We drove by and decided to try it based on Yelp reviews. Most people we saw in there were as confused as we were and didn't know what to do. We asked another patron who informed us everything on the menu was great. We ordered the sampler appetizers, shrimp & sausage Alfredo & sausage, pepper and portobello dish and wedding soup with our meals! Everything was super fresh, flavorful and huge portions. We brought home the tiramisu & the lemon tiramisu. Can hardly wait to try those. Don't bother with the cupcake joint next door. They look good, but spend your $$ at Carfagna's!

I found this place $$$ because it was $50.00 for the three if us. Plus I had to goto to the counter to order our food. Found it very odd there was NO servers taking orders at the table. My wife got chicken piccata, my son had a thin crust pepperoni pizza and I had Spicey Creamy Chicken Rigatelli. The best thing was my sons pizza. The first couple of bites of mine started out good but then turned to just ok. My wife said hers was a :(.

Great family restaurant. First time diner and I will be back. the lasagna was really good. The sauce was fantastic for a mom & pop restaurant. The staff was quick and friendly. I love these kind of restaurants.

I would give Carfagna's Kitchen a 3.5 if I could do half-stars, but I'm going to round down. Some aspects of my evening were better than others. First things first: The food was pretty decent. No, it's not authentic, but it beats the hell out of Olive Garden and Fazoli's. Hubs and I got a plate of carbonara (pretty tasty, even with cream in the sauce.. but if you are a carbonara stickler, you won't want to order this) and a sampler of stuffed pastas and gnocchi covered in their marinara, plus wedding soup. I probably won't ever order ravioli, lasagna, or manicotti if we go back. They weren't bad by any means, but nothing special. The gnocchi was fine, but honestly? I'd eat just about anything if it were drowned in Carfagna's red sauce, which is tasty as hell. Next time, I'll just get it on spaghetti and I will be a happy camper. The wedding soup, which is supposedly famous, was kinda bland for me. I make a better one at home. Portions were giant. We had leftovers for later. The thing that really got to me was the system that they had in place. If you wanted to eat in (and granted, it was a Saturday evening and too cold to wait outside, so that contributed to the clusterfk), you had to squeeze in somewhere and find a spot to wait, and you'd probably be standing on top of about five other people. This was exacerbated by the flow of the restaurant--take-out counter stretching all along one side, self-serve beverage area smack in the middle of the floor. When you're seated, you get back up to order your own food. It made for a rather inefficient-feeling use of the space that they have, not to mention a ton of traffic going back and forth. And we still paid thirty bucks for a meal for two (two entrees, two beverages, no apps or extras), despite it being nearly cafeteria-style service. I'm sure that we'll be back, but we probably will try to go during off-hours and maybe share lunch instead of a full dinner. Or, we might just buy a jar of sauce and whip up our own Italian at home.

The Carfagna name has been known around the Central Ohio area for quite some time. This kitchen is their venture into a family owned restaurant that is often a great place for a group luncheon or taking the family out. The first thing you notice when walking in is their extensive menu hanging on the wall ... a bit overwhelming. For lunch, I tend to lean toward their combo menu for a quite reasonably priced option. The selection is not as vast, but offers some traditional choices. Their counter staff are always willing to suggest options. You order and pay for your food at the counter. They improved upon their service option by giving you a number and bringing the food to you when it is ready, as opposed to calling out your number or name and having you pick it up at the counter. Service is fairly fast. My food has been good. Nothing really very fancy or complicated, just some good traditional Italian dishes, usually simple salads, good pasta or pizza.

The 'ultimate pepperoni' is simply delicious. Saw previous yelp photos and ha to try it- so thankful I did! Sad we live so far away because I would try everything here ..Sauce is soooo good!

My wife and I made the trip to Carfagna's Kitchen mainly because we had a gift certificate from restaurant.com (one of the kinds that never expire). When we first walked in, the place was very busy, with no table seating available, however we were offered the opportunity to sit at the bar, which we gladly did. The bartender was very friendly and made us feel welcome; in fact she was the highlight of our visit. When we showed them that we would be using a gift certificate the owner immediately responded that they no longer accept them and that we would need to get with restaurant.com to get our money back, and this was somewhat disappointing since the only reason we were visiting was because we had the gift certificate. Nonetheless we were already there so decided to go ahead with our meal, which tasted just fine, all in all a good meal but the prices seemed a bit high (had the wedding soup and lasagna). The bartender continuously apologized for not being able to take the gift certificate.

Last evening, myself and 3 friends decided to give this place a try. I went in with an open mind. 3 out of the 4 of us ordered the Lasagna. One friend ordered chicken Alfredo and they brought him shrimp Alfredo. The lasagna arrived lukewarm. So we sent it back to have it heated up. It was actually good with notes of garlic which I like. It seemed service was a bit "off" last night. Employees seemed overly confused about things, etc. we probably won't be returning. The only way I would eat here again would be to get carry out.

My wife and I took the kids to Carfagna's Kitchen as we heard excellent reviews from Italian friends. The hostess sat us and provided the menu's. We waited for ten minutes only to realize that a waiter was not coming. You are supposed to order upfront and then they bring the food to your numbered table. This system was a little surprising as they charge for the food like a normal sit-down restaurant. The food came out really fast and the servers were friendly. The food was a big disappointment. First it was lukewarm. I would like to believe that it wasn't just placed in a microwave but I have a feeling it was. There was absolutely nothing special about the pasta, the meat, or the simple pepperoni pizza. While all of us walked in hungry, my daughter was the only one that actually finished her meal. Probably the worst part was the dessert. My wife got the tiramisu and it came out semi frozen. She attempted to slice a piece and the whole thing wobbled. We paid $57 for this experience. Carfagna's makes the Olive Garden look like a high end restaurant.

