Best steak! Yes - its expensive restaurant but when "someone else pays" - you have to go there. The T was excellent steak. Recommended !!

Hands down the best steak I've ever had in my entire life. The menu is "a la carte" so you order your piece of beef and then sides that are served family style. The fillet mignon I ordered was to be medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. If you're looking for a romantic night out or a place to have a nice business dinner, GO TO MITCHELLS.

Many moons ago it was insane. At one time I would have rated this my favorite steak house in the US. Today I would call it a Morton's cookie cutter. The service was great. You expect that though from a place like this. Our waiter R..., was fantastic. Knew the menu, friendly and on top of making sure anything we wanted was taken care of right away. He was the highlight. Drinks were always kept full and delicious. Sides were very good. A complaint I had under previous management from 2004-2008. They were never bad before, but these were better. But you don't come here for the sides. Steak. Ok, this is why you come here. Once upon a time they cooked their steaks at 2200f. Which seared the steak and created this thin crust and was amazingly juicy inside. Honestly I don't know if they still claim to do that, our waiter certainly didn't mention it if they do. If they had claimed that I would call BS. The steak was nothing special. It wasn't bad, just slightly over cooked and dry. Again, it wasn't bad, more than anything I am comparing this to the old kitchen and management. Once upon a time it was run by gods. Now mere mortals. ):

Everything was fantastic! The waiter was very helpful, explained the options of the menu. I was very surprised at the ease of sharing side dishes and salads. Substitutions in the 3 course meal was also easy. we had the tuna appetizer, wedge salad, wife had the scallops and I had the 16oz rib-eye. We shared asparagus. We don't eat in these types of restaurants often so not a lot to compare it to. We definitely want to go back.

We chose Mitchell's for dinner in celebration of my parents' 50th anniversary for a party of 10. They provided us a great table and very friendly service from valet to host to servers to management. We were pleasantly surprised to have personalized menus congratulating my parents - such a wonderful touch! The food was, as usual, outstanding. Most of us ordered steaks, which were all excellent. The scallops entree and all of the cocktails, side dishes, and salads were wonderful as well. There was not one aspect to the service or food that was less than sublime. They even offered my parents complimentary desserts. My parents were so thrilled with the experience..it created a great memory for all of us, too. Thank you, Mitchells.

Love Mitchell's. Never disappointed. I met a friend there yesterday for lunch. The restaurant opens at 11:30, made a reservation for the same time. It always fills up fast at lunch. The whole experience was great as usual. I ordered the chicken special with mashed potatoes and broccoli. My friend ordered the bacon wrapped sirloin. He said it was good!! The service, atmosphere and food are always great. Love that it is two blocks away from my work downtown and I can enjoy at lunch. :)

My wife and I came here on a Saturday night and I was surprised how good the food was. My wife loved the salmon and I ordered the 16 once ribeye that was flavorful cooked perfect. We ordered the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese that were both good. Our waiter provided good service and when we come back to the area we will dine here again.

Went here last night for a work function. We were limited to their $49/person private function menu, so I had their lobster bisque and their 7oz filet mignon with sides of broccoli and mashed potato. The food is good. But it's more like Outback Steakhouse good. A steakhouse that charges $49/person per meal needs to be GREAT, not just good. Yes, I'm being picky-- but when a restaurant charges as much as Mitchell's does, they need to be better. A truly great lobster bisque is made with a whole lobster, the head and brains and all. The lobster bisque here tasted like just cream with pink food coloring and 3 tiny pieces of pre-packaged lobster craw meat thrown in after the fact. I've had better lobster bisque in the buffet line of a Brazilian bbq. Why do I think they use pre-packaged lobster claw meat? Because their lobster dishes all clearly say "Caribbean lobster", which do not have claws. I'm guessing they get their Caribbean lobster as just the tail, and the claw meat comes from elsewhere. The steak was tender and plainly but well seasons with salt and pepper. But aside from the fact that it was likely tenderized via wet aging, it didn't taste any better than a filet that I can buy from Sam's club for $11.99 per pound and grill at home. Also, I ordered my steak medium rare, and it came out medium well. Once again, that would be ok at Outback, but not ok at all at a prime steakhouse. The side of broccoli was basically just pre-cut pre-packaged broccoli that was boiled and served with a side of bernaise sauce. The sauce was good, but the presentation of the broccoli was unacceptable. When you get bulk pre-cut broccoli from wholesale, the broccoli pieces are all cut rather unevenly... some pieces are 3x the size of others. And this is what we got at Mitchell's. I wish they'd cut the broccoli pieces all equally. I ended up getting 1 humongous piece of broccoli on my plate while my dinner companions got 3 smaller pieces. Once again, this might be ok at a cheaper restaurant, but not somewhere like this. The side of mashed potato had the consistency of store bought powdered potato and was flavored with just butter. They didn't even bother to add parsely. Lastly, we ordered cheesecake TO GO, and we were brought warm chocolate melting cake on a plate. When we reiterated that we wanted our dessert to go, the waitress rolled her eyes at us and gave us the same warm chocolate melting cake with vanilla ice cream (already half melted) on top to go. It being 80 degrees outside, the ice cream was completely melted before we even got in our car. Good thing work paid for this dinner, because I would never pay $50 per person for something of this quality on my own.

Mitchell's is a fine restaurant, on par with other mainline prime steakhouses (Ruth's Chris, J. Alexander's, The Chop House, etc.). A good menu of nuanced cocktails, with modern twists on some classic favorites, such as the "New Fashioned," which I had. Food quality is good--what one would expect from a prime steakhouse. Nothing so outrageous that one definitely needs to eat here, but a good steak is always appreciated. The mac & cheese is particularly tasty. The atmosphere makes this place! It's in an old bank downtown, and the modern, almost neo-Deco design is a nice contrast the old, beautiful sculpted plaster ceilings. I'd go back, but more for the atmosphere than for the food.

