We found the Red Hut Cafe while at a basketball tourney in Tahoe. The teenager actually picked up my phone and opened the Yelp App to find someplace to eat (I will make a Yelper out of him yet). This cool little restaurant is off the beaten path which I loved, and looked to be a local favorite. It is always a good sign when people are lined out the door. It is a small restaurant, but tables open up quickly. We were seated within 10 minutes and our server quickly took our orders. Huge omlettes arrived moments later with fresh ingredients and home-fries.....delicious! The service was friendly and they knew their menu. They definitely have the breakfast thing down! We will definitely be back when in Tahoe.

Actually kind of bummed. I looked at the reviews and expected a lot more. Maybe we just ordered the wrong items but I was very disappointed. If you look in my reviews of breakfast places, I always order the corned beef hash to see how well they make it. I have found some fantastic spots all around that take the art of their corned beef hash very serious. I looked up on their "Specials" board and they had their corned beef hash listed. I thought, "Great, it must be good. Let's try it out." Straight out of a can and barely heated on the flat top. Very bummed. My wife ordered what the waitress said was one of their best burgers. She ordered medium rare. Burger was just a frozen patty type and was over cooked. Bun was way too big for the burger and was kind of falling apart. Not really good at all. I can heat canned corned beef for a buck at home and specialty burgers using boxed frozen patties? Very bummed for our time there. We won't be going back.

This is a fairly friendly place. Our son got hot chocolate and there is a mountain of whip cream as tall as the cup with sprinkles. He ordered the kids French toast Me n the wife got a special called the "usual" 2 eggs, hash browns biscuit with gravy and I added a side of sausage cuz you have to have sausage with gravy!!! Without sausage this breakfast is $5.99 a deal very hard to beat especially as it tastes good also. Value, cheap breakfast and good tasting - a winner for sure

I don't really understand all the star hype... but we went on behalf of all the reviews. I ordered the hashbrowns with melted cheese, sour cream, avocado & an egg on top & a hot chocolate. My boyfriend got (what is similar) to a denver omelet. The service was good, the atmosphere is breakfast diner & the food was pretty good. Nothing amazing but good enough. My hot chocolate came with whipped cream & sprinkles which was awesome but the actual hot chocolate was some instant shit - pretty gross actually. The boyfriends omelet was pretty good - not sure if I would totally make an effort to stop again but it was goo enough!

We decided to stop in for breakfast on our last day of vacation after searching for a good place on Yelp. We found this location fairly easy although I'm sure many people have passed the unsuspecting white restaurant. We got in right away and were seated. The ambiance felt warm and inviting; definitely a locals place during the weekday. We looked over the menu and decided on the Waffle Sandwich (waffle, eggs, and bacon or sausage) for me and Dons Special (2 pancakes, eggs, and bacon or sausage) with a coffee for BF. The food took a little while to come out but it was worth the wait. I dove right into my eggs and meat before going to the holy grail of the waffle. BF followed suit. The eggs were cooked exactly the way we liked them, the bacon was crispy, and the sausage juicy. The pancakes and waffle didn't disappoint either (yes, I sampled his meal)! Overall quaint little restaurant on the Nevada side with a good home style breakfast!

This place was everything the reviews said it was. Customer service: Great customer service from all the staff. Everyone smiled, welcomed me and made sure they checked on me often. Food: I had scrambled eggs w/cheese, sausage, hash browns, and a strawberry waffle. Scrambled eggs were very cheesy. Just how I like them. Everything was cooked to perfection and taste great. I highly recommend if you're in the area. I made a 10-15 min walk from the Hardrock Hotel to see what this place was about and it was worth every step of the way.

Super cute place. Really homey. Staff was excellent. Food even more so. I ordered a make your own omelet with their jalapeño bacon, onion and avocado and it was just delicious! Felt so satisfied afterward. And for less then $30 for me and my brother, can't beat it! Highly recommend!!

Extremely small restaurant and its exterior is white... I was expecting to find a red hut. The food is mediocre, overpriced & the portions are small, but I'm glad we tried it. We will continue to find "our spot" when vacationing in Tahoe.

Great place. Been wanting to go here for some time. Outstanding service that makes you feel like a local. Family ordered Dons special and two eggs and bacon. Food was very good. Great place for kids, lots to look at. Will come back.

  • Georgia R.

Delicious! It's a small cute spot off the road with plenty of parking if you get there before 9:30am. Went here for the first time for breakfast and ordered the Don's Special with bacon & scrambled eggs. The portion size is bigger than most too. The 2 pancakes alone took up an entire plate.

Did my research on Yelp and found this cozy little spot for Breakfast on our last day in Tahoe. It did not disappoint. We got seated right away. I ordered the Waffle sandwich, hubby ordered The Usual and our son ordered the ham and cheese omelet. All was delicious. We will stop by next time we are in Tahoe for more!!! The only reason I gave four instead of five stars was because our drinks were only refilled once but overall everything was good.

I love breakfast food and restaurants that get it right. Red Hut is great with fresh eggs, homemade corned beef hash, well done hash browns, and good coffee. That is all I have had at the moment but I am excited to go back and try some other things. The restaurant itself is pretty small so expect to wait if you go during the busy times or on weekends. It does get a little crowded..

Good, simple food. Feel of an old diner. The only mines was hash browns were really oily.

I live 7 minutes away from this Red Hut (there are 2 more in South Lake Tahoe, and 1 in Carson City). The breakfasts are Awesome! And reasonable. Try "The Usual" 2 eggs, Hash Browns, Biscuits & Gravy. There's sausage in that gravy! All for $5.99. A friend from Orange County was visiting and he was impressed. The people who take care of you there, make you feel right at home. Super friendly, down-to-earth, and helpful. I've seen the staff give visitors to Lake Tahoe all kinds of suggestions & advice on how to enjoy their stay. I work with some of the Edible Magazines & I'm from San Francisco originally, and still live there part time, so I know restaurants, Right?!! The Red Hut at Stateline is one of my top favorites (sorry Gary Danko)! lol!

Fun place for Breakfast but go early on the weekend. It's packed starting around 8am. Great food (very fresh) and the service is awesome!!!

We were looking for a breakfast place that wasn't a chain that we could find at home in the Bay Area and found Red Hut on yelp. This has multiple locations in South Shore but the Kingsbury grade location had the best reviews. We knew it was good walking in when we saw that they serve Farmers Brothers coffee. I got the eggs Benedict special, hubby got a pancake special and kids shared a Mickey Mouse pancake. With 2 coffees and apple juice, our total was $30. Customer service was attentive and friendly. Bathroom was surprisingly roomy and clean. It's easy to find, about a halfway mile away from the casinos.

We are here each time we come to Tahoe. Great breakfast food and they are always busy with both tourists and locals. Our waitress was meh but all the other help is sooooooo nice. Food was excellent.

    (5)
  • Robert C.

Although the food was very good, however the service left a lot to be desired. My waitress could have cared less about me being there. After 10 minutes she finally came over to take my order and another person whom I felt was a regular came in after I did was waited on right away and was served before I was. If you are going to be in business, customer service is the first most important thing followed by great food. I doubt that I will be back.

Red Hut was our second breakfast in Tahoe, and will probably be our last as well. Excellent service, Huevos Rancheros and all breakfast entrees pleased us and our guests ... So much food for the price! See you in the morning!!

Greasy spoon breakfast joint. The South Lake Tahoe original. Good food with ample portions. Friendly service and cheap prices. The decor looks like it hasn't changed (or been cleaned) for 50 years. Nothing really outstanding or original about the menu but the food is tasty. You know they're doing something right when a restaurant has spawned numerous additional locations. I recommend the omelets.

Well I thought with all the great reviews this would be better. The food wasn't horrid so I think it deserves at least a 3 star, but I almost gave it a 2 because I could have cooked up a much better version myself. I knew it would be small so I can't put that as a negative because I was fairly warned. But let me add -- it's small - very cramped and hardly any room for the servers to walk between tables. When we walked in an employee was cashing out another customer and we stood waiting -- he never acknowledged us - nor did anyone else for a long time. Finally they took our name and told us it wouldn't be long. I had already spied a table in the middle of the restaurant that was already set up and ready that we would fit in so I'm not sure why we had to wait. The lady ran around (even went outside for something) and eventually came back and directed is to seat ourselves at the exact table I had been staring at for about 5 minutes. Not sure what that was about, but they are a busy little place so I won't hold it against them too much. Someone came fairly quickly to order our drinks, but no one showed up to take our order for a good 15 minutes. There are signs in the restaurant proclaiming how awesome their pancakes are so I went with the Don'a special (2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 3 bacon or sausage). My husband ordered the fried egg sandwich with a sausage patty (I make him something similar almost everyday at home). We waited another very long time until our food arrived. Who knew breakfast foods took so long? My dish- less than spectacular. Absolutely nothing special about the pancakes and honestly I can cook them better at home and I'm no master chef. Bacon was very fatty so half of it went to the wayside because I just can't justify eating pure fat. I'm not normally a "bacon trimmer" so I mention it because it was a weirdly un proportional amount of fat. My husband's was "ok" but he did take off about half the sausage patty because it was too much and gave it to me to try since I like sausage. I wasn't impressed by it either -- I think I'd take the fatty bacon over their sausage because something was "off" with that patty. My husband did praise my ability to make a friend egg sandwich much better than a restaurant, but let's be honest -- that's kind of sad. Wait staff was clearly busy but no one came to check on us as they were walking by - I always had to ask for a refill, I was never offered one. The next time we saw our waitress was only for her to give us our bill. Their customer service could use some serious work. So definitely not going to be doing a return visit. We'll look for breakfast elsewhere when we visit Tahoe.

Ample parking here. If you missed the entrance, go around back and you're there! Friendly service and food is hearty. Do try the Red Hut Rosti.

Very friendly environment! Definitely a place where the locals go. Fluffy, fluffy pancakes! Excellent service! Everything was cooked to order and the meal was more than adequate in size. Really enjoyed the small town of the restaurant! Hope to visit again before leaving town.

Great spot for breakfast! It gets busy, so service might be a little slow. I had the hash brown rosti with a fried egg on top, delicious hash brown with cheese, bacon, and chives for $5.99 My sister had the banana waffle, it was a little small, but tasty. Lots of banana and whipped cream on top.

Nice lil locals spot! Excellent pancakes...my hubby couldn't stop raving about them. So light and fluffy. I had an omelet with spinach, mushroom and pepper jack, with a side of salsa. Delish! Hot apple cider had a thick cinnamon stick in it....nice touch! And service was great!

Great little spot for breakfast!! Definitely a local spot. Really tiny place but service is fast and food is great. We arrived when all the tables were full but the wait wasn't long. No complaints here. Go here first before you try Driftwood.

  • Ashleigh R.

Came here for breakfast (brunch, really). We were not disappointed. I ordered the Red Hut Rösti, which didn't sound like much of a meal, so the lovely waitress recommended adding an egg on top. What an egg-cellent suggestion! It was fantastic. My husband ordered a burger which was HUGE with quite the pile of fries accompanying it. All-in-all, we were quite pleased. If we have the opportunity to get out for another morning meal while we're in Tahoe, we'll be back!! (I only gave it four stars because the service was a little slow at times, even though they weren't packed. But that didn't keep us from enjoying our meal.)

Great breakfast spot, very quick and friendly service. Will come back. I had the scrambled eggs and jalapeño bacon.

This place is kind of hidden if your not looking for it but it has the friendliest service who's always having fun and very prompt with there service. The waffles are amazing and a must if you like waffles. We will definitely be going back there while we're here.

My wife loved her food but I dont like pancake mix passsed off as waffle mix and the staff, not very professional

Love this place. Large servings for cheap price. Food taste good too. Staff are friendly. Almost don't want to make a review for fear of too many people coming here which will make the short wait time become a long wait time. Lol.

I kept it simple and sweet this trip to Tahoe... just got the good ol' american breakfast of eggs over easy, sausage, and hashbrowns. Let me tell you... some of the best tasting breakfast sausage I've ever had! It was so good I got the same breakfast two days in a row!!! The ambiance is fun and has the old diner feel to it. They also have a fountain soda bar - or whatever you call it - connected to it too. Fun place to go with friends or your bf! :)

Quite a popular little breakfast place. We didn't have to wait too long because we sat at the bar. I had the pancake sandwich with sausage which was quite tasty. Fluffy pancakes, good sausage, a nice hot cup of tea. Nothing amazing, but it was good. A standard, yummy breakfast.