Finally someone in Columbus knows how to do Italian Food! All the dishes are Homemade from the pastas , soups, sausage, meatballs, raviolis, pizza crusts. We tried them all . What a Gem. I guess 75 years in the Biz says something. Huge portions and great prices. Warm and friendly atmosphere, plus the owner taking time to say hello. Just like a Italian Family Restaurant should be. You can go there everyday and still not eat everything on the menu. Kudos! and Gazie !

I have once again been led astray by my fellow yelpers. Ordering was easy, although it seemed like I was being ignored for at least 2 minutes at the counter. I had the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken added and a side salad with ranch. I settled into my seat and my wait time was ridiculously short and everything looked great. However...The taste was completely absent and the 3 pieces of chicken were the size and thickness of silver dollar pancakes. I have had jar sauce that was of this caliber. The roll they supplied was tough and chewy and the salad was nice on the outer layer but the interior was filled with light yellow and white lettuce leaves and it was topped with stale croutons. The topper of it all was the abysmal meal cost 18.75. I gave it 2 stars because the dining room was pleasant and the idea of a counter service is very nice.

What a suprise! Carfagna's is like a nicer Fizoli's with authentic italian fare for a descent price! And the sauces, both tomato sauce and salad dressing are to die for! Seriously the best tomato sauce I have ever eaten and their famous white balsamic with herbs also one of the top dressings out there, they should also sell that by the bottle! The food 3 stars but since those sauces are so out of this world good I settled at 4. We had the cheese pizza, also the cheesiest pizza ever, crunchy crust, the famous sauce, but still not mindblowing. The sicilan pizza had super yummy red peppers bu the ham and pepperoni a bit greasy and not my thing. Their house salad is delicious, as is the stromboli and calzone, only downside the greasy pepperoni again, they use a buttload of it to and stuff it all on one side so a bit much for me. The service is very friendly and fast, the place clean and a nice atmosphere. Great meal at Polaris!

Good Italian food with counter ordering, wine and beer bar, and good service. We ordered wings, two different spaghetti meals, and lasagna. We enjoyed the lasagna and spaghetti. The side salad was frozen. We sent it back, but had to ask twice for a replacement. Beyond the salad, the staff was positive, helpful, and polite.

My wife and I went in here to have a dinner one friday night and ended up sitting at the bar. The service there was great and we ended up striking up a conversation with the gal working there. She was super nice and had just finished her Masters and was waiting for her first job to fall into her lap. Teachers rock! The food ended up being wonderful. Great flavor and super fresh and hot. My only complaint was after my wife got her Shrimp dish and after each of us tasted it, a worker came over and asked to take my wife's dish back per the Chef's request. He had no reason and just took it saying that is what he was told to do. When our superhero Teacher Extraordinaire found out and saw we were freaking thinking we got old or undercooked shrimp, she mobilized a huge group of her future students. Just like the elves in the Polar express they bungeed right into the kitchen only to find out that the chef made the sauce with the wrong base and the shrimp was very fresh. Crisis averted and the plate was returned tasting exactly the same as before it left...hmmmm. Good time though and we will definitely go back. Now, go forth and teach my new friend!

I have been here a handful of time in the last year. My go to is the Basil Pesto Pasta (creamy style). All of their pastas dishes are enough for 2-3 meals. Pasta dishes are served with a roll and super small side side salad. The roll is so-so. I think Italian bread would be better. The side salad can be on the wilted side. I think they should just nix the salad. I would rather pay more for a side salad ala carte. Their house dressing is very good. Another reviewer commented that you can only drink in the bar. Guess I am a rebel bc I've had a glass of wine in their dining area. I've also tried several of their marinara's purchased at Giant Eagle. Very good! Dessert: only tried the canoli and it was delish!

Good Italian. Local favorite. If you aren't a local, the menu is a little tough to decipher. There are family-style options and then single serving options. I was not disappointed!

  • Tim F.

Only ding is that I found their pizza crust rather generic, like something a grocery store would have. Especially odd, considering the giant pizza oven in an exhibition-style kitchen. My companions all had pasta dishes, and were very happy with them, especially the linguini alfredo. Portions are huge; 2 people could easily share dinner here. Excellent cappuccino, velvety & rich.

What a pleasant experience! This was our first time here (directed by Yelpers, thank you very much!) and we had a great time. We were looking for some serious Italian pizza and we were not disappointed. The order-at-the counter thing is fine, it surprises me that people complain about it because it works just like the do-no-wrong Northstar Cafe and no one seems to mind that. It does have plastic dishes and cups, but if that's what's keeping the prices low, I don't care. What are people wanting with their pizza? The servers were pretty friendly, if not silent, and we were given extra sauce for free when requested. The portions are HUGE and we totally overordered, expecting the small to be tiny. The prices are right on, and everything was delicious. I got the Italian Wedding soup, which was good, but had eggs in it, like egg drop soup. I don't know if this is a traditional thing, but I prefer mine with just clear broth. It tasted good, though. We got the margarita pizza and it was tasty, as well as the House pizza which had a few meats, onions and banana peppers on it. Also very good. We got the breadsticks to start and it came with a big bowl of marinara that I could have eaten like a soup, it was so good! The canollis were pre-filled and pre-packaged. I'm no expert, but I've heard that's a bad thing if they're not filled to order. They tasted good, though. We will definitely be back!

