This is definitely an absolute no frills kind of place... I was suprised at how crowded it was on a Wednesday night...so people must really love it... Unfortunately I wasn't all that impressed. The rolls came out and were clearly from a bag of some sort (definitely not made in house) with a small container of pre-packaged butter. When I asked the waitress whether she would recommend the baked or mashed potatoes with the chicken, she told me that the mashed potatoes were instant. I have such a hard time with the fact that a place that sells so much chicken and potatoes would serve instant mashed potatoes..... I went with the baked potato. The chicken was fine....it comes on a plate barely big enough for the chicken/potatoes with absolutely no attempt to make the plate look pretty....The baked potato came with the prepackaged butter and sour cream. I gave it three stars, because as far as fried chicken goes, it wasn't bad.... They just have a lot of things that could be improved.

Okay - I am updating my last review. I originally was kind in my review of Ron's Roost and tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. But, I have gone back yet again, and I must say it is not good. The food is horrible. This is not the place I remember growing up - or else my pallet has gotten more sophisticated. I hate giving bad reviews, but this place is really bad. They really need to get a new cook. Bottom Line: Bad

Another all American experience. I had the fried chicken buffet here. I would say that I'm pretty indifferent to fried chicken. It's nice to have it once in a while, but it's not something I'd miss if it would disappear completely. The buffet was made of some vegetables (warm corn, green beans), pasta, mashed potatoes, buns, fried chicken and fritters. MMMMMM, fritters. I didn't know this American delicacy, but man is it yummy! I'd almost give this place 4 stars just for them. However, in my second round the fritters were cold and the place overall just didn't impress me. It was ok, but I wouldn ride out there to go back.

I really like Ron's Roost. Service is friendly and goes the extra step. They have a ton of food options and good food too.

Arrived at the Roost at 8:45 on a Wednesday night, both the storefront sign and the internet state the restaurant is open until 9:30. I was told that since they did not have any active tables they were closed. Strongly suggest you correct your posted hours to state that you close when you are slow, not the posted hours of operation.

Super friendly, homey atmosphere. When we were there it was absolutely dead (lunch day after Xmas during a snowstorm), but the service was great and the food tasty.

I've been to Ron's Roost twice to try the fried chicken because of its reputation. The chicken was very good at an affordable price. Huge pieces, too! I didn't think it was the best I've ever had, but Ron's is still a nice place to go.

The sign on the door clearly states this establishments' hours, closing at 10 on a Saturday night. Got there at 9 and we see folks inside eating, but the doors are locked. After calling and inquiring about it, we were told there was a "grease spill" in the kitchen. The lady on the phone was rude and had no sense of customer service. Very disappointed when, after reading other reviews, I discovered others had similar experiences. I just don't appreciate being lied to. Won't even try to visit in the future.

"Ron's Roost has been family owned and operated since 1960. What started out as a 20 seat diner in 1960 has grown to a full service restaurant & bar that now seats 220 customers along with a separate carry out area. Ron's Roost is very proud to have been voted Cincinnati's Best Fried Chicken(Cincinnati Enquirer) and also winner of the Best Dish at the annual Taste of Cincinnati." Also the German Sauerbraten with mashed potatoes was great! The value, service and place is all together great. Will come again, when in town.

Chicken, chicken, and more chicken. So what did I order? The pork roast, of course. Inside the place I was entertained by the sports theme throughout the place. Old stuff, newer stuff, and a whole lot in between. I'm still trying to figure out why the locker of the Mayor (Sean Casey) was in the sitting area. There was a certificate of authenticity, but it wasn't autographed with, "Hey, all, gobble up the best chicken of all time...Sean." When the warm bread arrived I thought we were in for a great mom-and-pop meal. Hmmmm... Our waitress was right on, and offered to replace the hot bacon sweet and sour cole slaw that she really suggested, but I clearly didn't like. Could be an acquired taste. She brought a replacement house salad. The sides were generous in size. There was a mountain of smashed potatoes. But the rest of the meal? The stuffing could have been Stove Top and the pork roast - today's special - was overcooked and fairly bland. Yes, my friend had the chicken. His reply, "It was pretty good." To be fair I'll be willing to go back and try...the chicken.

This is a decent neighborhood place to grab a quick dinner. The chicken is good not outstanding. If I were in the neighborhood I might stop back but I wouldn't make the drive.