Please do yourself a solid and eat breakfast here. You will love it. And by the way they have two locations around the lake; so if you are closer to one or the other, go for it!

This place has gone down hill a bit - not sure what happened? Food is so so, about the same as Denny's, but more expensive. Not sure i could recommend this place anymore. Maybe the good cook went to the new Carson Red hut? --RibChamp

This is my new favorite breakfast spot when I am in the Sierra's. Great coffee Great food Cost effective I'm far from a Starbuck's honk. In fact, I am pushing for a Starbuck's free day this Summer, so check back with me. What I love is a nice, hot, fresh cup of coffee and this place nails it. I love a fancy schmancy brunch every now and again, but this weekend I just wanted down home good food and that is what we found. **Don's Special** 2 eggs, 2 pancakes and 2 sausage or 2 strips of bacon for like 8 bucks. I saw some tasty hash browns across the table from us so I ordered those too and made it a full blown fat boy meal. I definitely needed a cat nap after that, but it was worth it. We hit this spot twice while in town and absolutely loved it both times. My favorite aspect of the spot, it's locally owned and the service was awesome!!!! Check it out folks, you won't be disappointed.

This is a must visit every time I am in Tahoe. Nice small cozy place. Amazing food and an awesome atmosphere. Breakfast is always good. The Usual is my favorite. Burgers and sandwiches for lunch are also awesome. Super friendly staff. They are constantly busy but still find time to take care of everyone. Must get in early if you want to avoid the wait.. it can get long some days. Worth it if you do wait though!

We ate at this particular location of this small chain of diners because of this one's local flair and retro feel. This is a solid place to have a big breakfast if you're brave enough to fight the crowds. I recommend the bacon waffle and jalapeño bacon. The bacon waffle is crispy, fluffy, chewy, smoky, sweet and savory all at once. The jalapeño bacon is crisp, smoky, salty, sweet and spicy. There's a lot goin' on there! Omelettes are huge and fully customizable and the hash browns are delicious retro diner-style. Just throw some hot sauce on those spuds and I'm in heaven! On a negative note, the French toast is meh and the coffee is weak. Service was a bit slow for a place like this. Anyhow, I still recommend it for its retro feel and good food.

Myself along with my girlfriend and her little sister decided to try a more local place off the main Tahoe lists of breakfast spots. We initially read the reviews and most were positive. We initially received good service being seated and drinks. After that everything was downhill. The place cleared out and was only at half capacity, it took over 53 minutes for the three of us to get an omelette, 2 orders of French toast and a bacon waffle. The server apologized for the delay and said they had a new cook in the kitchen. It's unacceptable to wait that long. The bacon waffle was not cooked properly, there were full slices of bacon in the waffle...which made it hard to cut into bite size pieces. They need to crumble the bacon first and then cook it in the waffle maker. The cook must have just got done with high school, very amateurish attempt. The coffee was disgusting as well. It was worse than 6 month old Folgers in a can...sure enough I saw the server getting more coffee ready and it was some no name brand out of a plastic bag...gross! Also, the bathroom placement is poor being that when you walk out of the men's Restroom you are within 10 ft of the kitchen which you can see people's food. That doesn't seem very sanitary to me. Overall disappointed with the service, food, beverages...I would not recommend this place to anyone ever.

Horrible is the only word to describe this place. And what could you expect from a place that is run by 19 year olds? I knew that this is going to be a very cozy out of the way place, so in no way was I expecting an amazing experience and service, but that was just horrible. Service - I was trying to replace two pancakes for 1 waffle in my combo (they are about the same price) - "no" came out of the waitress before I could finish the sentence. Our check came out before the food. Bacon was so dry that my husband put it aside and didn't eat it (and he never leaves bacon!) Sausages looked like little black sticks - how can you burn it so bad and still serve it? Eggs were a separate story - we both ordered sunny side up and they were completely raw. There was a thin layer of set egg whites on the bottom, the rest was transparent and jiggly. We sent them back and they came back horribly overdone. Pancakes... I guess they were OK, how hard is it to screw up pancakes anyway? Never again!

We went 2 different times to this Red Hut because we were staying very close and was able to walk here. This place is amazing so wish we lived closer. The jalapeno bacon... was so so yummy it is a must try!! I also had the biscuits & Gravy it was very good! My husband had the bacon waffle and said it was the best waffle he has ever had! Can`t wait until are next visit to Lake Tahoe we will definitely be back!!

Breakfast before departing! My father got the Biscuits and gravy and the gravy was delicious! I ended up getting the French Toast special, and was pleasantly surprised they had a selection of different breads for it. I ended up decided on just a wheat bread, but my boyfriend got the strudel and it also tasted great!

Tiny, cozy place with a counter and tables along the window. The coffee here was great, and the servers were really good about keeping my cup full to the brim. Most of us ordered the Omelette (I think the western?) with hashbrowns and toast. The omelettes were huge, not overly cheesy and eggs were fluffy. I love American breakfast food. Oh, and next time I will for sure try the waffles!

Crowded place, but pretty good food, at massive portions.

Breakfast is amazing! Jalapeño bacon oh so yummy! Staff was really friendly. My only problem is the use of cell phones by the staff and messy hair and no washing of hands before touching people's plates. So food is great! Only reason for 3 stars is the cleanliness of the staff.

rise and shine...tuning in to the weather report...zero inches of new snow...wind advisory in effect with gust up to fifty-five mph...snow making in progress at heavenly...looking outside the window to see sunshine, birds and no movement in trees..what the?...ride 'til the wind the plan...driving to red hut cafe strip mall...beautiful morning for breakfast...coffee...orange juice...browsing menu for breakfast specials...taking don's special for $eight.thirty-nine...two standard pancake rounds...two eggs cooked over-easy as requested...three simple pinky-sized sausage links...what makes it "don's"?...three sausages instead of two...nothing special, but a standard breakfast...omelette the better choice...an enormous four-egg ometette folded to a large rectangular burrito-like mass...filling heavily spread and served with perfect golden hash browns...crisp outer and soft inner...side of toasted bread, muffin or other...coffee refills fast 'n' furious throughout meal...perfect $fifty breakfast for three eager snowboarders...fueled and ready to ride...

Good place to have breakfast. The large Red Hut in South Lake Tahoe has an ice cream parlor. They make their own waffle cones.

breakfast was ok. order came out wrong. Asked for a simple ham and bacon and cheese omelet. only got ham n cheese and 2 slices of bacon thrown at me.... Over all, this place was just ok. Kinda disappointed from seeing the other reviews. Not sure if i'll go back

Excellent diner! After reading Archie R., and Omid T.'s reviews, I had to visit The Red Hut Cafe during my Tahoe visit last year. I was not disappointed! The Red Hut serves up warm, hearty, and tasty plates that are perfect after a day of skiing, snowboarding, shopping, or people watching.

I live 5 minutes away from the one on Kingsbury Grade, so take it from someone with a choice... This is not my first choice unless I had no food in the house and no guests I wished to impress. I've been to all three locations and basically... The hours are great, and the parking can be plentiful on the weekend, in addition it's easy to find (except for the now defunct original location). During the tourist season, you're going to be waiting for a seat, and this may be problematic as in the winter time, standing outside is cold. At the original spot, you had the option of getting a nice cup of coffee or mocha, but the two new spots... dress appropriately. The typical food (e.g. the Usual which I usually order) is nice. The prices are on par with what you'd pay for Dennys, Carrows or any national chain restaurant of that caliber. The food doesn't impress me. For breakfast or lunch you can expect to find a great many other dining experiences in South Lake Tahoe which will not only fill your tummy, but leave you with a memory, and a good one. This is not a fancy dining experience restaurant, nor does it strive to be one. If you're with a couple of buddies, with a family and want a bite to eat, you'll be fine. If you're going up to Tahoe to have some fun and want the food to match, you may be disappointed (regardless of all the 4+ star reviews this place seems to garner.) Anyhow, dining is ultimately a choice of yours and if you have a choice and want something nicer, do a little more research and find some place else. However if you just want some food for energy and really don't care about the overall experience, then I don't begrudge going to the Red Hut. Update: After a few years of going to this place, it's started to grow on me - in a good way. The staff is good (if they can keep the coffee filled and coming) and friendly, and the portions you get for food... not bad. I've been able to come by a lot when it's not packed and that makes things a lot better. You get a bit more attention, it's quieter and there's no line or wait. Plus they have eggs benedict, on Tuesdays.

In the immortal words of Pete Townsend, who are you? You need to know the answer to this question prior to going to this place. If you're into huge portions, cholesterol, butter, cheese, and industrial coffee, this is the place for you. If you're not, they can do some accommodation, but it is far from the fancy citified, yuppie places that some prefer. It only seats about thirty people and the place has retained a certain rustic appeal. Frankly, it's a great option and worth the effort. We live nearby and so we enjoy the place, and midweek is always a better choice, as the weekends will almost always have a wait. Yesterday, a Tuesday, we went, were seated right away, and we split a four egg "eggbeaters" cheese and Ortega chili omelet. The omelet was great, we split the hash browns, and we enjoyed the rye toast (there were many options of bread available). The restaurant did not bat an eye, as I'm sure we are not the only folks trying to make better decisions on a daily basis. Beyond huge portions and tasty food, you'll also get to enjoy some nice pictures of the way Lake Tahoe used to look. They have some large old photos that are interesting. When your near Kingsbury Grade, this is a great option and I'm a fan. If it's the weekend be sure to be patient, as the wait is worth it.

The wait was excruciating and we were starving, but...the food really hit the spot on a super-chilly morning. I think we ordered the blueberry french toast and a make your own omelette, both of which were really tasty. No fresh juices, but no biggie. Would recommend (to those willing to wait).

Saturday morning + New Years Eve = an extra crowded Red Hut Cafe. The story about how it was established makes it more interesting, as it's truly a mom and pop kind of place with lots of locals/regulars. They're open 6am-2pm, and they have mostly standard breakfast fare but occasionally will offer daily specials like breakfast burritos or chili. They have burgers, too, but I'd recommend going with the breakfast stuff they're so well known for. They have various kinds of waffles, which are made relatively thin (not Belgian style) and topped with fruit and whipped cream. Pancakes are fluffy and have good flavor, and they offer various combinations of breakfast items together, like biscuits and gravy with eggs and hash browns, etc. For omelettes, there's no extra charge for egg whites or egg beaters, and they use 4 eggs instead of the usual 2 or 3 at other places (and you can choose your cheese.. go for pepper jack!). Their hash browns are crisped well and even better with some extra salt and pepper. We got lucky and didn't have to wait too long for the table, but I think they had a rush of orders around the same time, so food took almost 30 min. While we were waiting, they were good about refilling the coffee regularly. It's a pretty small space in what looks like literally a hut. It's nice that they do take american express and other credit cards. It definitely appears to be the local breakfast institution.

We stopped by this place for breakfast as we were leaving Tahoe. There are three locations and all three were extremely packed. We ended up at the one on Kingsbury. The place is small, but has a homely feel to it. But the wait was ridiculous (we were told the wait would be 20 minutes but ended up waiting about 40 minutes.). The staff was nice and tried to be as accommodating as possible. We were given coffee as we waited for a table to open up. I wouldn't recommend large groups dine at this location (the one on ski drive seemed larger). As for food, it was a decent breakfast....the portions are huge. I had the waffle sandwich (basically waffle, side of eggs and 2 strips of bacon). The waffle was a bit on the soggy side. The BF had the Denver Omelet with hash browns and a side of bacon. the hash browns were actually very tasty, with a nice crispy layer. It was an all around decent, hearty breakfast...just wish we didn't have to wait so long.

I've been having breakfast at the Original Hut on Lake Tahoe Blvd. since the 80s when my friends and I would visit from college in Santa Barbara for a weekend of skiing and drinking. My family owns a time share condo at the top of the Kingsbury Grade so when they opened this Hut on the Grade I was thrilled to have the same great meal but without as long of a drive (which is an issue when you're hungover). :-) Everything here is great, the food, the service...just perfect. Eggs like you like 'em, crispy bacon, tasty hashbrowns. Yum-o!

Got the special for breakfast and food was top notch. Staff was friendly and the price was very very nice to the wallet..... The only complaint that I have is the other yelpers that wrote a bad review. Come on people this place was nice. And the food is awesome.