I should have researched this place a little more carefully. I wasn't aware that you order at the counter and then sit down and wait for your food. There wasn't anyone there to greet us or explain how the experience works. This was supposed to be a date for my wife and I. The fried provolone cheese appetizer was excellent. The lasagna was also fantastic. My wife had the fettucine alfredo with sausage and shrimp. I would highly recommend that dish. The 18% tip factored in to the bill is a little steep given that you have to get your own drinks. I think this would be a better place for a work lunch rather than a date with my wife.

The hubby and I got slightly dressed up before I read the Yelp reviews on the way there and realized it's an order at the counter type place. Whoops! Apparently they add gratuity into the price but even with gratuity, prices were very reasonable. If this was a serious Italian place I'd knock it down a few points, but Carfagna's knows what it is and does it pretty decently. I ordered the chicken alfredo tettrazini which came with a side salad (I requested to make it a caesar) and a garlic roll. We also split a tiramisu. The side salad was the saddest darn salad I've ever seen. Freezing cold and obvious that they popped it from a cooler, they literally just gave me a house salad with caesar dressing on the side to make it a "caesar". Luckily the food came out FAST so I didn't have to eat much of it. The chicken alfredo had a really nice taste and there was A METRIC TON of it. I will eat this for three meals. (Not the healthiest place, take note...I had a mixture of oil and butter an inch thick on my plate today from re-heating. But it was alfredo, so what do you expect?) Unfortunately the chicken was incredibly tough, so in the future I will go for the pasta and skip the meats. The garlic roll...I am a sucker for a garlic roll, man. It was good. And the tiramisu was awesome. Highly recommended. Not sure if it's made in house...I'd say probably not, but they source it to someone who DOES make it well and they defrost it correctly (many places defrost incorrectly, leaving ice shards in the tiramisu...not so here).

Whoa, who ever thought I'd be back in Columbus, but I am and I got to eat at Carfagna's again! The first thing I noticed is that they are expanding next door -- so the place was kind of in disarray with half the room it had before. So tables were scarce and sadly, people were leaving because there was no room to eat. However, in 2 weeks, all that will be a moot point because then they will be twice the size of the original place -- growing pains. Anyway, the food -- again -- TOTALLY awesome. I got the cheese manicotti and OMG that red marinara sauce was yummmo!!! Wash it down with some nice Italian Chianti, which btw now, they serve in Carfagna's labled wine glasses!! Woot! Hopefully, they will invest in PLATES like a real restaurant and not those cheesy to go containers. But its all about the food here and they do not disappoint. Now, if I make it back to Columbus a 3rd time, I'll be coming back here for my pasta fix.

My husband & I love this restaurant! The food is very good and affordable. The portions uare huge & usually give me leftovers for the next day. I love that this restaurant is owned by a local family. They also sell their pasta sauce at certain grocery stores :)

We went here for a pre-Crew game dinner the other day. It seems like a good place for a large group, especially if you're splitting the bill. However, the food almost seemed too assembly line like for me. Lots of pasta with lots of sauce. Large portions. Spaghetti had good texture. Prices are reasonable if you consider that tip is included.

Though I have only ate here a few times, my stomach has never been disappointed. I often order the stromboli with just pepperoni and cheese and although rather greasy, it satisfys my every "stromboli" need. They've also expanded the place since the last time I had been there and I love that I've never had to wait to be seated or wait for my food for an overly unbearable amount of time.

Great food, try the pasta fritta in the Alfredo sauce, you will not be disappointed. Pizzas are good too. Google for coupons, they usually have good deals online.

First time here tonight. I enjoyed it. Not what you expect when you think Italian, but it works! You order up front and then take a number for your food to be delivered. They have a bar area, and you must sit in it in order to drink alcohol. We decided to nix the drinks tonight so we sat at a table to review the menu (they have printed menus at the table for your review, or you can just order up front as they have giant boards with all their menu items listed). They have an EXTENSIVE menu - pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, salads, & soups with a nice little bakery-style dessert window to pick up something sweet on your way out. I went for the Paesana Submarine and it was delish! Dad went with the Spicy Chicken Arrabiatto Pizza & my sister had the Bruscetta Pizza. Everyone enjoyed what they had, though it should be noted that the "spicy" chicken didn't have that much of a kick to it, but you don't really expect a whole lot of "kick" when you're eating Italian. Overall everything was great. The oddest thing to us was the "no tipping" policy. The menu states that gratuity is included, but then goes a step further to say "please do not tip." Crazy. Being the family that we are (we've all worked in restaurants), we left some cash on the table. I hope they don't put us on some "do not serve" list for breaking the rules, because I'd like to go back!

Stopped by for the first time and got take out. So glad we did. Big D salad was very good, I still have half of it left and will be eating it for lunch. The pizza was OK. I have had better and I have had worse. My son got fettuccine with grilled chicken; he gave it five stars and also has left overs. We will be going back because I saw some awesome dishes being served as we waited (less than 15 minutes) for our order.

