Personally, I go to Don Pablo's for the drinks...not food. Don's is more tex-mex and I am a fan of the traditional mexican dish. Don's has a very cool, casual atmosphere and is a great place to belly up to the bar & drink until you can't see straight.

I'll start with the positives. - I've eaten at this Don Pablos a number of times throughout my life and not once have I had food poisoning. - they have a bar upstairs that is a great place to go to sit with a friend and hang out. look at the Christmas lights. have a almost descent margarita from very friendly bartenders. -chips -salsa -clean bathrooms playing Camera Obscura while you wash up. -a fountain and open feeling to the dining room. and now the negatives. -the food. its unfortunately rather ordinary and lacking in flavor. my conclusion. Its probably a good place to take your family if you want to take that one step up from heading to taco bell and/or a place to go to have a drink upstairs with free chips and salsa. this particular review was designed to be useful, possibly cool, but really lacking in funny.

Salsa tasted like Kroger's and the rest of our meal seemed like it was frozen food.. I would not got back. For several dollars less per dish you could get better food at any neighborhood Mexican joint.

Absolutely the worst food we have been served in tears. Our trainer server's mentor was awesome. They will. Lose within six months of Chevys opening.

After arriving in Dayton for a business trip, I contemplated where I would go for diner. There was a Mexican place, Don Pablos, not too far from the hotel. I'm always up for Mexican although always a bit leery of chains. That said, it was close and it was getting late. I travel a fair amount and am generally fairly open minded when I go out to eat. I don't remember the last time I had such a disappointing meal. I unraveled the silverware from the napkin and their was a hint of food still on the fork. The plates looked as though they were pulled from the dishwasher half way through the cycle. The salsa, if you call in that, had the thickness and consistency of watered down ketchup. The server asked me if I would like the guacamole with my fajitas, it was fifty cents extra, I said yes. They brought a side of guac that was literally the size of a quarter. Note to self, if your instincts even begin to say, "do you think this place is OK", pick another place to eat.

Went to Don Pablos for dinner and our waiter Stephan was great. He's was on point about refills and was quick to take our order. He also had great friendly banter about the OSU Michigan game that we all enjoyed. Warning for first timers, the food is pretty spicy so if you do not enjoy spicy food you might want to ask your waiter how spicy the food is. The food is great regardless. I had the pork tacos and the sauce was pretty spicy but water can fix that! I would recommend going again and I will be a repeat customer.

Extraordinarily slow service, mediocre food and dirty booths. Three strike, you're out!

Ugh.. where do I start? I mean, I already hated this place because of the do not park here signs. Dammit, I will park here when I go to Panera Bread! But really, that's the only thing this restaurant is good for.... as overflow parking for Panera Bread. Regardless, I went with an open mind. When we arrived, the place was packed, which surpried me. We waited for about 20 minutes for a table which is acceptable for a Friday night. I ordered the white sangria which was okay and tasted like Dita liquor... which to me is a good thing. The chips and salsa were an afterthought, but hey they are free. I ordered the grilled fish tacos.... Holy pepper overload. Completely inedible. Service was good and our waitress was attentive. Place was dead by 9PM. Probably not coming back. Stick with Abuelo's... which is funny because Abuelo's is a terrible TexMex restaurant, but it's better than here. lol!

Hubby and I went to Don Pablo's for lunch. The service was good, everything else was meh. The restaurant was really, really noisy. I mean really noisy. The food was bland. Even the salsa tasted more like marinara sauce than salsa. My food was tepid, not hot. Visually and taste-wise, the food was completely bleah. For the price, the portions were very skimpy. I could have been more excited about eating cardboard. Hubby was equally unimpressed with his meal. We will not be going back.