Great place for pancakes! I ordered the "pancake sandwich" which consisted of two pancakes the size of your head, two sausages and an egg. The pancakes were fluffy and very delicious. My boyfriend ordered the waffles. I didn't think there was anything special about the waffles... so I would avoid those if you come here. However, it seems everything else is great! Service is awesome and the staff is so friendly. It's a cute setting and I felt like I was eating at a local spot that nobody else knew about. I would come here again!

Not that I would know, but this place feels so SLT to me. I LOVE IT. It's not uncommon for me to have breakfast here multiple times a trip. I love that the Red Hut Cafe is just straight up no frills great breakfast. Nice portions at good prices. Basic stuff prepared WELL. Don't come here if you want seared ahi bendict with mango truffle oil hollandaise. Come if you want perfectly golden pancakes or a big ol' cheesy omelet! I'm not kidding about the cheesy omelets. My lactose intolerant arse was ruined for a day. It was almost worth it!! The food is good, but spendy as is expected in South lake. The service however is consistently lackluster to disappointing. Also worst bloody mary i've ever had.

Got the Avocado Omelette and added green chiles to it. Kept me full all day! The service was really good too.

"Best place for breakfast in S Lake Tahoe when you are hung over" should be there motto. So of course I visit this place everytime I'm in Tahoe. Ya just need some grease for all that alcohol. I usually get an omelet and pour tons of hot sauce all over it and and than mustard on the hash browns. Breakfast of Champions Yo! Than I'm ready for round II!

Friday morning, 8 am, no wait to be seated. Excellent service, great prices, large portions. The coffee was excellent. The omelets were good but I've had better. Bacon waffle was very good. There are three Red Hut Cafes in South Lake - we chose this one to avoid the wait at the new one and it was a great choice. Will definitely return the next time we need b-fast in South Lake.

OK, here is the deal.... The food is great ! Service is great ! It's all good except.. They are just a little pricey. Most all of the locals would agree. If your on a budget not a real good deal for your buck. Unless you order the " usual" with no coffee.....

  • Mr. O.

Sleazy looking, half way clean feeling, a place where Mike and Molly would feel right at home. The salty corn beef hash, large portions, and bland coffee are good for serious hangovers and people living in low rent properties around Tahoe. Would not go back unless at gun point!

This is our favorite red hut in town! The food is awesome every time! The blueberry French toast is my favorite. The entire restaurant is filled with Tahoe history which is amazing! Everyone who works there is awesome and is always helpful! As far as price, it is priced appropriately for being in Tahoe. You can pay 5.99 for "the usual" (hash browns, a biscuit with gravy, and eggs) and get real food or you can go buy processed food from Mc Donald's for 3.89, your choice. If someone doesn't like this place they either have never had a real breakfast or they are a "hipster". ***News flash***. There's a menu that states prices and options if you don't like it, leave. We don't want to wait 30 minutes to enjoy the breakfast we love so that you can eat and then complain about it.

We love this place! Awesome omelettes and hash browns. Qiaint decor. Sometimes a line to wait.

  • Terri O.

This place has about 20 tables. I ordered the mushroom burger with grilled onions and green bell peppers. It was very flavorful and filling. One of the best burgers I have had in a long time. The service was slow because there was only two waitresses. I waited about 10 minutes after we paid for a waitress to come to the table for a to go box. No one came back to the table after they set the check down. So I had to send my daughter to get a box

One of my favorite spots to eat at when I'm in Tahoe! Red hut has tons of character. You have that old log cabin feel to it. It's not a big place, but huge on warmth from the customers to the employees. You feel like you know everyone. The food is great! Im a waffle whore! I mean gigolo! Haha (thanks David G) There waffles are da bomb! Crisp and light. I always get a banana pecan waffle. I loooove their hash browns. Freshly shredded and crispy yet tender on the inside. You pretty much can't go wrong with what you order as everything is pretty darn good. It's like a ritual for me now to come to Red hut then right after, head for the hills and go snowboarding. The two to me go hand in hand

Excellent service. I'm from out of town visiting for the weekend. Wanted to find a good place for breakfast and thank God we found this place. Staff was very sweet personable and attentive. Feels family owned. Glad we didn't settle on Dennys or another chain resturant.

I searched all over help for a good little cafe and Red Hut certainly is it; I thought I should contribute and help sway people this way! I ordered a breakfast to go- omelette with spinach, onion and chicken apple sausage, fruit and breakfast potatoes. SUPER yummy, fresh and filling.

There aren't too many places reviewed on yelp for great breakfast/brunch options, although The Red Hut Cafe did pop up. So, we headed there for a late brunch on a weekday. Only a handful of customers when we arrived, so we chose a spot by the window. Looking over the menu, it felt like something was missing. The Husband commented that they sure didn't have a whole lot to choose from. The waitress came by to get our order and we asked if they had any specials. Thank goodness we asked because that really is where all the good stuff is! (Everything people yelped about is from the specials' menu!) We took a walk over to the counter to check out their dry erase board and saw a few things for us to choose from. The Husband went for the Country Fried Steak, which came with Two Eggs (over easy), Hash Browns, and Toast (Sourdough). He commented that they do their breading differently on the steak. I went for the Biscuits and Gravy (because other yelpers have mentioned it), and it came with Two Eggs (sunny side up) and Hash Browns. Overall, it was a decent diner breakfast. Nothing really exceptional about the food, but it satisfies what you're looking for in terms of a heavy brunch. Just be sure not to miss the specials board because that's what you're looking for! Definitely a place the locals return to! (Pics posted!)

Thank you, fellow Yelpers. Because of you, I found the Red Hut. The manfolk had the jalapeno bacon omelet (which was LOADED with bacon) and the infamous hash-browns. I had the blueberry strudel french toast and, of course, BACON! We both loved our meals and appreciated the cozy atmosphere. It was a weekday so we got lucky and were seated immediately. Great service and wonderful food. I wish they were in Oregon... Take advantage if you can!

The food was great and they did have corn beef hash. I also liked the local crowd and the friendly staff. However, the service was a bit slow and the close quarters made it a little warm inside. However, I'd come back to this place in a minute.

Yes ... this place is AWESOME. It's my favorite place for breakfast from 6AM to 2PM in South Lake Tahoe. Today was my first time there and it certainly won't be my last. I had the "Waffle Sandwich" - Waffle with fresh butter, 2 slices of heart healthy bacon, and an over-easy egg. My counter-neighbor had the "Weekend-only special" - Chili Bean, Cheese, and Onion Omelet with hash browns and toast. This looked incredible and I was willing to increase my risk of having a heart-attack by consuming this lovely creation. Pros: + Affordable prices. + Super friendly wait staff + Super friendly patrons + Authentic Old School Atmosphere + Cool Counter for fast service! + Gift shop for Red Hut Swag + Daily Specials Cons: - potentially long waits - CASH ONLY - NO Corned Beef Hash Can't wait to go back to LAKE TAHOE just to eat here.

If I could give this place a negative or big fat ZERO I would have. My fiance and I were in South Lake Tahoe for a nice weekend getaway. We had a great time up til we came here. The day before we were at Driftwood Cafe and had a nice breakfast, however since we weren't familiar with the area we wanted to try another place for comparison. We came in a little before 11am and the place was a cute little diner with red and black chairs. We thought 'wow this place looks like a real legit diner', and not a huge crowd so maybe we'll get our food quickly, WRONG! We sat down for what seems like 15 sec before our waitress came and asked for our order. We told her we just sat down, so she left and didn't come back for another 20+ mins. In the meantime, people were starting to come in and filling up the place. We noticed everyone around us who came after had ordered and received their food before we ordered ours! We finally ordered and watched the place emptied before we received our food. Once the food came, we were not impressed! The one piece of toast that came with my fiance's meal was broken in a weird place but they still gave it to him anyways. Since everyone in the diner were Caucasian, my fiance can't help but think that we were singled out because he is Jewish and I am Asian. I'm not gonna go there and give this place the benefit of the doubt and just say that they have REALLY bad service instead. Even if the food was amazing, I would still not want to come back because of how we were treated! We were less than thrilled with the experience!

It's really hard to screw up breakfast right? So the food was decent here but not great and the staff was friendly. Here's the reason I can't really agree with all the five stars: For $8 I expected a big fat belgian waffle. Instead I got a thin mediocre and not very crispy Waffle House waffle. Now, I love the Waffle House as much as the next girl...but a WH waffle is about $3, not EIGHT. My hubby was very disappointed that his almost ten dollar omelet was only so-so. He said it had very little veggies in it. Overall, three stars for good coffee and pretty fast food.

This place is So Cute!! We actually used Yelp to find it. The Service was great and the food was sooooo gooood!!! Try the bacon waffle :) I still put strawberries and whip cream on it. The cook even looked back at us and we had a good laugh over it since I had everything on it, even some syrup. We sat at the bar/counter. It was the best I've ever had! My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak and it came with plenty. You'll get your money's worth. Can't wait to go again.

Yep, this is the one (the smaller one, right?). There are two - come to this one - especially when your head is still-a-spinning after the annual labor day drunkenness. Good, good, hearty breakfast fare. I don't think they stay open too long after noon (or, my sadist friends have just been effing with me - I am NOT a morning gall! - although, I am a bit jealous and peeved with the happy morning people who have weeded before the 110 degree heat hits here in Sacto.!) For you Sac. peeps, think "pancake circus fare", minus the scary clown/70's decor (shhh, I secretly luv those cheesy digs).

Awesome food. Period. That is reason enough to drag yourself to the Red Hut Cafe for breakfast if you are staying in South Tahoe. Cute yet small historic hole in the wall cafe, with limited seats available, so expect a wait if it's high season. Service was prompt and friendly as we were there on a Wed morning in April. Loved the asparagus cheese omlette as well as the waffle! Great yelp find! CASH only so beware.

  • Omid T.

Of the two Red Hut locations, you're most likely to find me here. It's not only less crowded (hardly ever a wait!), but it's steps away from the Kingsbury Crossing condos, and closer to the Nevada-side resorts and casinos. Otherwise, the same family serves up the same fare as the overcrowded sister restaurant in South Lake. And what hearty fare it is! My usual order is biscuits & gravy with eggs. In fact, they call it "The Usual." I'd like to think that they did it in honor of my steady patronage, but considering they're the best biscuits & gravy this side of the Mason-Dixon line, I'm pretty sure it's a lot of people's "usual." But sometimes, when you're still drunk from the night before, you can go for something a bit more UNusual. This is where the bacon and coconut waffle comes in. Yes, I did say bacon and coconut. You see, on the waffle portion of their menu, they have a decent list of fillings, and go on to say that they'll combine any two of your choice. Being that my friends and I share a love for bacon and coconuts, we ordered a waffle with those two magical ingredients. "I don't think anyone's ever ordred that," the waitress said, thus verifying our status as gastronomic pioneers. When the waffle finally arrived, it was everything we expected. A light, crunchy waffle filled with bits of bacon and shreds of coconut. And it was topped with whipped cream. We went on to pour some maple syrup on it and with three forks devoured this culinary monstrosity. It was marvelous. Orgasmic. A combination of savory and sweet worthy of beatification. To this day, it invades my dreams and plays a role in my breakfast fantasies. Truly a hangover legend. Of course, if you do plan on having a delicious morning-after breakfast, don't have too big a night. By 2:00pm, as the sign says, The Hut is Shut.

my friend is a courier and he had to make a delivery at the mariott out here so we decided to stop in here for breakfast. While the wait was pretty long the portions are HUGE and the food is great. i ordered an omlette with ham, avocado and mushrooms. it was delicious, however i don't really agree with the fact that to add anything to the omlette its like a $1.50 the size of the coke they gave me was pretty immense too. my friend was like "dude, you better not need a refill" i recommend this place, definitely.

Great breakfast spot in Tahoe, probably the best. The servers were very friendly and made you feel right at home. I read a couple of reviews and people were saying great things about their chicken fried steak, so I gave it a shot (along with a side of biscuits and gravy). The chicken fried steak was phenomenal. Great way to start a day of riding. This definitely beats Denny's and Carrow's.

I come here pretty often, and go to the other Red Huts occasionally. This one's my favorite. Not as large as the new one, not as cramped as the old one. I usually get either pancakes or a waffle. Portions are always large and exactly what I'm looking for--nothing fancy, but nothing's poorly done. The 5th star is for the service. Might have to wait awhile if you come on a weekend, but they're always friendly about it. I wouldn't want to come here on a day I wasn't going skiing, though. This ain't health food.

