Took my wife for our anniversary. We don't do fine dining much so we were really excited. From the beginning though, I felt the reputation was going to let us down. We had reservations and were sat at a table for 4. The hostess made no attempt to clear the extra placings. When the server showed up, he promptly remove the extras and came back to fill our water. I would be nitpicking if that was what ruined things for me. But when we ordered our drinks, I asked what was on tap and the server told me the basics (Bud Light, miller Light...etc.) and only added in they had Sam Adams Octoberfest. I found out after dinner that they had really good local brews also.We ordered our drinks and started to look over the menu. The server made no suggestions and simply came up after a time and asked what we wanted. My wife loves to indulge in a filet when we decide to spend money to eat and I love Lobster. We each added a side ceaser and I added a side of asparagus. That being said, we were under the impression that sides were ala carte. We enjoyed the salads, but when our food showed up, it was brought out a meal at a time. He dropped her filet first, which had a side of asparagus included..SURPRISE! and then went back to the kitchen to get my food, which was accompanied by a large side of potatoes...SURPRISE AGAIN!!. my wife does not like asparagus and I had a whole extra side added on. Now we had extra sides we didn't know were coming and had purchased additional sides we didn't need. No comment from the server. We chalked it up to just having leftovers to take home. But the potatoes that joined my lobster were undercooked, I had to saw at my lobster with a steak knife to eat it, and while the extra asparagus I had was cooked perfectly, it had no flavor. My wife's filet was cooked medium and was as dry as any sirloin we've ever bought. We were disappointed, but refrained from stopping the server because we were otherwise enjoying each others company. When the conversation turned toward the restaurant, we realized the server hadn't spent more then 10 seconds at our table except when he took our order. He only stopped by 4 times (including taking our order. It seemed he did the absolute bare minimum to accommodate us. When he cleared our plates, I still had an abundance of asparagus, and there was no offer to box it up or inquiry into whether I liked it or even wanted it anymore. It sat next to me, through the check being dropped and picked up. We paid in cash with no change needed and that was the last we saw of our server even though we sat there for another 15 minutes finishing our drinks and the asparagus remained. I eventually got another server standing nearby to box it for me so we could leave. All in all, the service was laughable, the food was not worth the heavy price tag, and we felt as though we wasted a lot of money. We won't be going back to this restaurant.

The power of happy hour! Mon-Fri 4-6:30pm plus reverse happy hour Mon-Thurs 9:30-11pm. Nice! That alone earned the fourth star. They offer a decent selection of cocktails and appetizers all under $10. I enjoyed the fish tacos. Fresh, crispy and filling! I was also pleased with the cocktails made here. Service was just O-K, I would have liked the fella to be a little more attentive. He was all over the place. Overall, great place with a nice atmosphere.

Meh. Average is as average does... Considering what this is: a Steak and Seafood restaurant ... one expects great food ... and ... its just not. Let me start by mentioning that I have only been here for the LATE NIGHT HAPPY HOUR, which, price wise, is AMAZING. $3 beers, $4 well drinks, $5 wines, $6 martinis. Cant beat it! Food options ranging from $2.99 - $6.99 , again, cant beat it. If I was reviewing just the cost for late night happy hour, 5 stars hands down, but unfortunately, there is much more to a restaurant than that. Vodka Soda: Decent pour - tasted the vodka, but not too strong/drinkable. Beef sliders: 3 decent sized sliders with Swiss cheese and caramelized onions. The bread was toasted on the inside but soft when biting into - that was the best part. The onions could have been cooked/caramelized more and the meat was fine. Nothing to write home about, considering its a STEAKHOUSE... but good! I would get them again. Pita and Hummus: STAY AWAY. Maybe I'm spoiled because we have such an amazing selection of hummus in Los Angeles, but this hummus was just not good. I think it was a "Tomato Basil" because it was pink and all in all, I needed more flavor - some garlic, or actual basil (if that's what it was), or ANYTHING would pizazz it up. (That's right, Pizazz it up.) However, the worst part was the HORRIBLE "toasted" pita served with it. The doughy, non flavorful, cardboard triangles were only edible when paired with pizazz-less hummus. Not even worth the $2.99. (Cucumbers were good though!) *Water*: Had to ask for it, which is fine (after alcohol and food was brought to me) and it was "ok" ... Towards the bottom I tasted that faint tap/toilet taste that I hate so, but not at all strong, good enough to drink without lemon.. The vibe and location, however, were perfect. Low lighting, classic feel, great music, kind service - right on Fountain Square and close to all that Downtown Cincinnati has to offer - its a good place to catch a few drinks with friends, but not somewhere to "impress" any foodie!

This was a case of FAR EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS! I normally would never have gone to a 3 star restaurant, but this was in my hotel (Westin) - so very convenient. The stuffed Salmon was absolutely delicious. I hate cheese with seafood, but they made it work! Not only work, sing. The wine recommendation was on point too. All in all, a very satisfying dinner! I will return. PS I should go to more 3-star places!!

I was really reticent to try a chain restaurant that I've visited only on business trips on a hometown night out, but hey...restaurant week. And can you go wrong at $35 three-course prix fixe? (well yes, but it's worth the risk at that price). amazing filet medallions in a wine reduction demi glace, perfectly seared medium rare, wonderful Cab Sauv and unoaked Chardonnay that knocked my socks off. Ambiance elegant, dusky and bit romantic. Perfect service. Pleasantly surprised. Will be back.

We had drinks and appetizers before a Reds game. We both enjoyed our cocktails (love the berry Cosmo!). Hubby loved the clam chowder (I'm allergic to shellfish), and I loved the chicken salad. We thought they handled the pre-game rush very well. We would definitely come back here.

We ate here at 9:00p on Saturday night. About half the restaurant was full. We made reservations were seated quickly. Before ordering drinks I have made it a habit of making sure I know what the drink prices will be. I ask our server and he said he had no idea. I tell him what I'm thinking and ask him to go check, after a couple of request he finally goes off and checks. Our food came, my appetizer of the coconut shrimp was 4 shrimp were severely over cooked. He ask me to cut my steak to make sure it's cooked right. I was taken back by the request that I would need to check the temperature of the steak. Maybe fish places can't make steak? So, overall, it wasn't a good experience for a meal that cost some decent money.

Very Disappointed! We were very disappointed in our visit to M&S on Wednesday evening. We had a party of 9 -- 6 adults, 2 toddlers and an infant. Our reservation was early (5:15) and the restaurant was not crowded at all. Our service was awful! It took 3 attempts to get an iced tea. The restaurant was out of what I would call 2 staples -- cod and mahi mahi......the kids were very good under the circumstances -- but it is unacceptable to me to wait 45 minutes for our food! Unfortunately I don't think we will be back anytime soon!

When I think of McCormick & Schmick's, one word comes to mind: Yum! I have never been disappointed by their food. The selection is great and so is the taste. During happy hour (4-6:30pm) my favorites are the fish tacos or the Firecracker shrimp. For dinner, I really like the stuffed Atlantic salmon. Besides the food, McCormick & Schmick's offers a great atmosphere. The bar area is very lounge like, dimly lit with music playing in the background. It's a lot more casual than the dining area which is a nice place to have a formal dining experience. I really like that McCormick's offers both.

Wow the food was terrible. All my fault that it was my idea to try this place and ruined everyone's night. Who ever manages this place needs to try the food or has horrible taste. Portions for the price are a joke too. Thanks

My review is for their Happy Hour ONLY. It is great! It goes from 4-6:30PM Monday -Friday and then 9:30-11PM Monday - Thursday. The atmosphere is dressy and professional so not the place to bring the kids. The drinks are reasonably priced, but the hero is the Hamburger. Even though it is a seafood place the burger is very good, comes with fries and only a $4 price tag. Happy Hour Menu as of 1-26-14 menus.mccormickandschmic…

I love this place. Last time I was here I was with two other couples and we had a reservation. We were seated quickly but it did take a long time to get drinks and our appetizer orders in. Between the time it took to get all of those out, we were ready to order entrees but had to wait a while to order. They were clearly short staffed that night, and since I'm in the food industry I understood but my boyfriend and our friends definitely did not. It even kind of started to get a little ridiculous for me at times. The waiter was extremely nice and you could definitely tell he was a little stressed and worried about his service, so I gave him an extra large tip. The seafood here is awesome and the ambiance is great. The bar is a great place to sit as well with a view of fountain square. They have a wide selection of sides and alcohol. I'll return of course.

