I've been going to Tank's off-and-on for years, but I started spending a lot more time here while working a job where I didn't get off until midnight. There aren't a lot of places in Dayton that keep their kitchens open late, and Tank's serves food until 2am on weeknights, and I'm both too young and too old to be a fixture at Waffle House, dammit. Portion size is decidedly the name of the game. The french fries are only so-so (even though the menu describes them as "famous") but you get a LOT of them. Same deal for the omelettes or biscuits and gravy. The burgers are pretty tasty (and again, huge), and if you ask nicely, they'll put sawmill gravy on your waffles. I'm a bit dissapointed with their jukebox. They have one of those digital jobs with thousands of songs, but they filter out most country and hiphop. Dammit, Tanks, what if I'm in a groove and I REALLY want to listen to both "Big Pimpin" AND "Mama Tried" while I eat my wings? The situation comes up more often than you'd think.

Pros: Get A LOT of food for a small amount of money, great place to go for any meal, great place to take friends and family, staff is very friendly, food is yummy Cons: When it comes to seating, you're on your own.... Which is horrible on crowded days.

When you arrive in town ( Dayton, Ohio) and it's after 11PM and you're used to Virginia where if you're open and serving drinks, the kitchen, by law is also open. So after being nicely told "I'm sorry we closed the kitchen at 10 PM" you finally find Tank's. Yay! So, my wife and I had burgers and fries, pretty darn good, too,mi might add. So At about 11:30 after driving over 600 miles, we ate. I would have given Tanks 3 stars for simply having food available. So if it's late and you're hungry in Dayton or of a morning want brunch/breakfast and a great one I might add....you just might want to stop in. What's interesting is that location has been a bar and restaurant since at least the 50's. That's well before I ever went into a bar but remember it well because I passed it daily.

Of course I have been to Tanks numerous times but this was the best experience I have had thus far....finally a male service staff member. Can't remember his name as I visited a couple weeks ago and am just getting around to writing the review. Ordered broasted chicken and since it was taking a while, which was aware it would, and not concerned at all, he brought me a salad. He was very personable. One thing I wish Tanks would improve on is their draft beer...it is always warm. Our service was a breath of fresh air compared to some of the "more seasoned" servers who are not too friendly.

Really nice place, good food and good service. I also like the ambiance of the place. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Ah-maaaaaazing. Mistakingly went on a Sunday morning and stepped into pure chaos. There is no hostess so you just kinda pay attention to who was there first. We sat right down though..and even with how busy it was we had fantastic service!! The hamburger was to die for! Toasted bun, juicy meat and fresh toppings. Broasted chicken is juicy and crunchy. My favorite though, was the Mac and cheese. Best I've ever had, no joke! Can't believe I have been missing out on this gem. Make sure you try it out, you won't be disappointed.

I like that this is not a chain, but the food and meat are just average. You will be off your diet for sure here, but if that is what you are looking for, then head on over there. It's a casual but comfortable atmosphere. It's A-OK.

This is the place where it was confirmed that family members like me to squirm. I asked one to go to breakfast with me, and he said "Only if we go to Tank's. Oh nooooooo, not Tank's" I say, but I really wanted to see him so I reluctantly agreed. Small parking lot across the street, and the entrance is a dump. I mean really a dump. Bar area looks and smells like a dive. They led us to a raised area that was new and not so bad. Here's where I'm confused, you expand but can't improve your entrance so people have a good first impression? Here's what I didn't like: large tables of UD students in pj's and house slippers that were drunk at 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning, and seemed to be in a contest of who could talk the loudest. Their parents would be proud (not). They could have at least slowly delivered every new round. Here's what I loved - the beer selection. For the second time in a year I had a beer for breakfast (brunch really). It was a Kona Coffee Ale and I could get addicted. It was that good. Between us we got an omelet, Road Kill Chili hash browns, and gravy with biscuits. Gravy was just OK ( but then I make the world's best gravy so don't usually eat it outside) Omelet was excellent (in a girly size) and hash browns were covered in what tasted like canned Skyline Chili. It was filling for sure. Service was good. But here's where it get's interesting - I asked my companion what he usually eats here (the same dining companion that told me there was a dead guy the restroom in Pere Antoine Restaurant yelp.com/biz/pere-antoin… ) and he said he never eats there. "Then why did you insist we eat here" I ask? "Cause I wanted to see you squirm." "Did I" I asked? "No, you did really well" he replied. I learned a lot thru this...mainly never to let them see you squirm. I hope they have this out of their systems since I've learned that.

Tanks is a great breakfast stop. Today, I stopped in after mass and had breakfast. I ordered country gentleman (3 eggs, serving of either ham, bacon or sauage and toast). It was prepared just as I had ordered. I ordered at the bar, Heather, the barkeep, was friendly and attentive. I totally recommend Tanks

Went here yesterday and got the tankasauraus and it was the single most disgusting thing I've ever bitten into. It says ny strip but I'm guessing it was mystery meat on clearance from the Kroger down the street on wayne. After I swallowed the bite I immediately asked for the bill payed and got the f out of there. I didn't care to argue or have the server take the plate of food back to have it recooked. I was holding back the vomit in my mouth the whole way back home. If this sounds like the sort of thing you're into then come to tanks!!! Oh btw the table was dirty and when you walk into the place check out the upstairs on your way in. Trash is pilled up and is visible through the windows. It's pretty obvious that whoever owns this place gives zero f****

Great food. Had the pastrami on light rye. Very good sized sandwich and good flavor. Adding to my list of favorites.

My wife, kids and I went there last night for dinner. Having heard that it was listed as third out of the top 16 places in Dayton we decided to go eat there. Well we're fortunate to get a table quickly since it was a Saturday night and the service was adequate. I ordered the tank burger w/o lettuce and my wife ordered a bacon cheeseburger. After a very long wait for our food I received my burger with lettuce and she got her burger without bacon. The burgers were average and lacked flavor the upgraded fries were good and plentiful. Would I rate this place as a must eat in Dayton? No I wouldn't. It's average at the most.

