We had attended a fund raiser last month where Alvarado's was serving beef and chicken chimichangas. We were pretty impressed and made a promise to try it out some time. Tonight was the night, so off we went. Upon arriving we were seated immediately and our waitress brought out chips, salsa, queso, etc. The salsa was OK but the queso wasn't all that good, so we skipped it while we poured over our menus. Rather than having chimichangas, we both opted to try one of the dinners. I went for the spicy carnitas and the hubby ordered steak fajita tacos, both of which came out very quickly. The fajita meat was rather sweet, must be the marinade they use, but the guacamole was OK. The carnitas were not spicy and had a lot of onion mixed in. I've never had carnitas with so much onion added to fill it out. We concurred right then and there that it was a MAJOR disappointment. The server asked if we would like sopapillas and we said yes. Unlike many other restaurants they are not complimentary, which we found out when we got the bill. These have got to be THE worst sopapillas I have EVER had. It looked and tasted like they took a wheat pita and fried it. It was horrible, neither of us finished them and left them sitting there. Service was good, just wish we could say the same about the food. Knowing they had originally been on 2nd Street and moved to this new location earlier this year, AND with the taste of the chimichangas we had tried we had better expectations for this place. With so many wonderful Tex Mex places in town, it's easy to find something better than this. Teds and a few others have nothing to worry about.

It's my family's fourth time coming to this location and I don't know what other reviewers are talking about .. It's good food from good people. Every time I come I try something new and have never had a bad experience.

Great food and service. Like the different salsa, queso and relish ( peppers, carrot, onions).

I eat out every single day I'm almost sure I been to every restaurant in OKC Edmond and MWC area The food at Alvarados is good but not as good as Ted's Cafe escondido. Ted's is my favorite. None like Ted's At Alvarados the waitresses are very nice and their sopapilla is huge and really good of course. But the owner is Racist he doesn't like hispanic or black people even though that he is hispanic. every time I'm there i see that he makes differences between races. I'm hispanic he treat me different. I don't think I'm going to spend any more money at his place again. Soy hispano y me tratan diferente. Como si mi dinero no vale para el. No creo que me voy a gastar más dinero en su restaurant de nuevo.

I'm from Houston and this place would not make it if they were in our area. Sorry, there are way better Mexican restaurants than this one! Also the interior of this restaurant is dated and needs some cleaning. Food is ok. Service was good and friendly. However, don't plan to split a meal at this place unless you are willing to cough up a $4.99 fee. Wow! Really? At least the staff informed us of this before ordering. Your food is not that good.

My fiancé and I will never EVER come back here. Stay as far away from this restaurant and save your money for better authentic Mexican foods. The staffs were nice but service is below average. We were not given plates and silverware to use until after our dinners came out and that was because we asked for it. The couple who came after us and sat nearby offered us their plates and silverware and said they feel sorry for us. I tried to eat a tortilla but decided to put it back realizing I didn't have a butter knife or a plate to put it on. I ordered the avocado enchiladas with jalapeños rice and vegetables and it was the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted. The food was cold and it was literally two tortillas wrapped around two slices of avocado topped with sour cream sauce. The jalapeños rice was too salty. My dinner plate looked like it was untouched when we left. My fiancé ordered fajitas enchiladas and you can tell his chili sauce was from a can of Hormel's chili. The only thing I enjoyed out of this experience was when they brought out a sopapilla for my fiancé and his jaws dropped because it was huge! It was literally the size of someone's face. Their sopapilla is proof that bigger doesn't mean it's better because it was bland and had no flavor. The chips, salsa, and queso were alright. They have this yellow and white cheese queso dip which I thought were different. Overall for foods that tasted like they were frozen and heated up when ordered, I give this place one star because Yelp would not let me give zero star.

They don't shy away from the spice in the salsa!! Lunch plates are filling and tasty. Service and Speed can be hit or miss at this location. If you're craving OKC's complimentary chips, salsa, queso and sopapillas this is not a bad option! I appreciate how long their "sides" options are and you're not forced to eat the standard beans and rice. Not too shabby!

Decent Mexican-restaurant. Not the best in the area, but I would go back. Food was hot & fresh. Service was good even on a Friday night. Food had decent flavor. My shrimp tacos could've used more shrimp. Tortillas were good. Really big soppapilla.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
