You have to accept Eischen's Bar for what it is.......It is an old establishment with alot of color and personality. It has some bad reviews for being greasy, gas station chicken and dirty but that is not what they are about or it is fair to them. We are from Fort Worth and have seen it featured several times on Triple D. Finally made the effort to get there and try it when we were visiting OU, because my husband grew up loving and eating fried chicken. He was not disappointed at all. None of us were. I took tums before we even ordered I was so scared of feeling greased out etc. No worries.....thought I would maybe eat one wing. Instead I ate four pieces and could have had more, but I don't eat fried food so was a little worried. It looks a little greasy in some of the pics submitted, but it was not at all. (In the context of fried chicken) It was served super hot, it was very juicy and crispy and I just can't imagine what more you would want with fried chicken. Some in our group wanted honey, which they don't serve so bring your own if you are dependent on honey. It is served with onion and pickles and white bread, which I thought was fun. We only ordered the okra, but not being a southern girl I thought it was good and crispy and crunchy. My group thought it was a little well done, but I guess it is just personal. So we did have to drive an hour from Norman to get there, but it was fun and I am glad we did it. We bought T-shirts and have a good memory for taking the trip. I will say it was a Tuesday at noon and there was a sign that said it can take up to two hours to get fried chicken on the week-end so be prepared. For a couple reviews they were wrong about the price.....it's $14.00 and you get 8 pieces of chicken....they have no problem splitting a basket and personally none of us could eat 8 nice size pieces. Four of us and we took 3 pieces home.

Well if you live in Oklahoma you have probably either been here or heard about it a lot. Probably the best chicken in the world.

Good crispy bird but NO CREDIT CARDS!?!?!? How ghetto and anti-customer centric can you get? Again, bird is yummy

Some of the best chicken around. Reminds me of my moms. Wish they had other drinks besides beer soda and water. The drive out from OKC is bout 20-30 mins but a relaxing drive in mid afternoon.

We were told this was the best fried chicken ever so naturally it peaked our curiosity so we had to try it while we were in Oklahoma. I'm sorry to report back that this was NOT and I repeat NOT the best fried chicken that I've ever had. If I had to find a close comparison, I would say that it's close to something you'd buy at a local supermarket or Albertsons. I'm not sure if I'd come back and wait in the long lines to find a table to sit at. Everything about this whole experience was different. You walk into a bar or dive dingy bar and you wait in a line to grab your own table. It just seems very unorganized to me and if you have kids with you, you can forget about finding a table b/c you have to stand over people eating and make them feel uncomfortable so they'll leave faster. Also, you have to wave down your waiters because they don't know new from old customers. Once you place in your order - 1, 2, 3 whole fried chickens, nachos, french fries or cut up fried okra then your orders place in the queue and it takes about 45 mins until you can eat. It's best if you call in to place your order and upon arriving and sitting down, you can tell your waiter you called in the order and the chicken will come out just in time. Whole chickens will cost you around $12 which comes with pickles and pickled onions. This place is a cash establishment only so make sure you have enough cash on hand.

Fried Chicken: dredged and floured with a hint of seasoning, served hot, maybe too hot as the meat is dry; not sure what animal I eat, maybe cornish hen or something I hit on the way. Seemed to be missing two key elements: Buttermilk and peanut oil. Frito Pie: an 8 oz layer of Fritos, 2 oz of a beef, bean, and flour based chili, and 4 oz of american cheese. Fried Okra: crumb flour based and deep fried. Missing flavor and crispiness. Nachos: 8 oz of store bought chips, canned nacho sauce, and the aforementioned chili. This must be a new item as they have not figured out how to cover the chips yet still have that crispy crunch. Decor: Wow, 70s style diner, with stained covered ceiling tiles and tables and chairs that came straight out of a yard sale. The facade might be from the 19th century, but that is about it. Ok, maybe the staff as well. What's with the Budweiser banners, really, really... Service: It was a reality check, I kept thinking what Twilight Zone episode I was in ( most likely the one where the waiter was an alien). Price: Uh, $13.00 for a 10 oz fried chicken, really, really... I mean there can't be much overhead at least from what I saw. Maybe they're confused of what City they live in; because, last I checked, I didn't see a 90120 zip code

Amazing fried chicken served with white bread and bread and butter pickles. Delicious. I ate here twice last year and can't wait to go back.

Before I start my review, let me address some of the big points mentioned in other reviews. I hate sifting through BS so let me do the dirty work for you. This place is stuck in another century when it comes to payment so the fact that they do not accept credit or debit is a bit unnerving. I guess I lucked out on a Friday night because I didn't have a hard time finding a table at all. All of the free tables were littered with other people's stuff so just accept that when you sit down, they will clean while you are there. They don't have a menu, just a mention of food on the walls. They also serve beer but there isn't a list which is another low point. FOOD Don't get the nachos as they are absolutely disgusting and compare to ballpark stuff. If you get more than chicken and okra then you are wasting your money. The chicken is VERY good and I was very surprised at that. I had always heard at how good it was but never really thought anything of it. They give you bread and a pickle plate to come with it too. They mix sweet and sour pickles as well so if you are one of those people like me that thinks sweet pickles are terrible then make sure to stay away. There was this weird green sawdust on the floor too. Kinda weird. Aside from the disgusting pickle mix, nachos, and awkward seating it was a great experience. I would have given this place a 2 or 3 but the chicken is good enough that it gets a 4. Yes, I said it. Without the chicken, this place is a dump. That being said, you should check it out for the chicken.

I love looking at the ratings from my fellow yelpers about Eischens and never have a seen any other restaurant have such polar reviews. It's either great or horrible. Born and proudly raised in Oklahoma, so I of course have heard about the Legend of Eischens. Its this mythical place that serves "the best fried chicken ever". I disagree. Completely. When I rate places, I typically only factor in how the food tastes for my ranking. For Eischen's and in particular the distance from Oklahoma City, I will make an exception. It is not worth it to drive 30+ minutes out to rural Oklahoma to go to Eischens. Some food is worth long drives. This was a letdown. Of epic proportions. Eischen's one good quality about their food is that they serve it in a very down to earth manner. No glitz needed. Which I love. They also give humongous portions. Unfortunately, its just a big fried chicken to me. Yes, they do fry it right so that the breast is moist but I don't think they season it much at all. I didn't have many bites before my mouth grew tired of the chicken. Moist but plain. I had to douse my chicken with ketchup and tobasco sauce so I could eat more but that's just because I was feeling stupid/guilty for coming all the way out here and not eating more. Their okra is different, I think they smoke it. It was good but I prefer the normal method of serving it. I came here for the famous chicken. I left wishing I had gone to Bobo's instead.

