What an amazing gem, ten times better than Chipotle. The food is so fresh, flavorful and there are tons of healthy options to choose from. If you don't feel like being healthy, they easily satisfy those cravings as well; but with healthy and well made ingredients. I'm a huge fan of their burrito bowls as well as their homemade chips and guacamole. The chips are served warm and have a hint of lime as well. The staff is typically attentive and the portions are very generous. I often see people sharing one bowl, which is totally doable. Highly reccomend!

Better than Chipotle with fresher ingredients and well seasoned food. My only complaint is that I have a shellfish allergy and I am always concerned by the way they handle shrimp. It is placed on the same grill as other food and is sometimes even carried across meals as my plate is being prepared. Highly recommend it for lunch or an inexpensive dinner. Great Margarita choices too. Super friendly staff

#NomNom This place is awesome! It's clean, the staff is responsive and fast, and the food is unbelievable! My son sometimes stop in for lunch and love it so much that we leave with dinner. How often do you do THAT with a restaurant??

I LOVE cabo fresh. It's chipotle/moe's-styled in that you go down the "assembly line" type counter and pick exactly what you want. The ingredients are always really good and really fresh. The workers are extremely organized, friendly, and always working with urgency. I normally get a burrito bowl but I have had the nachos and the tacos and they're all excellent. The nachos are filling and not too overwhelming - they give the perfect amount of toppings!! The tacos are great in that they're big enough to fill the average person and if you have leftovers, they still taste really good when you finish them later. I also always get a strawberry mango smoothie when I'm there - its better than jamba juice in my opinion (and I love jamba juice). Anyone that left a bad review about this place probably just went on a bad day with some unforeseen circumstances.

Cabo fresh is great for Mexican fast food. It's like a Mexican subway, you choose whether you want a burrito, bowl, salad, quesadilla... And then you go down a line of all different meats, cheeses, beans, veggies to put with your choice of food (someone does it for you behind the counter) .. I love it because you pick exactly what you want and how you want it.. I'd recommend their chicken nachos, they have great guacamole and pico. They have a choice of brown rice and whole wheat tortillas so you can make healthy decisions as well.. I don't feel as guilty getting a whole wheat with brown rice burrito :) they have cabo wabo tequila and great margaritas ! When I'm in the area I love going to this place for some quick mexican food! I'd recommend it to anyone

Don't be fooled!! It is not like chipotle. They do have other varieties of protein and salsas. They seem to rush you when there's not even a lot of people. They're chicken to me tasted like pork, too much seasoning.

I like the food here and they are very generous with the proportions. There are two aspects of the restaurant that I don't like. It's very noisy when trying to order and we usually have to shout. The other bone of contention is the seating. All hard surfaces which makes for an uncomfortable experience.

    (4)
  • Wai L.

Can't go wrong with cabo fresh! Family owned Chipotle style with a wide selection. I usually get the pork on a bed of salad. I saw they had a fish special that I can't wait to try. Nice layout and comfortable seating. Our new quick bite before watching a movie! A customer loyalty card would be a huge perk! (Good idea Janet!)

Cabo Fresh has not failed me yet. I've had tacos, bowls, quesadillas, and burritos and I love this place. I generally stick with chicken or steak which are my favorites. It's always fresh and while the line may look long, it goes very quickly. It's an inexpensive yet high quality lunch or dinner for anyone. I highly recommend the bbq chicken quesadilla.

As I say, it takes a lot for me to post a review. And luckily this is one of the establishments that lands itself on the fantastic side of the spectrum. I was out in the area visiting my mother and I wanted Mexican but wanted to keep it healthy so I used yelp and it brought me here. And I must say I am very glad it did. The second we stepped inside we were greeted with a warm, friendly and smiling staff. I was actually taken aback by how nice everyone was and how helpful and knowledgeable the staff members are. The food was beyond fresh, tasted like it was just picked off the vines, crunchy, flavorful and the colors were so vibrant. You ordinarily don't see that in places like Moes or Chipotle. I will be one hundred percent making the drive out to this cabo fresh in the very near future. I don't understand why there are any negative reviews on this place, those people were definitely having a bad day and felt it necessary to take it out on them via yelp. EXCELLENT FOOD, EXCELLENT STAFF, EXCELLENT EVERYTHING!!!!!!

I really want to like this place but sadly it doesn't do it for me. I've tried a bunch of different things on numerous occasions but everything is just eh. Maybe I'm spoiled from all the great Mexican spots in the City when I lived there but this place just seems basic. So when I crave Mexican I either drive a little further to Salsa Salsa or make something at home. Oh well....

