Belle's Bread is another home away from home. Having grown up in Southern California, I am used to having an abundance of Asian bakeries around. I prefer Asian bread because of it's softer texture, it's less sweet, and it's less buttery. When I moved to Columbus, I did not think I would ever have bread like that again until I accidentally stumbled upon this little gem! The bread here is excellent. It is fresh and the prices are more than reasonable. On my last visit, I bought an entire roll of green tea swirl bread for $4.50. The exact same thing in California would've cost me around $7. Considering that Asian goods in general are more expensive in this area, I was very pleasantly surprised. They also have cake, soft serve ice cream, drinks, AND savory food (i.e. omurice aka omelet rice, hayashi chuka aka beef stew). Overall: +1 star large variety +1 star for freshness +1 star for reasonable prices +1 star for taste +1 star for being the best bakery around I will definitely be making many more visits!

This place is a hidden gem! I work in the strip mall and all of my coworkers talked about it so I thought I would give it a try. I ordered cheesecake and some fruit pastries. Pastries were absolutely amazing. I thought the cheesecake was alright; my boyfriend wouldn't eat it because he said it tasted to much like cheese because it wasn't really sweet at all. I'm definitely going to go back and try more desserts, they have such a large selection!

Do you know what asians are always so skinny? It's because we don't load up our baked goods with sugar and butter. Personally, I think a lot of american deserts are too sweet or too rich, with the exception of cheesecake. I don't care what people say but cheesecake factory is a fantastic chain restaurant, especially their cheesecake. Wait a second, this is suppose to be a review of Belle's Bread. Who the heck is Belle? Is she French? Is she Japanese? We don't know but she sure knows how to bake a mean cake. Their cakes are amazing, not too sweet and always fresh. My dad is the pickiest eater I know (especially with asian food) but he would take down a mango mousse in a matter of seconds. Service is always quick and polite. They get right to the point and don't try to make pointless conversation with you, just like in Asia. If Belle's bread was a girl, I would take her out to taco bell and order her the most expensive item off the value menu. Then we would make sweet love to the romantic music of Kenny G playing in the background. That's how legit their baked goods are.

Belle's Bread is one of the best kept secrets of Columbus! I've been to Tensuke so many times and never realized this place was tucked right behind Tensuke/Akai Hana in the Kenny Centre Mall. They offer all sorts of cakes, breads, pastries, drinks, and even lunch entrees. Last time I tried the smoked salmon sandwich, which seems to be one of their most popular lunch items. It had a good amount of smoked salmon and huge avocado slices for $7, so I was quite happy. The fries on the side were just meh, wish there had been more sweet potato ones; I would recommend getting the side salad instead. As for pastries, so far I've tried the strawberry danish ($2.50), the almond croissant ($2.25), and the frank roll ($2.75). I love how fluffy and not overly-sweet the desserts are, and the frank roll surprisingly works really well. My only complaint is that it's a bit pricey but definitely worth it once in a while. Definitely will be back to try some more desserts and cakes!

There were so many things in the pastry case I wanted to try, but I refrained until next time. I'd like to come back to sit and enjoy a coffee with dessert. I had heard good things about their strawberry cake, so I ordered one the day before so we could have it for my granddaughter's birthday celebration on Saturday. I went in to pick it up and it was pretty busy. I didn't know it was also a cafe with real food and seating. I checked out the packaged breads, croissants, pastries, then got in line for the register. My cake was ready, so I paid and also ordered a vanilla latte to go. I was told to walk down to the other counter to wait for it. The register person was nice. My only small gripe was the lady who made my latte just set it on the counter without making eye contact or announcing what it was. I had to ask, to make sure I wasn't taking someone else's drink. It was very good latte. The place is kind of hidden in the strip mall and tucked out of the way, but it is to the right of the Pepperidge Farm thrift shop. The cake was amazing. Everyone liked how light it was. I will definitely order again.

Kenny Center Mall is a cove for Asian and pastry swellagance, as the old stripmall is filled with cake makers and pastries, shops windows signed with beautiful Asian script, oriental groceries and eateries. The best of both these combine in this shop. Pastries, cakes, and breads are the upmost here; my irresistible temptations are their mango moose cake, angel soft strawberry cake, and cheese cakes. You can purchase them in full cakes to bring home or in slices to enjoy at their Japanese style cafe. Advertised to be in the baked French and Japanese style, their bread products are the cats meow. Always fresh, always delicious, Belle's croissants, rolls, and donuts are better than corporate chains like Panera. The cafe sells some great sandwiches and deli meals for a great price. My last visit I had smoked salmon on focaccia bread, with red onion, and the sweetest avocado. It was first class! Added with fries, a mixture of regular and sweet potatoes, it was a value much over the price. Their remaining lunch meals are diverse, great value, and interesting. From spaghetti, to shrimp pizza toast, to hamburgers, to much more. Need a good cake ( the also do gluten free) or a slice to satisfy a sweet tooth. This place is recommended.

There is so much I like about Belle's Bread, and there is nothing I don't like. I was introduced to this Japanese French bakery by way of the MANGO MOUSSE CAKE I ate at an international pot luck. The cake was on the short list of memorable eats which led me to Belle's. Belle's is tucked away in a corner of the Kenny center plaza. There are other bakeries there, so be careful not to end up at the wrong place! Once inside you will see it is more than a bakery. In addition to the wonderful desserts and diverse bread offerings, they have a small kitchen for lunch service. The desserts include tiramisu, strawberry cake, raspberry white chocolate mousse, matcha cake and red bean tart. They have a soft ice cream machine; the green tea flavor is my favorite. I have to admit i like green tea anything. The green tea bread is amazing. I would recommend coming here to buy French bread and croissants rather than from the tired chain grocery stores. I have to say that the service is impeccable. The wait staff are patient, informative and very courteous. They are very efficient at waiting on customers. If you arrive at a time when the line is very long, don't worry it will go fast. This is a very inexpensive and pleasant place to have lunch. It's not too overly crowded and you can eat either inside or outside at the cafe tables. They even have a rock garden of some sort if you want to do a little meditation. JK