Only place in world to get fried chicken. The fried okra isn't bad either. Not really anything else needs to be said here! : )

Chicken! Chicken! Chicken! Four stars for the Chicken. 2 stars for the rest of the bar. Oh, the Okra is also very yummy. I'm so fortunate to be able to travel the country and eat at some amazing places. In this case, my amazement was discovering the best fried chicken I have ever eaten in one of the best representations of a "Dive Bar". What else could a foodie desire? :-)

Ok... Eichen's was freaking AWESOME!! The whole atmosphere of the place was awesome and even the drive out there was fun! we even saw some shooting stars!!! the chickn and the okra was phenomenal! we kept making crispy chicken sandwiches with ranch using the bread that comes with it! it was truly an awesome place and well worth the drive to Okarche!! quaint little town! I kinda felt like i was in Smallville!! For 5 people we had: 2 whole chickens, 2 things of okra, 1 pitcher of beer, and 2 sodas.. the whole dinner costs us $45. thats IT! 45 for 5 people???! AWESOME! they only serve water, soda and beer. and by beer i mean, Coors and Bud Light. CASH ONLY so dont try to your credit cards.. no plates or silverware-- one of the coolest things about the place! very chill place! HIGHLY recommended!

Listen: This place is not worth the drive from OKC, seriously!. The waitress is rude, waits till you sit down then tells you to move to another booth although she was not doing anything when you came in and could have told you before you were seated. The chicken is not all that great, I grew up in OKC and never heard of this place. It wasn't that bad but is not worth driving the 30 minutes out of OKC. Stick with KFC if you are looking for chicken.

Making the drive to Eischen's is a right of passage for anyone who grows up around OKC. Having been several times, though, I'm sorry to say that it just isn't worth the hype. If you live in OKC, sure, you should try it at least once... but cross your fingers that you don't get sick. The last (as in NEVER AGAIN) time I went, I must've had a half-cooked chicken or something... I was sick for two days. Now I'm not claiming to be iron stomached, but it's pretty rare that I get food poisoning. Come to find out, at least three of my friends have gotten just as ill on three separate occasions. I don't give out one-star reviews frivolously, but this is probably the only restaurant that I will never visit again. On the plus side, the fried okra is mighty tasty. It does make for a fun weekend outing, just be sure to bring some pepto if you decide to go.

Been all over the the U.S., had the Chicken and Waffles, had some fancy gourmet fried chicken, but Eischen's is still the best fried chicken I've ever tasted. I am not prone to exaggeration. Okarche is one of those towns where if you blink you might drive right past it, and Eischen's is probably the only thing that could put it on the map. They fry the whole chicken for you to order, and serve it up piping hot, the chicken is so moist, even the white meat leaves juices running down your fingers. Whatever the secret is, they're obviously not telling because you can't find fried chicken like this anywhere else. Wash it down with some cold beer and give the fried okra a try too while you're out there. It's definitely out of the way, so only the most dedicated fried chicken lovers ever find it, but there is no shortage of fried chicken lovers in Oklahoma. The place is usually packed at lunch and dinner. You might get lucky and squeeze in between the rushes if you aim for 2-5. Unless the prices have recently skyrocketed I don't know why this has a two $$ rating, the whole chicken was only $9 last time I checked, and a side of fried okra $5. You might not want to share your chicken, but the okra can certainly be passed around.

Great food, great beer, great times! Any one from Oklahoma has most def dabbled in Eischen's chicken with a side of fried okra and a couple of pitchers of beer. Gotta drive out there if you haven't been here or if your are just in town for a bit. FYI - The whole chicken race is always a good way to see who's the man out of your friends. Rules: Order a whole chicken to your self and then crush it. See ya at the finish line.

Eischens has fried chicken, fried okra, nachos, sliced white bread, and a bar. Once you walk in, you have to find your own seating. You might end up having to sit at a table with people you don't know. Service is pretty good, once you find a seat. The food is what it is, but you don't just go for the food, you go for the experience. You have to be ready for some grease. The plates are wax paper so they are pretty eco friendly. I'd give it a 3.5. I'll be back, I'm sure.

  • Onata A.

Best place for some good fried chicken and fried okra. Definitely a great experience. Got to eat on butcher paper not paper plates and all finger food so if you need silverware and plates this isn't for you. Too bad cause it's worth the experience.

Good place with good food, but nothing remarkable. I love the simplicity of their menu. I think it was only 8 items and it was written on their napkin dispenser. Big portions. So, either bring a friend or be prepared to take stuff home. It took about a half hour to drive out there and I'd say it was worth it. If I lived in the same town I would definitely frequent this place, but with it requiring an hour round trip I doubt I'll make a second trip out there during my 4 months in oklahoma.

This has got to be the nastiest place in Oklahoma. And what's with no credit cards accepted? Can we have a hollar for a nice tax write off?? Holla! What's with all the green sh*t on the floor?is it to soak up all the grease and spilt beer? Hmm. Yeah, I was totally grossed out to say the very least.

Luckily we live in Austin, otherwise we would be rotund from eating too much of Eischen's fried chicken. By far the best fried chicken I have ever had. Super flavorful, not greasy, juicy, and wonderful. Coming from OKC the journey is half of the experiance. Rolling out from the "big city" to tiny little okarche gave me a real taste of Oklahoma and I can't wait till next time we make it back.

Pretty cool place out in middle of nowhere. The chicken was pretty good but in my opinion it's not worth driving forever for. The chicken is as good as any soul food place in America and you can fund one of those a lot closer to home! Worth trying once!!!

Another great trip to Eischens. We get to go here once a year while we're visiting and it never disappoints. The menu is small, because they do 1 thing and do it well. It's fried chicken! The whole thing, breast, wings, thighs and drumsticks, juicy and super flavorful and not greasy at all. Forget those boring old grilled chicken breasts that my family eats on a regular basis, every once and awhile you need fried chicken. The fried okra is always perfectly cooked. Somehow, the white onion, slices of white bread and combination of dill and bread and butter pickles are perfect together. Sounds weird but it works. We also tasted the Frito Chili Pie and barbeque brisket sandwich on the visit and they were tasty as well. My dad got a beer on tap and when I asked what imports they had, the bartender said "we only have 3.2 beer here" I forgot we were in Oklahoma for a minute. Shiner Bock did the trick. They also have pool tables and games to keep the little ones happy. The Pick Em' Up game was a success for the 3 and 8 year olds in our party. It just took my daughter a minute to get used to the sawdust (not litter material?!? I don't even know what that is) on the floor. We had very friendly, talkative service, especially for how busy they always are. I guess they treat you the way you treat them, like most wait staff. ALWAYS busy, Monday night, Friday night, it doesn't matter. Some other reviews have said it's "not their kind of place". I guess if you don't like good food and even better people watching then it's not for you. It's just a little slice of life in small town Oklahoma, it's certainly not fine dining. You have to go in knowing what to expect.