We love this place. We are generally in Tahoe once or twice a year and usually make it to Red Hut at least once while we're there. We went on New Years Day this year and the place was packed. We had to wait, but happily sipped our coffee inside while we waited. We also chatted with the owner and the incredibly friendly woman at the cash register. She was crazy busy, but was super nice to us despite being totally crazed. The food was great too ... A classic greasy spoon which is exactly what we wanted on New Years Day! It's nothing fancy, but it's good with plenty to eat. We ordered a bowl of strawberries, I had the avocado omelette which looked like it had at least the entire avocado on it (no skimping!), my husband had some combo with eggs and pancakes and we shared a side of bacon. Huge amounts of food. All in all, a small, friendly place to have a great meal! We'll definitely be back!

After 2 days of backpacking, we needed some good comfort food, and Red Hut was great! I enjoyed my cheeseburger with fries. My husband liked his omelette with bacon and cheese plus tasty hashbrowns. The service was very good even though they were busy! The prices are very reasonable. The pancakes looked heavenly....

Thanks Yelpers for the recommendation! My family and I visited the original location on Kingsbury Grade and it was delicious. We are in town staying in Zephyr Cove and visiting our family in SLT. We were looking for a place for breakfast and I decided to go online. When we arrived the place was full and you had to write your name on the sign in sheet on the front counter. We waited outside and they came out to call us by name. We were told where to sit and I ordered the Berry Pancake special, my dad got the Don's special, my mom an omelet, and my little brother the mickey pancake and eggs. We all enjoyed our breakfast and although the portions were large, we were surprised that between all of us we finished all the food. It was almost $40 for the 4 of us which really wasn't that bad for the amount we ate and the quality of the food. I would recommend going to the older location on Kingsbury Grade which has a true traditional feel as opposed to the new location on Lake Tahoe Blvd. which would only be a reproduction of that same traditional ambiance.

You must check out this small cozy breakfast joint when you are in Lake Tahoe! We stumbled upon it and were hooked. We ended up visiting this cafe every morning on our trip. We had a chance to try the chicken fried steak, breakfast burrito and biscuits and gravy. It's all really delicious and the portions are huge. Prices are really reasonable too.

Came here the other day for some breakfast and found the food to be just ok. Everything was decent enough, but it was nothing special. I'm a sucker for pancakes, so blueberry short stack it was. They were alright. Not bad, but definitely not as fluffy and good as I had hoped for. I've had some pretty killer pancakes elsewhere. My bf had the western omelet, which he thought was just alright. The hash browns were pretty good though. Nice and crispy like they should be. Prices and portions are average and service is friendly. Overall, I can't say that this was one of the better places I've been to for breakfast, but it was good enough to satisfy my breakfast craving.

  • Andy Z.

Red Hut served me the best damn omelette I have ever had. Four eggs with ham, Monterey Jack Cheese, and Jalapenos. It was absolute perfection. I had to come here two out of the three days I was in town for a pick me up. Too bad there isn't anything like this in the city. I am sick of pretentious over priced hipster brunch places where you have to wait an hour for mediocre food. This is exactly what San Francisco needs.

  • Wanda L.

Our Tahoe trip isn't complete without a trip to Red Hut! Friendly and quick service, cozy atmophere and far from being commercial. I love the omelettes with crunchy hash browns, while my son loves the Mickey pancakes, my husband adores Don's Special of pancakes, eggs and bacon and my daughter goes for either breakfast or lunch. Kingsbury Grade is just the right size for personalized service or calling a wait person for more coffee. Love the clothing line!

Out of the several other restaurants we ate breakfast at this was hands down the best in South Lake Tahoe. If you're looking for a a substantial breakfast that tastes great at reasonable prices this is your place. The servers were very nice and attentive. The food arrived relatively quickly too. Overall this was a great experience and we plan to come back for sure the next time we are in the South Lake Tahoe area.

Since the Red Hut is noted for its waffles, and I like bacon, I tried the bacon waffle. I think they make it by pouring batter into the waffle maker and laying strips of bacon on top, and then pouring more batter on top. I saw the fruit waffles that looked like they were made the same way. But they came piled with fruit on top with a nice whipped cream border. My husband had "the usual" eggs, home fries, bacon - not fancy, but your average American breakfast. The funny thing is, we really liked the coffee, and even asked what the brand is, so I was surprised to read the other reviews. We found out it is Farmer's Brothers and not available to us. However, if you are a fan of the usual breakfast place coffee, you just might be disappointed. As for me, I like Peet's so this was a really pleasant surprise. If you are into a fancy, refined breakfast place, good luck finding a place in Tahoe. But if you are up for a down-home friendly place, you'll feel right at home here.

Spent a week over 4th of July in Tahoe. Several years ago had eaten at the original Red Hut on Highway 50. So we wanted to try the one on Kingsbury Grade. Food was outstanding. In fact, so good we went back a second day during our stay. Great place for breakfast. Prices are reasonable. Portions are generous. Well, worth the wait for an outstanding breakfast.

  • Dee B.

I'm pretty shocked that there are so many positive reviews. We based our choice on them & were sorely disappointed. There were 6 of us, so I think we had a pretty wide range of foods and each one of us was pretty unhappy with our food, with a couple minor exceptions. We had a mix of breakfast (decent omelette), pancakes, etc and lunch (salads, hamburgers, etc. (decent fries). The atmosphere was "cute"...kind of like an old-fashioned diner so we had high hopes for the hamburgers. They were dry, over-cooked and that was a major disappointment. There were a couple of positive points. The service was very nice. Also, someone ordered a chocolate milkshake and it was amaaazing. There's a soda fountain in another part of the restaurant so I'll bet all their ice cream is good. Other than that, find another place to eat.

I ate here while visiting a friend, on his reference. The staff was very friendly and the food came out very quickly. Too quickly. Our hashbrowns were well done on the outside & raw in the middle. I had a western omlette & the cubes of ham were like eraser heads, hard & chewy, not tender. We were really looking forward to a good cup of coffee also & the busboy gave us luke warm servings. I cook a mean breakfast at home so when I eat out I expect alot. This was a little.

My wife and I decided to go to breakfast and wanted to look in Yelp and see what restaurant(s) is highly rated. So here we see that Red Hut Cafe was rated fairly high. We went there and the host said that the wait for two people is only 5 to 10 min. Well we stood there close to the front area and were eye ballin' two empty two tops sitting there empty for 30 min. when we were finally seated. So we figure the food must be worth it....NOT! I requested soft scramble and my wife ordered streusel french toast...what I got was over cooked hard scramble and the wife got blueberry french toast. I only received one piece of toast instead of the more usual two pieces. The food was nothing to rave about...we will never come back here again nor will we recommend it.

3.5 stars! This is a very mom and pop diner... or so I thought. We drive down the same street and you will run into 2 more! But it doesn't change the appeal, they had a meal called "the usual" and I liked that. I read the menu and it was called a Waffle Shop before, I ordered the banana waffle. Very yummy with whip cream all over it too! The boyfriend had an omelet. The portions are HUGE! My favorite thing there were the hash browns. Some people go for the entrees, but I LOVE sides! Especially when they are potatoes. This place just offers GOOD diner food. Simply.

Great local business. The food it bountiful and delicious. They're always welcome to customize your order, and all the waitresses were extremely friendly. Came here for breakfast everyday during my stay in Tahoe, and you can tell they do really care about customer service and providing the most satisfying breakfast meal for their customers. It's a tiny space, but it's nice and cozy!

Great place to have breakfast if you are in the Tahoe area! I believe there a few locations but this one I went to was east of the hotels on the strip. It is a very small but homey looking restaurant. Everyone here is really nice and the prices are very reasonable. I ended up sharing the don's special with my boyfriend because we wanted to save our tummies for the buffet we had planned for dinner :) the don's special had 2 eggs, 2 pancakes and 3 pieces of sausage or bacon. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious, they even have the REAL syrup here! No artificial stuff :) We also ordered a side of hashbrowns and oh my goodness it was perfectly crispy!

We didn't end up going to the actual restaurant at Red Hut, but to the newly opened Soda Fountain attachment that apparently just opened 3 weeks ago. They're still painting decorations and getting the finishing touches, but it's also a nice place. We arrived for ice cream after a long day boating on the lake, sat down at the pristine 1950s style counter and ordered a banana split to share. The menu specials were hand written and you could smell the vanilla off the waffle iron making cones. The boy behind the counter was new and probably no more than 16, but he tried to flirt with the three girls in bathing suits and in the process, forgot to place the banana at the bottom of our split. He remedied that in a slightly embarrassed way, but it was very cute. The ice cream was dense and decadent with chocolate syrup, marshmallow cream and strawberry topping. They had a choice of pecans or almonds, and he even gave us three cherries to top it off. That ice cream, that environment and everything about it was exactly what we needed that afternoon.

Stopped in here for lunch after the drive up from San Jose but after reading reviews I'm thinking it should have opted for brunch. The fam and I ended up ordering an assortment of burgers and sandwiches which I found pretty standard and overpriced. Would not stop in again for lunch items but maybe one more time to give their boasted brunches a try...

Was starving to death, was about to leave south lake tahoe, definitely yelped this place up. There was a biscuits and gravy special with eggs and hash browns for under 7 dollars..... BOMB!!! I ate at Ihop the day before, didnt even know why i thought that could be called breakfast for the cheap crap but this place was delicious. Definitely check out the place and eat up before hitting the slopes. also, waitress was definitely cute.

This is the place to soak up the local atmosphere. It is not a place to get good food. The food is diner fare, pretty average. Folding eggs over some vegetables and/or meat then melting cheese on top is not, nor will it ever be an omelet.

The great service gets a 5, the burgers a 3, and the fries are a solid 1. Even the great service and charming setting could not make up for the mediocre taste of the burgers and flavorless fries we ordered. I'll never go back. I had the burger with the thousand island dressing, jalapenos, bacon, cheese, onion rings, and bbq sauce. It was juicy, but the consistency was like pre-pressed frozen patties, overly ground to a too fine texture. They pile the plates over half full with french fries, but these tasted like cardboard. I am a french fry freak, and if it's true that you are what you eat, than much of my extra thigh meat is the result of my love of french fries. But the fries here did not tempt me to eat more than four of them. I'm from Pasadena, CA, known for it's great eateries. That said, I realize I may have higher than normal culinary standards, so to be fair, I've come to the decision to rate restaurants by how much better their food tastes than what I am capable of cooking at home. Compared to this place, my burgers are 5 star, and my fries are a 3. Maybe they cook great breakfast foods here, but the burgers are underwhelming.

Seriously hearty breakfast. 4-egg omlettes! Hazzah! OK. One minor complaint: "Biscuits and Gravy" suggests more than one biscuit, which was not the case upon arrival at the table. *sad face* Love this spot for breakfast around South Tahoe.

Chicken fried steak with country gravy, hashbrowns and two eggs over easy all on one plate, bowl of biscuits and gravy then serve to starving patrons. Really enjoyed my meal.

I really didint like redhut. The omlet i had was overcooked, the service was slow, and the food at the end of the day was mediocre at best. I feel like they think since the are in the mountains, people dont have much of a choice so they can afford to give bad service. I wasnt very happy at all. Anyway the portions were HUGE. Also, this is a personal note but they didnt have eggs benedict.. which was a little upsetting. other than that i will definitely give them another shot to see if this was just a day when they were off, hopefully it was. Update to come:

We stopped in the Red Hut Cafe on highway 207 for breakfast one morning on our way out of town and they provided a pretty decent meal at a good price. Nothing special by any stretch of the imagination, with gross, bitter coffee and about 3 different servers throughout the meal, but our expectations weren't high. They did throw down some decent waffles and eggs and the service was prompt and efficient. Good spot for a cheap and greasy breakfast.

This is a place where I wish I had a half a star to go to 3 1/2 . I am not factoring in the wait in this review, because it was about an hour, but I knew there was going to be a wait and it's not their fault. How did I know? I read Yelp! reviews, that's how I know. They felt bad about the wait, asking us if we wanted to sit at the counter, but I don't do counters. It was cool, a nice day outside. The rumors of giant breakfasts here are true. A four egg omelet that barely fit on my plate, with a large helping of professionally-done, crunchy hash browns. Coffee was OK, but it kept coming. The lad had his usual bacon cheeseburger, and it looked like there was at least five or six pieces of nice bacon on it. Excellent fries. The wife had a spinach omelet, and I could see a handful of fresh spinach in there. This is plain "diner" food which you'll find back East in a thousand different places, so don't expect Guy Fieri to show up ooohing and aaahhing. But plain diner food is GOOD, OK? It would be interesting to see what they'd serve for dinner, but I doubt they could keep up the pace after seeing that crowd today. One minor drawback-- if you do come on a busy day, you wait on a bench right outside the windows, where you can watch people attacking their food, and they can watch you. I don't mind giving some puppy-dog eyes to someone eating while I'm waiting, but I don't like it done to me. I should have had some pancakes or waffles, because this tiny chain of three restaurants specializes in that sort of thing, from what I understand. The place at 2723 Lake Tahoe Blvd. is the original "waffle house" and there's another one on Ski Run Blvd. Warning: It's "cozy" in there. If you're a real estate agent, you'll recognize this euphemism for "tiny." The hard ceiling bounces sound around and it the sound level is a little higher than I like. Definitely a great breakfast (or lunch) place but you're not going to play three sets of tennis afterward.