Belle's Bread is Japanese bakery in Columbus, Ohio. Is there any more that needs to be said? They are located in the Kenny Centre Mall, which also houses Tensuke Japanese market and Akai Hana Japanese restaurant. Pretty much the Little Japan of Columbus and a one-stop shop for all things Japanese. Their individually wrapped baked goods are very attractive. I've tried their frank (hot dog) roll and their red bean bun. The tastiness matches their tantalizing appearance. I haven't had a chance to try their hot dishes, but I will definitely do so soon. Their Rice Omelet and Spaghetti dishes look amazing! They also have an assortment of pre-packaged sandwiches. Normally i'm not a fan of pre-made refrigerated sandwiches, but these are the exception. I picked up a pork tenderloin (hire katsu ヒレカツ) sandwich for $3.75. Even though the sandwich was cold, the breaded pork had good crunchiness and the sweet katsu sauce was a great finishing touch. This place is great!

Absolutely delicious. We got about everything green tea. From bread, cake, cookies and ice cream. This place was super clean. Great quality product. Super nice staff. I highly recommend it. I'm addicted to this place and tensuke express.

This Japanese bakery is tucked behind Akai Hana in the Kenny Centre Mall. Every time I'm in the area, I swing by for green tea swirl soft serve, sliced bread (sooo much better than the stuff in the grocery store), and as many chocolate croissants that I can carry. They also serve cafe food, but I haven't had the chance to try it--yet another excuse to go back.

Placed an order for an 8" strawberry cake for my daughter's birthday this past week. We have tried the same style of cake from other Japanese bakeries around Columbus, but I think we all agreed this was the best one. Beautiful, light, and delicious. That's all I've tried here so far, but everything in this quaint store / restaurant looks very yummy.

Ironically, given their name, their bread was the only thing I didn't really care for. Overall, all their pastries and baked goods run a little more expensive than what you would normally expect, but seeing how they are one of the few places in the entire area like this, I'm not really surprised. However, for the price, there's only a select few items I would get again. The first time I went, I got the green tea bread due to good reviews over it, but it honestly really just tasted like plain bread. I sat there wondering if I just had terrible tastebuds, because I couldn't pick up on any flavors. After making the drive from Dayton a few times, I've come to the conclusion that this is my go-to place for two things: chocolate croissants and matcha lattes (both hot and iced are delicious). I stock up on the croissants, and I so badly wish I could stock up on matcha lattes. I went so far as to purchase two last time I went....one for now, and one for when you're done with your first one and wishing you had more...right? The green tea matcha frozen yogurt seems to be a huge hit, but for me, it was a little too sweet. They give a good portion, and even with two of us, we could barely manage to finish it since it was so sugary. I've tried a couple of the mousse cakes, and those are definitely worth a try.

had the matcha custard cup which was just okay, I didn't try the food, bread or pastries but I'd def go back if I'm in the area

Bread! Bread! Bread! Delicious bread in my tummy! This Japanese-French fusion bakery is one of the best in Columbus! There is so much variety of baked goods. I always have a hard time deciding what I want so I end up buying everything in sight!

I'm a very big fan of Belle's Bread. Every time I'm in the area (usually at Tensuke) I always stop by to pick up a pastry or two (or 10). I'm a big fan of the breads. They are really good for french toast, grilled cheese, or just plain toast. The pastries are also really tasty, and they have a lot of stuff that you wouldn't see in an American bakery. I really like the green tea pastries, the flavor is just wonderful. They have such a large variety of pre-packaged baked goods, you may forget they have an entire case of cold delicacies as well. Make sure you check them out - there are all kinds of cakes and tarts - the fruit tarts are very good. Everything inside the case makes me drool. I have yet to try any of their sandwiches or their cafe food, but I hope to have the chance to do that soon.

A friend showed me this place the other day and I've gone back twice since. This place is a cute little Japanese bakery, and they sell things like cheesecakes and breads with chocolate, peanut butter, fruits, and lots of green tea items. I think they also do wedding cakes, as they have some on display. You can buy individual breads for rather cheap and they are always soft and have nice flavor. Sometimes they come in fun shapes like crabs or seashells. The staff is also super friendly and there is an actual food menu but I've never gotten any like lunch food. There is also a sitting area. And they serve ice cream.

Try the kare pan / curry pastry with or without a hard boiled egg inside. The curry is mild and slightly sweet, which may sound weird, but I ate them on at least a weekly basis when I lived in Japan and Belle's does not disappoint. Beside the curry pastries, they have a wide selection of savory and/or sweet pastries, other baked goods, and some lunch dishes. I would say it is the savory pastries that set them apart. It seems like American and Mexican bakeries only have sweet pastries, while bakeries in Japan and Europe have savory options as well. (The Japanese bakeries are really their take on European ones) They do sometimes sell out of some items and with such a wide selection some offerings will tickle your fancy more than others, but that's to be expected. So...come try the kare pan!!!! I love this place. :)

  • Naiying C.

My favorite bread shop! Beside bread, drinks and sweets, they have a lunch menu. Items that I recommend are the rice omelet and the doria, the doria is very cheesy- so good! The special lunch is basically a little bit of everything, the portion is not big and honestly I wasn't full after eating that so I would rather get 2 Doria's instead. Basically all the breads and sweets are delish- try it for yourself! Can't go wrong with any choice.

