2.5 stars. Setting: Ate here on a Sunday night with 11 members of my family, to celebrate the many long years of my grandparents being together. Earlier in the evening when I called for directions, it took the reservation desk lady a good ten minutes of fumbling to give me any clue as to how to find the restaurant ("Are there any land-markers to let me know that I am approaching the restaurant?" "No, well, there's a low black fence." etc). That evening we had to drive around for a while, but we did manage to find it. Service: The quality of service was absolutely inappropriate considering how much money we spent at this restaurant. We entered the restaurant about 5 minutes after our reservation time (after driving around lost looking for the black fence) and were told our table wasn't set. After five minutes we walked to our table to find that it was set up in a long row, despite the numerous conversations my family had with the restaurant, when making the reservation, that the table was going to be in a square shape. OK, nothing major, but an annoyance to my grandparents and parents. We sit back down in the waiting area, and are seated. We are placed close to the door of the restaurant, with a great view of the parking lot: we had none of the famed views of the water. I found this odd considering how reservations had been made weeks in advance, and for a very special occasion. Our server was very nice and charming, for the very little we saw of him. Despite that we were there for a special occasion (which our server never once asked us about), despite the fact that we were a party of 11, 9 of whom were drinking, we had to pour the bottles of wine ourselves for most of the evening. Water glasses were filled after sitting empty for a good minimum of 5 minutes, and I practically had to wave and grab him to order my drink (Hendrick's martini, which was well made.) Our dishes were cleared as soon as we were done eating, and a few of us had to point out that no, we were still eating didn't want our plates cleared. Food: The best thing I ate there was the raw oysters. I wish I had ordered 3 dozen of them and had only that for dinner. We also ordered the stuffed mushrooms, fried asparagus, and calamari for appetizers. Skip the calamari. For dinner I had the seafood combo, which was OK. The fish (salmon) had no sauce and no flavor, the grilled shrimp were tough and overcooked, the crab cake was delicious, and the rice was pretty bland. I tried bites of the prime rib and coconut shrimp- which were also OK. The portions were small and prices high. Overall, for a party of 11, with reservations made well in advance, the service was unacceptable, the food overpriced and not amazing. I absolutely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!

My husband and I have come here for every anniversary. Most recently, our five year. We're never dissapointed! We reserve table 18 or 1...both are private and have a great view. I prefer 18. We always order the calamari to start, it's amazing. The prime rib is mouth watering. The crab and lobster are cooked to perfection. The lobster bisque is delicious. For sides, the creamed spinach and sizzling mushrooms are my favorite. The service has always been great also. Sometimes it almost feels over done...but when it comes to service, there is no such thing.

Had an early dinner at the Chart House just on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe. Realy enjoyed all aspects. Had made reservations for the special anniversary occasion. When we arrived, we were greeted immediately. All the staff was very friendly. We sat in the front row tables with the great view of Lake Tahoe. Our server was Sean and he was very courteous and professional. He provided outstanding but unobtrusive service. We chose the specials of the braised beef and the almond crusted halibut. For starters we had the crabmeat filled mushrooms and the walnut pear salad. Scrumptious dishes like these really set the Chart House apart. Both meals were very tasty, and cooked to perfection. Nice wine selection and they provided a free dessert for the occasion which was their mud pie. For the other dessert, we ordered the special of the chocolate lava cake. Yummy. A very nice place for lunch or dinner in the Lake Tahoe area.

The food is a bit pricy, but well worth it, in my opinion! I always order the prime rib, and I am never disappointed. The best part of the meal, of course, would be dessert! We always make sure to order a chocolate lava cake to finish off our delicious meals. The only problem is that the cakes take at least 30 minutes to bake, so make sure that you order them at the beginning of the meal! I have been to Chart House several times, and every time I have had excellent servers and a pleasant meal. We have always made reservations as a big party, and when we arrived we have always been seated immediately. The view is amazing too, so we always try to plan our dinners around sunsets!

We had a fantastic dinner there last night. To start, I shared the crab, avocado, mango stack. It was large enough for two and just delicious! I also shared the caesar salad. It was overdressed and a bit wilted. For dinner I had the seafood grill sampler with salmon, shrimp scampi, and a crab cake. It was fantastic! The entire table of ten split 2 lava cakes. It is rich and heavenly. The portions are large, so we needed doggie bags. With the fantastic view and great service, it was a wonderful dining experience. We will be back!

I can hardly believe this is the same place everyone else has dined at. We had such a horrible experience Saturday evening we laughed about it the next day. The food was mediocre...tough new York steak, bland overcooked shrimp and fish and a really arrogant waitress. We were in a formica booth ala Denny's that was too tall for me (I sat on my purse to eat after seriously asking for some sort of booster or phone book) and too small for one of our guests. Across from us were white linen table cloth tables with light. We didn't have either and had to use our phones to read the menu (flashlight ad on iphone) and for one of us to eat!! We asked to move to a table and were told they were reserved for a later group(our reservation apparently didn't count) and they sat empty the entire time we were there. We spent over $50.00 per person for this great experience. Better places in Tahoe than this expensive tourist trap...if you want the view go for a drink and appetizer or lobster bisque...that was pretty good. The lobster bisque and prime rib convinced me this was 2 star instead of 1!

Ate here last night with my husband and son, and we had a pretty good time. Really, this is a nice place, and the service was fine. I recommend if you are interested in eating here you check to see when sunset is and book a table for that time of day. Why I can't give it more stars...well...our son's hamburger had a hair in it. OK, I'm not squeamish, I didn't say anything to the staff (I don't want to be a pill). He refused to eat after that, and sat quietly looking disturbed the rest of the meal. He'd just bitten into his first hair, so I can't say I blame him. Our meals were fine, however. We had the filet and lobster plates, both good. For dessert I had the chocolate lava cake which really good. Our server was attentive. Be forewarned that you might have to wait a while after your reservation time to be seated, which for us was pretty inconvenient. We ate here the night before we got married several years ago, during the sunset, and it was wonderful. We had a party of 30 people, and everyone had a great time.

Chart House is hard to find, especially if you use Garmin GPS, which points to a location half a mile before the actual one. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is romantic, and the service is very good. Grilled salmon and mashed potatoes were cooked exactly as I expected, famous choclate Lava Cake was nice, and night view was charming (unless you expect to see Lake Tahoe at night - it does not have any lights, so you can just guess where it is). Parking lot is big enough, as well as the restorant itself. Chart House is very good choice for those who like seafood, especially grilled; small groups are OK - from two to six people can seat comfortable with a good view. Larger groups are harder to satisfy because of the shape of the building, which you easily can read from other reviews. Prices are reasonably higher than average, one meal and desert for one plus tips were about 50 USD.

Went here for the first time tonight based on awesome reviews. Food was ok, service was good. Lobster was good but steak (filet) was sort of plain. Didnt feel food plus drinks was worth $175 for 2 people though!

My husband and I went here for dinner, it was excellent! My husband had the Filet Mignon & Shrimp, his filet was cooked to perfection! The salad bar is the best I have ever had with a lot of choices. The meal was timed good and the staff was friendly, the view gorgeous. We had the Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert, it was very good! We will definitely return here, when we visit Lake Tahoe.

It was dark when we arrived so I can't comment on the view at all. I did see a couple of trees, that's about it. We made a reservation and were seated within minutes. The service was professional and on the right side of the line between bubbly and manic. INTERESTING NOTE: Wearing dark pants or skirt? You will get a black napkin. At first my wife thought she was Marked For Death but it's just something they do. Food was OK, nothing out of this world and nothing inedible. The shrimp cocktail came with shrimps the size of an infant's arm. Tangy home made sauce with lots of different kinds of leafy items in there. Caesar salad was good. They're kinda light on the free bread. My prime rib was just OK. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, perfectly ordinary. I ordered the sissy cut and it was plenty for me. Baked potato done perfectly. The wife says her salmon was perfect. The cheesecake was almost perfect- dry to the point of crumbling, just like a cheesecake is supposed to be if you know anything about cheese cake and if you don't agree with me well, I guess we both know you don't know anything about cheesecake. Or at least how I like *my* cheesecake. Noise level was moderate, easy to have a conversation. I'm not entirely crazy about the à la carte ordering. The baked potato came with the meal and I wanted a vegetable so I ordered the broccoli with red peppers which came in a big side dish that was more than one person could, or should, eat, especially in an enclosed car going back to Carson. It was OK, but I found no compelling reason to ever consider returning. That's not necessarily bad, it's just that for the price charged you should walk away with something more than a bill.

Excellent meal. The lobster bisque was quite tasty. Steaks were under cooked and the guy hovering over the front desk was an ass to other staff so I minused a star for that. Show them your AAA card and get 10% off! We had 2 sodas, 1/2 doz oysters, east/west ahi tuna, clam chowder, lobster bisque, large prime rib, baked potato, and teriyaki steak. The total after our AAA discount was $109 ( thanks AAA!) We didn't have reservations but the wait was only 10 mins. The restaurant is kinda chilly so bring a sweater or wear long sleeves. We will definitely return

Chart House fan. Been to probably a dozen other locations. This location has same great view, same great food, same high prices, but TERRIBLE service. Hostesses were clueless and air headed. Server was trying to be fun but came off as way too familiar and down right insulting. Seems like they're a bit too young to be there--should be working at a college hangout. I expect more experienced and excellent service for that price. Sent an email to customer service giving specifics. Got no response whatsoever, much less an apology or anyone lookiing into the sub standard individuals. BUT on the great side, food is as always terrific. Ceasar salad to start. Salad bar rocks, but don't fill up before the meat comes! We also got prime rib of course. That's why the place is famous. And fresh fish way up in the mountains. The food was definitely worth the money. Just wish the service was up to par.

I have gone to several Chart Houses and always enjoyed the experience. But I would never go to this Chart House again. Why is there no zero star rating? The experience started off iffy when we arrived early to get a few a drinks. Though the bar was busy we were surprised that for over 20 minutes, no one checked on us to see what we needed. When we finally went to the bar to order for ourselves, our order was poorly prepared (half filled Martini glasses?) and missing items. Once we were seated for dinner the service didn't improve. We again waited an exorbitant amount of time for service. Since we had waited for over 25 minuted for a waiter, we had already chosen our entire meal, thinking we'd help the struggling wait staff. Our appetizer never came. Our waitress blamed it on the fact that the printer in the kitchen had broken. Odd... considering other tables had appetizers and our table's entrees were all ready. Our entrees, though the flavor was good, were luke warm at best. Our mashed potatoes were down right cold. So our dinner was slow, our food was cold, and the staff lied to us about their own screw ups, but the most annoying part of the night came when as we were leaving. We had asked our waitress to call us a cab. On the way out we checked with the hostess to make sure the cab had in fact been called. The hostess was short with us and gave us a ton of aditude. But what can you expect from a high school kid who had to interrupt her conversation with her friend still dressed in the day's beach wear. Considering nothing about the meal had gone right, it didn't seem confirmation of the request was out of the question. Bottom line, this place is trashy with bad service. But hey if you want to spend $225 for a meal (for three with one CHEAP bottle of wine) and get attitude from an 18 year old hostess, it's perfect for you.

Dined here for our 10th anniversary and were not disappointed. We made last minute reservations and upon arrival of our table were menus printed with "Happy 10th Anniversary". The waiter was polite and service wonderful! The food is excellent, everything from the chowder to the crab stuffed tilapia!

Awww... The view. This is what makes this steak house. Get a reservation before the sun goes down and watch the sun set over the lake. The food... Eh. Have had better- not much to write about- the steak was "ok"- but not fantastic. The plates were dressed simply with not much in terms of presentation or sides. The salad buffet was "ok", but ridiculously expensive (They do have caviar though). The wine list was "ok" but not that comprehensive. The shrimp was "ok" but not great. This is a shame, because a steak house should not rely merely on its view of a lake to get by. It is up Kingsbury grade, so if you don't like steep drives you might want to pop a Xanax before you come. Oh, and even if you make a reservation at the Chart House, still plan on waiting to be seated (We waited 20 minutes).

I had a great experience here! For a group of 20 people, I was impressed by how smoothly dinner went. Our drinks were always filled and our dinner was savory and delicious! I would definitely go back again. One negative aspect is that they do not have a baby/toddler changing table in the restroom.

celebrated my wife's birthday here with some friends. we've both dined at these places in other locations in california, but the last time for me was bout 10 years ago when i would sneak some meals from the chart house in sausalito when i would work as a valet there. i had the surf n turf, but with short ribs instead of steak, and seared scallops, with mash potatoes. the wife had clam chowder, creamed spinach. our friends had prime rib and salmon with tempura'd veggies. all of us were well satisfied. my dish was crazy good. the short ribs were super soft, tender, and very delicious. the scallops were awesome! the sauce they had were infused with ginger and had an asian twist to it - a little spicy, gingery, and a little citrus. the salmon was a little overcooked for my liking, but thats me. the rest said that it was great, so i may just be biased. the prime rib was tender and rich... very very good flavor. service was impeccable and very understanding when we returned one of their signature cocktails for tasting like Robitussin! we'd come back in a second!

Made reservations for 7:45pm and showed up right about that time. Still had to wait 20 minutes for a table. I guess that wasn't too bad, because those without reservations had to wait well over an hour. It was disappointing to see the clientele that were there. The restaurant has a nice view and appears that it would be more upscale and classy, but lots of people were wearing shorts and flip flops, like they came from the beach. At least wear a nice pair of jeans, if you want to be casual. The food was excellent though. But, the wife and I ordered a lot more than we should have.

View of Lake Tahoe to die for, reasonable prices on the wine list and taste tantalizing seafood. We had the salad bar (with caviar), crab, avocado and mango stack appetizer, king crab and diver scollops for entrees. Try as we might, we could not face the desert menu - maybe next time. Our waiter, Mark was extremely attentive and made us feel welcome even though we had just come in from the Heavenly slopes after a day of skiing.

Eh. Had a very mediocre steak at the Chart House last weekend. I knew it was a fish specialist but their sign said fish, steak, prime rib, so I ordered what sounded best. Mistake as the steak was cooked the right temperature but the New York Strip lacked any real flavor. We began with an artichoke, which was served half cooked. We sent it back. It was their last artichoke of the night (I couldn't believe they ran out of artichokes) so they cooked it some more and it came out right. One of my friends ordered the yellowfin tuna and they brought him a different menu item that featured tuna - he was hungry so didn't fuss. The service is odd. We had to wait a bit for our table, despite a reservation. At the bar and then at the table the waiter said the same cheesy line, "Can I have the chef prepare you some appetizers?" lol. Yes, please. Have him whip up some delicacies just for us. It sounds so pretentious for a restaurant that has a salad bar.... Not inexpensive either so no return visit for me. As this was a winter dinner meal, we did not see the view as it was dark out.

Since when does paying $25 - $30 for a dinner entree mean you have to pay EXTRA for vegetables? At the Chart House apparently. I've been here a number of times for dinner, and over the years the hard upsell from the servers has become a bit more blatant. I was able to overlook that, as the food was decent and the seafood dishes were different. I would just grit my teeth at the chocolate cake/calamari upsell pitch. The BF took me there last night for my birthday and it was a real disappointment. The by the glass wines are just ok compared to other restaurants (including less $$ ones), and the fact that none of our party of 4 saw any vegetables on our dinner plates (which included a filet mignon, two shrimp dishes and a seared opah plate) was just stupid. I know it's tough out there economically but how much would it add to overhead to throw a bit of broccoli on a plate?

Our neighbor lived in South Lake Tahoe for a few years and he recommended us to go there. It's on top of the hill and you can overlook Lake Tahoe and the Mountains. Go there for dinner and try to get a window seat at sunset. It's gorgeous! I think the food was a little bit too expensive. You pay for the view. But it was delicious! And the service was great! They had a salad with a bacon dressing! OMG I'd love to have that recipe:) It was the best dressing ever!

Was recommended this restaurant from our concierge. Went there for our anniversary and the atmosphere was very romantic. We had to take two young kids and the place was also family friendly with a good kid's menu. The food was well worth it and was not cold like others stated. The service was also great and we were checked on by our waiter and host several times during dinner.

I love this restaurant! The calamari is my all-time favorite (and believe me.. my husband and I order calamari wherever we go!). I also order their salad bar (I knowm it sounds cheap but its not) and there is an extensive bar with so many ingredients (even caviar!) The view is wonderful, especially at sunset and we always ask to sit near a window. The customer service is good, nothing to write home about, but they do their job and the food is what makes this place one of our favorites. Suggestion... Order the molten chocolate cake when you order your dinner because it takes a while to cook, but when it comes at the end of the meal, it is pure luxury! And I'm not even a chocolate person! :)

Made a reservation but had to wait for a table. When seated they put us in the bar. Requested a new table and were seated right outside the kitchen. It was very noisy. Two people ordered the daily fish after the waiter described it as being topped with avocado and crab pico de gallo. When the bill came it was an additional $7.99 that had not been mentioned. Other than that the waiter was great. Won't be rushing back anytime soon. A lot of money for poor initial service and so so food.

Good food and good ambiance. Make sure to request a table by the window; gives you a great view of the lake. I'm not a fish eater but the almond crusted halibut was amazing. Service was great too. Will definitely dine again next trip.

I was seated quickly on a holiday weekend, but service was slow going after that. We ordered a few appraisers, fried asparagus and raw oysters. The asparagus defiantly came from the freezer and were very stringy and over cooked, the oysters were nothing special i would have expected Blue Points, and Kumamotos for the price but they were not! The waitress was not knowledgeable on much, including the beer selection after a 45 minute wait or order was taken. 4 plates showed up to the table 2 prime rib and shrimps, one seared chicken and a filet. My prime rib was ordered rare, there was not a drop of juice on the plate and the meat was oxidized from sitting under the heat lamp and the mashed potatoes had a thick crust. I do not feel that this met the expectations of a rare piece of prim rib. This was disappointing. The other plates didn't get any better but i wont carry on. I understand everything is overpriced in south lake but come on..... This compared to McCormick's in SF or even Ruth's Chris in walnut creek is a no brainier The 12.95 buffet at the lake side was better food and atmosphere! 250$ not well spent!!!!

The girls went to Lake Tahoe for a few days and decided at the last minute to go to the Chart House. We were happy to get seated. The place was crowded. We only wanted drinks and something light. I ordered some kind of peach cocktail, amazing, clam chowder, amazing and and dessert, amazing. Our waitperson was very helpful and attentive. I will definitely go back when I am at Lake Tahoe again.

The service was amazing!! We brought our 6 month old son to dinner, and he got a little fussy. Me and my husband had to take turns walking him around so he wouldn't bother the other diners. It took us forever to order because my husband and I were rarely seated at the same time. Our waiter was very patient, and managed to serve the dinner when we were both seated. The food was also amazing. We had oysters for an appetizer and I would recommend those. The view was also very beautiful. We will definitely be going back!!

If Yelp allowed 10 stars I would rate the Chart House with that. This place was amazing! I went with my fiancé for her birthday celebration. If you let them know in advance they will personalize your menu with a message that you pick. Then we were sat right next to the fire place, which set the perfect mood for the entire dinner. Our waiter, which I unfortunately forget his name because I'm horrible with names, made sure we had everything we needed throughout the dinner. He checked on us just enough without being bothersome. My fiancé had the NY steak and I had the filet with the lobster tail. Both steaks were cooked a perfectly juicy medium rare and the lobster was awesome! We also shared the sizzling hot mushrooms which were off the hook! I ordered a bottle of the Luccio Moscata wine, which I know isn't the best pairing wine for steak but I love Moscata, and It was perfectly sweet. BUT, the BEST part of this place was the molten chocolate cake. It's made to order so they ask to give a 30 minute heads up. But I suggest you order it at the beginning that way it comes out at the perfect time, which I did. The best way to describe it is this. The center is like a giant chocolate chip from a cookie right out of the oven. The outside is a beautiful cross between a moist cake and a brownie. It's warm, soft, moist, and with a light crunch on the exterior. Then it's topped with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and bits of toffee. The fist bite I had I made sure I had a little of everything to get the best first impression. OMG!!!!!! I had to check my pants after that, and I'm not talking about spilling any on myself if you catch my drift. This was hands down the BEST chocolate desert I ever had! And for everything I ordered the check was not bad at all. Overall the Chart House is a GREAT dining establishment. Its a must of you are in the south lake tahoe area. Whether its a special occasion or just want a great dinner. I definitely will eat there every time I'm in the area!

