When you drive up to Alessandro's you first wonder why your GPS led you to this old Dairy Queen, then you wonder why there are so many people outside to get Blizzards or Dilly Bars. Don't be deterred, you have reached Alessandro's. The food is very good. Top quality ingredients prepared simply with perfect portion sizes. Not sure how exactly a native of Sicily ended up running a restaurant in Ashtabula, but I'm glad he did.

My family have been going here for years. I never had a bad meal. True Italian cooking and very friendly service. If you are used to Pizza Hut and you like Pizza Hut standards, I would suggest you just continue to pass this by and go to Pizza Hut! If you're mama was Italian and you are in the Geneva area this is the place for you! Enjoy!

Just as an update: I was recently at Alessandro's, and the new addition is open and includes an indoor bathroom. They also used the extra space to spread out the tables that are already in there, so that the diners won't have to venture outside to use the bathroom, and won't have to be squished together on busy nights.

Maybe they were just having an off night. We come to Geneva-on-the-Lake for a week every other summer or so and have tried a lot of the local places. We remembered that we liked Alessandro's in the past, so we decided to go there tonight. The service was so slow. So slow. The waitress was nice and everything and she took our drink orders quickly, but then didn't come back for a long time. Finally she took our orders. The owners' sons (who were about 9 and 11) came around and refilled our waters and brought utensils, and they were polite and adorable. However, our food took so long to appear. So long. So, so long. The food was ok. Not wonderful but it was ok. The sauce tasted good, but my aunt and I ordered meat sauce and there was very little meat. There was enough to let us know that it was meat sauce (I actually counted four small crumbles of meat) but not enough to actually call it meat sauce. We didn't stay for dessert. The portions were not very big. I am really not picky about food and I am very forgiving about service. But... The food did taste good, the whole staff was nice (including the owner's wife, who came over to chat with my one-year-old nephew), and the bread was good. Overall, though, I don't think I'll be back next time we're in town.

Simply amazing food !!! When the restaurant is packed, it does takes a while to get served but it's still worth it. Service is good. Waitress remembers what you ordered in previous visits, sometimes successfully. Visited about half a dozen times and every dish has been amazing.

The only good thing about this place is the food. THE BATHROOM IS OUTSIDE?? Wow. When I arrived, I assumed I was at the wrong place. The building is the size of a small gas station and rather run-down. Inside, the dining room seats 10 yet they force about 20 in. The service was poor. Three waitresses struggled with the small room since there is no room to move around. At one point, our waitress was too busy talking outside to refill our drinks. When she returned with our salads, I quickly realized she forgot the forks. Before I could speak she had disappeared again and I had to go up and get silverware myself as none of the waitresses were present for nearly 10 minutes. The food was good; authentic and well prepared. I just couldn't stand the service or dining area.

Dining area is small (I've heard from locals they have added tables) and we arrived around 7:30. If your group is more than 4 expect to wait. We knew this going in (we were 6) and decided after looking at a 45min wait we ordered "take out". Vitelli alla Contadina was flavorful but the roast vegetables were rushed (under cooked) and the veal, although cooked correctly was tough. The Petto di Pollo Martini was also flavorful but the butchering left some ligaments. In terms of these two dishes, I think Chef is spot on with flavors but needs to work with the prep staff and discuss meat quality with the supplier. All other dishes were very good; Calzone, Lasagna and two orders of Spaghetti al Pomodoro. The restaurant update included an indoor restroom so ignore the earlier post about having to walk outside. As a side note, all the wines offered were Italian but no varietals ( like a Valpolicello ) except Chianti.

Perhaps I need to give the restaurant another chance, but my one-time experience here just didn't meet up to everyone else's rave reviews of this place. The food was good, yes, but I'm big on an enjoyable restaurant atmosphere when I eat, and this place didn't have it. The inside was small and boring, and it was SO loud and crowded, I felt like I was bumping elbows with the family behind us. No thanks!

My ideal evening out is good food, good wine, and good friends. Ate here last night and all three were excellent. If you need atmosphere, go elsewhere. I've lived in Italy and this chef/owner creates food authentic to Sicily, his home. I will go here again.

Nice local restaurant with the owner doing the cooking!! I love a place where the kitchen is open so you can watch your meal being prepared. Had pasta and the grouper both very good. Our server was very knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. The lemon cello was a great refreshing dessert

This is one of the best Italian restaurants in Northeast Ohio. Very authentic and Alessandro will go out of his way to make whatever you are in the mood for that night. They have added the new addition and it really opens the place up. The service is great, maybe a little slower than most people are used to but he is in the kitchen every night making everything from scratch. Trust me it is worth the 10 or 15 minutes extra that you will have to wait to enjoy an authentic home cooked meal. I highly recommend Alessandro's.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