I like them for their cakes, which is Asian style and not too sweet. Their presentation is very nice as well. Great for ready made desserts. However, service for special orders is not as friendly or smooth as I'd expect. I went to ask for a special order cake for my daughter's birthday. I got a blank stare from their server, who then silently pointed to their cake order forms and left me to myself. I knew my order was last minute, so it may not be possible to do, so I asked their manager. I was put in touch with their baker. I gave her all the details including serving size, and she told me even though it was very last minute, but they could make it work. I sent them an email with the cake design I'd like the same day. It was a very simple one to make it easy. I got no response, surprising since it was a rush order. When I called the next day I was told they only had enough cake to make a much smaller serving so they didn't think they could do it. Great, you could have told me the day before and I could have had an extra 24 hours to find another place. Not very happy with the service or communication.

5 stars all the way. We are SO HAPPY this place exists only 2 hours from Cleveland! This Japanese bakery serves Asian goods in a way that reminds me of the west coast. If you are familiar with Asian baked goods, you'll know that there is a lot less sugar used in everything. Perfect for my palette. They do a great job of letting the other flavors give life to the baked goods. We got several items during our first visit: Mocha bread - this square bread is so good. It's really moist, fresh, and soft. The bread tastes like an unsweetened mocha - MM. COFFEE CORNET - get this. Red bean donut - YUM. So soft and flaky with the right amount of red bean filling. Matcha roll - refrigerated roll with matcha cream and little red beans. It was really, really good - not too sweet and lots of green tea flavor. I've also had the mango cake (it's like pureed mango) and the green tea cake. Again, not too much sugar and lots of great flavor of the other ingredients. We got green tea rolls and walnut rolls too. YAY.

Very happy with my purchases. Was hard to choose what to get as so many things caught my eye and there was a big selection. Black sesame cookies are delicious. So was the black sesame panna cotta! They have six brioches in a bag for only $3.50 and they were yummy too.

We went there for the first time today. I really like this place! The ambience is really nice, like a coffee shop minus the loud blender noises. We had the Beef Stew and the Belle's Burger. I liked the burger a lot more than many other Asian restaurants that have burgers. I highly recommend it. The beef stew is also delicious, but tastes very much like Campbell's chunky beef soup, but at least they have very large beef chunks. I'd definitely go again

  • Holly C.

The pastries and cakes are so good here. I'm a huge fan of the mango mousse and just about everything else in the case. The green tea soft serve and soy green tea lattes are amazing. When you get a cake, they can write a message on a piece of chocolate for you even if the cake is small! Be sure not to go on a Mon because they're closed. The lunch there is awesome as well - my favorites are the cod roe spaghetti and hashed beef rice while my bf loves the pork tenderloin sandwich. The doria was a bit too salty for my taste. Monday-CLOSED Tues-Fri: 11:00am-3:00pm Sat: 11:00am-4:00pm Sun: 12:00pm-4:00pm

Located in the Kenny Center Mall, hidden from street view, this bakery cafe is a few steps from the Akai Hana Japanese restaurant and Japanese Market. We stopped in after Akai Hana to grab a few desserts to go and was very impressed with everything. The case of cakes and slices, the ice cream, the packaged bread and misc baked good and then the dining room (all in that order.) As mentioned by others the place is bright and open, immaculate and run by very friendly and fast staff. The one thing I was worried about before going in was what the variety would be. They do have matcha bread and cake, as well as strawberry cake, but also cream puffs, tiramisu and opera cake, to name a few. The quality of chocolate is very good here. When used as accent it's quality is usually sacrificed, but not here. The tiramisu was one of the best I've ever had. It's very light and creamy with a hint of coffee. Melts in your mouth. The lady finger layers are very thin which eliminates the common density you usually find. The cream puff was filled with fresh cream and custard and dare I say the best in Columbus? That might be dangerous to say in this town with another famous cream puff maker residing in German Village. After experience these deserts I definitely need to get here for lunch.

Ordered (To Go) Tiramisu, Almond caramel roll and Chocolate puff cream. They taste so good. Planning to come back to try hot food and buy some breads.

My favorite bakery shop! Besides bakery, this place also serves a small variety of food. I have so far tried their Doria, omelet rice, fish roe spaghetti, chicken pizza toast and beef stew. - Doria is a baked rice stew dish filled with cheese, very cheesy and flavorful. -The fish roe spaghetti is not one of my favorites, it is quite plain, does not have any sauce so even the spaghetti taste very very fishy. -The beef stew is okay~the beef cubes are definitely harder than I thought, and it is very dry inside. -The chicken pizza toast is definitely something unique and delicious. The toast is crispy outside and soft inside, with the BBQ sauce inside the toast makes everything better. - both of clam chowder and pumpkin soup are very creamy and flavorful - green tea ice cream is always awesome desert

Love this place so much! We always order birthday cake from Belle's cuz they have the best cake/dessert! I really like their pastry too! So glad we have Belle's bread in Columbus, can't live without it !!

I've been back a few times now and have tried many different bakery items. We did not like anything in the cold dessert case but they look pretty. Totally recommend the rolls with buttercream filling... strange combo but delicious! The sliced bread is good; we like it for grilled cheese and French toast due to them being thick slices. Give it a try, you might find something here you'd like, but it wasn't earth shattering as some lead me to believe.

Clean, fast, serves delicious food. That pretty much sums this place up. We love coming here for lunch on weekdays and weekends. It's lunch with lots and lots of dessert selection. I've had about half of the things on the lunch menu already. The shrimp pizza toast is the right balance of crunchy and soft. Doria is tasty and very creamy. If you get the burger, get it with a fried egg on top. The only thing I wasn't crazy about from the menu is the omelet rice. The breads and other bakery items are delicate and delicious. I bought the UFO and the cream-filled bread to a party, and they were a hit! So far, everything I've tried from their bakery are amazing. You can't pick the wrong thing here! My boyfriend ate 4 cream puffs in one sitting. My only complain about this place is it's so hard to resist spending a lot of money on the bread after your meal, and the breads can get pricy. I've never walked out of here with less than $20 of bread.

