Yum! Our food was great! There was no waiting and our waiter was nice and attentive. No complaints. We had the Cadillac queso, fajita quesidilla, and taco soup. It was all very good. Way better than Eskimo joes for sure!

I like going to Mexico Joe's for a quick Mexican dinner! It is pretty "Americanized" but I enjoy it. My family enjoys the Cadillac Queso- it is fabulous, and all you can eat Taco nights are the bomb diggity! If you order a Margarita you will not be disappointed, they have a great formula ! Oh, and their fresh salsa.....

Service was fantastic & the atmosphere was great. Don't be fooled by the "Kids Eat Free" menu option. If we would've realized the smothered nachos used a tablespoon of shredded cheese & were not actually smothered, we would've ordered something different for our picky eater.

Meh. I expect more from Mexican food places this close to the border. The fresh flour tortillas are the best item. Other than that, I would say you could find more interesting fare at a taco truck here in Stillwater. The chips & salsa are fast food-ish, and so is the rice. My Chimichuri steak & veggie bowl had undercooked "grilled" zucchini & squash on it. The waitress asked how we liked our food, and when I told her not so much she said "I'm sorry," and sped off, not to be seen again for 20 minutes. Manager did come by, and he took care of it. Fun atmosphere, but I came tonight for the food... And it was not a very good dining experience. Sorry, Joe's, I was disappointed.

We got there pretty late...it was after 10pm. They took our name and told us it would be 45 mins. We didn't wait that long, I think it was closer to 20 mins. Our waitress was friendly. We placed our order and got our food in a decent time frame. I had the Chicken Tortilla Soup and salad. The food was great!

Whenever we visit family in Stillwater we usually eat at one of the Joe's restaurants. This last visit we stopped by Mexico Joe's - everyone in the family loves Tex-Mex. My 2 year old nephew loves their tortillas and queso, so getting him to eat at the same time as the rest of us is an added incentive to eat here. We were seated quickly and our waitress was super friendly and attentive. The dining room was only a third of the way full when we got there (early on a Saturday) but by the time we got our food all of the tables were full. Still, even though the dining room was full our waitress came by several times to see how we were doing on everything. BTW the thinner looking salsa, if you've never had it, can be pretty spicy! That day it was SPICY!!! Thankfully I had some yummy queso to help me out. The chips are ok, nothing special. I prefer the white queso to the yellow (the yellow seems pretty thin) but both are good. This trip I ordered the Veggie Quesadilla. It was grilled nicely and stuffed with zucchini, squash, onions, and cheese. I was kind of disappointed by the veggie filling, like it wasn't bad but there wasn't any seasoning on the veggies. And to me zucchini and squash taste the same so I would have liked to see some different veggies thrown in there. It came with a side of white queso (yum) so that helped a little. I ordered the quesadilla a la carte, but if you order the full entrée it comes with rice and beans. If you order a soda or tea your drink will come in a plastic Mexico Joe's cup that you can take with you. You're basically paying for the cup anyway, you might as well take it. This time I ordered water so I didn't get a new cup, but my cabinet is full of them so that's ok. Overall it's a fun themed place in Stillwater. Next time I'll go back to my old standby: crunchy tacos!

I have to confess that much of why I love MJs is nostalgia. Been a huge fan since they were located in a hole in the wall at the other end of town back in the day. But it is pretty darn good food regardless of the trip down memory lane. Salsa comes in mild and medium so you can mix them so you can make it as spicy or mild as you like. The mild is basically chunks of tomatoes and onions. The mild is pretty good with a little kick. Tonight we asked for the special hot stuff. Actually pretty fiery. I had the T en T with spicy ground beef taco. Not a big fan of the spicy beef. Got the regular ground beef taco - muy bien. Tamales were surprisingly good. The masa had a pretty thick Consistency - border line too thick but tasty. Rice and beans were...well...rice and beans. MJ's is a unique flavor so if your in Stilly looking for something unique, this is your place. Buenos Noches.

