Greek House Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

In terms of serving its purpose, serving authentic gyros, this restaurant is probably the best in Norman. It is a small establishment on Jenkins Avenue, just north of Boyd Street, in easternmost Campus Corner, near the Sarkeys Energy Building. Parking is limited on site but can be found elsewhere nearby. The business is clearly family run: children, their parents, and grandma are all hard at work in the kitchen, which opens up to the seating area. An important note is that only cash is accepted. The menu is fairly limited: it's a gyros stand. But, the gyros that is served is of very high quality and prepared very well. The tzatziki sauce is homemade and delicious. Fresh-cut fries are served with with gyros. Generous portions of everything are served. Highly recommended.

Best gyro in the Oklahoma City area, hands down! The menu is simple, but the food is positively addictive. I think they put crack in the gyros! When I lived in Norman I sometimes ate here twice a week!

This place should be a landmark for Norman, Oklahoma. It's a tiny one room, family-owned joint that's easy to miss unless you know where to look. When you enter the place you are immediately enveloped in a deliciously fragrant cloud emanating from the three giant doner kebabs behind the counter where they carve off slices of perfectly roasted meat to order. If you choose to sit at one of the tightly squeezed tables inside the restaurant be prepared to carry that smell with you until your next laundry day. A popular trick with poor college students is to order the child's plate with extra pita. This manages to be a generous portion of meat, pita, skinny and delicious fries, and a bit of Greek salad on the side with oil and vinegar and feta cheese. I liked to order mine with extra tzatziki sauce (I love the refreshing tangy yogurt and cool cucumber). Their tzatziki is obviously homemade and the owners are justifiably stingy with it as people are always begging for more. A few qualms I have with the place: there is never enough parking around the restaurant, the counter where you order is right by the door which often leads to pile-ups as hungry university kids line up to get their Greek food fix. And worst of all the family is prone to taking long summer vacations, sometimes without any warning! Might be worthwhile to call ahead to make sure they're open.

Still as awesome as ever, even under new ownership. And good god, what a mountain of meat!!

i was born and raised in norman and attended college at the university of oklahoma and still live on campus to this day. a lot of restaurants have come and gone, but the greek house remains. a favorite on gamedays or for a weeknight dinner, you can't go wrong. the greel plate with fries is the best. fries are cooked in the greese from the lamb meet. taziki sauce is excellent on everything. the same husband and wife team has run the place as long as i can remember and they are two of the sweetest folks around town, always there to greet you with a smile. one of my favorite parts is that you come out of the place smelling like it. this may bother some ppl, but i love it!

Could Greek food get any better? DOUBT IT! I've been going to this place since I was little. It's delicious and fresh. The owners/ operators are the original family that opened it and are from Greece. I know it is their wish to sell their business and head back 'home' - it'll be a real loss for Norman. You'll never want another kind of gyro after this! The place itself is simple, crowded, and a little run down but it is an icon in the just off campus corner experience.

I went for a girls afternoon with two of my best friends. It was my first time and one of my friend's first time, and the other is a frequentor of this place. I was beyond impressed! The aroma seized me by the stomach before I even made it INTO the building. The service is friendly and with a smile, the food delicious and abundant. I can't think of a single thing negative to say about the place other than the floor needed a good mop. Honestly though, the floor is the last thing on my mind. The food areas were clean and organized, the service was fast, and I just had my remaining leftovers today get this: honestly just as good or maybe even better than the first day!!! I'm so impressed that I can't WAIT to get a chance to drag my fiance to go too!!!

One of my favorite restaurants on campus corner! The food is cooked right in front of you and the lambs are constantly spinning to give it a good light crisp on the outside, but warm tender inside. Given that it is a bit on the greasy side as far as food goes, but the food is great for the occasional Greek cravings. The Plate has alot of lamb on it, with a good amount of pita, a good amount of fries, and a greek salad on the side. Honestly, the prices here are great for the amount of food you get. Sometimes, me and my mom will specifically stop by here just to get their fries, because its fresh and crispy, but a ton of it for a fraction of the price of like McDonalds.