Not only does it smell heavenly inside Belle's, they have the best strawberry cake I've ever had. So light and fluffy! I'm already craving another piece! Customer service is warm and friendly! I will definitely be back. This is a nice place to meet up with a friend for a coffee and a sweet treat.

I missed it. Lots of folks love this place. It's a nice looking shop with attractive desserts on display. All of that would lead me to like it. But, I sampled four things. None of them were good enough that I'd want to go back and get it again on a repeat visit. Maybe I missed some other item I'd really appreciate, but 0 for 4 doesn't bode well.

Came here this afternoon in search of good coffee for my afternoon fix. Yelp gave it 4.5 stars and I was excited to see a Japanese bakery in town. This place did not disappoint. Cute little place with yummy looking pastries behind the counter and individually packaged Danishes and sweet filled breads. They also serve Stauf's coffee in fully compostable cups (winning!).

Love Belle's Bread! Authentic Japanese bakery, and good sign that the servers behind the counter speak Japanese. Solid tsuyu buns (red bean buns). I absolutely love the green tea treats (I'm the world's biggest sucker for green tea-flavored anything). Recently tried the green tea panna cotta and oh man, so refreshing. Bonus points for the red beans. They also have green tea soft serve (!!!), and they are very generous with how much soft serve you get--a great deal for what you pay. My friend likes the thick white bread here, and I hear the cream filled pasty is like a drug. I've always wanted to get the green tea bread, but it always sells out by the time I get here. Yesterday was no exception. Womp womp, next time.

The last few days I keep thinking " Man, I want to go back and eat here." That is why this gets 5 stars. If I keep thinking of returning to a place then I think that means it is great. I came here to find some pastry, cake, or something for my Japanese exchange student's birthday. I also wanted to provide an opportunity for something Japanese to be shared with the class. I settled on picking up some of their bread. She was astounded when I came to school with the An Pan. She commented on how authentic it was and said it taste like food in Japan. I give this place a thumbs up when I hear comments like this. Now, she has been stuck out in the country without much Japanese cuisine lately but it was still high compliments. She has also visited this establishment once and loved it. I love the red bean paste in bread, which I was shocked at. I will return as they have a vast selection of pastries made with wheat and rice. They have Stauf's coffee on "tap" which is a bonus. I am looking forward to returning here to sit and relax one of these days.

I love this place. I love all their sweets and bakery. The atmosphere is great too. Crowed at times but still has that quite and calm vibe. The staffs are super friendly and did i mention how great all the desserts, pastry, bakeries, and drinks they offer? Everything is just great. Its like entering another world stepping into that small, cozy cafe. I just love everything about it. I would definitely recommend this place to try at least once when you visit columbus.

An excellent place for someone nostalgic for Japanese cafe food, they feature many of the classics, from curry bread, to pumpkin soup included in a lady's lunch set. Belle's almost more of a transplanted stereotype than a bakery. I recommend the English bread, which is excellent for everyday use, the chocolate or almond flavored croissants, and the delightfully unusual white anko with walnuts anpan. I like that they offer many kinds of anpan, with different anko fillings, though a short walk to the Ichigo Bakery in the same strip mall produces a superior smooth red bean anpan. Their light cakes are quite good, but their short crust for their tarts is sub par, heavy, greasy, and dense. The service is nether good nor bad, though all staff is fluent in English, and most in Japanese. Nearly all of the items offered are of good quality, but I've had nothing 'omg amazing' here. However, Belle's is definitely a fun stop for someone who wants to experience typical Japanese cafe fare (though you will have to contend with tables of Japanese housewives out for a ladies lunch clashing with the odd Japanophiles camping out to practice their language skills.)

Hidden gem that you can't see from the street. Japanese bakery with a great variety of baked goods. Chocolate UFO a must try (sweet bread loaf with chocolate shell and sliced almonds). Make sure to check out the cold case: cream puffs, tiramisu, fruit tarts, and cheesecake slices.

This Japanese Bakery formerly known as The Crescent Cafe, bakes up really delicious breads, cakes, tarts, puddings, croissants, etc on the cheap! The logo features a drawn picture of a girl who looks more reminiscent of Belle from Beauty & The Beast than a Japanese girl. Perhaps that was the intent. Upon walking into this brightly lit bakery, you'll find yourself in front of the registers. To the right is a small area filled with wonderful packaged buns, croissants, danishes, and more. For the holiday season, there were adorable breadsticks twisted into the shape of candy canes. To the left is a the display case of the most delectable looking desserts. I saw everything from cheesecakes, pear and fig tarts, flan, to green tea and strawberry sponge cakes. The large kitchen in the back filled with convection ovens and baking equipment suggest that they make pretty much everything there. Everything is crazy cheap! Desserts are around $2. The buns, croissants, and danishes are also around $2. I purchased a pot of Sakurumbo tea, almond croissant, fruitted flan, and a slice of pear tart. It was all $9!!! It was all really delicious, but the almond croissant really blew me away. It was perfectly flakey with a great almond flavor. The inside had a small amount of almond paste and the top was sprinkled with powdered sugar and almond slivers. Totally awesome. Don't expect a wide selection of coffee or tea. The focus is really on the baked goods. They also have savory foods like potato croquettes, but I did not partake. The dining area is to the far right and casual with a big mural of a sunflower field on the wall. I will be back! :)

I've been here many times over the years, and they always have something unique to offer at Belle's. Where else can you get a Frank Roll? (A hot dog baked into a roll, with dried ketchup, mustard powder, and parsley on the top! I ate it for breakfast the next day--yum!) Their fruit tarts, cakes, and breads are delicious. I've sampled some beverages there (coffees and teas) and those are great, too. If you want to treat yourself, go to Belle's! They really have something for everyone. Best non-sweet treat I've had there recently: A French Roll. Just [really good] cheese baked into the middle of a large roll--sounds simple, but is filling enough for a lunch if you heat it up for a few seconds in the microwave.