Of the three Joe's establishments, Mexico Joes is my favorite. The staff is usually friendly and helpful, and the food is great. On my most recent visit, I went with a group of friends. We were able to get a table right away, but it was a little cramped for six people. The waitress was great about keeping our chips and salsa refilled. Speaking of salsa, they have two varieties on the table, a smooth medium heat salsa, and a chunky mild. I usually love spicy salsa, but the mild salsa here is so flavorful, I can't get enough of it. I ordered the chicken burrito with white queso, served with black beans and rice. The burrito was pretty good, but I would try a different meat next time. The black beans and rice were cooked well and were a good addition to my meal. This wasn't my favorite meal here, but it definitely hit the spot.

Place is just fine. It is Mexican food in Stillwater which has to be taken in to consideration. I had Sonora Tacos. They were just okay. The two people I were with liked their food more. One had some beef enchiladas and the other a salad. The person who had the salad was very pleased and it did look pretty good. Decent salsa and chips. Nice bar. Decent environment. Decent service. Everything was just middle out the road.

It's not cute on the outside it we weren't looking at trying one of the other Joe's establishments then I know we would have drove right passed this not even giving it a second look. Once you are inside though it starts to get better. Indoors the decor was very upbeat and lively. The menu is a Tex Mex menu but that doesn't mean it's bad food guys. Everyone at my table ordered a different quesadilla. All of us really enjoyed ours. I had the spinach and mushroom, and my table also ordered the chicken bacon and the chicken fajita. Both other parties at my table were not happy with the rice. I didn't find it to bad but they had one bite and wouldn't eat any more. It was kind of yellow for my taste it looked like the lipton rice packets you can get for $1 at the grocery store. I will go again next time I'm in town.

Mexico Joe's is the least awful of the "three Joe's" establishments (Eskimo Joe's, Joseppis, and Mexico Joe's). The food is ok, and it is good for kids. It is kind of hard to mess up Mexican food. You usually don't have to wait for a table and it is relatively inexpensive. For better quality Mexican in Stillwater, El Vaquero is a preferred option. Better yet, drive to Edmond and go to Ted's. But if you do eat here, it likely won't be a disaster.

Fajitas and Mike Hosty Duo, that's all this place has going for itself. All the other food really stinks, the chicken is microwaved rubber! The salsa isn't very good either. I only go when they have the Hosty Duo playing, and even then I moan at the beer choices. Wish they had the same choices as their neighboring sister restaurant.

My favorite of the Joe's! Some people complain about its Tex-mex nature, but they don't promise to be anything authentic. They are what they are. That doesn't mean the food isn't delicious. Tacos, burritos, chimichangas (a personal favorite), and more filled with the meat you want. Weekly food and drink specials. Speedy service with a smile. Usually less crowded than the original Joe's so worth the extra drive to get there. And the take home cups! My favorite meal lately has been a big bowl of the chicken tortilla soup and a small side salad. The soup has intense flavors and is filling because of the added rice - something I hadn't seen in similar soups at other restaurants. The chips are perfectly made and seasoned, and the medium salsa is so good I'd buy bottles of it if I could. Possibly my favorite salsa of all Mexican restaurants ever. One more thing - the beer club. For about $15 you can join up. They'll personalize a glass mug that they keep there at the bar for you and that allows you to get discounts on domestic draft beer for the rest of your life. It saved me a lot of money during my grad school years. If you pay an extra $10 you can get a shirt embroidered with your name, too. Mexico Joe's is a great place.

This may just be the worst food in Stillwater. It is definitely the worst Mexican food. I ordered the chicken fajitas quesadilla. When they came out to me they had nothing but cheese and chicken in them. Fajitas quesadilla at any decent Mexican/Tex Mex the would have grilled bell peppers and onions in them. If I wanted just cheese and chicken I would have just ordered cheese and chicken quesadillas. When I said something to the waitress about it she said "you should have asked me what to order before hand I could have told you that they come like that". She said that is they way most of Stillwater likes them. A good waiter or waitress would have said something before hand. Now I will say this is not the first bad experience I had at MJS but it is the first time I felt the need to say something about it. If my wife didn't like the salsa I would never go back again. The best restaurant Stan Clark had he shut down to sell hot dogs and bowling balls. From a guy who has lived in Stillwater his whole life you would be just fine never going to a Stan Clark restaurant. If you want cheese fries just go to Bad Brads, they are better.