Husband and I enjoyed a complimentary lunch served to Veterans. The special menu was a wonderful representation of their everyday menu, many choices and not the most inexpensive. Our server was very attentive, and we were thanked by everyone from busser to management for our service. We were seated in the bar booths which afforded the chance to watch the tree on Fountain Square being decorated. Bonus!! We started with the Arnold Palmer which involve fresh squeezed lemonade, and delicious coffee. The bread was super fresh and artisan with a glorious chewy crust. I had crab and corn chowder which was so loaded with lump crab and fresh corn it was hard to get a spoon of just broth, bliss. Husband was fork deep in a spicy chicken fettuccine and I in Salmon Rigatoni... No complaints!! Hearty portions, flavouful sauces, gorgeous and fresh ingredients. Thank you so much for this recognition of our service, we will definitely be back for dinner!

The bar had very slow service. Been here about an hour, just got our second drink and placed our order, time 6:27. Order Maine lobster bisque soup. Received our soup at 6:43. Lobster bisque VERY good!. I got Chilean Seabass and it was excellent. My wife got the trio, stuffed shrimp, grilled shrimp and salmon, the was excellent. Four stars for the food three stars for the service

Against my better judgment I came back. The service and ambiance is fine, it's just the food is plain bad. They use such a heavy hand that it ruins the delicacy that is what makes seafood so enjoyable. I've had multiple dishes here and they all lack. Sure this is chain restaurant, but that does not excuse poor execution. I even tried to give them a chance at Taste of Cincinnati where I tried their shrimp tacos. The shrimp was overcooked (as usual) and they used cold flour tortillas. What in the hell... at least put some effort into it.

Food was terrible. Over cooked ahi tuna steak, and then replaced it with a seared tuna that was frozen in the middle. My friend also ordered the sockeye salmon, and didn't receive what she requested. Will not be returning.

We dine at the Cincinnati Downtown location 9-10 times a year. The service is always good and friendly. Tonight however was rather trying. Our server was very nice and friendly but MIA others were having to bring us drinks and check on our meals. She was on the run when I caught her attention for our check. Our server from our last visit spent more time with us than are actual server did! But that wasn't the real issue my husbands food was fine but mine came out wrong not once but twice!!!!! Usually the manager stops by the tables but not tonight then on top of everything else my dining card didn't work and I was told to take care of it from home. We did see the manager as he wasn't hiding. Of course we will go back as one bad experience out of many good ones won't keep us away, and anyone can have a bad day.

I must say that I was very impressed by the response and contact I received from this location. They stated that they would address the issue of inconsistency in taste and flavors. Being a Landry's Select member I was excited to see such follow through by Management at this location. I will definitely try them again when I am in town.

My husband and I went for our six year anniversary,we felt welcomed right away! I didn't realize when I had mentioned it was our anniversary they would great us at the door with a congratulations and a personalized menu. Our waitress Chayanne was fantastic! I can't say enough good things about the place. We plan on making this our special occasion spot from now on. Thanks for making it so special!

Mussels, a shared Caesar salad and fresh fish (steelhead) cooked to perfection coupled with great service made for an almost perfect evening. Wife had the surf and turf special and both were well prepared. The lobster tail was done to perfection and did not even need the melted butter. Our only problem was that we were too full for dessert. Prices seemed fair. Nice by the glass wine list.

I visited McCormick & Schmick's Seafood & Steaks restaurant to eat lunch with my two sons who were in town visiting. The restaurant is in the Fountain Square District, which is a restaurant and entertainment hub. McCormick & Schmick's is in a very nice spot on the corner of East 5th street and Vine facing Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati. Its location is about 3 to 8 blocks from many of the city's sporting venues, theatres, the Contemporary Arts Center, the Aronoff Center for Performing Arts, and the eclectic 21c Museum Hotel. Upon entering the restaurant, I immediately noticed the polished wood furnishings and brass fittings and lighting created a comfortable environment and a relaxed ambience. A smiling host promptly seated us at our table. Our waiter was very friendly, professional, and welcoming. The waiter took our orders the old-fashioned way: by memory. I ordered Blackened Chicken Fettuccini with Mushrooms, Peppers, and a Cajun Cream Sauce. I asked him to replace the mushrooms with broccoli, which he did gladly. While waiting for our food, the waiter served us the hot flavorful complimentary bread. I asked him to bring a saucer of olive oil with grated parmesan cheese and fresh black pepper for dipping the bread. Although we had to ask for more bread, the waiter was mostly on the ball. He brought our food to us in a short time. Although my Fettuccini dish looked appealing, it was somewhat dry. The food was tasty, but not as tasty as it appeared. All entrees included bread, but salads were extra and the food portions were small. Our waiter allowed us plenty of time to enjoy our meal. The menu suggests a 15% - 18% customary gratuity. Landry's Inc. owns McCormick & Schmick's. Landry's is an American privately owned, multi-brand dining, hospitality, entertainment and gaming corporation based in Houston, Texas. Landry's is among the nation's largest and fastest-growing restaurant corporations, owning and operating more than 500 restaurants, hotels, casinos, and entertainment destinations in 35 states and the District of Columbia. While Landry's intended McCormick & Schmick's to be an upscale restaurant, it is perhaps a bit overpriced and overrated. I reluctantly rate the food ever so faintly a crumb above average. Considering our server, the food, and my overall experience while eating at this restaurant, I give it 3.1 stars out of 5. I might return to this restaurant for dinner.

We go here sometimes for birthdays with my in-laws. The service is always very good. The drinks are a little pricey, but they have a nice wine selection. The food is very good. I often get one of the specials; the chef really outdoes him/herself on them. This last time we were there we got the "shrimp kisses" appetizers (shrimp wrapped in bacon and pepperjack cheese)...one word of advice: get two orders...one won't be enough! Mouth-wateringly good! Obviously the seafood is good; that's what they do. Order the special, get some shrimp kisses and a bottle of wine, and relax. They'll take care of you, and you'll have a great night!

Went to the taste and mom had the salmon burger and I had the shrimp taco. Mom really liked her salmon burger while I was disappointed with the shrimp taco, it had good flavor as far as the slaw and spice was. It lacked shrimp and was a let down.

The fact that it was almost completely empty on a Saturday at 6 basically explains this place. While it was nice to go in and get seated right away, we soon understood why it was like that. Im not sure if our waitress was new or not but she didnt seemed to be trained that well. We didnt receive straws, werent asked for the complimentary bread, and she didnt tell us her new until half way through the visit. My girlfriend got the "top sirloin" and i got the Shrimp Scampi pasta. The steak was burnt a bit and tasted as though it should cost no more than $10. The Shrimp Scampi was better and had a nice lemon sweet taste to it. The entire staff overall was very nice; its unfortunate they work at a restaurant with food that isnt cooked very well and is overpriced.

I had take out from here, but this was a romantic, fine-dining place with a bar that seemed well-suited for some night action. The food was just okay though. I ordered the almond-crusted tilapia and it came with butternut squash orzo, green beans and sourdough bread and whipped butter. To me, it kind of looked a little like airport food, and it wasn't bad tasting or anything, but it just seemed kind of average-to-low quality healthwise and taste as well. I would go here for the atmosphere or drinks, but not food, or I would try some other dish to see if it was better. I wish I would have not wasted a Cincinnati meal on this though - I should have gone with Potbelly's or Skyline if I was going to blow my diet, but it is pretty on the outside. I just have to give it two stars because the atmosphere and servers promise so much, but a restaurant is really about the food isn't it?

