When you are in the fried food mood don't waste those calories just anywhere! This restaurant has the best fried fish I've ever had-their scallops are so good! Crispy crust yet they melt in your mouth once you take a bite. The seafood is extremely fresh! The sides are good - don't miss the hushpuppies! The service is the best! The people working there are a hoot!

"Fish Sang-witch!!! I need a fish sang-witch!!!" This place is a dive, and it's extremely unhealthy...but man it's tasty!!! Thumbs up!!! Keep in mind, it is fast food...that factors into the rating being 3 stars...if you're going to compare this to Fish Market, then you aren't in the right genre of food quality-wise...

This was one of the first restaurants I ate at when I moved here, and I still love it hate that it took this long for me to review it. Anyways the food here is awesome, the workers are awesome. I always order the fish sandwich cheese and tartar, which is great and no doubt the best fish sandwich in town. They are not that expensive and you get a good size fish. I never had a screwed up order, there was one time I ordered a dinner and I didn't like a side and I mention it to them not expecting to exchange anything, and the woman exchanged it for me with no issue. This is one of my go to spots. because I know the food will be good, fresh, correct, and the workers won't have an attitude problem like I have found at some of the restaurants around here.

Had the two-piece fish and chips dinner with hush puppies for $5.60. Hush puppies were good for price but not awesome but good. The chips had a ton of potential however they tasted a bit old to me. The fish breading was amazing! However the fish itself was quite mushy and left a lot to be desired -- could have been old like the fries. But was 5:30 so I'd hope not.

I had never been here before, but was craving some fish and chips. I had the fish sandwich platter with "chips" and coleslaw. Everything was fresh. The chips could've used some ketchup but I couldn't find any and didn't bother asking for it. I was also curious as to what kind of fish I was actually eating (I learned later it was haddock), but they didn't have it posted anywhere. All in all, I'd go back. Pretty good stuff.

are you kidding me!? absolutely the worst "seafood" ive ever had. i wasnt expecting gourmet quality food, but i atleast expected it to be on par with long john silvers or captain ds. ive read some of these other reviews where people are talking about how its the "best fried fish" in town. either these people have never had fresh fried fish, love deep fried store bought fish sticks, or have the worst taste in food. this place would probably be perfect for someone who has kids that are picky eaters and like processed/ pre frozen store bought food like fishsticks and chicken patties. i ordered the 1 piece fish and 1 piece chicken combo. what i received was down right laughable! the "piece of fish" was a processed triangle shape mystery "white fish" which reminded me of gordons fishsticks i ate as a kid that mom bought in the freezer section at kroger, and about half the size of my palm. the "chicken" was nothing more than one of those pre cooked round breaded tyson like chicken patties you can purchase at the grocery store that they had fried in batter. the hush puppies and fries tasted mediocre. the coleslaw was pretty good, but was most likely also store bought and the portion probably equaled 1/4 cup. the price for the combo was ridiculous compared to what i could get at a fast food chain like long john silvers, or i could have gone to old bag of nails and had all i can eat FRESH fish for a few dollars more. i wasnt going to get into the interior of marinos because i understand some places cant afford to update furniture/ decor, and it really shouldnt reflect the quality of food anyways since ive been to many hole in the wall places with amazing food, but i should have known better as soon as i walked in the place and everything appeared to have been original to the late 70s/ early 80s. i guess if you dont update anything for 30 or 40 years, eventually it will become "cool/ classic/ in style" again, right?

For what it is, its awesome. Great food (i had fish and chips) friendly staff, off street parking. The place is closed sundays which i found out the hard way, and the place is inside an old Arther treachers, but it is kept up well (on the inside) and its a neat memory from my past.

Greasy. Crispy. Incredibly delicious. Affordable. Filling. What more can one say? I am a fan. I love both the unpretentious, cafeteria feel inside and the old school block sign out front. This place is full of down home character. I have passed by this place for years before the little light bulb went off in my head that said 'hey! you love fish in chips! go in!'. (Not really, but it went something like that.) The 'chips' weren't incredibly flavorful but the battered fish was so worth it! Stop driving by it and go inside. You won't regret it!

This place is pretty good. I had the fried clams and chips. The fries were very "meh," but the fried clams were pretty good. They were a little overcooked, and you could tell the that grease was pretty old, but still good flavor. Overall, "A-OK." I'll go back to try their clam chowder (I'm always looking for a good clam chowder... any suggestions?).