Cute, small diner in South Lake. It is a great alternative to Denny's or IHOP. Basic meals like eggs, omelets, hash browns, ect. They do not take debit/credit cards, so bring a bunch of cash. Sometimes there is a wait on Saturdays or Sundays but no place to wait inside, which can be sort of annoying.

Some of the best pancakes I have ever had. They were VERY accommodating of our toddler twins and the mess they left behind. I can't wait to go back.

GREAT breakfast! NO wait on a Saturday morning at Brunch Prime Time. I had the omelette with tomato, green onion and cheese. It was delicious and came with a dollop of sour cream (bonus!). The hashbrowns were prepared perfectly and the biscuit I had instead of toast was delectable. Oh, and good bacon too, my friend and I shared a side of it. Service was flawless, friendly but not fake-ass. PERFECT. CASH only, so stop at the ATM before you come in.

PRO: * HUGE omlettes (and usually very tasty!) * friendly service * reasonable prices * have been coming here since forever * epitomizes the classic diner experience * convenient location (just up Kingsbury Grade, near the casinos) CON: * always eat too much thanks to my generous sister-in-law treating * tight on table space meaning there's usually a wait on the weekends or challenges when your group includes more than 4 people * only reason it doesn't rate 5 stars is because sometimes the huge portions will be a bit over-cooked ASIDE: * for the first time ever, didn't recognize a single server; maybe they're working at the new Red Hut with the ice cream * maybe 5 years ago, saw a bear cub dash up the large tree right next to the RH; we went outside to stare at it until someone remarked, "Hmmm, wonder where Mother Bear is..."

My only regret in life, besides not chasing the Burberry skirt, is that I have been going to Tahoe for years and have only just found out about the hut. By far one of the coolest breakfast places around. Whatever you are doing, whatever your plans, alter them and go get "The Usual" at the hut. Honestly, where else will you find short order cooks slinging hash that look like they do at the hut? The only problem is that the place is so popular that you will most likely end up waiting for a table for at least 30 minutes. Just get a good seat and people watch.

A lot of people think that just because this is a local Tahoe business means it will be good. The food is way overpriced for what you get. Every single time I come here my eggs are runny, my toast and French toast looks as though it's been smashed on a table a couple of times, and the portions are so small, you're better off going to the store to make yourself something. I'm overwhelmed with what good service they have there. HAHAHAHA Good luck trying to flag down a waitress to refill your drink, give you any extras(napkins, syrup, ketchup, ect.), or to try to pay. The last time I went here I asked the waitress for syrup and she looked at me as though I had asked her to give me her first born to season my food with. She made me feel sooooo uncomfortable. Both my boyfriend and I were pretty much ready to leave after all the evil looks she gave us for me trying to flag her down. Finally after 10 minutes of waiting I walked up and down the rows of people to see who was finished with their syrup and if I could have it. The lady sat a family down next to us and the children ordered waffles, I automatically gave them my syrup so they wouldn't have to wait. My boyfriend enjoyed his food, mine was ok. The atmosphere and welcoming staff make me want to come back here again and again. And I've tried this exact location and their two others multiple times. Like I said better off going to the store. I just can't give them any more tries to redeem themselves.

I had the protein breakfast - hamburger patty, eggs, cottage cheese. My wife had the waffle sandwich. Both were good and as described. Service was attentive and comfortable. The bill was reasonable. The cafe presents itself as a good, solid cafe that delivers good food at a reasonable price, and that is exactly what it is.

A trip to South Lake Tahoe wouldn't be complete without a big breakfast at Red Hut Cafe. This charming diner with black tables and red chairs serves AMAZING pancakes. And their ham steak and hash browns are sooo salty and tasty!! And their "usual" is an inexpensive plateful of simple goodness: two eggs, hasbrowns and a mouth-watering biscuit and gravy. Amazing breakfast. Highly recommended.

Boy. I was sooooo hung over when we stopped in at the Red Hut one Sunday morning. If you're freshly off a bender (or maybe still on one), Red Hut can cure what ails you. Supposedly the way you know if you're going to be able to get food down again is if the food smells good to you and makes you hungry. We got the Usual, which is one biscuit and gravy, two eggs, and hash browns. Mmmm. And they didn't even mind that partway through I had to go rest my head against the wall. I like you, little Hut. p.s. while waiting for your table or counterspace don't lay on the grass of the church next door. there are giant ants. Mmmm.

I'm sorry, but i don't understand the allure of this place. The food is just o.k. nothing special. It cost us $46.00 for 4 of us to eat, and we are talking cheap food. No flavor. It was a clean restaurant and we did not have to wait to be seated. Staff was timely, but I would not call them friendly. More like going through the motions. I would say save the money and hit Mcdonalds.

OK REWIND... I went back to Red Hut Cafe with some friends who were visiting prior to boarding. I seemed to have missed that they DO have Chicken Fried Steak on their specials menu. Of course I had to get it and it was DELICIOUS. The steak was thick and meaty, nice and semi-crunchy exterior with an oh-so drool worthy sausage white gravy. So now, I have to re-rate: 5 stars for the pancakes, 5 starts for the CFS = 5 STARS! _____________________________ 5 stars for the pancake and 3 stars for no chicken fried steak, WTF! = 4 stars So I am an ultimate brunch person and I LOVE LOVE LOVE breakfast past 12pm. Maybe it's because I'm just too grouchy anytime before 12 to want to eat, talk, be nice, be patient, basically... I don't want to be a decent human being until noon. Based off of yelper's reviews and that Red Hut was situated right at the bottom of where I turn at Kingsbury Grade, I decided to pop in for some serious breakfast food. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. Definitely a locals joint (the one on Kingsbury at least since it's slightly hidden). The servers were so sweet and we had easy and friendly conversation (this is past 12 remember, so I was civilized by then!) My favorite thing for brunch is chicken fried steak, healthy I know! But sadly, they are more of a traditional eggs, pancakes, waffles, french toast type place. I settled on 2 eggs sunnyside up w/ bacon and 1 pancake. Food came right up quickly, maybe too quickly since I was so absorbed with reading the Twilight series at that time. Everything was good and to my liking. Then the pancake came out. OMG, it was the size of Texas. It was the perfect consistency, it was the perfect amount of burnt, it was HEAVENLY... I'm so glad I found this place. It's gonna be my regular past 12pm breakfast spot. When I no longer live in SLT, I will still remember my little red hut... and drag my friends here for the pancakes. YUM.

My bf and I arrived to South Lake Tahoe ahead of schedule and came across this cafe on yelp... We figured 4 stars from 79 reviews w/ one dollar sign might be worth a try. This cafe is quaint and very homey. I think its family owned. Anyhow, I ordered "the usual" (2 eggs, hashbrowns, and one biscuit and gravy) he ordered a waffle sandwich. Both breakfast items were so delicious! I definitely see us eating here in the future if we're ever up in South Lake Tahoe.

My wife and I are on Vacation and after seeing the reviews and noticing that it was literally across the street from our hotel, we decided to try The Red Hut. When we got there, we were welcomed by almost everyone in the restaurant, I haven't felt like Norm from Cheers in quite a while, so needless to say it was a great start. The food was really good, and the portions were Huge! I had an omelette that was as big as the plate and 8 hours later, I'm still not hungry. This place was definitely worth the visit and I will be going back for breakfast during the rest of my stay here in beautiful Lake Tahoe!

Our trips to Tahoe would not be complete without a hearty breakfast meal from Red Hut Cafe. Place is super small, but the food is fantastic. Service has always been good and I always leave with a very happy belly. My recommendation... Go for any of their waffles (you can't go wrong). They are super-delish.

I had heard from my co-workers all year that this place rocks, but I never had the chance to go until recently. I went to bruch with my friend and had a fantastic omlette. You get a lot of food for the price, which is important to me. They were extremely friendly and I had a great time. My only complaint is that they don't take credit cards.

My wife and i have been using Yelp with great success for the past year or so. Since Red Hut was given an average of four stars by Yelpers I was pretty confident we would be happy with the joint. Boy were we disappointed. Given we went on a busy Saturday morning we were seated relatively quickly (about 15 minutes). The wait staff was courteous and found us a decent table. I was immediately surprised at how loud the place was as it was an acoustic nightmare with extremely high ceilings. The menu was limited to say the least but we were both able to find omelets with ingredients to our liking. The food arrived surprisingly fast however upon inspection it was clearly substandard. My meal was as ordered however the hash browns were over cooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside. The omelet was undercooked with runny eggs, only partially melted cheese, and crunchy vegetables. My wife's on the other hand was over cooked with eggs that were not fully beaten (you could clearly see large portions of egg white throughout). In addition the cheese was non-existent. To top it all off it included an approximately 1/4" egg shell. We are generally pretty easy going but I actually created an account on Yelp just to encourage people to avoid this restaurant. This was probably the worst breakfast out I have ever been served.

4.5 stars for the best breakfast nook in South Lake! I first discovered this special place when I was a kid learning to ski the slopes of Heavenly! Now.... 20 years later I have returned to find everything just as I remember.... classic and vintage atmosphere with the best breakfast plates in town! I really enjoy this place everytime I snowboard or Mountain bike the many trails that South Lake has to offer. Last Friday I had the 2 eggs, biscuit and gravy with a side of bacon! WOOOHOO! Da MONEY!

Great old school diner/cafe joint. The place is small but luckily there was no wait when we got there. The service is very friendly and quick. The prices are very affordable as well. Only bad thing is that they don't accept credit. Nothing super special as its typical american breakast/lunch fare, but everything we tried was how you expect these items to taste so it was really good. Their french fries really stood out because they were so fresh and crunchy.

I LOVE IT BUT IT CAN BE A-OK AT TIMES! I have a timeshare near this old style traditional pancake breakfast house past the stateline in South Lake Tahoe. I love the little walk down a drive way to get this cozy old school joint. They have three locations and have been serving meals since Mac started it in 1959. I order a four egg omelet with cheese, bacon, tomato and onions. It's perhaps one of my favorite things next to the special Eggs Benedict. It is served with hash browns, choice of toast but I get the english muffin with yummy butter for those nooks and crannys! I also love my bacon so I order a side of that too. I love the size portions, but today I was served a burnt english muffin and dark over crisp bacon. I didn't say anything but then the server was quick to point that fresh bacon was coming out soon. If Mac, from 1959, was going to give an english muffin or bacon to a customer, I bet it never went out burt! If a cook is aware that it sucks and is making it better, tell me to wait a minute before you serve me crap! I've been going here for years with my family and friends, I know the food is much better, so I recommend this, I'M A FAN, but sometimes its just A-OK!

We have always eaten at the original cafe. Our first trip to this location was this past June. We were seated quickly, but took a while to be approached by the wait service. We had to tell them that we had no table ware. Our food was served and still no table ware. Food was good after all.

Breakfast here was perfectly fine. Nothing too spectacular. I will say, however, that for a place known for its waffles, they served thin and uncrispy ones. So, if you come in expecting thick and crispy Belgian waffles, you may leave disappointed.