Huge portions and fun atmosphere. Seating is 100% random luck if you get a table. It's easier with smaller groups. I got the goblet and split with a friend and we still couldn't finish it. Amazing restaurant and a true Gem.

Nope, bad food, worse service, and its a disgustingly filthy restaurant!!! But if you want to experience second hand smoke, your not so friendly waitress can pass it on to you! Sorry Tanks its thumbs down from this girl!!!

We came here on a Sunday morning for breakfast. As others have mentioned the parking is a bit of a mystery. We parked out and around the back in a lot that had no sign of being a tow away zone, but was a bit unsure. Our car was there upon our return no problem. After entering the restaurant, there was a large gaggle of people crowded around the entrance. What we soon learned is that there is no host/hostess, its basically the honor system among the to-be patrons to keep track of who was there first and who gets the next table when it opens up. This leads to swarming around any table that looks to be leaving and sitting down in front of their dirty dishes. It really isn't the most efficient method of operation. In terms of the actual food, it was good, and I like that there is the option to have beer, though I stuck with coffee on this visit. Next time I am in Dayton I may try Tanks in the evening as a "bar" but for a breakfast place its sort of a mess.

The burgers are great. The staff is awesome. But the owners/management are sexist and treat their staff like it's 1975. I've enjoyed this place every time I've dined, or had cocktails here over the past year. But in that time, I've formed a relationship with the staff... They're good people who do their jobs well, but are treated horribly. I would never jeopardize someone's job for a post, but when you treat people like shit, you need to go. (Go and be educated)

At first I was kind of scared of this place and then I walked in and had breakfast and found out it was amazing! I only wish that the quantity matched the price of the food. But great food great drinks all Nalle a great place to have breakfast lunch or dinner.

The drive here for us we interesting....we went through some neighborhoods "with a lot of character" and then were a little unsure about the parking situation maybe its just because we were from out of town but we were a little uneasy until we got in the door then it was just like any other bar. Service was a little slow, I feel they were short staffed or something but our waitress to be came over twice to let us know she'd be right with us before she was able to come over and take our order. I ordered the city boy breakfast and it was good, my friend ordered the lumberjack and he couldn't finish it all haha My portion was average but his was pretty big. The coolest thing here was the bottled beer selection they have. They have over 100 options! The waitress mentioned one that tastes just like root beer, i wanted to try it but was pretty full after my first beer and breakfast, lol that sounds wrong.

Every Thanksgiving Eve, my siblings and I gather our significant others, cousins, high school friends, sometimes parents, and anyone else who wants to tag along, and head to Tank's. There is a really nice selection of bottled craft beers. Sometimes, those seasonals go on sale for ridiculously cheap. They remodeled, and there's more seating now. Also, the restrooms are no longer in a tiny room that appears to be a broom closet with a toilet. Almost the only thing I ever eat at Tank's is the meatball sub. It is the meatball sub by which all others are judged. It is also far too large for one person to eat, so make sure to come with someone else. Get the potato chips with dip. That's real good too. I think I got a grilled ham and cheese sandwich once, when I had no one to share the meatball sub with. It was yummy. Another time, I got a Manhattan because I'd already had a Tank's meatball sub that week (I used to live less than a mile from Tank's)...that was good too. Don't expect something fancy though, because this is a bar first and foremost, and the kitchen is still pretty small. This is also someplace you might hang out on Dec. 23 or 26, Easter Eve, pre-wedding, or post-funeral.

I've been here twice. Once while I was drunk. The food was better then. :) Irregardless, go here. It's a great place to have a beer and some eats. It's a Dayton staple.

  • Katherine S.

Great food and service! Packed at 10:30am with a very lively atmosphere. Had a great burger and the best grilled vegetables. It seemed as though the bloody Mary's were the hot drink as over 10 customers were drinking them. When we asked about them they said they make their own bloody Mary mix. The Turkey club sandwich was absolutely huge. The portions were well above average. French fries were just overflowing. A great local dining experience!

  • Jimmy V.

Overrated and overpriced. Lousy service. Being a waitress or a short order cook isn't rocket science, but you wouldn't know it if you came into Tank's and they are even a little busy. Incompetence at every level is on full display here. Amateur hour. Sports on lots of big TVs designed to attract retarded asshole clientele.

This places reminds you of a classic neighborhood pub. Great burgers, amazing fries, good beer selection! The Tuesday night special is so good I once came to Tank's three weeks in a row.

It's a Monday night. I'm 5 months pregnant and 500 miles from home visiting my husbands family. He wants Chipotle. I don't, but being a loving woman, compromise and get it with him. However, after not eating for 10 hours and being ravenous, when my first bite of Chipotle makes me want to vomit, I begin to ugly cry. He promises to pick me up anything I want. After being recommended to eat at Tank's all week, I look up their menu and give them a call. Lori's Veggie Burger with Bacon added, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and mayo with fries. Let me tell you, within 20 minutes I was the happiest pregnant woman on this side of Dayton. Tank's did an amazing job of packing all the things that would make the food soggy on the side. The pickle spear was under the wrapping, away from the burger. The mayo and pickle slices were in separate side containers. The portion of fries are massive and they even included wet wipes. Thank you Tank's for saving my husband from a night of listening to me cry about how hungry I am, and how much I hate Chipotle.

Been to tanks a couple times but this past time was the worst. Got the Italian sausage and it wasn't cooked at all... Luckily the waitress agreed but she didn't come back for 30 minutes so by that time everyone was ready to go so I just got it taken off the bill. Just get the burger when you go. Its pretty average but you won't regret it.

A staple as far as "really good bar food". Wide selection. Good prices. Parking is so so. Staff are friendly and quick with menu selection.