Pros: 1. Tasty food 2. Generous servings 3. Fast service 4. Cheap Cons: 1. Greasy/fatty 2. Cash only 3.Do you know what's in the mystery meat?? If you care about the answer you should probably stay away from this place. Gyro, a highly processed meat concoction (think SPAM), is definitely not for someone who's into healthy eating. I hardly go here anymore. 3. Limited sitting space. That said, dine-in is NOT recommended if you've an important meeting or date later in the day. Because the place is small with no adequate ventilation, the "gyro aroma" permeates the whole place. Spend just a few minutes inside and you'll smell like gyro for the rest of the day!! So, if you gotta have gyro that day, bring some spare cloths or a Fabreeze! ;)

Nasty dive with disgusting food - do NOT enter! Likes: Ridiculously large portions, and the gyros are stomachable. The meat is okay, and the price is good. Dislikes: It's a nasty little dive, and it's greasy and unclean in general. I'm a dive lover, but this place is over the top on disgusting. As a note, if you get your order to go, they put the fries on the bottom, and they get soaked by meat juice until they are soggy and inedible. There's really nothing special about this place, and I don't understand why so many people are nuts about it. I think if it weren't on campus corner, it probably wouldn't get enough business to survive. Plus, they're cash only, which is always annoying for me. There are very few competing Mediterranean places in the area, and it's not a cuisine that is common in Oklahoma. I believe that this fact and the Campus Corner locale are the only reasons that this place enjoys any popularity whatsoever.

An awesome little hole in the wall place. Grandma makes my gyros every time I go there. They are such a cute family. The prices recently went up, but even now they are more than affordable. An entire meal is $5-7 depending on if you get a drink and what you get. All their meals are more than enough to fill you up...even the child's plate! Parking is a pain in the butt, but it's worth it. The food tastes great (slightly greasy, but it's gyros...what do you expect?). Oh and FYI - they don't take credit cards, but I always have checks on me so that isn't an issue. I would recommend to anyone and all!

We"ve been going to the Greek House ever since it opened, nearly 30 years ago. The story at that time was that the owner's children were attending the University of Oklahoma school of engineering, and they wanted to be close. Thirty years later, they are still just a block away from the school of engineering, dishing up amazing gyros. The owner has a little less hair, and I would swear they knife he uses to shave the gyros is much thinner than it used to be. We no longer live in Norman, but visit every time we come to town. As far as I can see, the only thing that has changed since day one is that they now have four rotisseries for the gyros to handle the demand. This is the standard by which I judge all gyros, and few stack up. I've had gyros (usually called donner kebob outside the US) in Canada, England, Australia, and even Greece, and this is still the best! What an amazing find in the heart of Oklahoma! It is a true hole in the wall, with no real sign. The walls are hung with pictures of Greece, and an incredilbe rubber tree is nailed up over the windows. If the crowds are too much for you, there is always take out. The prices are incredible, too, probably becasue they have a limited menu - just gyros plates, sandwiches and greek salad. A plate is less than $8, drinks are $0.85, and beers are an amazing $1.90.

There are several pros and cons to the Greek house. Pros- price, service, family feel, and certainly an experience. Cons- Fries so greasy you not only taste them, you feel them in your heart and skin. Also, though you get a ton of gyro meat, you only get four very small pieces of pita bread. Finally, if you take it to go, expect your salad, cheese and all, to be dead once you arrive at home. I'm glad I tried this place, but doubt that I'll be going back.

This is literally my boyfriend's favorite restaurant in the country (and it's probably my top 5 too) and we live in Los Angeles. You must understand the following: BEST GYROS EVER! And by that I mean, most flavorful, always fresh-made to order, and the portion...oh the portions. No exageration, you literally have to eat about 10 pieces of the meat with a fork before you can even close it enough to eat it. Keep in mind most places only put about 10 strips in total, then mess em up with a bunch of lettuce and crap. At only about 6 bucks per gyro, a couple could split it for a meal and still be pretty full. We dont share though, because visiting from L.A., we are only here once or twice a year so we fill up! Tip: fries are monster size per serving too, totally shareable.