Ok, I've heard a lot about Eischen's and after reading other reviews I decided to weigh in with my $.02. As an outsider I must say there is a lot to like about Eischen's. I love down to Earth places like Eischen's but I would not call it a hole in the wall as there is quite a lot of room plus a gift shop as well. The appearance of the place is no frills and the dining experience is no frills as well. Anytime someone serves you food on wax paper, you know you're into something good from a comfort level. Let me break it down first by starting with the chicken. Fresh, hot, juicy, very crunchy batter. It is very good fried chicken. Personally it is not the best I've had but it's very good. If I had to pinpoint what keeps it from being right up there with the best it would have to be the lack of seasoning in the batter that would put it over the top. Now I don't want anyone to think that it's bland (by no stretch), it just doesn't have that wow factor like a Willie Mae's or Jacques Imo's. It matches the latter two stroke for stroke until you get to the seasoning of the batter. That is what keeps it from being in the pack with "the best" that I've had. The fried okra is very good too. What makes me a "fried" expert? I live in New Orleans and we will fry anything, we would fry water if we could figure out how to batter it! Things can be hectic when it gets crowded for dinner and if you have kids or don't want to deal with a bit of a wait, then don't go during those peak days/hours (weekend nights at dinner time are the most chaotic). They do have video games and things to keep kids and big kids occupied but still, it can be a little discouraging when it's a packed house - and it is a packed house during those days/times. As a result, the staff can get overwhelemed and your dining experience can last longer than you anticipated. Being from New Orleans, when that happens, you rely on your bar to make things happy again. If you're not of the New Orleans mindset then you will probably not be happy if you experience the longer waits. It's definintely worth it to try them out, they have a solid product and if you time it so that you stay away from the peak days/hours it's quite a neat place to experience. Oh, and don't bring credit cards because they don't accept them!

Eischen's Bar is the perfect place to unwind and soak in the Oklahoma glory. The ride to the small town of Okarche yields abandoned buildings along the highway, cows standing in groups in the shade, and a cowboy couple riding their trusty steeds in the late sunlight. Yee haw! Eischens is the cherry on the Midwestern sundae, the creme de la creme of the red dirt state, the de facto standard of all bars Oklahoman. So obviously you're starving by the time you get all the way to Okarche. Yes, Okarche is far from anywhere. Nothing's going to fix your grumblin' better than fried okra, fried chicken, and a slew of sweet and salty pickles. Eischen's has heard your call, and they're happy to serve it up with a cold pitcher of beer. Or two, if you sit at my table. A full chicken is $11, fried okra $5.50, while the pickles, marinated onions, and sliced white bread are complimentary. If you order the way we order, dinner is $62 bucks. Hear me now: $62 - that's less than $15 per person with tip. 3 chickens, 2 okras, 2 pitchers of beer, 2 sodas, and a lot of napkins. The chicken is a steaming pile of deep fried glory, and the okra adds the perfect amount of "vegetable" to the thick crunchy batter (yes, I put vegetable in quotes because it's absolutely NOT healthy), and the pickles and onions give you just enough coating to keep the batter from burning through your stomach lining. The beer's cool and 3.0, so you can guzzle away without getting too wasted to enjoy the Eischen's ambiance.

Great Fried Chicken followed by a unique atmosphere. I'd have to say half the mystique was driving a ways out of OKC to the middle of no where (Okarche) to a poorly lit bar that resembled something I've only seen on TV. Inside it was crazy busy and we had to wait an hour for a table. The chicken, people and history of the bar was definitely worth the wait.

I was so excited to try this place when we moved closer to it. I had been hearing about it for 6 years and knew people who would drive hours to eat there. So underwhelmed. The drive there was nice. Then we get there. First, there is no direction that I noticed to seat yourself. I hate the awkward feeling of "Do we just sit? I don't know. Maybe someone will tell us". We just sat at the bar. The place had a really weird vibe. I don't know how to explain it, but it made me feel unwelcome. I was excited for the hubby to try the chicken, but I don't really care for meat on the bone. Then we saw the price. Like 10 dollars for some chicken? And we already paid Bricktown prices for some Bud Light? Since I didn't want to split it we both got nachos. And they were the same nachos my highschool concession stand sold at football games. Absolutely foul. We sort of picked at it and then paid and got outta there. I don't know, maybe the chicken is awesome, but that hardly makes up for the distance and vibe.

It's been two days since our visit to another triple D recommendation and my wife is still talking about the "best fried chicken, I've ever had." The menu consists of eight items and we were told by the waiter that you're getting chicken and okra. The chicken is crispy on the outside and moist inside...amazingly good. Despite being breaded and fried the okra maintained a fresh cut taste. A sign as you walk in warns of potential long waits for chicken...our advice, grab a beer and wait, you won't regret it.

Plain and simple, some of the best fried chicken ever. End of discussion. The place is perfect at what they do, and they don't try to BS you that they are something they aren't. If you want a fun atmosphere with ridiculously good chicken, you must try this joint. And be prepared to wait. It's worth it.

  • Zach F.

This is the best fried chicken I've ever had. Granted I'm a New Yorker so I wasn't reared on the stuff in quite the same way the southerners are, but it was pretty dang good. Slightly annoying you can only buy by the bird, not pieces, and although it wasn't too crazy when I was there I've been told by locals you can wait up to an hour for your chicken during the busy times.

Oh god this place is fantastic! A great Oklahoma experience. It's a must-do place for out of town friends. Jesshay is right--the drive from the city to rural OK is part of the experience. No plates or utensils, just the best fried chicken and okra i've ever had. Delish!

Its a very casual country bar that serves fried chicken, its not supposed to be fancy. Best fried chicken I have ever had, very simple recipe, and worth the drive.

Chicken is great, The place is fun. But, I've visited a million times and only this last time was the waiter/waitress friendly. You kinda get the this vibe as if they're saying "Hey we're Eischen's, if you don't like the service, so what, people are gonna come anyway". A good example of not caring what the customer wants: no credit cards. Oh, and watch for cops, they love to hit out-of-towners!

Some people complain about the drive out to Eischens from OKC, but it is worth it for the food and the overall experience. Read any of the other reviews, either good or bad, and most have mentioned the butcher paper and lack of utensils dining experience. The chicken comes out crisp, hot and very juicy and the seasonings are excellent. This is a must experience place, a historical landmark, it is the Oldest Bar in Oklahoma!

  • John S.

Best fried chicken west of OKC. Sure, Okarche is a pain to drive to, but it is well worth it for Eischen's chicken & okra. The restaraunt is HUGE with multiple rooms full of tables.

  • Jason V.