This place is hard to find! It is such a beautiful place overlooking the gorgeous lake. I went on a double date and our server was amazing..even though he was very rushed and quick with everything he was funny and good at what he did. We made a reservation an hour before arrival and they sat us within 10 minutes on a Saturday night. When we were sat we received our on personal menus wishing us a happy birthday and anniversary. The drinks here are delicious. I guess since they are known mostly known for their seafood their meat dishes were a bit unflavored as some other high-end steak houses. Their seafood dishes were delicious though! I tried their dynamite dish and it was packed full of flavor. I would definitely try to go here as early as you can just so you can experience the view.

The food was excellent!! I had a reservation and a couple hours before was able to change it to a later time, running late and still had our table ready for us. Service was good up until closing time at the restaurant (we had a late dinner) ~ the lights in the restaurant shut down (timer?), luckily, we just finished our meals - but still had to eat dessert using only the candlelight. Even when it was time to pay our bill we literally had to ask for a flashlight to look at our bill. We were making comments to the staff and the lights never went back on, nor did they apologize for the inconvenience! Our server didn't even apologize or explain the reason for the lights shutting off until we were ready to leave. There was another couple still eating their dinner in the dark, I think they ended up leaving ~ no one even bothered to apologize or explain to them either. So, all in all, 5 stars on food - 3 on service.

Took my dad there for his birthday. We called and told them we would be a couple minutes late for our reservation, and we only had to wait a few minutes. The view was beautiful; I made the reservation specifically so we could watch the sunset over the lake. The server was polite and efficient enough. My aunt and I had cosmos, a bit weak but not bad. The calamari was not chewy or greasy, and was fried with some other veggies--red peppers I think gave the whole plate a nice aroma. Avoid the bottled cocktail sauce but the sweet chili sauce was good. My dad and aunt ordered the filet mignon, and I was shocked to look over after a few bites if my seared yellowfin ahi to see he had polished off his whole plate. He really liked it. Not a veggie to get in his way. Maybe it could have been bigger? I didn't get to see it. My ahi had a nice spiced crust. Tell them to cook it a bit more if you don't want only a milimeter sear on the outside. It was cut in strange pie wedges instead of the normal thin slice, and I had to eat around a line of fat that ran through the middle of it. They shouldn't have bothered to put one sad looking piece of wilted spinach on the plate, but the wasabi sauce was very good. My family really enjoyed it. It's the only place we've really had a good nice meal in South Lake.

Pricey but the food was great. I took my family here for a post Christmas dinner celebration so it was pretty busy. The service was a bit slow, but it was nice to not be in a hurry. I gave 4 stars because of price.

There is no contesting this restaurant has a wonderful view and it seems that all the tables take advantage of it. The food is good, but not great and it was noisy the evening we were there. I am glad we went, but 19 in Harvey's also has a great view and better food and it's not noisy.

(April 2012) Our last night in So.Lake Tahoe..we are on our honeymoon..and we heard this place was a must. We were seated by the window, a beautiful view (make reservations!) Our waitress was friendly, Danielle was her name I believe. We ordered the crab, avocado, and mango appetizer, it was very good, and hats off to the chef for seasoning it perfectly! I ordered a Mai Tai, which wasn't made well, but they gladly exchanged it for a mojito that was wonderful. I then had a soup sampler. It's all 3 soups they make. Lobster Bisque, Clam Chowder, and Gazpacho. All 3 are soooo good! Next our entree arrived, I had the Mixed Grill..pure perfection! Salmon, crab, shrimp, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. A must try!! Everything was cooked perfectly! The side of grilled mushrooms we ordered was great too. Lastly, we had a cup of coffee and our decadent lava cake! Simply fabulous! We left full and very pleased. Great food, nice service, and worth every cent! ($180 total)

Chart house is one of my favorite franchises. I grew up next to a Chart House, and have fond memories. I love the salad bar buffet. Fresh made caesar salad, caviar, anchovies, and about 10 other little mixed salads. This endless salad bar is only $7 with any entree. The bread is good too. Irresistible!!!

Amazing view, call ahead for reservations and ask for a table by the window. Don't expect to get away with a cheap bill here but DO expect to be full and satisfied. I suggest the Herb Crusted Salmon with a side salad bar.

Came here during the presidents 3 day weekend. We had a reservation and were seated right away. I've been to multiple Chart Houses, but those mostly located on the coast and the one in Boston. I found this Chart House to be very different then quite the others but loved it. I took my GF here for the first time and she just loved the food. Decent size portions and a delicious wine selection. I would definitely dine here again. I did find that this Chart House was smaller than the others I've been too, so if you were going to accommodate a a group 10+ it might be kind of difficult without making a reservation way in advance. The staff was just very friendly. I wish I remembered the name of our waiter, he gets A+ service. I wonder if this place does outdoor seating. Never been to the Lake Tahoe location in the summer.

We came here a while ago, because we were staying for a skiing/snowboarding vacation just up the road. We told them that it was my uncle's birthday on the reservation, and they printed "Happy Birthday Paul!" on the top of the menus, which was pretty cool, i didn't expect it. They seated us by the windows, so we could watch the sun setting over the snowy mountains. Service was pretty good, a little slow, but in their defense, they were pretty busy. Food was delicious, although the waiter did mess up our dessert. He brought us some sort of cake, although we ordered ice cream. Overall, it was very good. Nice restaurant, GREAT view, amazing food, :)

I shouldve listened to everybody elses reviews about this place and saved my money for a better overall dining experience. Just as many other people had said, I had a Reservation for 8:00pm. At 8:45 I complained about still waiting for our table and asked for a free dessert. The manager did oblige and at 9 we were finally sat! What was the point of making a reservation if we still had to wait an hour??? It was Christmas but that's ridiculous. Our waiter, Russ, was robotic and cold. I tried to warm him up a bit by asking him how HE was feeling but it didnt break down his wall. I understand he was busy, but having a friendly waiter can make all the difference. Everything we ordered was good. But not great. And so ridiculously overpriced. For appetizers we ordered the calamari, crab stuffed mushrooms and shrimp cocktail. The calamari was overcooked, way too crispy, the mushrooms were extremely average, however the shrimp cocktail was delicious. The shrimp were huge and juicy. We did ask the waiter for 6 mushrooms and 6 shrimp instead of 5 to accomodate our table size of 6, which he did and that was nice. For entrees, I paid $50 for prime rib that was extremely fatty and a lobster tail that was a tad overcooked. It came with garlic mashed potatoes, however they tasted like they were from a box and arrived lukewarm. The salad bar was nothing special. There's nothing on it that you wouldn't find at a ruby tuesdays except for the caviar which was extremely average. My friend said it was the worst caviar she'd ever tasted, saying it was like licking the inside of a tin can. Don't bother... My friends both ordered the halibut and when it came we laughed. It looked like canned tunafish with some chopped tomatoes on top. Seriously, it looked like cat food. So weird... And the rice it came with was in a pyramid shape, perhaps why the entree would cost so much??? So stupid. The dessert that the manager promised to us turned out to be 2 chocolate lava cakes which were really good. But aren't any lava cakes really good? It wasn't anything special or larger than normal, and thank gosh we didn't pay for them at $10 a pop. The atmosphere of the place was perfect for myself and my 5 friends who were plastered from waiting at the bar an hour for our table. It's loud and crowded and we definitely added to the noise pollution. The dress code is casual, you can come wearing anything you want. I like that they dim the lights, but don't let that ambiance fool you. This is not a great place for a date. I'd also like to concurr with others opinions about the bitchy hostess. So true. Some highschool brat who thinks she's hot, but definitely isn't, and does not know how to appease customers wishes. I had at first complained to her about the long wait and she was basically like," well yeah we're busy. you'll be seated when we can seat you." this was at the point I had to talk to the manager. I couldn't believe her. The manager was incredible though. I asked for a free dessert and she didn't even flinch when she graciously said, "yes yes of course!" it was the only good part of the experience, appart from the company of my friends. Seriosuly, if you want a nice meal and you can afford to spend about $100 a person (drinks, appetizer, salad, entree, dessert) go somewhere more worth it, like mirabelles or Evans. This is a super touristy upsale overpriced chain restaurant that will make you leave feeling ripped off.

I didn't have the same experiences with the wait staff. There were people in the restaurant in their ski clothes (what i was wearing barely qualified above that) and they were all being seated in nice locations. The place was packed and we showed up without a reservation and got a table within 45 minutes. We actually ordered an appetizer at the bar (where the bartender was great and made a very decent martini despite having to actually wait tables in addition to serving many waiting patrons). We had the lobster spring roll which was good (though we did find a small piece of shell which was a big turnoff). The salad bar and prime rib were what you'd expect out of a Chart House. Likewise, our waiter was exactly what I expected at a Chart House in South Lake Tahoe: a ski bum who cleaned up reasonably well and knew enough to not say "dude" or "buddy" after every statement. I wouldn't ask for wine recommendations. This is really a 3.5 star but I can't do that on yelp so I round up.

I went fairly recently to Chart House when we were at the lake for the weekend. The food was good...the food itself was probably at least 4 stars but the menu was pretty lacking. I'm from the Bay Area and I eat a lot in Napa, so when I see prices like this...I'm expecting something really creative and spectacular. They had several different types of seafood, a couple of different types of chicken, and then prime rib. And then the second half of their menu was all different combinations of the aforementioned items. I had sesame crusted salmon, which was great. It probably would have been worth $20, but the $27 price tag was a little steep for the quality. We didn't have any waitstaff or hostess problems, like some other people said. We were told when we called that we wouldn't have a table with a great view because those were for people with reservations, so it didn't really bother me. Our waiter was a little klutzy but other than that it was a pleasant meal. I probably wouldn't go again though, because it was not as good as the price tag.

If you read nothing else in this review, take one thing away: The hostesses are complete and utter b!tches. They need to be fired. I was there on Sunday night, Feb. 17, 2008. They were rude, it was my dad's 60th, we asked to borrow a pen for something and they snapped "we don't have pens here". Are you KIDDING? How hard is it to ask one of the servers? Chart House has very nice decor and atmosphere, but if you hire snotty young hostesses who think they are uber hot, it ruins it all. It is one of the few nice places to eat in Tahoe for a celebration of some sort. Food.. eh. Not fabulous, but fairly nice prime ribs. Caviar at the salad bar...

Great Happy Hour from 4:30 - 6:30. $3.25 for Blue Moon draft beer. $4 for nice selection of glasses of wines. Appetizers for $4 - $6. You have to try the ahi nachos - actually on won tons and delicious. We also liked the fish tacos and bruschetta. We may have to go back before our week is up here. Very friendly service and great views.

My husband and I hosted our rehearsal dinner here for about 35 people. The Chart House staff (particularly Whitney) was AMAZING from the beginning. She helped me secure a private room for our party, helped me pick appetizers and entrees to serve, and even surprised my mother-in-law with a birthday cake and candles so we could sing to her. Overall, such an awesome experience! I definitely recommend hosting a party at The Chart House. The location is great, the private room we were in had a sweeping view of the lake, the menu was delicious, and the staff SUPER friendly. Thanks again Chart House (particularly Whitney) for making our rehearsal dinner so spectacular. We'll be back for dinner soon!

Despite being the only two non-White restaurateurs that evening, my roommate and I were delighted to find the same excellent food, service, and views as the many other Chart Houses offer throughout the nation. My roommate ordered the sesame salmon dish; Can you say WOW!?! The sauce and tender salmon, plus the side baked potato made for an excellent combination. In addition, the steak and lobster plate was heavenly, as is appropriate for this location being so close to the sky. Chart House is for the tongue as what Van Gogh is for the eyes.

Beautiful view, especially at Sunset, would probably go back for drinks and appetizers to watch the sunset, but the food left something to be desired...shrimp over cooked, prime rib under cooked for the order, halibut unexciting at best even with $8.00 salsa they sell with it which brings the total for a small piece of halibut to $40...not worth it. Service was very good though

We drove up Kingsbury grade on our way back to our timeshare. and we got a reservation right away. The manager was so accommodating...especially with our little one. I asked for us to be seated away from everyone because she can get very loud! I got the autumn walnut pear salad. I expected this to be great ... but it wasn't ! I had high hopes for that salad too . I cant remember what salad my hubbsy got but he liked it ! I was really banking my hopes on my fillet mignon and I was right .I asked for it be prepared medium rare... Although it was a little too rare for my taste the server offered to have the cook ..cook it more. I didn't want to be a bother and So i waited for him to ask instead of mentioning it and being rude! Once I got it back it was even more delicious. I'm not sure well be back ... but it was definitely a fine dining experience worth remembering !

Some history first... In college i had some friends that worked at the chart house and i probably ate there, no kidding, 100 times. I loved it and took as many people as I could there. As for the Lake Tahoe restaurant, well, let's just say it's been going downhill for the past 5 years. I usually go there for the 4th of July because of the fantastic view. My last visit, however, was awful. Everything was terrible from the serivce, to the drinks, to the fatty/veiny/grizzeled tuna. They say chicken of the sea, well this was the "catfood plant reject" of the sea. All the orders were messed up around us. Now, this could be attributed to a bad waiter, or a messed up computer, but whatever the case, it seemed that the manager was used to this and quickly gave out free deserts and drinks to all around. Bottom line, there are many other places to go in Tahoe, and unless you need to check out the lake from 8,000 feet, go somewhere else.

This place is comparable to any place in del mar, ca where you get an ocean view while dining (except ours was of the lake). We came here for dinner (i'd recommed reservations) and had to wait a bit for a table so we just had drinks at the bar and ordered appetizers until we got seated. And we got a nice booth facing the lake so we got to see the sun set over the lake which was great. It was definitely worth it The place itself was hard for us to find and we wouldn't have known about it if we didnt get a recommendation by the hotel manager but it was worth the little confusing drive we took. The appetizer was good (crab stuffed mushroom) and the entrees were filling and delicious. My bf got the mixed grill, which comes with grilled salmon, veggies, a huge crab cake and griled shrimp. I had the chicken marsala with mashed potatoes and veggies on the side. There was so much food! I think we ate half and had the rest for dinner the next day. Despite the awkwardness of our waiter and his creepy demeanor, I liked it and think it's a great place for couples to spend a nice night out at. People there seemed like regulars and if you knew your waiter well enough, they would joke around with you. It's definitely a higher end place that I wouldn't eat at everyday, but if you're with someone special it's worth it for the view and food.

This chain often does very well. This site has a nicely done table layout. We asked for a window seat and got it on a crowded night. The drinks were excellent at the bar while we waited (not long). The evening was planned for seafood and my wife and I both highly enjoyed the meal. I had Mahi crusted in Macadamia and peanuts which was cooked just right. My wife had the seared Ahi and loves it. Excellent service all evening from the staff. Well worth the money to have choice of a wide variety of food that is well prepared. 1/2 price wine that night too!

In search for a fabulous steak, we wound up at the Chart House. Unfortunately I left extremely disappointed. we started off with some fried asparagus, which were mediocre. The breading on the outside had good flavor, but the asparagus on the inside were extremely stringy. I expected this place would would know how to correctly cook the asparagus. After ordering the asparagus, we didn't see our waitress for quite some time. We were anxious to our entrees. I chose to order the prime rib expecting it to be wonderful, as I've really never had a bad piece anywhere. After a long wait my meal finally showed up, and needless to say it was not worth the wait. The only place my prime rib had any flavor was around the edges, which is expected. The rest of the cut was tasteless, and even more to my disappointment there was no juice whatsoever in the meat! Being as I ordered my cut cooked medium I was expecting it to be tender and filled with juice. So I ate around the edges of the meat and left the middle, moving on to the masked potatoes. I can't complain about the flavor of them, but they did seem as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp or on the line for too long. I did like how the mashed potatoes were chunky though. I can't remember what veggies came with the plate, so I guess they didn't "wow" me. After dinner we were full, but not satisfied. So we skipped dessert and paid a hefty tag that was not really worth it. Im always willing to pay for a great dinner that is worth it, but this one did not impress. Sad to say I've had better prime rib for far cheaper at the casinos.

It's pricey, but the scenery is beautiful and the food is good. I'd recommend the lobster bisque, and I'd recommend coming at sunset and seeing if you can get a table that overlooks the lake. The service is usually good, but not always consistent. I've had a few waiters who were completely indifferent, and once got a dismissive attitude about food allergies. (By the way... there are two different review pages for the same place, with the same address. Is there some way to report that?)

If you ever eat at this place, you gotta try their clam chowder and their chocolate lava cake. They are both soooo good!!!! I had their tuna and I wanted it rare but seared on the outside. I gotta say my fish was cooked to perfection. I came out of the restaurant probably 20 lbs heavier but it was all worthy.

I was looking for an upscale dinner in Tahoe without being stuck in a casino and this was the perfect place. I didn't know how much it would cost going into it but it wasn't too bad for what you get. The average entree seemed to run about $35 with a lower end bottle of wine at $42. I had the macadamia crusted mahi and it was EXCELLENT. So was the calamari! The dipping sauce was tangy and slightly spicy. Perfect! For dessert we had the Mud Pie and that was great too!

From the outside it looked like a small house but when we entered it was a large restaurant with gorgeous views. We had the lobster bisque and Rockefeller oysters to start. Then I ordered the sea bass baked with steamed vegetables and rice pilaf. My husband had the scallops with bok choy. I should have ordered the scallops they were delicious. My sea bass was cooked perfectly. My husband also added a salad bar to his entree. There was a chef making Cesar salads to order and caviar on crackers. That was a nice touch to the meal. We were so full from our meal we could not order the dessert. Perhaps next time we come to visit. I recommend this place for a nice romantic meal or a special occasion.

growing up in lake tahoe is a whole lot different then visiting. for instance your junior prom is only good enough for the ballroom at the now defunct cesars palace and the senior prom takes place at the edgewood golf course. to take the cheeseyness of it all of course everyone dines here. the restaurant is filled with black suits, perfectly coiffed hair, girls poured into there size 3 dresses when they really know they should be in a size 6. okay okay this is a food review so here it goes. if your from the bay area and you know the true art of fine dining you expect this establishment to be as great as it sounds, your friends tell you the view is great, because it really is awesome and there is nothing quite like the view and beauty of tahoe. but the food is sub par. the waiters and hostesses dont really do that great of a job and the salad bar is just as good as the one at marie callendars. if your from lake tahoe then this is the best. the creme de la creme. the best fine dining restaurant in all of south lake tahoe and carson valley. so this place gets 4 stars because its the middle point of the two different world of people that come here. make sure to keep an eye out and see if you can spot "tahoe tessie" the legendary wives tale similar to the loch ness

EXCELLENT food. The whole dining experience was great. When you pay that much money, you want quality food and excellent service. We got both. Everyone loved what they ordered. My husband had the filet mignon with bleu cheese. It was cooked perfectly and was a good size. My son had the filet medallions and lobster tail. He ate every bit. Two of us ordered the pan seared scallops with orzo. My only complaint was the small amount of orzo. They must have been running low as I only got about 1 tablespoon of orzo under each scallop (4). Last time I was there, my plate was filled and this time I could see the white plate. For the price, they should not skimp on the orzo. The meal was so YUMMY and we ate every bit. We ordered a dessert to share (triple cobbler). It was delicious and everyone in our party loved it. We all went away with a great experience. The only reason I did not rate it 5 stars was for the small portion sizes of orzo for that high price. BTW, the view cannot be captured in a picture. It is INCREDIBLE and will have to be a memory.

The best prime rib ever. I love this place. The whole dining experience is great. It is high enough up the mountain to have the perfect view. Their cocktails are very fruity and tasty. The crab cakes are awesome. I go as often as possible. The wait staff are tremendous.

Wow, place had a great view but the food was lousy. Ordered the filet and lobster tail, fillet was slightly overcooked (not a big deal) but also extremely dry and unseasoned. Lobster tail was way overcooked. For the price you are paying this is completely unacceptable. 3 others in my party also had dry under seasoned steaks so it was unanimously bad. The service was good, the view was good but not good enough to make up for bad food.

