High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. Avoid ordering foods that contain over 1000mg sodium at Applebee's, especially if you're dining alone.

High Cholesterol at Applebee's

Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. It is also advised to dodge the Three Cheese Chicken Penne and Chicken Fajita Rollup. Any main meal with over 100mg cholesterol is not idle for someone with high cholesterol. So, skip those items at Applebee's.

If you can get over the face that it's standard Applebees fare, it's not too bad. The staff is awesome and it's a good place to catch a game and grab a beer. Although they don't have NFL Sunday Ticket anymore.

Went there on a Sunday afternoon around 2-3pm time frame, was greeted at the door and also at the bar. Got my beer and menu... Notice people and the restaurant were having issues with their food coming out... Easily identifiable by the yelling in the kitchen and the two of the waitresses constantly running back and forth sending food back. I finally order got me a Parmesan steak and ask for medium... Time past after I assume the kitchen was getting caught up with the orders, and I got my steak. Everything was good as you would expect from an Applebee's but the steak was overdone. I can't say truly anything bad because other than that no problems just make sure to maybe ask for medium rare if you want medium and ask for medium if you want medium well... lol

Went there last night with co-workers because we were stranded in town for a few hours. The server (Sooner) was doing what she could, they were very short-staffed and I believe she was the only server for a while. But the kitchen was turning out NO food. The first food I saw come out, to a restaurant only about 1/4 full, was an hour after we sat down. It took almost 90 minutes for our food to come out and I ended up having to get mine to go. The worst part, I felt bad for the manager who had to have been having a tough night, so when he came around, I asked him "What happened tonight?" And he seemed pissed off. He became rude and unprofessional and at first simply said, "Nothing went wrong", then he went on a tirade griping at me about how he was short staffed, had to move people around, etc., etc. I felt sorry for the guy until he decided to use me as a verbal punching bag. Sorry dude, being a manager is NOT your calling!! I will not every darken the door of this Applebee's ever again!!

How many ways can you say something sucked? At least, three! The seating sucked. Mostly bar seats. The Service, Sucked. The servers are understaffed, and made rare appearances to our table, The food, SUCKED! I tried this new pork sandwich that they have My wife loved this sandwich at the Applebee's in Lafayette, La. This sandwich is to have pulled pork, crispy onions, ham, bacon, and turkey on it. While I was looking the sandwich over, I noticed it didn't come close to looking like the picture in the menu, and the pulled pork seemed missing in action. I advised our absentee server of this. She went into the kitchen and asked the cook where the pulled pork maybe. The cook told her that the pulled pork is layered between the pieces of ham. I looked closer, and found the pork trapped between two layers of ham. My napkin was thicker than that layer of pork. So I bit into this sandwich, and was not impressed. As I ate it further, the sauce was making me gag. I wanted to vomit it up. This food was so bad we were happy that escaped from just a very underwhelming meal only for $71.00. $71.00 I paid for may family to eat this stuff. Please do not go there and endure this. This was the worst dinning I had in years.

I failed yelp-nation by not checking the status of this establishment prior to committing my hard earned change on their services. 2 stars is generous bc of the holiday season Pros: cold, wet water and refills Server wasn't bad Cons: Table for two wasn't wide enough for chips and salsa and entree plate. Must be trying to save space for overflow of business... Chips and salsa - hire some local Mexican talent to show u how to bake a chip Bc these were so bad me and my bro date quit eating them. I mean, the way they were able to make them stale, crunchy, yet flavorless is quite remarkable. Chicken penne pasta was a creamy soupy flavorless mess. After I sucked down the last of this meal, which guilt and resentment shortly followed, I noticed I still had half a Campbell's can of cheesy mess in the bottom of the plate/bowl. Once the check came we had to clear room to sign the check. Bro-date practically had his bowl in his lap in order for me to sign the check. Don't go....how's that for a recommendation? Cheers