I have to say I've never been to a place like Eischen's! The chicken is exactly what you've heard it is! Juicy and delectable, with mouthwatering sides such as fried okra (a first for me) and sweet pickles to please any fried chicken lover. The atmosphere is one of kind, so don't be surprised if you end up seated at a picnic table and with wax paper as your table cloth/ plate. If you ever make it out to the Oklahoma City/Norman area, it is essential that you make the drive to Okarche and ultimately Eischen's!

I have made a couple trips here and my only complaint is that the don't take credit cards and the bathrooms are kinda dirty. Other than that I love it because the environment is unique, the beer is cold, and I could eat their fried chicken and onions until I almost couldn't move. This place is good.

    (4)
  • Tyrone S.

Great fried chicken. Every trip to OKC I will find a way to make it to Eischen's Bar. It is a hole in the wall bar that serves some of the best fried chicken in the state. Cash only. Funny thing, I never had a beer there.

  • Ginger D.

Not just a chicken joint, an experience. I don't even particularly like chicken on the bone, but this is one place that must be experienced. Menu is simple with few choices, but it works. Beer is always cold. So worth the drive.

If you could only eat fried chicken once in your life, this would be the place to do it... This place is the best in the world.. (no kidding).. and the okra is great too.. the bar is authentic and the alleged oldest bar in oklahoma. Either way, its worth the short drive from the city.

Off the beaten path, Eischen's boasts being Oklahoma's Oldest Bar. With a simple menu of just 8 items, they are able to keep their prices down. The menu and portions are designed for a family-sized appetite, so I suggest bringing friends! They do have a full bar as well. The fried chicken really is good, as is the fried okra. It is a whole fried chicken that comes with bread, sweet pickles, dill pickles, and onions for only $14! Wow! One way they keep those prices down is by only accepting cash, so don't forget to bring that with you! While I would like to suggest the Chili Cheese Nachos, which we often order to have a little variety, they are not really that good, and then your appetite is satisfied before you get any of that good chicken. With such a limited menu, you really need to go ready for fried chicken and fried chicken only. Instead enjoy Happy Hour drinks as your appetizer, and then when the chicken comes, enjoy another happy hour, as the chicken is often fresh out of the fryer, very hot, and needs time to cool. The menu truly is limited, and if your kids aren't into fried chicken you might want to get a babysitter for the night. Remember, there is no kids menu, and they don't even have tea or coffee, just beer, soft drinks, and coolers.

Until last month, I had never been to this Oklahoma staple, as Maggie F. oh so correctly called it. What better way to go than with an Okarche-ite, is that right?, so Kayla C. showed us exactly how to enjoy the oldest bar in Oklahoma. Do not go during the lunch rush was her first tip. We arrived about 2 pm and could still barely find a spot for our group of 5! Crazy, right? Next, a whole chicken will feed about 2-3 people, especially if you get some sides. We had 2 between the 5 of us and had some leftover. Granted we started with the chili cheese nachos and got okra too. The okra was excellent! I'm also a fan of the chili. It's cheaper to get a pitcher of beer and split it than to order individual beers. I love being able to order pitchers! Last, you have to try a skin sandwich. Yes, a skin sandwich. White bread, onion, pickle and the skin of the chicken. It sounds insane, but it's actually pretty good, if you can get over the fact that your eating a skin sandwich. So glad I finally came to Eischen's!

Here's the quick brief breakdown on Eischen's: Great chicken and great chili, but rude customers, terrible service, and dirty venue. Cash only. I cannot even begin to express how much that makes me rage at every restaurant I encounter it at. There is no excuse in the 21st century to not accept debit and credit cards. They simply don't want to pay any merchant fees associated with credit card processing (and their wait staff can't hide credit card tips from their income taxes like they can cash tips). Most restaurants factor in what percentage of customers will pay with a card and what their average fees on those transactions will be and include that cost in their menu prices. Perhaps that's just over the head of the owners here. Maybe they should take some of their fried chicken profits and take a few business courses at the local community college. There is a bank next door with an ATM if you don't have any cash on you. I imagine that Eischen's customers are 90% of that bank's fee revenues. There is no host. It's seat yourself. The problem with seating yourself in a super popular restaurant is that people aren't very good a queuing up for the next available table. So, people seat themselves ahead of other people, small parties steal large tables, and whatnot. You really just have to be rather assertive and when you see a table take it with complete disregard for anyone else waiting to be seated. If you don't, then you may just find you spend most of the day standing near the entrance being polite rather than eating and getting on with your life. Their fried chicken is indeed very good, but I find it no better than, for example, Evelyn's Soul Food in Tulsa. So, odds are you have a fried chicken joint in your city that is just as good as this place, so why waste the time driving to Okarche and putting up with all the negative aspects of Eischen's just to eat fried chicken? No iced tea or coffee. Soda is sold by the can and the cans are warm. So, you're pouring warm soda over ice which results in you drinking watered down soda and you're going to pay every time you want a refill. The only have a couple of domestic beers on draft. Considering this place is supposed to be a bar you would expect a better selection of beer. This is one of those restaurants that's been featured on a couple popular TV shows as supposedly having the best fried chicken. Consequently, they're always mobbed with out-of-towners stopping in to try the place. Since they're always mobbed they've stopped trying to provide good customer service. They've realized that no matter how lazy, rude, or incompetent they are that people keep coming. Consequently, service sucks and they have no motivation or incentive to improve it. I find it amusing that they're so proud of being the "oldest bar in Oklahoma." It isn't much of a bar and almost no one comes here to drink. Their selection of beer and alcohol is a joke. Their own website even admits they're more of a restaurant than a bar. So, I'm not sure why they keep trying to call themselves a bar. They should rename the place to Eischen's Chicken. The icing on the cake is the room of Eischen's souvenirs and other junk you can buy. They essentially want me to pay them for one of their logo items so I can do their advertising for them, but they won't pay to process my credit card. I think not. Overall, the place is a bit of a dive. The restrooms are disgusting, but somehow I knew they would be before I even went into them.

Good chicken enjoyed the add on items pickles, onion and bread. Been to many establishments like this in the north and northeast but rare to find a place like this in Oklahoma. They need to end the cash trade and modernize with debit and credit cards. Will be back for seconds.

Very nice atmosphere with lots of history to the bar. Was there around 2:30 in the afternoon on Tuesday and it was not crowded at all. I had the fried chicken and the okra. Both were cooked just the way I like it. Cash only and it is a little messy but it's fried chicken. You get complimentary onions, sliced bread and both dill and sweet pickles. I would recommend this place as a must check out. The lady who waited on me was very nice. Selections are minimal but very filling and delightful.