My husband took me there for my birthday. we were seated on time, menu said Happy birthday with my name on it, nice touch. Our food was great, service was great, but i think it is way overpriced!! You cannot find a bottle of wine without paying $45.00 or more, which i do not appreciate. I love my wine and all of their wines are marked way Up! also disappointing nothing comes with your meal, they are the king of side dishes. overall good, but plan on bringing lots of cash.. waiters make bank..

:We were seated at 8:35 for our 8:15 reservations. Ordered our meal right away. We did not get served unitl 9:35. The food was served by a busboy and was cold. I am sure the kitchen sent it with the busboy because Shawn, the waiter was not checking for his orders. I have received good meals at other Chart House Resturants, but this one is one to stay away from. There was no management in sight and when we finally saw the waiter and told him our food was delivered to the table cold, he just said "Why didn't you say anything?". If he was around we would have. If you want to enjoy a good meal, stay away from this Chart House.

I went to the Chart House because I wanted some decent seafood and I had had good experiences with other Chart Houses. It seems like there aren't a whole lot of good restaurants in the South Tahoe area. (My favorite steak house, Paul Kennedy's, evidently went out of business when the area around the Heavenly ski lift was remodeled.) The Chart House is by itself a ways up Kingsbury Grade, past all the other restaurants. It was already dark so I can't say anything about the view. The place was not busy: Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The food was up to par: I ordered the chopped spinach salad and stuffed shrimp, and both were good. The broccoli which came with the shrimp was cooked just right. I had to pass on the rice pilaf though. (Why can't western restaurants serve decent rice?!) I have to give my waiter high marks: Daniel was friendly and always on the ball. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that the food was good, but not memorable.

our hotel manager told us that the view here was great, so we checked it out. we didn't have reservations and it took about 30 minutes for us to get a table - we sat at the bar, which was pretty nice. you can order appetizers there. we sat in a booth which was nice - the sun had just set and we could see the lake just past the trees, and it was great. the food is pricey, but i thought it was tasty enough. the crab mushroom appetizer was good. i got the mixed grill entree which was good. our waiter was a bit creepy and there were some characters in the restaurant, but that just adds to the fun.

I never made it to the Chart House when they were open in Montara; so we made up for it this time in Tahoe.! Hearing so many good things about it, I was in heaven; as people told me, you come here for the steaks and seafood which is exactly what we did.! We had a wonderful table in the back by the windows, overlooking the lake with pine trees and a clear view of the lake with ducks floating around. I love the upscale atmosphere yet how you can still dress casually. It is cool that they have crayons and things to color Everyone from our hostis to the busboys are very friendly; our server, Rachel was very attentive yet not intrusive.! She bent over backwards to bring extra napkins and ranch for my niese, as well as being at the top of her game with the menu and recommendations and making sure we were happy. They cleared dishes and came around with water in a timely manner that was once again attentive yet not intrusive. For appetizers, the fried calamari and one prawn tempera that came with it were both crispy and greasless; I loved the marinara sauce accompanying it with fresh tomatoes. The coconut shrimp were okay, crispy and greasless, but with no coconut flavor. The macadamia crusted mahi mahi is to die for with fresh, tender mahi mahi with ground macadamia nuts in a light, smooth peanut sauce that is not overpowering; the coconut ginger rice is firm and fluffy with a sweet and tangy flavor. For dessert, get the chocolate lava cake with rich yet subtle dark chocolate on the outside and malt chocolate on the inside; it is the most divine dessert out there; you better order two if your party is more than that as they are medium but are only enough for two as I wish I would have gotten more btw the four of us. The extra vanilla ice cream that my niese did not eat was smooth and creamy. The bread is excellent with a light sweet flavor, perfect with a bit of butter. Round it off with a couple beers and you will not be disappointed. So, for upscale steak and seafood dining in an upscale yet casual atmosphere with corgile service at slightly higher but reasonable prices, the Chart House cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys.!

We made our reservations a week ago and were seated sharply at 7:30. We made our order for the appetizer and it took about 20-25 minutes to arrive. Our entries were selected shortly after we sat down, however, we got our food delivered at 9:05. Yes, the place was busy on Friday night, but anyway you look at it, an hour and a half is not acceptable by any standards. The waiter was friendly and the view was good, of course. But the restaurant itself is very dark inside. I can see that they are going for more of an intimate atmosphere, but i plain couldn't see what the flip i was eating. It really did bother me and didn't make me feel any more comfortable. I felt like eating in a dungeon and was very anxious to get the hell out of there to somewhere lit up. I ordered a prosciutto wrapped salmon dish in a miso sauce with a side of Asian style green beans. Salmon was slightly undercooked from what i could taste, but i couldn't see... The miso sauce tasted a bit like melted yogurt and the beens were absolutely dry. You could tell they were done ahead of time and were seating under a plate warmer or something. My friend has ordered a seared Ahi Tuna dish wish was a perfection. Our waitress asked us about five times whether or not we would like to try a lava cake and it became a little annoying toward the end of the night. Overall, the place is still OK, but if you are like me and like to see what you're eating: do not go there for dinner.

Tahoe and surrounding areas seem to cater to casual dining. Sure the casinos have high-end establishments, but it is hard to have a high end experience walking through smoke filled, bright, bells ringing, people whooping casino floors just to get to dinner. We were pleasantly surprised to find the Chart House on the side of the mountain. One of the big draws here is the view of the lake, but we dined at night so we just looked out into the darkness. Darkness like the soul of Mephisto. The menu changes daily as seafood is their specialty. You can do a lot of mixing and matching. You can choose the fish and the preparation or topping. I am not sure how I feel about this. I like to eat. I eat a lot in fact, but that doesn't mean I know what the best combination of topping goes best with Chilean Sea Bass, isn't that what the Chef is for? There is an impressive wine list to accompany the impressive menu. Everyone was happy with their meals and I'm sure we will be back on a future trip to Tahoe.

We got lucky -- we were going out for our anniversary but my husband didn't make reservations in time so we ended up with reservations at a less romantic place, but when driving to our restaurant we spied the Chart House and thought it looked nice so we thought we'd pop in and see how long a wait would be. To our surprise they said only a few minutes and within 10 minutes we were seated at a romantic table with a great view. The food was great, the staff was attentive, and we got our romantic anniversary dinner after all. They probably deserved a 5 star review but I withheld one star because while it was still tasty my filet mug in was a little dry and I had hoped for a little better. My husband's meal was totally fantastic and he was very pleased so if I could it would be a 4.5 star review. Thanks for saving the romance Chart House.

Beautiful atmosphere nestled in the pine trees overlooking the lake. Great service. Chopped salad was amazing. We had the filet and mixed seafood grill. Everything was amazing. Appetizers, cocktails, wine, main courses and the Lava cake. Note, you must order the Lava cake early!

We came here after driving past the street sign and I'm so happy we did!!! This is a little hidden gem. I've been to Tahoe a few times and this is one of the better meals I've had. It has a great view of the lake and if you book ahead you can get a table right by the window. The food was great. I had fish which was wonderful. My husband said he's had better steaks but still really enjoyed it. The highlight of our evening though had to be our waiter Doug. He was amazing!!!!!! Thanks Doug for making such a memorable evening for us.

Ok, let's begin with the negatives because it will be short. I always start out by giving 5 stars on reviews and subtract a star for each negative issue. With this restaurant the only negative was where we were sat. Their area for larger parties, anything 5 people or more, is in the bar area. It was very loud and I do not like eating in the bar. That's it for the bad stuff. Positives, food, view, service and location. The food was made the way it was ordered with no errors. The view of the lake is very nice. The servers were polite and attentive. Our group had 7 people. Next time it will be just my wife and me so we can sit in the normal area. But we will be back.

Love this particular Chart House and the gorgeous setting. We come for the signature salad bar, seafood and first class service. Always a memorable dining experience for a special occasion. Nice to get dressed up for a romantic dinner or a family gathering.

YUM! We were soo happy after this delicious meal! Food is pricey, but isn't bad at all when compared to other nice restaurants in Tahoe area. Place is secluded and has a nice view. Got the mixed seafood platter-it was so delicious! One thing is there is limited options for vegetarians. Sister got a side of ratatouie but it was pretty good sized.

What a treat. Went there for the first time for my birthday and had a wonderful meal and great service. The place was a bit loud so conversation was hard and parking is a challenge so get their early, but the presentation was worth it. If you skip the appetizers ( which were amazing), don't order drinks or dessert, you can get out of there for roughly $30.00 a person. It is worth the drive and cost to eat there on special events.

Stopped in for what we thought was Happy Hour on a Sunday late afternoon, but discovered that holiday weekends are not part of the deal (even though there was nothing mentioned on line to that fact). However...we still had a drink and were disappointed to have a mojito that was mostly ice (alcohol anybody?) and a very expensive margarita that was just so-so. The table next to us waited over an hour for their appetizer and informed the management they were leaving and pretty angry to boot. Now mind you, this was only 4:30pm on a Sunday and there were only about 10 people in the bar....so what's the hang up? Anyway, we are locals and will never return.

We were here for dinner with our daughter before her wedding. We were treated so well and the food was excellent! Best fillet ever! The waiter was warm, friendly and helped us pair a special moscato with desert, perfect. Chart House continues to live up to its reputation!!! Thank you for a lovely evening!

Chart House is pretty sensational. I went to this location for the first time this past Saturday and it was delicious. We got the coconut shrimp as an appetizer, which was absolutely delicious, we also got a steak, salad bar, and a few sides like the baked potato. The food portions are definitely generous, and the quality can't be beat. Great flavor, everything cooked to perfection. The salad bar is awesome, with tons of toppings and fresh ingredients. Price is definitely high but the view at sunset (we had a reservation for 6:15pm) is absolutely breath-taking. A very cool dining experience in south lake. I will be back!

The restaurant has a nice but limited view of the lake but it's very noisy inside. Not the restaurants fault but just too many people who talk loud. The food..well my salmon was under cooked and the vegetables were a bit tough. Calamari was good, but caesar salad drenched with dressing. But the worst part of the dinner was the selection of music playing in the background. I'm guessing the restaurant is allowing some of the help chose the station. Sorry, but when we are paying the kind of money for a dinner like this one, it would be nice to have some music that is soothing instead of what was playing that night. I hope the manager will read this and consider the music selections they use. Dan F.

Went on vacation to Tahoe and went to the Chart House to celebrate a birthday. Parking wasn't the greatest but we got a space- it was midweek- we had reservations so they sat us by a window. The scenery was nice. Place seemed clean. Our waiter was okay, but he couldn't answer some of our questions. We ordered a bottle of wine only to find that they didn't have any more of what we ordered. The food was decent but it wasn't memorable and the portions were very small, though most 'fancy' restaurants tend to give you 5 bite fulls anyway. It was however, pretty darn pricey. For a party of four and one teenager, we shelled out almost 300.00. Without the wine, it would have been about 260.00. We don't mind paying money for a nice fancy meal, but the service, food, portions, and ambience didn't match the price tag on this occasion. I won't go back- I'll try another place next time. It was meh...

I would give the Chart House a consistent 4 1/2 stars. The service is always spot on, and the location and views are awesome. The Salad Bar is definitely 5 star, including Caviar if that is your thing. I love the fresh fish, but am a little disappointed that they a skimping on their high quality sauces and sides. They had a winning combo with the Macadamia Nut Crusted Halibut with a Thai Peanut Sauce, served with coconut jasmine rice, and a vege. They changed the sauce and the side dish. The Mud Pie is always excellent.

  • Kelly R.

Waiters are average. Not very friendly. The steaks we ordered were overcooked, so make sure to order it more raw than you really want it. Don't order the spinach as a side dish. It is mixed with cheese and doesn't taste healthy at all. It tasted worse than frozen spinach from the super market. I would recommend it for older people, as younger people get treated differently. If you're young and expect to be treated properly in the restaurant, be prepared to get into an argument with the waiter.

Much needed review! Engaged 12/13/14 and couldn't have asked for a nicer restaurant! Great service, even better food, a bit pricey and ambiance romantic and casual but can also be formal. They even personalized our menu to say Congrats on Your engagement with the date. Would've added an extra touch with our names but that was still a nice gesture! The views are spectacular and we were seated at a corner table due to the Manager knowing my fiancé plans because he had contacted them that morning of his intended proposal! It was a special night, and he did a good job picking The Chart House and it will forever be in our engagement story. He had set up a video, and the Manager said he recorded it on his phone but never emailed me his copy:-( Kind of a bummer but didn't ruin our night. Our server knew the entire time that he was going to propose but she did so well acting cool and attending to us the entire night. She congratulated us afterwards and we finished the night with two mini bottles of Moët champagne and it was just perfect! We will now return for our anniversaries!

My family and I have visited Tahoe quite a bit and we've heard of the Chart House several times, but never had the opportunity to try it. This time, we made it a point to visit for Happy Hour. The Kim Chee Calamari is a must try. It was knock your socks off good!! All appetizers were super delicious and they don't cheat you on the beverages. They were even able to accommodate my sister, who has a gluten allergy. Everything was so good, we stayed for dessert, and even that was super delicious. All in all, a bit pricey, but the service, food, drinks and stunning view made it completely worth it. I absolutely recommend this establishment!

The ginger Rita and the Great Basin "icky" IPA are tasty for happy hour and the view is magnificent. My husband took me to eat here on my 21st birthday a million lifetimes ago and we have been back many times since. I've never had a bad meal or a bad time here. I love this place! I saw somewhere that this is listed as lakefront... not at all. it has a lake view but it is way up on Kingsbury Grade.

My boyfriend and I came here the other night while we were in Tahoe during LDW and thought that the view was amazing! It was incredibly busy the night we came so it was understandable that service might take a little longer than expected, but we sat at our table for almost half an hour before our server came to ask us about our drinks. For Chart House, that should be incredibly embarrassing that patrons that frequent this chain - or even if this was our first time- to be ignored or forgotten about for half an hour! After we finally got our drink orders in, we jumped on the chance to just order in case we would have to sit around for another long period of time without service. I had the spinach salad, which of course, is always great. My boyfriend opted for the salad bar which always has a great selection of fruit and veggies. Unfortunately, our NY steaks at this Chart House weren't as memorable. There was so much gristle and uncooked fat on our medium-rare steaks that we opted to finish dinner early and leave after the fireworks. The best thing on the plate were the mashed potatoes, but even so, the sides shouldn't outshine the main dish -- which should have been the steak. It's interesting how different the service and preparation at this Chart House is. I've never experienced having my server request that I cut into the center of my steak to "make sure it was cooked properly" ... if I'm paying almost $50 a steak ... it should already come out the way I ask for it to. Additionally, there were salt and pepper shakers on every table, which I've never seen at high-end restaurants because food should be seasoned exceptionally well given the price per entree. We had to add salt to basically everything. The steak was incredibly under seasoned and there was no salt crust like usual. We were disappointed. We've been to the other Chart Houses closer to home (Orange County), and we've never been so shocked at how poorly our food preparation was. Not saying that the meal was incredibly expensive, but it certainly wasn't cheap and for the lack of attention to the diners as well as the under seasoning of everything that came out ... it was definitely a waste of a few hours. I won't be coming back to this Chart House, but I would definitely recommend the one in Orange County.

Great view, great service, great presentation, great menu, but only good food. The high prices are not fully justified. Should be 5 stars for the prices in my opinion. We ordered multiple appetizers, the salad bar and several different main courses. The feeling was basically the same. The food was presented well but fell short on our reasonably high expectations. The bottom line is that the food was not very flavorful. We put salt on almost everything.

We have always had excellent service and food at the Chart House. We made a reservation for our anniversary dinner, July 4, 2015, 4 months in advance. It is the perfect place for a romantic dinner, watch the fireworks and then have dessert. We waited more than 20 minutes to be seated and then were taken to a non-view table. There were two open tables on the window overlooking the lake. When we asked if we could be seated at one of them, the hostess asked the gal seating everyone, who told her within my earshot, "no, make something up to tell them." My husband then walked up and asked and she snapped at him, "everyone here wants a table." when he asked if we could wait she again snapped, "you'll have to wait for it to be bussed." At this time there was only one other party waiting for a table- the table was for 4 and the party had 6 people. So why was she saving the view tables??? They do not let you reserve window tables, they are first come first served. We left the restaurant without eating. So much for a romantic anniversary dinner. I am sending back my "Landry's VIP" card. Very disappointed. They need to retrain their hostess in customer service. A customer should not be treated like an inconvenience.

Me and my fiancé went here in celebration of my dr.'s saying I'm kickin cancers tushy, and not only does every seat in the house have an amazing and beautiful view, but we got fast, friendly service. We got the calamari, fish tacos, and duck wontons and just the calamari alone I could have eaten all night long. Then we got the halibut and prime rib. Both were delicious! Best cut of prime rib I've had in a long time! We will be coming back often!

Fantastic happy hour 4:30-6:30pm. Great values, delicious selections (we tried almost all of them), and a beautiful view of the sun setting behind the lake. Minus one star for only two (decent) draft beer options on the happy hour menu. Favorite items were kimchi calamari, pork sliders, and deep-fried artichoke hearts.

Eating at the Chart House was a pretty great experience, even though it did have its "bumps". My husband and I chose to celebrate our anniversary by having dinner here last night. We were originally seated next to a couple having some sort of dispute (and it seemed the wife was quite intoxicated, even though they'd arrived only moments before us). We asked to be moved and were. Unfortunately, we were then seated next to very large, very loud holiday party. The way this restaurant is laid out, I doubt there was a table that couldn't hear this party! The staff went out of their way to make up for the inconvenience, though. They were all lovely and offered us cocktails on the house as compensation. Dinner was wonderful. Even the salad bar was really good. My husband's "new wave surf & turf" was comprised of a short rib and scallops, which were both incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked. My flat iron steak was amazing! Our appetizer (crab and veggie fritters) were very tasty (and larger than I would have expected). And they brought us mud pie for dessert for our anniversary. Even given the noise and having to change tables, we both agreed it was the perfect choice for our celebration. We would highly recommend it!

way downhill from our last visit - new items on the menu - capaccio appetizer was dreadful - no olive oil, very few capers, hardly any parmesan - wtf? Duck pot stickers were ok, but nothing special (except the price). The steak and pepper fetuccini was bland and as far as I could tell, there was NO pepper. The steak seemed an afterthought, and while a good cut of meat, had no seasoning at all. The flat iron steak suffered from the opposite - the asian based sauce overpowered the meat, and speaking of the meat - when my wife requested the steak be prepared rare, our server told her that chef recommends medium at least, as otherwise the steak would be too tough to chew. Really??? I've had rare flat iron before and had never had an issue with chewability. For the kind of prices they charge, one would expect a much more deft hand in the kitchen - we were sorely disappointed and will not be returning.

Great view and excellent staff. We were so impressed with this place that we ate here two nights in a row. Our first night my husband ordered the king crab legs and I had the prime rib they were both excellent. Our appetizer was the prawn cocktail and that was yummy too! Our second night my husband ordered the lobster tail and I ordered the panko crusted chicken. Well avoid the panko crusted chicken I had to send it back there was nothing panko crusted about it. It was greasy and tasted like it was dipped in cheese and fried. It was disgusting. The salad bar is good with plenty of choices.

I pulled in to Lake Tahoe an hour and a half before they closed. As a last minute arrangement, I called ahead to book a table and said I'd be there in 20 minutes. They asked if it was a special occasion, and indeed it was my birthday. I thought nothing of it. Until I arrived. I was pleasantly surprised with the dinner menu printed with my name and a congratulatory greeting, which is a real nice and personal gesture. My waiter was amicable and we traded some chit chat before I dug in to the main fare. I decided to spoil myself that night with the surf & turf, and I was not disappointed. I had ordered dessert and to my pleasant surprise they also threw in a second, complementary dessert (the mud pie, which is to die for) as it was a special occasion. I've never had a fuller birthday dinner. If you want to spoil yourself right, you can't do wrong here.