I'll admit - I'm pretty picky about Italian food. There are very few places in Columbus that meet my discerning tastes, so despite the great reputation of Carfagna's market, I held my expectations in check when they finally opened Carfagna's Kitchen. My opinion? It depends on what you get. There are some dishes that are fantastic and there are others that make me think "why didn't I get those other dishes?" Today at work, we got catered Carfagna's and it was very representative of the overall experience. While the fettuccini alfredo was fantastic, the chicken parmesan was only decent, and the lasagna was disappointing. I love the little buttery garlic rolls. On previous visits, I remember being disappointed by the wedding soup and the pizza left no impressoin. I think that overall this is a solid lunch spot. It can get pretty busy and sometimes it may even be hard to find a seat. Based on the food quality, I like the fact that this is counter service, rather than having a server. Paying for wait staff would probably bump the food up into the overpriced and overrated category. It's worth stopping by here if you're in the area, but don't drive out of your way for it.

Editing my post as of 11/5/2011: Went to Carfagna's with a lunch group and had one of their salads. Gorgeous house salad with simple, high quality ingredients. I'll be returning for those. Then I had one of their cannolis, and it was dumb-foundingly good. Ok- I'll be coming back, if only for a salad and dessert. :) ______________________________________________ We ate at Carfagna's once before and were underwhelmed by our experience. We decided to try it once more to give it another shot. Handmade spaghetti with meatballs - sauce wan't terrible, but lacked any complexity and was only barely seasoned. The meatballs were pretty good, but a little mushy. The handmade pasta was nice, but it was SWIMMING in sauce, so you could hardly taste the pasta. Rigatelli Cugini - the meats were well flavored and sizzling, but the pasta wasn't hot. Also, the entire dish was swimming in a half-inch of oil. Hardly appetizing. Two sides of green beans - These were absolutely frozen and reheated, and came to us lukewarm. They were tossed in garlic and oil, but the oil had an odd aftertaste. Tomato Basil Bisque - Very good, but not hot, and nothing we couldn't have gotten at Cosi or other chain soup and salad joints. I will admit that I am quite picky and hate to spend $32.50 on a mediocre meal, so you should still try it out for yourself. I just don't know that we'll be returning.

Went here for lunch today for the first time, and it was pretty good. I had the cheese ravioli which is my favorite Italian dish. The portions were HUGE, I couldn't believe it! There was no way I could have finished my meal. I'm kind of picky about my pasta sauce. It wasn't bad, but I've def had better. The place looked really nice, and I had a great time. There aren't servers at this restaurant you seat yourself but they do bring your food out when it's done. Drinks and such are your responsibility, which is fine by me!

This is a very nice meal for an order at the counter restaurant. The portions are enough for two and the price is reasonable for the quality of the food.

Perhaps the worst Dining experience I have had in years! Went on a busy Saturday evening. The restaurant concept is: get a table....then order at the counter, get your own drinks and the food will be delivered to your table. The place was crowded, the entire front of restaurant full of people waiting for tables, waiting to order, trying to get to the soda machine and dodging trays of food coming out of the kitchen. It was chaos! Once you fight your way through the process, the food is unceremoniously dumped on your table. There is no effort to provide a quality dining experience. Rolls are delivered in waxed paper bags, It feels like a high school cafeteria and it is a wonder a "food fight" didn't break out. The food was fair to poor. My Caesar salad was soggy, we sent my granddaughter's grilled cheese back and the pizza was boring. Actually the red sauce and meatballs were pretty good. The Carfagna's have been in the food business long enough to know what good food and a good dining experience ought to be. Why is Columbus putting up with this!

I had the veggie pizza. It did not taste good. The crust was a little burnt, but really made it taste not so good. It also came out cold. Don't waste your time! There are much better pizza places within a couple miles.

Took a family five and fed everybody for under $65. Food is flavorful and portioned quite well. The wine and beer menu was pretty solid for a small Italian spot. I had the cugini with green beans and I was über impressed with the execution of the dish. Two thumbs and a big toe on this one.

We've been going there since they opened, and have been through all the transitions of the place. It is way too noisy to eat in anymore, so we now call in our takeout orders all of the time. Great takeout service with special parking...and it is always ready when we get there...even when they are close to closing, and you're literally the last customer. So for the food...the chicken salad is the best in the state, bar none! I get two meals out of one serving. The salad is also sold at their store on 161. The pizzas are creative, and are sometimes hit or miss. Their Italian dishes are OK. The wedding soup is great...and the Italian Cassatta cake...WOW...FANTASTIC! They told me that it is homemade...mucho delicioso! That should be on every order!

I stopped here again, this time with a friend and her daughter. We all had versions of fettucine Alfredo. And it was good for all. I spoke to Sam Carfagna about the plastic plates and there's no plans to change them at this point. The food is good though!

I am a big fan of Carfagna's grocery, And I regularly purchase food there. I love their marinara sauce, which is available at GE Market District. I recently ate lunch/early dinner there on 07/22/11. I was expecting something wonderful, and was underwhelmed by the quality and presentation of the food. The pasta was swimming in the sauce, which was fairly bland. The salad was iceberg lettuce and not particularly fresh or appetizing. Over all, I think it would compare favorably to a chain restaurant. I would be willing to try again when they have a more established kitchen staff.

Went there Saturday with my boyfriend...and we were very excited because we love Carfagna's Market. We ordered an array of different items from the menu to share. Wedding Soup- I've had much better. I didn't mind the eggs in it, which I have never had in Wedding soup...but it lacked flavor. Pasta Fagoli- This was pretty decent... Cheese Pizza- Almost tasted like a high school cafeteria pizza. Not impressed at all. And way too much cheese. And I love cheese! Lasagna- HUGE portion, which I was excited about. It was SWIMMING in sauce though. Way too much sauce. And it was not even luke warm when I got it. Taste was good, but I think it was reheated...and not enough. The Godfather Sub- Now this was tasty! Very very good. We drove about 20 mins to get here so I would only go back if we were in the area. And would order a sandwich and soup. My boyfriend is in the restaurant industry and I think he's right in his idea that when you have SOOO many things on a menu...you can't perfect them. I think it's better to have a smaller menu that you can take more time and make the food much better.