What a nice little spot in the Grandview area. I'm a huge fish and chips fan, so of course, I had to stop in here. I was not disappointed. A great batter, and the fish was done very well. Hush puppies, fries, and macaroni salad rounded out my meal. I thought portions weould be small when I picked up my bag, but when I got home to eat, I saw I was wrong. This is a simple spot, good food, nice staff. If you like fried fish, you gotta stop in.

For a seafood place, its OK at best. I had the fish fillet with crab stuffing over rice. The crab stuffing was decent for being a place so far in from shore. The garlic "roll" was a hotdog bun with butter and garlic powder. The lunch was worth only about $6, not the $8 I paid. They need to wash their trashcans too. As I was walking by them I could smell them from about 3 feet away. I will not be coming here again.

I'll tell you a secret about Marino's fish and Chips. I don't like seafood. I really don't I went to Marino's with some work friends because they were raving about the place, but I discovered like the popular fast food cousin " Long John Silvers" Marino's has some really good, chicken. Yes fried chicken from a seafood shop. The key is that the batter that they use on the fish they also use on their chicken, making it amazing. So I come here every now and then to enjoy some amazing in house made hushpuppies, and some fried chicken that is unique, that you won't find at the other places. Who cares if it is bad for you, its good tasting ! Portion's are decent, and the prices good. Whats not to like? Other then the fact that your arteries will be clogged, but that's okay, live a little.

Formerly an Arther Treachers, the Marinos bought it out many years ago. The decor has not changed from its '70-'80s style. The food is excellent for a fast food joint, but be advised, everything is fried. They also have some strange quirks...the dinning area is small, so the ask you not to doodle when your done eating, if fact, they have a bell they will ring if they see someone "hanging around" after they are done eating, with a large sign that says, basically, if you are done, please leave. The also charge for refills, and have other signs about napkins and condiments. They have another sign pertaining to the condiments that says "We have to pay for it, so if you dont ned it, dont ask for it." I would never think their profit margin would be so small to justify being so frugal, but none the less, Im a fan...some of the best "Fish-n-Chips" in the city.

Remember what your mother and/or kindergarten teacher always told you when you were younger: don't judge a book by its cover. If you manage to remember that golden rule, you're in for quite the treat at Marino's Fish & Chips. It sure doesn't look like much on the outside, and come to think of it, the inside isn't much to look at either. With its spartan cafeteria setup, complete with linoleum covered booths and a movable type menu board, you'd think you woke up in either a deleted scene from the movie "Buffalo 66" or a family diner somewhere outside of Iowa City in the early 80's. Make no bones about it, though: Fish and Chips rocks. The menu at Marino's is extensive enough to satisfy whatever dolts wander in here looking for something besides the obvious platter of deep-fried fish fillets served with a side of fries, but you'd be doing yourself a great disservice if that isn't exactly what you got. It says it on the tacky yellow sign that spins around outside during business hours, so stop kidding yourself. As soon as you indulge in said meal, you'll be darn happy you did. The fries may need a little work, but it's nothing ketchup can't fix. The fish fillets, on the other hand, are perfect when left unadulterated by the likes of tartar or cocktail sauce. The breading is both greasy and flaky, but not just perfectly so. The fish is tender and rarely mushy. For a fast food place that specializes in deep-fried fish, what other info do you really need here? It's cheap, tasty, and more than satisfying. Go. Now!

Marino's is a decent place to quickly satisfy that urge for Fish & Chips. Sometimes my body just screams for the stuff, and since this is Columbus we really don't have a lot going for us in the fresh "Fish & Chips" department. I make no apologies. I've never traveled off of Marino's "Platter" menu. It's usually one of three things for me, Fish Platter (2 pieces of fish), Fish & Shrimp Platter (1 piece of fish and 3 shrimp) or the Seafood Platter (1 piece of fish, 3 shrimp and 5 fried scallops). Each platter comes with fries, hush puppies, and your choice of macaroni salad or coleslaw. The macaroni salad and coleslaw will always get passed to a friend. Something about those tiny Styrofoam cups speaks of an era long passed. Combine one of the platters mentioned above with a drink and you're looking at about $7-$8 for a filling (and greasy) meal. My main complaint is the quality of the fish. These really seem more like frozen triangles battered elsewhere and shipped in rather than fresh filets hand battered in the store. That obviously doesn't keep me from coming in, just from giving them a higher rating. Also, I'm taking applications for dining companions to join me for one of Marino's All-U-Can-Eat nights. Any takers?