Visited Chart house for the first time on our 15th wedding anniversary. The service and food was very well done. I sampled the crab/avo appetizer and bisque. Husband loved his crab legs and baked potato, he is not loving holding the toilet bowl right now. omg, I have never in 20 years of being together, heard him explode from both ends...my poor man. The manager was very kind to me on the phone just now. Husband is pissed. I know this can happen anywhere someone other than yourself handles your food. Proceed with caution. no one is getting laid tonight ;(

Came here for Christmas dinner this year - was a good experience! Our waiter was awesome, very helpful but not imposing from the beginning. Service was great throughout. We started with the crab, avocado and mango stack - tasty. Also shared a cup of the lobster bisque. As a person who orders lobster bisque at every opportunity (even when it's probably not the best choice), this was one of the best, if not the best I've had. Wow, was it good. My dining companion and I tried to figure out how to ship a gallon of it back home. Only half joking. I then had the short ribs/scallops 'new wave surf turf,' and my dining companion ordered a fish special. Both were okay, I got two small scallops and a large portion of short rib, so it felt a little unbalanced. Nothing stood out as special or innovative, and it felt expensive for the quality you got. However, everything tasted generally good, just not a 'wower.' And then at the end, the waiter has to go through this pretty long spiel about how if you sign up for rewards blah blah blah. I forgot this was a chain until that happened, and that was just a bit uncomfortable on Christmas dinner. Nothing on the waiter, you could tell he was instructed to do this, but I can't imagine this marketing technique leaves a good feeling about the place after a person's fancier meal.

My daughters and I stopped for dinner last Thursday after an afternoon of horseback riding on the mountain in Tahoe. Needless to say we were hungry. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection even though I ordered it well done. It melted in my mouth. The garlic mashed potatoes were tasty and the bread was served warm. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. My daughter order the salmon of which we all had a bite and it was flavorful and beautifully presented. My other daughter ordered the New York steak and it was delicious and beyond her expectations. The clam chowder was beyond anything. It was the best we had ever eaten. We were fighting over the last bite. The lava cake we were too full for but managed to devour it because it was so good.

Our first time for My husband and I on 2/14/14. This place was packed! When we arrived we received a Very warm welcome from hostess and manager! Seated right on time with a reservation I already placed! Greeted by Jesse server who was really friendly and had great suggestions! We recommend the following: Crab and corn fritters Coconut shrimp Bread and butter on table Short rib and surf entree with scallops And the molten cake! Tony (manager) greeted us and asked how our dinner was which was really nice! Thanks for a great Vday! We will be back with more people!

My husband and I ate here and we loved it.the server was very nice, and attentive, but not overly in your face just the perfect balance.we had the crab cake and the crab avocado appetizer wonderful! Then we had prim rib it was flavorful and cooked well. And for desert the cheesecake and lava cake so good. I have been craving those crab cakes and cheesecake ever since our visit. My husband and I decided we need to make a visit just to get some more, even if we have to make it take out.My only complaint is, that it is on the expensive side, and people brought small children.for people like us,who got a sitter,it is a bit distracting. So to all my fellow yelpers do yourself a favor get a sitter and enjoy your night off, it's worth it.

Ate here tonight and was not at all impressed. The service was Meh, the food was Meh, and the ambiance was Meh. The only reason why I don't give it a one star is because I could scrounge some good out of the experience.

Eh. I've had better for the price and for a high end restaurant. Had an early evening reservation at 5:45 for a party of 2 and it took almost an hour to get our main course after getting one appetizer. Restaurant wasn't full but I guess there was a wedding party below. All seafood was fresh but farm raised seafood only. Portions were adequate. Sides were barely warm and all the food was not overly flavorful. One plus was the extensive gluten free menu they provide. A plus for those looking for those meals.

We arrived a little early, gave our name and waited to be seated! (Got a message from Open Table that we were no-shows-!!!!). We had a very inattentive server. Great view of the lake. One of the few restaurants left with a very good salad bar. My family enjoys dining at the chart house every summer when we vacation in Lake Tahoe. I recommend the calamari appetizer . Definitely a great spot for a nice dinner on south shore.

I was looking for a place to take my girlfriend out for valentine's day and stumbled on this place. The food was amazing, I had the crusted salmon and she had the seared ahi. The service was equally great, they had run out of an appetizer we ordered and they admittedly took a while to inform us, so one of the chefs came out and offered to buy us a desert. We ended up having the lava cake wich was way over our expectations! Overall we left very impressed with an urge to make it a point to go there again on our next visit to Tahoe.

I have been here countless times and it has always been adequate, nothing special; tonight was different. My boyfriend and I met up with another couple here for happy hour this evening and we all had a blast, the drinks were good, we enjoyed our food and everyone liked the service. I was personally surprised by the service, as I had never before experienced GREAT service at Chart House. Doug was awesome and caught on to the vibe of our table rather quickly, he remained professional while casually exchanging banter with us, even as he got busy. Drinks: Happy Hour Mocha-Tini Mango Mojito Pomegranate Mojito Agave Nector House Cab Icky IPA (All if us would repeat our drink orders!) Food: Happy Hour Chicken Lettuce Wrap Ahi Nachos Tempura Shrimp Firecracker Shrimp Calamari (I didn't like the lettuce wrap but others did) It was a great time with great company... Mostly impressed with the service, it was few and far between that our drink went dry before a new one was offered. It was a very nice evening out, thank you Doug and company! You outdid yourselves this evening.

Amazing restaurant. Took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner on our first night in Tahoe. As much as I love yelp, I'm glad I strayed from yelp to book a reservation at this place (at this time, only one other review on yelp). The service was incredible, the meal was a real experience. We started with a bottle of red wine and then ordered according to recommendations made by our waiter. We weren't disappointed with anything! The creamed spinach was to die for. Beautiful view overlooking the lake. Worth every penny

If you like chewy, microwaved bread, eating wilted salads and dry fish, whilst being serenaded by terrible pop music....you will love this place. Otherwise, read the rest of this review and choose a better place to spend your arm and leg. Im disappointed to be writing this review. Im a local here in Tahoe, Ive lived here my whole life and I dont know what happened to this place. It used to be my favorite restaurant in town, but after my last few experiences it has quickly become my least favorite. I feel bad for recommending this place to so many tourists and almost all of my customers looking for a fine dining experience over the last couple years. The service is fine, the view is beautiful, but the atmosphere and food are seriously lacking. Last night marked the last time I will be going there or ever recommending this place to other people. The last five or so times I have been there, I left half my food and declined to even take it home with me. The lettuce at the salad bar was wilting. The fish was not fresh tasting and very dry. The steak wasn't any better. The bread was chewy...obviously microwaved. And the music....my lord, the music. Theres no quicker way to ruin a classy restaurant than playing HORRIBLE, cheesy, poppy music. It completely destroys that whole "classy" vibe they are going for. The alright service and a nice view are not enough to charge people so much. They either need to down their prices or up their game.

The atmosphere was pretty nice but the food was just ok...I was really hoping for more from the food, specially at this price point.

The stars is for the view...incomparable. I have eaten here three times. And like baseball, three strikes and you're out. First visit, a couple of years ago with my husband, food was ok. Not memorably good or bad. Service was blah, and we had the worst seat in the place. Second visit, with my girlfriends, was better. So husband and I gave it another shot tonight. Service was ok, food was, at best, mediocre. The appetizer, "Calamari and friends". Friends? Jalapeños, sweet potato chips and sweet red peppers. Oookay. Clam chowder tasted like it came from a can. Spinach salad, not too bad. Mushrooms had a very strong flavor. Shrimp and artichoke linguini...three bites. Still sitting like a rock in my stomach an hour later. I declined the offer to box up my "leftovers". Husband's crab cakes...similar experience. Dessert we took to go. Hoping the chocolate lava cake makes up for the rest. My advice for a special occasion on south shore? Ciera. They have my vote from now on.

The atmosphere was great! Such a beautiful place to enjoy dinner. We were very disappointed that they were out of 2 of the dishes we were really looking forward to ordering. The meal we had to settle with (stuffed shrimp) wasn't as amazing as it sounded but it wasn't bad either. (It wasn't worth the price we paid.) The drinks were delicious! I ordered a blood orange margarita (I don't remember the name on the menu) and it was AMAZING! The molten lava cake for dessert is also a must. We will have to go bake to order the sea bass that we had been really looking forward to enjoying.

The food was awesome! The service was not. We were the first to be seated in our section where there were only 4 tables. The waiter took our orders before anyone else showed up. Basically we were the last ones to be served. The waiter admitted he had forgotten my glass of wine and "went back to go get it" and came back only to have forgotten again. Everyone else at the other three table that showed up after us had received their drinks. We had ordered soup salads and salmon dish... Does it really take more time to prep soup, salad, and salmon than it does to prep at steak?

Wonderful view, especially when the sun coming down. Very nice food and service. There was one thing impressed me. When the table next to us was reserved, several staff came, put a VIP sign, changed to black napkins and prepared the table. One staff wiped the already-very-clean window glass in front of the table. The customers in that table might see the difference from the table setting. No one would knew the efforts they made wiping the glass because it was already clean. They still did that to make sure they offered the best. From this little action, we knew they were serious about their business. Definitely worth coming back again.

During a horrible Tahoe trip, Chart House was phenomenal. Our server, Alex, was amazing. Their menu was to die for. They were wheelchair accessible and very friendly to our group, which was very rare in Tahoe.

Such a treat to end the perfect day....Dinner at the Chart House with a view of the lake. The prime rib and the filet mignon were both perfectly prepared. The salad bar (with caviar) had the best Italian dressing. I might have to convince Jack to bring the entire family up here for my birthday. Hey. ..today is Jonathan's birthday so I guess we're eating out to celebrate for him.

We enjoyed our dinner so much! The ahi tuna was so good I cannot explain! The filet was outstanding the prime rib was yummy. Overall YES we will come back and I promise I'll be ordering the ahi! The lava cake takes 30 mins so next time I'll order it in advance. The cheesecake was poo and the cram Brulé was yucky.

I don't know if we'll be coming back. We had reservations but had to wait an additional 15 minutes to be seated, Oh well. Service seemed very slow this evening. Like 20-30 minutes per food/drink item. We started with drinks & bread. I had the Downtowner which was very good! Bread was fresh/warm/yummie. Although not seated near the lake view window no biggie, but the restaurant seemed quite noisy which was a bit irritating. After about 25-30 min our coconut shrimp arrived. Very good but the dips were much better. Couldn't really taste the coconut on the shrimp alone. Next came my chopped house salad after another 30min. It was disappointing, I huge mound that looked great but way to much onion which was very strong so I could only eat a forth of it. After another 30min main course arrived prime rib which was excellent as well as the mashed potatoes. Our server Megan did everything she could given the food constraints, it wasn't her fault everything took so long arriving. I don't know why such a high end restaurant had such a slow food/drink service this evening. Megan did explain it was a very busy evening but a restaurant of this caliber shouldn't have a problem with such slow service. Highly doubtful we'll be back.

Stopped by for Happy Hour. Great service and an array of choices. We opted for: Lettuce wraps, sliders, artichoke and spinach dip, skinny fries, fried artichokes and a couple of drinks. All were good. The placed was packed which tells you something too. Give it a try it starts at 4 during the summer

This place has GREAT views of the lake if you're lucky enough to get a window seat. I came here on a Tuesday night and it was pretty empty so it wasn't a problem getting a good view. The food was pretty darn delicious. The clam chowder is among the best I've had. The prime rib was also cooked very well and was delicious.

We had a party of about 10. We were the last to get there, we had reservations. The group we were with had already started on there drinks. There was bread on the table for snacking. Our waitress came over and told us about the specials! It was a lot to take in! I just wanted to see what was on the menu! So the waitress took our order! My NEW SON IN LAW knew we loved prim rib, and said there known for there Prime rib. Ok cool, because for me that's what stuck out. They had a lot of things with sauces, that wasn't Jay approved! So our table ordered several snacks, coconut shrimp, creamed spinach! OMG The creamed spinach was amazing! I'm not sure about the coconut shrimp, but the presentation was amazing! The hubby and I got the prime rib! it only comes with mashed potatoes! But you can order some veggies on the side! But let me tell you about this prime rib! Just a couple of chew's, and you could swallow! It was so tender! and amazing! But the mashed potatoes were a bit much, but maybe because I ate a couple of pieces of bread! So I ate the meat, and left the potatoes! Then we ordered a couple of deserts! One was the lava chocolate brownie, with ice cream, and some crumbled heath bar on top! It was amazing! So when we return, I will stick with what I ordered,l but I want veggies instead of the potatoes! And the view! Wow! Service was great! I have nothing bad to say about this place! Check it out if your in the area!

5 stars for food. 5 stars for service. 5 stars for dranks. 5 stars for ambience. 5 stars for satiety. Chart house is an outstanding establishment! Professional, but quirky atmosphere. Our hostess greeted us once we sought refuge from the cold..and a bear on the loose. We were seated at our table and our server, Doug, led us through a magical food journey. We started with our drinks. I ordered the Cucumber Mint Vodka. They are oh so generous with their spirits--both alcohol and rapport :) For appetizers, we ordered: + Shrimp, Crab, Avocado, and Mango Stack (Delicious!!!) // 15$ + Baker's Dozen of Half Shelled Oysters - (I ate 5, no shame in my game!) // 27$ + Crab Stuffed Mushrooms (My nina's favorite!!) // 14$ + Lobster and Shrimp Spring Rolls // 13$ For entrees, I opted for a fresher alternative because we were feasting like royalty the whole weekend. I ordered: + Chopped Salad -- DELICIOUS and best decision ever because I didn't feel so stuffed. I paired it with shrimp. 7.5$ + Coconut Crunchy Shrimp appetizer // 12$ HEALTH TIP: I could have ordered the Coconut crunchy shrimp entree, but i found a loophole to get in my greens instead of scarfing down extra carbs. (See, it's a give and take relationship if you still want to practice healthy eating habits...plus I ate the bread) I got to sample dididi ("just a little" in Chamorro) of the other entrees we ordered. + New Wave Surf and Turf (gOOD STUFF) // 32$ + Pan seared Scallops (I can tell you that I never liked scallops until this occasion) //30 + Mixed Seafood Grill with orzo (all right, I was happier with mine!) // 33$ We ended the night with delicious LAVA cake. SO SO GOOD! What's a meal there without it? Still excellent. But this, my friends, made the experience over the top! I'll definitely be back when in Tahoe. This place was splendid!

All the food was amazing. An outstanding chef was with us and said the Prime rib was one of the best he has ever had it was cooked to perfection. My scallops were fantastic and the salad bar was the best I have experienced in my life. They are pricy but truly wort it. I am telling all my friends this is the place to go for a memorable event.

I visited this Chart House restaurant this last winter, what there was of winter. Good thing it was a light snowfall year, cause getting to this Chart House can be tricky in the snow, being it's located on steep Kingsbury Grade just out of South Lake Tahoe, Plus that driveway to the restaurant is not exactly flat at all. I might hesitate coming here in a full on snowstorm. When my BF and I visited, it was a easy drive. The happy hour deals were what we came for. The dinner prices here are pretty high, so this is a way to enjoy the view and bar and not spend triple digits for dinner. The Happy Hour deals are only available in the lounge area and there is quite limited seating, so if you plan on the happy hour, you might want to get there on the early side. Happy Hour runs everyday except Sat. from 4:30 to 6:30pm. The Happy Hour appetizers run from $4.00 to $7.00. Beer s are around $3.00, wines are $5.00 per glass and mixed cocktails are $6.00 to $7.00. The appetizers include things like fried artichokes at the low cost end to lettuce wraps and fried shrimp at the mid range and at the $7.00 end, Fish Tacos and Prime Rib Sliders. We ordered the Bruchetta ($6.00), Fish Tacos ($7.00), Fried Calamari ($6.00) and Prime Rib Sliders ($7.00) along with 2 rounds of the Merlot ($5.00) per glass. So the food was only $26, but the wine was $20 ... so not too much, but would have been less if we drank less! The bruchetta was a decent version, lots of garlic. The fish tacos were yummy and limey. The fried calamari was actually real good, and not greasy at all, cooked perfect and tender. The sliders arrived as 3 little hamburgers. That's hard to split being a couple, but I suppose if you had a three some that would work out! Overall, the food was competent, but maybe not off the charts great. It's a pretty dependable place and the service is professional. You don't get to be a server here without a lot of real experience. We had no problems with the service at all. One thing we tried for real dinner one time was the unlimited salad bar for $17.00. It's $9.00 if you get an entree. We just had the salad bar. The salad bar is huge and has all kinds of salads and yummy stuff. Caesar, Spinach and greens along with potato salad. What I thought was amazing was there is unlimited caviar! It's the black caviar, and maybe not the high end Russian stuff, but it was fine if you like caviar. I'd say well worth the $17.00 to dine with a spectacular view at Lake Tahoe. I'd return here whenever the occasion arises. Maybe just not in a snowstorm!

My wife and I visited Tahoe and had tried many restaurants throughout the week. This one is hands down the nicest restaurant in tahoe! Amazing views and incredible food and service! We ordered coconut prawns for an appetizer. Salad bar was fantastic! Have the Caesar salad! Entrees- filet mignon w garlic mashed potatoes. Seared scallops and ratatouille. Both were fantastic!

Enjoyed a nice dinner and view for a celebratory dinner. View of the lake made the experience moreover than any other factor, methinks. My endless salad bar choice was plenty fine, having options like palm hearts, caviar, radishes, beets, and fresh fruit.. Some inconsistent cooking for the entrees- one salmon fillet was overcooked. Two lava cakes ordered, each noticeably a different size from the other. Service--our server made a few mistakes. Wrong wine, forgot some lime wedges requested. The sourdough rolls at this restaurant are delicious!!! Warm and wonderful. Prime rib was a little under from the ordered temp. Probably true: best fine dining view of the lake

We came after a full day ski at heavenly resort, expecting a big dinner to fill up the exhausting body. it's a beautiful place with great view, though for a group of 8, they are not able to accommodate us by the window. But I can say it's a good dating spot. Food is only okay level. Starter: The Lobster Bisque is clearly too salty, Salad Bar is awesome, for $8.99 ( order with entree), it's all you can eat. They have plenty choice, including good quality fruits. Entree: Seared Scallop is only okay level, serve with tasty potato mash; Prime Rib is a disappoint, the steak is well prepared but clearly not top quality. Filet mignon is much better. People also ordered fish in my group, their Sea Bass is highly recommend. In all, this place is three star in good and four star for the environment.

I usually don't rate a 5, but this restaurant was the highlight of the trip. The food, atmosphere and service is outstanding. Everything we ordered came out perfect. I would drive there again for a special occasion /getaway. A note for some with a sweet tooth.....remember to order the dessert (it takes 30 min in advance) Loved it

Yellow tail ahi... Best fish I've ever had. The view was awesome. We were seated at a window table right at about sunset, fantastic. The server was great and the portions were large. Not much more you could have asked for here.

Amazing restaurant. Our waiter John was absolutely wonderful with his personality and professionalism. The food and drinks were on another level, I finished off my New York steak no problem, girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed her steak that was marinated in soy sauce and other ingredients. The molten lava cake for dessert was on point as well. Great restaurant, great service, just a bit pricey.

My husband treated me to the Chart House for our 11th wedding anniversary and it was amazing! They greeted us at the front and wished us a happy anniversary, our waiter wished us a happy anniversary and even our menus were printed with "Happy 11th Anniversary!". The manager came over and asked how everything was and again, wished us a happy anniversary. It was such an incredible experience! The waiter, Joe, was so knowledgeable and helpful with his suggestions...we really liked him! They even brought us a complimentary dessert! The food was delicious, the drinks were smooth, views amazing and the wait staff, incredible! And, all in all, our bill was only $112! I can't wait to go back.

Not much to see here folks, just another excellent chart house restaurant. Started off with the lobster spring rolls, divinely fresh and tasty. Then tried the trio of soups which didn't disappoint at all. Finished it off with some fine wine and the CH surf and turf which merged a brilliantly cooked short rib along with a few wonderfully cooked scallops. Forgot the server's name, but he was a very loud (in a good way) and outgoing gentleman who did an excellent job of balancing his tables, making great suggestions, and even making certain selections for us. Overall this place does not disappoint, just as the Chart Houses that I've been to never do. It's good to have finally found out that a nice restaurant like this exists in South Lake!