  • Sheiva J.

WOW! I first came here about 7 years ago, then again this December. HANDS DOWN, BEST GYROS IVE EVER HAD. The place isnt the nicest, but who cares-clearly the customers are there for the food and not anything else! Huge portions, great prices, and a small menu-which means whatever you order is gonna be good. I like the fact that this place is family owned and run. Although it is located on a college campus, most of the restaurant was filled with families, as opposed to college students. I will def be back the next time im in Norman.

  • Stacey B.

The food here is awesome. It is also a good price and huge portions. I get a child's plate most of the time when I come here. The gyro meat is amazing. I love the greek salad and the goat cheese as well. I wrap it up in a piece of pita with the Tzatziki Sauce. Yum! It is a very hole-in-the-wall place with great food.

  • Jamie S.

You have not had a gyro until you have had one here. This place is the real deal.It gets so busy sometimes that the line goes out the door, so you know it has to be AMAZING. The cute little Greek couple that opened this restaurant set it up for success. You get a great amount of real greek food for cheap. I have been a patron of Greek House since I was a toddler, and will continue to be one for a verrrryyy long time.

  • Danesh I.

If you walk in here expecting something fancy, turn around and walk out. If you're looking for the best gyro this side of Athens (Greece not Georgia or Ohio), you're in the right place. $6.10 for the best gyro I've ever had anywhere in the "US and A." Imported beers at less than $2? This place is awesome. Forget the ambiance, give me the best damn gyro my money can buy! Greek House is the sh*t: Don't think. JUST GO.

    (5)
  • Marlon C.

Generic "Greek" food (read: gyros like every other gyros place). Restaurant is cluttered and hot. Also, they charge for drink refills... how cheesy.

  • Matthew Z.

4/5 because they don't accept debit cards. That being said, this place is amazing.

I am a grown woman with hefty appetite but if i cannot finish a child's plate, i don't think most women can. I have seen plenty of men ordered child's plate because they are very generous with their portion. The fries are always crunchy, lettuce salad with a piece of calamata, tomatoe and feta cheese on the side. word of advice: cash only. Do not wear leather or thick wool there, you will need to air it out for a long time if you do because the don't have good ventilation in there. In the summer months, the restaurant can keep the interior temperature around 80 degree, so we always go early in the morning and frequent more in winter months. the restaurant open at 1030 am, get there early so the inside is still cool and doesn't have too strong smell. Also get there early during game days or lunch hour because it can get really busy. the best thing yet have your order to go, walk across the streeet to OU campus and enjoy your food there, there are plenty of bench sitting, and the memorial is very close by.

  • Natasha M.

I've been eating here since I was at Norman High School. Huge plate of food for very little money. Very tasty. Always busy! Be prepared to wait for a place to sit if it is during regular lunch hours; it is worth it, though!

The quintessential hole in the wall diner, except Greek and AWESOME!!! Angelos and Helen Dimas have been in business for the last 29 years and have established a local institution, providing delicious gyros, (gyro grease) fries and balaclavas to connoisseurs, as well as employment for comely co-eds... There are actually two (maybe three) rooms as they seem to have access to the main dining room as well as the storage in the back where supplies are stored and separated by a curtain. The tables are packed closely together and enhances the homey atmosphere. As mentioned in the earlier review, eau de gyro permeates the air when you enter and immediately got me drooling. The menu is gyro-based, with the regular plate, child's plate, and the sandwich. Food and value/prices are terrific. The eye candy that parade through and work there just makes it that much better! This and Van's are my two must visit restaurants whenever in Norman. Note it's cash or check only, Monday through Saturday, close around 8 pm.

  • Renee C.

I just went here for the first time this week and The Greek House lives up to it's repuation of being great. Parking is pretty tight, but worth the effort to get there. When you enter, you place your order and either wait for your food, or take a seat at one of their small tables. I ordered the child's plates, per a friend's recommendation. It was more than enough food, and you couldn't ask for a better price. When I wanted more sauce, they happily provided it to me. The only thing that I have been warned about is that in the summer, this place gets really hot inside. So, during those months, I plan on ordering takeout.

