Deet's isn't much on atmosphere, and it's located in a strip mall, but as you probably know, in T-Town, the fact that a restaurant is located in a strip mall tells you next to nothing about how good the food is. This is a great little family owned BBQ joint. When you walk in, the first thing you'll notice is that the place smells like a smokehouse. That's always a great way to start any BBQ dining experience. The next thing you notice is that the staff is ULTRA friendly and helpful; they really know their product. The service, for a BBQ place that grills each order individually (but, obviously, smokes the meat ahead of time), is certainly fast enough; it's great for takeout. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS: The quality of the food is just a little inconsistent. When Deet's is on, it could very well be the best BBQ place in Toledo. And when it's off, it's still pretty damn good. They have a sweet sauce and a spicy sauce (and they can mix them for you in any ratio that you desire). The spicy is not too hot, but it has a little bite, and it's nice and tangy. Their signature item, in my opinion, is the "Big Pete" sandwich. It's half beef brisket and half pulled pork. It tastes great and most people will find it filling. The chicken breast sandwich is the most healthy option and it's also great. The ribs (1/2 slab for 10 bucks) are usually really good, BUT, this is where Deet's inconsistency is most evident. Sometime the ribs are cooked perfectly and the meat falls of the bone, and sometimes they aren't so perfect. Even if they're not cooked perfectly, they've always tasted great. My only other complaint is that the beef brisket is a little too fatty for my taste. If I lived on this side of town, Deet's would be my go to place for BBQ. Great (usually) but somewhat inconsistent food earns Deet's 4 stars.

Delicious ribs. Good portions. I would like to try everything but we were just passing thru. Yum!

Very nice place to eat during a long trip. I had one of the family dishes. This includes ribs, pulled pork, smoke chicken salad, and brisket. The ribs are the best. The pulled pork would need a more smoke flavor because without sauce is too dry and plane. The smoke chicken salad was good. Brisket should have less fat. The homemade beans and coleslaw have very impressive natural flavors. I will stop by againg during my next trip to Toronto :).

We went to Deer's today. What a neat place! Talked to the owner for most of the time we were there. Wife and kid had pulled pork sandwich combos. Wife had the homemade apple sauce and the kid had curly mac and cheese. Both of them raved about the flavors of everything! The sandwich portions are huge! Since it was my birthday I went for the full rack of St. Louis style ribs with a side of curly mac and cheese. I asked for the spicy sauce. These rubs were awesome! Tender, smoky and meaty. The sauce perfectly complimented the ribs. Not too heavy. Can't wait to try out the rest of the menu. The nachos looked awesome and they've got something called a Toledo Dog that has awesomeness written all over it!

This is definitely one of my favorite places to eat in the Toledo area, and the best barbecue in town. If I was famous and could do my own 'Best Thing I Ever Ate' episode, I would choose their Smokehouse Tacos. They are awesome.

FANTASTIC! This place is a hole in the wall but I kinda want them to stay that way to avoid a crowd. If you like BBQ, you need to find this little place. Try the brisket...it melts in your mouth and the nachos are amazing with 2 different BBQ sauces.

The food was great, I had the sampler (first timer!). Good prices, everything tasted great. But I had a problem with the size of the location, which was NOT helped by the table of owners sitting, distracting the employees, and counting money... plus they were taking valuable seating on a Saturday afternoon. Leave that for an office.

This is one of the best places to eat in Toledo, I have been going there for years, they started with one on two sides, and now they have a good variety. There have been mixed reviews on the brisket, I say go check it out yourself, it's worth it. Sometimes it's perfect, and other times it's only pretty awesome. The nachos are always a good choice, the big Pete can now come with a strip of bacon, it's more like a small slab of bacon, very good. A family business is something you don't see often, if anything go support a local family who do whatever they can to please their customers. A few months ago a veteran was in line in front of us, the owner paid for his meal, and shook his hand- not much more you can say about people like that.

I told the girl upfront I had never been there before so I needed help ordering. I told her I wanted a take out order of 1/2 pound of the 3 smoked meats and a half rack of ribs. She said I couldn't get half pounds. I then ordered a pound each of brisket and pulled pork and a half rack of ribs. About the time the order came up I noticed on the board they had a sampler with a half pound of all three meats and a half rack of ribs and sides also for about the same price as what I had ordered. Then I saw that a half rack of ribs comes with a side and drink if ordered separate. I asked about it and the 3rd person to get involved told me I had ordered wrong and next time time I should order properly. There will be no next time. The ribs were not that good and getting forced to order something I didn't want at a poor value, and then being blamed for it is reason not to go back. Also I only not got half of the ribs I ordered, unless they do it different than everywhere else. I bet that was my fault too.