I can't believe all the good posts about this place. It was awful. The food was average at best. The dishes featured incredibly generic sauces that were smothered in cheese and very underseasoned. After growing up in an Italian household in Philadelphia, I am embarrassed to admit to my family that I ate here.

    (1)
  • Jim D.

The food was a 4, but the plastic dishes are a zero. The cafeteria layout of the tables constantly reminds you that you're just a smidge above McDonalds. It's sad, because the red sauce is really pretty good. The Alfredo was nothing to write home about, but really pretty passable. But eating it from my thin plastic, throw-away dishes, using plastic forks, and drinking from a paper cup, ruin the experience. Please, please, get some real dishes, some real silverware, and some actual cups. It won't only save about 100 tons of trash, but maybe your food's reputation too. The food and customers deserve better.

Fabulous food! This restaurant to compliment the long time Carfagna's grocery (that sells sauces, fresh pastas, breads and prepared foods along with an incredible meat market and imported cheeses and wines) is perfect! It is a fun atmosphere, family friendly or great for a night out with friends! We just love it!!!

Good food if you aren't looking for higher end Italian. Some choices are certainly better than others and we love their marinara to the point we buy Carfagna's when we visit. A solid choice for the lunch crowd, very casuaul.

WOW. I have nothing to add about the food, but the renovations here make a HUGE difference. No more communal tables! And the interior has gone from plain to stunning. A great change for an already-great restaurant.

Great food, challenging atmosphere I love the food Carfagnas offers: fresh pasta, ample portions, and great antipasto. Salads, sandwiches, and pizzas are also very good. Prices are very reasonable, and they even have cheap to go wine. All in all, a great place to grab some food for a nice picnic or take out meal. You can eat there, and many do, but the seating is self service and cafeteria style. It gets loud, and many people are standing around either waiting to order or waiting for food. I'd suggest take out, and you can call ahead (they even refrigerate cool stuff and keep the warm stuff hot). For the price, it can't be beat. FYI: Closed Sundays

This place is extremely fast. I was a little overwhelmed at first, with trying to find a spot at the long tables and figuring out the ordering process, but it was all okay. The food was really reasonably priced, quick, and good. Based on other people's reviews and what we ordered, I don't think there's a bad item on the menu. This place does get packed, and that would be the only down-side I feel.

Carfagna's Kitchen is a very casual Italian restaurant by the same family as the excellent Carfagna's grocery on 161. Some of the same things that shine at the grocery come through here, such as the excellent meatballs and homemade sausage, but Carfagna's Kitchen goes past that with a staggeringly huge menu of Italian food offerings, from standard sandwich, sub and paninis, to pizzas, soups, lots of pasta options, and some other Italian specialty entrees. The dining area is exceedingly casual - food is ordered at the counter, names are called when it's ready, and everything is served in plastic containers - whether you're getting it to go or not. Seating is all at long tables in rows, so you're likely going to need to share with someone. The place can get very busy at dinner time, especially on the weekends, but while it was packed, it wasn't obnoxiously overcrowded - just very popular & alive. The food is good - some highlights being the Godfather sub (italian meats, slightly grilled, served on a bun with roasted red peppers, cheese and olive oil. The Italian wedding soup is excellent, with hand-rolled meatballs, the chicken pappardelle soup is great as well. Gnocchi was good, but could've used a bit more sauce. The cheese manicotti was superb, with thin, almost crepe-like shells. There's also a great selection of dessert options, from cannolis to creme puffs, tiramisu, and rum cassata cake. The tiramisu was good, but a little small for the price. The rum cassata cake was excellent, very light and enjoyable. There's also a nice selection of beer & wines available... though again, since everything is served in plastic containers, the idea of having beer or wine with makes it even more of a mismatch... Still, a great place to get a relatively inexpensive Italian meal (dine-in or to go) as put together by a family my own Italian family has been looking to for quality Italian foods for many many years. Definitely recommended.

went here for lunch for my brothers birthday...had a a 8 person party. service was rotten but the food was good. When we got there we were not greeted nor were we handed menus...when I went to order for the table I had to wait for the staff to stop talking to each other..the wait was 10 mins...before i said anything....I was impressed by the sandwich i had..but will not return. I spent 90 dollars and was sorely disappointed in the treatment we revived by the staff.

I visited the restaurant and it was way cool....loud,exciting & Italian looking. I had the pizza..OK not wow. My daughter who lovess chicken salad ordered the sandwich. We left she said the salad was good. I not impressed. The prices were reasonable though.Anyone want about 30.00 of left over 1/2 price hook-up dollars for pennies on the dollar...I guess I sould have known..watch out for 610,s hook-up. Mike

I went there Saturday, August 7 with my family. All of our meals were excellent. The Lasagna was the best I've ever had.

Don't ever order to go from this restaurant. They have either A) given me the wrong item B) Forgot my bread C) I have been completely ignored when sitting at the counter wanting to pay for my food. That is what happens when you have a 16 yr old girl running the to go orders, and all she is concerned with is looking cute and flirting with male customers. I will never return. Nothing is more irritating than getting home and realizing your food is not correct. The prices are also steep. They have increased since the renovation of the interior.

ditto what the previous reviewer has supplied. excellent place for "mom 'n' pop" kind of homemade pasta. staff is very friendly, food comes out promptly and hot. pizzas aren't anything mind-blowing, but decent. definitely go for the pastas. Meat Lovers Spaghetti was a favorite of my buddies. their bolognese sauce is fantastic (as i'm sure all of their red, tomato based sauces are).