Great cocktails and late night menu. Late Night Happy Hour from 9:30-11:00!! Staying nearby, this came up on Yelp and we are so glad it did! The Happy Hour cocktails and food were amazing, and we came back again 2 nights later. When travelling for weeks at a time, you don't need 5* every night: this is not 5*, but it is certainly a fantastic place to end a busy day - great service and great atmosphere.

Kinda just had the worst dining experience I have had in a while. I wanted to take my boyfriend there for their happy hour specials.. Always had a good experience in the past. Food literally took 50 minutes.. Carpaccio, stuffed mushrooms, oysters and shrimp. 3/4 cold appetizers. Server was friendly yet after initial drink order, took 20 minutes before taking our glasses and offering another drink. 7 at bar, 2 tables. I just don't understand what happened to this place. Not the fine dining experience I'm used to. Won't be going back. Don't recommend going either.

Happy Hour! Happy Hour! Happy Hour! I have had nothing but great meals here during regular hours, but today I am here to talk to you about a little thing called Happy Hour! McCormick and Schmick's is my go to place for happy hour when I am traveling for business. Every single one is different, but they all consist of great drink prices ($5-6 wine, cocktails) and apps that are $3,$4,$5. Normally including things such as Ahi Tuna, Calamari, dips and sometimes burgers. It is a great place to meet friends in your hometown, or to talk to a bartender about what is happening in a city that you are visiting.

Sad to say that the McCormick & Schmick's in Cincinnati is a poor reflection of the chain's locations in other cities, notably Seattle and Virginia Beach. The friendly waiter with his easy, resonant laughter and ongoing patter did not make up for the fact that the food was mediocre, the wait in a half-full restaurant was excessively long, the coffee was lukewarm, and the prices were excessive for the portions. I waited at least 10 minutes to get anything but water, even though the waiter promised me bread and a martini, which took so long that I considered leaving before they finally arrived. I don't recall waiting so long for my food at any restaurant in recent years. The crusted halibut was tasteless and did not seem fresh. The bread was not the same crusty, delicious stuff that I've had at other M & S locations. The blue cheese wedge salad was delicious, but then it's pretty hard to screw that up. While the flour-less chocolate cake for dessert was excellent, the decaf coffee that accompanied it was almost cold. The waiter told me he'd refill fill my cup after a few minutes, yet even that took interminably long. I was disappointed, I must say, and would never go to this particular restaurant again, no matter how conveniently located it is with respect to my hotel. There are clearly many better restaurants within walking distance in the dowtown area, including the excellent one in my Hilton Hotel, where I ate the night before.

Such a great happy hour! Reasonable prices, nice variety of food and drink choices and a perfect patio for people watching on warm weather days. Also a great option for a business lunch or dinner. The seafood stuffed mushrooms are delicious as are their martinis.

This location is similar to others. The ambience is very sophisticated and the menu is as well. Like other locations, this has a strong business feel and most of its patrons are working professionals who are probably having a lunch meeting or negotiating a deal over dinner. Our server was very nice and attentive. The Shrimp and Andouille Mac & Cheese was very satisfying.

I had a very average mean with a pal today. It cost me about $150 for two steaks, 18 oysters, and a side dish. The server was nice, but this was the worst steak I've ever had from an expensive restaurant.

Overall, McCormick & Schmick's is a good place for an upscale lunch. Especially if you're entertaining clients or celebrating something. I'm a huge fan of their specialty salads...and did I mention that you can add calamari to them?! Win! Overall the environment matches what you would expect, although I find the booths to be extremely uncomfortable with very upright backs and short seats (I'm by no means a giant.) Each time I've visited, I've had the same server who was nice and somewhat attentive, although a little scatterbrained. I should also state that I have only been here for lunch, though I think I would like to check out a happy hour sometime. Not particularly interested in dinner here. I think there are better dinner alternatives in town for upscale seafood, if that's what you're in the mood for.

Let's start with the food. The fish was great but the sides they brought out including the green beans and mashed potatoes were cold. The staff must of been short handed because there was no customer service at all.

Had the steelhead and blue cheese iceberg wedge salad. The fish was very good, and I'm never disappointed with the salad. This restaurant has a great location. Service was pretty good. I keep forgetting about this place because it's downtown. But I guess for the amount of money per person for a meal, that might be the reason I don't go to McCormick and Schmidts that often. I'd rather have a unique experience and a unique meal for the price. Been to other locations in other cities and the experience is usually uniform. Have had filet mignon at the others.

Do you know Jamie? Let me tell you about Jamie. This guy is a freaking ROCK STAR!!!! Wifey comes up with weird cocktails and this bar-tending GOD makes sure the proportions and execution are so spot on that it actually tastes like a drink. We ALWAYS love the drinks here. The food is hard-pressed to reach the high bar of excellence that the drinks set, but it gets pretty darn close. Love the atmosphere, especially when it gets a tad slow. My favorite place to eat is actually at the bar. We sit, watch Jamie do his magic and scout what our next drink will be from the ones he is making for the other patrons. Mary is good too. Her technique is flawless as well.

I dined here briefly on a mother/daughter lunch date. Though seating and ordering was quick, I felt like it took longer than expected for a flatbread and simple pasta dish. I think it's harder to impress with lunch dishes, but I would definitely get their shrimp and andouille mac n cheese. It was a good portioned size with tons of flavor. Side note: I love the atmosphere. Classy with intimate lighting. So...who wants to take me here for date night?

This was the first meal I had in Ohio that didn't make me feel like I was going to have a heart attack/need to go up a size in jeans. Got the shrimp cocktail! OMG! THEY WERE HUGE! So fresh and not deep friend and covered in BBQ/chili like everything else. The tuna tartare and the caesar salad were both fine! But the clam chowder here! YUUUUUUUM! I ordered a 2nd bowl because whatever I was already 10lbs from the 3 prior days I spent eating in the midwest.

Took another couple to M & S on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was not very busy which was a shame because we had a really good experience. Our waitress was fantastic and I made it a point to tell the Manager. Very knowledgeable and not too pushy. Seemed to be on the spot at the right time. We had the shrimp/bacon appetizer per our server's recommendation and it was great. My wife had the chicken and I have seared sea scallops. Our friends had the Chilean sea bass and the tilapia. We all reported our meals to be very good. Nothing fantastic per se, but very good. Portions were a bit small but you didn't feel stuff either. Had a great bottle of white wine that was recommended by the Manager. All told, for 4 drinks, a bottle of wine ($63) four entree's, one appetizer and one dessert the bill came to $312 with tip. Not bad at $78/pp. I would recommend M & S to any fish lover.