The bar is tiny and not suitable for enjoying a meal with a glass of wine. The bartender was rude so I moved to a table. The food was just okay - nothing special. Capital Grill or Morton's are much better. Over priced for service, food and atmosphere.

I had dinner here last night because a work vendor was in town. We ordered two appetizers for the six of us: the Pepper Pot Calamari and the Spicy Lobster. The calamari didn't look like calamari. i expected fried rings and legs but it was more like long strips of calamari. It kind of threw me off. I expected some heat since 'Pepper' was in the name but it wasn't hot at all. I'd say it was just ok. Now, the Spicy Lobster is where its at. chunks of lobster fried and then drizzled with some kind of spicy sauce that had a kick. Not sure what was in the sauce but it seemed like siracha mixed with some kind of cream sauce. Next I had a cup of the French Onion Soup. It was alright but had too much wine/brandy/whatever alcohol goes in french onion soup for my taste. But it was hot and had melted cheese so I polished that right off. Entree was the 7oz. Filet Oscar. Steak was cooked exactly like i wanted. Crab and the Bearnaise sauce were excellent and gave the steak more flavor. I think they may have forgotten salt and pepper the steak when it was cooking. I ate the whole thing so either I was really starving or it was better than I'm remembering now. We shared a bunch of different sides amongst our group. We got fries and mashed potatoes, neither of which I tried because they seemed very basic. Green beans were good, would have been even better if there weren't walnuts mixed in but thats just my preference. Mac n Cheese was ok, cheese sauce was a little thin. Best side you can get though is the Jalapeno Scalloped Potatoes. They had everything that is good in this world; potatoes, jalapenos, and melty cheese. If you go, get them. Heck, get 3 of them. Skipped dessert because I was stuffed and no one else was ordering it. Overall, food was OK. Now I can say that I've been but I don't know that it would be my first choice to go to again.

Very nice atmosphere that is mostly formal (but I did see people there in jeans). Our server was awesome, she thoroughly explained specials, menu items & answered our questions making our first experience great. I ordered the ribeye medium & it was cooked perfectly. I highly recommend the corn as a side too.

I was in Columbus for work and staying downtown. The hotel recommended Mitchell's Steak House. I had the most delicious salmon filet ever here! Cooked to perfection! Seasoning was perfect. I spoke with the chef who recommended the sea bass at my next visit. I immediately made a reservation for 3 evenings later. Needless to say the sea bass was absolutely divine! The staff were friendly and very helpful with my specific dietary needs. I will definitely be returning. I may try a steak next time but it is so rare to be served perfect fish.........

Nice place. Great service. Great steaks, sauces, and sides. The 10 oz filets were really good. I got the cognac peppercorn sauce. Go sparingly when using it. Pricey, but we had 5 drinks between the two of us so it was expected.

I had the best steak I ever had here. T bone cooked medium and it was perfect. My girlfriend got filet mignon with fries. The cocktails are great, I got an American mule. Tim was our server and he was great. He introduced himself, paid a lot of attention to us, and was very courteous. We were very please with the service. The interior is beautiful and the background music is classy. There is a lot of ambiance. We enjoyed our time at Mitchell's and we are very excited to go back.

Great restaurant. I've been coming here for years. Since I work less than two blocks away from here, I love to come here for lunch dates with my husband. We usually just sit at the bar so it doesn't feel like such a formal occasion. My favorite thing on their menu (besides the steaks) is their Shellfish Cobb Salad. DELICIOUS. When they were still a Cameron Mitchell restaurant, you could order my favorite drink there, the Grape Crush. It's vodka, fresh grapes, simple syrup, and lime. Heaven in a glass. A bartender might still make it for you if you ask. All in all, I'm still a fan of this place after all these years.

Terrible steak quality. Mitchell should stick to seafood. I'm not sure why people rave about this place. It is overrated.

I've reviewed this restaurant before; it used to be one of my favorites. However, I can't say that after our last meal. Took Mom here for Mother's Day (on Saturday early evening). Started off good; service was efficient and friendly and explained the menu and specials...all fine. Lobster bisque was good, my dining partners' salads seemed good. The trouble came with the entrees. I am perfectly willing to pay $$$ for $$$ food. And I'm not a fool; I've had sea bass before at various restaurants and I've cooked it myself. I am not accusing Mitchell's of ripping me off by serving me a cheaper fish when I ordered sea bass. I am saying the sea bass I was served had a strong fish smell, was cooked unevenly (part was overcooked and part was undercooked), and tasted and looked unlike any sea bass I've ever had before. My dinner companions had similar stories about their entrees. Dad's filet was charcoal on the outside and undercooked on the inside; Mom's scallops were undercooked, and hubby's twin lobster tails smelled fishy and tasted awful. The sides were pedestrian at best. If you're going to charge $7 for mac and cheese, it should at least be cheesy. This was watery. Green beans were OK, nothing special. There are too many good restaurants in Columbus now to justify paying top dollar here. Sorry, but I won't be back.

Service is slow for our party of 10. Presentations were poor. The salad with beets and goat cheese was pleasant. I had ordered the special bone in fillet but almost forgot because of the time it took to get to the table. When it arrived the steak was very rare. I had to send it back where it was recooked to well done. Another half an hour after everyone else was finished my replacement came which was cold in the middle. They offered to take it off the bill so I ended up had broccoli for dinner. Others in the group were pleased with their meals. I was disappointed. For a high end steak house service is poor. The serves never really knew who ordered what.

I went to Mitchell's after it was recommended by a friend who raved about this place. I was really looking forward to a great steak. We arrived and the place was pretty quiet not many people there at the hour we attended was before the dinner rush. Our waitress was very nice and polite. My meal on the other hand was very disappointing and not worth the $50 I spent on my entire meal. I ordered their 3 course meal option starting with their house salad. I ended up not eating most of it due to the amount of brown lettuce I found through out. Next I ordered a medium rare filet. It arrived and smelled pretty wonderful and I was very excited to cut into it. I was very surprised to find my steak *NOT* juicy for a medium rare. My friend who had ordered a steak medium was far juicer than mine. Even though the service was friendly they were extremely slow. I will likely not ever return to "The Best Steakhouse in Columbus".

