As a very recent Miami grad, I dream of Skipper's. They had a great reputation during all four of my undergrad years for having the best "regulars," cheap drinks and great drunk food. If you really want to hate yourself in the morning, get your Bagel & Deli and stop into Skippers for a side of Jalapeno Poppers. Why go for the Freshman 15 when you can get the Freshman 30?

If you're looking in uptown Oxford for good, affordable, unpretentious food in a relaxed atmosphere, look no further than Skipper's Pub. Specialties of the house - burgers, fries, gyros, cold beers (especially in 3-foot-tall "towers"). The burgers can be ordered loaded up with everything, and are super messy i.e. delicious. Their fried are terrific, too, with self-serve ketchup so you can get as much as you want. The place isn't fancy, but it is darn good. You're likely to see current students next to faculty next to 70-year-old alumni in this place, all chowing down on good, simple, hot food. I'll be back for sure (again and again).

Great daytime place for food. Delicious burgers, quick service, and fair prices. It isn't anything fancy but the food is great for casually dining with friends.

Hungry and pressed for time so we stopped in for lunch today. It was exactly what I expected for a campus eatery. Be sure to grab change for the metered parking (unless you live on/near campus to just walk)! He ordered the gyro platter which included your classic gyro with a side and a drink. I ordered the chicken Gyro. Once we ordered and made our way down the counter to pay, a very confused young lady finished up our order. After minutes of confirming our order, she stated the Tuesday special included a side and drink with a gyro purchase anyway. They have waffle fries that were seasoned and taste really good! If you're thirsty they have Coke products. Indoor/outdoor seating available. Overall the food was pretty good, inexpensive and filling. I wouldn't mind going back for lunch in the future.

Picnic tables and rude students, followed by lousy food for the whole family. Cold fries, burned burger, a salad with more onions than lettuce... Acceptable if you are starving, but not the place to go for a nice last meal when dropping off your student. Disappointed because it was highly acclaimed by the Miami Facebook Parent group.

Love coming here for a beer especially while sitting outside where you can have some great people watching. Wednesday nights are the best with cheap beer and trivia on top deck.

Skippers is one of my favorite bars to go to when the weather is nice. The outdoor seating is clutch and the drinks are cheap. Also when you're there during the day (or at night), make sure to grab some food. There food is cheap, good, and hot. Perfectly paired with a beer.

Do you ever have the urge for the pirate life but realize you are a landlocked, country folk? Then skippers is the place for you! This nautical pleasure in classy Oxford, Ohio combines the inside of a ship with the saltiness of the sea. From the lobster cakes to the crab legs, Skippers manages to catch the freshest selections east of the Mississippi. Have a family? Bring em aboard matey! The sea hardened crew is always looking to serve up the finest aquatic grub. Would go back.

Another Oxford original. It's packed during the school year--the beer towers are always a huge hit. Always a little dirty and a lot greasy, don't expect anything gourmet here. But if you're in the mood for great gyros, the best seasoned waffle fries, and cheap beer, you can't really beat it. Head's up, service is at the counter--no servers here. If you want things quick, come on their off hours during the day or in the summer.

Timeless. Same great food and non pretentious atmosphere as when I was a student here 20+ years ago. Criss cut fries and burgers are still as excellent as ever. Gyros and much more. Great pub food.

It's alright for the trashy place on a college campus. If you're not buying beer, don't waste your time.

  • McKenzie S.

This is such a great place in town where you can sit and relax and get to know your friends a little bit better, even meet a few people. They play some music and if you really feel it, the upstairs area is a little bit louder. But anyways, the restaurant is great. Good mac 'n cheese bites and beer. Check out their specials and if you are feeling adventurous, take a chance with the beer tower!

I expected bar food but didn't expect it to be filthy. The bartender sat at th e bar with his friends the entire time. The girls working stood at the bar watching tv. Every table needed to be cleaned, plenty of time to do it, and it didn't get done. The girls restroom was gross too.

  • Zac H.

Shitty service. It took 10-15 min to find a bar tender, but food was good. They have great tasting hamburgers. It's also a little crowded

  • Stanley Z.

