Great food, great service, if your staying for awhile or driving through McAlester, stop here, I had the fried catfish with green beans, fries, and biscuit. I sat at the bar, I watched the cooks make my food and for other guest, they make almost everything from scratch. So if your hungry I recommend this place a must stop..

Local, pretty busy, very noisy, and VERY VERY VERY slow. I don't see the appeal other than the usual "small town charm" and the 1950s theme nonsense.

We stopped here Sunday while on a road trip. I found this place on Yelp and agree with most of the reviews! The diner is a very cute 50's looking place! The staff is super nice and while they were busy, service was good. We had the chicken fried steak and it was really good and meaty! The mashed potatoes were good but tasted instant. I am a mashed potato snob and really only like fresh. The fried okra was excellent!! We would eat here again for sure, I'd get fries instead of mashed potatoes though!! Desserts looked good but we were too full to try them!

Good food and fast service- they have 50's and 60's memorabilia with bar stools and vinyl booths- cute menus with meals named after characters from that era- we loved the fried green beans and chicken strips:)

If you're in McAlester, Oklahoma and you see the Angel's Diner sign, stop and give yourself a treat. The burgers are accompanied by a balancing bun and seasoned shoestring fries. I had the Cuban burger and it was cooked perfect and tasted better than I expected a diner to do hamburgers. This place is perfectly priced if you are on a budget for your trip. The decor is a throwback to the happy days tv show era. The service was adequate but you don't have to be in a rush soak it in and enjoy the food. The deserts are worth it as well. I want to stop here again on my way back to Texas.

Having Angel's Diner just down the road from the Candlewood was perfect. We would swing by there for breakfast and then proceed to our day. The service was very good and the price was reasonable. Seat yourself and everyone will take care of you. The pink interior and 50s decor was fun and provided a good atmosphere. Of course I ordered too much food. The grilled, smoked ham was an inch thick. Two pieces covered the plate. Very tasty. Menu items ordered sausage, cheese grits biscuit and gravy, . All was enjoyable. There was nothing terribly special, besides the ham but I felt good , maybe a little stuffed, when leaving. The dessert case is gawded at by many, including me and my family, but I did not see anyone order. Probably because it was breakfast time. I saw banana pudding, cobbler, carrot cake, red velvet, white cake, One thing that I wish I would have ordered is chicken fried steak. They flew by quite a few times.

I went to Angels Diner, after seeing reviews on this site. When I got there I saw that they had a steak house attached to the diner, so I went in. Mistake number 1, when a restaurant is empty at 7 at night, walk away. Mistake number 2, when the owner or manager tells you that they are having trouble getting getting steaks delivered, Run! Now that I didn't follow my own advise, I ordered a ribeye steak, it cooked to my liking. Taste was good, but it had to be the toughest steak I have ever had. It was so tough that I had a hard time cutting through it, with their steak knife. So when the waitress told me that the steak house was empty all night and they were ready to close early. I now know why, YIKES!

As far as diners go, it doesn't get any better than this little dive. I was driving cross country and was looking for a late lunched so I yelped restaurants in Mcallister. This was the nearest to our locale so we gave it a shot - it was a bullseye. The diner is decorated in 1950's theme, lots of pink and black with numerous Elvis sightings. As far as seating, it is a mixture of tables and booths as well as a bar with stools that are situated in front of the grill. All the cooking is done out on a flat grill behind the counter so you can see and smell all the deliciousness as it happens. It also gives you a good view of the staff working together - which they all seemed to be enjoying their jobs and helping each other. Now for the food: Fried mushrooms were freshly made - no prepackaged throw in the oven shrooms - these are the real deal. Freshly battered and fried to perfection. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Better cut them open because they are gonna burn your mouth if you just pop one in. I think they were the best I ever had - wife thinks they are a close second to Eskimo Joes. She can write her own review. I had the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with cream gravy and green beans served with a roll. This is not a steak the size of Texas like most places serve - half of which turns out to be breading. This one only covered about 1/3 of the plate. At first glance, I was a little disappointed. But after one bite I decided what it lacked in size it made up for in taste. By the time I was finished, I decided this was the best chicken fries I've ever had. The meat wasn't beat paper thin so it was actually a substantial offering of beef. The roll was incredible, wishing I had another one even as I write this review. Probably going to be dreaming about it tonight. The rest of my meal was very good as well. Wife had the steak fingers and my daughter had the chicken strips. Both were excellent. I had a couple chicken strips from my daughters plate when she wasn't looking. They also served a variety of desserts which nearly everyone was eating. I opted out because I still had eight hours of driving left for the day but would love to try the red velvet cake next time around. In a nutshell, the service was average in speed but super friendly and attentive. The food was all fresh, hot and delicious so obviously it took a little longer than your big chain places to prepare but the wait is well worth it. It's a legitimate diner - ie, they are in business to serve good food with a smile and they did a great job. If you are driving anywhere near Mcallister - take the four mile jaunt off the turnpike and eat a Angels.
