3 different stops at smoothie king, subway, and panera when you can get a smoothie, sandwich, AND soup (all amazing, by the way) at the same place?! that's what I call a triple-whammy. I think most people bypass this place because of the looks and/or the somewhat deceiving restaurant name. but who cares what a restaurant looks like when it has awesome, tasty, AND healthy food?! I always get the blueberry smoothie (bananas are included in every smoothie) and small turkey pita with mozzarella. sometimes, if I'm feeling real hungry, I get the vegetable soup, too. the soup changes daily, but every single kind I've tried, I've THOROUGHLY enjoyed. the staff is real friendly and if you're wanting to pick up a quick lunch to go, you can call in to order one for pick up. I love me some Big Al's.

Super Solid, healthy food. It's reasonably priced. It's delicious and the portion sizes are perfect. Fresh and fast and delicious. Every time I come to Tulsa I will make it a point to eat here. Probably twice a day!!! I hope they stay open another 43 years. Keep on doing what you guys do. Simple, reasonably priced, great portion sizes, and Fast. You made an Austin boy very, very happy.

I don't eat here often - because I'm always reminded I don't really like it. I typically order off the vegetarian menu. It really is just "meh". This last visit I ordered the Taco Salad. I'm pretty sure they were microwaving the pinto beans in a plastic container as I was waiting. The concept is good but they seem to miss the mark with their ingredients and preparation.

Love me a healthy spot since there are few in town. I haven't been here in more than 20 years & glad to know it's still very good. The wraps looked awesome but I had the ultimate salad which was wonderful! It had spinach, avocado, sunflower seeds, turkey, egg, sprouts...and I also had a scoop of tuna salad which was good.

Not many options for a healthy shot on this side of the tracks.... Was down here between calls and needed something healthy and this popped up on the ole yelper.... Good place, seemed nice... Was in the mood for something good fresh BIG and tasty...... So I figured ordering the SUPER JUMBO would fit the bill..... Sprouts, Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef, Cheese, and Guacamole goodness.... Ordered a side of tabouli just in case it wasn't enough..... Glad I DID- it came out as a small whole pita split in 2, not too small by all measures, but with the name SUPER JUMBO I thought I was getting a BRUISER of a sandwich/pita... Tasty, none the less, but I left hungry... Got a growin appetite here and it was not too satisfied... Ill try it again..

Great quality, healthy foods, fast service. Parking can be a Bitch. Other than that, you will thoroughly enjoy the flavorful sandwiches that you can customize to your delight. This restaurant is a great alternative to chain sandwich shops.

When I come to Tulsa... I MUST eat at two places: Hideaway and Big Al's. I love their Zadzeekee wrap.

I've been going to Big Al's for lunch nearly every Friday for at least the past year. The staff are always friendly, service is great, and food is delicious. I've never had anything there I didn't like. Portions are generous, food is fresh, and they will modify your order to your liking. If you like hot sauce, try their home made salsa. It's spicy! They also have really good smoothies made from fresh ingredients and aren't full of sugar or other junk. I'm pretty sure the soups are homemade because they taste like soup my mama would make. AND they have Diet Mountain Dew on the fountain. That's pretty much the icing on the cake. That reminds me: homemade cookies are also good! Today at lunch, somebody in the parking lot backed into my car. Without going into all the details (I wouldn't want to embarrass the rude woman who scratched my car and then drove away) the staff were very helpful in that situation. TLDR: great healthy food, helpful staff, great local place to eat

YUMMMM....I love Big Al's. I only wish they were open later. They close at 4:00 PM. Today I couldn't decide which wrap to get, so I ordered the zadzeke wrap & had them add tuna too it...Delish! Their smoothies are all good, and they are happy to customize them for you. All of the food here tastes super fresh & you know it's good for you....spinach, sprouts, sunflower seeds, the list goes on & on. For meat eaters, they do have turkey & chicken. The wrap I ordered today was large enough for 2 people to split. Go to Big Al's, support a small local restaurant, and have a wonderful lunch.