Fabulous happy hour cannot beat it. We came here one evening for Happy Hour and although the sun sets as soon as they open and you cannot see much in the winter the place is really nice. Might have to come try for dinner one evening when we are up here in the summer to see the view. We ordered a wide array of things off the Happy Hour Menu, which has some nice variety, hummus, shrimp and sliders to name a few. Yummy! A few of the items we ordered were the prime rib sliders for hubby and the fish tacos for me. They were both fabulous. The service is really good and I was surprised how the place really filled up on a weeknight. We sat and visited and had a really nice time and never felt rushed. We got there early and happy hour isnt very long I think 4:30-6:30 and we had a really nice table so we enjoyed every minute of it. We ordered a few desserts off the menu to take to go since we were so full from the goodies we ordered. The cheesecake was to die for and I snacked offof it for a few days. When we left the bar was completely full and people were waiting in the front of the restaurant for tables for dinner which all the window seats were taken. The fireplace was roaring and it had a nice romantic feel in the dining room. It is obviously a place where you are going to spend some money if you come for dinner but if you want to see the view have some great food and atmosphere then come check out the Happy Hour and get the best of both without going broke. Oh Also worth mentioning is the dress code, which seemed non existent I dressed nicely thinking it would be a fancier place yet everyone of the people coming in had on jeans so no worries there if you are here on vacation and didn't bring something dressy your fine here jeans and a blouse or jeans and a shirt for the guys is totally fine here in the dining room as well as bar. Maybe thats cause its winter not sure but that was what I observed.

Celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary with dinner here over Memorial Day weekend. Made reservations only 24 hours before the meal via OpenTable. We were seated promptly and had great service (just the right amount of checking in without feeling like we were being pestered). Crab cakes were excellent. GET THE LAVA CAKE.

For my birthday, my boyfriend decided to treat me to the Chart House. Our reservation was scheduled for 6:45 pm. My boyfriend was very adamant about being on time, since he had read previous reviews that Once we arrived they sat us at our table within 2-3 minutes. The host/serving staff was friendly from the start. Our view was also amazing! We oversaw beautiful Lake Tahoe. If you can get a table near by a window overlooking the Lake, it will definitely add to your experience. Once we took our seats, I looked at the menu and they had personalized the top portion to state, "Happy Birthday Edna!" It really added a personal touch and I was glad they were willing to go the extra mile to satisfy their customers. Our server came by to ask for our drinks and she was willing to let us sample some wines they had already opened. I forgot which wine we got, but it was a delicious Syrah (I believe it was an Australian wine). We then ordered the calamari and artichoke appetizers. The artichoke was cooked in three different ways and each was paired with their own dipping sauce. As for the calamari, it was breaded and friend along with zucchini vegetables and was also paired with a creamy white sauce. Next came our entrees. I ordered a prime rib (well done) that came with mashed potatoes. My boyfriend ordered the New York steak (medium rare) and he gobbled it within 10 minutes! We finished our dinner with desert...the "Lava Cake" and it was amazing! It was a chocolate cake that oozed chocolate from the inside topped with vanilla ice-cream. Overall, the highlights to this experience was the sunset laying upon the lake and the sky. It was truly amazing. We got a chance to go outside and take pictures with an amazing background. Our server was friendly and consistent and the food was on point! We will definitely be coming here again for another special occasion, since it is a bit on the pricey side.

My lovely wife and I had dinner at the Chart House. Dinner was excellent, we had shrimp appetizer. I had scallops, she had prime rib. We brought a bottle of wine from home. The hot lava cake was great way to end a good meal.

We have eaten at this Chart House several times over the years and we are never disappointed. Great salad bar and if you time it right, and the weather cooperates, you may have a spectacular sunset show from your table. Ask your concierge for a free dessert card and get the specialty of the house, molten lava cake. It takes a half hour to prepare so order it along with your entree.

Good food, not great. The sliders are served on the equivalent to a fast food bun and the artichoke spinach dip was basically their creamed spinach with some tomatoes on top I didn't taste any artichoke. The coctails are too sweet and the prices for everything are waaayyy too high, dinner for 2 $130 . I'm sure there have got to be better places for a better value. But if you want a fancy night out and don't care about over spending then this is your place. We sat at the bar... the bartender forgot about us a few times but otherwise was nice.

Nice place to host a small wedding and reception with beautiful scenery. My waitress was super friendly. The Caesar salad was good. Their cocktails are not strong at all. I had a margarita that tasted like soda with a drop of tequila. But overall this place is nice.

Well, hm. I'm not sure where to start or what to say. I don't want to totally diss this place, but I'm not exactly here to spread the love either. The night started off great. They sat us ahead of our reservation time, which we greatly appreciated. Our waiter greeted us instantly and took our drink orders. The waiter recommended an amazing red wine to start, which I really loved. We then decided on the lobster bisque to start. Once the lobster bisque came, we had decided on our entrees which the waiter took down. My boyfriend decided on the Caesar salad before his entree, which I assumed would be brought after the soup. Briefly into enjoying our soup, which was probably the best bisque I've ever had, I noticed very quickly that his salad had arrived. The waiter, then realizing we weren't near finished, set the salad on the carrying tray behind us. Then he waited. Kind of hovered really, waiting for us to finish with our soup. He then left, came back, left, came back and decided enough time had passed to deliver the salad. We were no where near finished, so the salad just on our table instead. The entrees came after my boyfriend had finished his salad thankfully, and in good time. We both ordered the prime rib, which his was cut perfectly. Thought on mine, I have never seen so much fat on a steak. Ever. It was incredibly disappointing. However the steak portion was really delicious. Considering the cost and where we were, I feel this should not have happened. The shrimp I added to my meal were huge, flavorful, and delicious. Coconut shrimp, you rock! What proceeded to happen next, however, was...quite odd. Without going into gross detail, the women's restroom was a disaster. A few "working women" in there treated the Chart House's as their own, leaving several foul smells (barf, dirty feet and all) that had me gasping for air when I left. Seriously? Where am I? Then to top the evening off, we were approached by the waiter to purchase a points card. A tacky points card. Really? A lovely restaurant proved to be the equivalent of Chilli's with that one poorly thought out "offer." I can't say that I will be returning. I did enjoy aspects of my meal and the experience in general, but I feel the negatives are too strong to make me desire Chart House once again.

We came here for my parents 50th anniversary last night. The view, service and meal was fantastic. We ordered the calamari and the crab cakes for appetizers and both were delicious. The salad bar was very good too. For dinner we ordered steaks, the macadamia fish, soup, shrimp pasta and stuff tilapia. Everything was delicious. We can't wait to come back next year and we highly recommend it to everyone!!!

Disappointed in food! We went to have a nice relaxing dinner out but the service was rushed and the entrees tasted weird. Ambiance good, wine good and wait staff was friendly, but the sea bass and Gorgonzola risotto was awful.

We have loved the chart house restaurant for many years. My husband likes to go there each year to celebrate his birthday and we've gone for other occasions as well. Usually it is a wonderful experience. However, our most recent visit on May 23rd was anything but wonderful. We took his mom and step dad in addition to my husband, son, and me. The waitress, Alex, needs more training on how to be a waitress at a high end restaurant. She never once filled my mom-in-law's glass back up even when she filled other glasses at the table. My mom-in-law wound up filling her own glass from the extra water glass at the table. The food was presented to us cooked other than ordered. My prime rib was over cooked and her steak was under cooked. Alex asked me "so I guess you want a new one?" And then asked my mom-in-law if they should just cook it a little more. I got a new steak and when they brought out the one to her, it was no better. Alex didn't seem to get it when the response she got was that it would just be "fine". She also didn't get it when my in laws swapped plates so that they shared his food and put her steak aside. I was embarrassed that we took them there. In addition, other times we have had the wait staff offer to wrap up (by rolling them up with a ribbon) the custom menus that say hubby's name and date at the top...not Alex. Her only suggestion was that we could keep one. We put that menu on an unused chair at the table (for some reason they set up a table for 6 not 5 from the reservation), then Alex isn't even careful as she removes plates from the table. Thankfully there are no permanent creases in the keepsake. It was a bad experience that will make us reconsider going back. Truly sad when you consider that the first time my husband ate at The Chart House was in the early 1990's. Doubt that my in laws will ever go back. Also unfortunate since the Chart House had the potential for some new loyal customers.

Great during happy hour. I came with my wife right before sunset and had a great view. We ordered some calamari, fish tacos, sliders, spinach dip, firecracker shrimp, and two drinks and still had a bill of $35 before tip. Our server was nice and efficient. He checked on us a lot and made our experience great. I'd come back if I were in town again.

Excellent food. Beautiful view. Server was nice but the wait for the food was over an hour long. Unacceptable for what they charge. Go for happy hour but get there early!! You get the same great food but for a lot less!

Eh. I won't be coming back here. The food was as you'd expect from a 1970's steakhouse, complete with high prices, the awkward service, oversold salad bar, and outdated decor. The food flavor was ok, but it wasn't anything spectacular and certainly wasn't pushing any culinary boundaries of creativity, flavor, or complexity. For a neat, grilled steak you can go many other places for far cheaper. For a romantic night out, you can do much better than the blasé offerings of the Chart House. I know folks will love this place, but for me, and my palate, this place didn't make the grade.

WE HAD FUN- TWO EVENINGS IN A ROW! - My wife and I went there for HH Thur last week. We enjoyed it so much that we went back there again the very next day with our daughter who just came in from SF! Among us three people over TWO occasions, we tasted almost everything on their HH menu, plus the coconut shrimps (11) and its famous mud pie (12) from the regular menu; we loved them all! Their ahi nachos, fish tacos, sliders, calamari, firy shrimps from the HH menu were all delicious; the "humus dip" was a little bland, though. The coconut shrimps were heavenly. The mud pie went great with coffee, too. For drinks we had Mojito (7), IPA (3.25), and Cab (4), they hit the spot! The service was excellent both evenings. - Besides our assigned waiter, everyone else, including the mgr was happily helping out, making sure everything was satisfactory - Mark of a great restaurant! The place was filled to capacity before 6pm for HH, and practically full by 7pm for dinner, both nights! In past years, we only had dinner here; we now know it's especially good for happy hours, too! We had our wedding reception dinner here. Whitney was the very best to work with in coordinating our whole event. Our dinner area looked amazing and we had 5 star service through out our whole evening. The food was amazing!!! We had oysters, coconut shrimp and the lobster rolls as our appetizers. Our guests loved the food! The macadamian nut chicken was the best thing I have ever had. Thank you Whitney and Chart House for making our evening so special!

5 stars for food and cocktails. My filet melted in my mouth. Cooked to perfect and the meal didn't stop there. Shrimp scampi and mash potatoes completed the meal. We had a birthday at our table and they had the menu printed happy birthday (and his name). I thought that was sooo cool! Great personal touch that sets you apart from every other restaurant who gives a free dessert. The bacon spinach salad was amazing! Then lastly the chocolate molted cake is ridiculous yummy! You have to order it when you order your food because it takes about 30 min to prepare. Our server at first wasn't very friendly but he warmed up after we ordered food. Second year in a row we came here for a birthday dinner and we live 3 and half hours away and will continue to come back!

My wife, son and I went to the chart house to celebrate her birthday. Our waiter was Doug and he was fabulous! Awesome service, good suggestions for dinner, and he was attentive to our needs the entire night. My wife has to eat glutton free and they had one of the best glutton free menus she has seen. She rarely can get a steak or seafood with a sauce but they had a great demiglaze for her short ribs. They were fantastic and I would order them in the future. I ordered the fillet medallions and coconut shrimp. The coconut shrimp were my favorite. Prepared perfectly and the Thai citrus dipping sauce was good enough to keep coming back for more. We topped it off with the chocolate lava cake that my son and I split...okay he devoured it. Excellent food, great service, and glutton free....we will be back.

Not even deserving of a full star. My family and I chose this place for dinner to celebrate my sisters birthday and we sorely regretted it - I felt really bad for my sis. We were seated by the bar and next to a party of 20 or so men so it was very loud. So loud, we couldn't even hear each other talk. To make matters worse, our waiter, while nice enough, seemed lacking in experience when helping us make decisions on the menu or helping us select the right drinks. The wine he suggested after telling him I wanted a smooth buttery wine was the complete opposite when received. He also had this nervous energy and was losing his voice so as he was talking about the specials, none of them seemed appealing. It just wasn't the ambiance we were expecting here. Here's a list of the things that went wrong during our unfortunate visit here: - 1/2 star: We ordered drinks for the table - they all came at different times. My sister didn't get her bloody mary until 45 min. after we sat down. We didn't check our watches when we ordered them but safe to say that we ordered within 5-10 min. of being seated and it was 45 min. after our reservation. - 1/2 star: We ordered appetizers for the table - simple enough, ehh?. 20 min. after ordering, waiter comes out and says "he fat fingered the order" when he placed it and ordered us the wrong thing. He asked if we wanted that instead? NO, we want what we ordered. Even after saying it, he still tried to convince us by saying it was ready now and we'd have to wait longer if we wanted the crab dip. No Thanks - we'd like what we ordered! We finally received our 2 orders of warm crab dip and asked for regular bread instead of the garlic/cheese crackers. The bread never came... -1/2 star: When we received our soup and/or salad, we asked for bread again...it never came. It would've been nice to have with our soup and/or salad. Especially the clam chowder. -1/2 star: Our table was so full of plates from our appetizers and our soups and salads that I PERSONALLY had to bus our own table because our waiter never came around to clear the table - awful! There was a staging area by our table so I walked over and put everyone's salad and soup plates on it. Another random waiter THANKED ME! Ughh.. I shouldn't be doing that in the first place. I should've received an apology instead. -1/2 star: Asked for refills on waters when the soup and salads were delivered, didn't come until our entrees arrived much later. -1 FULL star: When my sister received her steak and shrimp, she was disappointed to find a HAIR in her food. She was disgusted by it and the waiter came and removed the piece of meat from her plate. The manager also came and asked her if she was ok and if she wanted another plate. She said no - she would just eat around where the hair once was because she didn't want to wait for them to cook her another steak. She ended up just eating only the shrimp which she really didn't have the appetite for anymore either. The manager then returned after she was done with her meal and said they were going to take her dinner off of the bill. THANKS! Bread finally came when our entrees arrived. Waiter said he asked the staff for bread for 9...apparently it was delivered to TABLE 9 and not us. We didn't need bread for our entrees so the bread went to waste. - 1 Star: Since gratuity was already included with our party of 9..he got his full gratuity. If it were me, I would've given him 10%. I don't believe in not leaving a tip but with all the things that went wrong, it seems unfair that we were forced to give 18% when we felt the service was severely lacking! While I appreciate the manager taking my sisters dinner off the check....that unfortunate incident was one of MANY errors made. It was just the icing on the cake for us. I WILL NOT be returning here and we even changed our reservations at the local Chart House in San Diego next week where we were planning to take some friends for dinner. We all just had an awful experience here and I am not in a rush to return to this establishment or anything affiliated to it any time soon. Such a shame....

We celebrated Mom's birthday at the Chart House a few weeks ago and all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the overall experience! Ambiance & Décor. - We were seated in the Captain's Corner right next to the fireplace so it was very cozy. The views are more of the trees versus the lake, but they were still great! Service. - Our waiter was excellent! Very personable and patient with us wanting to take our time and not pushing us to order things we did not want. He was also great with the kids! Food. - All of our dishes were top-notch! My mixed seafood grill ($32) with grilled citrus salmon, shrimp scampi & lump crab cake, and asparagus was wonderful with the crab cake being the standout. - The better half's jumbo-lump-crab-meat stuffed Tilapia ($29) with lemon butter was excellent! - Moms' pan-seared Chicken Romano ($20) with Romano cheese, lemon shallot butter, tomatoes, and asparagus disappeared in minutes (OK I helped). All of our dishes were served with yummy Yukon Gold mashed potatoes! Wine. - They have a decent list with many bottles under $30, so it won't break the bank. Kids. - They only serve them medium-rare... Sorry, just kidding, kids are welcome and they do have kids meals with the usual fries, chicken strips, burgers etc. *** Highly, Highly Recommended ***

Well I guess my memory has failed me or.... Chart House just failed. Great Service. Great waiter. They need some help. Great Scallops though. Prime rib was such a let down. So was the building itself. Tired. Was so cool. Now it's not.

Being from Long Island NY we're not familiar with the area, so we live on yelp. We Had an incredible lobster bisque with the right touch of creme and sherry, the prime rib melted in your mouth (and I've been to manyyyyy steak houses) my yellow fin tuna was excellent, as I like it rare, mashed potatoes and asparagus were cooked perfectly, waitress was very friendly and attentive but wasn't annoying. Desserts looked awesome but didn't have the room. The charter looks like an old house from the outside, so you would probably drive right by it. The view of the lake is awesome, ask for a window table out of the sun. Once inside the atmosphere is friendly and casual, shorts and polo are fine. Naked is better but hey...

Extremely disappointed. We had never eaten at the Chart House before and made our reservations well in advance of our weekend at South Shore because we were excited to try some place new. (Normally we dine at Edgewood). Took a taxi from Timber Lodge ($20 each way) and our own bottle of wine. I had the Chopped Spinach Salad $8.50 and their Sea Bass special approx. $40. Husband had Caesar Salad $7.99 and Lobster Tail $41.99. Corkage was $20. I should have paid closer attention to the menu - when it says "Chopped" spinach salad - they mean chopped! Everything on the plate was chopped up into very tiny little morsels, not inviting at all and the warm bacon vinaigrette was not good or warm. Overall the food was just okay with the lobster being the highlight. What ruined our evening was our server and I do not remember his name but he was a young "snowboarder". We arrived early thinking we would have a before dinner drink but the bar was overfull due to happy hour so the hostesses (both very nice) encouraged us to go ahead and be seated at our table and they said we could sit and enjoy a drink for a while before ordering. The server however; got very pushy and upset because we didn't want to order dinner right away. It went down hill from there - he treated us with distain the rest of the evening, barely saying anything and acting "mad" at us! Although the view was nice and the food mediocre because of the way we were treated we most likely will never go back. BTW - It looks like the happy hour and the salad bar would be the way to go if you do go there. Both seem to be hits.

This was so lovely. Friendly unhurried service, and meals prepared with an eye for detail. We loved the lobster spring rolls, the stuffed shrimp, and the ala carte salad bar (all you can eat) had so many yummy toppings. After dinner I went up and got a chilled plate and loaded it with fresh fruit and fresh whipped cream for the table to enjoy, This place has gorgeous views, it is fairly expensive, and perfect for a special occasion.

The hostess was not very accommodating (my girlfriend had to suggest eating at the bar, when the hostess just flat out said there was an hour wait to eat). Otherwise the filet mignon was just average, but the spinach and artichoke happy hour special was phenomenal. It's probably not worth the money, but it's not a terrible experience.

my wife had a steak, it was great! i had ahi tuna, very nice but wasabi mashed potatoes were very inappropriate for the dish, they need to do something with that dish, greens would have been better than mashed potatoes that don't even have a "wasabi" taste to them...

Delicious food - I had the Filet Mignon cooked medium rare, my bf had some sort of Seafood Medley. Both were absolutely phenomenal. The Filet was a bit more rare than what I consider medium rare, but the texture was amazing and I didn't mind one bit. Portions were very generous. Since we were starving we also ordered the Calamari appetizer. This was also very very good. Came with some sort of sweet/tangy sauce. Enough for 3 or 4 people! The only thing that prevented it from being five stars was the service...a little pushy, though friendly. NO, I don't want the dessert, I don't care how good it is. And, NO, I don't want to become a member of the rewards club. I'd probably go back again, the food was excellent.

Great view! My husband and I both had fish, I had grilled tilapia and my husband had grilled king salmon, both were perfectly cooked. The coconut rice that came with it is delicious. We would recommend the lobster bisque as well as the crab cake. It's only one crab cake but definitely worth it. If you'd like to sit by the window for a beautiful sunset view, I'd recommend making a reservation.