I thought this was interesting and worthy of your attention. Apparently (however, not surprising) i cannot spell...shame on me. But thanks to this lovely lady named Susan W., (who i suspect is more than a loyal customer of The Red Hut Cafe) that sad fact was pointed out to me and i will surely be on my way to ESL classes right away. I do think, though, that it is NOT a cool thing to do if you indeed are the place owner, Susan and do not accept criticism. I think a decent thing to do would be to appologize to a customer who got a bad taste in the mouth after visiting your joint ("bad taste" get it? lol) and maybe asking for their advice on how you can improve your service and make sure i do not share my bad experience with others. Here is the reply i got from lovely Susan, feast your eyes: Susan W. has sent you a message on Yelp: "You should be as embarrassed about your wild guesses at basic spelling as you say the Red Hut should be about their BLEND, BLEND, BLEND food. "A whooping $8.99" like a whoop and a holler "do yourself, your wallet, and your pallet a favor" like a pallet to stack goods on "BLEND, BLEND BLENDEST" Oh my God bland, blander, blandest The work is freakin' BLAND you idiot Big portions...like the humongous hot air review you wrote? Big portions of hot air writing?? How could anyone take even the good points you made seriously??? Open up your own "Fancy" Cafe and let's see how you do...starting with an illiterately written menu Unreal"

Favorite of the Red Hut locations. Small, and if you get there real early in the morning it is just you and the police eating breakfast. Gets swamped by midmorning. Their pancakes are the best part of their menu, the eggs dishes are rather plain but good. A nice Tahoe vibe. You will get a lot of food, which most customers are looking for in a breakfast place in Tahoe. So while not great, definitely a hearty way to start your morning in the Sierras.

I came here strictly based on yelp.com reviews of the place. Needless to say I wasn't let down. I ordered the "French toast special" (three peices of your choice of toast, french style..lol...with bacon or sausage) Next time I'll just get the French toast because the bacon sucked, I could have cooked better bacon at home, and I suck at makin bacon, seriously! My husband ordered a side of strawberries with his meal and they tasted like they came from someones garden that morning. They were so fresh and delicious. All in all the experience was good, attentive staff, cheap prices, and surprisingly to us we had zero wait time!

Five stars for consistency, longevity and the "locals" feel. We've made the Red Hut part of our family tradition for over 20 years (starting at S Lake Tahoe location). It's rare to be able to take your kids to the same restaurant you frequented when you were a teenager. No boring franchise food. Authentic greasy spoon, great homestyle breakfasts, and symbolizes what Tahoe used to be about: families enjoying the natural beauty of a spectacular place!

OOOH how I love these places..... sat at the Counter, my coffee cup never got lower than 1/2 empty. Great Service. Great little spot, definitely worth the old school charm and wait.

Umm undercooked eggs anyone?? Ordered the bacon and cheese omelette. First off it's literally eggs with cheese and two pieces bacon (not chopped up or anything) placed in the middle. I went to take a bite and the eggs were still runny.... Ya I'm not going to risk salmonella for this cheap plate (not really cheap it's $10 a pop for this 3 item disaster). Plus the hash-browns were half burned and half under cooked.... Not coming back here ever.

Really enjoyed this place while on vacation in Tahoe. Service was great, family style and welcoming. The food was above average and better than the casinos. This place is soooo bomb-digitty good!!!! This place doesn't serve over a party of 5 in the same table. You will have to separate in groups if over 5 people in the group. This place is small and cozy. The food is very simple, from pancakes to waffles and all the way omelets. I had the waffles and hash browns. Oh goody! The waffles were PERFECT I've ever tasted (salivating right now as I'm typing this review) and the hash browns were so creaking crispy and buttered perfectly. The service can be mildly slow, but it is understandable because this place gets so packed. People were standing all the way outside to dine here. This place is great to go if you're ever in South Lake Tahoe. Trust me on this one!

This is a great breakfast spot near Stateline in Lake Tahoe. It's on the Kingbury Grade and very hard to find so keep your eyes open. We got waffles, biscuits and gravy and their Red Hut Rosti (Hashbrowns with bacon, onions, cheese and sour cream)! The biscuits and gravy were great. Fresh biscuits and the gravy had good flavor. The waffles were also good. Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Plus you can also have bacon inside of it! Which we did and it was good. Out of everything we had the must try is the Red Hut Rosti. It takes hashbrowns to a different level. The bacon, cheese and sour cream give hashbrowns a whole new flavor. Service was good, not great. It's a very small diner that seats about 20-25 people. It totally fits the Lake Tahoe area. A woodsy diner with a homie feeling.

We have visited the Red Hut Kingsbury Grade location several times. In fact we go there every time we visit SLT. I would have normally given them a 5 star rating but yesterday when we went - we were not impressed. The coffee tasted terrible. Our omelets were so thin - nothing to them. I ordered the bacon omelet and my husband ordered the spinach. The bacon omelet had a couple of thin slices of bacon and a couple of thin slices of cheese inside. No cheese on the outside. Mine was over $10 and his was over $9. I had fresh fruit instead of potatoes - The fruit very good and fresh.

Red Hut, oh Red Hut... how we love you so. Go to Red Hut but be there before 1:30pm because they close at 2pm. Don't say I didn't warn ya... Get their waffle sandwich but ask for them to cut the bacon up in bits and put it in the waffle. (It's delicious and when they cut the bacon up, I can more easily share it with my toddler.) Also make sure you choose the sourdough toast, when given the choice. And the hash browns. Oh, and their sausage and cheese omelette has more sausage and cheese than I've ever seen elsewhere. Their hot cocoa is delicious. So is their sausage and bacon... My least favorite thing is the biscuits and gravy but that's the only thing I've had that I wouldn't reorder. Everything is usually above great. Definitely see ya there.

Went here for breakfast and it was great. Everything tasted as it should have and with great flavor. Not greasy, either. Girlfriend got the biscuits and gravy and the gravy was fantastic with the hash browns. I would be happy to return next time in in Tahoe.

This place is seriously amazing. The guy waiter, I don't think he ever told us his name, was super friendly and when I told him I was getting the bacon waffle he said "ooh good choice" that's what I strive to hear every time I order something. The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with real strips of bacon within. At first I was like "7.69 for one waffle?" But then I took a bite and it blew my mind. My man got the French toast, with blueberry strussle bread, and again the guy waiter said "that's the way to go". My man also got a side of bacon and he liked the way it was cooked but it was a tiny bit crispy for my taste. ($8.99) We were also feeling like fatty's so we ordered a side of hash browns (2.99) and two eggs over medium (1.00 each). Everything was cooked perfectly and to order. Overall I was super happy with our choice of The Red Hut. $23.10 for us to stuff our faces with delicious food AND have some left over?! Great value for the epic food. The guy even gave us a tip for a certain loose slot casino for our day trip to Virginia City! I'll let you know with an update if we hit the jackpot!

Place is small but you can tell it's one of those hole in the wall places that's been around for a long time and will continue to be around for a long time because they have great food. Service was quick, food was yummy. Good portions for the price. I got "the usual" biscuits and gravy, 2 eggs, and hashbrown for $5.99 can't go wrong there. Will defiantly be back!

Food was awesome! Service was a little friendlier/quicker at the Red Hut on Ski Run but this location was able to sit us right away. Definitely a must when traveling to Tahoe.

Had breakfast at the Red Hut Cafe on Kingsbury Grade in South Lake Tahoe this morning. Great Service, great food. The Ham & Cheese omelet was fantastic and their French Toast is amazing

With the friendly service, I will get them 3.5 star. Burger is pretty solid and it worth 4 stars. But the coffee is far too watery so it only deserve 2 stars. Banana pancake is average, a little bit sticky after your bite. I like they toasted the bottom of the bread and put some mustard on and beef patty is pretty juices. I order a mushroom cheese burger with pepper jack cheese. Like it!

3.5 Don't come here expecting much of a healthy meal. It's good old comfort food, plain and simple. Nothing fancy. The Irishman was in need of a second breakfast at lunchtime, so we ended up here. Service was okay. We had to hunt someone down for a refill for our coffee and to get the check so we could pay it and get out of there; I asked for fries very lightly done, and they came back pretty well done. It was as if the waitress didn't hear my specific request (though she nodded her head when I mentioned it), but I didn't have much time to waste as I had to get back to the office, so I didn't complain. The place seemed fairly busy for a weekday lunch, so kudos for them.

We must have visited on the wrong day. The food was mediocre even in such a small place. The worst customer service experience EVER! Will not recommend or visit again!

Weak I've been going to the Red Hut for years during vacations and I'm afraid the food quality is eroding. Earlier this week I stopped by for biscuits and gravy. It's not a state secret that you add flour to thicken the gravy but the cook did to know this trick. It was like milk poured over the biscuit. Take two: went this morning and asked for scrambled eggs with my pancakes. The eggs came out over hard and the waitress explained that when they get busy the cooks don't have time to scramble the eggs so they break the yolk and serve it up like a yellow and white flip-flop. IF YOURE TOO BUSY TO SCRAMBLE AN EGG DONT LET PEOPLE ORDER IT.

My husband and I went to the Moana Lane location last week and we were very disappointed. The menu did not have Eggs Benedict or Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. The only omelet you could order was the Denver Omelet and the rest you had to order basically a la carte. So I created my own. I asked for Avocado, Mushroom, and Spinach with a side of salsa. It came with those frozen grated potato hash browns and toast that was not really toasted. The butter they gave me did not melt on the "toast". After I started eating, I noticed there was no avocado in the omelet, my favorite ingredient. The salsa was the worst ever. It was like bland stewed tomatoes in water. I couldn't even eat it. The waitress never came back to check on us so we had to flag her down to tell her about the avocado. I noticed the bill sitting on the table and my meal cost $15.99. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! This place is way over priced, the food is mediocre at best, and the service is lacking! The waitress took the avocado off of my check and that brought my meal down to $11.99. Wow! a $4 avocado. They force you to choose the ingredients you want and then charge for each item. And who charges for salsa? Go to Jacks Coffee Shop in Sparks. They make homemade pico salsa and it is free. Will not go back to the Red Hut!

Completely underwhelmed! I read the reviews saw their star rating and was excited to try this place out. Unfortunately, for me, this place was ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! The service was nonexistent! When we first came in they said 5 minutes to be seated while they clean a table. 15 minutes later I asked if they could seat us now since the tables was cleared. The host simply said yeah pick a table. Once seated the sever (who clearly needed a shower) took our order. I ordered my breakfast and asked if it came with toast, she said no and walked away. She didn't bother to stay and inquire if I'd like to add it. WE NEVER SAW HER AGAIN! She didn't deliver the food, never refilled my coffee even though I asked 4 times for a refill. Never asked how our breakfast was and couldn't even be troubled to bring the bill. The general mood of the employees in this restaurant was that of "we don't care". At one point I even witnessed one of the servers eating fruit off the pickup line (granted in Tupperware and clearly hers) but then after popping 4 pieces of watermelon in her mouth with her fingers, reached over and picked up a plate to deliver to some unsuspecting couple. GROSS! This place needs a severe health inspection.

We didn't take much of a gamble coming here as it is one of the few breakfast options in the South Lake Tahoe area, but I can safely say we won't be coming back. From the moment we stepped inside we knew we were in trouble. There was about a ten minute wait for seats among their already very limited seating. Cozy, I thought, but not when half the city's population is eating there and bumping shoulders in the aisles, yelling over the noise or angling their butts over your food as they squeeze by. Our server was either overwhelmed or slow because it took forever to get our order in. After about a half hour wait for our food and being ignored with stomachs grumbling, I was literally standing to tell them to cancel our order so we could leave and grab a donut or something when the food arrived. What my friend and I had waited so long for were some pancakes you could cook at home with instant mix, eggs, bacon and undercooked hash browns that resembled more of a shredded potato puree. The one bright point was the jalapeño bacon: crispy with a kick. There is another Red Hut on the California side. Maybe that one is better.

Breakfast was great. My wife had the hash browns covered in cheese and bacon. Was very good. I had French toast. Service was a little slow is my only complaint.

A hearty breakfast for the summer or winter! The jalapeno bacon... wow! The jalapeno flavor wasn't over-powering, but added a low/slow heat that really enhanced the bacon! The omelet portion size was big, and they were great on my request for an egg-white omelet. I like the old feel of the Nevada location, but happy to see their opening up new locations! The pace of service to get seated wasn't the fastest to start, but who's REALLY in that much of a rush in Tahoe?! Also, after the ball got rolling, everything came out in a reasonable time.

Just had brunch at Red Hut Cafe with the husby. This location is smaller than the one off of Ski Run blvd., but it's closer to home. We got seated right when we walked in since we came in close to closing. I had a chocolate chip pancake with fresh strawberries and a side of sausages. The chocolate chip pancake isn't on their menu, so be sure to ask for it if you are wanting something sweet! My husband got The Usual special: 2 eggs, biscuits and gravy, and some hash browns. My pancake was gigantic! The pancake covered almost the entire plate! It was soft and fluffy, and full of chocolate morsels! The strawberries on top were huge, fresh, and juicy. I was really impressed with their pancake! They were very generous with the chocolate chips and strawberries. The sausages I ordered on the side came with 4 and were really tasty. The portions were huge and I barely finished half of my pancake and one of the sausages. My husband finished the rest for me. The Usual special he ordered is definitely worth the price! 2 eggs, biscuits and gravy, and some hash browns all for $4.99! He really enjoyed it. They cooked his meal to perfection! Just the way he likes it! There were bits of sausages in the biscuits and gravy as well! He also got a coffee and said it was good! Overall, we had a good experience. They have daily specials. Service is fast and friendly. Food is delicious and affordable! Our entire brunch was about $16! Can't beat that! We'll definitely be back!