Stopped in here for a beer and to just check out the place. It's a casual neighborhood place. From what I gather it's mainly locals and UD students who come here. The bad and the good: The bad: Parking is not great. There's a small lot out back. Can you park across the street? Hmmm. Don't know, so I didn't chance it. Next time I'll ask. The good: The bartender was really nice. Seems to have the same taste in beer that I do so I arbitrarily gave them an extra half point for that. The bartender said the breakfasts were their best food feature. The Biscuits and Gravy look mighty tempting. Other than that, they have the usual burgers and basic bar food type menu. My Guinness Black Lager was $3.75, so prices are moderate. I've still got this place bookmarked so I can come back again to check out some of their food.

not sure why this was ever voted the best place for burgers. pretty crappy food in general. nice atmosphere.

I have yet to be disappointed. Love the food and staff this place has it all. Good burgers, good pizza, and good everything. If you're in the area don't miss out. I suggest the burgers and the turkey sandwiches are so good you'll blast off to the moon!

    (5)
  • Lorraine J.

The pizza is pretty good but does not live up to it's comfy old school ambiance. We ordered a pepperoni pizza that was by all measures ordinary. The fried green beans are we're tasty but the portion was undersized ( we only got seven). In general, a good place to eat but not worth a special trip.

A friend of mine suggested Tank's for breakfast last weekend. Tanks breakfast absolutely kills it. You will not leave hungry.

We went there on a Sunday with a group of 12. I got there a few minutes early to get some tables...no one was there. As I was moving a few tables around the bartender just says, "Is your group for 20?" I said, "no...12"...and that was the end to that conversation. We were then greeted 5 minutes later by a waitress who didn't smile once and brought out our pitchers of beer but did not follow up with glasses for a few minutes. I think they were just hoping for a "slow" Sunday. Recognizing the bad vibe we decided to just leave. A person in our group got a couple plastic sauce cups full of peanuts from the bar and a different waitress came over and said they needed a credit card for the peanuts and it would be $3.22! I think we just came at the wrong time on a Sunday when the staff was hungover. But when spending money at bars, I prefer to at least get some decent service. too much local competition for them to get my money again.

Best. Bar food. Ever. To me, breakfast at a bar doesn't actually sound like it would work, but Tank's has mastered the concept. Amazing and HUGE portions of all the breakfast classics, and you can get a fruity mimosa or bloody mary to complete the meal. Fair prices for huge serving sizes. Go with the girlie size, unless you're planning on sharing with your friends. The staff is also great. Never been here during regular bar hours, but I hear good things.

    (5)
  • Lisa L.

Hidden gem!! VERY GOOD food, even though they overcooked my steak, sent it back it was decent, could use some spices like salt or butter with some pepper to add some flavor otherwise the taters were the bomb, it was a tad on the expensive side but we did have 6 people..

    (4)
  • Patrick B.

I'm typically a regular to Tank's because I'm local to the neighborhood, but in the last few months, I've noticed the price for everything has gone up by about $3 and the quality of food has gone down a lot. On Friday (2/22/2013) I went with a friend of mine and while I ordered a medium rare cheeseburger, it was rare. That didn't bother me too much. I can eat it. However my friend ordered a medium and also got rare. I told him to have them cook it some more but we couldn't get our waitress even though it wasn't busy for a Friday night (there were tables empty which is unusual). We finally got the waitress to come and give us our checks and she did give him the meal free, even though he did have a soda and ate the fries, but this is the third bad experience I have had, recently, or for friends who were with me. A few weeks ago we went for lunch around 11 and my co-worker ordered breakfast, as did I. It took us 45 minutes to get our meal and her food was cold. It also took an additional 10 minutes for them to remember to bring out her toast.

Before I left southwest Ohio for good, I totally went to Tank's for brunch. By "brunch," I mean as it soon as it opened at 7 AM on a on miserable rainy morning. Driving to Tank's that morning was incredibly symbolic of my last days in a dying Rust Belt state in a dead Rust Belt city. Even as I embraced the inevitably of my departure, I still think fondly of my brief time at Tank's. I *totally* want to go back. My breakfast--something with eggs and biscuits smothered in sausage gravy--was delectable. The staff treated me like I was a regular. The customers, of whom many at 7 am were chugging beers were just as friendly. I imagine had I been there the night before the chances I'd hook up with a bi-curious frat boy would be good. Alternatively But it's not my place anymore, and that's OK. If one experience is as memorable as my humble time there, I imagine it's pretty rad.

Tanks!!! This is the best bar in Dayton. I know everyone goes here for brunch or whatever. I go here with my fam or friends to chill out, kick back, and have a drink. It's always has a small crowd but is never that crazy busy or loud, you can always get a table, and they have good service and good prices for drinks. A+.

  • Andrew S.

I know this is a Dayton gem to some, espeically the students at UD. I just dont understand the hype. The parking lot was terrible, the fries were terrible, the prices were not that great either! I am all about supporting local buisness, but Tanks isn't where I can spend my money. Too much hype isn't always a good thing. I will say though, the service was good. If i was just drinking here, it may have been different.

Great omelets! (I got the girlie). Great ambiance inside. We sat at the bar and enjoyed people watching. Loads of people in and out quickly!

I wish I could transplant this place to California. Came to Dayton on a business trip and we found this place from a guide in our hotel. Very kind wait staff, amazing menu and very reasonable priced. The food was just what we were looking for, simple, great tasting, pub food. We liked it so much we went back on our second night.