I like the other "Joe's" eateries, but Mexico is certainly at the bottom of their heap. I don't think there is a classification for the type of Mex food they serve. It is not TexMex or OkieMex, it is a "let's hook 'em in here so they'll buy a Tshirt Mex". We always have attentive servers, but the food just isn't par.

  • Corey F.

Just okay. Definitely "Oklahoma" Mexican. White queso had a good taste but was a little runny. The green enchiladas were very plain and the rice was quite bland. Nothing was 'bad' but it wasn't groundbreaking. Seemed to have good drink specials but didn't drink this time. Price was average.

I guess I will come here to defend Mexico Joe's but before I do, let me make something very clear. You are not coming here for authentic Mexican food. It is important that you understand that. You are coming here because it's a Stillwater tradition and part of the Joe's family of restaurants. Much like you go to McDonald's for a burger, it's not the best burger you'll eat but you go anyway because it harkens you back to good times. Mexico Joe's does that for me. I ate here in college, I ate here before the calf fry back in the day, and now my family enjoys our trips to Stillwater and Mexico Joe's. We don't come here expecting authentic Mexican food or fine dining. We come because the food is consistent, my wife LOVES the queso, and my kids can't get enough of the sopapillas. What more can one want in a dining experience? I understand that it might not be everyone's cup of tea and if you are looking for something authentic, perhaps you should try somewhere else. But for me and my family, there is something comforting about returning to Mexico Joe's. It's like coming home and that is always enjoyable.

It's not Tex Mex or Authentic Mexican food...not sure what it is? The fountain drinks were flat and the sweet tea sucked (taste like instant). However they do have good flour tortillas with Land'O Lakes butter and good butter knives.

I've worked at Mexico Joes for over a year now. It is not supposed to be traditional Mexican food nor is it supposed to be Tex mex. It is a sonoran style of Mexican food which is characterized by its colorful tortillas and fresh salsas. To touch on some previous comments, it is definitely not what many people are used to but there is a ton of stuff on the menu to please pretty much anyone who comes in. Also, since some of the earlier comments we have revamped our menu by taking away some of our less popular items and replaced them with much more flavorful ones. We also have seven different kinds of meat and six different sauces to please anyone's pallet. If you don't like one, then you will probably like another! We definitely specialize on options. Please don't let one bad experience deter you from coming again. We have a lot to offer. I definitely appreciate the good feedback towards the service. That is definitely our main focus. Our mission statement is "to delight every guest by giving my best". And we work hard every day to make that statement true. We take pride in making every visit special. Especially if you had a bad experience before, we try to go above and beyond to right that wrong. So come in, try something new, and let us delight you!

Worst Hispanic food in town. They staff is great but the food is so tex mex it can barely be called Mexican food. People have had to bribe be to eat here. I once complained about my beans being burnt so instead of giving me new ones they just put a new scoop on top of the old beans

After declining the hour wait at Eskimo Joe's we ended up here. It was just OK. I've definitely had better mexican food elsewhere and the salsa at the table was pretty mediocre. Probably wouldn't go back.

The only reason we ate at Mexico Joe's was because there was an hour and a half wait at Eskimo Joe's (which we have ate at several times and absolutely love) . We had a game to attend and couldn't wait that long, so at the suggestion of the waitstaff @ Eskimo Joe's, we gave it a try. What a mistake. Plain and simple, the food here is just not good. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because our waitress was nice and attentive. The queso was runny and bland. I had the Cadilac Chimichanga, which was greasy and stuffed with overseasoned chicken breast meat. The rice tasted like rice a roni, and the black beans just tasted weird. Even the salsa/chips were just ok. My daughter had the sour cream enchiladas (that were stuffed with the same overseasoned chicken breast meat !!) and they were awful. I will not eat here again!