Went back to Deet's again. Again....meh. Chicken was good, ribs were okay. Some sort of strange smoke flavoring...something that didn't come from a grill...more some sort of fake smoke. Baked beans were very, very good. Green beans were basically salty canned beans...no seasoning or flavor other than salt. Cole slaw is okay...nothing special. Corn muffins and honey butter are the highlight. Still, the staff is cordial, friendly, very accomodating. Wish all businesses were run as well on the customer service end.

Deet's is the best BBQ you can find in Toledo. I hate chains and love to support small businesses like Deet's especially when their product is so good. I love their pulled pork sandwiches and ribs with sweet sauce. Their corn muffins with honey butter is also something that you have to try. Their sides are the only thing that had disappointed me.

I lived in St. Louis for 5 years and know what good que is supposed to be. I had a pulled pork sandwich and a side of potatoe salad and baked beans. The sides were so so, but unfortunately this is the norm, however the pulled pork is top knotch and I would easilt recommend it to anyone.

  • David G.

Great smoky flavor on the pulled pork! A little more meat would be nice and you get a lot of bun opposed to the smoky pulled pork. The brisket was really thin with a lot of fat on the edges, curiosity had me buy the brisket more than anything. On a side note...they have a 6lb nacho challenge!!

  • Joe V.

For the price, it is really good BBQ. The pulled pork is better than the brisket, in my opinion. The cornbread is pretty good as well. Overall, it is solid. It's good for takeout, but don't plan on eating in...it's too small. Fast, cheap, and delicious. Restaurant quality food, with fast food prices/convenience.

This is my favorite BBQ place in northwest ohio. The pulled pork is my favorite and it's done just right. The chicken salad is probably the best I've ever had - the chicken is smoked. I could eat a tub of that alone. And be sure to get extra sauce - it's good on everything. My only complaint is that they don't have a platter offering for their pulled pork. It's either a sandwich or a big tub of pulled pork. The bun gets in the way of my pulled pork, and as much as I like it, the tub is way too much. I'd just like a nice heap of pulled pork, a side of chicken salad, and maybe some corn bread. Perfection.

First time, the staff was really friendly, explained the menu well. I opted for the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. My friend, pulled pork sandwich with their potatoe bites. I was surprised the potato bites were cold - meant to be served that way. But they were tasty, came with a yummy dill dip. The pulled pork had a nice smokey flavor, but it was rather wet. Not sure if it was a combination of fat and water but I didn't enjoy that. The sweet sauce was typical. The sweet tea was pleasant. The coleslaw was satisfying. I would recommend if you're on that side of town, but I'd rather have City BBQ.

We are two couples traveling from Illinois and stopped at Maumee looking for a mom and pops place. The man who took our order couldn't have been nicer or more helpful making suggestions. We totally enjoyed everything-ribs, beef, tacos, and more.

The "Big Pete" was the best!! The ribs were also great. My husband and I along with one other couple were driving through on our way out East and were glad to find a local place with great food.

This BBQ restaurant is the real deal! Real applewood smoked pork here, no liquid smoke. Their homemade cornbread is amazing and their baked beans are awesome as well. My wife and I ordered a sampler platter and after realizing how delicious their food is, ordered a half slab of ribs to go as well. We are moving to the region and were in search of a great BBQ place, and Deet's seems to be the one. Also, the service was great, the owner took our order and the entire staff was incredibly friendly. Since it was our first time there, they took their time to explain the menu to us. If you are in Bowling Green, Toledo, or Maumee, go to Deet's, you will not be disappointed.

I was pretty impressed with this place. I ordered the brisket sandwich and my wife had the grilled chicken sandwich. Both of us were very pleased and I can't wait to go back. The beans were not remarkable nor were the corn muffins, but they weren't bad either. Of course you don't go to a barbecue place for the sides, you go for the meat which did not disappoint. The staff is awesome. Deet's is family-owned and they really seem to care about the customers' enjoying their food.