I'll never say no to steak, especially if someone else is paying. Mitchell's downtown location can be as old school steakhouse or as American nouveau as you want it to be. Everything is so customizable! It's definitely the joint for Old White Guys, and I don't mind joining them for some beef. Choose your cut, choose your sides. I've even come here just for their phenomenal wedge and a glass of pinot grigio-- leave out the steak and Mitchell's is pretty affordable. You'll still get great service in a gorgeous setting. Speaking of leaving out the steak, you vegetarian types may have a little bit of an issue. On my last visit, one member of our party had a little bit of a hard time finding a dish. They seem to have an off-menu daily vegetarian preparation, but it was some kind of bland pasta. They can combine sides into a "platter," but even then, make sure you ask lots of questions! I forget which (seemingly vegetarian) side it was, but it contained veal stock. So, check up on your dish.

We came here for my husband's birthday and it was a memorable dining experience. Mitchell's is the kind of restaurant where you go for a special occasion or when you're trying to impress out of town guests. We had great steaks, great sides and great drinks. Our server was wonderful and not very invasive. This is a great restaurant for an experienced diner.

Top 3 steak I've ever had, best lobster mac & cheese I've ever had Tried out Mitchell's and had a great dining experience. All the food ordered was delicious from the appetizer to the entree and sides. I can only think of 1 steak I would take over the one I had here, it was very good. The lobster mac and cheese was the best I have ever had. If I am downtown and want a steak there is no question; I'm going to Mitchell's.

Top end steak house with all the amenities. This location is now owned by Ruth's Chris; and they know their business. One comment on the staff. On my night the servers were all women. Nothing wrong with that, just an observation. They were trained well enough, but their "seasoning", knowledge of what they were doing, needs some time. If they stay around long enough to have that happen. They presented ok, just young. Steaks and such are priced as you would think. Wine mark-up approaches obscene.

Mitchell's know how to do steaks. They have a great decor and ambiance and it's nice and quiet normally. Great date spot - but make reservations. The calamari was unique and wonderful. This is a traditional steakhouse with a local feel. It's expensive, but a great special occasion place. Also, you might as well valet, because parking could be a problem.

Went on a Monday night and and they were dead. Bar tender was stuck up, acted like he was too busy instead of servicing customers. Steak wasn't tender. Shrimp was even worse, should have known better in a land locked state. I've had better steak meals at chain places, which is why for the price I only give this place 1 star.

Beautiful space, but ultimately my least favorite of the CM suite of restaurants in Columbus. Don't listen to me, though; I haven't enjoyed too many of the steak meals I've had recently, and it's quite possible I simply don't enjoy steak dinners anymore...

Business has never been so sweet! I came here on a business trip to Cbus and wanted to splurge a little. I fell prey to the Lobster Bisque as it came highly recommended. It was good, I have had better but for the location it was very tasty. Seafood just losses it sweetness the further inland you go. For my entree, I believe I had the Chilean sea bass as it is one of my favorite fish. It was perfect. Prepared very similar to the fish at Mallorca in Cleveland, Ohio. That is a good thing. I love Mallorca. I kind of remember the side dishes but nothing grand there. Tasty but not noteworthy. For dessert I had the crème brulee. Ya buddy! That was my favorite part. Very nice glaze and the consistency was perfect. Sometimes you can get that jello like globing but that was not the case here. It was tasty and with fresh berries on the side. Mmmmmm I was very impressed with Mitchell and his steakhouse. High five sir, high five...

Hmm, what to say..My wife and I go to eat here when we have tickets to a show at one of the theaters near by, so we have been 4 times. The food has been consistent with some items good, and some fair. The shrimp cocktail is consistently very good, and the lobster bisque was quite good the time we tried that. The seared ahi tuna was average, my wife stated that versions she had tried other places like Smith and Wolensky were better. We have had the chop salad and spinach salad, and the wedge. All pretty good. For sides we have had the mac and cheese. the mashed potatoes and the fries. I could have done without the mac and cheese as it was unremarkable, but the mashed were good and the fries were even better. The steaks?....they have been ok. For a less expensive restaurant they would have been 'good' for the prices charged at Mitchells, I would expect more. The ability to cook to order seems hit and miss, and a couple of times there has not been a lot of flavor in the meat. Service?...this is my sticking point. We time our reservations so that we will have a nicely paced meal and then walk to the show. Service has been uneven and decisions mystifying. Despite having reservations well in advance (I am talking a month plus each time) we seem to be seated in some of the least desirable tables despite the fact that the place is either almost totally empty or less than 1/3 full. The pace of service is the most inconsistent. You either have noticeable long waits in between service, or you feel rushed, sometimes in the same meal. Last visit went like this: We arrived at 6 to an empty place. Seated at table that was better than the last few we have had. Drink order take immediately, but no drinks come for 15 minutes (bar is completely empty). Food order taken, appetizers take 15 minutes to show up (shrimp are already cooked and tuna is just seared, so what is up?) Then when apps are removed another 10 minutes for salads, followed 60 seconds later by entrees....no joke, I hadn't even put the second fork of salad in my mouth...server says 'oh, sorry, I will take these back and bring them back in 10 minutes. Ok, so do you want your cooked to order steak sitting under a heat lamp in the kitchen for 10-15 minutes after it is done over cooking and drying out? So soon after they were taken away we asked for them back. They should have been tossed and cooked to order again. Timing was staff error, not mine. So we are eating our salads and entrees at the same time and now the server won't leave us alone. Checks multiple times to see if we are done...when there is clearly steak and salad left on 4 plates and we are actively eating.....We continued to get the rush treatment until we left. As if the place was booked and we were holding up waiting customers. When we left, the place was still only 1/3 full, maybe a touch more. All in all, I just have no desire to return, but we have more show in March so we will give it a last try.

