I live in L.A. and NO trip to Oklahoma is complete without a stop at Polo's. I've read the other reviews. Apparently they have no idea what mexican food is supposed to taste like, probably dislike Polo's cause it isn't Taco Bell. The queso fundido is legendary. The service is always excellent. And they serve the best nachos. The mild salsa is for people who don't eat much spicy food, ask for something hotter. Ground beef is not in traditional mexican food.

Just OK. Service was good otherwise one star. The chips were good but the mild salsas were like ketchup. I asked if they had anything spicier and the waitress brought out their green salsa, it was sweet but warmer than the other two. The tamales were dried out on the ends. But I did like the rice. The next time I'm in Ada I will be giving another restraunt a shot. Not interested in going back.

Went on a motorcycle ride today to the Amish Auction in Chiliat OK. Stop to eat here on the way back. Was not impressed and way to expensive. Cost more than the Fancy Ted's Mexican in OKC and Lawton. Will not be back.

My husband & I have been eating at Polo s for years. We think it is the best Mexican food & compare all Mexican food to polos and we have't found any we like better. I love the queso fundido. You can't get that at any other Mexican restaurant. The homemade tortilla chips are the best.

I have eaten at Mexican restaurants all over the state, because I love Mexican food. I honestly have no idea how this place is in business. I live in McAlester and had to travel here for a doctors appointment and had to find somewhere to eat supper at. My husband ordered chicken quesadillas which he said were cold and bland, and tortillas tasted like they were store bought. We also ordered white queso for an appetizer (which was 6.00). I ordered the Beef chimichanga with rice. When I got my chimichanga it was filled with shredded steak beef instead of ground hamburger meat. I got the yellow queso on top of the chimichanga and it tasted like the yellow cheese you get at a basketball or football game, straight out of the can. I just told her to take back the chimichanga and I would try to eat the rice. It was inedible as well. When we got the bill it was 30.00 . (after they took off my chimichanga) for 2 people, and one of them didn't get a full meal! I paid 6 for queso, and 4 for rice, for a side of rice, it was 4 dollars!!!!!!!! Then 5.00 for drinks. We will never go back there. I never Yelp (maybe 3-4 times, ever) and I knew as soon as I left I would comment here!

"The salsa is a joke!! I can open a can if tomato sauce too & call it salsa. It's probably the worst Mexican food I've ever tasted. I've tried this place on several occasions & in several different years from 2005-present day & I will never go back. If you want great Mexican Food in this town I would highly recommend Delicias!! Great food & very friendly!!

In all fairness, I've been coming to Polo's since 1978. It was the second Mexican restaurant I knew (after Zamudio's in Ada), though I had eaten a lot of home-cooked Mexican food. First, to one of the points made by the other reviewers, the mild salsa isn't very good. I agree. It tastes pretty much like tomato sauce. The hot salsa is better. But, if you like spicy, ask for the green salsa. You do have to ask for it, but it's world's better. I imagine that the mild salsa is what's popular here, though, so it makes sense for them to serve it. I no longer eat widely from the menu, as I now live in New York City and vist Ada only once or twice a year (though on every trip I eat at Polo's, if they're open while I'm there). So, there could be some dishes that aren't great. I don't know. But I usually have the green chili burrito, which is cubes of pork in a green sauce. Quite spicy, but well-seasoned--it has a lot of flavors, not just hot. I skip the rice and have extra beans, as I like the beans better than the rice. When I go with my parents, we always have queso fundido with chorizo and mushrooms. I haven't had it any better any any restaurant--and I eat in Mexican restaurants all over Texas (and have eaten at many in Arizona, New Mexico, and California). The fajitas here are especially good too. Tortillas are made on site. Often the owners, Hipolito "Polo" and Teresa Vazquez, are in the restaurant. Service is outstanding (of course, most of the waiters are college students, not career servers, but they are well-trained, helpful, and polite.) There are several rooms (in fact you can almost get lost). The main dining room is quite beautiful.

Their salsa tastes like a mix between ketchup and grape jelly, and they served my wife rancid chicken. This place is bad and I don't know how it stays in business.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