So, this place is probably exactly what you expect it to be. If you don't eat meat or aren't particularly fond of white bread and fried food, I'd pass on it. If you like fried chicken though, I hear it's great.

I went to Ron's Roost a couple of weeks ago with a friend of mine. It was a busy Friday night, probably due to the chicken and fish buffet. Going in, since there were so many people waiting, it took a while to be seated, and then it took another while for the waitress to put our order in. But once we got our order in, the service was relatively quick. I ordered one of the fish entrees with salad and baked potato. Everything tasted really good. I will definitely come back.

Known for chicken boasting up to selling 10,000 pieces of chicken a week and featured long ago on Good Morning America - Al Roker this is a very family friendly spot. The chicken can take up to 20 minutes but it is worth the wait. The sides are pretty standard American fare - strange to have a chicken place feature German food but there is quite a bit of German on the menu and it is pretty tasty. Not Mecklenberg Gardens but this is the West Side. Ron's has been around awhile and you will find Elder, Bengals, and especially the Red's paraphenalia all over the walls. It is a surprisingly good bar - not great taps but decent and good cocktails. Service is excellent.

My mom loves fried chicken & grew up in White Oak. So for her birthday lunch, she chose Ron's Roost. It wasn't too crowded for lunch on Labor Day, so we were seated right away. Immediately upon opening my menu I became skeptical. In my opinion, menus are sticky for only two reasons: #1 - the restaurant is so popular & busy, the hostess doesn't have time to wipe them down before handing out to the next customer (good sign) or # 2 - the hostess is too lazy to wipe the menu down & there are years of stickiness & dirt caked on the menu (bad sign). Based on the small number of people, I guessed # 2 - and I'm pretty sure I was correct. When the rolls arrived at our table, I was hopeful. This seemed "down home" to me, so surely the rolls were made in house. Well the rolls were warm (from sitting under a heating lamp or something), but tasted like they were purchased at Krogers the day before. My mom loved her fried chicken, green beans, & mashed potatoes. The rest of us could have gone without. The portions are huge, perhaps to make up for the poor quality in my opinion. My fried chicken sandwich was twice the size of the bun, greasy, and not very flavorful. The mashed potatoes tasted as if they were made from a mix or instant. I would have much preferred the KFC two minutes from my parent's house than this forty minute drive to bland, crappy food.

Amazing chicken, german food and sides. Real comfort food in a nice setting. I grew up not far from here and always thought it was for senior citizens. It is much better than I had expected. They've remodeled and have a great patio.

Several years ago, before the remodeling and opening the new dining area, Ron's food was mostly passable and the fried chicken would probably have merited four stars. It seemed to me at the same time they renovated the restaurant they cut WAY BACK on quality. I love me some fried chicken as much as anybody on the planet, but now I go to Popeye's for better food at a much lower price.

I have only had take-out fried chicken from Ron's so I can't comment on sides or the ambience, but the fried chicken was delicious. Had a unique taste in a world where most fried chicken tastes the same.

There's a reason there's a line here: this is the best fried chicken in Cincinnati. My Kentucky grandma even approved. Or at least she didn't spit it out and bludgeon us with the bones. It's even worth a drive from the east side. If you lose your sense of direction, just look for the giant rooster statue lurking on the roof. Or dare to talk to a westsider and ask for directions; I'm sure anyone would know how to get there and might very well be traveling there. Big bonus: you can call in an order and pick it up, in case the extensive fowl paraphernalia makes you a little too conscious of what's beneath that delicious, crispy breading.

LIke Ron's Roost. I like the new patio. The chicken is so good we have had it catered for our childern's parties. Only issue I have is that they do not have mac and cheese for the little ones.

Obviously this place has great chicken. I mean there's a huge chicken on top of the building! The fried chicken is just like grandma used to make (well, not my grandma.) In fact, the menu is all about down home cookin'. By which I mean it's a meat and potatoes type of place. They also have these apple fritters which are great. Definitely order some, because you won't regret it. Ron's Roost can get crowded and the demographic skews elderly, but it is great food.

I didn't get the chicken - I know I should have - but I was on a date...and you can't suck on a chicken bone on a date! So I got crab cakes - they were good. The sides were bland...I mean - it's an old people place. But I'd go again alone just to try the chicken.