I paid a visit to this place since it wasn't too far from my hotel in OKC. It's also a Diners Drive ins and dives joint and I am committed to visiting as many of them as I can during my travels. The ride their was cool, I watched the sun set over the prairie unusual for an east coast boy. You arrive in Okarche and its like You went back in time. The place is old! Supposedly the first bar in Oklahoma or the oldest. The menus is simple. Chicken!!! That's pretty much it. Fried Ocra nachos chili Frito Pie. They make a roast beef sandwich but all I saw was fried chicken coming from the pass. You can only order a whole chicken. The place was packed for a Monday night. Chicken everywhere. It's all about the chicken here. Now it's okay chicken. I can't bash it but I have had better. Please add se spices to the flour! No that would take away the old-ness of the place and the entire town would get pissed off at the mafia looking wise guy with the black leather jacket. What's with the pickles and onions? 5 slices of white bread? It's all too weird.

I think this is the best fried chicken I've ever had! If you're up for the wait, I suggest coming here for dinner on a night you're craving some fried chicken legs and the best okra ever!!!

An Oklahoma staple. My family makes the drive when we can from OKC (about 30 - 45 minutes) for the best fried chicken in the state! Eischen's is just a classic, laid back bar. The menu is super simple - we always opt for a couple fried chickens and a couple sides of okra (and usually a chicken to go), but I think they also have a BBQ sandwich, nachos... can't really say what else. Because you go for the chicken of course. And plates? Who needs plates? All the food is served in those paper boat containers and you eat off wax paper. It's fabulous. And the chicken is great of course. Crispy breading, moist chicken inside, and it comes out hot and fresh. You can always see the steam escape when you tear it open - beautiful. The place gets pretty busy on weekends, so during the week is a good time to check it out to avoid the crowds. It's first come first serve self-seating, so on the busy nights you kind of just have to stand around and wait for a table. Also, the bar is a beer bar only so any age can sit there to eat. If you live in Oklahoma and you haven't been here, you're crazy. So get to Eischen's ASAP.

Eischen's makes the claim to be the oldest bar in Oklahoma. Whether that is the case or not, it certainly is a spectacle and a unique experience I won't soon forget. Now it's not the drinks but the fried chicken that keeps people driving to Okarche (about 30 miles from OKC). Upon arriving, one takes a seat in a booth or at a large table and finds a very limited menu that includes a whole fried chicken, fried okra, and nacho chips and cheese. The nacho chips and cheese were nothing special, quite akin to those you would experience at an high school football game concession stand. The fried okra was tasty and generous. The fried chicken was delivered to the table in a paper basket in individual pieces, and certainly enough for 2-3 people. I loved the brown crunchy crust, and the meat was juicy as well. I'm not sure if it's in the top 10 of fried chicken for me, but combined with the fun place and the adventure of getting there, it's some of the most memorable. I'm glad we made the drive.

Best chicken ever? No Decent chicken? Yes If I were in the mood for fried chicken, I'd just save myself a trip and hit up one of the local businesses here in OKC. Eischen's is decent but not at the top of my list. I'd only go if friends asked me. Their menu is so limited and there are hardly any sides. The okra is good and portions are generous. This place is not fancy by any means. It has a laid back atmosphere. You're here to eat greasy chicken! Sodas are sold by the can and it's cash only!

Best fried chicken and okra ever! We go to OK every year to see family and this place is a must-go each year. Small menu, cash only, service is hit and miss and you can expect a wait of you don't go real early. But it's all worth it!! Delicious!

My company decided I should visit small town Oklahoma, so I said hell yea...because it would involve spending some time in Okarche...which, in turn, would involve me spending some time in Eischen's. Before this last visit, it had been some time (maybe a decade or so) since I had eaten at Eischen's. Like many of you, I don't often find myself in Okarche...so Eischen's is a once every 10 years destination. ;) I went simple and just had the whole fried chicken, which is now $14. Eischen's has always had chicken that is a little crunchier than I like, but it doesn't detract from how tasty the chicken is. I tried valiantly to eat the entire bird, but failed, and resorted to taking the rest of it on my road trip back to the city. Eischen's is one of those throwback bars that you see in every single small town you've ever visted. It's not fancy at all, and you'll be sitting with people that (if you've always lived in the city) might be outside of the norm for the places you usually frequent. I enjoy the farmer/rancher/cattle baron types of people...so I felt right at home. With that being said, Eischen's is worth at least one visit, whether it be for the fried chicken...or if it's just to take in some small town nostalgia.

I started to believe the anti-hype. That the chicken wasn't all that great. That it certainly isn't worth driving to Okarche for it. Well--the original hype turned out to be more of the truth. I liked the chicken. I thought it was much better than say the Drum Room for example. The chicken was cooked really well. It was still juicy too. I would like a bit more crispy skin on it but that's okay. I will say this--Eischen's is very proud of being a dive bar--and that's a little annoying. It's an Oklahoma habit I think to be proud of being vaugely white trash. Its too Sarah Palin for me. They don't have iced tea for godsakes. You know how easy it is to make iced tea? Pretty fucking easy. They don't take credit cards either--but they have an ATM. If you really want to keep it real, make fools go to a bank somewhere in small town Oklahoma--that'll show em. Also they just have canned soda. Again I realize this is part of the mystique but it's a weird mystique to be generating. I suppose none of that is neither here nor there-but still. The chicken is good. The atmosphere is overrated. The drive might be worth it every few months. Fried chicken is something that someone needs to perfect in this area. This is good chicken. It's not outstanding chicken though.

  • Dannysha A.

The fried chicken is addictive! You must get a side of okra to go with it! Fair warning though, there is enough okra for 6 people in the order! Start off with some Frito pie or chili cheese nachos!! We love coming here! Bring cash!

Visiting my brother that recently moved outside OKC. He said I would love the fried chicken here. I'm a little partial to my grandma & mom's fried chicken, but I'm not one to say no to food, especially in a small town that is straight out of a movie. Most city folks may consider this a dive bar, but places like this exist all over rural America. I grew up in Wyo, so I felt immediately at home walking into this place. Sat at a table that was shared by several people, which I didn't find to be a big deal. They only have a few things on the menu. Ordered a whole fried chicken & chili (homemade according to waiter) nachos. The chicken was delicious & chili did taste homemade. It was a little annoying that they only accept cash. Because the town literally closes down at 5, you'll have to use the ATM in the bar, which I was not super excited about. Thankfully we pulled together enough cash to enjoy our food, which was reasonably priced. By the way, the fried chicken was better the next day!

Wonderful Fried Chicken!! Maybe the best. Other food is ok, service is very friendly, and fairly quick. The only issues I have are the cans of soda and the fact they don't take credit cards. It isn't 1986 anymore. But if you have cash and want great fried chicken in a divey atmosphere, this is the place to be! Edit: changing to 5 stars as I've been 3 times since my initial review and its better each time.