Been here twice for the filet. It is simply delicious! This has become a tradition to go to Mitchell's (especially during Restaurant Week) a couple times a year to enjoy great service, food, and atmosphere. I've been to the Mitchell's downtown as well as the Polaris locations. Both are great in terms of service and food. I think I prefer the downtown location mainly due to the ambience and beautiful building (check out the ceiling while you are there).

We went to Mitchell's for our anniversary. When we were seated the table was sprinkled with little hearts and they all congratulated us. Small but really nice touches. We are an LGBT couple and such open acceptance was awesome. The steaks were some of the best we have ever had, the sides were excellent, especially the Jalapeno Potatoes. We ordered a Filet, exceptional, and Ribeye, which was top 5 steaks I've ever had. Both perfectly cooked and tasty. Final punctuation we asked for a Creme Brulee to share and when it came out it was on a platter with Happy Anniversary spelled out in edible chocolate, awesome, oh and the Creme Brulee was really good. All of those great things with the food, but the service was the real star. This was some of the best service we have ever had and I've gone to other high end steakhouses before. Small touches, friendly atmosphere, genuine cheerfulness. For a special event tell them when you make reservations and watch the magic happen.

Yay to restaurant week...even though I found out that Columbus even had one way too late! But not late enough, that I could partake in the deliciousness that is Mitchell's Steakhouse. Made reservations for a Wednesday evening without any problems and had 2 of my lovely coworkers join me for this opportunity - 'cause that's what it was at those prices! Went in, and got seated right away. It's definitely a place for business folks (including us of course). Our server was a lovely lady that is retiring shortly. She recommended some drinks as we waited for #3 to arrive. I had the blueberry Mojito and it was delish! A true winner for those Mojito lovers...and so nice to think tropics during this crazy cold weather. We knew we were doing the restaurant week special, so we didn't even bother discussing the regular menu and got right down to ordering. I had the awesome Micthell's Chop Chop salad - I loved it! Anything that has dates and goat cheese just can't be bad. I also had the filet medium (we all did) and it was more like medium rare, but it was very tasty - one of the girls sent hers back for some more time on the grill. We also had 3 sides and shared...the best thing to do. Corn, cream spinach, mac and cheese - no disappointments here. Everything tasted great and we cleaned our plates. The only thing that was mediocre was the dessert...some kind of cheap tasting chocolate cake, which was a real bummer after such a great meal. I'm guessing they decided to save on that...and it certainly showed. All three of us pretty much left the dessert alone... Overall a good experience and I would go back.

Went for business dinner on recco of a local. Great drinks - check. Great wine list - check. Good steaks- check. Good sides - check. Great service- check. I had a spinach salad, pepper steak and a spud. The other 5 had wedges and Caesars and steak. One hearty soul had dessert. No issues no complaints. If you are fussy about how your meat is cooked and want to get everyone on the same page as to what rare, medium, etc. mean to you, I would suggest you emphasize this when you order and get your meat karma all worked out up front. This is a nice place convenient to downtown hotels and businesses, nice ambience, professional waitrons who even offered us takeout beverages to go.

I'm really not a steakhouse guy, but can appreciate a good one. And I know people here love this one because it was started local or they feel it's still local or whatever, but the reality is that it's not that great. Competing against the other high-end steakhouses, you're going to get better food and probably service elsewhere. Mitchell's relies heavily on their reputation from before these others place were in Columbus. It's more of a status symbol for those who don't know better. S&W and Hyde Park are significantly better at this point.

The service, food, and price are average at best. Would go a couple of blocks away and pay the same or a little more for better food and service. The beet and goat cheese salad was tasty even though ours didnt have any goat cheese. Oysters Rockefeller were decent. After ordering our appetizer, it took our server more than fifteen minutes to come back and take our order and we were her only table. With the other options in the area, we found no reason to go here again.

Classy place. Very romantic atmosphere. Friendly waitstaff. Succulent steaks cooked to absolute perfection and an impressive wine list. The only downside was when I found out it started as a local restaurant, but then sold to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.

Mediocre steak & disinterested wait staff - not worth the price. My wife & I ate here on Saturday, June 2nd and were very disappointed. Although the ambiance & decorations are very nice, the experience was not. Our waitress was serving multiple tables, and from my observation we were her only 2-top, which apparently meant lower-priority. To start with, we ordered a bottle of wine and were promised the customary bread. The wine came promptly but the bread took 15 minutes to arrive. We both ordered filets, but both came over-cooked. My wife requested hers medium, but there was no pink in the steak at all - hardly our definition of medium. Overall this dining experience wasn't awful, but not worth the price. Including wine (before tip) our bill was over $120 for 2 people, and this experience was absolutely not worth that amount. The next time we want to splurge, we'll be visiting Hyde Park.

This is capitol city's power steakhouse, no doubt about it. I found the service to be very good, but the menu to be a bit lacking in inspiration. Sure, there were plenty of cuts of steak to choose from (and that's rightfully priority one in a good steakhouse), but the other choices including sides were pretty bland. Prices run on the higher-than-you'd-expect side, but ironically, I guess that's what you should expect from a place like this. Good place to celebrate a special occasion, or your recent election to governor!

What's wrong with me? Why did it take me 5 years to come here and I work right next door? Oh yeah, cause people complained about it being expensive and I wasn't such a big steak girl in the past. First off the interior is GORGEOUS. None of that cheesy 1970's steak house decor here. It seems art deco-y . The ceilings are high and the molding is perfect. It's not beefy or macho inside, just fine, artsy and interesting as well as upscale. As for the food I had a black and bleu Caesar salad. The meat was cooked perfectly and practically melted in my mouth. Also I noticed that there were ALOT of men here.... Probably a good place for a single lady to hang out at the bar during the evening.