My friend Alicia and I came here twice after a long class and we have ordered the same thing in a row, which was...*dun dun dun*...the delightful Shrimp and Mango wrap!! Yes, this is how we reward ourselves! ;D It is light, refreshing, and bursting with bright flavor. You get the toothsome notes from the tender rice and tomatoes, the sweetness from the mango, the tartness from the pineapple mango dressing, and the bite from the raw spinach. It is all dressed up in some herbaceous cilantro and lime. These are all the necessary cogs in the wheel that enhance the main protein- large chunks of perfectly grilled shrimp. Such gems are what the staff at Cabo are definitely not stingy about. They cram them into this ginormous two-hand-totting wrap and every time I bite into this monstrosity, I gleefully treasure hunt for pieces of shrimp. bit.ly/12HM8z0 We share this wrap, content with our portions, and always order a smoothie alongside. For our first venture, we got the Strawberry Crush, a creamy and fruity shake made of strawberries, bananas, apple-strawberry juice, and non-fat vanilla yogurt. bit.ly/17Vdks2 We always leave Cabo with a comfortable fullness in our tummies, slurping our body-friendly smoothie and never mindful about the low cost or healthy food fare. I can safely say that I love Cabo Fresh! It can definitely vie against Chipotle but something about that wrap had already won me over.

Step aside Chipotle! Upon entering the restaurant, I expected the food quality to be similar to Chipotle. I could not be more wrong. The staff was very friendly and the line up of the food was extremely fresh. Every single ingredient that was presented to us seemed like it was prepared minutes ago. I ordered the steak bowl with almost everything on it minus the guac, which like every restaurant, charges you a kidney for it. For spicy food lovers, you must get a nice topping of jalapeños because it was amazing. My mouth is literally watering while typing this review. Enjoy.

*** Cabo Fresh="Chipotle+" *** The shocking lack of a Chipotle near Stony Brook makes this the best option for a cheap burrito in the area. It's kind of like a Chipotle+, as they have a few more options and kind of seem to be trying to give off a Cali vibe along with their "California Mexican Grill" slogan. They have a nice variety of hot sauces...the spicy chipotle one is actually pretty spicy, so be forewarned with liberal application...it is pretty good though. They also make a very filling nachos that is of course not standard menu at Chipotle. Guac is almost two dollars extra though...why can't any of these burrito places offer cheaper guac? Service is pretty quick even at peak hours and the place is always clean. Pro tip: do a quick search on google and you can find $2 off $15+ and $3 off $20+ coupons online. Unless you're getting food solo, it doesn't really make sense not to use one of these coupons (at least it seems they are always active)...it makes it a pretty good deal. FINAL VERDICT: Decent, consistent, quick Mexican...feels very chainlike but apparently isn't. I'm too much of a Chipotle fanboy though to give this place 5 stars.

I really wanna love Cabo but I just can't. I don't know why but I can't. I guess I just really love Chipotle when it comes to Mexican fast food places other than Taco Bell. We ordered two shrimp quesadillas. Not bad but not super exciting either. A little too much cheese for our arteries. Shrimp was nice since Chipotle doesn't offer that option. Also got a side of guacamole. Not bad but OK. I make better guac at home if you ask me. If you're out and want Mexican from some place fast goto Chipotle. The party in my mouth came from the house made Pico de Gallo. Something so beyond simple it was perfect. Fresh tomatoes and cilantro ugh so GOOD! That alone I'd like to take home and just eat with some chips and have a margarita or two on the rocks, hold the salt please. Another winner was the huge (ok maybe not ginormous but rather large) bottle of Cholula (see pic). In case you didn't know Cholula is my favorite hot sauce thus far. Also I'd like to mention I did have their burrito bowl back I'd say 4 months ago? Again I'm truly sorry that hands down AGAIN Chipotle FTW! Not Cabo. Chicken is not like Chipotle. Cabo does not get a good enough sear on their chicken like Chipotle. Overall I'm giving Cabo a 3. It's a reasonable place to eat before the movies or after shopping at Marshall's Homegoods or the mall if you're not in the mood for great Italian food at O Sole Mio. Maybe one day they'll achieve the great sear on their meat like Chipotle. Not sure if I'll be back for anything except for the Pico de Gallo and the huge bottle of Cholula.

I really did not like chipotle when I first had it. Same goes with this place. But the difference is that I now really like (can't say love) cabo fresh. When I first ate here, I got the seared ahi tuna. $10 so I was expecting a good amount of tasty seared tuna. Tuna was not fresh and it was tastless. The actual tuna inside was like the amount of 2 sashimi pieces. There was definitely a reason why it's called seared tuna.. Because even if it goes bad, you can cover up the looks and also taste by adding all their sauces. Didn't want to come here again but it's one of the better options when you want to shop at waldbaums next door. This time I got the mango shrimp. Omg delicious! The mango was sooo fresh. The shrimp too. I just love the combination. I just go with how it is prepared normally and I'm glad I didn't change any ingredients inside. Everything complemented so well with one another.

Amazing food. Quesadilla, burrito and nachos were great. You can order online and pick it up. Mango salsa was great!

I'm taking off a star because they're stingy with the guac! I like Guacamole, its something I take away from my kids because they don't eat it or like it when its on their plate. What makes this place great is you can pick what you want, I ordered a burrito with Spinach, Shrimp and Mango. Go Cabo! It's a big serving but its a little expensive is the only minus. Their food is very fresh, its a nice lunch place to come after seeing a movie.