This place is dangerous! Dangerous I tell you! Dangerously tasty! It's sort of a French Japanese bakery with some goodies that are familiar (like mango mousse) and some that taste damn good but I have never heard of them before (the UFO bread). They have big loaves of bread and smaller/mini rolls and buns. I got the mini UFO (a wonderful sweet bread) and a cream and butter cream pan (oh baby!). Staff is helpful, they have free WiFi, and they serve lunch goodies like sandwiches, spaghetti dishes, and rice dishes. Everything is very reasonably priced (the mini rolls were just under $2) on top of it all. Dine in or carryout. I'm so glad it's a good drive away from me else I would be there every freaking day!

A sweet little Japanese bakery & cafe! I stopped in with my little one for a treat and left with an Anpanman bun filled with red bean paste, a tasty UFO cake, and two adorably-packaged types of shortbread cookies, green tea swirl and walnut with chocolate. Everything was so tasty, particularly the walnut chocolate shortbread cookies, which are in the running for best cookie I've eaten in Columbus!

My fave bread is the green tea swirl slices. Whenever I eat it in public people ask me if my bread is moldy. I don't care because it's delicious and the minute anyone tries it they fall in love too. It is truly amazing. I also am a big fan of their green bean paste buns. I also love their cake slices. I love everything about Belle's Bread. Great unique pastries for anyone who wants some cute Asian breads.

Belle's is great. They don't have as much variety as places like 85C, but I was still very excited to find this place. I've had matcha green tea cake matcha panna cotta, bread, blueberry cheesecake, and others. Everything I've tried here has been great. Prices are pretty reasonable for cakes, but breads are a little higher than what I'm used to in California. I wish they sold taro flavored pastries and cakes.

After a lunch at Akai Hana stopped in for some bakery items. Very clean and orderly. Many things I wanted to try, but selected: cheese danish, croissant and a loaf of bread. The cheese danish was delicious and reluctantly ate only half so I could share. Croissant was flaky and buttery. I only wonder if it would've been slightly better if not in a plastic bag. The loaf of bread was sliced thickly and made excellent toast with a little jam. Also very tasty straight out of the bag. Also suspect it would make great french toast. Will stop in next time in the area.

A lot of the confections and baked goods remind me of the treats I purchased at JJ Bakery in Los Angeles, although the prices here are slightly higher (not by much--think a dollar or so). On a recent trip we purchased some baked goodies for my parents and a loaf of bread--and here I thought I knew was soft, moist bread was. Absolutely delicious without the guilt/bloat. Definitely want to try out some of their lunch items on a future visit.

This place is delightful! I've only had the green tea latte and strawberry cake (because I was trying to give the appearance of self control), but I'm looking forward to going back for more! The prices were great as was the service. Its close proximity to the Tensuke Market doesn't Hirt either!

Belle is exactly like the small bakery/restaurants my wife and I love so much in Japan. I was a journalist in Tokyo for most of the 1990s, and my wife is from Tokyo -- so together we know great "causal" food. The menu items are simple and delicious. The breads and baked goods are fresh and also delicious. Everything is very clean and bright. The back dining area has a large, flat-panel television with trendy Japanese anime and other fun programs from Japan. Love this place!

I'm not a huge fan of Belle's, though everyone seems to love them. To me, the place seems too kitschy and cheap to me. The place is very pastoral and makes me feel like I'm stepping into a hospital. As far as the food, I've had a few of their pastries, and nothing really stood out as something I would get again. The tuna was downright disgusting though, which is sad because I love tuna. This place had such great reviews so I was excited to try it, but from my experience, I think I'll pass.

Coming to this Japanese bakery made me feel like I was home away from home!! I've missed the fluffy and lightly sweetened bakery/desserts from home. I guess I no longer need to pack a suitcase full of all these delights whenever I fly back to Ohio, because now I've discovered Belle's Bread!! Let me start by saying if you haven't had Japanese cheesecake before, you don't know what you are missing out on...and I feel you have been deprived, you poor child you. The Japanese have this wonderful skill of making desserts so light and airy, with just the right amount of sweetness that makes their pastries so so soooo delicious. They have a wide variety of goodies at the store, from custard filled pastries to Japanese egg salad sandwiches, and of course Japanese cheesecake! As you can see from the photo I posted, I splurged! (My favorites were the chocolate croissant, custard filled pastry, and strawberry danish.) And everything is fresh, nothing tasted stale and I was able to enjoy delicious breads for the next few days. The bakery also serves food there, which looked pretty delicious, but since we were eating somewhere else we had to pass. I highly recommend this place, and I will definitely be coming back for more splurging!!

Great selection of pastries. Belle's has individually packaged breads and a great dessert selection. This is a Japanese bakery but if you're familiar with vietnamese, chinese or korean bakeries, you'll definitely find something here to your liking. Of note is the Spicy Tuna pastry. A must try! Oh...and all the staff super friendly and super cute. Practice your Nihon-go with them!

A cute little bakery/cafe combo, I had been hearing about Belle's ever since it replaced Crescent bakery. Glad I finally got a chance to go. Tucked behind Akai Hana and Tensuke, they feature Japanese-style baked goods and meals, with polite staff, bilingual signs and menus and pretty reasonable prices. As with any bakery, it all adds up if you aren't careful, but going by what I tried, it is worth the expense now and then. However, unless you like or really don't mind crowds, you might not want to go on a Saturday afternoon. The place is very popular, especially with Japanese people in the area, and even if there is a place to sit in one of the dining rooms, space around the counter and in the bakery shop is a bit limited. The food here is very much the sorts of things you see in cafes and homestyle restaurants in Japan. There's no sushi or teppanyaki, just lots of western-influenced comfort food favorites like omeraisu, croquette, and doria. I tried a gratin and matcha latte, both of which were good. A Japanese friend who also ordered the gratin commented that it is pretty much the same as what she cooks in her own home. You get a pretty good sized portion for the price, as well as a small, fresh salad with ginger dressing. I also tried a slice of matcha roll cake as a dessert. It had a very mild flavor, but a nice texture. I might give something else a try in the future, though. Of the baked goods, I decided to try the matcha swirl bread, which was a good choice. The bread is super soft with chewy crusts and a sweet swirl of matcha goodness laced throughout. I definitely recommend that. ...and am now craving it. ...this is not good. ..... Anyways, if you are looking for home-cooked Japanese flavor or just a tasty meal and some sweet treats, definitely keep Belle's in mind if you are in the area.