Great job Rachel! Recently visited Carfagna's kitchen and Rachel was our server and she was great! Very good attitude and also very good at her job. She was very attentive and I don't think I had to ask for anything, it was like she knew what I wanted before I wanted it and she just brought it. The food was excellent, the lasagna was buy one get one 1/2 off and kids eat free on Tuesday so with a cheaper bill like that the waitress got an even bigger tip! All around a good atmosphere and good place to eat. We will definitely be back and if Rachel is there we will be requesting her section.

So, I was in the mood for Italian and I thought I would give Carfagna's a try. My fiance and I ordered our food to pick up. I ordered the Carfagna's Combination with a side salad. It was delicious. I really liked the manicotti. My fiance ordered Big D's Cob Salad with grilled chicken. He loved it. I also liked it. We will definitely be coming back here more often. :-D

I've been to Carfagna's Kitchen a couple times now, and I've left a bit disappointed with my meal each time. It's not that the food is bad; there's just nothing that really sticks out and has you wanting to come back. Maybe it's that I'm not ordering the right dishes. I've only been up that way for lunch and have had the sandwiches. This past time I ordered the Godfather, which sounds pretty amazing with your typical Italian deli meats plus prosciuotto and mortadella. All of those meats together were pretty damn salty, and there wasn't much else on the sandwich to cut through the saltiness. The roasted red peppers were decent, but I couldn't even taste the Italian dressing. Also, for $10, the sandwich was pretty small. The whole setup of the restaurant is a bit odd, because there's a counter for you to order at with all of the dishes listed on a board at the front, yet every table is cluttered with menus. I guess people sit down, look at the menu, and go back up to order, but it just seems pretty odd. Whatever, I can deal with that, and I don't mind getting my own refills, since I don't have to rely on a good server. I think the problem with the sandwiches that I've had here is not the meats themselves, which Carfagna's is famous for, but the dishes as a whole. You're better off going to their actual grocery store on 161 and getting the meats there, taking them home, and making yourself a sandwich. To end on a positive note, their cannolis are probably the best I've had in Columbus, and for a city that doesn't have much in the way of cannolis, I'd stop in just to get a whole bunch of these to go.

We have been here numerous times, especially since the remodel, which really upgraded the interior to look more like a high end restaurant as opposed to a sit down cafe which is what it resembled before. The people working here are always very friendly and eager to please. Our usual we would get here is spaghetti and meatballs and it was so very good that we usually would just get it as our default choice. However a few weeks ago I heard the pizza here was fantastic so I resolved to try it. Well we have a definitive winner as what to order here as the pepperoni and sausage pizza was one of the best Ohio-style pizzas I've had, if not the best to be quite honest. The pepperoni and sausage itself tasted incredibly flavorful and were nicely crisped up, curling up just a bit with no grease at all. This is high quality meat folks. They were generous with the cheese and sauce as well, both tasting exceptional. The crust was a Massey's type crust minus the corn powder. All in all the package came together to make one of the best pizzas I've had in a while. it was so good in fact that the following weekend I nearly went back and got the exact same thing! Highly recommended for dine-in or carry out either one. You can't go wrong with their pastas, especially the spaghetti and meatballs, but the pizza IMO is the best thing you can buy here so check it out!

Love the marinara sauce... meat balls have a great flavor. Hidden gem the lunch specials are very large come hungry. Staff did a good job for late lunch was a bit slow considering the small am pot of people... maybe it was a slow day for a friday.

I completely understand why this place gets so many mixed reviews. There were 5 people in my party (2 adults 3 kids) so a few different things dishes were ordered & of course I had to taste them all. First off, the pizza ordered by my 3 kids. ALL three kids loved the pizza. The crust was nice and crispy without being burnt, there was the perfect amount of cheese on the pizza & it was stacked with tasty pepperoni. 5 stars on the pizza. 2nd up was the Chicken Florentine, my husband's dish. The chicken was SUPER tender and had a marvelous taste to it. The noodles, I didnt taste. My husband said they were ok, nothing special. One thing we didn't understand about this dish is that the chicken comes with marinara sauce but the noodles & spinach come with alfredo sauce. Kind of strange. At all the other Italian restaurants we have been to, both are served with alfredo. 3 stars on this dish. Next up is my dish, the Mean Manicotti. YUK is all I can say. The inside of the manicotti had a strange consistency and tasted like dirty feet smell. I'm not trying to be gross, that is just the best description I can give you. HOWEVER, the alfredo sauce on top of the dirty feet tasting manicotti was MARVELOUS. Loved it. I dipped my bread that come with the meal into it, and wish I had 8 more pieces of bread. Couldn't get enough. *1 star for the gross manicotti, not even the delicious sauce couldn't move it up to 2 stars...sorry. **Before I move onto the desserts we tried, I did want to mention that the honey mustard dressing I had on my side salad was splendid. One of the best I have had. Secondly, the bread they give you with your meal was excellent as well. Cannoli was the 1st dessert we tried: EEEEEWWWWWW! I do NOT consider myself a cannoli expert or anything, but their cannoli is lousy. Again in this dish, the consistency just seems off, like the cream isn't blended well or something. Next up is the turtle brownie. Again, total waste of calories. I will say, the BROWNIE part of the brownie is good, HOWEVER, on top of the brownie they do a HUGE, THICK layer of chocolate frosting. On top of the frosting is MORE chocolate in the form of mini chocolate chips. You can see a little bit of caramel drizzled over the chocolate chips, but you cannot taste it because all the chocolate through out the brownie is so overpowering. Another problem with this dessert is how in the heck are you gonna call this a turtle brownie when there are no pecans, or some type of nut?????????? Ummmmm....helllooo!!!!!! We will not be back. Spent almost $70. What a waste. Should have went to Carrabas.