No frills, just good food. I went with the classic fish and chips on my first-ever visit. Although the portion looked relatively small on first glance, it definitely filled me up. The fish was flaky and tasty; the batter was dense and greasy, just as it should be. I'm a big fan of french fries, and these were pretty good. You also get a couple of hush puppies with the entree, although there wasn't anything special about them. The order taker was friendly and my food was fresh and hot. I'd recommend.

I have eaten Marino's since I was little. They are a staple in Grandview and absolutely delicious. I always go for the Fish Platter. And the chowder is absolutely worth a try. Always correct, and always hot. Their slaw is top notch to. Wish they would bring back the steak fries though. Great owners who love what they do and love their customers. The next time you are craving fish and chips, give Marino's a try, you wont be disapointed!

  • Gabriel M.

There's something about Marino's. It's not the best seafood, but sometimes, you just need it. The fish and chips platter hits the spot, and is very affordable. If you like Long John Silvers, then you'll love Marino's. It's a similar meal with a family-owned atmosphere.

I stopped here to see what all the fuss was about. I ordered a fish sandwich and a side of cole slaw. While both tasted pretty good, the fish was pretty small and looked a little gray, as opposed to pure white like I'm used to. And it was brought in frozen, I'll bet. Ditto for the slaw, it looked like it had been scooped out of one of those 5 gal buckets. All in all, I'll pass from now on.

Best fish and chips in town! Like Arthur Treachers from back in the day. I love the fish. My sister is ask about the smelts. It's always clean...immaculate..and it's family owned. A Columbus landmark.

  • John M.

As a young kid in Columbus, I recall riding past the Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips sign from the back of the family station wagon many times. We never did go inside (my parents were so frugal that going to McDonald's after bringing home a great report card was considered a huge treat), so this myth grew in my head that Arthur Treacher's exemplified the pinnacle of fine seafood dining. After a few disappointing jaunts to Red Lobster, the myth only grew. By the time I was in college and realized it was just another fish and chips joint, the fascination of the mystery was gone. Plus, by then the Treacher's name had hit hard times: the company had been sold a number of times, with complaints by the franchisees that the quality had repeatedly dropped in order to save money, until the number of stores dropped from a peak of nearly 900 to only 14 as of 2015. When the store on 5th Avenue became Marino's, it breathed new life into my curiosity about the place and I finally decided, many years later, to try it once and for all. There was no question about the value: I picked up ten pieces and six hushpuppies for a paltry $17. I asked to have my order ready at 5:00pm, and when I walked in I was greeted by smiling faces, telling me the fish had just come up out of the fryer. I walked out at 5:02pm, order in hand, very pleasantly surprised. Quick sidebar: the store itself was a bit small (as a kid you always imagine things to be bigger than what they are and I pictured the interior to be as big as two football fields at least), and it was clear that the place had not been remodeled in quite some time. There was a certain charm about the old fixtures and the small dining room, however, bringing the feeling of a friendly independent restaurant to the location at last. The ultimate test garnered mixed reviews. I shared my bounty with my brother and father, and the consensus seemed to be that while the batter seemed to be a bit bland and overly crunchy, the cuts of fish were very flaky and tasty. I substituted my chips with hushpuppies, which I unfortunately didn't care for. The texture was perfect but they were entirely too sweet for my liking. My dad and brother loved the puppies, but next time I'm going with the chips. Overall, the quality of the food was solid. Not nearly as flavorful as Brazenhead's fish and chips across the street, but a much better value. Pick your poison. On the whole, I'm delighted that I finally pulled the shroud off a childhood mystery, and wound up finding a competitive player in Columbus' fish and chips market. But I'm also delighted that this historic location found new life with a new name, presumably the name of one of the original owners, as opposed to Arthur Treacher, a man who had nothing to do with fish but rather an actor who played Shirley Temple's butler. I'm still trying to sort that one out.

  • Susan R.

Marino's is definitely solid. I don't know if I'm ready to say I'm a fan yet, but they're solid. I do the chicken because I don't eat seafood. I always feel that the batter is a little heavy on the chicken? but it's aight. The chips are actually really good, which is a relief; so many fish-n-chicken places use the crappiest friggin' fries, which means half of your meal is crap. Marino's has good fries/chips. I also like that the food isn't overly greasy. I just never quite feel . . . totally satisfied after a meal here. I don't know what it is. It's always more "that was perfectly OK" rather than "wow, that hit the spot." Still, if fish and chips is your thing, I think this is probably the best game in town that I know of.