Going on vacation is a wonderful opportunity to find some really good food. That's what we found at Deers! The ribs were good, but I found the brisket sandwich AMAZING! We will be stopping back on our way back from our trip to VA. where there is some SERIOUS competition in rib/ Q category. ; )

I was curious to try Deet's after purchasing a restaurants.com gift certificate. After years of going to Lucille's, I couldn't wait to try this local joint. I expected a sit down restaurant and was surprised to see that it was set up like a fast food restaurant. There are a handful of tables and bar-style seating by the window. For large groups, this could be a problem. The prices were really reasonable and the menu was simple as can be. My husband and I ordered the sampler, consisting of a half pound ribs, half pound pulled pork, brisket, 4 buns, a pint of sauce, chicken salad, beans, and cole slaw. Yes, we do eat that much. I grabbed a bun to make a pulled pork sandwich first thing and noted that the buns would've tasted way better if they were toasted, or at least warm. The pulled pork was pretty dry, so dry that if you blew on the pork it would've flown away. Pork rating: 2/5 I'm not a huge fan of cole slaw but have warmed up to it over time. I do have an appreciation for crispy, fresh coleslaw that isn't drowned in mayonnaise. The cole slaw at Deet's was a bit soupy, a-OK on the crispy scale, but soupy nonetheless. Cole slaw rating: 2/5 The chicken salad was delicious! It wasn't overloaded with mayonnaise, and you can actually taste the chicken in it. It was nicely seasoned and tasted delicious as a sandwich. Bits of vegetables are mixed within it. Chicken salad rating: 4/5 I was really excited to try out the St. Louis style ribs. Although they were fresh, the ribs weren't cooked long enough to have the fat effectively melted off. The ribs were pretty fatty and had a good amount of gristle on them. They didn't have the "falling off the bone" effect. On the bright side, the sauce (sweet) was really good. Ribs rating: 2/5 The brisket was probably one of the most impressive things we ate that day due to its relative tenderness. The sauce added a sweet tang to the meat which easily ripped apart. Brisket rating: 3.5/5 Despite what I feel to be OK barbeque, what I appreciated about the restaurant was the local family feel. I know it's a family owned restaurant so I wasn't surprised when the owner asked how our food was. Everyone is really friendly and our food came out efficiently.

Was at Deet's last week while on a trip to Toledo OH. I just love when the owner greets you while they're enjoying their own food. I just say, "give me what you're having!". We had the beef brisket. It was wonderfully fresh with a tasty smoked flavor. The home made applesauce is a must try! I love this place and would go back!

    (4)
  • Steve S.

Better than the first time but not award winning! Some of the ribs are over cooked and dry. Other parts done just right and tastes.

  • David D.

Not Bad. I'd give it 3 and 1/2 stars if I could. I went to Deet's for the first time today and I will probably not be returning. The beef brisket wasn't bad however I have had better. The brisket was on the dry side and sliced very thin which took away from some of its flavor. The BBQ sauces were very good and helped the sandwich. I also ordered the Mac & Cheese which was very bland. If you do get it just mix in some of the hot BBQ sauce. I felt that the price was a little bit high for the food I was served. The dining area is small but not uncomfortable.

The only good thing I can say aobut this place was the cashier was friendly and it was clean. I went there around 7 p.m. Friday night. I have driven by there af ew times and when there was a groupon last week, I decided to buy the groupon and give them a shot since I love BBQ. I had the beef brisket and it was pretty dry along with beans for the side which tasted canned. The only side choices available were potato chips, bbq beans and one other side, they didn't even have corn on the cob or fries and they are a BBQ place???? Only two side choices, a spicy sauce (which wasn't hot at all) or a sweet sauce or mixture of the two. The inside is like a fast food place, so don't eat here if you want a nice dning atmopshere since your food is on a tray and plastic and the silverware is a dispenser with plastic silverware. I love BBQ and REAALY wish I could review the ribs and I can't. Now this is a lot of the reasoning behind the 1 star review, I couldn't review the ribs because they were OUT. I wanted ribs and was told they wouldn't have any for almost an hour because they ran out of them and wouldn't be off the smoker until almost an hour. I figured I would settle for a BBQ pork sandwich instead and was told they sold the last of the BBQ pork a few minutes earlier!!! How can a BBQ place not have BBQ ribs or BBQ pork?????? That is like going to Olive Garden and being told they ran out of pasta, going to Outback and saying they don't have steak, going to McDonalds and being told no hamburgers or going to Starbucks and bieng told they are out of coffee. A friend of mine told me their ribs are pretty good for Toledo, but unfortunately I wasn't able to find out.