Cabo Fresh Mexican Grill - I like the name. As you walk into this restaurant establishment, it does seem appealing. The workers there are very well organized, and you can see the teamwork that goes on. There is a lot of communication between each coworker. I ordered a steak burrito, in which I wasn't too impressed by. It just seems to be what I usually expect. I believe it is very similar to Chipotle. I am surprised by the other reviews that have been given, saying it is the best mexican food place on Long Island. Unfortunately, I do disagree. I have tasted better establishments before. However, one of my friends did order the quesadilla, and it did look delicious. The sour cream is served seperate from the burrito, just like every other Mexican Grill place, and hot sauce is also offered. Overall, not too bad. The price is right, and I'm sure other consumers will think differently from this review, but I would give this place a try.

Love this place. This is one of the few places I can go on lunch break that sticks to my low carb lifestyle. Burrito bowl no rice or beans with extra protein of any kind, with sour cream and guacamole! The staff is very nice they might look grumpy cause they are in the zone! Lunch time is busy and they rock it out. I'll always come here for lunch!

I have to say I am usually a fan of the Tex-Mex thing and restaurants like chipotle however the last time I visited Cabo fresh I was dismayed at just how horrible and bland food can really be for example when you order a quesadilla you expected to have a certain amount of spice zest and cheese as well as fresh cookedchicken as well as it to be tasty when you bite into a Cabo fresh quesadilla all all your tasting is cheese and bland chicken with no real flavor and if you are so bold as to order a burrito here they have the audacity to charge you almost 2 dollars to put guacamole on your burrito which is simply ridiculous the moral of the story is do not try Cabo fresh stick to better Tex-Mex restaurants such as Moes and chipotle

  • Jay D.

I am definitely a fan of chipotle so it was a no brainer that I would give this place a try. I've been here many times and overall it's been consistent. My only problem is with the meat they serve. Honestly, I've only had the chicken, but I feel it pales in comparison to Chipotle's chicken. If you are going to blatantly model yourself after a successful chain, I think you should make an effort to be just as good, if not better. Time and time again, I am disappointed at the taste of the chicken. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible. But on the other hand, it's not great either. The taste and quality is just not there. I also think their prices are a bit high. I think their success is mostly attributed to the fact that they are so close to the movie theater. That being said, I still go there. Satisfying, but nothing to write home about.

Essentially a clone of Chipotle. They have essentially the same items as Chipotle but as a bonus, they offer whole-wheat tortillas! Chipotle has yet to serve these... No idea why. Great service, you always get your burrito or bowl made quick. Food is fresh and well priced. No complaints here. I probably come here 3 times a week at least.

For me, this is a takeout-only place. The food's good enough, and though it's a popular venue, the atmosphere that makes me want to relax and dine on the spot is missing here. But that's fine, because they do well with takeout. Recently we had the nachos with pork. The pork was far too sweet for my particular tastes, and next time it will be either the chicken or the beef, both of which suit me better. The rest of the enormous nacho platter is everything you look for in nachos, good enough that I had to force myself to stop eating it. Prices are good, service is prompt and friendly, and they offer a lot more than nachos. Add a star if you enjoy sweet pork.

We tried them today for the first time. Even at mid-afternoon they were quite busy and fairly noisy, so we decided to get take-out. The staff was friendly and helpful and the waiting time to get our order was a little over 5 minutes. The only minor quibble I had was that we asked for a side of guacamole but didn't receive it. Since we weren't charged for it, no harm was done (just a minor miscommunication). When we got home (taking under 10 minutes), the food was great. The beef tacos were very flavorful. The only problem was they had gotten soggy in the bottom (from the salsa) and started falling apart. The chicken quesadilla was excellent. It could have benefitted from a side of salsa (some places will give you some in a take-out order, by default), but was still quite good and tasty as-is. We're definitely adding Cabo Fresh to our take-out rotation. Next time we want to try their nachos.

If you're in the area and you're craving Mexican food, this is a solid place. It's almost up to par with Chipotle. I had a burrito, ingredients were fresh, but not as tasty as Chipotle, in my opinion. The workers are nice people and offer kind service. They differentiate from Chipotle by having nachos on the menu and also whole wheat tortillas. Nachos seemed like a popular item, but I'm not a fan of nachos in general. If you like nachos, seems like a perfect place for you.

Chipotle... you've MET your match! I feel like I'm in on this BIG secret every time I go to Cabo Fresh and realize there are only a few locations in New York. Now, what I absolutely LOVE about Cabo is the following: - Chips are fresh. I have yet to have oily/salty chips. - They are very generous with their toppings. - QUESO! How I missed thee! - Fresh ingredients are always available. - Kids menu. (If you're in the mood for a lighter meal these are a great option!) - Variety of hot sauces. - They have tuna & shrimp options. You can have shrimp tacos or a tuna baja bowl if you either love seafood or don't eat meat. Guess who doesn't do that? I'll give you a minute to think about it. - Service is always great. The staff here is EXTREMELY friendly. - Price wise it's not bad at all! - If you're an SBU student and use Wolfie's Wallet you actually get a discount! - Did I mention their margarita options? Yum! Now, don't get me wrong, I used to be a HUGE fan of Chipotle, but NOW I'm a believer. Overall, Cabo is my go to place now!