Conclusion: Overrated for breakfast, but not too shabby. I came here to eat breakfast with my friend that lives in Dayton several months ago. I'm a little behind of some of my reviews. He set a high standard by informing me that it would be incredible and that it was one of his favorite breakfast spots in the Dayton area. It is way over hyped. Place was packed around 10:30, but the wait was not bad. Tables were really close, and other customers were eating right next to us. I liked the friendly atmosphere they had going on. It was very inexpensive, but not really that great. I got sausage biscuits and gravy with some eggs and toast on the side. The eggs and toast were normal and what you would expect. The S&G was a let down. White gravy. Very plain tasting and not really bad or good - just in the middle. Because of my high expectations, I was let down. But, its just average for breakfast. I would way rather go to the Muffin Man in the Dayton Area; it blows Tanks out of the water. You'll be very happy choosing MM over Tanks for breakfast, trust me.

Ok, I have to be honest here. I go to Tank's so often that they all know my drink order and most of the staff know me by name. Great bar food, best breakfast in town, by far, and a stellar jukebox. I don't drink but friends who do rave about the beer selection and award winning bloody Mary . Btw, if you drive here from the suburbs to whine about the decor and the neighborhood feel free to stay at Bob Evans where you belong.

One of my favorite places in Dayton! Go for the burger and chili for dinner. If it's breakfast, you can't go wrong, everything on the menu is awesome...the omelets are gigantic!

  • Dominick M.

Went here for breakfast recently, after hearing how great it is. Still wondering why people think its so great. I had the omelet with an assortment of meat and peppers. To start, the service was mediocre and its packed if you have more than 5 people in a party. My omelet consisted of thin, fake-like eggs and topped with three cold slices of swiss cheese. My friend also found a long hair in her sandwich. Ill admit though, some of the meals, like the lumberjack, can be a good bang for your buck. Bottom line, I can get a 10x better meal for a couple extra bucks elsewhere.

This place was my worst experience in visiting Ohio. You walk in and stand by the door while workers walk by you without a hello. Then we had to sit down at a dirty table. A server cleans off our table without a greeting or even a word. Our silverware stuck to the napkins because it still had food on it from the last people that ate off of it. The food came out after an hour. The cheese on my hashbrowns wasn't even melted because of how cold my food was. The eggs had absolutely no flavor. How do you mess up eggs.. Finally got our check for $14, but when she brought it back after running the card, she added items and ran it for $21 without even mentioning it to us. We had to have her remove items that we didn't order to charge us the correct amount. The best part about this place was the moment we got to leave.

I'll always remember graduation day. Brought my family here after I walked, and my mother started freaking out. The atmosphere was drastically below her standards and she was worried that my grandparents would hate it. I told her she could leave but this is where I was eating. The hemming and hawing continued... until the food came out. A flight of reubens stunned my mother's family to silence. I myself had the only meal that can truly sate my hunger: A Tankburger and Fries. Congratulations, Tank's. You're the only place that's ever silenced my mother. :)

I was in the mood for wings today and was told Tank's wings were really good so I decided to give this place one last shot. I've eaten here before so I knew the place was vastly overrated if you dine here sober. Nevertheless, I ordered their wings with original Anchor Bar sauce. The sauce is good but in what seems to be the norm these days, the sauce appears to be applied by an eye dropper. To all places that serve buffalo wings: SAUCE THE GOD DAMN THINGS. As for the wings themselves, completely forgettable and a tad too big. I realize they're deep fried but grease shouldn't pour out of them when you bite into one and there should not be a pool of grease on your plate either. I finished them which I knew was a mistake. I was shitting through a screen door roughly 20 minutes after I left. No bueño.

When you're out and about drinking in Dayton and suddenly get really hungry, this is the place to go. Heck, you could technically start out drinking here. I used to go here from time to time back when I lived in Dayton 5 years ago, and I swear they've only gotten better since then. On the latest excursion, I opted for the chili cheese fries (without onions because I am one of those anti-onion people), and they were outstanding. The portion was huge, and I actually took some home with me, and they warmed up quite well the next morning. I was there with a large group of friends, and everyone's food looked great. The service was awesome and the overall experience was as good as I remembered, such that one can recall anything after a night of drinking.

It pains me to give 1 Star in my review for Tanks. I have eaten here several times and walked away fully satisfied. Tank's generally has a reputation for great food and service. However, I think I found one item on menu that is not filling. At least, not for me. I ordered there Taco Salad. It is served in a small bowl. The inside perimeter of the bowl is lined with 7 nacho chips. (That should hopefully give you an idea on the size of the bowl.) On top of a small bed of lettuce is some room temperature chili, barely melted shredded cheddar cheese, a sprinkling of chopped jalapeños and a small sampling of salsa. I was not only disappointed with quantity of the Taco Salad, I was dissatisfied with the quality also. It is not worth $7.79. The only star that Tank's will receive from me is for the great service I received from Nicole. Tanks needs to replace some of there very worn menus and add a few more at each table.

Best breakfast in Dayton? I don't get it. Nothing special except the dive bar atmosphere. Food was ok. Coffee was not as good. Bathrooms were surprisingly nice (see photo)

  • Glenn W.

There is one simple statement that can sum up everything you need to know about Tank's. Great dive bar...best burgers in Dayton. That's it. What else could you possibly need to know? Oh...you want to know about breakfast? Why would a dive bar in Dayton offer a killer breakfast?! Don't be ridiculous. Wait! What's that? You heard it was great? You heard right my friend. The perfect hangover remedy. You'd never guess it when you walk in, but Tank's is a more than just a place to drink with regular people. Go there. DO IT!!!!

  • Liz H.

I can speak about the breakfast here. It was awesome. Definitely worth the wait to have a fantastic, diner-style breakfast in a bar...a great reminder of why you are craving the greasy diner breakfast in the first place. It is busy though. I went on a Sunday and the place was packed. We ate at the bar, and had really good service. Although when they brought out my meal the potatoes were pretty cold (though still delicious!). I asked the server to warm them up, and she took them back and got me some new ones telling me the ones that i got were the wrong order. The potatoes she came back with (covered in all sorts of stuff), were different and not quite as good as the ones she took back (covered in more stuff), but they were still awesome. And hot this time.

