Like many of the other reviewers I make the rounds at various coffee shops on the east side and downtown, and this place is hands down the friendliest. Also has plenty of free parking, reliable wifi, and never over crowded. The food is good and typical of any cafe, while their drink menu is pretty extensive. The only downside is their sometimes limited hours, but as a family run business it makes sense. Also if you need absolute silence to work be sure to bring your headphones because there's always conversation and laughs, which personally I love but may be off putting to some.

Their baked goods are delicious but the iced coffee is the best in Cincinnati! It's not watered down like lots of places and is almost a denser consistency. Almost like Korean iced coffee. Absolutely awesome!

This is the perfect neighborhood hang-out. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I come in for chai or a ginger ale with a splash of raspberry. They have a wide range of cafe food options. My favorite is the egg and cheese croissants, which are only $3.50. My favorite part about the café is how friendly the staff is and the eclectic group of locals that frequent here.

A couple of weeks ago my neighborhood and surrounding areas in Cincinnati suffered a major power loss. This wasn't the first time I've lost power at home during work hours, forcing me to find a coffee shop to work from for a few hours, but this was the first time all of my neighborhood shops were also without power. A friend of mine suggested heading towards either the University of Cincinnati or Xavier University, and while on my way toward UC I drove past Café DeSales, who appeared to have power. Once inside I found a few others already setting up a workspace at the neighborhood coffee shop and deli. After ordering a cinnamon roll from the counter, I found a table and started my work day. Hours later power was still not restored to our house and it was well after my normal lunch time. Fortunately Café DeSales offers a variety of sandwiches and salads for lunch, in addition to breakfast items being served all day. I was pleased to find a chicken salad croissant sandwich on the menu, always a favorite of mine. It is served with lettuce and tomato along with a side of chips, potato salad, or pasta salad. I chose potato salad, which is a large serving in a plastic cup. Both items were tasty and better than I would expect from a place that is predominately a coffee shop. I ended up spending my entire work day at Café DeSales and would gladly do it again in the future.

As long as this place has been around I cannot believe I am just now going here. Meet a friend for coffee mid-morning on a Friday. Place was surprisingly crowded but I was able to find a table by the window. The place was clean, not a bunch of dirty tables which can be a rare find at places like Starbucks. The barista was very friendly and greeted me right away. They had a surprisingly large selection of food which all sounded delicious but I only opted for coffee. My friend, who i later discovered is a daily customer and neighbor, ordered a yummy-looking egg and bacon croissant. Great working space and maybe my new local coffee spot. Cafe de Sales gets it right!

This particular cafe is open throughout the week for breakfast and lunch and, in the three short weeks we've been residents in East Walnut Hills, we have made at least one trip to the cafe every weekend. The weather has typically been beautiful and it is a 10-minute walk for us to get there, so this--I'm sure--will remain a constant. We absolutely love it. Not only has the food been great every time we've been, but the people working and the people patronizing alike are all so friendly as well. Reasonably priced, too. Thus far, I can assure you that the potato salad is some of the best I've ever had. I have also tried bagels, breakfast sandwiches, a deli sandwich, and BK has had a cookie, bagels, a breakfast sandwich, lunch, and coffee. The breakfast menu, lunch menu, pastry options, coffee, and service are all outstanding. I am such a big fan and I look forward to patronizing regularly for a long time to come.

Cafe de Sales is a nice little cafe in Walnut Hills. They offer reasonably priced coffees, pastries, and sandwiches. There seems to be a fairly strong community that meets here. Espresso beverages are well prepared and service is efficient and friendly. Convenient parking is located behind the restaurant.

Stopped in here for some lunch and a coffee with my wife. I had the bacon avocado wrap with a side of pasta salad and she had the croissant with sausage and cheese. We both had an iced dirty chai to drink. The iced dirty chai was actually really good. I order dirty chais every now and then from other coffee shops. My fear when I order one is that it is going to be too sweet because I don't like sweet drinks. I normally drink black coffee with nothing added or else espresso or cappuccino without any sugar added. I like the spices that are in chai so when I order a dirty chai I like the flavor without it being really sweet. Here the drink was perfect with a wonderful spiced flavor and not sweet. I would return just for the drink in the future. If I was rating them just for the dirty chai I would give four stars. The food was nothing special. It wasn't bad, it just didn't stand out in any way. The wrap was okay and fresh tasting. The pasta salad was really oily and not very flavorful. The croissant was also just okay. We sat outside and I will say that I really liked the patio. It sits on a busy corner in Walnut Hills and is a nice place to enjoy good weather, talk, relax, and people watch. Overall, the cafe wasn't really memorable. It could possibly deserve more stars if just rated on the drink and the patio. I might return just to drink an iced dirty chai and sit outside.

I live within walking distance of this place and the few times I've gone in to cafe desales, my experience has been mediocre. Sure, the owners are super nice but the baristas are moody and not properly trained to effectively use an espresso machine to bring out the best flavors of the beans. I also believe that the baristas don't know the concept of steaming milk to achieve that beautiful, velvety, micro foam. It usually sounds like they're not aerating the milk enough, which creates that god awful howling sound. In conclusion, specialty coffee is not their forte but you can get a decent breakfast sandwich and a cool view of Woodburn Ave.