We moved here from Dallas on a Saturday. By 4pm we were starving and though Altus is tiny and not as fun as DFW we were in good spirits. My husband and I were excited for a new beginning and looking forward to small town life. Unfortunately our server, a bubbly blonde, ruined our experience a bit. She was attentive and sweet and the service started out well until she asked where we were from and why we were in town. We smiled and gave our little story. This is the moment I decided I hated her: Cutie said, "Well I am soooooooo sorry!" After this statement she proceeds to tell us about how boring and terrible Altus is. She said there's shootings and it's just a ghetto place to live. I have lived here in Altus for nearly three months. I was born and raised in Dallas and I know about the exciting the glamorous and the terrible, ghetto parts as well. Even the worst parts of Altus with their shootings (that I have never seen or heard) doesn't compare to West Dallas. WAITRESS: Don't feel bad for everyone who moves here. Sometimes small town life is a GOOD thing to those of us who know there's more to living than just access to shopping and restaurants. These things just waste away your money and what are you left with when it's all gone?? At least I live somewhere that makes me feel safe and I can spend quality time with my family. For this I removed a star.

The service was not very good. We sat at the bar and the server would be gone all the time from behind the bar. She was the only one working the bar too. At the end of the meal we asked for a box and it took a good 5 minutes. They have 10 TVs around the bar and 8 had the same game on. They did eventually change channel on some. Now 3 have infomercials on and 6 with football, none of which are one my line of sight. The only thing that kept this from being 1-star was the food.

The only thing good about this place is the manager. he seems like a nice and funny guy, who actually cares about his customer. so for that ill give him a golden star....which is the only star this place gets. the chefs in the back must hate there life because the food makes me think they made it and then threw it at the wall and then brought it out.

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Terrible food, terrible service, terrible attitudes amongst a lot of the wait staff. It's a shame that the only national sit-down chain restaurant in Altus sucks so bad. Sadly, I think this town kind of does that to 99% of the restaurants. My advice: just drive to Lawton or Wichita Falls if you want to visit a chain restaurant.

Ordered French onion soup. When it arrived it had, maybe 2 teaspoons of soup. When I complained, the server said Obama dictates our portions. I told her that's BULLSHIT Obama does NOT tell me how much to eat. $5.00 for two sips of soup. Never go to Applebee's again

Would give 0 stars if yelp allowed it . 2nd time at the Crapplebees and the experience was equally as terrible...clearly training is non existent and mediocre service and food is a standard. Problems during dinner: 1)buffalo wing order came out as BBQ wings instead of buffalo ( waitress took 15 mins to input food order and didn't check up until everything was cold so we ate them) Waitress informed us we had to notify her immediately if something is incorrect and attempted to educate us that we should have done more to get her attention...all while most drinks were empty. Waitress told us she could put in another order of wings and discount it to which we told her we are not paying for more wings... 2) 2 dinner items came out incorrect ( likely due to poor pos computer training...) Ordered 2 for 20 and the appetizer came out with the dinner. Defeats the purpose of an appetizer. Definition of an appetizer: a small dish of food or a drink taken before a meal or the main course of a meal to stimulate one's appetite. 3) had to get our own refills at the bar because after multiple attempts to get refills glasses were still empty and waitress failed to check up and fulfill customer requests. Everyone makes mistakes but probably not a good idea to argue with the customers when they are correct. True meaning of Crapplebees... Just so this whole thing isn't negative...the checks came out correct so that was the success for this experience

Not much to say. The 26 previous reviews I didn't check before sitting down sum it up. 2 stars is my Christmas gift. To spread the cheer, stay clear or you'll be a Scrooge after your applebees experience.

Brought the office crew out for lunch. They take reservations . Immediate seating! Appetizers and lunch for the crew. Photos to follow. Wide selection meets everyone's diet needs. TV's all over and easy viewing of multiple channel's. More when the food gets here. Had to re-order drinks....stump the bartender?! Had to look up how to make a Mojito. Takes this bust down to 3 Stars.