Oh eischen...you know how to please me. We drove 45+ minutes for their chicken and it was a good decision. The skin was perfectly fried, and the meat was perfectly juicy. You don't get plates, but could have some plastic silverwares. I love a place where the decor doesn't matter bc it is about the food. Cannot wait to go back!

  • Mitch H.

I'm a Gus' (Memphis) or Lucy's (Austin) type of guy, and Eischen's blew my mind. There is nothing fancy about the batter and the chicken. It's just traditional, excellently concocted fried chicken. I highly recommend this place and will now mention it as one of my favorite fried chicken places in the world. The wait was not a big deal- nothing two pitchers of Coors couldn't cure. Bring cash.

Chicken is not as good as it was in the past. Has gone up every year for the last 5 years. Called ahead for a whole chicken, was told 20 min. We were there 5 mins late and they made us wait another 20 min for our meal. The place had about 10 people in the place at 2:30pm on a Wednesday! When I asked the gentleman with Staff on his blue shirt, he gave an attitude and made some BS excuse! We drove 30 min to get there. Never again we are done! Won't ever be back. Save you gas and time!

It really is worth the drive to this historic "oldest bar in Oklahoma". The fired chicken is some of the best you will ever experience and the history is fascinating. Try it out for a fun, casual evening with friends.

  • Tony P.

Y'all are crazy if you don't think this is SOME OF the best fried chicken you've EVER had at any restaurant anywhere, and is arguably the best fried chicken in the state of Oklahoma. I've eaten fried-chicken all over Oklahoma/Texas/The South, and it's up there with the very best (Yardbirds - Miami, FL, Max's Wine Dive - Texas, Babe's - Texas, Willie Mae's Scotch House - New Orleans, LA, etc.). Not to mention the place is cool and has some history to it... The actual bar is the oldest is Oklahoma. It was hand carved in Spain in the 1800's and some how made it to California, where it eventually ended up at Eischen's.

Ever since Clark's Diner in Jacksonville, Ohio closed this place has become the undisputed champion of fried chicken....in the world......so far as I've known. I will update if anything changes but I'm pretty much the top authority on fried chicken so my word is pretty much the rule. So Eischen's is a dark, dirty, old ass bar. They claim to be the oldest in Oklahoma. I can't confirm the accuracy of that but it's definitely been at least 100 years since the floor was swept. I love it. Fried chicken, fried okra done great. The bread sucks to eat but makes a great napkin. I've never had the chili but I bet it's good too but who would ever get chili over fried chicken when it's that good? It's also nice to be in a bar that doesn't have 50 tv screens all over the place like I give a shit about football.

I've always heard about Eishen's chicken but had never had the chance to experience it -- well NOW I HAVE - What a cool place! The chicken is really good, okra is amazing and the atmosphere is so cool. There are not enough places like this anymore. History, families, cool old memorabilia, good food, loved that there wasn't silverware or plates. GREAT PEOPLE. I love cold chicken so I brought some home to eat when it was cold - EVEN BETTER! Totally worth the drive!

This place makes KFC look like a 5 star establishment! It was ok, but it's so far away from civilization, and left me feeling jipped! But hey, if you like greasy, otherwise flavorless fried chicken, fried okra, and white wonder bread straight out of the bag...then this is the place to go! P.S. Don't forget to bring cash! P.S.S. I hope you're not planning on drinking tap water, cause my wife who was pregnant at the time was told it was not safe to drink!

Dear Santa, I've been such a good girl, I promise!! All I want for christmas is my two front teeth, a baby doll, unicorn tears, and more Eischen's fried chicken. :) This was by far the best fried chicken I have had outside of my granny's kitchen. Only this chicken was better, because it wasn't half burnt because she was half tipsy and it didn't have the aroma of Marlboro Reds. Here's the skinny... you go in, find ya an empty table and get settled in. The service is home-town'y and sweet and you're gonna be well taken care of. Beers are nearly frozen cold and taste amazing after the 40 or so minute drive from OKC. Okay, so the chicken... it comes to the table hot and crispy and perfect. The only side option is fried okra and that's fine by me, it was perfection. Also pickles (sweet and dill), a bunch of onions, and white bread come with it. I can't remember a better dinner with better company in a better place in a long time. It was so great, Eischen's will from now on always be somewhere special to me.

They have some of the best chicken I've ever had the menu is small under 10 items but it is very good it comes as a whole chicken with 2 types of pickels, onions, & bread all for only $14 !

No nonsense. No special requests. You either get it or you don't. We've been coming to Eischen's for 30 years. Not much has changed. But there's a darn good reason. It works. Cash only, no frills, no worries, seat yourself, leave your assumptions in the car. $14 for a whole, succulent, perfectly seasoned, moist, crispy fried chicken is not expensive. The chickens are special. Smaller, more tender birds compared to the usual, over-grown fryer you'll find at the mega-mart. We've never had anything but the best. It has always been the same. Perfect. Forget the nachos and other silliness. It's just there for the picky kids and people who need something to tide them over. Fried okra is pretty good, but really just filler. The bread, pickles, and vinegared-onions are great for cutting the fried stuff. Here's a trick: place a slice of bread under your piece of chicken while it cools. The juices and fat will drip into the bread. Yumm! It gets crowded, no doubt about it. The wait for chicken can be 2 hours during peak service times. If you aren't willing to wait, we'll be more than happy to fill your seats and enjoy every moment. Be ready to order when you sit down. You've had plenty of time to think about what you want while you're waiting for a seat. The menu isn't going to change, so you really don't have any decisions to make. Water, Soda, or Beer. How many chickens? It's just that simple. Over complicating things just isn't Eischen's.

I've always loved Eishcen's, perhaps so much that I'm willing to overlook a few things in exchange for such a lovely little slice of Americana - a fun road trip, a cool little town, and such an American meal. Fried chicken, fried okra, white bread, pickles and onions, and a cold, delicious 3.2 beer. What more could you ask for in a roadside dive? I'm about to tell ya! I would happily add a fifth star if they took credit cards. The fact that they don't take cards doesn't add to its charm, trust me. I'd also absolutely love it if they would institute a little bit better system for seating. Locals and regulars seem to have no problem hauling ass right past a family of four with a few grandparents in tow to make their way to vulture over a table not quite finished with their supper. Couldn't some cute local gal make a few extra bucks as a hostess? Oh well, you go for the chicken, not the friendly service! I'll still be back as long as my arteries will allow it.

Return visit for a birthday lunch. We arrived at around noon and plopped ourselves on an empty bench. A few kids that looked like they should be in school were sitting close by. The place wasn't very crowded. It was a Monday. Go figure! Ordered the usual- chicken, okra, pickles and onions, bread.... Still don't like the bread BUT I have to say the chicken and okra tasted 10x's better. We ordered a whole chicken to go! Warmed it up in the oven at home- didn't taste as good, but still edible! I think the key to getting the best quality here is to come on a not so busy day and time.