This place is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to stop for a coffee and a quick bite. Cafe DeSales might be one of the friendliest establishments in Cincinnati. It's rare that you walk into a place and are always 100% of the time greeted with a smile and a sincere "How are you?" The staff is incredible. They really create that neighborhood community feel. It's pretty common for them to know customers by name and they put time and care into each order. My go-to is the breakfast sandwich with veggie sausage on a plain bagel. It always comes with some fresh fruit (it's like an exciting surprise to see what you're going to get each time) and a large coffee. My boyfriend also enjoys their Chai Lattes. They have a pretty extensive coffee selection I just like my plain coffee in the morning most days. There's a nice sized dining area as well as plenty of outdoor seating for the warmer months. With a prime location right on the corner of Woodburn and Madison there are plenty of parking options. Go for the food and come back for the friendly service. All around a great little cafe.

Cute little coffee shop in East Walnut Hills. I waited here while the wife had an appointment. My only complaint was the fact the building next door was being worked on it kept setting off the fire alarm in the cafe. It happened about four times and then I decided it was time to leave.

Nice little cafe, but not my favorite. There wasn't anything in particular that I disliked, I've just experienced better. They did have decent prices and really good music playing! The outdoor seating seems really nice, but the indoor atmosphere isn't fantastic. I was happy with the tea I ordered and being able to hangout, but I doubt that I'd make this a regular coffee shop.

This might be the friendliest place in Cincinnati! I've spent quite a bit of time in the coffee shops in and around the urban core and this seems to be the friendliest of them all! Sandy and all of the employees go out of their way to know customers' names and are integral part of the neighborhood. Jaye is an amazing woman who is a fixture at this place and might actually be the glue that holds the place together as everyone knows her and stops by to chat. When I told a co-worker I was going here, she said, "that place should get an award for community development or something!" She's right. It's a gathering spot, a living room, and/or, just a quick stop for a cup of coffee. I don't think you can walk in here without recognizing how integral this place is to the community. Free parking is plentiful in the parking deck off of Chapel (off of Woodburn) which makes this a great place for a meet-up. There's a great outdoor area when the weather is nice. Outlets are also plentiful and it's not big deal to set up camp and spend the day here working. In fact, after a recent Saturday camp-out to write, as I left, I was thanked for spending the day with them. Yup, that's right. The food is pretty standard. Breakfast served all day, a half-a-counter full of homemade baked goods and pastries, and a board of sandwiches and salads and a soup of the day (no soup on the weekends). They do offer side options of potato salad, chips, or pasta salad which is a nice change of pace. Personally, I would like to see the meats and breads sourced locally, but I'll take the atmosphere that this place offers over the need for a more conscientious menu. Also, the hours are a little wonky on the weekends-closing at 2 on the weekends and 6 (or 7) during the week.

The replaces Cafe Moca. It's different, I think for the better. I like the storefront and patio. I have not yet had a chance to try much other than coffee and snacks. The staff is very friendly and welcoming as well as accommodating. They tailored my drink to my needs and did a good job of it.

If you're looking for a friendly, neighborhood coffee shop, DeSales is for you. The location is great with plenty of outdoor tables for relaxing on a summer morning if you have the time. (I had a snickerdoodle flavored coffee, which was delicious!) What I really enjoyed about the Cafe though, is the community feel of it. It appears that a couple runs the place together, and I noticed they new some of the customer's names and orders. They were incredibly friendly, and genuinely concerned about our experience there. I'm thrilled Cafe DeSales is right around the block from me because I think it will become part of my weekend routine.

I absolutely love this place! I am a work from the coffee shop/restaurant kind of person. I do make the rounds in Cincinnati but Cafe DeSales is by far my favorite. They have the nicest staff, delicious food and drinks, reliable wifi, a clean and beautiful space with plenty of natural light and a very genuine neighborhood feel. To get all of those features in one place is rare, definitely recommend!!

Cafe DeSales opened in the space abruptly vacated by Cafe Moca in December 2011. In fact, it is owned by one of the women who worked at Cafe Moca before, so there is a great deal of similarity between the two. But the differences, those make it better. There is more space in Cafe DeSales, as some of the unnecessary things have gone away. There is the additional passion put into the food that comes with the determination to make this work. The sandwich choices that I have tried have all been very good - I always had a nice lunch here. There are very healthy and vegan options on the menu. One of my favorites has been the chicken salad, a risky option in some restaurants. Not this one - it has always been fresh and flavorful here. I have always liked their brewed coffee, but been a bit critical of their espresso-based drinks. However, the last time I was there, I had a perfectly prepared cappuccino. There is at least one barista there with a deft touch with the machine, and that makes all the difference. Stop in for lunch and a coffee. You'll be happy and supporting a neighborhood place that deserves your repeat business.

Cafe deSales took over the old MoCA location, and it's just as lovely as MoCA was. Parking in this part of Walnut Hills is easily available--plenty of free parking on side streets. The coffee is good and priced relatively reasonably. But the sandwiches are fantastic. Truly delicious. Bacon & avocado? Yes, please. Grilled chicken and pesto? Absolutely. And the sides--pasta salad, potato salad--amazing. I really like this place for a few hours of afternoon work. Great spot for grading or a relaxed lunch.

Great coffee at good prices in the heart of the neighborhood - what more can you ask for? (Friendly service, too.) I'm glad to see Cafe DeSales thriving. Evening and extended weekend hours would be great; hope they get there eventually.