My boyfriend and I came here tonight and were pretty happy with our visit for a late night dinner. We both ordered nachos and piled them high! Between sharing our two different dishes this is what I've come up with: Chips: Holy crap are these baby's salty!! Rice: Very moist and tasty Beef: Wasn't ground! It had a pulled pork texture which we both enjoyed because it gave it more of a chew Cheese: Too spicy for me and the spicy with the salty chips just didn't really do it Pico: NOM NOM NOM Jalapeños: As fresh as could be which = very hot! Sour cream: Nice and firm. I hate runny sour cream. Bleh! I love how you can customize your order to whatever you want. The employees were very nice also! I also would like to make a note that they have re fillable drinks! WOOT WOOT! The place has lots of seating and seemed very clean. I will be going again!

Good food. I don't care if it's like Chipotle because there isn't one nearby. I was so happy to have fresh ingredients and awesome guacamole. Good prices and also great option for take out.

It's called Cabo Fresh for a reason. Everything is fresh. I get the tacos. Steak and chicken. The chicken is best. The veggies are fresh and so is there salsa. Their pico is awesome. You want fresh Mexican food. This is the place. Oh yeah the Baja bowls are really good too

Cabo is my GO-TO, vegan-friendly, dinner location if I'm in the Stony Brook area. I know I can get a cheap and filling dinner at a place where I can coerce any of my friends to go! Portions are huge, everything is fresh, and they have the option of whole wheat burrito. (Which Chipotle does not have) I love their mango and corn salsas and their guac is great too. BE AWARE: Pinto beans are cooked with bacon. Therefore, making then not vegan. But, if you opt for black beans instead, you will still have a fulfilling vegan meal. Not only is their food great but they have a great staff! One of their managers always recognizes my friend and I because we go to Cabo so much. Attentive staff makes for a great experience. Like all "assembly-line" style restaurants, don't be afraid to ask for more (or less) of an ingredient. This is key to ensuring the perfect experience at Cabo or any other similar food establishment. In short, GO TO CABO! Support local business!

Went for lunch recently and had a steak burrito. Very large portion, and ingredients were fresh. Place was clean and employees were friendly. Priced decent and they've got bottled beer and different types of hot sauces. Go enjoy.

Deffinatly the best mexican within 10 minutes of stonybrook campus. It's a little on the pricey side, even a little more so then green cactus but by far higher quality so I don't mind paying. Be nice to the girl with the monroe just because she so damn cute!

This place is awesome. The food is always fresh and the staff is great. We have dined here as a family since they opened and have never been disappointed. My kids love the place and the prices can't be beat for fresh Mexican food. They also serve beer and margaritas as well. Enjoy.

  • Michael N.

Great food. My complaints come based solely on inconsistency. The first time was a mega meal...the second time I needed to ask for more guacamole which you pay 2 dollars extra for anyway. I've since been there three times more and I love the taste every time. I do get nervous that I'm paying for extras and feel like I might not get as much as I would like. Also the meat was minimal and very conservative. The only way to succeed is to be consistent with every visit. I have heard this from other friends as well and now I see it for myself. I hope this is because they are new and will straighten out. If I were to give constructive criticism, I would tell them to Err on the side of safety and over give rather than under give when serving meats and sides. The money that that lose by over giving will reap rich rewards from word of mouth.

I am a big fan of Mexican food so I was pretty excited to see a new place open up in Stony Brook. I had the fajita burrito, which is the same as a regular burrito but substituting beans for grilled peppers and onions. The burrito was large, and I had added pulled pork, rice, lettuce, cheese, pico, and sour cream. Unfortunately guacamole is two dollars extra and from the looks of other customers meals, they do not provide enough to make it worthwhile. The food was delicious and I'll definitely be back.

  • Lindsay F.

I find that it is extremely disorganized in there. The people who take my order don't really know what each item contains. They should probably begin learning the ingrediants and maybe be a bit more friendly. I got really sick after eating here.

seriously, $15 for 2 mediocre burritos that were more cold than warm? not again. i thought that on my first trip that they were having an "off" day so i tried again a few weeks later, i chose the three crunch chicken tacos instead of the chicken burrito. still, 2 stars at best. zero flavor until i dumped half a bottle of hot sauce on them. it is a nice looking restaurant with a good concept but come on guys, your food is lacking any mexican flair.

    (2)
  • Matthew N.

I have been here several times. The food is good. My major complaint is that the portion size is inconsistent, but the prices are always high. Sometimes the person making your meal gives such a small amount of cheese and meat and peppers. Other times they are generous. For the prices they charge, the food should be consistently generous in size. I don't like paying an extra $2.00 for a tablespoon or two of guac.

    (2)
  • Kimmy B.

Oh hey Chipotle, someone copied your exact concept and re-named it! Ok, the food is good, but really is it that difficult to but some rice and beans in a burrito? Ingredients taste fresh, but then again, they better be since they are there for everyone to see on display. The place is really nothing special. The workers are nice but the owner is a little weird, kinda always stares at us when we're eating. Also, they put WATER in their sour cream...WHAT?!! This just got me pissed. Sour cream is supposed to be THICK, not liquidy. Also, if they are cheaping out on ingredient by watering things down, maybe they should consider lowering the prices. Just saying. If you can't give me quality for the price, 50 other restaurants in the area will. Even taco bell has thick sour cream. I just don't get it. If it wasn't for the location the place would be dead. They are lucky.