Power lunches are actually affordable. Aside from steak, they have great seafood. I recommend the lobster salad and crab cakes. Steak sandwich and salads are also very good. They also have one of the best lobster bisques in town! Lindey's is still number one for lobster bisque, but this one comes in at a very close second. The decor is exceptional. Be sure to take in the site while you enjoy your meal. Painted murals and a decorative ceiling remain from the bank lobby. The restaurant is in what was once a bank lobby built in the 1920s. Columbus Landmarks Foundation featured the building and old bank president's office (that overlooks the bank lobby) on City Hop in 2011. This bank was the site of many bank robberies because of the easy access to busy 3rd Street. Robbers would jump out of the car, rob the bank and jump back in the car and take off. While restoring the lobby for Mitchell's, workers found bullet holes in the ceiling. How cool is that? Great bar and private tables. Staff are excellent and very attentive. Wine prices, however, are outrageously high! More than triple the retail price! It's an insult to people that know wine, but unfortunately is common among most restaurants. If it was not for the outrageous wine prices, I would have given four stars. I've decided to take a stand and deduct one star from my reviews of places that gouge customers on wine prices; it really is insulting.

Where to begin... First, its important to note that I swore off of "expensive steaks" a few years ago, for the most part, since I rarely find a place that can throw down something better than I can, on my own grill at home. This was proven yet again, when I recently visited Las Vegas (see reviews). Mitchell's makes me look like an amature. Yep. I said it. They're so good that I ate there twice this past week. TWICE! And I'm prolly going to go again this week. The steaks are fantastic, check. What about the rest of it, you might ask? The lobster bisque. Phenomenal. The bowl serving is mighty large so i recommend going with the cup. The creamed spinach. Wholly crap is it good. The crab 'salad' appetizer. YUM. The seared ahi tuna that my friend ate, looked fantastic....I wasn't offered a taste so that tells me it was as good as it looked. So, thats the food. The 'by the glass' wine list is a bit, umm, lame....if we're being honest. The overall decor and feel of the place is quite good, if a bit fancy for a week night's meal but, I can get over that. And the prices. Well, they're about what you'd expect from a proper swanky steak joint in NYC or Chicago - which is to say, pricey for Columbus.

We had a party of 6 for a business dinner. The food was average at best. The service was good. The drinks were good. But nothing about our experience was above average.

We were in Columbus for The Arnold Sports Classic, staying at the Renaissance across the street. I simply can't recommend this restaurant enough. The decor is beautiful- an artsy look with low lighting, pictures of celebrities on the wall, even the restrooms are chic. Great vibe. The service is top notch, they don't miss a beat- timing is impeccable and the waitstaff are friendly but not annoying and in-your-face. The food is fantastic. We tried the calamari appetizer with jalapenos- really different than any calamari I'd ever tried. YUM. I was boring and had a filet, but again, just perfectly cooked and scrumptious. We did not order dessert because all of us were so full, but I have no doubt that the desserts would be out of this world. If you want an amazing steakhouse experience, you really must stop here.

My boyfriend and I came to eat here Sunday night on a whim, seeing as I had never been there and he said it used to be amazing food but hadn't been in a while. We walked in and the ambiance was perfect. I was taken away by how beautiful the space is. Our server was okay- he gave us everything we needed. However, the food start to finish was not even close to being worth the price. We had oysters Rockefeller which were just ok, and the ahi tuna appetizer that honestly just tasted old. Moving on I ordered the filet and lump crab and my boyfriend the strip and shrimp. When our meals arrived they looked cheap and gross- mine was covered in what tasted like miracle whip and a few pieces of shredded (I'm sure canned) crab meat. When I say covered I mean at least a cup of the goop. After I scraped everything off to see my filet it was awful too. Overcooked and stringy. I don't think either of us took more than two bites of our entrees. We both work in the industry so complaining is truly the last thing on our minds but this time our meal couldn't go unlooked. We spoke to the manager, paid our full tab which was $120 and tipped 50% even though our meal had nothing to do with or sever. The quality of food was terrible and this place has gone way down hill. Spend your money at Hyde park or the Top because this place was a complete waste.

Outstanding service and very good food. Since it was across the street from the hotel, my boss said he wanted to treat me to a going away dinner since we won't be working together much longer. We walked in and I said, under my breath, "This is big money here." Dark woods everywhere. White tablecloths. Immaculately dressed wait staff. I saw they had a three course, fixed price menu for 33.00. Salad, entree, side and dessert. You couldn't beat that deal, so we both went for it. Salad: chop chop. Nice assortment of greens, corn kernels, tomatoes, asparagus, goat cheese and a sherry vinaigrette on the side. Entree: filet Mignon. I asked for mine medium well and it was perfect. Nicely salted and peppered with hints of garlic, this was one delicious piece of steak. Side dish: creamed spinach. The best I've had was at Lawry's Prime Rib in Beverly Hills, but Mitchell's version wasn't bad. Certainly not the best--absolutely not the worst--but it was good. I snuck a bite of the mashed potatoes my boss got and *they* were outstanding. Dessert: chocolate lava cake and raspberry sorbet. I was thinking I would only have half of the cake and half of the sorbet. Let me tell you right now I was full of shit. That cake was moist, oozed of liquid chocolate and was rich as hell. So, so, so good. My boss doesn't like chocolate (someone -please- feel his head and check his pulse!), and he ate all of his dessert. Not a doubt in my mind I would return if in town again.

A M A Z I N G !! This is THE model Steakhouse for all Steakhouses ever. Just look at the reviews, they are three's and above. Mitchell's is just flawless. Servers are professional, they glide around the restaurant at a wedding march pace. You don't even realize they were there, but your wine glass is suddenly refilled. Mitchell's really has it perfected, the atmosphere, the architecture, the wine, drink and beer selection, and the food - all perfection! Mitchell's is seriously one of my favorite places in Columbus.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. From the service to the food, this once flagship steakhouse of Carmeron Mitchell is clearly suffering after being purchased by Ruth's Chris. The service was poor from the out right, being tucked in to a tiny booth next to a family with 3 young children despite there being plenty of open tables elswwhere. (admittedly the children turned out to be incredibly well behaved). The waitress was slow and was not knowledgable of the menu. Both my wife's and my steak were good quality but well overcooked. The red wine we ordered also was far too warm, as if it had been sitting in a hot kitchen, not a proper wine cabinet. The Bernaise sauce was the worst I've had anywhere, including the powder mix you can purchase at the grocery, It tasted like and had the consistency of hellman's mayo mixed with tarragon, just awful. For the pricxe of the meal, I feel that Outback or Ponderosa could have delivered better value. We used to come here a few times per year but unfrotunately it will defintiely be removed from our rotation.