Yowza. Color me unimpressed. Had dinner with friends at M&S two weekends ago, and I likely won't be back. Faux Pas #1: I ordered top-shelf bourbon to start my night...and got a tumbler of bourbon and dead bugs. Yes. DEAD BUGS. I politely told the waiter that I would prefer another bourbon without bugs and he rushed off to replace it. He never came back, however, and more than 10 minutes later--after my entire party had received their drinks and toasted to the evening--I had to leave the table to go up to the bar to re-order my bourbon. I explain to the bartender that my waiter never brought my bourbon back and he said, "Oh! He just left with it." Clearly, my waiter had seen me standing impatiently at the bar. I've worked in the service industry before, and I always had enough sense to actually look at what I was taking customers. If something happened to make it to the table that the customer wasn't happy with, I literally RUSHED to rectify the situation. Not the case with my server that evening. Faux Pas #2: It literally took forever for the waiter to come take the table's order after serving us drinks. Generally, when people put their menus down, that is the signal that they're ready to order. Our menus were down and STACKED, but it still took 2-3 of us asking different servers to send ours over before we could begin to order. Faux Pas #3: Less than 1/2 of the table got their food first. The rest came in bits and pieces over the course of the next 10-15 minutes. Really, kitchen? What? All new line cooks with so little experience they can't service an entire table simultaneously? We came as a group and wanted to eat together, so the folks with food waited to tuck into their meals. Of course this meant that by the time everyone had food, a lot of plates were cold. Except for one guy's...he was like, "%$#@ this, I'm eating," and managed to finish his plate before every meal was served. Faux Pas #4: Poor service. Don't get me wrong, the staff was nice, just not very efficient. The restaurant was NOT full, and there were plenty of wait staff around...they just seemed more interested in standing against the walls. Perhaps I'm being unfair and they were all in training. Or maybe since people weren't sitting in their stations that meant they weren't allowed to pitch in elsewhere. Who knows? I will admit that when my food DID arrive, it was tasty. I absolutely enjoyed my overpriced bowl of clam chowder, and the oysters were delicious (even if the waiter couldn't tell me the differences between the ones offered...I could tell he was just making it up as he went along). In the end, they comp'd my bourbon and were full of apologies about the bugs in my drink, but yeah...no.

Was ok. I had the seared sea scallops and they were pretty good, but the person I was with had a steak and said that it was ok at best. Pretty pricey and the hostess sat a member of my entourage at a separate table even though he said he was there with my party. So we sat apart for 25 minutes before we realized we were both there.

We went here on Friday night before "The Book of Mormon" (go, it's very good). They held two tables of 8 for us which was nice. Our server, I think his name was Byron, was fantastic, but overall they struggled with a party of 16 because a few plates weren't hot. It wasn't the best value. Most off the fish entrees range from $20-30, that's a lot for a piece of fish and a couple small sides. However, the flavor was pretty good. A couple highlights were the Horseradish Crusted Steelhead and the Stuffed Shrimp.

You know, I've been to a few McCormick and Schmick's, but this one didn't really live up to what I've become accustomed to. Understand, the food wasn't bad at ALL, but it was just OK. My server was wonderful, and the service I received from everyone there was friendly and extremely professional. No problems there! My server brought me two samples of red wine to try as I wasn't familiar with the labels they had available. I thought that was a very nice thing to do. Prices were reasonable, and I will definitely go back, because I think this average food might have been a fluke. Stay tuned for an update!

My favorite dish is the The Tilapia Cashew Crusted fish! As my side, I like to get their mash potatoes. So fresh and delicious. Great wine selection as well. The food and service is always great when we come here. I know it's a chain restaurant, but I love the quality of the fish!

Underwhelmed. We had the calamari appetizer and the calamari was few and far between while the dish was mostly fried artichokes, jalepenos, carrots and some other vegetables. My wife had the lobster bisque which she swore was amazing last time she went. This time the crab meat was giant chunks that required chopping up which was very tough. My stuffed salmon was pretty good but nothing to be excited about.

I went here for lunch. I had the seafood trio. The salmon was grilled perfectly with good searing. The stuff shrimps (2 pieces) were also tasty plus the grilled shrimp (3) has a lot of flavor but they were slightly overlooked. The trio also had some tasty mashed potatoes with some green string beans and shredded carrots. I also had the salad wedge. The blue cheese dressing had a lot of flavor with the bacon. The lettuce wasn't as green as it should been but it didn't affect the flavor. The service was speedy enough for a quick lunch.

Oh, McCormick & Schmick's. Why couldn't you be better? It's not that this chain upscale seafood restaurant was bad ... it just wasn't good by any means. A purely mediocre experience, but with prices way way way too high to match that level of, "eh." This spot is a cornerstone of downtown ... literally. At the corner of 5th and Vine and right across the street from Fountain Square, it's hard to miss this giant building with the bronze fish statue attached to its second floor. This place is always busy and since it's a large restaurant, there are tons of people milling about. Trying to get to your table is a pain. Trying to get to the bathroom is a pain. It feels like navigating a TGIFriday's with the tight spaces and tons of people - only this is supposed to be fine fining. I was so disappointed with the food. I started with a cup of the crab bisque which felt like it was sitting in a lukewarm pot for hours. There was nothing fresh about it. (I don't actually mind when a restaurant does this, as I know its common practice, but when I can tell, that's when it becomes a problem.) Plus, and I know this is a small thing but as a New Englander it annoyed the hell out of me, there were no oyster crackers! Saltines in bisque? Seriously? No... I got the Mahi Mahi as my main course and it was tasty. Lightly charred with a nice corn salsa on top and pineapple risotto beneath. It was good but almost $30 worth of good? No. Not even close. The table shared a dessert which was three different types of chocolate - and none blew me away. Again, it felt like they'd been prepared days ago and kept waiting in a fridge to be nuked in a microwave. Gross. There were a few things I liked. I wedge salad, which was basically just a giant sliced up wedge of lettuce with tomatoes and dressing, was fresh and fantastic - plus they come over and ask if you'd like bacon and blue cheese on it. Yes and yes. And our waiter was very attentive and kind. He made suggestions, was very attentive and was always there when I wanted him to be. Thumbs up to good service. But still, this could not beat the fact that I walked out disappointed with just about everything in the meal. There are many, many, many amazing upscale dining options in Cincinnati that you can choose from. This is not one of them.

Landry's recently bought them out and I have noticed a change (not for the better). No valet parking validations, no amuse if you are a preferred member, increased prices on steaks, smaller portions (didn't have room to shrink) on the combination dinners. This seems to be going on around the country too. I quit going to the Pittsburgh one since they killed valet parking. With the construction you can't park nearby when there is a show going on.

First of all, don't judge. I know this is a "chain", but their food is GOOD! Food: I ordered the Stuffed Shrimp Lump Crab Stuffed Shrimp, Red Pepper White Cheddar Mash 19.95. The shrimp stuffed with crab was incredible, but can I tell you that the Red Pepper White Cheddar Mash was to die for! They are probably the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. Server: I wish I could remember her name. She was SO helpful, took time to make great recommendations, and she was right on. 5 Stars for the service I received. Parking: It would probably be awful. I just walked from my hotel.

I tend to stay away from chain type restaurants when I'm out of town (why go somewhere I can go to at home?), but alas, some friends picked this one for dinner. The food is decent, but way overpriced for what you get ( I had the shrimp trilogy at $27). Waiter was lovely though.

Big overpriced chain restaurants are not generally my thing, unless I'm in the mood to talk to some dude who is in Cincinnati for business. They haven't had a conversation in days, so I get all sorts of stories. Something about an anonymous ear at the bar makes people spill their deepest, darkest secrets. When M&S started their happy hour (appetizers for $3-4-5, drinks same prices), I visited more often. What should be a great patio is generally too smoky- one person smoking and the small space and overhang of the building makes it feel like i'm eating from an ashtray. Inside was usually our destination before moving on to the bars. When considering venues for a Friday happy hour, we chose M&S when our first choice, Chart House (who runs a similar deal) deemed too smoky. CH does happy hour on the deck Monday-Thursday, but wouldn't bend the rules for us to avoid the smoking Friday night regulars. The point being, we would have been easy to impress that evening from a big overpriced chain restaurant happy hour standpoint. We were hitting the tail end of the happy hour so we wanted to quickly get settled. My friends asked if the happy hour specials were available on the patio (it didn't occur to me to ask because I had been on the patio for several M&S happy hours) and the hostess didn't know. After a few moments of looking at unrelated pieces of paper as though they would have the answer, she told us to ask at the bar. We headed back and asked at the bar. They told us to ask the hostess. One bartender, who has been there since the place opened, mouthed to me that we could sit outside. While the servers argued amongst themselves, I dragged my confused friends outside. I should have told our server that being fabulously gay did not mean he could be outright rude (when my friend asked how much their cheapest champagne was, he said, "Honey, you're wearing Tiffany! You can afford it!" Yes, he really did). He knew very little about the menu and didn't offer much in the way of service but he was at least entertaining, in the same way we were entertained by some passerby fencers and a lady wearing cartoon pajamas and trying to go in the side door of M&S and what ended up being a small fire in an ashtray stand. But the lone star rating isn't based on any of that. It was based on our food. I got sweet potato fries and asked for remoulade on the side. They didn't have remoulade at a seafood restaurant. If you wondered, like I did, what they served with their crab cakes, it was a spicy lemon aioli, which I ended up getting. The fries were ok, but my chicken quesadilla was covered in mayonnaise. It was supposed to be the spicy lemon aioli (which would also make no sense), but it was just mayo, squeezed in zigzags like a toaster streudel. The hummus was inedible- I literally spit it out. And I turned down the offer of an oyster from what my friends ordered. I don't turn down oysters, even in the form of a shot with vodka and hot sauce. In other words, don't go there.