Went here for dinner. This Saturday was all you care to eat. The fish was freshly dipped and fried, very tasty. Fries and slaw were good. Hush puppies have a sweet oniony flavor. We have eaten here over the years and today Marino's holds up to good seafood. We have done family meal carry out which held up to traveling home, about 15 mins. Hope you enjoy your Fish as much as we did tonight. Service was friendly and patient for the five of us.

I really wanted to like Marino's Seafood, but I left a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, they do belong in the market for "fast food fish", but they're not much better than Long John Silver's (in my opinion). With that said, you can't really beat the value. $9 got me the Fish Platter and an additional piece of fish. So a total of 3 pieces of fish, 2 hushpuppies and a handful of fries. Marino's does do a good job in frying their fish. Everything comes out super crispy without being too oily. My reason for giving them 3 stars is the fish itself. The batter was good, but the fish itself was somewhat bland and dry. Being a fast food-ish joint, I can't really hate on the fact that their stuff is frozen, however I can't love it either. Who knows when these little fishes were last swimming. I guess i've been spoiled by fresh fish fry. The hushpuppies and coleslaw were edible but not amazing. I guess i'm a tough customer to please. Marino's is still a good option for a fast and cheap fish & chips. The adage is true in that you get what you pay for. I'm still searching for the best fish fry in town.

Best fish and chips in the city. I frequently come here for fried fish on Fridays. Batter is light and crisp. Even when I have ordered it to go, the batter does not get soggy or steam in the bag. It holds up to a healthy splash of malt vinegar and some tarter sauce. I believe they use cod which remains moist and flakey. Oh, they also have some of the best hush puppies. I don't care for the coleslaw because it tastes pre made and uses too much mayonnaise.

Great to have a place so dedicated to quality fried fish! The fish is consistently fried perfectly, hush puppies are tasty as heck, slaw is fantastic and the fries are on point. I usually just get the straight up fish n chips platter and you can't go wrong. The fried smelts are also great if you're into it!! The place is family owned and family run and you can get that feeling right when your order, they are dedicated to service and good fish!

Having a restaurant dedicated to Fish and Chips in Columbus is something I do not take for granted. I'm so glad that Marino's is that restaurant. It's family run, and the service is amazing. If you're not sure what to get, they let you sample if you ask nicely! I always order the fish and chips. The fish is perfectly fried and the batter is flavorful. The chips (french fries) are a great compliment, as is their cole slaw. The portions are huge and the prices reasonable! They fry much more than fish- you won't regret ordering the fried smelts.

Arthur Treachers Columbus cousin Decor seems to be stuck in 1982, I half expected Marty McFly to come in with his sneakers and order fish and chips to take in the delorian. If you don't care about the decor and focus on the food, its a good solid fish and chips joint. No frills. Also great hush puppies - soft and corny goodness. Seemed like freshly made pasta salad. Malt vinegar on every table. Great lunchtime spot in Grandview.

Go to the store and buy a chicken patty and put your own batter over top of the breaded chicken patty and deep fry it. I know it is a seafood place so I shouldn't order chicken but I thought I would get one chicken and one fish on my platter. I just thought the chicken should be better. I wasn't impressed with the hushpuppies, macaroni salad, or french fries. The coleslaw was the best part of my meal and I wouldn't be surprised if I could go buy that at a store. The fish didn't really have a taste but the batter was decent. The fries were a little rubbery and had no crunch to them. The hushpuppy was also just bland. The macaroni salad was awful as my wife and I took one bite a piece and tossed it. It had no flavor other than mayo, macaroni, and a hint of mustard. I had tried this place a few years back and thought it was decent but I was grossly disappointed today. The server was very friendly and the joint looks like a cool little fried food haven but the food didn't pass my test. I think I may try Long John Silvers the next time I have an inkling for fried fish, it would also be a little cheaper. I am not a huge fried food fan anymore either and today just reiterated my low opinion of fried cuisine. If the batter has good flavor or the fish/chicken has flavor then I may bite into fried food. This food missed any flavor inside the fried part and the batter lacked anything to set it apart. That BOGO coupon won't draw me back here.

Awesome. Based on the 70's looking rotating sign, I'd say this was once an Arthur Treacher's, or maybe they just ripped off the style. Either way, I love it. It has the classic 70's style dark decor with just the right combination of brown and yellow. The staff is super friendly, and the store is very clean. The food is hot, fresh and delicious. Really good fried fish. Really really good in fact. The fries are like steak fries, but with sort of a crimp cut version, and the hush puppies are perfectly seasoned. Plus they have RC. How great is that? I'll be back.