Being born and raised in Manhattan and loving a good Manhattan with a steak brought me to Mitchell's and I really enjoyed it. I was invited with some business colleagues and we all thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The service was attentive but not clingy. I enjoyed a the Gorgonzola rib eye as did a few others. The cut was excellent and the steak was dressed and presented so nicely that I thought about looking at it for a few more seconds before plunging my fork into it but refrained. I love how the rib eye has some fat and juice to it. If I wanted lean I'd order a chicken breast but this is a steakhouse and if you order chicken here you should be ashamed. You are practically ordering off of the menu! Sides were creamed spinach (great), scalloped jalapeno potatoes (great), lobster mac (I thought kind of gimmicky) and wild mushroom saute (very nice as well). A couple of makers mark Manhattan's washed it all down nicely and I left with a wonderful meal under my belt.

I will start by saying the food was very good. I had the calamari as the appetizer and 10 oz filet. Both were excellent. Steak was cooked perfect as well. The problem was the waiter. Started out good with service. Then after 10 minutes of the initial sitting down and getting the first drink, around 15 minutes goes by and he's nowhere to be found. So I get up and go to the bar to get another drink. 5 minutes after that he comes by to check. Explained to him that I went ahead and got a drink at the bar. He actually starts arguing with me that he had asked me if I needed another drink earlier. Had to cut him off and tell him that I was talking and he snapped and said ok then and walked off. Manager came to table, I explained what happened; he says, "that's unacceptable and I'll be buying your drinks tonight." Never see him again by the way. Also, the only drink I wasn't charged for was the one I had to go to the bar to get. I don't mind paying for a good meal and service but service was not there. Needless to say $130 later, lesson learned. Never again. 3 star rating is for food only.

I am giving Mitchell's a 2 star rating for one reason. I thought the service, food, ambience, was 4 star. However, when I went to purchase a nice bottle of wine, I was insulted to find that they mark up their wines 100% over retail. I am from Chicago and have traveled extensively around the country and the world. I expect a 30-40% mark up from retail on fine wines. 100% mark up is absurd and disgusting. The bottle I purchased for the table retails for $55 and I paid $115. I will never go back. If this is an example of how they run their organization, I will also not try any of their other locations.

What a joke!!! Wait staff was terrible and the food was even worse. Manager had to comp 1 meal (steak came out cold) and gave 50% off the other 2 meals (waited almost 2 hours to eat) and we would have argued those should have been comped too because I got sick when we got home. Awful experience and we will never go back there again. The tables around us were complaining all night. Slow, slow, slow service and they were not even busy at all.

Went with the hubby for Valentine's Day and had a great experience, as always. The room is beautiful for starters, with an elaborate plaster ceiling I can never get enough of. We started the meal out with perfectly mixed dirty martinis and hands down *the best* shrimp cocktail I have ever had. Our steaks were cooked exactly as ordered. Finished with a simple and delicious creme brulee. Very happy with our Valentine's Day destination choice!

My husband and I just had Mitchell's happy hour and you've got to try it! Keep in mind, it ends at 6pm so if you're working downtown bust a move. We shared a wedge salad with thousand island dressing. Typically we are blue cheese people but this was amazing. The hot sourdough bread with butter melts in your mouth and I highly recommend the Lobster Bisque. But tonight we ordered two steak sandwiches complete with marinated peppers and gruyere cheese with creamy horseradish dressing. The sandwiches come with fresh cut fries for $7 a piece. They have calamari and prime beef sliders for even less. Run to Mitchell's for happy hour!

When you walk in this place you are blown away. What an atmosphere and what a cool old building. Historic site. We had a drink while waiting for our table, the bar is amazing. Good vibe, lots of people, fun crowd. I was not impressed with the steak. It was not a bad steak, just average. Service was just okay. Excellent wine list. Unfortunately, I did not feel it was a good price/value. Meaning I expected more for what I payed out. I expected it to be pricey but I also raised the bar higher for food and service. I am going back to give them a second chance. They must get it right with the awesome building and location in DT Columbus.

I went here, as I was staying across the street in a hotel. The place was pretty empty, and we walked in with no reservations. The waiter was very gracious and quick, the cocktails were delicious. I ordered the shrimp scampi and loved it. I didn't order anything else, as I wasn't terribly hungry, but the next time I come here I will definitely order a vegetable to try! I did order a dessert, as I couldn't resist - the chocolate lava cake was amazing and wonderfully rich. I will most certainly return again!

If you like traditional American Steakhouses, Mitchell's doesn't disappoint. Its probably not as good in terms of "best piece of steak than Morton's of Chicago, but by all means it was enjoyable and the food was delicious. The real gem of this place is the super high ceiling, great "airy" feel, but still subdued in earthy, well-adjusted lighting and décor. Definitely best Columbus has to offer... I'm not giving it full 5 stars in terms of the quality of the butchery selection mainly because the selection wasn't extraordinary. No honking 30+ oz beasts. No prime rib. No Wagyu. I had a 16oz ribeye which was complemented well with a rich Béarnaise sauce, but by itself it wasn't very seasoned. Cooked to perfection "medium", but had some gristle.