I had to update my review because I've been back to Deet's a few times since my original review and tried a few more menu items. Based on all the food I've had, this place deserves 5 stars. First of all, the ribs are awesome. I'm usually not a fan of St. Louis ribs and I almost always go with baby back ribs if given the choice, but Deet's delivers some very tender ribs packed with a rich smoky flavor. I also got the chance to try out the mac and cheese which turned out to be really good compared to a lot of places. It is nice and creamy, reminding more of homemade mac and cheese than the usual restaurant fare that always seems to fall short. I also wanted to correct myself concerning the "heat" sauce. I had said previously that it was a little weak and not very spicy. After finishing a full rack of ribs drenched with heat sauce (I added lots more myself), I can attest that the heat builds over time. By the time I finished the ribs, my mouth was definitely feeling the heat. The sauce is great. Another big improvement since their early days is the menu. The menu is expanded to include combo meals, mini-combo meals with sliders, brisket nachos (in addition to the pulled pork nachos), and probably a few other things I'm forgetting. The sliders are a nice addition because after I recommended Deet's to a couple people, they reported back that they loved the food, but the 1/2 pound sandwich was too big for them. Problem solved. My only complaint with Deet's is that the interior layout could definitely use some improvement. There are very few tables and the seating that does exist is poorly arranged. If I brought my lunch crew here with 4 people, we'd be out of luck. You can sit a party of 3 if you want to sit at the window bar side-by-side, but more than that and you have to split up. They could probably get a couple 4-person tables in there if they tried, and it would be a big improvement. I'm guessing they see themselves more as a take-out place than a sit-down restaurant, but the limited seating definitely limits my opportunities to eat here.

The BBQ here was great, recommended to me by the Budget Inn front desk, this place has fall off the bone ribs and they were very succulent with a really good Hot BBQ sauce better than most places in Atlanta. Only downside I had was the place was really small and not really catered for people dining in, other than that would recommend.

Deets As a Floridian visiting family in the Toledo, I view Midwestern barbeque with some skepticism. The best barbeque is usually found in the South. I decided to check out Deet's after reading a glowing review of the restaurant in the Toledo Blade and seeing favorable reviews of Deets on Yelp. If I had to Give Deet's a grade I would give in a solid B however the the quality of the various men u items varies so knowing what to order is essential. The best item on the menu at Deets is the Ribs. The Ribs were most, meaty, and not overly fatty. They were not "fall of the bone" tender but such softness is usually only achieved with fettier baby backs. For St. Louis style ribs these were on the tender side. I would give Deets a B+ for their ribs. We ordered the rubs with sweet sauce which was little on the sweet / bland side for me. If I was doing it again I would ask them to baste the ribs in 1/3 hot, 2/3s sweet sauce. Deets should add a mild sauce to their current line up of either sweet or hot sauce. The Beef sandwich was dried out and the shredded into tiny pieces. The flavor was nothing special. I would give their Beef a "D" My recommendation just skip the beet. The pulled pork was nothing special. I pieces of pork were tiny closer almost sloppy joe in consistency, I like larger pieces. The fact that their sweet sauce is on the bland side also hurts them here. If your favorite form of barbecued meat is pork rather than ribs the Micro chain City Q's Toledo outpost is a better call than Deet's. I would give Deet's pulled pork sandwich a C+. Sides: The coleslaw at Deets is standard fare nothing wrong with it but nothing special about it either, C+. The baked beans were a let down, I would not be surprised if they were straight out of the can. These beans lacked any smoky flavor. They were bland. There are better beans to be found in a supermarket. The color of a sauce was a light brown. I would give the baked beans a "D." We also tried the Mac & Cheese, which another Yelped liked. On this point I was not in agreement. The Mac & Cheese tastes like cheese wiz. There was nothing special about it, I would give the Mac & Cheese a C. Deet's has brewed ice tea in both sweet and unsweet variety and their tea is quite good. Unfortunately, they do not have fresh lemons for their tea. I made do by adding a slash of lemonade from their soda fountain but this omission should be corrected.

Very reasonably priced compared to most BBQ joints (Try to find a full rack for $15 elsewhere and you won't.) The ribs and BBQ pork are very smoky and tender. Too many times in the mid-west, the BBQ is just slow-roast with no smoking going on. Deet's knows how to get the smoky flavor in there. I tried to get the owner to tell me what kind of wood he uses but he was not giving away secrets... Give this place a try!

This place was a convenient stop while I was driving on I80. They had a good brisket sandwich that was very tender. Both sauces were good. For Southerners eating the baked beans, add about a teaspoon of their sweet sauce and they're perfect.