Oh Greek House, you continue to be the ONE Greek restaurant I base all my opinions about other Greek restaurants on. The ambiance of the restaurant is nothing special at all (one room, smells like roasting meat, etc) but it's MORE than made up for by the food. It's a family owned local place, and boy do they know how to cook a good gyro (and everyone knows it, it's very popular!) I haven't ever had a better one (though a particular Chicago southside joint rivals them a bit). I like that they don't load up the gyro with all kinds of vegetables or anything unles you ask them to. A lot of places will do that and then don't give you as much meat because of it! This place LOADS that sandwich, so much so that my mom and I will sometimes order one sandwich & a piece of pita so we can split it into two sandwiches at home! Insider tip, ha. I haven't been back in awhile, but hopefully someday on one of my Oklahoma visits I'll get the chance!

  • Sarah C.

I really want to like this place. I really do. Each time I've gone I've loved the pita and the sauce. But I will be honest that whatever's going on with that meat has made my stomach try to rip its way out of my body a few hours later anytime I've gone. Their fries are good as long as you eat them right then. And, as a plus the onions and lettuce have always been really fresh. If you're looking for a ton of food for not a ton of money this is a pretty good buy. I think it would last me for three meals. It's tasty, but watch our for your stomach.

  • Chris A.

I really try not to give 5 stars but the Greek House deserves it. The place is an ou campus institution. I had not been been here in years but went back today and it was like nothing had changed. The owners left and moved away but the new people have kept the tradition alive. They really deserve a bigger space and more parking but it's not that big a deal once you start to eat. The food is amazing. The portions are beyond generous. There is not much to say that hasn't been said already.

    (5)
  • K J.

I'm not a fan of lamb, but everyone I know says it is cooked perfectly here. However, I gave Greek House 5 stars because they have the 2nd best French fries in the world next to McDonald's! They update their menu to keep it current and have added many new items in the last 5 years. The staff is always friendly unless they are super busy.

  • Jc W.

Everytime I am in Norman I make a point to have cash on me so I can stop by and get the Gyro Plate. It is enough food to feed me for 2 days! Great eating.

  • Nikki H.

Me and my family love going to the Greek House. The food is amazing and the staff is very polite and friendly. If you want Gyros definitely come here!!!

    (5)
  • Gio C.

Holy crap it's been years since I've been here. I love it's atmosphere and how affordable this place is. Obviously no healthy food unless you go with salad which is just a lettuce.

    (5)
  • Katherine B.

Gyros in OKC just don't get better than this. This place oozes it's divey ambiance all over you, especially if it's a hot summer day as I think it can easily reach the 90s inside this little restaurant. Bring cash and be prepared to take some home with you. The portions are almost insanely large, my husband and I often split a single gyro order with an extra pita or two on the side. Parking can be problematic, so be prepared to hunt for a spot and possibly walk a ways. If it's a game day, just forget about it as Greek House is practically on OU's campus. You'll leave smelling of delicious gyro meat, but that's not such a bad thing in my book!

    (5)
  • Meghan P.

Literally the best Gyros you can get, probably in the USA. The BEST service I've ever experienced and the friendliest people ever. I feel like I'm in their house when I'm there. Gee Wizz, I'd eat there daily if I could. I love you guys!

  • Marsha E.

Everyone has already said what needs to be said about this place...simply awesome. After graduating 20+ years ago and returning it is still as awesome as always. Good cheap Greek food that feels your tummy without draining your pocket. As always I got the child's plate and it was just as good as I remember!

  • Joy M.

You go to Greek House if: 1. Your day was filled with a lot of bad decisions and you want to end your day on a high note 2. You want something quick and dirty, but semi healthy 3. You want glorious mounds of gyro Honestly, one gyro sandwich can feed 2 people. The portions are out of control and the gyro meat is pretty gosh darn tasty. Note that I've never had their fries or salad and cannot vouch for that. I have even had leftovers, nuked it in the microwave and it STILL tasted good. Nuff said!