I am almost hesitant to write a review here, mostly for attracting more people to come and pack the place. I usually come here after office hour around 6ish just one hour before they close, but thank goodness somehow they always have one green matcha cake left, as if it is reserved for me. My fav cakes, very smooth texture, not too sweet and reasonably priced too. Where else can you get a good piece of cake for under $3. And the cheese danish, you just have to try it. Hands down. Pretty good place too to study or hang out, they have lots of plugs for your laptop. Come after 6ish and they have some bread 50% off.

Belle's Bread is: - delicious - easy access (once you know where it is) - bright & clean - inexplicably inexpensive! There's a cafe area to eat in, but it's mostly counter and baked selections. I can't stop thinking about the almond croissant, and I'm not even that much of a fan of baked goods. I noticed (but didn't try) a po' boy style fried shrimp sandwich for like $3 or something. Outrageous. I'll have to start remembering Belle's more often if I'm bringing in breakfast treats for a morning meeting. Skip the lines and hiked up prices at Panera, and fill your basket with Belle's freshness instead!

Update: I still LOVE this cafe, and besides their amazing pastries and desserts, I have been trying more of their lunch and cafe options. The Gratin (baked with shrimp, chicken, macaroni, & white sauce, topped with melted mozzarella cheese. Served with baguette) is excellent, but the Doria (fried rice with ham, chicken, and ketchup, topped with gratin {chicken, white sauce, & mozzarella cheese}) is soooo good. I am moving to SC in a few months and I will miss this place so much! Having eaten many different types of pastries in Tokyo and Nagoya, I've always loved them. I cannot believe that I've lived in Columbus for more than 4 years and it took me this long to discover this gem, especially since I love Akai Hana and eat there frequently. I was not around when it was Crescent Cafe, so I can't comment on the differences. This is your basic cafe - display case, register, kitchen in the back, and ample displays of bread, rolls, sandwiches, wrapped pastries, etc, along with a coffee section. There is plenty of seating available if you want to get your food and linger for a while. Every time I go I get a different type of pastry from the display case so I can eventually sample everything, but a mainstay is their matcha cake or mousse, which is so good. Another item that I have become addicted to is their green tea marbled bread.

Oh how I have missed Japanese bakeries! This place takes me back to my childhood. Every time I come here, I always get some butter rolls, thick sliced bread and delicious cake slices for myself and my husband. Their strawberry shortcake is wonderful, as is their chocolate cake. And I absolutely love their butter rolls- heavenly soft rolls! I never make it home without eating at least one on the way back... I can't help myself! They are too good!!!!

What a find! I read about the green tea soft serve and decided Belle's way a must try based on that. It had been a long work day and I had a bit of a zen moment with that green tea soft serve - I sat inside at one of the booths, listened to the jazz music and savored that soft serve, one spoonful at a time. It was less than $3 and a very generous serving. The next day I came back to pick up bread to take home to Raleigh - I had never seen a green tea marble bread before so that was a must try - it was incredibly soft and just a little sweet - comparable to a challah with a hint of green tea. They had samples of the UFO bread and once I tried that - I decided to get a couple of the small UFOs - that bread is a little bit more sweet than the green tea marble - I had it with a salad for lunch and my fiancee had it the next day as a snack - it did get a little smushed on the flight back home but was still very fresh and tasty. I also picked up a loaf of the cranberry bread - it made for delicious sandwiches with avocado, cheese, and deli meat - I bet it would also make for a yummy french toast. I didn't try any of the desserts but they seriously looked amazing - Belle's offers that kid in a candy store feeling at a reasonable price. They also serve lunch - the soup looked really good - next time I am in town I plan to try that and pick up more bread. Too bad soft serve doesn't travel well - got to make the visit to Belle's for that!

I come from LA, where we have a vibrant Asian population with lots of great restaurants and bakeries. I have to say that Belle's more than holds its own against LA bakeries. Their cakes are well-priced, fluffy, and delicious. Not too sweet, the signature of a nice asian cake. The cream puffs are excellent, much better than Beard Papas. The cake slices are well-sized as well. After eating a puff and a slice of red-bean mousse cake, we were too full to try other cakes. Yet, we purchased about eight slices in all - which I'm sure we'll get through soon. They also have bread that is pretty good, and some of it was on sample when we went. Echoing the previous reviewer, this place is really dangerous. You just will want to eat everything. They have lunch options as well. The place is clean and very trendy looking. In the same plaza is Ichiban bakery which is also pretty good, though it has less selection.

This is even better than the crescent bakery that used to be here. Incredible french technique in pastries, delicious yeasty chewy breadstuffs. For those of you that have never had the pleasure of trying an asian bakery, you're really missing out. You should get over here and try it right away!

Not a lot of difference between this store and the one it took over. Great pastries, both American and Japanese style. I bought a couple of pieces of cake (cheesecake and fruit cake) to take home and I'm going to have a piece in a little bit. There's not a doubt in my mind that they'll do a land-office business.