Last time we were in they had waitresses this was our first experience with the waitress at Carfagna's it was ok either way they have it if you go up in order or waitress comes doesn't matter to my family we're there for the food. We love Carfagna if its the restaurant or there market we've been going and will continue for many many years.

I've never been to Italy, but my husband has. According to him this is pretty close. Fresh, delicious food! The value for the portion size and quality can't be beat. This is one of favorite places to entertain out of town guests. It's got a casual atmosphere that's great for a quiet dinner with just my husband or a fun place for my whole family. The homemade pasta is amazing, not to mention that sauce! I've tried just about all of the pasta dishes, salads and desserts but the chicken parm and the Carfagna Combination are my two favorite dishes. It's big enough to share but I prefer to order it myself and take half home for the next day. That is, if I can control myself to stop before I'm miserably stuffed! haha!

Nothing bad to say, just nothing great either. Food was good and there was plenty but just not very flavorful. I had a salad and the house balsamic dressing was oily. Changed to the honey mustard, very bland. Husband had a white pizza, again nothing spectacular. We sat at the bar to eat and they really need to mark their bar seats, the poor guy bring out for had to ask EVERYONE "Did you order this?" It was very confusing and didn't come across as professional. Loved that you could do a tasting of wine before purchasing a glass and bartender was great. Friendly and offered suggestions. However, two tastes I had of red wines from the dispenser, we're both bad. He did replace the bottles, but if I was a true wine novice I would have just thought I didn't like the label.

Rich and delicious authentic Italian food! You can tell it's all fresh and homemade right back in the kitchen. Family owned and run, I've known the service to always be hospitable and friendly, efficient and consistent. Great daily specials, especially accommodating to families. Of course $1 wine night Wednesday is my preferred time to stop in, and if the crowd is booming, the full bar is a cozy place to pull up and start scouring the menu. The house Italian dressing is amazing - I keep a bottle in my fridge at home at all times. The gnocchi is my favorite dish, but always have a hard time deciding whether to order proven or taste a new adventure. In that case, I'd highly recommend the Carfagnas Combination to get a try of all the classics - lasagna, ravioli, manicotti, and of course gnocchi. And being a sauce fiend, what I love about this place is the personalization they provide with a whole list of interesting homemade sauces to choose from for any menu item. I love pesto and alfredo together so this is a nice touch that you won't get at most chain restaurants. Carryout is quick and convenient. Whenever I get off the phone with my yappy little Italian mamma lecturing me on eating something hearty for dinner, I tell her not to worry that I'm on my way to Carfagna's and she can sleep soundly that her baby girl is well fed and extremely satisfied (Though I leave out the wine night part :).

Carfagna's is our go-to for Italian food. Their Carfagna's sauce is wonderful and their wedding soup is second to none. Definitely give the gnocci a try as well!

We just ate dinner there for the last time ever. Everything that I wanted to order was pre-prepared and unable to change anything. Then the soup I wanted wasn't available. The pop came out next and it was flat. Then in the space of about 2 minutes, the soup (tasted just like Campbells) and salad came out, then the meal and the appetizers at the same time. My sons order was wrong, and the waitress blamed it on my son. No one came and asked how our food was. One person (not our waitress) came and asked my son if he wanted a refill, but no one else at our table was asked. Before we were even halfway through with our meal, the waitress shows up and leaves the bill. She then does not show up again, even though other people came and cleaned up 2 of our parties empty plates while mine sat empty the entire time. We finally got up, thinking we needed to pay up near the door. Thats when our waitress miraculously shows up acting fairly snotty. With service like this, I left a $0.00 tip (which I never do). When she saw this, she made a sarcastic laugh. So, to sum up, $80.00 for premade, reheated food, served without regard to normal serving time, poor service with any mistakes blamed on my party. We are even thinking about not shopping at the store any longer either.

In short: this place has the best Italian food in Columbus, Ohio. My wife is a snob when it comes to Italian places because she is from New Jersey where every place is unique and family-owned and a mom & pop joint. She complains that every Italian place in Ohio is a chain and I had trouble finding anything she didn't look down her nose at in the way of Pisan cuisine. And then we went to Carfagna's Kitchen. I had the pasta al Vodka. It was a 10/10 and one of the best italian meals I've ever had. The garlic bread here is off the charts good as well. Several trips later I returned and wondered if I could get the pasta al Vodka with gluten free pasta, and sure enough; they had gluten free options. On a lot of Saturday nights we will go to this place because it's pretty close to our neighborhood and it's a relaxing atmosphere. One night we sat at the bar and chatted with the owner who was working behind the bar. Extremely personable and nice guy who made us feel good about spending our money there (even if he was a Pittsburgh fan). The service has always been what I would call excellent, and the price point is very fair. There are many places out there who would try to charge double what Carfagna's does. Portion size is truly excellent. You will leave full. You visit Brio and everyone brags about the portion size and if people are honest with one another; Brio has really small portion sizes. It's a fallacy. But at this restaurant, you get more than enough food for what you pay and everything is VERY high quality. I have no problem giving this one the rare five stars. I look forward to more trips back this fall on Saturday evenings.