As daunting as the name sounds, this is one of Ruth's Chris' (correction) better establishments in Columbus. With a downtown walk and scenic view, this restaurant will soon be a repeat of mine. From the general staff to the GM and trainer, the entire restaurant is very professional. It's too bad that just going around the corner to Due Amici, you find Mitchell's polar opposite when it comes to service. I was promptly greeted by the multiple hostesses, whom also offered to take my umbrella and hat to be checked. I think that was my first indication that this was a venue that appreciated the details - as do I... The decor was nice to look at, but I think the restaurant came off as too loud for this particular evening (I had a headache to begin with). I had a glass of pinot noir paired with my rack of lamb and the most buttery-tasting mac 'n cheese. Yum! The tomato and cucumber salad beforhand was quite good too. For a 4 course meal, this turned out to be a treat. I ended up finishing my evening off with a mixed berry cup in sweet cream with a rich piece of chocolate cake, and finally sipping a cup of tea before departing. I'll need to return to Mitchell's before I give it 5 stars. But I am truly optimistic about my next encounter.

I agree with most reviewers here. Service is great, food are generally delicious BUT the meat is disappointing. We came during restaurant week. Some ordered the tiny restaurant week menu, some order the regular menu. The appetizers were delicious. The bisque had tons of flavors. Now came the steak. Many of our party had the fillet mignon. It was good. I just wished the beef is dry-aged. I think it makes a lot of difference. I had the rib eye. I ordered medium. It wasn't that it was undercooked, but by the time i was done i had large pool of blood on my plate. I think what happen was that they didn't defrost the beef correctly (they didn't put it in the fridge and put the beef in room temperature perhaps?). Because of this the texture of the beef was also off. And then our dinner continued downhill with the dessert. The set menu came with some unappetizing cupcake. I've never seen a cupcake in a steakhouse before. I would definitely give this restaurant higher rating if it wasn't for the beef and cupcake. But great, great service.

Only a few blocks from our downtown hotel, this is a classy place in a great building. Soaring high ceilings (what was in this building before the restaurant?) and a good selection of steaks. We went for the Kansas City cut as we'd never seen that before. Was excellently cooked and the sides were fine too.Selection of wines by the glass was a bit shabby and no beer on tap, but all in all a good dining experience.

This is your typical fancy steak house. They keep it simple with Dry aged Kansas City steaks and huge sides coated with BUTTER--yum!! . They have Stoli doli's (pineapple infused vodka) just like Capital Grill's, but it wasn't as good. No beer on tap either. I had the 3 course meal and the only thing I didn't like was one of the salads (I think). It was like a fruit salad with toasted bread sitting underneath and soaking wet in a very sour vinaigrette. Maybe it was me last night, but I would have preferred the bread off to the side because it got so mushy. What makes this place really good is just the friendly service. There was a family with toddlers seated next to us and their server was really accommodating though the kids were driving me insane!

This past Valentine's Day, I was seriously contemplating celebrating Steak&BJ day a month early. I mean, having been to The Top last summer, and being severely disappointed, I was ready to buy a couple filets (maybe some t-bones), throw on some Montreal Steak Rub, open a bottle of wine and call it a night. Alas, my desire to pretty up and wear some heels outbid steak at home. And I'm glad we went out! Started off with dirties at the bar (his a little dirtier than mine) with blue cheese stuffed olives. Perfectly mixed and nary a lipstick stain to be found anywhere. We moved to our table, started with the raw oysters (obligatory V-Day "aphrodisiac") and a bottle of Sterling Cab. For the price, including the Mitchell's markup, a great bottle of wine. And thankfully our server wasn't visibly judging us for a) a lower priced bottle and b) not having a Pouilly-Fume with our oysters. Having just come from a joint session at the gym (hey, a girl's gotta be in a two piece come vacation in the Bahamas!), we were absolutely famished and some protein was exactly what we had in mind. Our server was really knowledgeable about cuts, the effect of dry aging, and the different marbling characteristics of each cut. We settled on a boneless rib-eye for me, and NY strip (iirc) for him. Yeah, the rib-eye is the way to go -- far more flavorful than the strip, almost as tender as a filet, and perfectly medium rare. There are a couple more steakhouses in Columbus to try, none with the old school gruffness of Peter Luger's, or the mob connections of Sparks, or the impressive design of Dylan Prime, but I'll be back to Mitchell's.

This definitely is the best steak that I've had in Columbus. The Kansas City strip, their signature, was very tasty...a bit fatty, but perfect compared to most steak house standards. However, I've had better. The chop salad was average. I had one of their signature cocktails and it was fantastic. Service was great. Decor was cozy, but not claustrophobic. So why not a 5 star review? I hold steak houses to a very high standard (see my 2 star review of Smith and Wollensky). It's just that I know that perfect steaks dinners are out there and spending $200 for two people, should get you there. I'm not cheap, but you need to bring your A-game, and make something that I can't do at home for 1/20 the price.

What would YOU choose to be doing on a night the Ohio State Buckeye football was getting trounced by the 'Canes? Dining at Mitchell's Steakhouse in downtown Columbus was a great idea. Two friends in CBUS from Nashville treated me to dinner at Mitchell's. My view of two lovely ladies was terrific and the meal made my life superb. The ladies had petite filets while I dined on salmon. One petite filet (ordered medium rare) was seen moving on the plate - truly, it could have been sent back but my friend opted to eat around the center. Too bad. The other filet and my salmon filet were top-shelf. Add to the "meats & seafood" two sides; one of creamed & gooey spinach; one of jalepeno scalloped potatoes - wonderful. The potatoes were down-right spicey; I loved 'em but some might find them over-the-top hot. Our post-dinner selections were Bailey's & coffe along with a creme brulet and some apple bread pudding. Juicy, sweet, hot, steamy.... whoops. We held our acts together even though two glasses of wine and the later consumed Bailey's had us reeling a bit. Mitchell's is very appealing to the eye. We ate in the bar-area which was terrific. The dining room had sections that allow for privacy, intimacy and openess.... all in one. I was a lucky guy having two gal-pals to my left and right which made the Mitchell's experience great. And my palate thanked me, too. Delicious. But hey Mitchell's... tighten up on the medium rare.