Late Dinner on a Tuesday night. 9:30pm. I know...tough to get a decent meal so late. Cold Bread Plates Abruptly thrown on table Combo of Mahi Mahi & Scampi was a children's portion size...flavors were ok, but food came out cold. Mussels...best dish of the night. Tuna Tare Tare...about a 3oz portion for $10. pitiful....tasted fresh... poor table side service. Cocktails were great. I know .......I know....wtf are you eating seafood in Ohio....?? Place is nice and great location......... but a breaded Tilapia 4oz on the menu for $25 is insulting......ummmmm....hate to tell yall....but Tilapia is less than $3/lb.... Check please........

The oysters are of questionable quality. The kitchen apparently has no problem sending out empty shells or (worse yet) sickly oysters. But the lump crab stack was yummy. I just hope I can keep it down tonight after having spat out the rotten oyster.

M&S has one of the best happy hours downtown. Where else can you get a burger and fries for $3.95? It was a gorgeous day downtown so we sat on the patio. Service is always iffy on the patio but on Tuesday it was perfect. Drinks were brought timely and food was delicious.

I had the seafood trio. I was disappointed with the portion size and the time it took to serve. I think I waited about 25 minutes for delivery of the entree. The overall quality was just average. For the money it would probably be best to go somewhere else.

It was better than expected. I did not have any hope because I head so many bad things about this place recently. The only reason I decided to visit the restaurant is because I have a gift card from a friend of mine. The server was friendly and attentive enough but did not know well about the wine. It was not a big issue because I knew what I wanted to get anyway. The oysters tasted great but I felt they oysters were not prepared carefully. They look like somebody just threw into a bowl of ice or something. I hoped better handling on precious oysters. Other dishes like crab cake, salmon, and shrimp all tasted great. I could not complaint anything. But I have to admit that there was no impressive hook on any dish. The bottom line is this is not a bad place, but not a great one either. I would not go there for food very often considering the price.

I had the ,stuffed shrimp for an appitizer with champange to start, followed by Salmon and asparagus pasta for lunch on a weekend. We were celebrating my 28th birthday. The server was friendy, the service was good, but the food and champange were lacking. The food was tasteless, bland, and over priced. For an $80 LUNCH (not including tip) I know I can recieve a much better lunch elsewhere.

Our server David was terrific, a true customer service professional. The appetizers were tasty but the American Kobe burger was terrible. Dry, tasteless, an obviously pre-formed frozen patty, and for $14? I know McCormick's isn't a burger place but when a high end restaurant can't make a simple burger properly, it really makes you wonder.

not only was the service very slow, but the steaks my wife and I had were the worst I've had in a long time, we thought the mashed potato's were from a box. any chain steak restaurant is way better. I give this negative stars if I could.

I was at M&S with my husband on Saturday night at 7:00pm, We didn't have reservations but we were able to find seats at the bar without a problem. We decided to eat dinner at the bar since the bartenders and servers were pretty entertaining! The wine and beer prices were pretty average for downtown Cincinnati and we never had to wait for another drink for long. The bar area is definitely less formal and more fitting for my husband and me as we weren't looking a long drawn out dinner (we were heading to Toby Keith's afterwards). My husband and I decided to order several appetizers so we could have a variety. However, my plans to eat their oh so yummy calamari all by myself were thwarted! I heard someone say, "86 the calamari!" Not the three words I wanted to hear! Especially at 7:00pm on a Saturday! My husband got to learn what "86" meant really quick! Wallowing in my disappontment, I decided on the steamed mussels while my husband ordered the Fried Oyster app. The mussels were so tender (definitely not like the Chinese buffet places!) and we had some sourgough bread to dip in the sauce. Yum-O! The fried oysters were tasty too...not too much breading and you could actually taste the oyster! The Lemon Tobasco Aioli was a little too lemony for me but I am not a huge fan of lemon....why cover up something as yummy as a fried oyster?? Still hungry, we ordered a salad (salad is salad) and I ordered the Coast to Coast Tuna that was comprised of Seared Ahi Tuna and Tuna Tartare and the husband decided on the Kobe Beef Carpaccio. I'm so glad we ordered these! The seared tuna was cooked just right and the tuna tartare had a nice taste of wasabi mixed in with it. It was served with 3 crispy wontons that gave a nice texture as well. The Kobe Beef Carpaccio was the big hit (and it was the least expensive of the bunch! The arugala salad added a nice flavor. I would totally eat this "meal" again! And sit at the bar...makes me miss the service days...not!! Couldn't give it 5 stars because they ran out of the calamari...shame...shame...shame!

Celebrated our 15th Anniversary here. Everything was wonderful. The food was perfectly prepared. Our server, Chris, was excellent. They even printed "Happy 15th Anniversary" on our menus which the chef signed as a momento. We will definitely return.

Went on a Monday night with 4 others. Waiter was very pleasant but very slow. Food was VERY disappointing. Ordered the blackened mahi mahi: $27 for a cube of fish that was about 3 inches x 3 inches by 1/2 inch. Overcooked and dry. The potatoes ordered never came so we had to ask: they came for dessert and were on the bill. The wine was cooked, which means that it was stored next to something warm. Needless to say a disappointing experience.

Had reservation for 4:45 on New Years Eve to celebrate Anniversary (1-1-14). Made reservation about 3 weeks in advance. On 12-31-13 was called to nursing home to be with my mother who was on her death bed. Called restaurant to see if we could move reservation to 6PM as we were not going to be able to make 4:45. Manager advised me she could not look or check because they were really booked, but if we wanted to walk in we could take our chances. She made no comment about our conversation and appeared to not even care about our situation. Hung up, not feeling very good about the conversation. My mother passed at 4:40pm. Did not bother to try and go to restaurant as we felt not very appreciated.

We sat down and the a/c was blazing down on our head, on a nice cold wintery day. We moved, but it was still breezy. Amoung the moving, I ordered a drink and by the 3rd try, they got it right. To make it up, the waitress offered us both a cup of soup. Strange trade...I didn't even want soup, but my friend got a free cup of soup out of my negative drink experience. Ok... Then we ordered 3 appetizers; Shitake Fries (good), Calamari (my friend said it was good) and one other thing, but it escapes my memory so that says it all. We moved on to dessert which was a house made turtle cheese cake with crushed cashews. It was the best thing we had. I also ordered a Swirl Martini to go along with it. My friend who got the free soup, took a sip, only to find a piece of glass in his mouth. I guess he earned that free cup of soup after all! The menu is VERY similar to another restaurant in town, but comparably speaking, the ambiance is much better at McCormick & Schmick's. However, that's not enough to bring me back. I pass, thanks!

Service was just on par with Waffle House. Not that I am a big fan of bread, but for it not to be served seemed a bit cheap. Appetizer plates weren't removed before the salads were served so plates were staking up- just not impressed. . Food was standard, nothing exceptional served tonight. I would skip this and would not go again especially at this price point. Don't waste you time or money.