I wish I would have read the yelp reviews before eating at this Don Pablos the other night. My boyfriend and I stopped in here after an evening of shopping. I was craving mexican food and we both agreed that Don Pablos had pretty decent food. At least, it used to. Not so much these days. The service was phenomenal. I'd give the service 5 stars any day of the week. The hostess was super nice and cleared a booth for us when we requested one. Our server was just as nice. She kept checking up on us, offering refills, asking if we needed anything. I wish I remembered her name because she was actually one of the nicest waitresses I've come across in recent years. But the food. Oy vey. It was not good. I ordered a "create your own" combo. I had two spicy beef tacos, rice, and the chile mashed potatoes. The beef was not spicy. The tacos were incredibly bland - the tortillas tasted like paper. The rice was crunchy and completely inedible. The mashed potatoes were okay but nothing I'd order again. The chips and guacamole were pretty good. Not the best by any means but decent enough. The salsa was gross. Hardly any flavor and super watery. Probably the best part of my meal was the diet coke that I ordered. For half the price, we could have gone to just about any other Mexican restaurant and had MUCH better food. Very disappointed.

Ate dinner here tonight and found the service and food above average. We were sat right away; drink and appetizer order was taken within just a couple of minutes. Appetizer came out quick and dinner wasn't far behind. All our food was as ordered and was good. Our water glasses and chip basket remained full without asking. One thing I have found from previous visits is that we received better service when sitting on the main floor dinning area and not upstairs.

What a positively unmemorable place with bland food. The salsa tasted like it was out of a bottle from my fridge. Absolutely nothing interesting about the food or the place. Dayton is not exactly the greatest place for Mexican food, but you can do better than this place just about anywhere.

After getting food poisoning from the chicken enchiladas a few years back and hearing that the health department closed them down twice in a year, I choose other Beavercreek dining places to spend my money.

Ok....seriosuly, what's wrong with everyone in Ohio not hearing of yelp? I'm like the first to write sooooo many review on yelp in Ohio! I like this place. They sometimes seem like they could use some more business some come of people! I have never had a bad experience here and I have been here many many times! Yummy cheeeeeeese enchiladas!!

Just finished dinner here with my wife and son. For the most part Don Pablo's is a standard run of the mill Mexican food chain. Our server was polite and cheerful and always on the spot, out entrees came out in a reasonable amount of time and the prices are about right for the quality of food. If your looking for a quick dinner and crave some so so Mexican food then this place is for you! If you are expecting authentic, or high quality food fare, look else ware.

Had a lunch date, and when we checked in the said they'd take us upstairs. I should have protested...upstairs never seems to work out for me. But I didn't want to start on a negative, so up we went. I'm not kidding...it was like walking into an oven. I'm like OMG, and asked my friend if he was hot. They take us to a booth right next to the only other occupied booth, and it's an "older" couple that look like they need to get a room. I don't want to watch that, so I jumped into the booth with my back to them, and told my friend he could have the view! The server appears and I said "it's really hot" and he said he'd been waiting for someone to say that so he could crack the door. He would have done it before the restaurant opened but "he was running late." Sigh. Other than that no issues with service. Food is always good, but an Americanized version of Mexican. More so than other Dayton Mexican joints. I had a rice bowl (think Chipotle) and my friend had a really good looking burrito - filled with beef and covered in chili. Decent meal costing only $25 with a beer apiece. Next time I'm getting he burrito.

Don Pablo's used to be great!!! It has really gone down hill. The bathrooms are filthy & the service is only good 1/4 of the time. The restaurant is not kept up at all. The food still tastes good but that's it.