Tank's is one of the places that my husband had to go to while we were in Dayton. We went for lunch on a Weds and there was a pretty good lunch crowd. Roadkill chili did not disapoint my husband.. as good as he remembered. I had the loveseat ("small" order of chili cheese fries) and they were yummy. This was is a fun little bar with good food.

Stopped in this past week for the broasted chicken which was great the last time I was here. That wasn't on the menu. Server told me that I had the wrong menu after I ordered a burger and fries. Don't know if that was sarcasm or the truth. Burger was great but came with a massive amount of twice fried fries. The fries were without any flavor other than burnt grease, and had more crunch than frozen carrot sticks. The server told me that they change the grease on Thursday. Other than that, a normal visit to Tanks.

Went for the first time for breakfast, after the "Walking for Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, and it was wonderful!! I ordered an omelet with a pumpkin spice english muffin and it was delicious!! HUGE serving, so unfortunately I was unable to finish, but believe me, I wanted too!! :)

Tanks is great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Parking sucks sometimes, but oh well. Breakfast is the bomb! The burgers are fantastic!! The fries are great and served in huge portions. The chips are dip are delish. It's quick. It's a fun place. It's always a great experience. Oh, they also do really well with large groups of people. It was such a suprise when I went in with a large group of coworkers (20+), and they were super helpful and fast.

I went here for lunch and got a french dip. This sand which was okay but nothing special and the waitress wasn't very nice or accommodating. Overall this I think this place is hyped up way to much and fails to deliver. The prices do not match the quality of the food you receive. I honestly see no point in returning to Tank's.

Have been to this establishment many times for dinner and drinks, but opted for breakfast recently. At 11am on a Sunday the place was packed and there was a wait. Rumor is that this is normal. My friend and I even had the opportunity to share our dining experience with complete strangers since we had room for 4 at our table and weren't opposed to the company. All 4 of us enjoyed our various menu items and were in agreement that the portions are sharable. My pancake was the size of a dinner plate and every bite was delicious. I also recommend the sausage gravy on the hashbrowns. Delish! Come here with an appetite and a friend to share it with. And even if you don't have a friend to bring with you, you are sure to make new ones at Tanks since I've only had great experiences with the patrons.

THEY SERVE THEIR ENTIRE MENU(Including breakfast)UNTIL 2AM!!!! I'm sorry but besides their awesome beer selection what more do you need to know? Ok, so the area isn't the prettiest but Bravo Foxtrot Delta, I drove from centerville to go here at least once a week after the addiction for their french onion dip set in. A friend lived closer and as our main dining companion the order may as well have been sent before we got there: Basket of chips with french onion dip, and 10 wings with bleu chees for our appetizer. After that there was a pretty excellent rotation of sandwiches that I'd cycle through, including the reuben and a burger being frequent guests to my gastrointestinal tract. The bathrooms are so nice it's sarcastic. I miss Tanks being a regular place having moved from Dayton but fear not! I shall return.

This is easily the best breakfast in town. Nothing fancy, no frills, just amazing food that is always fresh and delicious. Prices are super reasonable and the staff is very friendly. Every time I'm back in Dayton, I'm hitting this place up.

GREAT Chili! Great atmosphere. It's the neighborhood place we all love. If you go, say hi to Tank. Met him for the first time today and feel like I've known him for years. Great Beer selections as well...

Extremely overrated. Poor service, unorganized, not great food (I got a loaded omelette). Go somewhere else for breakfast.

Neighborhood bar and grill. Nice place to get away from the chain restaurants. I tried the reuben sandwich and added the fries instead of chips. The sandwich was good. I would not get the fries again. The were kinda soggy and tasteless. Oh yeah the tvs are way outdated. I could barely make out the scores. Service was really good and friendly.

Wow...I ordered the original wings. Those were the most vile wings I've ever had. I thought Papa John's had "THE" worst wings...no, Tank's takes the win on that!!! The sauce (not the chicken) had a funky smell, too. There is no way I would order ANY food from this place ever again. My advice is beware. The staff was nice, though, the outside is much nicer than inside...just a standard corner, neighborhood bar. Next!

  • Dillon J.

This is a nice little hole in the wall. Food is always good and they have specials during the week. I usually only get one of three things but they have a "My way" grilled cheese and a peanut butter and jelly club! My only knock on the place is, it could be a little cleaner...but then it wouldn't be a hole in the wall would it?

  • David S.

One of the better, non-pretentious, bars in Dayton. Being off the beaten path this one a bit of a hidden gem, but the food is always great and definitely way above the normal bar scene. Drinks are also priced very reasonably and service is always attentive. Looks a bit beat up from the outside, but they've done some remodeling recently so the inside is well taken care of. Would love to come back here when I'm in town again.

Ok, I've been wanting to give Tank's another try since the last time was really bad and seemed to be a fluke, I'm glad I went back! The service was fantastic for a bar, prompt and friendly! There were a few people who helped us out, I like restaurants where you feel like it's a team effort to make sure everyones taken care of, it felt that way here! The food was amazing, I had the Tank's burger and it was perfectly cooked and massive! The fries were very much like the fries you get at five guys, I loved them! My wife had the grilled cheese which came on rye bread and had tons of different cheese, banana peppers, and even some horseradish for a little kick! All in all we really enjoyed ourselves, I would have to agree with other reviewers who have said they have the best burger around, it's pretty awesome! So, if you stayed away from Tank's after reading my last review, check them out, they're pretty darned good! The only reason I didn't give them a full 5 stars was over a few minor things, the menus were a little dirty and sticky and the seating was a little wonky but other than those minor things, I love the place!