This BBQ is absolutely the best that I've ever tasted in all of my travels! And I'm not kidding. Both Bob and Lisa are quite knowledgeable of their craft and has a staff that is friendly and courteous. I had the side of grilled corn-on-the-cob and it was amazingly delicious and crisp. If you live in the Toledo area, you should be proud to have access to this restaurant and if you're visiting from out of town, this is a must-try. I guarantee you that you'll go away satisfied and craving for more! Jon Dallas Toledo-native | China resident SATISFIED customer

Finally checked this place out. Yes, I set high standards for BBQ. Why shouldn't I? I'm paying money for someone to do something I can do for myself. I just would rather pay for the ease of being a customer. But give me a good experience. I will tell you if you scored, and I will tell you if you didn't. My mix of good and bad reviews stands testament to that. I have heard good things. I also read good things, but some of that was from Toledo Blade Food Critics, and they (frankly) know almost nothing. They are hackey cheerleaders at best. Anyway, to the Deet's BBQ experience. I had a Brisket Sandwich combo and my wife had Pulled Pork. First, major points for having sandwiches which you choose whether they are sauced or not. SWMBO does NOT like sauce on her Q. I like a dry rub myself, but I will also try the sauces. Pulled Pork was a mixture of moist and dry, but good. The Brisket was very well cooked. Tender and still moist with a great smoke ring and bark. The kaiser roll (or whatever) was a good foil. Substantial enough to hold the moist meat (and the sauce I tried) without falling apart. that is the good though. The main course was very good. Sides? No greens, no fries, no okra, no kidding? At least they did have mac and cheese and baked beans. I've been to 'ques that did not. I know! Right?! My beans tasted canned. If they were from a dry bean they had WAY too much juice and the meat scrapings they had added were not seasoned enough to carry the dish. A little more salt, some tomato product, some sugar or molasses and maybe a little dry mustard powder would have helped immensely. As would have a baking in the oven of at least a half hour more. My wife passed the Mac and Cheese to me after two bites. She said it had a weird aftertaste. It did, but surprisingly had almost no front-taste. Too wet and bland and then that funky back-taste. Dry mustard? Here, it was not good. Whatever it was. The menu is small, but confusing. You look up (as a first-timer) and you see a Brisket Sandwich Combo for 10.45/10.95 with side and drink. Then you look to the middle of the menu board and you see mini combos. The brisket is 6.95 with side and fountain drink. I'm sorry, maybe it's just me. I tell the cashier I'm confused. What's the difference? She tells me (kind of haughtily) that the mini is essentially a slider. They could say that on the menu and avoid some puzzlement. I'm used to a large sandwich (say 6-8 oz of meat and maybe a smaller lunch size of about 4 oz, but a slider is a slider. Call it that. And 11 bucks for a 6 oz (approximately) sandwich, half a cup of side and a fountain beverage is a little steep. i can find better at a lot of places for a couple of bucks less. Will I try again? Yes, but only for take-out meats. And if i get some fatty spare ribs being passed of as St. Louis that will be the end of that.

Deet's BBQ should be Deet's WTF. She told me "no don't do it", but me the stubborn one said let's give em a 3rd try. "You swore them off and said never again" she said but I was feeling the need for BBQ plus I was too far from the Best BBQ in town Shorty's and being that I was in Maumee. We ordered take out: Rib combo w/Mac & Cheese, baked beans $25.00 (menu price) Rib combo w/double side of Mac & Cheese $25.00 Beef Brisket Nachos $9.00 Let's me say this I think the total for this meal was actually higher but Ms. Thang (the wife) didn't want to show me the receipt. I've seen and read the reviews from the NW Ohio rib off were Deet's has won "4 years in a row as the best local ribber." I DUNNO BOUT THAT. Someone isn't a ribber they're a fibber. Our ribs were so tough and dry they could qualify as jerky. The meat required a lot of effort to pull away from the bone. Of the whole rack of ribs I only ate 4 and tossed the rest. They were that bad. The Mac & Cheese was horrible and inedible. They should be removed from their menu. The Baked Beans are no doubt the store brand Bush's with a hand full of meat tossed in them. My partner's ribs were the same as well. Ms. Thang had the Beef Brisket Nachos. I type this laughing cause I've never seen anything like the ones she showed me. Store bought tortilla chips with canned nacho cheese sauce, diced beef brisket, then BBQ sauce squirted all over everything. This wasn't anything a lady would want to eat so she pitched her's in the trash as well. So to The Deet's family. Take my 70.00 or so bucks use it to pay whom ever you buy off at the NW Ohio Rib Off. Your food isn't as good as perhaps your friends and family may have led to to believe. Their false encouragement to open a Rib joint in this town only serves as... the jokes on you. I gave you enough chances and I part with this....NEVER MORE. Oh your corn muffins were pretty good.