Can't say about dinner yet but happy hour specials both in quality and price are the best in Tahoe. Calamari specifically was not greasy... Wine excellent and chart burgers very good

One word: Consistent If anyone is a Lake Tahoe Foodie, you'll know consistency at the Lake is not of the norm. The Macadamia Crusted Mahi is always a good choice; the peanut flavoring is a nice touch, without overpowering the dish. The salad bar could use some work, but that's okay because their Lobster Bisque is too good to pass up. Prime Rib is another good choice- a big, hearty cut that's cooked just right. Their wine list wasn't that impressive, but the server said they were always changing it up. I guess I just caught them at a bad time. If you're on a budget, stay away. But if you'd like a nice dinner out, I'd definitely recommend this place.

We have been to the Chart House many times over the last 20 years and it never seems to disappoint. Tonight was no different as the food was excellent. Our server Whitney was very helpful and when asked had a spot on recommendation. When you return to a restaurant year after year you expect there to be a let down at some point, but fortunately for our family that hasn't happened at the Chart House.

Rib eye and Filet mignon are where it's at. We went twice in two days that we were in Tahoe and really enjoyed both meals so much! Of course as many have mentioned that dessert is worth finding the extra room in your stomach for and worth every bit of the sinful calories its full of. Really they cooked my filet PERFECTLY. It was so tender it just pulled apart. Great service, always easy to get a table, excellent food. Get there. And don't forget to get their Landry's card. It's more than worth your while to grab it, we get a free $25 pretty much every other meal we go to.

I have been to this location twice during my visits to Lake Tahoe and it did not disappoint either time. My last visit had good service and the prime rib was excellent. Perfectly cooked and very tender, definitely some of the best I have even eaten, I definitely will return and will order the prime rib again.

Tasty cuisine, friendly service, and beautiful views creating an ambient atmosphere. Ordered the surf & turf with salmon- nice presentation and very flavorful; however the salmon was slightly undercooked preventing the full 5 stars in this review. Overall wonderful experience and will be back again.

Been to this Chart House many times as we own a TimeShare up the road. Beautiful restaurant with a beautiful view. Good wine list. Delicious salad bar with caviar. Last visit I was fine not going back again. Drink was expensive and not delicious. Food was just okay....ordered fish and it was dry. Last night we decided post meal that we would not return. Not her fault, sure this is management's push, but every single conversation with waitress involved her trying to upsell us. Final bill with tax and tip was $270 for four (brought our own wine with $20 corkage) so we weren't ordering modestly. Three of us had crusted Sea Bass. Delicious, but for $34 there should be more on plate than an average piece of Sea Bass and green beans. Should have had a starch or something else. Salad bar is $8.75 with meal. Shared one dessert, lava cake. So wow, $270 for four without really having drinks, no appetizers, one shared dessert. And EVERY single conversation was an attempt to upsell us. Left a very bad taste in our mouth with saying "no" so so so so so many times. Thankfully we found "our" Tahoe restaurant....Cafe Fiore!!

Hmmm... My husband and I came here for our 1st anniversary. We'd initially wanted to go to the Edgewood Restaurant, but it was closed until Thanksgiving. When we saw some photos of this restaurant we were stoked about the view! Our plan had been to go up there for sunset, grab some cocktails - a couple of appetisers, watch the sunset, maybe a few more cocktails... Romantic! So we booked our table for 4.30 - too early for dinner, perfect time for what I described above. This seemed to be an issue for our waitress. She was friendly, but pushy - kept coming over and asking if we wanted main course and "no thanks, we don't" - I know they probably thought we were hella cheap but she made that pretty obvious. When the waitress realised we were never going to order those mains, she was short with us and brought the bill (I was actually keen to have another cocktail) We had two cocktails, two beers, a couple of apps and a few sides between the two of us. Food was good, filled me up! Didn't like being made to feel we were cheap skibums though. Nice ambiance, good food - wish we'd gone later when we were hungrier to have a few of those mains cos my husband and I ended up eating hot fries from the vending machine at our hotel at 2AM. Happy anniversary, darling! Go here. But don't go here if you're not that hungry and just fancy a snack.

One of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant. First off the waiter forgot our appetizer, after we let him know He stated oops I can't even blame this one on the kitchen I forgot to put the order in. didn't offer a comp or nothing was just like my bad. Then when dinner came two of the orders were wrong, this was a party of 12 people, again he was like really "wow I'm having a bad night it's been really busy". Try writing the orders down next time instead of relining on memory. He said don't worry I'll put the order in right now, basically two meals came after everyone was done eating. I was so frustrated. Never offered us a comp free meal nothing. I was so pissed I didn't even ask to talk to a manager.

My husband and I went to The Chart House for Easter dinner. We shared the spring rolls with dipping sauce for an appetizer, then had a crisp Caesar salad followed by the main course. I had the sea bass and my husband had the mahi. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the service was excellent. The view from the window tables is awesome. This was our fourth time dining here and have never had a bad experience, we love this place!

Absolutely amazing experience & staff!!! They should be well commended on making my father's birthday extra special!! And we had our toddler with us who was not enthused about sitting still at a fine restaurant & they never made us feel uncomfortable & even tried to help her in many ways. They never frowned when she accidentally colored on the white linens & rushed her dinner out ASAP. We look forward to making this place our regular Tahoe restaurant! Thank you!!

I'm giving 3 stars because my husband enjoyed his meal very much, I wasn't impressed with mine. We chose the Chart House for our 10th anniversary we spent in Tahoe. We were seated promptly and the view was pretty nice from our section. The server was somewhat attentive, asked us to let her know if we wanted the chocolate lava dessert before we even ordered but disappeared for a long time between courses and took forever to bring the check. The Landry club card spiel was off putting at the end. My husband ordered the yellowtail Ahi and I ordered the pine nut crusted shrimp & linguine. We both ordered side salads and I asked if onions came on it because I have a mild onion allergy - the server repeated no onions. So my disappointment was when my entree arrived - my pasta was smothered in onions - piled on top and underneath my pasta. The server was gone before I noticed so I picked them off as best as I could, so many so that I filled the bread plate with the onions. I was surprised my server didn't mention to me that my meals main ingredient (which wasn't stated on the menu) was onions - I would never have ordered the dish! I hardly ate, my throat already tingling and my husband told me my cheeks were very flushed. I hate complaining and since my husband was already almost done with his meal by the time I'd picked off most of the onions I figured no point in trying to find our server and order something else. My husband enjoyed his meal thoroughly but we both agreed neither would recommend the place because of my experience. Be VERY specific in your order if you have any sort of food allergy, either the staff isn't very informed of the dishes or they just don't care.

Good place to go for steaks, seafood, and a romantic meal with a great view... Two issues that need some work. First, I expect the steaks to be great not simply good (every chef / cook should be able to hit rare, med-rare, etc. in his / her sleep). Secondly, the service. The staff needs to be attentive, stop spending at much time chatting in the corner, and, I know the restaurant is owned by the Landry's group, the servers shouldn't be promoting the Landry's club (a discrete promotion with a sign possibly?)

My wife and I came here to have our anniversary dinner and we were greeted with a very comfortable atmosphere and very friendly staff. Our server Doug was the best we have ever had super nice and energetic he definitely made the whole experience unforgettable. The food is wonderful but I find it very annoying when a server does nothing but try and up sell you on appetizers, drinks, desserts etc. They top it off here by trying to sell you a diners membership. We started to feel like we were at a Time Share presentation. Unfitting for this restaurant. Get it together Chart House......

Not only is the view spectacular but the food was perfect. The Lobster Bisque was smooth and the New England clam chowder was creamy and very tasty. The Lobster and crab dip was great on the flat breads. The shrimp scampi was not over cooked and had good seasoning. On top of the great view and food, our waiter, Mike was exactly what you want in a waiter: friendly, informative, and makes good suggestions with descriptive reasoning. One of the very few places worth eating in South Lake Tahoe.

To say I was disappointed is an understatement. We invited friends for a weekend get away and dinner at the chart house. My husband and I had been before and loved it. We called for reservations and arrived on time, they were running behind at that point. We were seated downstairs and basically forgotten about. The downstairs dining which we now lovingly refer to as the basement seems to be an overflow although most of the tables were empty. The service was slow and inconsistent and our waitress scarce. We asked if they worked both levels she said no. Hmm where was she? Our glasses of wine and water often sat empty. The food was good although my mashed potatoes had large uncooked pieces (not lumps people I can deal with lumps) finally fed up and ready to pass on dessert that our waitress said had to be ordered 30 minutes in advance, I asked to speak to the manager. He appeared about 5 minutes later, we told him about our night and he looked like a deer in headlights. Much to his credit he did reduce our bill. We would've paid full price for excellent service which you fully expect for establishments of this caliber. Only the best of the best should be slinging this food.

Food: Everything was perfect. All meat cooked exactly to order and was so tender and flavorful. I ordered the 14 oz New York strip expecting it to have a good strip of fat included... nope. Very tiny piece on the side. My girlfriend got the filet mignon, it was tender enough to cut with a fork and by far the best I've ever had. Got a side of asparagus and it was amazing and a great compliment to the meat. Both dishes came with a side of mashed potatoes and were very creamy. The price was definitely upscale, I wouldn't just go there on a whim, but you absolutely get what you pay for. Drinks: Extensive wine list. Very good Cab that was cheap and again went great with the meal. Their Mojitos were on point, with a perfect balance of mint, so that it wasn't overpowering. Service: Exceptional. I've been twice, and both times we had waiters that were very polite, attentive, friendly, and professional. Very deserving of a big tip. Dessert: The perfect conclusion to a great meal. You have to order it when you order your entrees because they make it for you fresh while you eat. They sprinkle crushed up heath bar on top of vanilla ice cream, on top of a delicious brownie. It was rich but not too rich. Scenery: Amazing view of Lake Tahoe. I recommend getting a reservation and doing it for just before sunset. I look forward to going there during the winter. Overall: 5 starts doesn't say enough, I'd go everyday if I could afford it.

Beautiful. Celebrating my boyfriends birthday in South Lake Tahoe was already an amazing time, but I made reservations at Chart House and they were more than accommodating. They had printed "Happy Birthday Curtis" on our menus and sat us immediately by the far corner window which was perfect since we love our long thought provoking wine induced dinner conversations. We were about 15 minutes early for our reservation as well. We ordered a bottle of the Zin from Paso Robles which was pretty good. We went with the waiter's suggestion of Tempura Lobster Lollipops... pretty much to die for. The Lobster Bisque... again, to die for, and we shared the Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes & the crab stuffed shrimp with rice. We butterfly cut the filet since Curt likes it more done, so it wasn't as juicy as I'd prefer, but he liked it. It was very tender and flavorful still. The crab shrimp was amazing as well. Then we finished the night off with the molten lava chocolate cake. Yeah... there wasn't enough to last. It was extraordinary.

The food and service was very good. We had the lobster and shrimp spring roll, shrimp scampi and the stuffed tilapia. Everything was yummy. The servers were promoting the landry's select club card, which was a little off-putting, though. I'm a fan.

We showed up for happy hour (4:30) on a Sunday with a rowdy group of 13 people to celebrate two friends 40th B-days. The staff was very accommodating and friendly and even allowed us to have the happy hour menu at a table normally reserved for the restaurant menu. We had the the firecracker shrimp, calamari, sliders and mussles. They were all delicious and at happy hour, CHEAP! I especially liked the mussels. They were fresh and firm and in a delicious sauce that was drinkable on its own. Big ups to the Chart House staff for really taking care of a big group on a big occasion! Come here for awesome food and service with a side of beautiful location.

The food was good ! The service was HORRIBLE!!!! We went here for my birthday and waited 15 minutes to be seated when we had a reservation. We were ignored by our server, Todd numerous times . He neglected us while treating the table next to us like royalty (they had a coupon for a free appetizer from their hotel while we were paying full price) Our server forgot numerous things and made us feel like we were bothering him by being there. We went on a Monday so they weren't busy & there was no excuse. Will not be back again !!

I had dinner here with my wife for our wedding anniversary. The location is an easy drive from the all the big hotels in South Tahoe and the view of the lake at sunset can't be beat. Food wise, we had a really good New York steak, alongside a well-stocked salad bar. The lobster bisque with sherry is tasty (and better than its "award-winning" clam chowder which was a tad bit too salty for my taste). Coconut shrimp was average, stuffed shrimp with crab was better. Of course, the chocolate lava cake lived up to its expectations - not too sweet and not too cloyingly rich. What impressed us the most was the service. Since it was our anniversary, they printed their menu with our anniversary date on it, and added the candle to the lava cake, all without any prompting from us. Our server, Jennifer (with short brown hair) was friendly, attentive and incredibly efficient! The restaurant manager (or someone we assumed as the manager since he was wearing suit & tie), came by our table 3 times to check in on the dinner. Actually, he startled us twice (not in a bad way) when he seemed to appear out of nowhere and suddenly was right in front of us, to inquire if we needed anything. So, if you're reading this, Mr. Manager, maybe next time try to walk a little slower and speak a little slower! All in all, I recommend Chart House for its food, ambiance and service.

Great turkey dinner. $10.99 for kids and $24.99 for adults. Huge delicious portions. Much easier then cooking at home I realized. Amazing views and great intimate setting. Brother in law gave me a $50 gift card so I had to order a bottle of Moet otherwise dinner would have 20 bucks? Thanks Louie! Awesome service from Ali.

The Chart House was delicious! I came with the boyfriend during Valentines weekend. We ordered an appetizer, seafood fritters, which were amazing. We both ordered champagne, and for the entree I got the lobster tail and he got the seafood mix. Everything was very tasty and fresh, the presentation was very nice, and the portions were good too. We arrived for our reservation about 5 mins early but weren't seated until 20 mins after the reservation time, which was a little annoying since we were both super hungry. But the service after being seated was incredibly friendly and fast; we were out within an hour after being seated. Definitely will come back to try the other entrees and dessert!

The cafe is super cute and the staff was very nice. The breakfast food was tasty but the coffee drinks are amazing, especially the 3 layer Mexican coffee drink!!!!!

Good food and the worst service. If you don't care about services akin to Denny's at 5 star prices, then this is is the place for you. But, if you know that there are soooo many places at South Lake with good food and great service that are worthy of the 5 star price then stay away from this this place. The people here work hard but management was clearly working at Denny's prior to here.

Awesome food and Doug was the best and most attentive waiter! The staff was really first class. We were seated at a table with the best view of the lake and the sunset. Completely first class all the way!

The food here was just ok. If I am going to pay $31.99 for a 16oz prime rib, I would expect a better cut of meat. I was very disappointed that almost half of my cut was fat. Sorry, but I want to eat beef, not fat that will go straight to my ass. I will say that what beef my cut did have was flavorful. My mashed potatoes were not garlic at all. They were smooth, but they were lacking. My wife's chicken romano was great, but the portion was a little small for a $19.99 price. My long island and my wifes peach iced tea tasted great, but they were on the weak side. If I am paying $10 a cocktail, I wanna get plastered after my 2nd. I will say the one saving grace from a one star review for this pricey restaurant was our server Kyle. He knew everything about the menu, (even some of the odd questions that my aunt had about her lobster) and was very attentive and professional. His level of service is what I would expect at a restaurant of this price. The view of the lake was wonderful though.

I just had the clam chowder for soup, 10 ounce Prime Rib (well done), end piece. That was amazingly good, I ate all. For dessert: I had the raspberry sorbetini. Everything is good, can't go wrong.

Ok, so my friends own a place in South Lake and said this is the best place to get steak and seafood on that side of the lake. That being said, the first thing that comes to mind is "just a cut above Sizzler." Seven of us went to dinner and the food was ok, the portions were small for the price, but the service was good. My dish (Chilean sea bass) was a little overcooked, while my partner's halibut was just plain dry. Grabbing bites from others at the table led me to believe that maybe steak would be a better course of action, if I ever decided to go back. This place pales in comparison to comparably priced joints on the north side (Jake's on the Lake mops the floor with this place). The view... was great!

My husband and I went here for our 10th anniversary this weekend. We really enjoyed it. The view is amazing! Our server was so nice and helpful without being annoying and hovering. The food was delicious, the only complaint was I ordered a mixed drink and it was REALLY weak, I couldn't taste any alcohol at all just pineapple juice. Not worth $9. But other than that everything was great

This is our favorite restaurants when we're up in Lake Tahoe. We went to the Chart House on Mon, 8/27/13. The food was excellent as well as the service. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars because of a "hiccup" with the hostess. I made a reservation for 7 pm and we arrived early (at 6 pm) purposely to spend time at the bar. I checked in and told the hostess that we'd be in the bar. We sat in the bar until 7:30 pm, we didn't mind because we were having a good time. I asked the passing hostess about our table and she said that she called our name and we never responded so we lost our table. I told her that we had been sitting at the same table since our arrival and no one ever came into the bar to announce our name. The hostess really didn't care and offered no explanation.

3.5 stars for service 0 star for food Just had dinner here. The service was good. They accommodated us with a nice table even though we didn't have reservations. The service was professional , attentive and efficient. We had the east meets west appetizer (tuna tar tar) which I we thought was good. Our entrees were very disappointing. We ordered the macadamia mahi, seafood mix, and the linguini. All the seafood was dry and extremely bland. You're paying $30+ a plate, nothing should taste like that if you're paying that much. The desert was probably the highlight of our evening (chocolate lava cake - good to share for 3 ppl) We came for the summer season do im guessing the view is a lot nicer in the winter. I would recommend coming here for happy hour or just a smaller bite. The entrees were just Not worth the money.

Whenever we're in Tahoe we try and stop here for a meal. Good steaks and great view of the lake through the pines. I'm really writing this review to give some props to our server Jonathan. He was in training the night we were there and helped us. His service was excellent all around. When it came time to leave, Mrs O had some requests that were a bit over the top. Normally I would tell her she's bringing shame on the family but we were staying in a hotel with no refrigerator or microwave and I wanted to eat those slabs of animal meat later too. Jonathan took the whole thing in stride and organized our to go boxes with extra au jus even. Dude was awesome. Get him some more shifts Chart House management people.

First off I was recommended here by locals at bars and other small businesses. It was my anniversary and was looking to find a great restaurant to enjoy what Tahoe has to offer. My husband and I were extremely excited to spend our night at a great restaurant that had a lot of positive reviews. Our experience was soon to take a turn. The host was extremely friendly when we walked in. The place is absolutely gorgeous inside. After we were sat, we started looking at the wine list since it is a little long to just skim. Our server was Naomi. She was pleasant when we first met her since I told her it was our first time there and then it just went down hill. The restaurant was not busy at all. There was a small party in the next room but lots of open tables. When we ordered a taste of wine we also ordered an appetizer to snack on because we were so hungry. After that the next 10 minutes Naomi rushed to get our order every time she came to the table. I'm not sure if that's restaurant standard but hey you knew it was our anniversary when we made a reservation. The rushed feeling put a bad taste in our mouth and then we couldn't wash it out because our wine just sat at the bar for another 5 minutes as our server was no where to be found. That might not be a long time for some people but for someone who has been in the industry for 12 years ya its a long time. After waiting for drinks our appetizer took 15 mintues! I kid you not our appetizer that was Hummus of all things took 15 minutes. If it was made to order, I mean took fresh ingredients and smashed and pureed them to make the hummus then that is something should of been told to the table that our appetizers take longer than most because they are freshly done. Who wouldn't be happy to hear that?! Since our lovely Naomi failed to tell us that we waited patiently to see how the rest of the service would go. We both got caesar salads which nothing was special about them which meant they were good. Sat around for another 10 minutes for our main course. At that point we have been sitting in the restaurant for an hour. This isn't a super upscale restaurant so our food service shouldn't take longer than an hour fifteen including dessert because they weren't busy. We finally got to the point that we were hungry anymore. It was annoying being ignored after being rushed. I was extremely baffled about their steps of service and procedure. We finally got our dinner. We ate it because it was our anniversary so we were hoping the food would of saved the night. I got the filet and smashed potatoes. It came out perfectly cooked, but had no real flavor to it. I guess Naomi should of told me they don't season a filet with salt or pepper just so I could be prepared. My husband got their chicken dish. Tasted like frozen chicken battered and way over done. Super chewy and tough, no flavor at all. Found better chicken at McDonald's getting one of their McChicken sandwiches. Told Naomi it was "ok" after she cleared out plates. Failed to get the manager involved. I guess working off tips clearly isn't her main objective and is just there to collect a check. Sad to see the manager walking around checking on tables but passed ours up and I couldn't help but to wonder why. Was it because my husband and I are young and dressed nice? Were they labeling us as "kids"? Well sorry Naomi but both my husband and I work in the industry. Unlike you I do take huge pride in my work and would do anything to make my guest feel special and important to where they will want to come back. We failed to addressed the MOD (manager on duty) because we both were so irritated that it would of been more of us venting than anything really getting addressed. Not only did I email their company to inform them of our experience but also this review will be on here so they can understand that service does make or break a restaurant. Yes this is one person writing a review but maybe someone will find this helpful. Oh and please do confirm with Naomi that we still tipped her 20% because industry workers don't stiff others even when they don't deserve It.