This is a dumpy little dive bar but a hidden gem. The food here never disappoints and, as much as I don't care for french fries, I just can't get enough here. Without a doubt, the best ever. Don't forget about the beer selection- if Bud isn't your think they have a fridge filled with microbrews from all over! The time before last, there was smoking and now it's so much better that it's smoke free. The next time I come, I hope to see all plasma TV's!! That will bring this place to a new level and I may never want to leave!

I lived in Dayton about 5 years ago. Never knew this place existed until last week. I went to vist some friends in Ohio. For dinner we went to Tank's. This place has the old bar atmosphere. The food and portions are amazing. I ordered the Tank burger with fries. They load you up with fries, the burger was excellent. My friend was'nt to hungry so he ordered the chips & french onion dip. Looks like they dumped a family size bag of chips in a basket, then over a pint of some amazing dip. Our waitress was friendly. This place is great. Next time I visit Dayton I will be back! It may be a bar, but the food is not crappy bar food!

As far as bar food, this place is as good as it gets!!! I stop by here for lunch, and as far as I'm concerned, the best thing on the menu are the Ruben's. What's sad was I hated Ruben's until I had one of theirs - now I love them. The big issue with that is I can't find any Ruben that stacks up to theirs. Anyway, they have good wings, burgers, beer - and you should try their french onion dip - that is also equally as delicious. I notice they have started serving Pizza's and I'm torn. On one hand, I LOVE pizza, and on the other hand I LOVE Tank's Ruben - I KNOW the Ruben is good, I don't know if the pizza is equal or better than the Ruben, so I always shy away from the pizza. I'm waiting to go there with someone, who will order one, so I can at least see it, and then decide! If your going for lunch - get their early, the fill up fast! Oh yeah, how could I forget they also have the best breakfast in town! Seriously - I'm not kidding. I mean if you like unhealthy stuff, if you like the healthy stuff - stick to first watch stuff.

Tank's knows how to do breakfast. They do it big, and they do it right. Went there with some friends one Saturday morning around 10.00 and there was a wait. Regulars apparently know that you grab a table as soon as one becomes available, even if there are beer bottles and dirty plates still on it (yes, beer bottles on the table at 10 in the morning. It's that sort of place). I had three eggs, sausage (a link AND a patty because it's that sort of place), hashbrowns with onions (cheesy hashbrowns are also an option), and toast for around $8. I think there was an option to add a short stack as well. One of my breakfast companions had a smaller version of my plate and my other friend had the Tanks version of eggs benedict. No complaints from any of us. Recommended.

I came to Tank's with my girl and a few friends this past Saturday night. When we got there the place was packed and there was groups ahead of us waiting but when tables opened up no one moved, there is no host(ess) or anything so it did get a little confusing. Once we finally got a table and found an extra chair our waitress came over and took our drink order. I didn't feel like cutting through the crown to look at the well stocked coolers so I stuck with draft beers all night and while they may not have a ton of beers on draft the ones they had were good. Food order was placed and the food came quickly. I got the bacon, onion & mushroom cheeseburger and boy was it good. I would have given a 5 star review if they would have actually cooked my burger medium like I asked (and why I know I could have sent it back I didn't want to wait and it was still amazing but would have been WAY better if cooked correctly). The fries were amazing and everyone else at the table loved what they got. Our waitress was attentive and even cracked a few jokes with us which I can always appreciate. When our bills came I was shocked that she only charged me for one pitcher of beer instead of 5 individual beers. I'm sure I'll be back to Tank's on another visit to Dayton to see the girl.

I do not understand why they did not rate this for children, my 4 year old grandson LOVES to go to Tank's and have the peanut butter and jelly club sandwich. There are kids in there all the time. I LOVE the food and going there. The price is an unbeatable value for the amount of food that you get and I have not have one thing yet that I did not love (the Rubens are awesome as well as the hot wings). If you want to have a good time with the family, go down to Tank's on a night that they have a Dragon's game and ride the Dragon Wagon for free to the game. They drop you off at the front gate and then take you back to Tank's after the game. We have a blast when we go!!

Finally tried Tanks breakfast after everybody telling me I had to. That it was the best breakfast in town. Disappointment followed. Not really in the food, but in the hype. It's not bad by any means, but from reviews and friends, you would've thought Jesus himself was back in the kitchen doling out flapjacks. This is a solid food joint. The overhyped omelet had some Kraft singles laid on top which was a letdown. And the hash browns... Honestly I can get the same from waffle house. I will go back again and try other offerings, with much more reasonable expectations. I will also say most of my friends experience tanks at a different hour than I did. And I'm sure at 1:00 am it's awesome. To me it's on the same breakfast level as the new version of Golden Nugget.

Based on Yelp's reviews.. we stopped off on our way to North Carolina. Incredibly large portions!!!! the little woman had the Turkey Hot Shot and it was a lot of food. I'd prefer a bit of pepper in the turkey gravy... but since I was stealing it off her plate.. not a lot I could do about it. I had the Tank burger and the side of horseradish was such a GREAT idea.. the burger was HUGE and cooked just right for me.. a little rare. The fries were great too. All four of us staggered from the place in a food driven coma for about $40 not including tip. thanks Yelp.. for putting me on to the this place. I love a good burger and Tanks was RIGHT up there with the very best I've ever had. As an added bonus, U of Dayton was beating the Tar Heels in a basketball game! SWEET!!!!!!!

Tanks offers an wide selection of beers on tap, and their batter fried vegetables are a must! Zucchini is my favorite.. This is a popular spot for groups of people to hang out over a good beer or three. My only complaints are that its really bright for a bar and that the layout of the place is just a big open box.. There's really no sense of privacy or and its really just one room. BUT, good news- Tanks is expanding! So maybe in a little time, this will be an even better spot!

I went to UD, so I have to be a fan :D They have a fairly decent beer import selection. Normal bar food, but they have a Saturday/Sunday breakfast that is pretty good (something that is a little out of the ordinary for a bar to offer). My bucket list still includes to take the Tanks bus to one of the UD basketball games...