A bite out of my spinach bowl makes me forget that Chipotle and Qdoba even exist! Although all have a similar concept, the difference is in their quality and quantity of choices. You can add as many toppings as you want. Cabo Fresh is always very generous with their servings. My standard Cabo experience is a spinach bowl with a little rice, seared ahi tuna, mango salsa, corn salsa, and pineapple mango dressing. Cabo is a great option especially when you are in a rush to eat. Even when it is not rush hour, they are fully staffed at every station. Service is always quick and simple. Try the burrito bowl or the quesadillas if you want some meat on your bones. Go for a spinach or lettuce bowl if you're a health-nut! Cabo Fresh is so delicious because it is so fresh and bursting with flavor. Do your tastebuds a favor and check this place out!!

  • Kaylah P.

Love the food here, always fresh everytime I come. However, the person who made my order was in a grumpy mood. I asked for "a little bit more pico de gallo please" and he said "I already put it on"... Obviously I saw him put it on the first time because I was right in front of him, I asked for extra and he slapped it on and rolled his eyes at me. I know how hard it is to work in the restaurant business because I bartend. But if it's not busy, and you don't own the place, even if you had a bad day, put a smile on your face or don't come into work because nobody cares how you're feeling, we just want our tacos/burritos.

    (2)

They give big portions here..especially w/the meat. I was impressed. Taste is slightly different than chipotle, but the same concept overall...it is pricier than chipotle though..

I was really excited to try this place after really liking Green Cactus. But there's something about it that seems a lot less authentic. It was probably that it looked cleaner and fresher and the people were more friendly than those at Green Cactus. It looked an awful lot like the set-up at Qdoba, and I really enjoy Qdoba. But I still liked it less than my experience at Green Cactus. I got a salad. They asked if I wanted rice in it. Then beans. I think it would've been exactly the same as getting a burrito bowl. We also got a cheese quesadilla, which surprisingly didn't do it for me. I love cheese and there was more cheese stuffed in that wheat tortilla than a girl could ask for. But it just tasted like something I could've made at home, with enough handfuls of cheese and patience for it to melt. Perhaps my choices were too off-kilter to get the full effect of the Mexicanness, the way it'd be a huge mistake to go to Joe's Shanghai for the first time and order only a spring roll. I'll have to come back one day and try more things!

This place has the healthiest fast food around. I would go as far as to say this place is better than any chipotle I've ever been too. There are more healthy options such as spinach and now the even have brown rice. The guac is awesome too!

We catered from Cabo Fresh in Stony Brook and we were not let down. We had make your own tacos and the selection of meats and toppings were amazing! Our friends were impressed by the food, especially the shrimp. All of the ingredients are fresh and locally grown. If you have never been to the restaurant the place is beautiful and spotless. The bathrooms are cleaned multiple times a day and it is obvious. The staff and management are very friendly and want to make sure you are completely happy. I will definitely cater from them again!

Was in the area and stopped in for a quick casual bite. Was pleasantly surprised! Similar to Chipotle with more options like grilled shrimp and tuna. I usually would have ordered chips and queso, but the cheese had a strange, shiny yellow color that just seemed entirely unnatural so I passed. Other than that, the quality of the ingredients seemed high.

I have to say I'm not a tremendous fan of Chipotle. San Francisco spoiled me (perhaps forever?) with forearm-sized burritos and getting one here in NY compares with eating bagels OUT of the metropolitan area to me. After reading some good reviews for here, I decided to stop by on my way to work and give it a try. This place was PACKED at 2PM on a Monday, but the line moved fast (although I always get some weird anxiety with the kind of place where you follow your food order down the line as they prep it. I guess this actually cuts down on mistakes and allows customizations on the fly, but I always feel like I'm going to slow down the line or something). I got the vegetarian (sans guacamole) soft tacos with corn-salsa and habanero-salsa. I should have gotten them in hard tortilla shells instead, because they ended up SO watery by the time I was eating them, I put my platter up on the edge of my tray to let the liquid run down to the opposite end in an attempt to prevent the tortillas from ripping when I picked them up like a wet ceiling tile. I wish they would use slotted/strainer spoons for the salsa and other wet ingredients. This is however, my ONLY gripe. The habanero salsa was indeed actually hot (for a house-salsa created for the public) and the extra bag of chips I got came in handy when inevitably most of the taco filling spilled out of the last one due to the wet tortilla. I didn't see any bottles of hot sauce available for customers to further spice up their order, but they may be around somewhere. Likewise with utensils. I dig the environmental aspects of their plating and garbage (something NY could really learn from CA) but the bins weren't really clearly marked. Look, we're a place where we're used to just dumping everything in one bin - you've got to make it obvious for us where to put stuff if you want it to be treated appropriately. I'm hoping that they don't just take the separate bags out back and throw them in a single dumpster! The smoothies were a nice touch (this place also serves cervezas and margaritas, but going to work stinking like booze is usually not a good idea for me) and my blueberry-pomegranate was delicious. I'd come back for a quick bite, and to try the rest of their menu sometime. (OWNER/MANAGER NOTE: Please clean your overhead ceiling fans before springtime. Them thangs were COVERED in not-delicious dust accumulation!)