    (4)
  • Matt M.

Best gyro plate for the price! Cheap, friendly, and generous portions. Most people are satisfied with just the CHILD'S PLATE. This place has been going for years and hasn't changed at all. Great for to-go orders. Limited menu allows them to keep the prices low. Beer too!

    (5)
  • Tabitha N.

This locally owned and operated Greek House is the best you will find anywhere! Their customer service is unmatched! The food is amazing! The price is very reasonable! If you want authentic Greek food, this is the ONLY place to go! Parking is limited & they only take cash or check...but the quality of the menu items are totally worth any hassle either of those may pose.

  • M Sofia J.

I don't think I've had any other Greek food that compares to the Greek house, and I've had Papa Cristo's in Los Angeles. The food is extremely tasty (be warned! You may become addicted). The meat is always hot and cooked perfectly and they give you warm pita bread. I've always gotten the Child's Plate and it's enough to fill me up. Their fries are also cooked in the oil that drips from the meat and they're really crispy skinny fries. This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Norman! Just keep in mind this place only takes cash. If you forget your paper currency, they also have an ATM towards the back corner.

    (5)
  • Ivy T.

Highly recommend this place. Make sure if you're going back to class/work, warn people! Once you dine-in, you come out smelling like GREEK HOUSE. I went to this place since undergrad, prices were cheap AND you got a load of food! I usually get the child's platter, get an extra side of pita and I'm set. The food is usually served fresh, meat freshly cut, warm pita, with a side of freshly fried french fries. I loved seeing the older couple serve me, but since they sold it, I see a different group of people. Still same great service!

    (5)
  • Elizabeth C.

I am a greek food fanatic & this place is just amazing! The amount of food you get is worth the price! I am never able to finish! I usually order the child'd plate with extra pita bread, and that alone, is way more food than I expected! Love this place!

  • Scott H.

Greek House gets the benefit of it's reputation and location in this review. I'd say the food, which is excellent, is probably deserving of a 4 star rating. But, the "ambiance" bumps it up to 5 star status. It's just a classic Norman joint that is rightfully beloved for years. It was for me, like a lot of Normanites I'm guessing, my first experience with a gyro. And, they make quality gyros. The meat is seasoned well, and you get a LOT on the pita bread. You shouldn't leave hungry. It's not a huge place, but there are typically enough tables. If you are a student, I probably don't need to tell you to eat at Greek House. But, if you are in town for a football game or other event, definitely give it a shot, it's nearly an institution on OU's campus....

What can I say?? YUM!!!!! Locally owned by a family from Greece who regularly will shut down in the winter to return to their hometown. They are so good and very nice, however. I love this place and its location is convenient. Sorry, not a long review, but it's good.

I grew up in Norman but moved away about 4 years ago. I miss the hell out of this place and have dreams about it. Sometimes my friends offer to mail me a sandwich as a joke. Every other Greek and Mediterranean eatery has been a disappointment since then, and I really hope this joint is still open if I ever end up back in Norman by some chance because I'd definitely give it one more visit.

The Greek House - a staple on Campus Corner. After coming back 5+ years after graduating from OU, it's still as good as I remember!! Sure, the restaurant is tiny...maybe slightly grimey, but the food!! Get the child's plate - even I couldn't finish it!! Gyro meat, pita bread, French fries, and a salad. Nom. Only con = cash only.

  • Carolyn C.

I LOVE this place for their gyro meat. And it hasn't changed in 30 years! I'm not exaggerating. ...I worked there in college 25 years ago and when I returned to Norman, that's one of the first places I ate. They even have the same Greece posters on the walls! The previous owners sold it a couple of years ago & moved back to Greece.I think the new owners are Iranian & promised not to change a thing, and they haven't. They've added a couple of desserts, but that's it. Even kept the same posters on the wall! It's not a huge menu, but the gyro meat is the best I've had and I've lived in a lot of metropolitan cities. You order at the cash register, then find a table. There's only about 8-10 tables in the whole joint. They sell beer in the bottle, but no wine.