3.5 Stars The service is outstanding, and I'm looking forward to giving this place another chance to make its way up to a 4 star rating. In all honesty, it was likely my fault. I ordered the "surf & turf" special, which was stupid. I'm better than that... Why would I order a steak from a seafood restaurant? I have not a clue. Anyways, it was an upscale seafood restaurant steak (aka not that good). The shrimp were pretty good. I need to give this place another chance to see its full potential. Its clear I need to order seafood to accomplish this. I had fresh oysters on another occasion, and they were spectacular. This is probably a four star restaurant, but my only entree was far from great leaving it at 3.5 stars.

Let me qualify this review by saying that I was a server for 3 years in college so it's pretty much impossible to get a complaint out of me. Whenever I feel like complaining at a restaurant I remember when I had bad nights as a server and give the staff the benefit of the doubt. That said, what I experienced Saturday night at this location was inexcusable. It was so bad I sought out the manager to complain for the first time at any restaurant in my life. First of all, food is expensive. I knew that going in but I expect great service for that. The service was incredibly slow and they were not busy at all. The food was okay...can't really complain but definitely overpriced for what you get. We only saw our server maybe 3 times and each time we asked for something it took a bare min. of 20 minutes to get it We ordered two pieces of cake for our friend's birthday, which took about 30 minutes to arrive and that was only after I stopped our server to remind him we were still waiting for it. I say "stopped our server" because he was pretty much absent the entire night. In fact I'm not even sure he was our server because other people brought us our food and dessert. When the desert finally arrived we asked for our checks. Another 20 minutes or so later we were all quite ready to leave and still no checks. At no point did anyone stop by and say "sorry about the delay" or anything like that..even after I mentioned to our server that I was a little unhappy with how slow things were. Wondering if I'd ever get my check I went in to speak with the manager to tell him 1) the service was incredibly slow and 2) that we were ready to go and needed our checks. The only thing I wanted was to get my check and maybe hear an apology for the slow service. Without saying anything, the manager crumpled up the dessert check he had in his hand (presumably comping it) and then pointed to the wrist band I had on from an event I had just come from and implied that I was drunk. Needless to say being accused of being drunk because you were unhappy with the service is pretty insulting.

Writing a review on this place is difficult for me but after contemplating I have decided to keep it short. I was not bowled over with this experience here. I have been to the original in Portland and my favorite location is in Seattle. I was thrilled when they made it to Chicago as well. However, growth and expansion is not always good especially when you are known for "the freshest seafood and primarily serving Pacific Northwest (United States) style seafood" It is hard to accomplish this directive with 80 locations. The food was okay. I was not impressed as I had hoped for the Parmesan Tilapia. The crabcake was dismissive. It actually made me think of the one that I recently experienced at Main St. Grille in Mishawaka earlier this month. I requested the Lobster Bisque and it was just sweet. TOOO sweet. I was wondering where a little fresh added lobster was when I figured out that it was at the bottom of the bowl, chopped up lobster claw that was tough. Wrong, just wrong. My companions were feeling the same way as me. They too were not feeling the freshness and care of preparing their food. Near the end of the meal we were wondering where we should have gone. I am not saying the food was horrendous just not up to par as on visits past. Sub par. The service was fine. I thought that our server did a good job. He navigated us through the meal and made sure that the table was cleared and glasses full. He did make a point to tell us after our bottles of wine arrived that he brought us clean glasses. What was that all about? Would I go back. For dinner, probably not. For HAPPY HOUR, heck yeah. They have a great happy hour and the prices are awesome.

good crab legs. walking distance. crappy service. if you go here and assume you will be waiting for a while, then it is a 4 star spot. if not, then 3. kinda pricey, but not bad. and again, i must mention the crab legs - they really are good. they also have a nice banquet room upstairs - go in the westin entrance to get to it. it's a sweet spot for events.

I've gone to this restaurant a couple of times and the first time had an excellent meal and excellent service so my expectations were high. The second time I went it was "fine" but not the outstanding meal that I had experience the first time. Unfortunately, they did not deliver on this visit and it unfortunately merits a bad review. It all kind of started off on the Wrong Foot to begin with: We were asked to wait for almost 25 minutes to be seated despite having a reservation. I understand that this happens from time to time but the Hostess was not very friendly, offered no reason for the delay and just pointed at the lobby and said, "sit down and we'll call you." We were finally seated and couldn't help but overhear another nearby table complaining to the server who ultimately had to give them some sort of comp or discount for bad service and poor food. They were clearly upset about their experience and I tried not to let that influence me. However, it wasn't long before I could understand their plight! Our server, who was young and enthusiastic, was also scattered and unfocused and seemed to disappear for great lengths of time! We were seated, asked for a drink order and because we wanted a chance to review the drink menu were left waiting for 15 full minutes before she came back to ask if we had decided on both drinks and our entree without bothering to tell us about the Specials or ask if we had any questions. She seemed to be in a real hurry to get our orders in so we ordered a bottle of wine and made a choice on our respective meals. At that time I also ordered a salad, which was delivered promptly. The salad looked like it could have been good, but was so drenched in the vinegarette dressing it was literally inedible. The server never came back to ask how it was and when she saw the uneaten salad cast aside on the table she just grabbed it and ran. I honestly believe that a good server would have taken notice and asked if something was wrong with the salad. I barely touched it but she ran away so quickly I didn't even have a chance to make a comment about it! Then, a funny thing happened....she disappeared with that bad salad....and 10 minutes later, no server....20 minutes later, no server....30 minutes later, no server! We had to stop another server and ask if we could get water refills. 35, 45, 50 minutes later, despite trying to flag someone (anyone down)....still no server, we had finished our bottle of wine by that time and were thoroughly confused as to what could possibly be taking so long. Nearly 55 minutes after ordering, the server shows up with our meals with no explanation, no apology and again runs off before we have a chance to react. My husband ordered a steak medium rare, which was so grey and grisly and overcooked it was rubbery and the texture was bizarre and the risotto was as bland as wallpaper paste - in both color AND texture! Truly god-awful. My sea bass was over-cooked and the skin was soggy, the fingerling potatos were stale, lukewarm/cold and had been clearly sitting around for a good 20 minutes before they bothered to bring it to the table. We both decided that we were not eating what had been served and we'd rather leave hungry than eat a truly terrible meal and had no choice but to complain to the manager. To the manager's credit, our entire meal was comped that night due to all of the mishaps along the way. He said they had been having a "very bad night in the kitchen" which was apparent because we were not the only people getting discounts and comped meals that night. A total disaster from start to finish: total time wasted on a bad experience, bad service and bad food: nearly 2.5 hours of my life that I'll never get back! I will definitely think twice about returning. Despite my initial good experience there a year or so ago, each experience has been worse than the next. I have been three times now and that's enough to get a pretty good feel for the place. Sorry, McCormick & Schmick's...I wanted to like you!

Unfortunately, all the other reviews on here about the incredibly slow service were right. I made out reservation for 6 on Yelp for 7:45 PM. We were continuously told just a few more minutes to set our table. We weren't sat until 8:15 PM. Keep in mind, no one else was waiting but us. Then, three of us ordered a mushroom and goat cheese stuffed cod that was talked up by our waiter. 20 minutes after ordering we find out the dish is no longer available. Instead, I picked the mahi mahi and it was fatty. Maybe if we hadn't waited so long to be sat we could have gotten the dish we wanted...

Had tickets to the Gabriel Iglesias concert and I decided to take the family to dinner before the show. My wfe wanted seafood and so we ended up in here. It seemed a bit pretencious at first but Alex our waiter put us right at ease. The food was great and the service was excellent. Some of the food portions were a bit small but filling. Be ready to spend some money but this dinner combined with the show made for a fantastic night.