Went with a group of 15 ladies, we were seated in the private room in the back. The two wait staff were attentive and did a good job...first problem was when my friend ordered a Rob Roy up, with Well scotch. It arrived and was obviously the wrong color. The bartender had used dry vermouth! Any bartender, especially in an upscale restaurant, should know how to prepare this drink. We had to tell the waiter how to make it. My other friend's steak sandwich arrived, she had ordered medium and it was obviously cooked well and was tough. That went back as well. She reordered crab cakes. I had the French onion soup, which was very good, and the crab cake sandwich which was okay. Another friend had the black and blue Caesar and loved it. Another had a spinach salad with wilted spinach. The inconsistency was troubling. We arrived at about 1 pm, and the place was very quiet. Advice to management: get a real bartender and keep an eye on the kitchen, you have some trouble there. PS my check was $29 including 20% gratuity. Yikes!

i went here last weekend for my birthday dinner. suprisingly, they had no problem fitting in a reservation for 14 the night before. we arrived at approx 7 pm. the place was gorgeous but basically empty. i think that maybe the place is less popular b/c of the current economy. we went to the bar to wait for everyone else. the bar is pretty impressive. i had a manhattan with woodford reserve. made perfectly. we made our way to the table when more of our party arrived. FOOD for appetizers, we had the oysters and calamari. both were delicious. i'm not a fan of raw oysters, but these were great. i had the ribeye (medium) with gorgonzola and mushrooms. it was probably the best steak i've ever had. my friends who tried it agreed, including one friend who is a huge critic of everything. my side of creamed spinach also blew my mind. SERVICE the waitstaff was very attentive and always around if we needed something. ATMOSPHERE very elegant and modern. extremely high ceilings with huge paintings. the wall of fame of famous people that have eaten there was also pretty cool. PRICE expensive. luckily, i didn't have to pay since it was my bday. in summary, the food was amazing. the service was great. i would def come back here again for a special occasion.

Excellent lunch. I have been to this specific location many times for business lunches as I used to work in the Chase building and dinner a few times with my boyfriend. Personally I feel the food and service is excellent whether it be noon or 7pm, but you will surely see a difference in price. I always get the same thing...lobster bisque, steak and aspargus....always perfectly cooked. Their cheesecake is also pretty tasty. Staff is always on point regardless of the hour. I even treated a work friend here for a birthday lunch, which she just was so appreciative of and I walked away with not a large dent in my wallet.

I've ate here twice once a few months ago and again tonight...both times I was really disappointed. Both times for business dinners. Most recent trip...I had the ribeye and it was mostly fat. The waitress was very nice but the food was not. So many great places to eat in Columbus...skip this one.

Hubby brought me here for dinner for my birthday...lovely setting, but not too busy. Snowy night, thank goodness for the valet. Dinner was excellent- wonderful pumpkin soup, and salad for our starters. My lamb was cooked perfectly and hubby said his steak was perfect too. We had the asparagus & sweet potatoes for our sides both were good, but the sweet potatoes are not as tasty as Ruth's Chris which are my favorite sweet potatoes...but they were good. I will be back!!!

I'm surprised that this place only has two (now three) reviews. I guess because it's downtown??? Anyway, I was one of the guests for their soft opening (free IOW) and then a couple of times since then. Can't afford these places all that often.

I have never had a bad experience at Mitchell's Downtown. I love this place because it is equally as good for special occasions as it is for a casual drink. Walking through the revolving doors at Mitchell's is like going back in to a time where the supper club trumped the dance club. Elegant dining on white table cloth tables where the place settings could pass for art. The bathroom alcove has a black and white photo section of famous guests who have dined here that is reminiscent of Elaine's in New York. The staff is incredible with attention to your details from the moment you walk in the front door to the closing of your car door as you leave. And the food... oh the food. Mitchell's is a steakhouse, and they do it right. I always get the filet no matter how long I peruse the menu looking for something else. Mitchell's is one of the few places that you can order a steak medium and actually get the correct temperature. For those people who don't like steak, the sea bass and lamb are also very good. Mitchell's has sides to order a la carte. I love the truffle mac and cheese and the fancy green beans. My friend swears by the potato au gratin, but between you and me, I have better taste. You should also try the lobster bisque. Just get a cup because the bowl is not going to leave you any room for anything else. The cheesecake is my favorite desert, but the lava cake is good too. For special occasions I recommend Trevor as your server. Knowledgeable about the menu and especially impressive with his knowledge of champagne. Trevor always takes great care of me and also creates the restaurant's play list. For bar service, try to go in on a night when Matt is there. He is funny and gregarious. If you are eating alone, Matt will keep you company and laughing. Don't shun the bar. On a Friday or Saturday the bar can be more crowded than the actual restaurant. The bar with a bowl of bisque, the chop salad and a few drinks is a great way to eat here without spending tons of cash. Jeans are perfectly acceptable for eating at Mitchell's bar. Make sure you valet, and try Mitchell's. Its not just for special occasions, but it makes every occasion special.

My husband and I have been here several times and love it. It's a little pricey, but the steaks are done right and you never walk out hungry. The service is stellar and the servers are polite. They always offer a good selection of wines. The decor is elegant but not over-the top snooty or anything. I guess this place is nostalgic to me because we ate here after my husband had just proposed. Everything just seemed so beautiful that night.

My husband and I hosted a small dinner party of 21 people in the Wine Vault Room here. We live in a different state so I called them and let them know exactly what we wanted...they offer an off the menu option and a party menu option. I requested we have everyone served a salad at one time after an hour of appetizers and drinks, and then allow the guests to order off the menu. They were very accommodating with us. We had 2 vegans and they were able to make them special salads and dinners. They called a couple days earlier to confirm and had all the details down with no reminders. The day of the dinner, a family member brought in a dvd that we wanted projected on their screen. Our Mac didn't work so the manager worked with my family member for almost an hour finding a computer that would work. When we showed up for dinner, the 2 servers were very responsive and located new guests as they mingled for drink orders. Everything went as we had hoped and the food was wonderful. We couldn't have asked for a more attentive staff throughout the whole process. We were very pleased and would absolutely recommend the venue for this type of event.