I've been going to Marino's for a long time and I like it better than the national fast food fish places in Columbus. I like the fish and chips, I like the hush puppies, I like the slaw and the macaroni salad. I like that it's family owned, and I like the friendly neighborhood vibe. The decor reminds me of a time when fish and chip places were more themed to the ocean and fishing. Long John Silvers looks like any other fast food place now. Kitschy, but fun.

I have been driving by this place for years and while in line was thinking to myself "how have I never been here!? This is going to be my new place!" I loved the shticky dated interior. It is EXACTLY what a southern fried fish place should have been and completely authentic and non ironic. The staff was super nice and seemed genuinely happy to be there as well. We ordered the seafood platter, large shrimp platter and fish chowder. Fries were outstanding. Hush puppies were decent for somewhere not in the south. Fish was flaky and fried well. Shrimp was great. Scallops were okay. The problem came with the condiments. Frankly when you are serving nothing but fried fish, your tarter sauce and cocktail sauce are like half of the equation. The tartar was heinze from a packet and just wretched. It tastes like the recipe is half mayo, half sugar. And the cocktail sauce was pretty bad too but nowhere near the level of the tartar sauce. We will likely get it again but make sure we are prepared with condiments of our own. I also didn't love the chowder but just because I was expecting a New England style chowder and it was Manhattan but I can't really fault them for that. But seriously guys, the sauce!

    (3)
  • Michelle L.

Mediocre at best. I got the fried fish, chips, hush-puppies, and the house made coleslaw. The fish has a thick crunchy batter (not greasy though); I found myself picking it off. The tartar sauce was in a packet-- I was hoping for a house-made sauce, it being a fish and chips place and all. The fries were good. The hush-puppies tasted like oil with a hint of cornbread. I didn't finish them. The house made coleslaw tasted store bought. My first thought biting into my platter was "is all of this frozen/pre-made???" I won't be returning.

  • Lauren B.

First time here and it's awesome. The fish is super crispy (the right way you fry fish) not very greasy. Price is just right and you get filled up for under seven bucks. Haven't tried their specials yet, but they have all you can eat monday- thursday/saturday. Great tiny spot to get some crunchy fish and chips. The staff is also very friendly and stop and talk. Will come again.

I was spending way too much money at the consignment stores on 5th and needed food. Talk about shop till ya drop! Anyway I moseyed in to what I thought would be an English pub inspired restaurant. Wrong. But it is a quaint, local no frill fried fish spot. With some guidance from the super friendly cashier I ordered a seafood platter. I figured why not sample all your fried sea creatures in one go! The lady also hipped me to the tarter sauce from the pumps instead of settling for the packet (clutch suggestion there). I have to say the service was stellar and the help person and even the other patrons were uber friendly! That's a good thing because the fish was mediocre at best. I'm sorry, but the other reviewers are right. This fish screams long john silvers. Ableist with less flavor - enter the tarter. The tarter sauce is a must have. Now for me this is a problem because I don't like to rely on sauces for flavor. Moving on...the shrimp, scallops and fries easily stole the show. I found the huspuppies to be sweet. Like jiffy cornbread sweet. No dice. That sweetness is reserved for pairing with a bitter green, not battered seafood. So overall I would go back if I were once again shopping beyond what my gastrointestinal system can handle. But to be clear, they would be a stop on the journey if dire need be, not a distinction unto itself.

Never had a bad experience here. As soon as you walk in, no matter how bad your day, you are greeted with such energy from the owners that you are instantly in a great mood. Simple menu, but just what you would expect from the looks of it - affordable, good food. The owner learned mine and my roommates name by our second visit, and still calls us by name when we walk in, and continues to stay actively interested in our daily lives. It's impressive that he cares so much, because I'm sure he has a high volume of customers. Going above and beyond as he does truly makes Marino's a local favorite in Columbus.

I'm a fan of Marino's. There are times when I want Fish & Chips and don't want to pay more than $10...Marino's is great for a cheap satisfaction. With the fish platter you get two fish "triangles", chips, a side of coleslaw or macaroni salad and two hush puppies. It's very filling. The interior is nice--sort of a rustic diner type of setting with wooden booths and there is a little patio for warmer weather. Plus! There's off street parking which is always appreciated. It's definitely a cool little place.

decent fried fish. Fish is flaky but overall pretty heavy. This is what I would expect when eating fried fish. Thought it would be more special but was nothing that great. Would probably not go again.