Headed over at 11:30 for an early lunch, were asked if we had a lunch reservation (we did not), and sat in the bar by the window. Rena was our server and was right over with a drink and some bread. The decor is traditional, very nice and classy, and they had stained glass lights with Cincinnati team logos on the bottom. We ordered arnold palmers for drinks, but were served decaf coffee instead of tea, and the horrible taste is still in mouth. Rena apologized and brought over fresh glasses. I HATE that they charge for Arnold's by the glass, we were never told that, but saw it on the bill. TOTAL BS - that is why I will never return to Harry Carry's in Chicago. We each ordered a clam chowder and I thought it was awful, but Brian really liked it. Be AWARE that it is a very SMALL cup for $4.75. The rolls were not warm, and were marginal at best. They did have 10 specials for under $10, but I went the bacon cheddar burger route. It was pretty bad, overcooked and with out much flavor. Fries were soggy, cold, and not good. Brian loved his Fish Tacos. When we left at 12:30 they had a pretty good crowd in there. I would never return and they should kick them out of the chain! 2 Cup Chowder 9.90 Fish tacos 9.95 Cheeseburger, bacon 10.95 3 Arnold Palmer 8.85 Total - $42.23

Was in Cincinnati on business and had the pleasure of dining here. Very nice place; service was excellent; waitress was very personable. The food was delicious! I had stuffed shrimp and a fillet; definitely coming back!

Outstanding service! The seared rare Ahi Tuna was great, The Mahi Mahi was good, just not as good as the Ahi Tuna. Even more impressive was Brandi our waiter. Not wanting a full bottle, but wanting to have my guest understand what malolactic fermenentation does to a chardonnay, I asked her for a glass to try. Explaining to Brandi that it was what adds the buttery flavors to a Chardonnay she returned with 3 samples from the bar and allowed us to pick which glasses of wine to have. Have not had that type of care and service in a long long time, Brandi rocks in my book! The meal was great. worthy of 4 stars. We will definitely be coming back to this restaurant many more times in the future

The good was ok but the proportions are small & it's way over priced.

We had always had great experiences here, but in the last few months after Nov. 2012, when we had visited the food had gone downhill. We had purchased a loyalty card based on our previous experiences. Went in December and January and both times disappointing. Wanted to make sure that it wasn't a fluke. Hope things change.

Loved it! Every course was as great as the previous! I didn't want the meal to end! The ahi was great, the kobe was fantastic and the steelhead was to die for! Don't forget to try the walnut salad and the chocolate pot de creme!

Well 3 1/2 stars. We stopped in on the Saturday night of Oktoberfest. It is right off the square and in the middle of the action. A few tables open inside and outside. We opted for the outside and people watched. The manager seated us with promise of a waitress. Non in sight for 10-15 minutes. The manager walked by and we asked again. He was very apologetic and took our drink orders and disappeared, not sure where he found the ladies, but the outdoor area was soon busy with the activities of three waitress. From there, all went well, A order of sweet potato fries, spring rolls and a seafood fettuccine and we were back out wandering the fair. All in all, it was what I expected from this chain, nothing special, just good food and cold drinks.

Happy hour at the bar might have been the best EVER... 2.95 1/2lb burger with fries. Needless to say, I left feeling pretty good. Salmon cakes were a 10, good drinks.

Do you folks not realize that this is a chain restaurant? And, it isn't even a good national chain at that. Like every other M&S, the seafood is substandard and reminds me of eating frozen Kroger brand fish sticks more than it reminds me of eating actual fresh fish. Let's face it - southwest Ohio is not an opportune location to enjoy fine seafood fare. So, avoid it at this chain. That leaves the rest of the menu, which is like a menu that you could find at any other chain restaurant - random chicken dishes, a burger here and there, and some salads. This is completely underwhelming to me. Here's my review: YAWN

We went for Valentine's dinner this year. We were very last minute with our big V-day plans so we called the day before and were happy that McCormick & Schmick's could get us in...not until 9:30, but hey, we took it! We got to the restaurant a little early, 9:15, and were told our table wasn't ready yet. We walked towards the bar but changed our minds when we realized the bar and the area surrounding it was packed (McCormick & Schmick's does take walk-in business and it is located underneath a hotel, it seemed a number of business travelers had decided to enjoy apps and drinks at the bar that night). We were instead content to sit on a little bench in the waiting area until our name was called. On a normal night, I'd venture to say that I would have no issue with showing up at this restaurant in jeans and a nice top...but as it was Valentine's, the majority of the couples we saw were dressed up (as were we). The atmosphere is elegant but not super fancy by any means. The menu here is printed twice-daily and showcases a number of fresh fishes that can be prepared in any way that can be found on the menu. We both decided to go with already put together and thought out entrees, I had the cashew encrusted Tilapia, which I think is almost always on the menu at McCormick's. It was yummy and fresh, the fish was moist while the cashews remained crunchy. My date had the scallops, perfectly seared and served with mashed potatoes at his request. For dessert we tried the Valetine's Day special, which was a combination of chocolate covered strawberry, chocolate mousse, and chocolate cake. I'm ashamed to say that I ate almost the entire plate before my boyfriend got a morsel. Perfect for chocoholics, but I don't think it's on the menu everyday :( Kinda pricey but comparable to Mitchell's and less expensive than Mount Adams Fish House...our service was impeccable, too.

Probably my favorite chain restaurant. It was so good, I didn't even know it was a chain when I ate there a while back. HA! I can't really remember what I had, but I always look fondly back on the meal and the experience. I remember both my waiter and the bartender as being exceptionally polite and willing to converse with me. I didn't feel rushed and neglected like I sometimes do at chains. I'd definitely go back if the chance presented itself.

When I stay at the Westin, I must get my Oyster fix at McCormick & Schmick's. Fresh, briney and delicious. I love Oysters on the half shell but I don't eat them as much as I used to (some restaurants don't buy from companies with proper credentials). No need to fear Oysters at this restaurant. The halibut I had on the last trip was cooked perfectly. And the Bloody Mary was well made. Can't go wrong here.

I travel to Cincinnati every month, and M&S serves up decent food next to the Westin where I stay. But I can't believe how expensive it is for what it is. Good but not exceptional enough for a $40 meal without alcohol... went to the Bistro across the street - 25 dollars for a nice healthy meal... will limit the Schmick in the future. One note - the happy hour has very decent prices and is a better value.

Talk about service with a smile! This place was great. After making the stupid decision of staying in a shitty hotel to try to save my company a little bit of moolah during my business trip, I decided to treat myself to one helluva meal. Well, McCormick & Schmick's was a great choice. My waiter was probably the best waiter I'd ever had in my entire life. Very nice, fast (which I love), consistently checking in and bringing me bread when I didn't even ask for it! And, it was sour dough...my fave! The portions were the perfect size; not too big and not too small. Their fish is caught fresh and they have a very wide variety to choose from. My next favorite part was the dessert. The Creme Brulee was absolutely amazing and was a nice finishing touch to what was by far a very satisfying meal. The best part is that the entire staff was friendly. Always smiling, asking if I needed anything. Maybe they felt bad for me because i was eating by myself and drowning myself in wine to celebrate the near end to an interesting and somewhat tortuous week? Not sure but whatever the reason, it was greatly appreciated. Definitely try this place out They're located all over the country.

My husband and I went there for the first time on New Years Eve. Of course we made a reservation with no problem. The service was good but it was loud in there. We got a private booth but there was a vent overhead blowing cold air. So my husband had to eat with his jacket on. Everything is "a la carte" except for the bread. The Food (what you got of it) was excellant but if you go be sure to ask about PORTION SIZE and it was PRICEY. Of what my husband ordered, by the menu description we expected to carry some home. However the main course was no bigger than an appetizer. We didn't dare order wine or dessert. He wanted to make a stop to get some sliders when we left. We are glad 2010 is over with. We thought we would try to make a good time out of a lousy year. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. It was just another disapointment. Brenda and Richard H

Great seafood. Nice atmosphere. SPECTACULAR HAPPY HOUR! There's a 2 drink minimum for they're happy hour food specials, but it's worth it. The drinks are strong and the food is amazing. They have 6 entrees/apps for $1.95, and 4 more for $3.95. Burgers with fries, fish tacos, steamed muscles, spinach and artichoke dip, all $1.95! You get the idea. Also a great place to go take your lady for dinner. Great seafood!