This is a old fashion Diner with food that matches it. Nothing mind blowing but the food is cooked well and taste is what you expect and want it to be. The service and atmosphere was nice and friendly and its affordable, better than any chain diner you could go to. Slightly hidden, but once you find it you will easily be able to go back.

Originally stopped here because we liked the look of the place. Got inside and it was packed on a Sunday morning but we were seated right away. Food was delish and there are sooo many options. I had the waffle sandwich and my husband had the French toast. Both were scrumptious. Will come back whenever we visit

I love the Red Hut, but not this location. Our experience today was like we were in a completely different restaurant. The waitress was slow, inattentive, rather unfriendly and seemed to not care. I think she was a manager? Hope not! Our order came out a section at a time. Most of the time she couldn't even remember where to take a plate of food. She would go from table to table asking customers if they had ordered this or that. She never came by to refill our coffee or even offer us water. The table next to us was equally frustrated waiting 20 minutes for a waffle. Heading back to the old place on Hwy 50.

It was our last day in Tahoe, before we began our long journey home (10 hour drive). I yelped breakfast nearby and found this place. When you pull up, you may be a little confused because this restaurant is like a portable trailer. It's not a real building with foundation or anything... a little strange, but we were there to get some delicious breakfast. The place is small, maybe 10 or so tables, and the atmosphere is similar to a diner. We were quickly seated, and told the specials. Everything she said sounded delicious, so we took a few minutes to decide before ordering. I ordered "The Usual," which consisted of sausage gravy over biscuits, eggs, and hash browns. Gravy and biscuits isn't what I usually get, so it was a nice change since the biscuits were fluffy and the gravy was savory. I love this mom and pop place! Excellent service, I think every member of the staff came over and checked on us. We all just got breakfast and the portions were plenty for one person. It's a small, local restaurant, but the food was good and my coffee cup was never empty. If I'm ever in Tahoe again, I'll be sure to come back.

Soo delicious! Bf and I both got Don's special and split an extra side of hashbrowns. Portions were generous, but perfect. Pancakes were amazingly fluffy and tasty, and the bacon was crispy. Service was quick, and there's a decent amount of parking in the lot. There might be a wait upon your arrival (luckily, there wasn't for us), but it's worth the wait... as long as you're not outside the door and its 18 degrees out! :) Only wish we found this place out 3 years ago!

An Easy Five Stars! This is the place you think of when you are hungry and in the mood for a home cooked breakfast and friendly service! It doesn't disappoint. The original location is on the California side, but this one is tucked away not far up the Kingsbury Grade. Probably a hit with the locals, and lesser known by the ski crowd. Omelettes are generous and fluffy. I had the Cheese and Sausage, and crispy hash browns, too! I think another diner nearby had "built their own omelette" because it was huge! The waffles are fantastic! Can't wait to come back!

We found this place on Yelp and we went to have breakfast at about noon. The food was yummy. I had the scrambled eggs, hash browns, and toast. I definitely enjoyed the food and the portions were large. My friend had the jalapeño bacon and he loved the taste of it. The atmosphere is really cool because there are different pictures of Tahoe and the place is comfy. I felt like I got an awesome diner experience. If I'm in the area again, I will definitely stop by to eat there.

It was not exactly the best idea to grab such a hardy breakfast before a long hike... but if I had to choose again, I'd probably go to Red Hut anyway! I had a glass of OJ and the Biscuits with Gravy combo which came with house hash-browns and 2 eggs cooked your way (I ordered them over-easy). OMG the biscuits by themselves were already delicious, but to smother them in some homemade gravy with bits of sausage was something else! The hash-browns were also great, nice crunchy outside and soft (but not too soft or oily) inside. It was such a simple yet amazingly satisfying breakfast and only $6! What a steal. There was a little bit of a wait when we got there around 11am, but nothing too terrible.

1st time here at the Red Hut Cafe. The staff was beyond friendly and welcoming. 5stars for that. The service was extremely fast. It took no time for our food to come out and they were very busy. Impressive. We ordered just the usual breakfast food (pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns) and the food was fine. Nothing the get excited about but not bad at all. They get four stars bcuz of their friendly staff and quick service.

I am a local living near Stateline and was hoping to make Red Hut my go to breakfast place. Unfortunately, this is the second time I have been unimpressed with the level of customer service and quality of the food. The hostess offered us a nice window table, but as we were on our way to it she asked if it was okay to sit at the counter. This was presumably because there was a 4 top that came in AFTER us. We then received no menus and then waited nearly 10 minutes before our order was taken. The couple sitting next to us was friends with the server and ordered and ate long before our food was even ready!!! About 45 minutes later our food came out in piece meal. Part of it was cold or burnt. But the food was less of an issue than the Horrible customer service. Our server NEVER checked on us once and then when I politely asked for water, she said yes. And then brought us the bill sans the water?! I have experience as a server, so I am well aware of what at it takes to attend to numerous customers at once. However I never left my customers feeling like they were just a table to turn and how can you not acknowledge the obvious time we waited for our food. We will be sharing our business with other local restaurants from here on.

Red Hut was recommended to me by my uncle when I was staying in Lake Tahoe. I wasn't sure what I was going to think about the place when I first arrived. It is a tiny, older building. I was immediately impressed with the wait staff. We were greeted right away. Our waiter was very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious. You definitely get your money's worth.

Awesome place for a late morning breakfast! It's suuuuper tiny inside and there can be a bit of wait, but it's all worth it. They serve breakfast and lunch until about 2 or 3pm and the food is pretty good. I sampled the Don combo which was pancakes, eggs and bacon. The pancakes were huge, but delicious. Service was great and the staff is really nice. It's really small inside, so if you're a group over 5 or 6 people, you may want to try closer to noon to have a better shot at a table. We lucked out with the weather and sat on the back patio while we waited for a table. Great view of the lake and plenty of parking. Can't wait to travel here again.

cold and carless, we walked from harvey's to grab some breakfast. I had the waffle sandwich, with a small helping of my bf's chile omelet. the bacon is nice and thick, and my waffle was crispy and buttery. everything was greasy spoon good, and the servers were cool. the joint is pretty small so there's a little waiting involved, but the food is worth it. i splurged and bought a mug to remember them by.

This is a venerable place known to all who claim to know SLT. And it lives up to its reputation! Very good portions with the hashbrowns to die for! They were crispy without being greasy - how do they do that?!! anyways - love 'em. Only thing was the coffee was just OK and they don't put out real cream/half and half. They have some watered down white thing in the creamer. but i got smart and asked if they had real half and half - and they did!! yaay. ok, not the fat-free sort of request, but hey, it's breakfast!

Given all the great reviews we were looking forward to having a great breakfast here. Maybe we it's an off day for the staff because there's no way I can give it a better rating. The hash browns were way overcooked (almost burnt) and the sausage patties were very burnt. My omelet was flat and not fluffy. Our waitress brought my food and the asked my hubby how he wanted his eggs. So he ended up getting his food several minutes after I got him. I think that's why his sausage patties were burnt. Once she served our food she never came back to see how we were doing or if we needed anything.

Don't expect any more than the bare minimum service. Once they take your order and drop it off you won't get any one checking back to see how your meal is. And don't expect a water or coffee refill. They should always check back after 2 minutes. That's the industry standard. Unfortunately this is right down the road from us so we have given it many opportunities, & they have failed a handfull of times. I don't think we will go back to this location. The original red hut is the only place that has the best customer service of the Red Huts.

Before hitting the slopes, I needed a place to fuel up for a full day (I was planning on skipping lunch). Boy, does this place fit the bill. Two words: bacon waffle. What more needs to be said? I'll go ahead and say something anyway... This place is known for their waffles and they do not disappoint. I also love a good omelet and here they are made with four (!) eggs. They open early (6 AM) and close after lunch (2 PM) so plan accordingly.

It's an upscale greasy spoon. Big portions, warm and yummy food. Certainly not a health food stop, but delicious nonetheless. Interior is cute. Servers are a little loopy and distracted in the snow-bunny style found so much up here in the winter. Helpful though if you ask specific questions.. such as "Do you have soy milk for my coffee?" That works way better than, "Do you have any creamer without dairy?" Still, big place, decently clean, large and bold decor, and yummy food. Not a mom and pop, but a reliably eggs and pancakes kind of breakfast.

Cute place. Horrible parking lot. We stopped in for breakfast before our drive back to the Bay Area. I ordered the waffle sandwich. I was surprised at how thin the waffle was but it was sure tasty! My 10 year old ordered hash browns covered in cheese, sour cream and bacon. It was like a deconstructed baked potato! Delicious! The hubby opted for just pancakes and my 12 year old daughter order the bacon waffle. Unfortunately, her bacon waffle came with a hair baked in. GROSS! She found it right before she took a bite. You'd think it would have spoiled her appetite but she told our server, who quickly had another one made up and took it off our bill. It must have been a good waffle because my daughter finished off the newly made one in no time flat. Aside from the hair in the waffle, our breakfast there was pretty good.

I saw all the decent reviews here and had to come check it out. It was a pretty long wait - around 20 minutes to get a table, 10 minutes to order, and another 30 minutes to get our food. I wasn't expecting it to be that long. PROs The Rosti is AWESOME. It's definitely something to get. They are the hash browns that come with cheese, ham or bacon, sour cream, and green onions. It's not on the menu but is usually on their special board. I also had the Donny's which is two pancakes, two eggs, and three strips of bacon. The pancakes were HUGE and tasty. Love it! They are well priced. For 4 people, we had 5 dishes for about $28. Not too bad for a diner. CONs The bacon was overcooked. It was charred so bad it pretty much fell apart at touch. The food is fairly greasy. I know it's breakfast food, but it's a little bit too greasy for my taste. For example, the hash browns could soak in a couple napkins full of oil. The wait was waaaaay too long. It's good for their business, but not good for the consumer. It may take you an hour to get the food.

The food here is yummy and a great way to start a day out and about. My wife and I stopped here on our way out to snow shoe one day and another day on our way up the mountain. The portions are huge, we split the Mountain Man omelette and were both stuffed. Another day she got a waffle and I the eggs with biscuits and gravy special. Both were good and i would eat there again. BUT and this is my problem with most small diner joints...YOUR COFFEE SUCKS!!!! Why would a small diner joint put effort into making good food and then have a big let down on the coffee. Seriously now the coffee tasted like stale Folgers. Step your coffee game up.

Yeah this place is good! Going back for the Biscuits and Gray. If you like feel good food there will be something you will find that is wonderful! Has the look and feel of a 50's chain diner, but the kind of food Mom would make.

The Red Hut definitely has some serious breakfast. David O is right, you don't come here for some fancy benediction, you come here for something cheesy and covered in gravy. The Usual is what breakfast is all about. 2 eggs, hash browns and 2 biscuits covered in thick gravy with pieces of sausage in it, YUM and all for only $4.99! I had breakfast at The Hut twice this weekend and It was great both times. It's quaint, clean, the employees are friendly and the food is delicious.

A tale of two days, here, during my recent Tahoe visit. Day 1: Got seated in a reasonable amount of time despite it being busy, good service, good breakfast served in a timely manner. Three, maybe 3 1/2 stars. Decided to come back and give it another try. Day 2: A complete s---storm, as if we had entered some bizarro-world version of the previous day. Busy, like it was the previous day, with people waiting out on the porch for an open table. Waited and waited and waited. Started to realize people who had arrived after us we being seated before us. Went into the restaurant and there were five empty four-seat tables, and several empty counter seats. Maybe they have some sort of policy about needing three or more people at a four-seat table, but we were a party of two and there were no big parties waiting around or anything. Guess they'd rather save a bunch of empty tables for "if* hypothetical big groups eventually come around rather than take business from actual people sitting around waiting! Of course, literally everyone working appeared to be a teenager -- perhaps labor laws are more lax in Nevada than California -- so I can see why they might get flustered during busy times, enough apparently that they can't even bother telling the parties of two waiting outside there was counter space available. Anyway, we left. Would give zero stars for day two if I could.