Before we stepped into the door, my man friend had already scoped out his brunch feast....he looked at me and said "They have this thing called the Gambler...I'm going for it!" I could only imagine with a Kenny Rogers-esque description, that it would have to be nothing less than trouble. With two plates piled high with an eggnormous omelet, delicious hashbrowns covered in cheese, double stack of pancakes fit for a lumberjack, bacon and a piece of french toast...juuuuuust in case you didn't have enough to eat. After just looking at the description of the Gambler, I opted for the meager Hockey Puck....aka bacon, egg and cheese biscuit...as I knew he would need some help making a dent in his buffet for one. The food was delicious, with the exception of the french toast...maybe they do things differently up in Ohio, but it was a bit too eggy and I didn't even get a hint of cinnamon. The bacon had a hint of maple, which I love....and the coffee came out in a carafe! For two coffee fiends like us, that wins bonus points.

I don't see what all the hype is about. Everything from the decor to the food was just average for me. They had a decent selection on tap, I had a Yuengling (can't go wrong with that). I ordered a cheeseburger with fries, my boyfriend ordered the grilled cheese with chips. They were both pleasantly average, there's not much more I can say than that. The place was packed, but we were still able to find a table (seat yourself), the waitress was friendly and quick.

I love Tanks. I reallly do. They never let me down and have a great veggie burger. Service is informal, prompt and i've never once had an order messed up. The kitchen is open late, like WAY late (1 amish I think). It's a seat yourself and hang out kinda place with a juke box which is nice. The crowd is a real mix. Sometimes hipsters, emts and medical professionals, families etc. It really depends on when you come. Either way I would defnately suggest anyone try it that hasn't already.

An excellent local watering hole and eating place. Breakfasts are awesome: The Gambler (3 egg omlet, 2 pancakes, one slab TX toast, bacon and hash browns = $8.95; most expensive dish on menu). Lunches are great: Tanks Burger ($5.25) highly recommended. Staff and beer selection are first class. If you are a beer enthusiast, open up a beer Passport and after drinking one each of some 45 different bottled beers, take home a free long-sleeved Tanks "Beer Around the World" T-shirt. Wonderful!

Stopped in for lunch today; it had been awhile and the place had some renovations done since my last visit. New kitchen and some more seating as well as updated restrooms...it's all good. My burger and fries were wonderful as usual. Now if they could fill some of the massive holes in their parking lot.......

I'm not Sure if I could imagine a better priced and delicious breakfast for your money. There is nothing that can beat an eight egg omelet for 4.50. You can stuff this thing with what ever toppings you want all for a flat price. With plenty of seating if you get there early on the weekends, a great selection of beer on tap ( they open at 8am) and a friendly wait staff, there really is other place that even comes close to breakfast close to UD. I would highly recommend this place

Tank's rocks ass. They serve food till last call, and it's awesome bar food, with generous portions, and very reasonable prices. They have a big bottled beer selection, and about a dozen taps, a few of which are always something good. Service is good too. Now stay the fuck away, this is MY bar and it's getting too crowded.

Tanks is a frequent haunt, if for no other reason than the great food. Portion size is a amazing, and everything tastes great. Pitchers of beer are a very reasonable price. At times the draft selection can leave something to be desired though. Parking across the street, and behind the building is usually ample, but you can park on the side street as well. Also, due to the great food, it is becoming common for many to bring their family, kids and all, for lunch or early dinner. The dining room can become extremely crowded when it's dinner time :)

Excellent bottled beer selection. Decent draft selection (usual suspects plus one or two good beers). Best bar food in Dayton. Breakfast/Brunch at Tank's is legendary. You can't go wrong. Huge portions at inexpensive prices. Comfortable and friendly bar and grill atmosphere with good service.

If you're looking for a dive bar in Dayton, Tanks is your place! Stopped there on a friend's suggestion when visiting Dayton. There was a bus that took us right from Third Fifth Field to the bar (following a Dragons game). Food at the bar was good, nothing exceptional. Waitress was extremely nice and attentive.

Stopped by this hole in the wall place at Yelp's recommendation and was not disappointed! Good American eats here. Meatball sub was very good. The marinara sauce was smooth and tasty, the meatballs were okay, and I had literally a pound of melted mozzarella on top. My wife enjoyed her bowl of chili, the beer selection was great, the service was fine and their prices are very reasonable.

I'll be quick.. Food is EXCELLENT (especially when ur drinking). Bar selection is great. Bartenders are helpful, quick, and fun. This place might look like a dive bar but once you go inside, you'll feel as comfortable as ever. One of Daytons main bars!! ..btw, pizza is really good

Went here for dinner and it was just ok. I had the BLT which was decent, but it is really hard to mess up a BLT. The staff didn't seem particularly interested in doing anything, which seems to be a common complaint. I felt a tinge claustrophobic as the tables were a bit crowded together. The parking situation wasn't that great either and considering how far it is from the university, I think there are better places closer. Everything was reasonably priced on the plus side.

  • Pete S.

My fiance and I had read that Tank's had the best breakfast in Dayton, so we had to check it out. It was crowded and you have to be paying attention to find a seat, but the effort was well worth it. Our waitress was very friendly and welcoming. The omelets come in two sizes (a bit hit with my fiance) and the pancakes were excellent griddle cakes. Finding parking can be a challenge, but the food is well worth it. We will be back.