My wife and I went to McCormick & Schmick's for our anniversary dinner. We have been to the McCormick & Schmick's in Indianapolis and were VERY impressed. We were NOT impressed this time. The service was excellent. They gave us personalized menus, knowing it was our anniversary, and sat us in one of the WORST tables in the place. We were sat right next to the entrance to the kitchen and a side door to the very cold evening. There was a window at the side of the table to the kitchen and there must have been a dressing table there because every time we looked in that direction there were people looking about, talking, working, and watching us. Not conducive to a romantic dinner. The food was OK at beast, not very flaverable, kind of flat. The portions were tiny! Having been to a McCormick & Schmick's before, and enjoyed it. we expected MUCH more.

We went there for lunch before a holiday show at the Taft. I know it's a chain, and you just can't get away from that with the decor and pictures on the wall, but we were still looking forward to a nice lunch. One hour and 45 minutes later, it was all I could do to not literally run out of there. I know it was a weekend, but no lunch should take that long. We had two three year olds and while it was nice that they brought their food out with the appetizer/salads, by the time the adults got their meal, the kids were done and ready to leave. It seemed much more like the "pace" of service was that of a nice dinner than that of a lunch. Was not pleased and frankly would not return.

This is a fairly new restaurant here in Cincinnati. I believe it only opened a few months ago. At the moment it's somewhat masked by the Fountain Square construction, but it is well worth finding. The atmosphere and prices lean towards fine dining, but you get what you pay for here. The dining room is well laid out and beautiful with lots of wood, mirrors, and soft lighting. The place is great for dates or whomever you might want to impress. Our server was very attentive and gave very good recommendations. I forgot to ask how often their menu changes, but I imagine it is quite often. They pride themselves on using fresh ingredients. I ordered parmesan-encrusted tilapia. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I took a taste of my dinner guests' meals, and they were equally good. Everything was wonderful! So the bottom line: Great atmosphere + great seafood = Great restaurant!

Terrible service. Our $60 bottle of wine arrived and sat on the table for 20 minutes unopened while the waiter had to take care of an "emergency". I ordered a boneless ribeye and was told 15 minutes later that there were no boneless ribeyes left but I could have a bone in ribeye for $20 more. I told the waiter that I thought I should get the alternate ribeye for the same price since it wasn't my fault they ran out. The waiter never returned until the food was being served and proceeded to slam my steak down telling me "you've been appeased". No, I wasn't. The steak was bloody rare and I ordered medium rare. The second bottle of wine for our table of 4 received the same delivery and wait for uncorking while I waited for my meal to be re-prepared. As the waiter proceeded to pour the remainder of the 1st bottle into the other 3 guests glasses and ignored me he was kind enough to tell me the candle on the table was electric and I wouldn't burn myself reaching for the wine to pour it myself. I never ate the recooked carcass when it arrived sometime later that night, I put it in a bag for my dog which was unfair to my dog but I wasn't eating anything at this dump. If you want good food in Cincy eat at a Jeff Ruby's, skip this chain restaurant.

It is ok food but so overrated. The first time I went I took my mom for her birthday and her fish was not fully cooked! How embarrassing! They did take it off the check but she had to wait for another entire meal. The second time my husband and I went we sat at the bar and enjoyed our cheap burgers and fries. There is really nothing special at all about this place but I am happy it is downtown and replaced the dirty 5th and Vine bar that was there.

We had a poor experience recently at this restaurant. The service was very slow. It took 20 minutes to get a desert. We were scheduled to go to a show so we had to cancel the desert for lack of time. The coffee that was served was only luke warm and it was in a very small cup. A few sips and the coffee was gone. There were no refills in the 20 minutes we waited for desert. Also the portion sizes are very small.

A terrible experience from start to finish, except for the mixed drinks. A true mixologist saved this from being a 0-star, $50+/pp experience. The Shrimp A La Diavolo was a crustacean disaster served in a parmesan cornucopia--a cornucopia of crap. It had none of the flavors an "a la diavolo" dish should have. The few shrimp were overcooked, and the bulk of the dish was composed of sundried tomatoes, spinach (not mentioned anywhere in the description) and mushrooms (again, never mentioned...). The entire dish had a vinegary flavor, and was anything but worth the price on the menu. Dessert was another disappointment--hot caramel apple crisp a la mode. Too bad our paltry quarter-scoop of ice cream was almost completely melted by the time it made it to the table. When we complained, we were given more ice cream, but charged for it. The service was terrible--our waiter was stiff as can be and entirely unpersonable, if such a word exists. To top it all off, we noted that the managers stopped at every table around ours--the obligatory "how was everything tonight?"--EXCEPT ours. I speculate this may be because we looked young in comparison to the other diners around us. However young we look (and we are both in graduate school), we certainly deserved the same consideration a middle-aged, presumably big spender, diner would get. My concerns about my entree, dessert, and the service would have been taken to the manager, but one only made an appearance as we were literally walking out the door. A lengthy but polite e-mail to the restaurant management went unanswered. One upside, as mentioned previously, was that the cocktails here raise the bar. McCormick and Schmick's subscribes to old-school crafting of drinks using freshly squeezed juices, fresh herbs, and fine spirits. At a second trip to this establishment, I went ONLY for the drinks. I may go back again, but would only go for the happy hour bar menu. The two drink minimum is worth it, and I'd just as soon never eat in their main dining room or order an overpriced entree again. I hear they have a good burger.

Excellent food, reasonable pricing. Went here for a friend's birthday dinner, then hung out on the square. We called ahead and told them it was for a birthday, and they had a custom menu printed just for our little table of 4! Excellent experience!

Well, it was about a year ago I ate at McCormick & Schmick's, so I don't remember all the details, and so I will just say a few words about the place. From what I remember, it seemed like your stereotypical downtown establishment- nice decor, pretty fancy menu, etc. Seemed like mostly white upper class as the clientele. The only thing that really sticks out in my mind was the service was SLOW. I had actually heard that before we ate there and it ended up being true. Thankfully, when we ate there we were in no hurry, and had nowhere to go afterwards, or we would have been late. I'd say it took 20-25 minutes from sitdown to get our drink and appetizer orders placed, which was ok because it was busy. It took another 25-30 minutes for the appetizers to arrive, but by that time the waiter had not taken our meal orders yet. So, we ended up finishing our appetizers before we even ordered our meals- I don't think I've ever had that happen before, and it was weird to eat with the menus still on the table. In all, I'd say it took about 3 hours or so to get through the entire meal. Now, I'm easy to please so this didn't bother me because we were having a good time- but I wouldn't reccomend coming here before an event. The food I remember being pretty good. They had some nice appetizers as well.

BEWARE OF THE OYSTERS HERE. We ate lunch here this afternoon and had the oyster sampler. My husband is now extremely ill, with all of the symptoms of food poisoning. There is nothing else that we can think of that he has eaten in the last couple days that would have caused this. I called the restaurant to tell them and the manager said basically, it couldn't have been the oysters because it takes 12 - 24 hours for a food borne illness to take effect but you never you know. He was perfectly fine before the oysters and then was nauseous and couldn't even eat the rest of his meal. They also said that if there is a bad oyster - you would know because it would smell so bad - NOT TRUE. I did some research online and found that if an oyster is contaminated, there is no way of telling. I asked them not to serve any more of this batch and she refused but said she will tell the chef. I am just saying be careful because my husband is terribly m,iserable right now and we really think it is from a bad oyster. Oh, and they sat us at a table that was literally in between the kitchen door, the bathroom and a wait station which was very distracting and annoying.