Terrible service. The restaurant was only at half capacity and it took 10 minutes for a server to take our drink order. 25 minutes after ordering we still don't have our appetizer.

I've been to a few Applebees in my day, thats nothing I'm proud of, but this one takes the cake as being the worse. The service was so bad it was actually funny, then it became annoying. If you eat here, expect to wait about 20 minutes to get acknowledged from a waiter, and expect another 20 to see your drinks. Our steak was overcooked to hell and back and the penne pasta was clearly sitting out and had congealed before reaching the table. I'm not expecting too much without any fancy sauce on the table, but still, this is basics here.

Avoid this place at all costs. But if you're fine with the crappiest service and horrible food, this will be the place for you. They never fail to disappoint me and my friends every time we go for dinner. The last time I ate here, let's see... Waited an hour to be seated. Once seated, maybe about 15 minutes passed before our waiter even took our drink orders and gave us the menu (but of course, we already looked at the menu while we were waiting for an hour). Waiter just left and didn't give us utensils. It wasn't just us because the man from the table next to us literally got up, went to the unmanned reception booth and grabbed his family utensils. My friend did the same thing for our table. When the food came, of course it was just as horrible as the service. Pastas with no bread sticks, my ciabatta chicken sandwich was completely dry, I had to get it returned to the kitchen for the sauce that was missing. Wouldn't doubt it if it came with extra spit sauce. The waiter kept on making excuses that it's her first day and apologizing that she is horrible but in my mind I was thinking she's doing just as bad as all the other waiters we've had in this establishment. The cherry on top of the ice cream was when she offered to refill my drink, it was a diet coke but she gave me back a Dr Pepper. The said Dr Pepper was actually for the table behind me that she also offered to refill and that person got my diet coke. So yes, I drank from a stranger's glass. A thousand points for health code violation! We complained to the manager and he asked us "what we wanted for him to do". We told him to figure it out but he just left and did absolutely nothing. This wasn't the only bad experience I've had with them but this is definitely the last. I would give zero stars if I could.

  • Meriam M.

First off, our waiter kept forgetting our orders and coming back and re asking for them (did it about three times). Then my husband and I both had burgers and they were both burned, un seasoned (their new burgers claim to have everything seared in... I dont think so) and the burger bread was greasy. Also, I asked for cheddar cheese and was given american. When he handed it to me I asked if it was cheddar he said yes... it was not. Our friend ordered the tripple bacon burger, and got one piece of bacon. Another friend ordered steak... it looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for the 40 minutes we were waiting to get our burgers. Two stars just because the place was clean.

It is really hit or miss... I love hot wings and Applebee's has them super cheap after 9pm and on Wednesday or Thursday (need to double check that). It's not Buffalo Wild Wings but the hottest flavor they have is decent.. I found it is better to ask for the sauce on the side, the cooks like to be stingy with the sauce.

This place has such potential to make money in this city, yet is disappointing every time. Slow service, seemingly untrained staff. This occasion I had the driest steak of my life after a long wait. Wasn't worth sending back. The party next to us asked for a manager concerning their order and service. The waitress came back twice to say they couldn't find the manager or they were too busy to talk to them. Non-existent management may be part of the problem.

Poor Altus. When Applebee's opened, there was hope that people could get a decent meal in this town. The food is mediocre at best and the service, while polite, is not trained at all. I have never seen a manager on duty and I suspect that is the problem. The wait staff and hosts spend an inordinate amount of time visiting with each other rather than serving customers. I have yet to have someone open the door for me. I have had several friends who have had hosting jobs and this is one of the biggest sins. And never, have I ever been thanked for coming there. I suggest a field trip to a real restaurant in OK City or Dallas. If that's not in the budget, there's an amazing little place on Highway 287 in Bowie TX called the Armadillo grill. They serve simple homemade food including buffalo burgers and the service is always top notch. It just proves that you don't have to have a fancy place to serve up real southern hospitality. Oh & ps -- if you are in the military, watch out for the waitresses. On every visit I always see the wait staff hitting on the servicemen. It's like a scene out of Officer & A Gentleman. I suppose I can't blame the girls, they are probably thinking .... please get me out of this place!