We caught their food truck at downtown Toledo's Fourth of July fest and got a burger, pulled pork, potato salad, coke slaw, and cornbread. Meh. The cornbread was tasty, though! Maybe their actual location is fresher and better?

I had Deets BBQ bookmarked for a couple months now, and finally had the opportunity to try it. We went around 6pm, and it wasn't crowded at all, which is good since the place is pretty small. I got the number 1 combo, which was a pulled pork sandwich and a side and drink. I got the cole slaw which our worker recommended to us, and it was really good. The pulled pork sandwich was really amazing, and was a good size and really fulfilling. The service was really good to, and the girl working there was very friendly. My only complaint is the lack of variety in sauces; they only have a sweet and a spicy, but the spicy wasn't nearly spicy enough for me. It was good, but a spicier option would have been better. I can't wait to go back though, and highly recommend it!

We didn't feel like making anything for dinner, so we decided to try a cheap dinner out and let's just say, I've had better barbecue. We shared the 1/2 pound beef brisket sandwich and a large curly mac and cheese. The meat was a bit dry, and they have two types of barbecue sauce: sweet and spicy, which are pretty good. We had them mix them together for our sandwich and they went really well together too. The mac and cheese was very bland, but much much better after we added some of the barbecue sauces to it. The service was good, but the food here is not worth the price in my opinion. We ended up going to Taco Bell afterwards because we were still hungry. All in all, we probably won't be going back because the food was just mediocre and not worth the price.

This place was the bomb.com -- The "Big Pete" got the meat that will knock you off your feet, And the Mac and cheese....... Mmmm more please! On the real though: this place was amazing. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming - the atmosphere was pleasant and seemed very clean. We were served the food very quickly. As noted above, we ordered the "Big Pete" sandwich (Boyfriend's name is Peter...so, we had to), and the pulled pork sandwich . For sides we each ordered the curly Mac and cheese. Which, again, as noted, was phenomenal! If you like creamy Mac and cheese with lots of flavor, this is a "must" at Deets. Whether you're just stopping in town or live near by, this place deserves a visit!

Well, they've managed to do it for the third time! I drove 20 miles for their ribs, stand in line for 10 minutes and, at 7:30 on a Friday night, they don't have any ribs. Their lame excuse, there were a lot of customers. DUH..... There ribs, when they have them, are good, but they obviously don't know how to run a restaurant that specializes in RIBS. Take a pass.

Our experience at Deet's was excellent. I would definitely consider myself to be a BBQ snob, and I was impressed. I ordered up the Big Pete, which is a sandwich featuring pulled pork, beef brisket, and cole slaw on top. It was freakin' phenomenal. The brisket was so juicy and tender, and the best I've had in a good long while. The sauce was flavorful. My girlfriend ordered up a pulled pork sandwich, and between us, we had baked beans, mac and cheese, and a corn muffin for sides. The sides were competent, but it was the main course that shined. The atmosphere was pleasant enough, and there were a couple guys playing blues in the corner that said they were there every Monday night. Cool. The only thing I would change would be the buns. They could definitely be upgraded. But the BBQ meat was so darn good that Deet's get's 4 stars anyway.

Oh Deet's, I wanted to love you so. After stalking you on Instagram and drooling over delectable pictures of your slow cooked and juicy BBQ, my boyfriend and I finally made it in one evening to order some dinner to go. Thankfully, I had reviewed the menu before walking in as the signage is somewhat confusing and it's difficult to figure out if you should order at the counter or grab a seat. A cashier indicated that we could order when ready. As I formerly lived in Cleveland where Fatheads Brewery has jumbo smokehouse wings to make a grown man weak in his knees, I was excited to see Deet's claim that their Sweet n' Smokey Wings are "Fresh jumbo wings tossed in our special chicken rub and slow smoked to perfection. Char-grilled and finished with a sweet glaze." You can choose 6 wings for $7 or 12 for $13. We decided to get a dozen to split, a large side of curly mac & cheese for $5 and two corn muffins. It smelled amazing so thankfully we only live like 5 minutes away. Let's go with the good news first. The curly mac & cheese was creamy, cheesy...basically two servings of love in a take-out container. The corn muffins also deserve a nod of approval. They were slightly sweet with a good texture though they are made well in advance and sitting in a case on the counter. On this note, Deets, you did not disappoint. ....and now for the bad news...the Sweet n' Smokey wings. The poor unfortunate wings could only be considered jumbo if held by the hands of Tyrion Lannister. It was a mixture of drumettes and wings with some resembling typical bar wings and others looking like it came from a sparrow. None in the box could be considered "jumbo" though. Considering each wing was about $1, I felt a bit ripped off. Some of them had the pinkish hue of smoked meat but most were just kind of dry. The sauce was sweet with a bit of heat and wasn't bad, but we did end up adding our own BBQ to offset some of the sweet. I will give you another chance, Deet's to win my heart, but only just one more!