We've eaten at Carfagna's several times. Pizza, spaghetti, meatballs and salad are very good. We've not had the best of luck with their Chicken Parm. It's come out cold in the middle. Great atmosphere for kids. Small waiting area so things get hectic on Friday and Saturday evenings with long lines.

Went on a busy Friday night and maybe that was the problem. Service was slow, half of our order never came out, what did come out was cold, and I would say the food is bland and very overpriced for what you get. As a weird addition to this experience, We ordered bottled water and got the leftovers from the owners child's wedding 8 months ago. I didn't find it charming, but I guess good luck to Michael and Ashley?

A must on the list of places to eat in my book! I like the style/setup of the restaurant and hope that more places move to this arrangement. It's a fast casual setup but still like a sit down restaurant. One can go direct to the counter and order off the large boards on the wall or you can sit down and casually look at a menu and then go up and order. The food is brought to your table, salads soups first then a little later your main food is brought out. Drinks are self serve which I LOVE and because there aren't servers its more casual in that you are not bothered but if you need anything the staff are always around cleaning etc and can assist with questions or anything else. The staff wear many hats, they will ring food, deliver it to your table, and they clean off the tables as well. What a great operation they have going. FOOD the food is awesome! Went with pick 2: I got a panini and lasagna, others got spaghetti and salad. All 100% satisfied and the wow factor on quality and price of the food and the generous portions I can't wait to share this with everybody I know and go back there many times in the future. Only thing I wish they had was nutritional information.

Carfagna's Kitchen does very little to hide its strip-mall nature. You walk in, order at the counter from a gigantic menu on the wall and then find a table . . . unless, of course, you belly-up to the bar which has real menus and full service (very good, friendly service at that). Odd, yes. Not great for a date, but very nice for a family night out. Wine and beer selections were both within acceptable parameters. As a prelude to pizza, we fired up some meatballs and Italian sausages (a buck a pop). The meatballs were fantastic! They were very nicely herbed, a good size, easy to fork through and sitting in a decent sauce (a little more sauce would've been nice). The sausages were bland by comparison and I started to resent them for sharing the sauce with my meatballs. On the pizza front, Carfagna's serves up a traditional, wedge cut, non-Ohio pizza. The crust does not have large air pockets, but is very light and airy with a nice crisp on the outside. Rather than being chewy in the middle, the crust is very dry - almost like a bread stick, but much airier. The sauce was very nice - it was thick, zesty and slightly sweet, without tasting like it was paste-based. The mushrooms were fresh (yum!) and the peps were small, but thick cut, which gave them a meaty taste. One nit - you can order the pizza in a 10 inch or 16 inch size - i.e., there is no Goldilocks size here - either too small or too large. All in all, this was a very decent pizza (3.5 stars), which is good since I have half of the giant 16 inch size leftover in the fridge. The meatballs (5 stars) carried the meal and the strip-mall ambiance (2 stars) pulled it down a bit. Bottom line - A-OK!

Saw this place on Yelp! and thought we'd give it a try. We love Italian food! For those that don't know, Carfagna's is an order a the counter Italian place. You order then they bring the food to your table. First, the prices are a little steep (although 18% tip is included in the price). Our meal came to around $24 for 2 people. The not so good first. The pizza was nothing to write home about. Crust was very good. Nice and crispy. The toppings weren't so great. Sauce was OK and there were way too many pepperonis for my taste. Also, being a Fazoli's type place, you have to refill your own drinks, which is nice because you don't have to wait, but you have to get up. When I pay a tip, I would expect someone to at least refill my drink 1 time. Now the good. I got the Italian wedding soup (which is one of their specialties) and it was very good. Delicious broth, chicken, meatballs, pasta, spinach, all in perfect proportion. This came with my spaghetti and meatballs. Pasta was homemade and sauce was lovely. Meatballs were also well made. I would go back for the spaghetti and maybe try the Stromboli or Calzone. I'll stay away from the pizza.

This is about the 4th time we have ate here. We love the atmosphere here, it is very warm and cozy like there gnocchi. Their homemade sauce is outstanding. They have a bar with tv's, in case you want to watch the game or games, depending on your level of sports. The tables are clean along with clean bathrooms. It can be a little difficult to navigate if your an outsider, but its worth the trip!

This was the worst dining experience I've had. I ordered the eggplant parmesean with a side of fettuccine alfredo. The eggplant was cold not even thawed on the inside, so yes I sent it back. I then asked for the fettuccine Alfredo dinner instead as the replacement. Well what i got with the replacement dinner the size of the side of Alfredo no offer to refund the difference in price etc.. No wonder they include the tips already and make you pay before your served. Save your money, as the worst McDonald's would be the equivalent of this place and you won't spend as much. Oh unless you're a fan of screaming children regardless what meal you order don't bother going here. Would give a minus 5 stars but it seems a requirement of 1 star is a must.

Always fresh. Always delicious. Been here many times and am always pleased at the taste and quality of the food. There's so much to pick from that I never get the same thing twice. They get their food from the store, so I know it's quality ingredients. I'm glad they haven't gone the chain route because that's when the quality starts to deteriorate. These people clearly know how to handle the business!

Horrible service, pre-made overpriced food, the sauce didn't even taste as good as their own sauce that I buy at the store

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