  • Trevor W.

This is my absolute favorite place to eat in Norman. It's cheap, friendly, and family owned/operated. You'll not find such a fantastic gyro anywhere else in Norman. You can watch them construct your sandwich, too. Small menu, big portions. The space is small but cozy. It looks a little dated but that makes it all the more endearing.

  • Amanda W.

Wonderful food! Wonderful service! Never ever been disappointed with my meal. The parking is not good but the food is so worth it!!

I LOVE this place. Every time i am in Norman I have this urge to go there. The price is cheap and the serving is huge. When u go in there be prepared to come out smelling like Greek gyros... The pita is great and that salad of theirs is amazing.

Greek house used to be my house for meals during my undergrad days at OU. The taste, friendly service, and decor is still ever present. During game days there's a consistent crowd of gyro lovers at GH. So its recommended to have someone in your party squat a table while someone else orders the yummy food. If you're dining here on a date night be prepared to carry the delightful smell of roasted kebabs otherwise just order take out. Also, GH offers an abundant amount of fries with their meals. So unless you really enjoy fries just order the gyro and share fries with your honey ordering the gyro meal. As other reviewers stated, the tzatziki is homemade and the owners are stingy with it, so if you need more feel free to ask and they'll be happy to obliged. Also, drink refills are 29 cents so be sure to bring some change or pay in advance. GH is a mom and pop business so there's no need to be stingy and not pay the refill fee. Please note, Greek House only accepts cash and checks.

    (4)
  • Caleb W.

Been to Greek House about 4 times throughout my 4 years at OU, and always go away dissatisfied. They don't accept credit cards, and I always end up belching later that night due to extra seasoning they put in there meat. Make a trip to Old Towne Gyros instead off of Main Street, it is far better.

    (2)
  • Gary S.

The food was outstanding. Very fresh & tasty...the portions were gigantic. We each got the gyros platter and frankly just one would have fed all three of us. The tzatiki sauce was excellent as well. Short wait in line and the food was brought to our table. They only accept cash and checks. Stinks, but I understand a small business avoiding the credit charges. We ordered the small humus and it was indeed, very small. It was fine, but nothing memorable. The lamb meat was excellent, cooked perfectly. The pita was also very good. Wondering if they make that in house...tasted like it. The only reason they didn't get my fifth star was because the seating area was cramped, crowded and not very clean. Our table also swayed back and forth. Next time I might take it to go, but I will return.

  • Chigurl T.

Stopped at this place on my way to Texas! It's a little hole in the wall I give it 3 stars for the amount of food they gave us. They were very generous with the amount of food that was on my plate. There tzatziki sauce was GROSS!!! It was like water down sour cream this was by far the worse I've ever tasted!!! Meat was good fries were tasty. This place is also very tiny and needs to be cleaned. This town was so tiny I'm sure this was the only Greek restaurant within a 50 mile radius. I will probably never come back,

    (3)
  • Miriam L.

My dad and I were sorely disappointed here. The gyro platter is is just meat on some iceberg lettuce with a couple of slices of tomato and bread. The greek salad was a few slices of tomato, some feta cheese and quite a few slices of onion on a bed of iceberg lettuce.

    (2)
  • L A.

Just plain delicious and generous proportions.

    (5)
  • Jordan J.

This place is amazing! The amount of food they give you should make the price go above $10 at least but it isn't! And the quality of the food is the best I have ever had at a Greek place!

    (5)
  • Alice G.

This place is like a college student's rite of passage.... greasy, oily, fattening food all for an affordable price. If you haven't eaten at Greek House before leaving OU you have definitely missed out! There are a couple precautions before coming to this place though, expect to come out smelling like you've wallowed in grease for hours because the smell sticks, but it's oh so delicious! Also they take cash only at this place (or when I went to OU they did). They don't skimp on the portions here either. You'll get great food at an amazing price. Their menu is very simple, so for the indecisive like me it's great. You don't have to stand there forever and realize later you have "dish envy" over your partner's food.