Personally, I have no idea how people could say this chicken is dry and tasteless. I've been twice and both times it has been very fresh, juicy and seasoned perfectly. Also, this is a dive bar. In a small town. In Oklahoma. It's going to take a minute to get there. People might stare at you. Again, it's a BAR. Don't we all look at people in bars? However, I've never noticed the staring that has been referenced, I guess I was too busy enjoying myself and the chicken. This place is very simple. Soda is served in a can. Really your only other choice of food is chili. Service is iffy (I think because they are always so busy). But it's a great destination if you live in the area. It can get super busy at lunch time, so plan ahead. And come hungry, you get a LOT of food! Also in the 'planning ahead' tips, they do not take credit cards, so bring cash!

Food here is great! The chicken is pretty much what everyone raves about. Just really great fried chicken. No frills or thrills. Eat with your hands. There are a few other sides, but the focus is chicken. We took home an extra order of fried chicken and it was still delicious and not dried out the next day after reheating in the microwave!! I took off a star fro two things: bathrooms (small and didn't seem very clean), and does not accept credit cards.

I took my family on Saturday afternoon because they had never been. We all loved the chicken and okra. Our waitress did a great job and we never had to ask for anything. Then, we go to check out in another and waited. Finally we were approached by a women who asked us where we had been sitting. We explained we had been sitting in the back. She becomes very rude with our group and tells us, you cannot be rang up here. Go back to that room. Everyone in my group looked at each other in disbelief. We were shocked at how rude she was. So, the place is packed, we work our way back to the other room/register and stand there. No one comes. People are waiting. So, I see the same lady again and ask her if she can ring us up. Rudely, she says, stand there, someone will be right there. Keep in mind, the person that I have approached twice now, is taking out garbage. I look back, the individual's that should be ringing people up, are taking orders. To sum this up, everything was good until dealing with checking out and the women who was so rude. I asked before I left who she is and discovered she is an owner. That's just sad! Customer service goes a long way. Get some!

Truly great fried chicken. It's not the end-all-be-all of fried chicken, but it is a must visit if you live around OKC.

Fried okra! Sooo good. Coming from CA we don't eat a lot of it and that's a shame. The chicken was on point and the pickles where great. The atmosphere is totally kickback, the waitress was sweet and knew her stuff. She walks up and saids "your getting 3 chickens and okra" we replied yes ma'am and got to eating! If your in the great state of Oklahoma you need to stop here.

Great fried chicken! They do a whole chicken per order, so two people can easily share an order. Same with the fried okra, huge portion! It's a bar that has food, so not a big menu. Most people were ordering the fried chicken, didn't see any sandwiches ordered. Also saw several people order nachos. CASH ONLY! Came in on a Sat at noon and ate at the bar, and the service was very attentive. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for fried chicken!

In short: If you're ever in Oklahoma City and have a car, drive out half an hour to Okarche for this fried chicken. When I was visiting OKC, I asked my friend to take me to a very "Oklahoman" restaurant. A trip to Eischen's was the result, and I had a great time experiencing this food landmark. For under $20, you can get a whole chicken, fried and served to you in a paper tray, along with a heap of pickles and white toast (what do you do with the white toast? Who the heck knows, but for some reason it came with the chicken!). If you think your arteries need a bit more of a challenge, you could always get the fried okra, a heap of nachos, or beer (they're all about efficiency here, so only bottled options). I probably could've done without the other food choices, but the chicken alone was worth the trip. Cool experience to eat in the (self-proclaimed) oldest bar in Oklahoma.

Saw this place on Triple D thought why not we routinely try out places of Triple D what a long drive of a mistake if this the best chicken in the US I'm missing something. Chicken here wouldn't crack my top 50

I imagine visiting Eichen's on a Friday or Saturday may be a rough experience. But, my visit on a Thursday evening was a blast! I went with native Oklahomans who love the place and I agree with them. Fried chicken and cold beer. No mashed potatoes, green beans, salads, etc. FRIED CHICKEN! And it was awesome!

Best fried chicken, but suffers inconsistency. I've only gone Wednesday and Friday nights because it's quite a drive to get there. I've noticed the chickens are juicier and consistently better on Friday nights. Their best deal is the whole fried chicken for $14, I would get that. Make sure to bring cash because they don't take card. Beware of sawdust and dead crickets!!!

If you're looking for 5-star dining and a high-end waitstaff, look elsewhere. That's not what Eischen's is about. Instead, what you'll find is rural-style dining at it's best; Sawdust on the floors, canned drinks, long cookout-style tables, and country charm, along with the best fried chicken and okra around, of course. Succulent doesn't even begin to describe this chicken. The many times that we've been, the chicken's never been "off." Billed as the oldest bar in Oklahoma, this place has history and charm, so get yourself to Okarche and dig in. It's a family favorite for us!

Surprised to see number of 2 and 3 star ratings on YELP for Eishen's Bar in beautiful downtown Okarche! It is one of those places that is best defined as "it is what it is", and to me that is a local watering hole filled with both OU and OSU fans (living in harmony, I might add) that just happens to make THE VERY BEST darned fried chicken I have ever eaten.....better than Babes in DFW....there, I said it! Sacrilegious, I know....even now my mouth is watering as I think of a hot serving of Eishen's fried chicken on a cold rainy day like today.....too bad Okarche is a half a tank of gas from Keller...but maybe!!!!! The concept is solid....a few menu items, lots of places to sit, and you come to Eishens to eat fried chicken and fried okra off of paper spread out on well-worn folding tables...and drink copious amounts of cold domestic beer....what could be more American?!?!?! Simple concept....great place.....AWESOME fried chicken....give it a try! And take a designated driver and lots of cash....it is a jaunt from OKC! GO POKES!!!!

Good chicken, not the best I've ever had. Crunchy and crispy, and especially greasy. I went through 8 cheap o napkins. Either less grease, or better napkins please! Known as the oldest bar in Oklahoma, it certainly has enough dirt to show for it. I would probably stop in if I was in the area, but I wouldn't make it my final destination.

This is 40 minutes from OKC. Take outs should be called in because there is a wait and the patrons will stare a hole in you. According to their website, this current bldg they are in was built in 1993, the original bldg had burned down. About the chicken, it was just ok. Kind of bland. Nice golden color to it and juicy and really greasy. I've had better at other places. Not really worth the 40 minute drive. But it does start to taste a little better when it sits for awhile (since you can't eat the whole chicken at once). The waitstaff could be a little more attentive. They kind of run around handling money and fixing food at the same time w/out washing their hands. Didn't really like the drive out there. Alot of barren land in between and the wind picks up like crazy and the embankments pretty steep, so be careful in your drive.