Deets BBQ, well I myself who love BBQ and eat a lot of it did not enjoy my meal. Pork was wayyyyy to fatty and the sauce in my opinion is not very good. There sides are just ok. Not a place to sit and eat it's just to small. Mid your in visiting from outbid town don't make this a destination stop. Service and people were nice service was good just not the food.

I would say the BBQ was pretty good. We were starving when we got there! We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and beef brisket with a side of wings. The bun was not warm or grilled. The meat portion on the brisket was slim. We love the BBQ sauces. I wish there was more then two. I like to have 4 or 5 to try. Couldn't believe when I paid the girl flipped the screen and asked me to put in a tip amount when it is self serve! We felt prices were too high.

  • Jenifer R.

Deets is consistently delicious. The real smoke flavor makes all the difference and makes the sauce completely unnecessary, but the sauces are so good as well that it's hard to resist! I will say that I have not been especially impressed with their side items, but with generous portion sizes of the entrée I seldom have room left for them anyway. I recommend the brisket and the smoked chicken salad!

Visited this BBQ Joint for the first time...For what I order (1/2 slab of ribs-6 bones, Cole slaw, baked beans) I found that $16.52 to be VERY PRICEY...The baked beans and Cole slaw was OK, at best...I was not thrilled by those side dishes... The ribs with the sweet BBQ sauce was AWESOME... EXCELLENT RIBS, TASTED FABULOUS... So my recommendation; BUY THE RIBS ONLY WITH THE SWEET BBQ SAUCE... If I visit again, I will ONLY ORDER RIBS...

The chicken had a very stringy texture and the pulled pork was very fatty. The preparation must have been done in haste because the amount of fatty waste that we cleaned out of the sandwich was nearly half the quantity. The inside wasn't very large, and every time the door opened a cold breeze swarmed in affecting every table in the small dining area. They have newspaper articles and such on the walls suggesting they've won awards for their food, which is entirely possible. I'm just speaking from our one-time lunch experience that it was certainly a 1 out of 5 star meal. We are out-of-towners so there won't be a second go at this place.

Ribs = rock star! Sides = reason why this place is not 5 star. O.M.G...those ribs were friggin' awesome! Smoked to perfection and still required some "chew" to get them off the bone...cannot get more "textbook" than that. to top it off, there is very little sauce applied out of the kitchen, just mostly their rub which once again shows you they are letting the meat shine through and not covering things up with loads of sauce. I chose the baked beans as a side, and although they were good, they were not rock star good. Also had a cornbread muffin (gal behind the counter talked me into it)...and although I'm not a huge cornbread fan this one was pretty good and moist to boot. Lastly, they carry some locally brewed root beer on their fountain tap (sorry I cannot remember the name), but it was really good so we took some "for the road". Would definitely swing through here again, next time passing through Toledo and the I-80 turnpike...very convenient to that general area.

Was not impressed with the food, ribs were ok bit not great, we had to wait for the ribs to finish smoking but yet they were not hot when we got them. Too much liquid smoke and not enough actual flavor. Walked in and the place looked run down and charged me almost $30 for my meal. I ordered a pull pork sandwich, potato salad, and a half rack of ribs. Ribs are okay, potato salad bland, pulled pork- a bit dry and full of liquid smoke. Where's the real BBQ in this area? When did they stop using the pit/grills to make BBQ? My meal tasted like liquid smoke and I only took a few bites out of everything. I miss charcoal flavors in my BBQ. Looks like I'll have to do it myself.