There's GOOD news and BAD news in this review.... Starting with the bad, this once reasonably good chain has slid so far down hill that the few that remain will probably go the way of Chi Chi's before too long. The night began, surprisingly, with absolutely NO WAIT for a table on a Saturday night (!!) and continued with sub-par service, including multiple servers just walking by and looking at our table for at least 10-15 min. before we were even served chips and asked about our drink order, and finishing (?) with the m.i.a. waitress suddenly returning when we were less than half-way done to ask (no lie!) "you don't want dessert, do you? Are you ready for your check??" Top that off with the mediocre at best entrees (my fish tacos were mush, and the Mr's combo was a jumble of unidentifiable, cheese and salsa drowned "something or others" no self respecting Mexican would even be able to recognize....)and were ready to go. This used to be one of the better chains, and while no one would believe that Don P's was anything close to "real" Mexican, at least it was a reasonably good place for halfway decent Tex-Mex. It's easy to see management/staffing problems from a mile away... When our order was finally taken, a confused waiter (not ours) brought a tray with four piping hot meals not five minutes later, and it took a bit of time convincing him that these weren't our meals. The place was barely half full, and although there WAS a large party was finishing up in the separate party room, there was absolutely no reason for the rest of the restaurant to be ignored. Someone who MIGHT have been the manager walked around a bit, but the whole place felt sort of helter-skelter to me... Now the GOOD news... My Mr. M&P is also Mr. Loyal to all Chain Restaurants everywhere, and even HE admits that this was a lousy choice, and that his (former) favorite hovers dangerously close to a DNR order!!!! I/we are not really very picky eaters or customers, and it's sad to see that this once reasonably good place has slipped so badly. If ANYONE chooses this place over the many EXCELLENT local choices for Mexican food in the area, they pretty much deserve what they get... NO MUCHO!!

Decided to make the trek from Columbus to Dayton to try some memories from years ago to when Don Pablo's was a plenty...and as we found out, better. The atmosphere was just like we remembered, but the food just wasn't....the service was on par with the food. Going to Ben and Jerry's after made the trip worth it though!

Went to Don Pablo's tonight and as always it was a great experience. They have unlimited chips and salsa which is amazing and of course we ordered the queso blanco dip as our appetizer. Out of all the Mexican places I go to they have my favorite queso blanco dip. Our family downs the first round of salsa and queso very quickly. I usually get more Mexican rather than Tex-mex but this time I tried more of a tex mex meal and ordered the buffalo chicken tacos with French fries and retried beans. They were delicious! My only word of advice is if you know you're going to eat a lot of chips and dip (like me) then definitely order a smaller meal because the chips and salsa fill you up! The only downside to the place is they don't have a great a la carte menu like most Mexican restaurants do I hope I can go back soon!!!

We are from Columbus, where all of the Don Pablos have been closed down. My husband and I used to live across the street from one, and when we first started dating it was our "regular" spot for drinks and dinner. We loved their enchiladas and just about all of their other food! We were heartbroken when the last one closed. We were in the Dayton area last weekend for a family reunion and upon a quick Yelp search to find somewhere to eat in the area, we were both floored to see there was still a Don Pablos open! We mainly went in for a taste of nostalgia. The interior of this one looked exactly like the interior of the Sawmill Road, Dublin location. After being greeted, there seemed to be some sort of confusion as to where to seat us, since we asked for a booth. We were one of maybe 12 other people in the restaurant and there appeared to be several booths open. After a few minutes of watching the hostesses and a server dashing back and forth and telling us they had to clean something off, we told them we'd be happy to sit upstairs in the Cantina. Our server was prompt, although lacked any sort of personality. We tried to crack a few jokes and he was completely unresponsive and simply stated he'd be right back with some drinks... Alrighty! The food was hot and decent. But we both agreed we didn't think it was as good as we remembered. We remembered the salsa being the best we'd ever had and the queso blanco being so unbelievable... and the tortillas didn't seem homemade anymore, they weren't fat and puffy like they used to be. We probably wouldn't go back again. I'd rather cling to the memories of yesteryear, sitting out on the balcony with a margarita at the Lennox Location!