I live in Mustang,so it's not a short drive. I used to love Eischen's,until their Chicken went up to 16 dollars and got significantly "smaller". Their nachos are probably the best thing on the menu. The seating is terrible,so if you're planning on going you need to get there pretty early. Other than that it's okay.

People who claim not to like the world famous Eischen's need to get their head examined. Here is a list of things NOT to complain about --sawdust on the floor. This is part of the experience --the fried chicken. This is the best part about the place. Never have I had such juicy, flavorful, crisp, melt in your mouth chicken as I did here. Delicious. --the fact they only take cash. Hey, this is the oldest bar in Oklahoma. They've been around since the 1880's. Give them a chance to catch up. --the lack of a hostess. Yes, you have to seat yourself and therefore find an open table or booth. Quit crying. --the lack of plates and silverware. You have to eat off butcher paper. If you have to have plates and silverware then why are you eating here in the first place? --the crappy beer selection. Okay, I give you this one. I was happy to find upon arrival that they had more than just Coors Light (which is what I was originally told was all that they had) on draft because you can also get, uh, Bud Light. A tiny step up. When ordering your food don't forget the fried okra which is amazing. Also, your dinner comes with a large helping of sliced raw onions, white bread, and sweet and dill pickles. And the price: cheap!! Our table of 8 people had several pitchers of beer, several whole chickens, a couple of orders of okra, a couple of chili cheese nacho appetizer orders and the total tab was $75.

    1) This is a BAR.A semi-dive BAR 2) Bar's have limited menu's 3) If you get the above you're good to go. Sit your a$$'s down, have a beer and order some stuff to eat. If you need another beer, go to the bar. Very simple. Is the food the best you've ever had? No. Is the beer cold? Yes. Do they offer more than nuts and popcorn? Hell yes!

I had heard rumor that Eischen's "fried chicken was as good as mom's fried chicken". NOT TRUE. Mom's chicken was Pan Fried NOT deep fried! You would think that the fried chicken that originated at this establishment many years ago would same. (The legend that is told is that this chicken is the same recipe as in the old days. ) This recipe would have remained a source of pride with the owners just as all of the people in the area at the turn of the twentieth century in taking pride with their original recipes for pan fried chicken did. Deep frying chicken is a mid to late twentieth century process that was used to create speed of cooking instead of having pride in quality of the food. That discovery was not my first disappointment with this establishment. When we arrived we parked in the only "handicapped" parking space, which was a half block from the entrance, not in front to make it more ADA compliant. As we approached the door we noticed several cars of other customers taking up TWO parking spaces. Entering the building the sidewalk at the doorway was filthy with bird feces, which will most likely be tracked into the building. The next thing I noticed was a sign - not very prominent - that stated only cash or checks were accepted, no cards, along with a sign to "seat yourself". I felt as if I was in another country. There was only one clean place to sit, a table by the door, which is not where we would be able to enjoy our meal. The server told me we could have the booth towards the middle of the room across from the bar when she was finished cleaning it. Just as soon as she was finished cleaning the booth, and before we could walk to it, a group of hunters, dressed in camo gear promptly took the booth. She then told us that we could have another booth in an adjacent dining area. I thought that the chicken better be very good after going through all of this. As we walked to the booth I noticed that the floor was very slippery, both feet and my walking stick were sliding with each step I took; as I looked down I saw that there is sawdust scattered on the asphalt tile squares of the floor. Use of this product on that type of flooring is a safety hazard, most places that use "debris" on the floor, such as sawdust and peanut shells, do so on wood or concrete flooring. We finally arrived at our booth, the table top is wet. We dried it with paper napkins, ourselves. Our order was placed and I am still thinking something has to change this experience. When we ordered the chicken, the server assumed we also wanted okra, but we told her we did not. While we were waiting we decided to check Yelp reviews on this place and we found good experiences shared; however, most not great. We finally received our food....and behold, the delivery person brought okra. We told her we did not order it but she told us the order said okra, but that she would take it off of the bill. We were really on a roll. When we began to eat our food the first thing I noticed was that the chicken is not home pan fried, but deep fried. The sweet pickles were great, finally something good to post! The chicken could have been cooked a bit longer and had more meat on it with more seasoning on the meat. Finally, when the server brought the check the bill was $14.50, we gave her a $20 bill, she brought $6 change, a one and a five, in most cases the change would have been correct or the chsnge would have been six ones. I was going to tip her only 15% instead of my usual 20% . If she had brought the correct change she would have had a more substantial tip; I left the one. Over all I would give this establishment a minus 3 star rating, but that selection is not included in the rating choices. It was a one time experience for me! AND a waste of time!

***MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CASH ON HAND*** They do not accept plastic. Ok, now on with the review. I am a big fan of fried chicken, which this place is known for. Eischen's Bar is supposedly the best place to get fried chicken in Oklahoma. Eischen's Bar is located in a small town called Okarche which is about 30 minutes away from Oklahoma City. Eischen's Bar has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network. The atmosphere has a dark "hole in the wall" look to it. Looking at the menu they only have 8 items total. The majority of the items listed on the menu were more like bar style food like nachos, fritos chili pie, fried okra and etc. So, I got the fried chicken, obviously. Servicewise there was only one waitress, one food server and a bartender working. Going at the time that we did which was around noon, we had hit the lunch rush hour. So service was not given at a timely manner. Receiving our food took nearly 45 minutes. The fried chicken overall was decent. To say its the best chicken in Oklahoma City is probably going a little too far. I will say though that the fried chicken came out hot, fresh, and juicy. The skin was so crisp, but, the taste of it was just a little too plain for my tastebuds. Along with the fried chicken they give you complimentary sides of bread, onions, and two types of dill pickle chips (The sweet and spicy pickle chips were delicious.) A-OK experience overall. This is definitely something that you could make a little Sunday trip out of.

Best chicken ever. Seriously every bite gets better and better. Just ate at Gus's chicken in Memphis Tenn and I don't think it even touches Eishen's. The only reason this place doesn't get five stars is the wait staff. Most of the times I have been there they seem like they could care less. As well they don't take credit cards. Nice little ATM racket for the bank around the corner to charge some fees. Seriously this is all about the chicken. To good to be true. This will be the best fried chicken you will ever have at a restaurant, unless your mama's last name is Eischen. Off the beaten path but well worth the drive. I also recommend the chili cheese nachos and the okra. I am not one for restaurant chili usually. This chili is an exception. The next time you think chicken you should think Okarche and Eischen's.

Go in. They'll order fried chicken, fried okra and 2 beers for you on sight. Proceed to sit down, enjoy some effing amazing fried chicken. Some advice: don't flaunt you're from the city and definitely don't ask if cowboys get into fights there. They don't, but they'll laugh at you if you ask them that.
