My go to place to get some quick fried chicken. This is your neighborhood southern style chicken joint with a lot of choices such as fried steak nugget and fish, but honestly I have only ever come for the chicken. It comes in two flavors a spicy and not. Their batter is not too think, and the chicken is always succulent. They have your normal sides like greens, mac and cheese, beans, mashed potatoes, ect. One unique side is their potato wedges. These are are not your normal steak fries, more like the hulk hogans of fries. Prices are good, comparable to other fast food chicken places, but oh so more delicious.

Cheap, late night fried chicken!?! What could be better!! I'm a huge fan of Richie's because the portions are enormous for how much you pay. I believe the first time here, I ordered 10 pc chicken, mac n cheese, and wedges for two hungry people, and we had leftovers for two more meals! In other words, 10 pcs of Richie's fried chicken is probably enough to feed a family of four. I like that their food is out on display so you can see it before you buy. Like others, I think the sides are just OK, even their acclaimed potato wedges. They complement the chicken well, but I wouldn't order them alone. The spicy chicken is my favorite, even though it's not as spicy as you would expect. It's everything you want in a bite of fried chicken: crispy skin, juicy meat, and packed with flavor. It's pretty greasy, but I think it's a step up from KFC. Here, you can only carry out. There is a drive thru, or you can go inside and order from the friendly staff. To me, Richie's is a humbling and down to earth place reflected by their employees. I would come here again just for the exceptional service at a fast food restaurant! But when you taste the fried chicken, you'll be hooked too. Keep up the good work Richie's!

Richard's is located on the fringe of Clifton. It serves what would be classified as distinctly southern cuisine. On their sign they advertise five or six varieties of fish that one would be able to get deep fried for their eating pleasure. Chicken, fries, etc. are offered on the menu for an experience similar to Popeye's or any smaller southern soul-food restaurant. My wife and i pulled through Richard's drive-thru simply for cobbler and it was fantastic. Peach cobbler to be exact. The service was prompt and the serving amount we got was more than enough for us, at a steal of a price. Their other prices are also incredibly reasonable. Any restaurant where you can pick up cobbler in the drive-thru is just plain awesome.

I love Richie's and crave it too much for my own good. I don't venture much from my usual, which is the fried chicken and the greens as my side with cornbread. The spicy chicken is also very good, but I prefer the regular. Chicken is always crispy on the outside and super moist on the inside. Can't beat it for the value!

Simply put this is GREAT fried chicken. Tried the spicy and not versions, both were crunchy and juicy. The staff here are super friendly and it feels like a southern fried chicken place. Lots of small talk to be had when not busy. The price is comparable to other fast food chicken places, but the chicken is so much better. Besides chicken there are also fish and steak options. They also have a huge list of your traditional sides like mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, collards, beans, ect. Richie's also offers these gigantic potato wedges, and these live up to their name. It is basically a 1/6 of a potato that has been floured and fried. Tasty if you like starchy steak fries as opposed to the thinner crispier versions. We also tried a quart of peach cobbler that was not memorable. Next time maybe I will get some cheesecake. Pros: Courteous and quick service, succulent chicken, lots of variety, affordable prices, large portions Cons: some sides better than others, location looks a little intimidating Overall: I've found my go to place for when I am hankering for some good fried chicken!

I recently moved to clifton and drive by this place every day. I knew I needed to try it because, come on...who doesn't love fried chicken!? I tried the spicy which was AMAZING. Super crispy and juicy with just enough spice to them. They lost a star for their sides which were mediocre at best. I tried the potato wedges which were just OK, too much potato and not enough crisp for me. I also had the green beans which tasted like the average green bean. My boyfriend went for the chicken strips, these super thin strips definitely tasted like freezer tenders rather than hand battered....skip these and stick with the fried chicken! He had the mashed potatoes and gravy which were comparable to KFC. Unfortunately they forgot my corn bread which I was looking forward to, but I'm sure I'll be back to try them!

Really good fried chicken - if you get it on the bone. Don't order the tenders (I did once and never did again) as they look like something you get from a cheap grocery store's freezer aisle. It's not even whole pieces of chicken but the reconstituted kind you find in McDonald's chicken mcnuggets. The sides are OK, but the real treat here is the fried fish, the fried chicken, and the potato wedges (which are battered in chicken batter). Great price, great hours - open late (3am on some nights).

What he wrote but don't get the 3 stars ... the food here is awsone.. comparinf to other fastfood is stupid but it is just that a great place to get some greens and catfish or whatever striks you on that day.. there are only like 5 millions sides to choses from... its in a depressed area so the pricess are extremly reasonable... there is arnt any tables to eat at which is weird but whatever this place rocks and reminds me of charleston so I love it...

Bottom line is Richie's has some frickin' good fried chicken. Honestly, the prices are pretty comparable, if not better than KFC prices, so there is really no excuse NOT to go to Richie's. The chicken and the sides are many orders of magnitude better than what you can find at KFC. From the spicy fried chicken to the potato wedges to the collard greens to the biscuits, you really won't be disappointed by what you can find at Richie's. First of all, let's talk location. It's on the boundary line between Avondale and Clifton. Honestly, I've never really felt unsafe here, but you can take advantage of their drive-through if you'd rather not leave the comfort of your car. But part of the experience is walking in and looking at the fried chicken under the heat lamps and all the sides, and also deciding from their long menu just how hungry you are. I always opt to walk in and appreciate the familiar, fat cell and saliva-inducing smell of oil, fried meat, and carbs. Second, the service is always courteous. There's a non-accented Southern charm that just makes me imagine how it might be at Sunday dinner with Paula Deen or another Southern grandma figure. You just know that you're about to eat a belly full of love. And I always ask them what they've just recently fried, and they're willing to tell you, because they want you to enjoy your meal. Third, and most importantly, the food: You can choose between original and spicy chicken, but the spicy isn't that spicy, so you can either ask for a mix, or I say, just go for the spicy. They advertise 3 kinds of fish on their sign outside, but I don't like seafood so I can't speak for that. As for sides, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS get the potato wedges. ALWAYS. The other sides are decent, but nothing too exciting: I find the mac and cheese is pretty hit or miss, but that may be more just because I'm not the biggest fan of mac and cheese to begin with. The collard greens may be one of the healthier options, but I'm pretty sure it probably isn't as healthy as you think. The yams are too sweet in my opinion though, so unless that's your thing, you might want to lay off. Finally, every order comes with a biscuit or a roll, and I'd recommend the biscuit. And don't forget the hot sauce! Hot sauce and fried chicken were made for each other...Oh, and napkins, because your fingers will be finger-lickin' greasy! And what's the mark of a good fried chicken? If you can eat it cold the next day, you know it's good. And I've eaten Richie's cold many a time. I honestly have to stop myself from going there too often...

I always looked down on Richie's driving by on either my way to campus or for a weekend back home 3 hours up 75. I'm not saying I'm too good for it, it just never caught my eye. My friends wanted to go on a whim last night saying that it's their favorite local place and the chicken is too die for. Needless to say I'm never overlooking a food place again. We all got dinner boxes. I ordered the spicy with Mac and cheese (by mistake, I said mashed potatoes) and greens. I got the roll but from what I've heard the corn bread is the way too go. You get 3 big pieces of chicken, 2 sides, and your bread for 5.50 You just can't beat that. I threw in a large homemade pink lemonade for 1.50 Also great. This is some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Better and cheaper than KFC. I'm craving some just now writing this review. Needless to say, don't write Richie's off.