Four words: Blueberry strudel french toast. This is my favorite Red Hut, by far. I like that it's smaller and older than the newer restaurants, so it's more intimate and old fashioned. The vintage pictures on the walls give it a nostalgic feel. The staff seem to genuinely get along, and it makes for pleasant dining. This is the place to fuel up on waffles, pancakes or a traditional egg breakfast. The blueberry strudel french toast is out of this world. Get here early to avoid the crowds - or make it brunch after the morning rush.

Awesome breakfast!!! There's a reason why the Red Hut has such a long history - great food & great vibe. We spent 5 days in Tahoe and went to the Red Hut Cafe twice.....the only two times we ate out for breakfast. There was a variety of breakfast items ordered.....ham & swiss omelette, sausage and jack omelette, french toast, biscuits, etc....you get the point. Everything was tasty and abundant. Waitresses are on point with the coffee refills. They never let my cup get more than half empty!

Synonymous. When I go out for a hamburger I must order the french fries. Going to a cafe alone dictates bringing a book and my iPod. A glass of Riesling pairs quite well with a platter of fresh shucked oysters. When a bunch of guys go boarding in Tahoe you go to The Red Hut Cafe to stock up on a large hearty breakfast that keeps one energized for a good half of the day. In saying, we did not make it up to Tahoe until quite late but the rest of the party was quite hungry so we zipped over to the cafe at around 1:00 pm. Good thing, because they were slated to close at 2. A feel-good interior of any Americana coffee shop, paying tribute with bright red vinyl chairs and laminate tables balancing on hollow steel rod legs. The space is long and narrow but makes for a nice warm environment. The kitchen opens up to the counter where a lone customer sat, silent but happy with his order of pancakes hot off the griddle. The menu echoes the sentiments of such an era with dishes you'll find in any diner: omelettes, pancakes, waffles, burgers and sandwiches. Add in the friendliness of the wait persons and you've got yourself the perfect cozy kitchen nook away from home. I ordered the Denver Omelet. This came taking up 1/2 of my plate, a protein studded 4-egg concoction with chopped onions, fresh green peppers and chopped pieces of ham. The other 1/2 of the plate replied with a heaping portion of hash browns. Crunchy bits of grated potato on the outside, steaming hot on the inside. Two pieces of wheat toast and a cup of coffee rounded off my order. $9.95. The other popular item on the menu was the "special", so noted because it came loaded with two eggs, any style, a side of hash browns and two biscuits smothered in a savory sausage gravy sauce. This plate was aptly given the recession buster price of $4.95. Another plate rounded with food. A great deal and several in our party order this, each and every time. Consistently. As we got up from our table, the waitress called out to us: "Have a wonderful rest of your day out there." After such a good meal there was no doubt that it had already started as thus here.

Ate at this RH on Kingsbury grade. They now have four restaurants-3 in Tahoe and one in Carson City, NV Service was attentive, but was lacking in follow-up on refilling liquids and checking back to see how the food was. This place keeps the same ambiance as the original. Small and quaint. On a busy weekend you'll be waiting a long time to get a seat. I am on a search for the perfect pancake. The one I had was very close. It was big, fluffy and not chewy. I also tried the Denver omelet. It was bland. It had the proper elements but something in the flavor section was missing. Overall a basic breakfast but nothing special. Still searching for a great all around experience in the area of breakfast dining.

Very tight space unless you come with enough people to fill a booth, which aren't very spacious considering all the bottles of sauces and jellies you probably won't be using. I ordered a bacon and cheese omelet, it came with hash browns and toast. Got the hash browns, where the F*** is my toast? Waiter never returned to check up on us so I never got it. I slice into my bacon, egg, and cheese omelet to find my bacon strips swimming in egg yolk. After spitting half the meal out into my napkin I decided I had enough. I was contemplating whether I should leave without paying considering how disgusted I felt but I did the right thing, then left without tipping. This was my first and last worst experience at this location.

Red Hut is definitely the best place for breakfast and brunch on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. I would give it a 5 except I'm really hoping there is room for somebody to come in and offer some better food in the Tahoe basin.

Nothing like the red slut - as my hubby calls it. This place is a must stop for our family and friends every time we are in South Shore. We usually stay on Kingsbury Grade so its convenient and it just beckons you from the road. Greasy goodness...come in! Packed during the ski season, less packed in the summer months. But its a small place and you may have to wait. Cash ONLY! And the counter/tables are sit where you like if there is a choice when you get there. Everyone that works there except the dishwasher it female and that alone rocks in my book. You can get breakfast or lunch - anything off the menu - any time of day. And this is my favorite reason for loving this place. I am NOT a huge breakfast fan so a grilled cheese at 9am - oh yeah that will cure my headache from last night. Hubby loves the insane omeletes. When I do get breakfast it is the biscuits and gravy or the "Usual". CHeck out the chalkboard for what the usual is and specials. Lunch foods are my main event. Grilled cheese, avocado and tomato on sourdough with cheddar and fries - sold. And the burgers are excellent. Fresh lettuce/tomato and a good bun. I get it without the sauce and just add ketchup/mustard. If you like in-out , you will like this burger, has that fresh taste only bigger and honestly way better. You will be stuffed and have room left in your wallet to buy some of the fun RED HUT souveniers, hats, tshirts, mugs etc. Or you can take that last roll of nickles back to the casino. Cheers.

We just ate here, will try someplace else next time. Pros: cute place, service fairly quick, nice waitresses, good omlette and hash browns, and a really yummy pile of fresh berries on the waffle. Cons: average to mediocre coffee, tough waffle from a mix, burned toast. I'd be happy if they bought better coffee and lightened up the waffle with some egg whites and put some butter in the waffle batter so it tasted good.

Great place to eat if you can stand the wait. Place is small but if you want more room go to the new one in California

Came in for lunch on a Monday and so there was no wait. I had the "waffle sandwich" with scrambled eggs and sausage since the signs on the wall indicated that it served good hotcakes and waffles. I was a bit disappointed when i finally did get my waffles because there really wasn't anything special about it. I also had a very small portion of scrambled eggs. The boyfriend ordered the BLT which he really liked. The fries with it came out great too. So all in all, good fries and sandwich, but average breakfast items.

We just got back from another family trip to South Lake Tahoe. We spent our three mornings at the Red Hut Cafe having breakfast. The food was good as usual and more than a person should eat. The thing that distressed me was that service seemed to have gotten less and less attentive. I don't expect the fawning attention thing but I do expect a few little things. Service was good on Monday. Tuesday, there was a county or state health or restaurant inspector getting underfoot so we understood that things would slow down as he had to talk to every single person working there. Still, considering that it was the between breakfast and lunch lull, it took over a half hour to get our fairly basic breakfasts and you could even see the hostess was looking a little nervous about how we were patiently waiting. Our toasts arrived after that and 10 minutes later, our omelettes and plate of bacon for our preschooler. Today was the worst. The place was a little busy at 930a when we arrived. We were seated immediately and got our ojs quickly. We ordered waffles, an omelette and a plate of bacon. Our food arrived within about 15 minutes but my Mom's sourdough toast didn't. Finally, after about 10 minutes, I had to ask where the toast was to the hostess. After another ten minutes, I walked over and basically commandeered some toast they had up since our waitress never came back to our table to see how we were or deliver our food. (She was chatting amicably with the locals on pet adoption for about 15 minutes at one point) Finally, our son was antsy so my husband took him outside while my Mom and I waited for the check. It took no less than 20 minutes for us to get it. We had to flag down the waitress who had assumed we had been given it by her (she managed to forget she never came back to our table after our orders) and it took her another three or four minutes to find our ticket since it had been stuck under something. I get that the Red Hut is a locals place. People are familiar with everyone there. But it was a little annoying that it seemed that since we were tourists, that somehow, we weren't going to get any notice. At least, that is how it felt. We'll be trying the Red Hut on the Cali side next time we come up for a visit.

I was just at Tahoe for 5 days and ate here 4 mornings. I was just really into the pancakes. Had them with strawberry, bananas, plain... Had the waffles too.

My first review! Before we left for Tahoe I checked Yelp for the best places to eat. Red Hut received great reviews and I love breakfast food, so we figured let's try it! The first trip was during the week. The wait wasn't bad, but it was still a full house. The food was great and the staff was super nice. The only bad thing was the tiny cups of water, but hey, that's no big deal. We stopped this morning on our way out and it looked crowded but we figured it was Saturday so every place was going to have a wait. Our table was ready an hour later. It was still worth it even after listening to our two kids whining about the wait the whole time. That says ALOT for Red Hut. It's definitely worth the wait. We'll be back.

This place is just what the doctor ordered for an old school, down home, reasonably priced breakfast and/or lunch. We ate their twice in as many days on our recent trip to Tahoe. It is worth the wait and even though you may feel a little tight and cramped in this tiny diner, you won't be disappointed with the quality of the food. Our waitress was a little slow on the uptake, but that's the only complaint I can muster about an otherwise perfect place to start your day of exploring, skiing, gambling or whatever. It seems like this is also a favorite of locals, which says a lot. I particularly like that it is close to the major hotels, which is where we were staying. You don't have to feel trapped in your hotel where you will pay $10 for a rubber egg swimming in grease. Go the few blocks to Red Hut and have a real breakfast that will start you off right for the rest of the day. TIP: Try their blueberry pancakes ..... EXCELLENT!!!

Delicious food. I LOVED the biscuits and gravy, as well as the egg white omelet with spinach. Coffee is decent. Terrific service. More than anything else, it just feels like comfort food on cold Tahoe days after hard snowboarding that bruises up your body. I just loved this place!

Great breakfast here! I had the pancakes with fresh strawberries. It has a cozy, very cute atmosphere. The servers were friendly and nice, but they didn't bring any coffee refills. :(

Food was ok. It tastes better than IHOP and crappy chains like that but I wasn't impress, but I am going to give the place another shot, I ordered the eggs, sausage and waffle, next time i will try the omlets. What turned me off to this place was their poor waiter service, they didn't offer to refill our water we had to chase after the buser

My absolute favorite place on earth. I love the atmosphere and the old pictures of the area on the walls. The food is to die for. The have fantastic burgers and breakfast, but my favorite is the grilled cheese sandwiches. They come any way you want. I always get mine with American cheese and avocado. I am salivating just writing about it.

Yum! This breakfast place just past the casinos was great! I got a banana and walnut waffle, and my sister and her hubbie split a western omelet. I don't what brand it was, but the swiss cheese in the omelet was impressive. Also, my waffle was artfully presented with 5 whip cream rosettes. Plus, you can get a half order of biscuits and gravy for when you just want a little bit but not a whole meal.

went to South Lake Tahoe for the weekend and passed through this diner type cafe for brunch. The atmosphere is casual and family friendly. Portions were big and food is good, and price is quite inexpensive for Bay Area standard, where I came from. would go there again for breakfast or lunch the next time I go up to Tahoe.

Red Hut serves a passable breakfast. There are a number of better places to eat breakfast on the south shore. Choose Red Hut if the line is short. Small tables - max 6 in a party Service was very good.

Went here over the 4th of July weekend. The food was so-so, and our service so-so. After reading the wonderful Yelp reviews, I expected a lot more. The waffle wasn't what I expected. It was flat and crunchy? Had a nice flavor (got the coconut one) but didn't get much for the price. I looked over at the other tables- and saw people with plates of fluffy pancakes and yummy looking french toast. I'm willing to give this place another try. Next time I'll try something different.

We ordered the waffle. It was way over priced at $6.99...very thin and boring. Should have ordered the full omelet breakfast for $1.00 more. Left hungry.

We made the quick stop here for breakfast before heading out for a day around the Lake. We were quickly seated and decided to share the waffle, egg, and bacon dish, with a side of hash browns and a fruit cup. The waffle was freshly made and was delicious with butter and syrup on it. The egg and bacon were both well cooked and dry, not the way we like them, moist and greasy. The hash browns were both crunchy and soft, yum! And the fruit cup had a nice selection, oranges, honeydew, strawberries, cantaloupe, grapes, and even pineapple. Good value, good food, nice spot for breakfast. We'll be back!

ate brefas (that's how all the kids are saying it these days, right?) at 8am, no line, no rushed feeling, excellent service. ordered one waffle and it was so spectacular, and the perfect amount of food. coffee was refilled a number of times which i appreciated. there was a sign out front that read "complimentary meal if you were personally affected by the fire." that made me like the place even more.