Great place. My wife and I were married on the grounds but never had a chance to try their food. We were seat next to a nice window view of lake Tahoe. The service was great and our waiter was very helpful. I had the ahi tuna and my wife had the sea bass. Overall it was a great experience and great food.

Solid seafood fare with an Asian influence. The only quibble I had with my food were that the short rib wasn't as tender throughout as I would've liked. They have a beautiful view of the west from the upstairs and downstairs rooms, the latter being much quieter. This is a great restaurant for the area. I'd go back again if I were visiting Tahoe on the NV border.

Did I mention how I LOVE LOVE LOVE Chart House? Always take my mom here for a really nice dinner. It is pricey, but worth it to me. Never had a bad steak. The creamed spinach is delicious. And their ceasar salad is possibly the best I've ever had. Service is always awesome and nice to see the manager go to every table to check on you.

I visited Chart House on 9/9/12 with the Fiance' and Friend. We started with Calamari, Lobster Spring Rolls, Lobster Bisque and cocktails. All were excellent. I loved the Bold Manhattans, We all ordered the Filet and Lobster. We were not disappointed and I faelt the $48 price was more than reasonable. We finished with the Lava Cake and coffee. The service and view were both fantastic. I am confident I will return.

I was not impressed with their service when I took my husband for his Birthday! I had gone once before for my Birthday, I like the view mainly. So this time around the receptionist had attitude about the window table I preferred she "no" not now we need more staff. Okay, then the waitress was not friendly at all for a high end place. I wanted a happy hour price drink and she said I had to go to the bar myself and as told I went to Bar to order drinks. Then found out she was wrong nice bartender said go sit we will bring your drinks, dah thank you!! So tone was set for me, no more BD celebrations here , too many other choices out there...

We've become regulars here on Mondays for happy hour. Awesome hummus trio, prime rib sliders, fish tacos and steamed mussels. These are appetizers?? We make a meal of them. We like to sit at the bar vs. a bar table and chat with the bartenders, who are always friendly and attentive. Everything we've had from the dinner menu, on our many dining experiences, has been cooked perfectly and accompanied by great sauces and spices. Since Landry's bought this chain, it has been consistently good.

The location is really nice. The restaurant sits atop a hill overlooking the lake. We went there for fourth of July and we had an amazing view of the fireworks from our table. The food is very good, but no better or worse than what you'd expect from the many similar or slightly more expensive American steakhouses all over the country. Service was great. Definitely recommended.

Excellent dinner selection. Party of five enjoyed the oysters appetizer, prime rib, mixed seafood, best of shrimp, and crab stuffed shrimp...all wonderful. Lava cake was rich, but just enough to split between the five of us. Enjoyed the entire experience. Waitress was also for knowledgeable with menu selection. We will be back.

Best piece of prime rib I've ever had. And I've had a lot of prime rib. The location is of course stunning, and the service was great, but I'll be back just hoping that the prime rib will be just as good as it was this time.

Positive: I was looking for nice restaurant for my mother's birthday and it turned out to be very difficult to find in the the area. I am glad that I gave Chart House a try. Very attentive staff. Inside, restaurant has upscale look and feel. It is pricey but the food was very good. Also, they offered to sign me up for their membership and I earned $100 to be applied toward my next dinner in any Landry Club restaurant, which I used for my daughter's birthday party at Rainforest Cafe in San Francisco. Negative: We had a very hard time finding this place. Navigator points to area which is 2 minutes away from the actual location. Only by calling the restaurant and asking for cross street were we able to finally reach it. There are no signs along the road, so make sure that you know where you are going.

Interesting location, perched on a rock pile up Kingsbury Grade. I've never had a chance to check out the view, as I seem to have got here after dusk, the 2x I've dined here. Wasn't that impressed the 1st time, probably 3+ years ago, but dined here recently, sat in the bar, and had a good experience; which was mostly due to the bartender and waitress we had. Food is fairly good for a chain, prices are expensive IMO for what you get. Place was very busy.

Best place to go if you want good food, like seafood, steaks, and dessert. I've always been lucky here and the food is phenomenal. I don't judge a place by it's bread, and I can block out whatever background noise there is. I like good, hearty, fresh food, and this place has always delivered for me.

Ordering fish in a landlocked state seems like a stupid idea. Actually, it's definitely a stupid idea - if you are anywhere but The Chart House. We ordered the Ahi Tuna, the Swordfish, and the Mahi-Mahi. So fresh... And so clean clean. Not only did they all taste like purified perfectly seasoned air from the highest peaks of the untouched Himalayas, but they were all cooked exactly how they should have been - Ahi rare, Swordfish grilled, Mahi crusted. Bish. And "dayummm" to that salad bar. Caviar? Anchovies? Marinated Mushrooms. Have your way with me.

We dined at Chart House in South Lake Tahoe. As other reviewers mentioned, the server did try and upsell and at first we felt rushed to order, but she calmed down after we ordered a bottle of wine. The food was very good for the most part. I remember the lobster bisque was a bit rich for me, but the sea bass entrée I ordered was very tasty. Overall, we had a pleasant experience here.

Great food, great service, incredible view! Since it was Labor Day weekend, we even got to see fireworks over the lake once it got dark which was amazing! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the steaks weren't cooked exactly the way they were ordered. They were still very good, just a bit off temp. We didn't tell our waiter, so I give them 5 stars for service. ;)

Fancy! Oh la la. I ordered the coconut shrimp. They were delightful. Yum. I think my husband ordered the chilean sea bass and he said it was,"so fetch" . Okay, so he did not really say that, but he did say it was really good, cooked to perfection. I hear this place has a nice view... I wouldn't know... It was dark... They have a nice panorama windows, so I bet the view is something else. I love tahoe, def a nice place to take your lady for a fancy bite to eat. Leave your sweatpants or yoga pants (sorry ladies) at home for this place, but don't leave your wallet $$$.

Hands down, fantastic service! The Manager and his staff were on point with every aspect of our dinner experience. From pre-dinner drinks at the bar, to ensuring our table was set-up properly with a view, to the delicious food, to the impeccable service, we enjoyed a great dinner! While the food was very good, the service is what will bring us back time and time again. The entire staff must be commended. Thank you for making our annual summer dinner gathering memorable!

This dining experience was not what I expected. I was at the Chart House for dinner with a friend. We had a reservation and when we arrived we were asked to wait because the server hadn't arrived. About 15 minutes after our reserved time we were seated. We ordered mussels as an appetizer which were wonderful. Actually some of the best I have had in a long time. Unfortunately this was the best part of the meal. As an entree I ordered the salmon and my guest ordered the scallops. We both added a backed potato which was available at additional cost. The salmon was ok. Not great but not bad. The scallops where overcooked and chewy. The potatoes where under-cooked and hard. In addition there was a dead bug on my napkin. I think that at the price point and based on the reputation our meal was less than what was expected. I don't think I will go back.

Came here twice while visiting for a week. 1st time at start of visit and had a good experience even though bartender charged twice to refill soda water with splash cranberry. Food was very good - we ate at the bar and watched the Giants. 2nd time was at end of our stay - very disappointing. Happy hour food was awful, except the ahi nachos, yum. Worse was the service. We sat in the bar area and were completely ignored by a stretched waitress. She didn't have the training to be apologetic for letting us sit so long that we had to get up and order our drinks at bar - twice. Then she had the nerve to tell us happy hour menu was over when she finally reappeared. Probably best, stick with the normal menu - you definitely get what you pay for here. I added a star cuz manager took $ off after we didn't eat one of the dishes.

Russ and Chelsea helped us tonight, and did a fabulous job with kids from 5 yrs to 86. We had a large party, and so couldn't enjoy the view, but the service was great. The salad bar was awesome!!! Isreal makes an amazing Ceasar's, and I enjoyed the three soup sampler, which was fantastic. The steaks were superb. The blackened tilapia was also fantastic. Beware, however, there is too much good stuff!

Up on a hill, away from the hustle and bustle that is South Tahoe lies the Chart House . . . . . a wonderful place to enjoy terrific food along with some of the best views in South Tahoe. We went on a crazy busy night as there was a popular concert playing at one o the casinos in town which meant everyone wanted to eat and then leave all at the same time! Our server was terrific, offering up suggestions on what to get as well as keeping things moving along even though our group was a server's nightmare with everyone barking out directions to her and several in our large party arriving later than the others. I had some fresh oysters to start along with a salad, For my entree- I had a NY strip done to perfection and very tasty. And my martini was delicious and icy! Some of the other winds at the table in terms of food were the scallops and some of the other fish that was offered. The only thing we had that we didn't like was the salmon . . . .the glaze overpowered the fish so much so that it didn't even taste like salmon. Not a cheap date but worth every penny or the views, quality of food and the level of service. Sure . . .it's a chain. But one that does it very well.

Omg. The filet melted in my mouth. I could have cut it with a fork and the garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. The Featured Chardonnay was a yummy addition. This was truly a five star meal!

My family and I visit this location every year while on vacation. Last night we had, by far, the best experience. Our waiter, Doug, was so on top of his game. Drinks never emptied, food was right on time, and Doug gave some amazing suggestions. The best part had to be Dougs personality. He made it more enjoyable than ever before. I highly recommend this location.

Okay, I am aware that ambiance is an important part of the dining experience - but come on people, it is downright dark in your dining room! Everyone had to pass around the iPhone just to read the menu. Kick down a little bit for the electric bill, your prices warrant sufficient lighting! Overall a nice old school restaurant, good location, always a good meal in South Lake Tahoe. I tried the Double Berry Mule for my libation - and it was good but not great. Our server, Doug, was extremely personable and professional. You can tell that he has been there for 15 years. My chopped salad was good, my husband liked the salad bar and my sister inlaw liked the Cesar Salad. I had the Macadamia Crusted Mahi. It was good. My husband liked his Surf and Turf with Salmon, I forgot what everybody else ordered but we were uniformly happy. The bread selection was varied and tasty. My Mud Pie was okay but my husband really liked his cheesecake. After a lovely meal with great service, I have to say I HATED the sales pitch for their loyalty club - I felt like I was sitting through a timeshare presentation. Just left a bad taste in my mouth.

The evening started out well. The service was good, cocktails yummy, oysters were okay, spinach salad was good. Then came the steak. I ordered beef tenderloin medallions, medium rare, with grilled shrimp. I got that because it was the only thing that came with shrimp and it seemed safe enough. The medallions were about the size of a fifty cent piece, but thick. The server asked me to cut into them to make sure they were cooked properly. Two were raw, one was overdone. He dashed them off to have them recooked. In the meantime, my husband had his teriyaki top sirloin with potatoes. He was trying to eat slowly but he basically had to eat without me. It took another 12 minutes. The manager came over and apologized. A new plate came out. I cut into these. These were all raw, like they'd tried to cook them too fast so they were dark outside but just raw inside so it was hard to cut through them. The server immediately saw they were raw and cold inside so he took those away and asked if I wanted to try something different. I just ordered a top sirloin too. Thus I got my food more than 20 minutes after my husband got his. Which is always a bummer. The top sirloin was pretty gristly and the fingerling potatoes were quite bitter (or were those MY TEARS?) Now, we'd ordered dessert ahead of time-- a chocolate lava cake that takes 30 minutes. But the sun was coming in hot through the window, and the room was stuffy and I started feeling ill. I don't know if the alcohol on a relatively empty stomach caught up to me or the general sadness of a meal gone wrong, but I suddenly felt nauseous. I told my husband I was going to use the restroom and then going to wait in the car and to have them either wrap up dessert or cancel it. My husband told the server I was ill and not coming back so we needed the bill, and the server said the dessert was coming, and my husband said fine, figuring the guy would wrap it up since he just got told I was ill and not returning. Instead he brought it out on a plate. So my husband just refused it, paid the bill, and left. They did take my meal off the bill. There was a nice view of the lake but the food's nothing to write home about. It was not hard to cook medallions of beef and I could have gone to Raley's, bought medallions, cooked them on the grill at our rental and eaten them in less time than this took. But the service was good until he did the dessert thing. Anyway, I'd definitely choose another steakhouse in Tahoe over this one.

We made reservations to come here for the 4th for dinner. They were a bit slow seating us, but we had stellar views of the lake and fireworks. The service was great, attentive and timely. The portions were large, the good was good but not innovative or stellar in any way. It was well executed but generic a but too American without the flare of an executive chef that's passionate about his craft. Prices were a bit high, but consider the view. The crowed was definitely more mellow and older unlike a lot of the South shore crowed during the long weekend. They have a lawn outside to watch the fireworks as well.

My boyfriend and I came here for happy hour and drinks. They have a great happy hour, good food selection, drinks and prices. The health crunch desert cake was so delicious! I have yet to try anything on their dinner menu so I need to go back and do that. We went on a busy night so it was crowded but the service was still good and prompt. I wanted to sit in an area to see the beautiful views but there was no sunset. My boyfriend and I had a good time so we will definitely be back.

OMG, what could I possibly say that hasn't been said already. This place is fantastic. I"m from out of town so my friends took me here for dinner and it was amazing. We managed to rack up a bill close to $600, which is pretty easy for a party of 4. If you can afford the splurge, this is your place. I uploaded a bunch of pics, so check them out. The salad bar is out of this world, you have to get it with your meal :)

More like 2.5 stars. Service was awesome. BUT food was just okay, therefore the prices are exorbitant. We got the scallops with wasabi mashed potatoes and green beans. The scallops were cooked perfectly, but my biggest issue was the flavor. The mashed potatoes hit you in the face with a crazy wasabi taste that lingers. In addition, the green beans were ALSO flavored with wasabi. Unfortunately all I could taste the whole evening was wasabi. Off balanced. My hubs got the New Wave Surf and Turf (short ribs and scallops). The short ribs were braised really nicely and the demi glace was good. The scallops and mashed potatoes he had was pretty much the same as what was on my plate, minus the wasabi flavor. We were super excited for the lava cake for dessert. When we cut into it...oh. It's over-baked. It was softer in the middle, but no "lava"! That's the best part! We were really happy that we paid with a voucher we got from the hotel, otherwise I would've been very unhappy with how much we would've had to spend for an okay meal. At the end, our sever asked us if we were interested in some "Select Club" thing. I guess Chart House is a chain and has affiliations with various restaurants. When she explained it, she asked where we were from. I told her, "The Bay Area." Then she told me that they're affiliated with The Rainforest Cafe, Bubba Gumps, and Claim Jumpers. Oh goodness. Now it all makes sense.

I came on recommendation from our awesome C.M. Alex, and it was well worth it! Go passed the casinos and up the hill on Kingsbury and you will be treated to elegance that I never knew existed in South Lake Tahoe. The place was busy, so it was a good thing I got a reservation (plug for open table), and we got a nice table next to the window so we can see the views of the mountains and sunset. Service was top notch, and we got to take our menu home since it said congratulations on our new marriage (again, score another one for open table to let me add that we got married on the reservation). They have an extensive wine list, but we stuck with water that night since we had our own bottle of wine to return to our room to (corkage fee here is $20!). Started with the soup sampler of lobster bisque (EXCELLENT!), gaspacho (I enjoyed, but the wife not so much), and a wonderful clam chowder that had some hint of cinnamon, which was different and quite nice. Out came the entrees, and they were kick-ass! I know, you don't think kick-ass at an upscale restaurant, but that's what came to mind. The wife had the Mixed Seafood Grill, which was a dynamite crab cake that was filled with crab and not overly breaded, seasoned salmon which was good, but not blown out of the water (hahaha), and some plump shrimp scampi with a side of what the waiter said was garlic mashed potatoes but I didn't taste any garlic. My entree was the New Wave Surf & Turf, which was a decent sized piece of short ribs in red wine demi-glace, (SCRUMPTIOUS!!!) perfectly seared scallops in ginger soy sauce (AMAZINGLY paired, but not the biggest scallops I've had) and also with the mashed potatoes. We both enjoyed our meal to that point, but the star was dessert: Bring on the angels, the MOOOOOLLLTENNNNNN LAAAAVAAA CAAAAAAKEEE! Right when we placed our order for our meal, the waiter immediately asked if we were interested in the lava cake. We were like why so early? He said because it's made from scratch and it takes 30 minutes to make and bring it out to you. First we said no, but after rereading the menu, and seeing how quickly our meal was going, my wife wanted it. I've learned early, happy wife, happy life, and boy was she happy! Warm, delectable, chocolate cake, bursting with godiva liquer in the lava and melted chocolate, and topped with vanilla ice cream AND crushed heath bar pieces. This was one of THE best desserts I've ever had. If you come here, and they ask you if you want the lava cake, don't let your server finish the sentence, just get it! Best meal I've ever had in Tahoe, which isn't saying all that much because Tahoe hasn't always treated me well, but this meal definitely ranks in the top 5 meals I've ever had PERIOD!

Holy Happy Hour! Growing up in Tahoe, the Chart House was one of those special event places my parents went to and left us with the babysitter. As I got older I continued to think they until I found out about their happy hour. There are some food and drink specials, food is similar to a Tapas deal. There are quite a few good options to chose from. Happy hour is limited to weekdays and non-holiday options as you would expect in Tahoe. Now maybe one day I'll try them for a special occasion...

I went here twice for happy hour and in love with the food. Ahi nachos, Kim chi calamari and more. Gonna have to try their dinner menu next time.

Awesome service. Kaitlyn the hostess was very accomodating. Blake the bartender went out of his way to make speciality drinks for my wife. Courtney our server was amazing, she gave great reccomendations for wine and food choices. She was very personable without being intrusive. Charthouse made our anniversary dinner very memorable. Btw the duck potstickers and lobster bisque was amazing.

Been coming here for years and it's always consistently good. We came last night and had another great dinner. Flat iron steak is delicious and you get a good size portion of steak. My son had salmon and is never disappointed! I had chicken romano and it was very tasty. Try the happy hour sometime! Great appetizers and view for a great price!

Another awesome dinner at the Charthouse. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We had the prime rib. It was great. Our waitress was very attentive and took care of anything we needed. We were able to sit at a table that overlooked the lake. A beautiful view along with great food.

So, we are staying at The Ridge on Kingsbury grade and are offered a $75 coupon for the Chart House after listening to a timeshare spiel. We go there on a Tuesday during happy hour. Wow, what a great food menu for happy hour! Sashimi nachos with wasabi / siracha sauce, truffle fried combo of french fries/sweet potato/plantain, prime rib sliders. Long story short, the bill was so little that we saved the coupon to return on Thursday the same week! Thursday evening arrives and we are greeted by a young female hostess. We are a little early so she suggested that we enjoy some happy hour appetizers before actually being seated for dinner. We ordered fried calamari and the sashimi nachos from the happy hour menu. Before it arrives we are guided to our dinner table. Beautiful view of Lake Tahoe Our waiter, very efficient and friendly, has been at the Chart House for 15 years. He seems so familiar perhaps due to his friendliness and expertise. He introduces the new menu items and suggests wines as well. Appetizers from the bar arrive at our table. We order skirt steak and surf and turf, short ribs and scallops and a chopped spinach salad. Everything was savory and delectable. This place would receive a 5 star review had the wait staff in the bar acknowledged us and bussed the table we were standing next to before ordering the appetizers. We had to go back to the hostess at the front entrance and inform her that there was an empty table in the bar area we could be seated at for happy hour prior to being seated in the dining area. She quickly informed the bar staff and had the bar area table cleared. However, the bar staff should have already noticed us standing next to the table and cleared the table. All in all, a very good experience only slightly tarnished by the lack of attentiveness by the bar staff.