Our favorite lunch spot! They are fast for lunch, friendly servers and bartenders. I know others have said it's not that great, but our experience has been good. We have only had one issue here-an overcooked steak--and the manager came right out and gave us a new one and comp'd the meal. Altus doesn't have many clean and decent choices, this at least is one.

Well, there's good and bad, just like with all perspectives. So, here goes my own opinion: The first time I went, it wasn't really bad at all, it was actually alright. It was at 8PM on a Thursday night. I got my drink i nlike 3 minutes, my order came out in 15 minutes [and we had a big party of 7]. So I was impressed by how well the staff came to make sure we were satisfied and they made sure to keep our glasses full without us asking all the time, and giving us several options, as they were out of some menu items [due to unprecedented popular demand]. Then I went several months later with a group of four (4). Sadly, our drinks took about 10 minutes to come out, and it was only ice water, nothing special. Then the wait staff was saying that they only had 3 cooks that night [it was another Thursday around 9PM], so the food would be a bit longer to wait for. At least she was honest with us. We all ordered burgers. The place was about half-full. It took 45 minutes to get four cheeseburgers and fries/onion rings. Now, normally I'm a paitent person, but this was a loooong time. And we had like 5 different people filling drinks and bringing us a lot of stuff not meant for us. All-in-all, it was not ap leasant experience. But that SAME group of people I was with decided to give this place ONE more chance. And they made up for it big time. More cooks were hired, newer wait staff had been trained and was on top of their game on a Saturday night, especially. We were treated well ,and our drinks were refilled more often, and our food came out i n 20 minutes [understandable when the place is 75% full (not including the bar) you see]. So, it was good. This is an okay place for food and fun. The price is a bit much for me, but it's better than most big chains. Great food though! Love the steamed veggies and cooked meats. Definitely taste the difference. So give it a go, but preferably on a weeknight. Seems like the service is more relaxed and faster [relaxed meaning, you get the SAME waiter/waitress all night]. The place seemsm ore, homey, ha ha.

Applebee's is Applebee's is Applebee's. Really not a bad chain. The food is pretty good and they've got a decent beer selection. If you're looking for a place to hang out when in Altus OK, then you should stop by here.

Voted "Applebee's most likely to be closed". Food, service, generally all aspects of this visit are given a blessing of one star, only because yelp doesn't allow no stars. Don't waste your time!

Lord help me we did it again. I cant believe it. I actually dont want to write this because it comes as no surprise and its not going to change anything BUT im a good yelper and feel the public should know a bad business when its in our community. We just went in for my wife to get the Sangria drink she likes. Its the only place within 150 miles to get it. I know i said never again but i wanted to just get her the drink and then drive her to the Plaza to eat. So we get there. No one at the door to greet us. There was maybe 15 people in the place no employees in sight. We came in with a family of 6, a nice older gentleman and another couple that was waiting when we got there. Ten minutes go by and some man in a white shirt my guess is management, comes to the front looks into the hostess station without even glancing all of our way, not greeting us, not acknowledging in any way that we were all standing there eyeballing him, and just walks off. A few minutes later a non smiling no greeting and vary harried looking young lady shows up and starts seating everyone. Ok 15-20 minutes have gone by and we are seated. Our waitress shows up about 5 minutes later and asks what we would like to drink we order and she disappears. 15 minutes later we are still waiting, no action, there is not even a person tending bar so we know the drink is not being made. So now we are what 35-40 minutes into it and we have nothing not even water on our table. The place is still pretty much empty and the older gentleman that came in with us and was seated next to us has not even had his order taken yet. Hes been completely ignored. So we leave after i relayed my dissatisfaction to the man in the white shirt. We go to the Plaza and actually receive perfect service, food, drinks, the works. SPOT ON. I must say this time I mean it my wife has also seen the light and said she is giving up her Sangria thingy at least here in Altus for good. Not going back.