It gets 5 starts because it is a college bar that has a fun feel to it - and the owner is right there and working the business. BUT - if you are there during peak periods, be prepared to be handled abruptly and have your act together before you order or else you ill be yelled at. That grows old very quickly. Food is good.

Oh how I love you, Skipper's and Top Deck. This isn't a straight-up townie bar like the Circle Bar, but it has a more mature feel to it than anything else on High Street that isn't an ethnic bar. While the clientele are still mostly undergraduates, they aren't all underage like at other bars in the vicinity. I love that I can go to a bar on High Street and find very few people under 21 who are begging for me to buy them a "drank". The bottom level is Skipper's, which is more of a sports bar than anything. Skipper's (which also owns Top Deck) is the main bar in the building it's in, and drinks and wristbands can be taken back and forth between the two bars. You've got your daily, weekly and monthly specials - all of which are really good. There's also never a cover - that's underlined on their web site. However, you have to be careful: while there are no minimums on credit cards, they have a 50-cent charge for all purchases under $5, I believe it is. The best part about Skipper's is the patio, which patrons can sit on and drunk people watch - trust me, it's surprisingly entertaining. The upper level is Top Deck, which is more of a nightclub. This is where girls get picked up. There are pool tables here as well as foosball tables, but when I went it was overcrowded and you had to force your way through. There are days that are good for dancing - you just have to time your visit right and get lucky. Service here can be overwhelmed, so it is crucial to be patient and not piss anybody off. Skipper's and Top Deck are two (or one, depending on how you view the place) of the best bar(s) in town. Well worth your visit.

Definitely a great place to go for a drink and some food after an afternoon class. My dad LOVES their gyros, and he's super picky, so that's saying a lot for a small town bar.

A place you must visit! Neighborhood bar where the owner to all the tenders were absolutely the nicest friendliest I've seen!

Eating gyros before an icehockey game, another first for me, new to the States... I was excited about going to a Miami icehockey game as my colleagues had told me how amazing the rink is and how well the team plays. Turns out that the whole experience before and after the game was as interesting as seeing the icehockey itself. We drove up to Oxford on a Friday evening after work and arrived quite early in Skipper's. This pub is a favorite spot for my colleagues because it reminds them of their Miami U years. And as I stepped inside, I understood why. This is not a fancy bar, but it has a lot of advantages: you can arrange the tables as you wish, stay as long as you want without being disturbed, play games, drink beers, as many as you want, eat gyros (delicious! -- but greasy --), drink another beer... A perfect spot for a pre-game time! If I ever come up again for another icehockey game, I definitely would stop at Skipper's again! ps: I don't like beer so the woodchuck hard cider did the job for me!

Skipper's pub is the perfect place to grab some food and a beer on a nice warm day because they have a great front patio/seating area. It's actually a great place to eat year round because if its cold outside they serve some great hot dishes and you can cozy up inside and watch one of their TVs on the wall that is always playing. If you get a burger or sandwich or hot dog, you can complimentary fries. Hands down go for the criss-cut fries. Chipotle mayo, ranch, honey mustard, you name it for dipping sauces. All good choices below Cheeseburgers Grilled chicken sandwich Gyros Criss-cut fries Chicken salad sandwich Jalapeno poppers (creamcheese/cheddar) (side salad is not good) The bar itself has a pretty low key scene on the weekends but if you go upstairs to Topdeck you will see people generally trying to get as hammed as possible. On another note the owner is a huge Chicago fan and has numerous memorabilia hanging from his walls. If you are from Chicago and visiting def. talk to this guy, he is the man.

I have been here a few times. If you want everything to go quickly don't go when students are there because it is so packed all the time. Even when the students are there, it's always fun to be around a ton of people. I enjoyed the food I had and I loved the area outside.

This place is great during the day and late at night, which is a rare find in Oxford. If you don't like the brick street ratchet style but still want to hang with your friends and go out, Skippers is the move. It's also connected to a 21+ bar called top deck above and there's no cover. Absolutely go to trivia on Wednesdays with your friends ($1.50 20oz natty drafts)! The food is pretty good, too. I love the gyros and it's the only place you can get them in Oxford.