Service can be very slow and one of the cashiers is sometimes rude, but other than that the bread is great! I recommend a croissant loaf to take home. Their cakes are also quite big compared to bakeries in Japan so you can eat more :D

I visited here yesterday afternoon out of curiosity. When I was growing up we used to visit my grandparents in Japan a lot, and one of my favorite memories were the bakeries we frequented! I remember the cakes, the pastries, the soft white bread, but my personal favorites were the sugar twist doughnuts that had a slight chew to them. Unfortunately, no doughnuts. :-( BUT they did have quite a few other things! I bought a cream pan, just limiting myself to one treat, but there were SO many other things I wanted to try. Especially this huge loaf of bread labeled "UFO." I mean, c'mon. UFO? I HAVE to try it. Anyway, the cream pan was yummy, and very reasonably priced. Definitely quality stuff being baked here!

So I came here looking for food gifts for some friends, but the selection was a little small at 5 on a Friday...which was disappointing. I ended up getting a chocolate croissant, chocolate buttercream roll, melon bread, and the regular and chocolate cream puff. They were all amazingly delicious. I'm usually not a fan of Asian sweets because they aren't sugary enough for my tastes...but these were perfect. The area the place is in is a little quiet...but I definitely would come again. Hopefully earlier in the day to try more of their selection!

  • Aya R.

My friend used to work here, and suggested I go check this place out. I was not disappointed! It reminded me of all the snacks and goodies I would get with my friends at J-town in SF. Their strawberry and raspberry pasteries always taste so fresh! I always try to go around 11:00AM to 2:00PM on my off days, so that I don't miss the great selection. But I've been there around 5:00 PM and later and they've still had some good pasteries to choose from. Spending 20.00 can land you a sweet haul of baked goods. My other favorite things to get are the swiss rolls, and their green tea lattes! :D They also have a nice menu selection for lunch/brunch. Can't go wrong here. This place keeps you coming back for more. :)

This is the best Asian bakery in CBus, hands down. Everything is fresh and made very well. They don't skimp on the fillings in their buns and the items are well-priced. They also sell their baked goods next door at Tensuke market. I'm really excited because they remodeled and expanded and now serve food. I've yet to try their sandwiches, but they all look really good. The cakes and tarts look awesome as well. Every time I go, I try different things so I don't have any favorites. I do like mixed fruit tarts and their cream-filled buns and their red bean buns. Their fresh bread is sweet and simple, but be careful, it can go bad quickly so you may have to freeze/refrigerate it.

  • Nijole T.

Why do Asian bakeries pack all of their pastries in plastic bags to sell them? I don't get it and it takes away from the appeal and crunch. This is a very nice looking bakery, and they constantly bring out fresh items, but always already wrapped up leaving the poor goodies no room to breathe and getting them soggy. I would have bought way more but figured start with my favorite, a choclate croissant. Just like I predicted it had no crunch. It was fine but just not great due to being in a bag. The girls working there are very nice, the place is clean and well stocked.

THIS BAKERY IS AMAZING!!! I was having really huge cravings for sweets, and my boyfriend was kind enough to offer to drive 20 minutes to this Asian bakery. When I got there, I had such a hard time choosing what treats to get. I ended up getting the Coconut and Banana Tart, Pear Tart, Mango Mousse, Cheesecake, and Chocolate Cake. Besides the yummy-ness, the people who work at Belle's are super friendly and the prices are very reasonable (around $11 for 5 things!). I will definitely be back for the baked goods.

I didn't spend much time in here or buy much so my rating may be a little generous. But it's a large, very nice and very clean bakery and cafe. There are a myriad of breads, desserts, and drinks. There's soups and salads and sandwiches and such on the menu to eat in there and it's a pleasant atmosphere. The staff were friendly and pleasant. What I like best is that it's a Japanese bakery. Not just another bake shop. There are exotic desserts and drinks from around the world (not just Japan) that you won't find anywhere else around here. I tried a sweet roll with a peanut butter cream inside. The bread wasn't like a dessert cake, it was a sweet bread. It tasted like the best, creamiest, most delicious peanut butter sandwich you ever had. I had a white drink from Asia, I forgot what it was called. It was something with a T, Topico or something. It was a lemony drink with milk in it. Kind of a like a Sprite mixed with a lassi but not really. It was really good anyway, I recommend it. There were some cinnamon bread samples out. I don't usually buy the stuff anymore, though I used to a lot years ago. I really didn't go in there for that but it was so good I quickly bought a loaf for $4 and never regretted. I forgot to ask them to slice it but it was so good I never did need to toast it or put anything on it. We just ate it in hunks plain. Overall it was a brief but very pleasant experience and I do plan to go back next time I'm in the area.

The cakes here are really good. Fluffy, light and not overpowered with sugar. We got a small chocolate cake and it was superb, even to the chocolate piece on the top for decoration. They are reasonably price too. No more trips to WholeFoods for birthday cakes!

One of the places I never missed when visiting Columbus was Crescent Bakery. I was sad when on my last trip I saw it was closed. I could not get to the glamorized Belle Bread fast enough on this visit to Columbus. Since so many others seem to be pleased with Belle I will briefly say that for me it is a major let down. I disliked every thing I bought. I will continue missing good ole Crescent Bakery.