I must be one of the lucky customers because I actually have not had horrible service or food here. I am not saying this is the best restaurant, but if you want Applebees type food, this isn't a bad place. They are slower than other Applebees, but this is Altus and for some odd reason customer satisfaction is not a big deal here. So go when you aren't in a rush, order a drink while you wait forever on your food, and if you have to, just laugh about the service. It is then that you will enjoy your meal.

    (3)
  • Don W.

I dislike Applebee's with a passion. Not just this one. ALL. OF. THEM. If someone suggests going to Applebee's because they're "familiar" with it, smack em' upside the head. If I wanted Applebee's quality food, I could just go to Walmart and grab a frozen dinner and pipe in stadium noise on my stereo, because guess what? That's what you're getting! The only redeeming factor of Applebee's is that they have a full bar. Sidenote: don't drink and drive.

Worst chain here in Altus. Service usually ranges from below average to laughable. Food is lackluster, even for Applebees. They realize this, but it's in Altus, where else are you going to go?

    (1)
  • Dan N.

I wish we had a Chili's here in BF Egypt, AKA Altus America. But we don't. So if some of my acquaintances here desire chicken wings, or brewskies and a game, this is the place people "want" to go. Not really any options. A broken clock is right twice a day! Same goes for Altus Applebee's. Ever time I go here, my order or a friend's order is messed up or ends up in a black hole forgotten. Peeps tell me this place used to be good, but things went in the dookie direction recently. I asked for a margarita on the rocks. Okay what I'm about to describe, some people might not think this is a big deal, but if you're like me, this is criminal and wrong in every way... its still hard for me to say this... haha here goes... There was an ORANGE slice on my glass. On a salted margarita glass, with salt. An ORANGE garnish. Ok I'm trying to joke around, but this seriously happened. Who does that? seriously? I would never put an orange anywhere near a margarita. But it made me laugh, and I thought, wow, where am I? Altus is really a whole new world. This same evening while my girlfriend and I were eating, I had ordered a steak. Another table ordered a different type of steak, and then they left because it was taking too long. The waitress told me that they ordered a steak and left, so she wanted to know if I would take it. I thought it was funny, but thought why not so I accepted the mystery steak. Also this same night, every TV was playing a real life courtroom murder trial. And every speaker in the restaurant was playing the sound from the trial at high volume. Not exaggerating at all, it was loud. They must have wanted everybody to leave. Playing murder trial proceedings in a restaurant is is only cool if and only if all 3 of these situations exist, 1)someone who works there is related to or a loved one of a victim of this guy on trial, 2) The manager will not let that person off work, 3) That person needs money so bad they can't afford to miss a day of work, and they really needed coworker support and to watch this guy get convicted. Another time I came with my dad, ordered a cheeseburger. I posted the picture on the review. The thing took 30 minutes to make. I am not exaggerating. When it came out looking like a charred barbeque briquette I had my feelings hurt, and almost wanted to cry LOL. I told the waitress to get the manager, because the waitress was pretty lame, nice and sweet but lame. She tried to make a joke about the food taking so long was my fault because I ordered a cheeseburger, but when you have an appointment after eating, its not really funny. Especially since it took 30 minutes and I got places to be. So the manager came and I was real nice, I told her I wanted to get the cheeseburger comped and not get another one, also just wanted to pay the bill and leave. She was really nice and comped both meals, my dad's and mine. They made another cheeseburger even though I told the manager i didn't want another one when I first talked to her. We paid and left the restaurant before it came out. They tried to bring it out to our car in a to-go box but I told them to keep it since I didn't order it. They probably served it to someone else who ordered a cheeseburger.