Though this is not the best Mexican or Tex-Mex food in Stillwater, it has a fun and unique atmosphere and tradition that cannot be matched. They have a lovely patio, great margaritas, and you must try Cadillac Queso (good with chicken or beef, though I prefer chicken).

  • Jared E.

I'm sure there's tons of people in Stillwater who love this place, but I can't see how I'd ever willingly go back. The food is mediocre and the one time we went I quit with half the plate left and left feeling sick. Maybe it's better with some liquor in you, but sober it's a poor excuse for a restaurant, let alone Mexican food.

All you can eat tacos on Monday nights?! Um yes.

  • Starla R.

Better than expected. Service was great. The food was hot and delicious. I forgot what it's called, but they have a loaded queso appetizer that was really, really tasty. Definitely not authentic Mexican food, but it's still pretty good.

  • Hillary S.

This might be the worst Mexican food I have ever had. I got the blue corn enchiladas on a recommendation and could not have been more disappointed. The chicken had a really weird spice to it -- something unrelated to typical Mexican spices. The sauce was avocado-ranch sauce (why, because in Oklahoma we have to have ranch on everything, even ethnic food?!) Even the rice tasted like it was taken from a box of Uncle Bens. And the beans and no flavor. I will never waste another cent on this horrendously below-average dining spot. I want to support a local business, and I respect the "Joe's" brand, but I'll be doing Chipotle from here on out.

Mediocre. Typical tourist trough. However, the sangria margarita swirls do rock!

  • Dale M.

If I have ever had worse Mexican food I can't remember when. I gave it an extra star because they do get some good live music from time to time. Every two or three years I give their food another chance and just like another reviewer wrote, they are consistent. Go for the music or drinks on the patio, but avoid the food.

  • Firecracker H.

I have to agree with another post. Do not come here thinking you are going to eat authentic Mexican food. This is considered Tex-Mex food and not sure you even get that. The chips, salsa, flour tortillas and queso are ok. The food is...well it's...hmmm I guess fast food style Mexican food. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very cool and very attentive. I always go back and drink beer, eat chips, queso salsa and soft tacos. Since I'm not a fan of the rest of their selection, it's a win win for me.

Terrific! The atmosphere is festive and welcoming, the staff is courteous, professional and VERY conscientious, and the food.....absolutely amazing! The tortilla soup is magnificent!

    (5)
  • Preethi C.

The food and atmosphere are horrible. The chips are stale and the food tastes like a microwave tv dinner. The bar scene and ambiance are not as cool as its sister restaurants, Eskimo Joe's & Joseppi's. Ultimately, there's really no draw to coming here.

    (1)
  • Rachel S.

Save your money. Go to El Chico's. This place is too dark and the food isn't very good.

    (2)
  • J T.

Overpriced food, Mexican style fast food restaurants taste better, for a much lower price! Chips were cold, salsa bland, fajitas had very little meat, and I only received two tortillas (which I would think would be the cheapest thing for them to provide). The service was slow, waitress unfriendly; I could go on forever...... Stillwater already has a poor restaurant selection, and Mexico Joes doesn't help.

We've had two wonderful meals here before game time!

  • Heather G.

Overall pretty bad. The food's ok I guess. Re-heated tex-mex enchiladas, tacos, and burritos. If it's 99 cent taco night, it might be worth it. Plus, you get the free Joe's cup. But when you get to the bottom of your marg. and find a piece of rolled up spit-wad looking tissue, deal's off.

    (2)
  • Daniel W.

I always loved the atmosphere. but the food always made me sick. Once you leave Oklahoma, you learn that "okie-mex" is not the way to go...

ok food, but pricey for what you get. Pseudo-mexican food

  • Matthew G.

Mexico Joes has always been a long time favorite of mine. The food is pretty good for Tex-Mex, and the atmosphere is awesome. You could EASILY spend and entire afternoon on the outdoor patio having drinks and socializing with friends. Their Salsa and chips freshly made and comes in three varieties, Fresco (mild), Medium, and LOCO (HOT). They have daily specials and a great overall menu. The servers are usually pretty prompt and always friendly. This is a MUST visit on any trip to Stillwater. It's like a laid back Eskimo Joes.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
