There is absolutely no reason for anyone to dine here when there are spaghetti o's in the pantry. As you sit and wait for your microwaved week old lasagna, look out the window and notice the little Italian place across the road. Pack your family back into the car and go over there to eat instead. There is a feisty little Italian guy over there that makes fresh food! The only person that needs to come to Fratelli's is chef Gordon Ramsey.

Perhaps you are a fan of long road trips. If you are, you'll know that there are two points at any road trip where it is imperative that you do NOT stop because it will cause frustration and agony that can cripple the trip and make your family try to strangle you with an iPod cord: The first and last hour. If you stop in the first hour, you're killing any chance of building the momentum you'll need to cover 500+ miles that day without the whole thing falling apart; and you never stop in the last hour because dear God you've already spent 12+ hours in the car already and you JUST WANT TO GET HOME. I say this so you can understand how good Frateli's is: Whenever we're heading back east on I-40 and it's remotely justifiable to stop for lunch or dinner or afternoon snack or dessert, we always make time for this fantastic little authentic Italian restaurant in Shawnee. The owner is friendly, you can see them making the sauces when you walk in, and the food is the essence of what I'd call "simple Italian:" It won't win awards but it's tasty -- the real deal. If it weren't cliche I'd use the word rustic. By all means make the trip east and check it out; one of the best low-end Italian spots I've found. (I've had lots of great stuff but personally would recommend ravioli in a cream sauce, with seafood or ricotta. Yum ...)

3rd time here, my wife likes the pasta premivera and ordered that but was served something different. I've had one of there pizzas and calzone and now the chicken fetticini Alfredo. It was served very hot and very very bland. I had to salt and pepper this thing like crazy. My wife's was also very bland. The server never refilled my drink or asked if everything was ok. She came back to the table to tell us we can pay up front but never saw a ticket. We were the only people in here at the time around 430 pm. Oh the tortellini soup tastes like the canned white hat guy. I don't think I'll return unless it's for pizza.

Entrees tasted okay...portion size was lacking, at least the ravioli..4 ravioli for $10 is not only a ripoff but I had to eat my daughter's leftovers just to feel somewhat satisfied. The bread was almost burnt and not good at all. The outside is a rundown old Mazzios and the inside needs some serious updating...this could be a really nice restaurant in Shawnee if the owners put some money into it...doubt I'll go back

A staple on the Shawnee food scene for over a decade now, Frateli's is hands down (and the only place) you can get Italian food of any kind in the area. Authentically owned by an Italian family, they make great Italian dishes and are wonderfully nice and accommodating. The owner, who I should know by name now but I merely call "Frateli," is always on hand with his wife and other family members ensuring a comfortable experience. Frateli's is worth the trip alone for its pizzas! They are outstanding and some of the most authentic New York Style pizzas I've had outside of Manhattan. The vegetable pizza is amazing, the on special occasion served gnocchi is great as well. This is not the Olive Garden here thankfully but a nice, family run Italian restaurant that people come from all over to dine. If Frateli's would capitalize on their pizza business by offering delivery instead of pickup only they would no doubt corner the market in this area.

A big surprise. No chain fare here but real Italian dishes with subtle wine sauces. Try the chicken carciofi.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