I was rather giddy myself upon learning that there was a Japanese bakery close by! So we ventured out to see what Belle's had to offer. I had a cream pan and an iced coffee...I almost fainted...O. M. G it was soo good. Two bites had taken me back to my childhood. Our housekeeper, Midori, was Japanese and she used to make something very similar that I could have eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It took me back to the Halloweens that she used to dress me up as a Geisha, as her grandmother and aunt was Geisha and Midori had all the stuff, so I got an authentic costume! She patiently tried to teach me Japanese. I loved going to her house because of all the wonderfully warn yeasty smells coming from the kitchen. I also grew up with a healthy appreciation for Japanese men, another yum :) And I love Japanese food to this day. Ok, anyway, I got the UFO loaf which is a light, delicately sweet round loaf, called UFO, I assume, because of it's shape. All I can say is the taste is out of this world. The coffee was served with a simple syrup instead of sugar, which works because I don't want to spend my next two birthdays moving undissolved sugar around the bottom of the cup. My daughter got the chocolate bun and loved it. What stole the spotlight, though, was the coffee. She got the Kilimanjaro, which is made with a syphon coffee maker. We both decided we must have a syphon coffee maker. Rich coffee taste with non of the acidity. Last but not least: we both got a loaf of thick sliced white bread. It's made with wheat flour, sugar, salt, yeast, water, HEAVY CREAM, and BUTTER! Foodstuffs for the angels, so light and yet substantial and billowy and pillowy and yet a slight chew to it. *swoon* I can eat it right out of the bag or use it for a Press Grill-like fried egg sandwich. Also, use it for french toast in a cinnamon-vanilla batter. *sigh* I am not a big bread lover, but this stuff? I'm drooling thinking about it. My Scottie literally drools when I offer her a piece too! I strongly suggest you all try Belle's. No, you won't see beauty or the beast, but you will be treated to excellent breads and pastries. they also serve sandwiches n soup, entrees like rice omelet and shrimp fried rice. Various teas, herb, fruit, and black. The Kuwa tea is reputed to help with colds, high blood pressure and diabetes. Pretty cool, huh? The green tea latte is excellent also. Oh yeah, they have ice cream too. Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and Matcha, or green tea. This place has the goods. And it's real good. And it's cute, with a wonderful wall of bright, cheery sunflowers. A nice place to be on a winters day with good company. Hmmmm, I think I'll stuff my pillow with the white bread, I can be nice and comfy and snack whenever I want, all night loooong...oh wait, you didn't see that...no, I'm not really that weird, but I DO SO LOVE THE BREAD!!!!!

So this place is amazing... reminds me of the bakeries I would make my relatives take me to when I visited them in Taiwan. And I love the wheat bread they make, which sounds silly cause its just wheat bread. But its so soft and that first day just melts oh your mouth. I can't even stand to buy prepackaged grocery store wheat bread anymore now! Also I've noticed recently that they have been taking the leftover bread at the end of the night and taking it to tensuke market. If you're lucky sometimes they will mark the products down 25-50%.

This bakery is amazing for my family, Japanese, because of so delicious breads and sweets. In fact, this is the first time to eat almost the same breads as in Japan. We wanna go there once a month, even though far from Pgh.

Wonderful bakery. After Crescent Cafe left, I was worried Cbus would never regain the wonderful Japanese baked goods that Crescent offered. So I was giddy like a school girl to see not only had they returned but they returned bigger and better. More dining space, larger menu and more freshly baked goods throughout the day. I've had a number of their baked goods (fruit tarts, rolls, curry puffs, twists), and I can honestly say I love them all. I haven't ventured into their cakes as much (just cheesecake thus far) and that was just as smooth and creamy as I imagined it. The sandwich that I first ate and cannot venture from is their Smoked Salmon sandwich. It is so wonderful. The cream cheese, salmon, avocado, and lettuce is such a delightful marriage of taste, my only gripe is that they can't make that into a footlong sandwich. Please Belle's Bread, if you're reading this, please make a party sub-sized salmon sandwich. That's all I ask. Teas and drinks are fine too, but who really notices when you're gorging yourself on carbs, fruit fillings and salmon.

I'd never been to a Japanese bakery before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but OMG the food is good. I bought an almond croissant and a melon pan and I was able to taste samples of the cheese pan and the cream pan. The almond croissant was amazing. It was everything an almond croissant should be, and I don't think I've ever had a better one. The almonds on top were toasted and the light spread of almond filling inside the croissant was out of this world. The melon pan was like a sweet roll, and there was no melon in mine. Google and Wikipedia tell me that Melon Pan is so named because of it's cracked surface that resembles a rock melon. Those same sources also say that some melon pan is flavored with melon juice, so some of the other varieties at the store might have been. I didn't check. The cheese pan had a very strong cheese baked into the middle, but the sample I had was very tasty. The only thing I tasted that I wasn't crazy about was the cream pan, and I think that was just because I still had the taste of cheese in my mouth. This bakery is very clean, and the staff was very helpful. If you're someone who is intimidated by ethnic stores because you're afraid no one will speak English and you'll feel dumb, you don't need to have that worry here. Everything was clearly labeled, and all the staff spoke English to me. Personally, I think it's an adventure when you have to decipher things on your own, but if you want to do that you can venture over to Tensuke Market as well. One last thing, Belle's Bread is not open on Mondays, so keep that in mind when you're planning your trip.

Yum Yum Yum. This place is relatively new. It's bigger than the old bakery. I like that they offer a larger cafe, as oppose to the old smaller bakery. The cakes are better, the breads are also really good. I'm a fan. The drinks are quite authentic. The green tea latte is delicious to enjoy in this wintery weather.

This bakery is simply wonderful. Crescent was okay, but THIS is what authentic Japanese baked goods should taste like. My favorite is the croquette sandwich, which I ate a lot while living in Japan for four years. The bread is perfect. There is nothing like real Japanese bread (or pan, which is derived from the Portuguese pao rather than French or Spanish). The cakes are wonderful--not overwhelmingly sweet like American baked goods, so you can really taste the sweetness as part of all the flavors. Can you get better in Japan? Yes, but I have not had better in the US, including in NYC, which has some good bakeries on the street in front of the library. Columbus, we have a gem here. And the curry bread is even better than the original; traditional curry pan is deep-fried, but Belle's baked version has all of the taste and much less of the guilt. Wonderful!!!

Visited for the first time recently. Very nice inside with a ton of choices of savory and sweet breads/ pastries. Very busy and some of the customers can be pushy but the people working here were very friendly. I only tried the strawberry cake and the butter cream pan. The butter cream pan was awesome! I can' wait until I can come back.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