We had a pretty OK meal at Don Pablo's last weekend. We arrived around 6:30 and waited about 10 minutes for a table, no big deal. Our service wasn't good or bad. Our waiter was young, too young to understand that you cannot bring mama's margarita before toddler's juice. No bueno. Once we were able to sit back and relax with our drinks and chips, things were more relaxed and calm. The salsa is certainly "chain restaurant" salsa, its not fresh made like more the non-chains. It's a little disappointing but for some reason, my husband loves Don Pablo's and we still visit occasionally.. Husband ordered something called "Numero Una Favorito," and its pretty amusing to watch a grown man guy say that with a straight face. I ordered portobello fajitas which were moderately good but did not come out sizzling, and OBVI everyone loves that part of fajitas! Typical bland beans and rice rounded out both our meals, nothing to write home about. Marg's were strong and I liked that, but this is still a chain Mexican restaurant. Everything is pretty bland, dishes could be swapped from any Don Pablo's/On the Border/Chili's and no one would notice. The food isn't overly greasy but it is still pretty uninspired and boring. This is a fine place to take visiting relatives or people who are into playing it safe when it comes to dining out. If you enjoy fresher, spicier, more authentic Mexican food, I'd go somewhere else.

I love Mexican food and this place is my new favorite restaurant! Coming from Boston, this place is a step up from anything I've had. Had the beef taco salad with a corona-rita. It's a must! Awesome place.

Well, I've never been a big fan of Don Pablo's but my wife wanted to go there so i decided to give 'em another try. One thing I've found out over the years is that you have to know what to order and this place was no exception. Start by ordering the margarita that doesn't have any sweet and sour mix in it. It's great and is made with lime and powdered sugar instead of the sweet/sour mix. Then stick with things that are made with the freshly made flour tortillas. Fajita's or carnita's are a good option. Stay away from any combo's or special plates that are premade in the kitchen, that's where the bad reviews come from. Anyway, if you order the right thing, even a crappy restuarant can be good. Hope this helps if you find yourself heading to Don Pablo's

Two words. No bueno. First, the good...The service was excellent!! There was a considerable wait but we bypassed that by going upstairs to the bar. We took a seat and were served immediately. The wait staff was so friendly and attentive. Loved all of them! The bad...everything else. First of all, the place was pretty dirty. There were straw wrappers and chips strewn across the floor. They keep their chips in a giant plastic container (before putting it in the warmer)...on the floor. YUCK! I really don't want to eat chips from a box on the floor...especially because the floor was NOT clean! The food was mediocre at best. The tacos had virtually no filling. There was a bit of ground beef and few pieces of lettuce but that was about it. Enchiladas were only ok. My husband had the chimichanga which he said was ok. Nothing was really "good". We had to return the rice be cause it was undercooked and rather crunchy. The second batch was better but still not great. Will we be back? No probably not. I think I prefer taco bell. Why 2 stars and not 1? The service. Sadly wonderful service can't make up for subpar food. Go to El Riacha, it is far superior!

    (2)
  • Adele L.

Great service, good salsa (just slightly spicy), fresh (non greasy) chips. Lunch for us was grilled fish tacos and charro beans, tortilla soup/salad. (It was a lunch "special".) Very satisfactory, although more cheese on the taco salad would have made it super. The portion sizes were large enough to satisfy the average appetite.

  • Lauren W.

We always go to this Don Pablo's when we're in town and we love it! They're buffalo wings are very good! We've never had a bad meal or service here which is why we keep coming back. We've also been to Abuello's down the street and like Don Pablo's wayyy better.

  • Susan M.

This place is ...well...gross. I ordered the Taco salad and the shell was a chewy mess, and the inside was no better. The shredded chicken was sitting in some liquid turning everything into a soggy mess. My husband ordered a steak burrito and he wasn't even able to cut through the tortilla with a knife. And why were the beans in standing water? its just supposed to be beans not soup. BLAH The service was good though too bad their food is bad and way to expensive for the quality

Easily one of the least memorable Mexican joints I've ever been to. I actually stumbled on to it on Yelp list that reminded me to write a review from the last time I was there (3+ years ago). Maybe it's changed? I hope so. I will say it is a decent place to grab a drink.