After ordering 15 tacos to go and spend around $50 there, I was very shocked to find hairs in two of my tacos, one taco had a strand of hair and the other had a ball of hair. When I called to let them know, I received an attitude from the manager. Everyone makes mistakes and we enjoyed the food up until then but we definitely will not be going back there after the horrible customer service.

Very good take out mex at reasonable prices. The pulled pork is out of this world. Chicken is good too. Smoothies suck

Nice staff. Fresh veggies. Price is right. Everything on the menu gluten free except the burrito wraps.

Are you kidding me? Guac for $2, .$85 for salsa? sour cream or cheese, not both. No black olives? Beans are hard. Where's the meat? By the way there was no cheese! GO TO MOE'S MUCH BETTER!

I have to say that I entered this place with low expectations given the woeful Moe's southwest grill, the terrible and highly overrated Salsa Salsa in PJ and crappy Baha Grill. Seems like these franchises and Salsa Salsa cannot get 2 things right: 1. Put some spice in your burritios! 2. Make the meat somewhat fresh! This place has #1 and kinda #2. The Habenero Salsa actually has sufficient spiciness! The ingredients were good. And the meat actually tasted pretty good despite being in a NSF stainless steel tub pre chopped. They do however taste very strongly of artificial smoke flavor. Overall the burrito was quite good and this place would be 4 stars if it were not for the fact that you can drive 2 minutes more and be at Green Cactus. And for those that are wondering if it is as good as Chipolte (which is the high water mark, just like visiting El Paso, TX, and invented the concept of franchise Tex-Mex [joke]) Well it is better than Chipolte, and there are no Chipolte's nearby.

I have to be honest, six months ago I would haven given this place three or four stars. The food is good, I go for the burrito bowl. Good mango salsa. However, recently the portions have really downsized. We aren't big eaters, but we have left here the pastn two times feeling hungry. Skip kids meal, total ripoff.

Very tasty and fast. Got the salad with chicken, and it was nice that you can also get their rice in the salad bowl. At chipotle, there is a difference btw getting a salad or a rice bowl. Their chipotle sauce/salsa is super tasty. Highly recommend for a quick lunch. A bit on the salty side, so don't forget to stay hydrated!

Today was the very first time that I went inside Cabo Fresh ( I was looking up a place to eat on Yelp's mobile app after I did some shopping at Best Buy). Cabo was pretty clean throughout the dining area and bathroom (Yes, there's 2). Cabo's food is very fresh, tasty, and worth the price! I agree with Diana H. Cabo Fresh is "better then Moe's and Chipotles because they give you different options like spinach and whole wheat burrito." I was thinking of getting the Ahi Tuna fajita (or was it a burrito?). But I had the pulled pork and my friend had the chicken. Both were great and well spiced. The guacamole was so good! (totally worth the extra $2). Two sodas (about $2, free refills), and two burritos (meat choices start at $7; don't forget the extra $2 for the guac) would cost you around $22 (tax included). They seem to have a good choice of soda and beer. I didn't see if they had any of my beloved Blue Moon, but there was a Corona sign that greets you right over the register. It was lunch time, and I was driving, so I chose the Dr. Pepper instead. I will definitely come back for the Ahi Tuna. Oh yea, the cashier was nice looking too.

MMMMM. Chipotle is so far away but thank goodness we have Cabo Fresh! For all the reasons I love Chipotle, I love Cabo Fresh. Lime/cilantro rice, delicious meats, and sour cream and cheese and salsa? How could you go wrong?! It's affordable, it's fast, and it's delicious. Thank you Cabo Fresh for being that yummy, cheap and filling dinner when we just don't feel like dropping $20 at a sit down restaurant. I just wish they had a loyalty card so I could get a bonus for going there so often! Hint hint.

This place is a great example of how it should be done. Good fresh food fast and tasty. I've been there 5 or 6 times since it opened and haven't ever been disappointed. I think the prices are fair and portions are good. On the down side, it seems like a lot of people find the menu confusing and I find the decor a little cold. Beer and margaritas is a fantastic bonus. Burritos are HUGE...get the bowl for a less messy alternative.

Absolutely love cabo fresh. In my opinion it is even better than chipotle and moes. The food is fantastic and the service is quick and nice

I have never written a negative yelp review before. However, I was really upset with my recent visit. I was in with my husband and two children. It was our first time at cabo fresh. The employees behind the counter not only were short with us because we weren't going fast enough but were rude enough to turn to each other and laugh while we were trying to figure out what filling we were putting in our burritos. I had my hands full with my small child another child next to us and the condescending rude attitude truly bothered me. In my opinion patience is necessary for quality customer service. Not only did we feel rushed we felt truly disrespected and perhaps because of that our food just wasn't what we wanted. I have to tell you I am a huge fan of family businesses we truly appreciate hardworking business owners, however I can't express enough how disrespected we felt as a family. It would have been nice to see smiling helpful faces perhaps if we did see that we would have made it a regular spot for our family.

Cabo Fresh has good Mexican food, if that is what you are in the mood for. THe prices are a bit on the high end, but the quality is better than most other places in the area. Service was good, nothing special, and the store was clean. Can't really ask for much more than that.