My first time at Tank's was 3.5 years ago on a first date and I've frequented this place since. It's a great place to enjoy premium import and domestic beers, eat good food and relax with friends. The crowd is always a mix of young and old, and I've never had any food that was't great. I especially recommend the french onion dip with their chips. I'm almost positive the dip is homemade - it's better than any french onion dip you can buy at the store! And if you plan on coming back, start a card for the "Beers Around the World" - once you drink one of each of the 30ish beers on the card you get a good-looking long-sleeve shirt. Oh and their breakfast is amazing! Expect to wait for a table Sat and Sun mornings.

everything i've eaten at tanks has been delicious (besides the bland salads). they have a large beer selection, probably one of the biggest around dayton i'd say. there is always at least one creeper inside who will make it a point to come up and talk to you, which gets awkward, but the bartenders usually check on you to ask if you're ok. the roadkill chili is amazing. french onion dip is homemade and also amazing. plus i can walk here from my house, which makes me love it even more

First visit was this morning (Saturday) for breakfast. Wow, what a deal! I sat at the bar so I got a good look at how they made their mimosas and bloody marys. I didn't have any but they looked great. Food was great and, considering the portion size, a great value too. I'm looking forward to checking them out for lunch, dinner, or just drinks.

Really guys? Was I just here on an off day or something? The waitress was completely inattentive the entire time I was there even though it was quite empty. I got a Stella on draft (mmmmm) and a cheeseburger medium-rare with fries - the infamous fries!!! the burger was dropped by in a timely manner and when I cut into it, it was well done. Not even a hint of pink. I waited a bit for the waitress to come by to check on me so I could get it medium rare but... she never did and didn't seem to have any intention to. I tried flagging her down from across the room even, but I guess she was too wrapped up in conversation with the bartender to be bothered. It tasted like a generic burger that you could get at any of those chains like applebee's or chile's. and the fries? I guess no one else around here serves their fries well done then? They were fine, but nothing extraordinary - just seemed like a normal order of hot fries. I love me some breakfast though, so I think I would still go back to try that, but not lunch/dinner. honestly, the music from pee-wee's big adventure that was playing in the kitchen knocks this place up a star for me.

Good tap selection of some popular micros like Bells, Guiness & Bass. Excellent bottled micro selection & respectable bottled import choices. Probably the best fries in Dayton. Great place for breakfast, serving beers & mimosas.

  • rebecca b.

Decent service, good casual fare - I rated them with a 4 star because I like the staff and the atmosphere, and when I give them my list of allergies, they take it back to the cook, consider all the ingredients I can't eat, then make me something I can. That is enough to get 4 stars (I'm allergic to soy, wheat, citrus, corn, dairy and egg.), but they also have a good selection of beer: cheap for beer swillers, independent for beer snobs and a spectrum of beer quality in between. Go to Tank's and enjoy!

    (4)
  • Jen A.

Tank's is classic. It doesn't matter what time of day (or night) you go, there's something for you. If it's morning, get breakfast. You won't regret it for a second - it's greasy, it's delicious, and it's cheap. If it's later in the day, try the rest of the menu (again, you won't be disappointed). The bar is well stocked, there's almost always a game on tv, and it's a really great place to kick back and hang out with friends. It's far enough away from the UD campus that it's not overrun with rowdy college kids like the Brown St. bars, but it's still within decent walking distance. Seriously, though. Try the breakfast.

    (5)
  • Chris S.

If you are looking to get stuffed, Tank's is the place for you in Dayton. The wife and I each had a fairly good-size burger with sides of fries. Now when I say sides, what I mean, in Tank's terms, is about 5 large potatoes worth each. It's a lot of fries! Next time, one of us will get the burger ala carte and the other order the fries. Three could probably split them. What I am saying is, it's a lot of fries. The state of Idaho is putting us on their Christmas card list. OK, now that we have that settled, I also had the Road Kill chili. I prefer my own, but it is a decent chili. Better than that Skyline swill, that's for sure. Lots of meat and beans, but a little rich. Plus, they only had Tabasco. When are restaurants going to realize that Tabasco sucks! There are soooooo many better hot sauces out there. Hell, give me some Cholula or Shriricha or Tapatio. I'll even have some Louisiana. Anything but Tabasco. Excellent beer selection. They even had Erdinger, my favorite heffe, in a bottle. Good selection of taps, too! I've also had breakfast here. Nothing special, but same deal. You get a lot! Beware though because I have to agree with tim w.'s review. Their coffee sucks for some reason. Tasteless with NO kick. Bottom line, Tank's is going to give you a buttload of food for a very decent price. Bring your feedbag! Peace!

Tanks is a great place for good food and cheap drinks. I've been to tanks a handful of times and whether I was there for a late breakfast (served until 1PM) or cheap beers with friends. Tanks never disappoints. This place defiantly has a great local feel to it (a mix of families, college students, and old men) The décor includes a couple of tvs playing ESPN, a couple old arcade games and a pinball machine. They recently completed a much needed expansion of the restaurant area, which added more seating and an improved bathroom. All and all Tanks is a great place to grab good food and share a good beer.

Best breakfast in the city. It's likely that you'll have to deal with some UD students in the early morning. If you value your health, the girlie dishes are the way to go

Tanks is a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you want a sure fire fill ya up lunch try either the beef or turkey hotshot. M, W and F for the Beef Hotshot or T and Th for the Turkey Hotshot. What is a hotshot? It's a hot beef or turkey sandwich, with two scoops of mashed potatoes all covered with a rich gravy. The other sandwiches, soups or burgers are GREAT. Stop by and enjoy. You won't regret it

    (4)
  • John M.

If you're looking for a tasty brew and some of the best bar food in town look no further. Nothing fancy, just good food and a huge variety of beer. Breakfast is not gourmet, but cheap and a lot of bang for your buck. The "girlie" omelets are too big, so you can imagine the regular ones. The fries are very good, although every now and again you'll get a so-so batch, usually if they've sat around a bit. Fresh fries are great though, and they have a veggie burger and a "my way" grilled cheese with the works that will satisfy the herbivores out there. Decent place to watch sports, hang out with friends, or have breakfast. Beware that after 10am on Saturdays or Sundays you're guaranteed a wait.