I have had BBQ across the U.S., from Mississippi to California to Connecticut, and this was one of the best BBQ I have ever had. I order the pulled pork sandwich, and my husband had the Big Pete (pulled pork, brisket, slaw). I took home a rack of ribs last night and they were stone cold and tough. I only live a few miles from them. I had to wait 10 minutes for my order so that should not cooled them off. I can live with the temperature but if they are not tender, it is very disappointing. Ribs at Deet's seem to be hit or miss.

If you don't know what you want, GET EVERYTHING. That's what the Deet's Personal Sampler is for! And being a Deet's virgin, it was the perfect meal for a girl still trying to find her way. It was unfortunate that I chose the day and timing when they were out of brisket, but they gave me the option of doubling up on pork or chicken. Pork, please. 1. RIBS. Loved the ribs! I was craving ribs all day and this was exactly what I wanted. Nice and tender and the sauce just completed the whole experience. I would return for a half slab alone. With about 4 of those badass corn muffins served with melted butter. 2. Chicken. A nice, thick, juicy portion of chicken slathered with the same sauce. I would also return for this. 3. Pulled Pork. The pulled pork was pretty good, but it didn't win my heart for whatever reason. No sauce...not sure if it wasn't supposed to have sauce but mine did not. And without the sauce, it was a little bland for my taste. Sauce: MIXED. You can choose from sweet, spicy, or mixed! Not rated: Beef Brisket. I shall return to try the beef brisket and get some more of those ribs. I just came for pick up but got to enjoy a little bit of the live blues band. Got me questioning if I was still in Toledo. Their food truck also hits up the Downtown Perrysburg's Farmers' Market Thursdays from 4-8pm!

I went to Deet's today for the first time. Staff was very friendly and enjoyable. (Probably wondering why I rated them 3 stars) I ordered the pulled pork sandwich (Priced a little heavy for lunch time). I was amped up to eat this sandwich because a customer in line told me that this was the best BBQ around. I dove in and this is what my taste buds told me. Pork was good, not great. The bun was cheap or old! By the looks and taste it was probably a frozen bun from GFS that was thawed out. Maybe I am to picky but I know for a fact that GFS is know for lower quality food (they do well in school systems, hospitals, healthcare etc. They are perfect for that but not restaurant quality.) Once I saw the GFS that box I was concerned. Moving on, the BBQ sauce on the sandwich was a little light. Which I can handle but they should have offered me BBQ sauce to-go. After taking my first bite in the car I ran back in to get more. I did not have a side, so no opinion there. Would I go back? Maybe. Would I drive 30 min? No Side Note #1: Toledo is plagued with "not so great BBQ" Maybe my standards are to high but I am not a #1 fan of Deets. I would prefer Famous Daves or City BBQ. Side Note #2: They need to fix that front door (Pressure issue not a door hinge issue). Not a deal breaker but it sure is annoying.

Deet's BBQ was Awesome, we had the Family Sampler. We met the owner's son, was very pleasant and informative about Deet's and the area. The to-go box was not so great, they advertise they are going green. Boxes were hard to assemble and did not stay closed once we did figure it all out.

This is my favorite barbeque place! It has two things going for it: a) it's local and b) every other place I've tried in several states can't match it. Eli's in Cincinnati comes close but the magical combination of smokiness, tenderness, and their excellent sauce (I prefer a mix of sweet and spicy) sets them apart whether it's ribs or brisket. Their wings are also extremely good but pricey. Their sides are all good quality but I consistently find myself defaulting to little reds and cole slaw. The dip that comes with the potatoes is incredibly addictive. As their popularity had increased I have found that ribs can be in short supply in the later hours so if you're hoping to try some get there early or call ahead to check. You owe it to your taste buds to eat at Deet's!

The barbecue was okay, but the sides (Mac n cheese, cornbread) had no taste. I had a salad, and the lettuce was brown and disgusting. Guess that's what I get for ordering a salad at a barbecue joint. Staff was friendly and accommodating, but I will never go here again.

Brisket sandwich - good. Fair amount of meat, pretty tender. Sweet corn - good. Nice grilled corn on the cob. Mac and cheese - meh. Wouldn't get it again. Considering the cost ($11), I thought it was fine. Not the best BBQ I've ever had, but not bad for a quick fix.

Just stopped in for a little bite and this place was amazing! We got the pulled pork mini combo and it was excellent-realy tender and very smokey! The potato salad was legit as well. Definitely go here if your in the area.

Better than the first time but not award winning! Some of the ribs are over cooked and dry. Other parts done just right and tastes.

We will be stopping back on our way back from our trip to VA. where there is some SERIOUS competition in rib/ Q category. ; )