If I had the choice to go here or Chipotle, Chipotle would win every time. I go here out of convenience and the food is "ok". The staff seem to be confused a lot of the time and they really need to nail down their system like Chipotle has done. Often times two different people ask me the same question. They go out of order and it just becomes mass confusion.

One of the better places to eat when your in for some Mexican food. The burrito bowl was great. You choose your extra ingredients and make it to your liking. So if it taste bad, its probably your fault for adding something that did not mix well. The smoothies was awesome and a must try. I like this place better than Chipotle. This is a great place to stop by before or after a movie.

We come here once a week! (About 30 times since I've moved to the area.) Service- Friendly, polite, prompt Food- Delicious, made to order, just ask for changes in your order Decor- Lots of tables even when they're crowded, clean, well maintained Ahi Tuna Burrito is fantastic. Made to your preference of cooked-ness, the wasabi dressing is spicy but not overwhelming. Shrimp or spinach quesadillas are also superb. Fruit smoothy is tasty, fruity, and made to order, so are the Margarita's. Google a coupon or look in the penny saver there's a $1 off $10 and $2 off $20 always floating around.

Cant even say enough good things about this place. Tons of options from chicken and pork to ahi tuna and shrimp. Burritos, tacos, quesadillas, etc. Also a variety of beers and cocktails. Had a coupon that brought me inside for the first time and really was impressed. Had the BBQ chicken quesadilla which was fantastic. Girlfriend had a chicken burrito and it was loaded! Tons of options to add including nacho cheese which is a plus and their chipotle ranch sauce is killer. Added guacamole for a price and it was super tasty but the only downside is you have to pay for a side of chips. $2 pumpkin beers was hard to turn down so i went at it. All in all it exceeded my expectations and will return again very soon.

I say it is one of the best places for Mexican fast food in the Stony Brook area. I recommend the Burrito bowl, with mango salsa and chicken.

One of the better Mexican places to eat. The ingredients are very fresh, and the food selection is varied. My only gripe with this place is that it can be expensive if you don't watch yourself. The other day I was ordering a gourmet burrito and by the time I was done with the toppings, the order came close to $15!

Cabo is a casual Mexican place that is similar to Chipotle with a few twists in decor and slight changes in menu. The food is slightly above average but the atmosphere is good and lack of good Mexican places in Long Island makes me give it 3 stars given the atmosphere and location. The chicken in Chipotle is better grilled. Here it always feels a litle dry. My friends who had other meats felt the same. The plus is the habanero salsa. The minus is that it is too mild for anyone who wants habanero salsa. They also have habanero sauce in a bottle but those never beat the freshly made ones. My recommendation to the owner: grill the meats better and make sure they are fresh; they can be charred or done well without being dry. And please add a really hot freshly made habanero salsa for the enthusiasts. With those changes I'll be in whenever I can.

The debate between this place and chipotle is something my family and friends seemed keen on always getting into when we visit one or the other. In terms of flavor and overall consistency I side with chipotle more then this place. However this place comes through in places chipotle can't. My brother has celiac disease and no not the gluten free fad, the real thing. Chipotle, somehow has wheat in places you don't expect, this has caused him a lot of issues in the past. Cabo fresh has prevented their cross contamination much better and he is only restricted from eating their burrito shells and wraps (obviously). This makes it a better choice for my family overall. Additionally, let's be real chipotle has 1 taste for the most part. Don't get me wrong it's a taste I can't get enough of at the moment for some reason but it's not easy to get variety. Cabo fresh gives variety you can go there and get a different tasting bowl or burrito every times with extra toppings and proteins like shrimp, ahi tuna, queso, mango salsa. They have an expanded menu too with different things to get including smoothies. So in a large group of people, you'll come out happier!

Fresh veggies in a burrito, margaritas. Ask for the whole wheat wrap!!! I wish they would have vegan sour cream. Good place to get a burrito before catching a movie.

Cabo Fresh is a little bit of a variation on the theme when it comes to "we build your food for you" Mexican restaurants. All the usual suspects are there, but there are a few differences that are worth noting. First, they offer whole wheat tortillas and you can get spinach instead of lettuce as a filling if you desire. Also, they have Ahi tuna and pulled pork as a meat filling option. I would say that the rice has a little bit less kick than the rice at Chipotle, but they have a larger (but still somewhat limited) selection of hot sauces compared to Chipotle to spice things up. A small complaint is that they don't give chips with an dish, you have to order them separately -- but that is true everywhere these days. The location is a strip mall between a grocery store and a movie theater so we usually hit this place before shopping or before a movie.

I've been here a lot, mostly a take-out lunch, and the food quality has been consistent but the quantity has gotten significantly smaller lately. I get either a bowl or burrito and w/ either veggies, chicken, or steak and almost all the free options. The food has always been fresh, since I've never seen them empty except when I went there on July 4th and they were closed. A couple months ago, my bowls and burritos used to weigh a ton and they sometimes have a hard time closing/rolling them because of the shredded lettuce at the end, but lately it's been half the size and I'm not full after it's done. Sometimes I ask them to put more of something, but they put so little extra that you have to keep asking them so I just don't bother anymore. When I don't have my mind set for lunch, this place is usually one of my top choices but lately it's moved to bottom. The quality and freshness is still there so if you're not a big eater, then give this a try. I prefer this over Chipotle just because there are more choices.

For fast food Mexican it was really good. I liked it better then Moe's and Chipotles because they give you different options like spinach and whole wheat burrito. They also have innovative specials like BBQ chicken quesadilla with bacon. YUM. I didn't try their smoothies but they looked really good, I will make sure to order one next time and get back to you. Prices are fair, along the lines of the other big chain Mexican restaurants. And lastly the place also looked really clean which is a huge plus and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

The Cabo Fresh experience will prove to you that great food can be done fast and fresh. The ahi tun burrito is my favorite. If all you know of "Mexican" food is Taco Bell, Cabo Fresh is going to blow your mind. This California Mexican Surf Grill will show you how it should be done. If you're looking for fast, fresh California Mexican food -- Cabo Fresh is your place!

Solid replica of Chipotle - same style service which is great because they will never get your order wrong - they prepare your food right in front of your eyes! No waiter service, just order up at the counter, sit down and indulge - (and get ready to gain some weight) Decent sauce selection, comparable prices to Chipotle. I prefer Cabo Fresh over Chipotle and Green Cactus (I was a lifetime Green Cactus guy, since I grew up in Setauket/Stony Brook, where the original GC is located). The customizable, fast Mexican food is next gen greatness!

  • Nick C.

Not a bad Chipotle replacement. Mexican fast food your choices are limited to Taco Bell (bleghh!), Green Cactus (much fresher, but still), and Chipotle (gets the job done). If you are ever in Stony Brook and in the mood, give this place a shot. It was set up exactly like Chipotle, assembly line burrito/taco/salads/etc. And they did everything exactly the same. Except the food was a tad fresher and more flavorful. I see what they are trying to do here & I don't mind it too much, but if they really want to stand out, they should stop playing copy cat. Wrap up; It is still fast food, but just a step up over the Chipotle's of the world.

Filling? Yess As Good As Chipotle NO WAY!!! Cabo fresh is basically a rip off and chipotle everything from price to the items on the menu..it does have a little more variety like chipotle sauce or mango salad or shrimp but in taste wise its not there yet...deff not...over all its a good fix for chipotle as best as it gets around stony ...

Cabo fresh is great when you are craving Mexican food... The meat is much better than other similar restaurants and the employees are very nice. Try the habanero sauce on the side of a burrito or quesadilla.

Basically like chipotle but with more options which is cool. Food was fresh, free refills, clean and the service is good too. Big portions too, i was able to get two meals out of it. Tasted even better the next day! all in all, great food.

Needed to kick my son's Taco Bell habit so we took him here for dinner. Ordered 3 Tacos, 2 Burritos, and the Chicken Nacho kids meals. My daughter enjoyed the nachos and we loved the mango salsa. Everything else was ok but the good thing is my son wants to come here instead of Taco Bell. Bad thing is we're going to have to pony up a little more cash for dinner.

Came here before going to the movies next door. Very clean, fresh, new spot similar setup to Chipolte. As Diana mentioned, they have whole wheat and spinach tortillas which is great and also serve cerveza. Prices are fair although I agree with other comments $2 for a side of guac is overpriced. Went with a shrimp quesadilla, way too much queso and not enough shrimp. Maybe I'll give it another shot and try something else but in the meantime I will continue to make the trek to Nassau for Moe's as for fast food Mex they are my fav.

If I could leave 6 stars I would. Cabo is set up like Chipotle but that's where the comparisons stop. There are more meat choices and you can even mix them if you'd like.. You get more than enough food for the price. Everything is always fresh and they even offer margheritas and beer. The place is extremely clean and the staff is by far the most courteous staff I've ever encountered. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED

  • Marika T.

I've only tried the shrimp burrito bowl (yes, shrimp!)... so far so good. Too bad they don't give a lot of shrimp but good enough for the price. I wouldn't say it is a replica of Chipotle... more like the California version. As a SBU alumna, I wish Cabo Fresh was open when I was still a student. In fact, they should open one up in the city. I'm a sucker for pico de gallo, roasted corn salsa, and guacamole both served at Chipotle and Cabo Fresh. One thing for sure, I LOVE Cabo's mild mango salsa. I'm dying to try the ahi tuna, quesadillas and smoothies next time. I'm pretty sure I saw bbq chicken as one of their specials - not very authentic but interesting. Price is right, food is fresh, easy come and go atmosphere. What more can you ask for?

Burritos are the hot-ticket item here. The pork is delicious, and you have to try the mango-pineapple dressing on your burrito (I only tried it cause someone recommended it to me). The sour cream is great, and the guac is pretty tasty too. Nice decor, fast workers, great atmosphere.

  • Marie S.

I love Cabo-Fresh. I used to be a Chipotle fan but I think Cabo blows them away. The meats are better tasting and you get a huge portion for your money. The first time I came in the manager let me sample all the meats so I could make a better decision on what I wanted. ( I love the baja bowl) I have been here 4 times and each time it gets better. The staff is very careful and even comes over to ask how I am enjoying the food, and even though it is very busy, it is always very clean.