Up here from the Bay Area with 8 friends. Right away the ambiance and decor of the chart house grabs you as an established upscale restaurant. Jenifer our server had a very composed, professional yet fun attitude. Jenifer knew the entire wine and dinner menus and proved to be very attentive throughout our entire dinner. All our dishes were cooked to perfection. The drinks were great. Between the many sea food and stake dishes you really can't go wrong eating at the Chart House. I'm looking forward to my next meal here.

Chart House has been a tradition in my family since I was a child and they had one back in the Bay Area (many, many moons ago). We've made it our special place for big events and celebrations; good grades in school, before my brother deployed for Afghanistan, my husband and my honeymoon, and our anniversaries ever since. This past week we went to celebrate our last vacation before our baby arrives-so we had to indulge! The weather was off (obviously nothing Chart House could do about that) but it was just clear enough to make out the lake. Our waiter was amazing-full of energy, life and fun! My husband ordered the Scallops Italia (it was a special that night), he said the scallops melted in his mouth and were just perfect. I...well, I went all out-I had the 10oz prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes and a side of sizzling mushrooms (hey, I'm pregnant). I did share some of my meal with my husband because there was waaay too much. Everything came out piping hot and perfect! We did place our order for the Hot Chocolate Lava Cake (which now they also offer to put a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup in the middle and sprinkle on top for just a $1 or so more)-uh yeah, we went for it! So delish! Always amazing! We look forward to celebrating many more memorable moments at Chart House in the years to come!

Happy hour was good! I recommend the lettuce wrap and sliders! The downside of my experience was #1---there were termites right by our table. For fine dining restaurant, it's really disappointing to find that right next to your table. #2 service was confusing. If you're there for happy hour, better order everything you want on the first round since the server won't care about getting your second round of orders.

Celebrated our one year wedding anniversary here. Chart house has always been a must eat at restaurant whenever we visit tahoe. It never disappoints. We had Alex as our server. She was wonderful! Funny, personable, friendly!! Food, as always, to die for!!! We had the crab cake appetizer and duck egg rolls. Both very good but the crab cakes were orgasmic!!! Could have eaten a dozen!!! We also shared a Cesar salad and prime rib with creamed spinach on the side. They were so nice to split all of it for us (and also gave us a little bit more since we were splitting). Unlike so many restaurants these days, they don't charge a split plate fee. Left feeling very full and satisfied. Dreamed about my dinner that night!!! Thank you Alex for impeccable service!!! Can't wait for our next vaca to tahoe!!

Outstanding food! Amazing service! Great atmosphere. Meghan and Brad took care of our group of 21 with the ease of a crew of four. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience in Tahoe. Everyone raved about the whole dinner and the Lava Cake is INSANE! We will be back!

We came to celebrate our dear friends 10th wedding anniversary and if I could give 10 stars I would! Chris was our server and very helpful and friendly. He didn't blink and eye when he saw the 2 kids at our table. Instead he offered some crayons and even engaged in conversation with them. We were seated promptly and had a beautiful view of Lake Tahoe at sunset. I don't care for seafood, so when I saw only one chicken dish, I was a little bummed. I had no reason to be bummed because my chicken dish was BOMB.COM!!!! We ordered sizzling mushrooms, a creamed spinach that was to die for, fall roasted veggies and it was plenty to share with everyone at our table. My husband had the stuffed shrimps which he loves all save the risotto (which was more like a rice pilaf) we pre ordered the special chocolate cake and we all shared it. It was warm and gooey and delicious!!! Overall, it was perfect evening with our friends and their kids. The restaurant can't take credit for the kids at our table having excellent manners, but it's worth noting that it's a kid friendly spot. They even have a child's menu for them. Last, for the elders, it is a steep grade climb from the 2nd parking lot, so drop the babies and grandparents off up at the top first.

We came here for happy hour after hearing the raves reviews about the food at Chart House. We expected the food to be equivalent to that of Flemings, because Flemings has the best happy hour around, and both the Chart House and Flemings are pricey quality steakhouses. We were very disappointed with all of the plates we got, as well as the drinks which were rather weak. The reason I mentioned Flemings, is that the food and drinks are so amazing at Happy Hour, that it makes the customer want to do be a repeat customer and come to dinner, or one of the brunches to check out the entrees on the menu.

We had a great experience at this dinner location! A little on the spendy side but the food was great. Our waitress was very friendly and made sure we had what we wanted but was not bothersome. Being April and off season was not to busy but we Made reservations anyway as it was recommended. If coming during busy season would recommend making reservations for sure!

The Chart House is elegant dining made better by being in one of the most beautiful mountain settings on earth. I've been here three times now, and each dining experience either matches or surpasses the previous one in overall food quality and amazing service. My latest occasion for a dapper dinner on the mountain was to celebrate my first wedding anniversary. We were tempted to try something new, but considering the few truly classy, non-touristy dining options in South Lake Tahoe, we decided to play it safe and go with an old favorite. We arrived just as the sun was setting and were seated in a large booth where we could sit side-by-side and watch the sky melt into a million colors before our eyes. If there's any pro tip you should take away from this review, it's to make sure you reserve a table around sunset and specify that it be near the big bay windows. Our meal, as always, was fantastic. We feasted like kings. Our order (which was clearly more than we could eat) included a trio of soups (their famous clam chowder, lobster bisque and gazpacho), a trio of hummus dips, fresh hot bread, a risotto, spinach dip, and a fancy cob salad. My entree was the seared ahi tuna on a bed of mashed potatoes with a plate-licking wasabi glaze. It is, hands down, the best ahi tuna I've ever had in a restaurant, with two big cuts of ahi steak seared and seasoned to perfection. The only downside is that they do try and sell you to become a member of their rewards club and receive rewards points by eating at any of the restaurants in their company. We declined as the two in our area, Esquire Grill and McCormick & Schmick's, aren't places we ever go to. The waiter wasn't pushy though and it was a brief interruption.

I love the chart house in Monterey so for our Tahoe day trip I booked a table for us. We showed up early 5:15 for a 5:30 reservation and were seated immediately! Service was wonderful, staff attentive, manager ever present, staff knowledgeable. We had ordered two of their new menu items as entrees and they were delicious - I had the bass, my friend the salmon - we both had soup, lobster bisque and clam chowder respectively - I preferred the bisque and then we also had the lobster egg roll. Items were timely, well prepared, I like it a bit more heavy handed on the seasoning so that would be my only call out for my bass! I'd recommend showing up right as the sun is setting - views are amazing then - when the sun was directly in front all the curtains were drawn. I'd say 6:45 was the ideal time to arrive.

Every time we come to Lake Tahoe we eat here at the Chart House restaurant. This place is off the hook with great food, great service and great atmosphere. Tonight our server was Matt and he was excellent! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here and we are looking forward to the next time we can come back and do it all over again. The only bummer was we didn't see the 600lb black bear we saw the last time we were here casually walking through the parking lot. Yes, that actually happened!

I had the 10 oz prime rib and my wife had the fish special. The Prime rib was good, but about 1/4 fat, the garlic potatoes had the consistency of wallpaper paste. My wife's fish came with winter vegetables and the entire dish- fish and vegetables was terribly overcooked. The waitress constantly pushed us to order the chocolate lava cake for dessert and, although we said 'no' every time she asked ( at least 15 times), she ordered it for us anyway. When she tried to deliver it my wife stated that we did not order it and, considering she was diabetic, eating that dessert would be dangerous. The waitress then relented and removed the cake from the bill. The bill, including one appetizer, two entrees and two drinks - $100. Way too expensive and very poorly cooked.

I've been to a few of the Chart Houses (SF Bay, Ft. Bragg, etc.) and this is just another on my list. For fine dining, ambience, some place you're going to take someone to impress, this place does not fail. Why do people go to the Chart House? First if you want some place where you can get dressed up, be waited upon attentively, spend some money on some fancy food, then you're going to have this place on your list. First and foremost... it is NOT A STEAK RESTAURANT. Sorry, no matter how you mix it up, this is a seafood restaurant and if you come here wanting cow, you're going to be disappointed. Prime rib? Ugh. However, if you don't mind a good piece of fish, stop on by. Service... you're going to be greeted by the hostess, seated and attended on by a waiter. They're decently good. Yes, you'll get interrupted at inopportune times, so it's not perfect, but they're professional enough to keep the drinks coming, the table clean and make sure you're rarely left wanting. Fish... Order the sea food. They do a pretty good job with slabs of fish meat as the pieces come out seasoned (if that's your cup of joe) and cooked perfectly. The deserts aren't bad and a great finish to the meal. I don't know why people rave about the salad bar, it's a salad bar. But then bunny food was never what I desired from a pricy restaurant. So ultimately why come here? It's the view. It has one of the nicer views for dinner and the setting sun on the sparkling lake makes it memorable for folks who don't call Tahoe home (Gah, just another beautiful day in paradise). Just be aware that if you get there too soon to sunset then you'll go blind and/or heat up. Manipulation of the blinds is great, but it's distracting. Leave the rug rats at home, enjoy the bar and restaurant with the adults. Plenty of seating (booths and tables by the windows) for groups. Have a date you want to impress? Swing on by early to watch the sunset.

We visited Tahoe to celebrate our twins 13th Birthday. We went to the Chart House on their actual birthday so they can experience their 1st grown up meal (not a meal from a kids menu) Everything was just PERFECT! The food was AMAZING, Th service was OUTSTANDING and the view was STUNNING! The only thing I wish was that I didn't have have dizziness issues due to the high altitude in Tahoe. I wish I could have enjoyed our experience here with out feeling like I was going to pass out. :) Thank you Chart House for making our twins 13th Birthday so wonderful and for even making their very own personalized menu :)

Great views. Get reservation before 6p in order to get table with awesome view of winter sunset! Mushrooms were excellent appetizer. Fish especially the blackened salmon as well as the swordfish with buerre blanc sauce with fresh lump crab meat were outstanding. Not sure about the salad bar as it doesn't quite seem to fit the setting (but it appeared most people liked it). I passed on it. Limited desserts..... 2/17/12

Waiters were huge pompous jerks. Group of 8 guys looking for some good steaks got put into a dark corner. We asked politely if we could move or if they had extra light and the response was unpleasant and they gave us a flashlight. Don't waste your time/ money. Food was on par with a outback/ applebees.

Just had Christmas Dinner at the Chart House! Perfect way to celebrate the day. The Chart House has been a Special Occasion restaurant for our family for years. It's been over 10 years since our last visit, but YELP gave us the confidence to expect an amazing time. WOW. From the Stack appetizer, through the New Age Surf & Turf, Citrus Salmon w tempura sweet potatoes and lemon sticky rice to the Lava Cake we were in culinary heaven!!! 18 yr old foodie/connoisseur had his eyes closed and face to the sky with every bite. I had a great margarita and the assistants kept my ice water full through the whole meal (rare). Richard's thorough service, the stellar meal, and the view were well worth the price, considering the alternative of groceries, cooking for hours, serving, eating then cleaning up!!! What a relaxing treat. Thanks to all of you at the Chart House for working on Christmas Day... may you have a blessed 2012!

Heard good things. So I took the girlfriend there for her birthday. I used Open Table to get a reservation. When we arrived, they had special menus printed with Happy Birthday (awesome). The seated us with a window seat that they were great about. Service was great! Food seafood lovers, the menu was the main issue- there was too many choices. Lots of fresh fish, crab, lobster, you name it. We ordered the Crab stuffed mushrooms - cheesy, crabby (in a good way). Onlly complaint- there were only 5, we could have had a meal of them. Next the salad bar and a Crab, Mango, Avo stack. The Salad bar was clean, fresh, and with plenty of options. The stack was gobbled up, it was cool, clean flavors in a nice terrine stack. Dinner - I had the New Wave surf and turf - braised short ribs and soy-wasabi scallops. SOOOO good. I asked why the short ribs were no where else on the menu, they were that good - slooow braised, great sauce. The scallops were well seared and not drenched in the soy-wasabi sauce, that was not too spicy. It was worth $31. Then my partner had the "most ordered dish" according to our waitress - a mac nut encrusted mahi, with mango sauce. Sounds great, until you take a bite. The mac nut also had a peanut sauce that dominated the initial flavor - like soy sauce and Skippy. Not great. Then you actually might taste the ahi, but no. The fish was so bland, it could have been any white fish underneath. The dish had too many components, that it just did not work. Dessert - sweet treats - mud pie and lava cake. The mud pie was awesome and the lava cake chocolaty. Overall service was great, but some dishes are so complex, you miss the flavors of what you want.

So we were told that this is the place to go, it did not disapoint! The bar is small but dinner there was casual and not as stuffy as the rest of the joint. The crab cake was baked (1st time for that) personally I think fried sucks all the time:) The taste was 100% quality. we had the surf & turf..scallops & beef short ribs, which have no bone & tasted like pot roast from HEAVEN! Not to bad on the price considering the high end flavor & location. Do the dessert we didn't but I hear its dynamite! Cheers T-

The restaurant is nice & the views are something you can't beat but I did have a few problems: 1. Had bad mint leaves in both our mojitos, 2. Manager was a little over bearing on the small chit-chat & practically walked me into the bathroom stall when I asked where the bathroom was (lol), 3. Food portions were a little less than what I expected. Overall it's nice, my wife & I enjoyed our food but it wasn't all I thought it would be :(

I have eaten here once and it was wonderful. I had coconut prawns and they were delicious. My husband had a steak and he said it was tender, flavorful, and juicy. This place is expensive but it is worth it. We had a great view of the lake at sunset. I would definitely go here again for special occasions.

for my wife's b-day, i had prime rib and autumn spiced scalop for my wife. prime rib was perfect. medium rare toward more rare part and the order was well served. however, the scalop was little too oily and sweet. other than that chart house never disappointed me again.

Beautiful views, romantic atmosphere, great food, friendly service. Weekend getaway with hubby - no kids - we glad we found this place - as we truly enjoyed ourselves. We started with cocktails - of course, I had to have mine made my way and off the menu..... I ordered the St Germaine, cucumber vodka and cucumber martini - which was really great and made exactly how I ordered it. My husband ordered long island and loved it. We had east meets west appetizer - tuna tar-tar and seared tuna - both were super fresh and very flavorful - plantain chips were great too. We ordered lobster bisque and clam chowder soups that came at perfect time. Both were flavorful and generous portions. Next I got a lump crab cake (I just couldn't really eat any more) and my husband got the filet with lobster tail, one of the night's specials - the filet was super tender and cooked to perfection... the lobster was ok - it was cooked perfectly, but just didn't wow us. My crab cake was great - lots of crab, I might have just added a little salsa or some lemon/garlic aioli in place of the mustard souse - but nevertheless, I really enjoyed it. Finally we finished the meal with the incredible chocolate cake a la mode. It was cooked to order, still warm and super chocolaty, with cocoa nibs and chocolate sauce over it. The nibs gave each bite a little crunch, ice-cream paired great with the cake. Our bill with tax and tip was $200 & worth every penny. Nick, our server, was super attentive, took our order carefully and executed flawlessly. Definitely will come back.

Took some friends out for a special occasion and had a wonderful evening! Our server was attentive and knowledgable. Looking forward to coming back!

this ish right here, this ish right here nucca, this ish right here ...is a nice Fn place to have a meal. a lil shi shi with a touch of swagg. about a mile away from the casinos and all the ma n pa shops. parking is quirky cause its on a hill n shit but not too bad. i suggest ur ass make a reservation unles u definitely got it 'like dat'(which i doubt). the seating staff was friendly but not too 'in' to their guests (prob cause it was busy) but when me and my girl were seated, our waiter, Matt was off da hook! very polite, spoke 'real', had recommendations and was accomidating, hella 'A' for effort. this is definitely a go to spot if ur in South LT! check it out and yelp the hell outta it

My wife and I have been to the Chart House many time and are happy that the food has really improved back to the d days when it was family owned. Make sure that you request table # 1 and ask for either Doug or Sean as your waiter. Please say hi to Phillip the bartender. He poors a great Jack and Coke. Food was perfect. We had Oysters on the Half shell and coconut crispy shrimp. Both were fabulous. For the main course I had the beef medallions and they were done to perfection. So tender I cut them with my fork. The peppercorn sauce was tasty. My wife had the crusted halibut and she thoroughly enjoyed. Tender and flakey she finished the dish which says volumes. Do your self a favor and make sure you enjoy at sunset. No better place to eat in South Shore.

I really enjoy the salad bar here which includes homemade salad dressings. They have a little of everything, including caviar. Prime Rib is always good and fresh fish seems to be flown in daily. The servers have always been polite and efficient. If you get there early enough you will be treated to a nice sunset view.

It was our first time in Tahoe and I figured we needed some spoiling. So what better way to spoil my hunny? A nice steakhouse. Chart house made us feel like VIP's and the food was delicious. We ordered stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and they were gone within minutes. My boyfriend got the New York Strip and I ordered the swordfish. We both ate half because we needed to save room for the Godiva molten lava chocolate cake. I feel like I literally had to be rolled out of the restaurant. The only downside of this place is that its a little hard to find, but we're new in town, it was dark, its no one's fault. This place is definitely worth your money and your taste buds. Whoever said that it tasted like an apple bees is definitely a little crazy.

Even with reservations, we had to wait 20 minutes for our table. I did not complain, nor did I demand any sort of compensation. The GM apologized, she was very nice. We were comp'd 2 appetizers and our corkage fee was waived. Our waiter Doug was fantastic. Our food (Filet Mignon) was absolutely amazing. I would HIGHLY recommend Chart House, and I will definitely make it a mainstay when I come to Tahoe.

My wife and I came here for our 10th wedding anniversary. I had ordered flowers ahead of time. The staff made sure they were at our table before seating us. The view was incredible. Lake Tahoe and the mountains behind it at sunset is breath taking. The staff was perfect. Everyone addressed us by name and wished us well on our anniversary. The meal was excellent. I had the Prime Rib and my wife had the Ahi. Both were done to perfection. Thank you Chart House for a wonderful evening on our special day.

Ate at the Chart House last night with the wifey. We were seated about 5 min after our reservatiom, no biggie as we waited in the bar and ordered drinks while checking out the menu. We split a spinach salad which was very tasty. We both ordered the priciest entrée, a surf and turf combo with filet, lobster tail, and garlic mashed potatoes. And a side of creamed spinach. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted great. All washed down with a nice Syrah recommended by our über-sweet and helpful waittress Cari. Which all made for a somewhat pricey but memorable "date night". Thanks, Chart House!

If price were no option, then I would consider this to be one of the best restaurants in SLT (although, that's not saying much). They have beautiful views of the lake, a very professional staff, and the food is good. Happy hour is great. Landry's, which has a reputation for mediocrity, owns the Chart House chain. This is kind of like a McCormick & Schmick's with a lake view - good, but not great.

So noisy. We knew it would be crowded. But we had a table to the loudest, most a noxious woman. It took forever to get our menus and food. There was some kind of engagement-dinner or party in the next area and they were loud and cheering the while night. If the food wasn't spectacular I would have rated it a 1. Hopefully when you go, the other people eating wont make you have to shout to be heard by your own table.

I'm not sure If the five star review is influenced by the post wedding/honeymoon love train I was riding, but the Chart House more than delivered an exceptional and romantic dining experience. My new husband (not that I had an old one!) made reservations at 7:30 PM. to catch the sunset. The view was just lovely! The restaurant itself is situated up on a hill, looking down onto the lake. It is elegant with a rustic feel, as if it was an extension to the location's natural beauty. What the Chart House is not: stuffy, posh, or embellished, is what makes it work. It's intimate and focused on service and quality. We started off with drinks at the bar. They bartender was swamped but didn't let the pressure get to him. My hubs had a deliciously refreshing mango mojito and I had a nice red barbera. Our waiter was exceptional. I so wish I could remember her name because she deserves a big shout out and thank you. She was accommodating and offered great suggestions to my food restrictions (I don't eat red meat, fish or shell fish and we were at a steakhouse!) and helped us make a wine selection. She checked in on us often and attentively. She is truly are star employee. The food was spectacular. For appetizers we had three types of hummus (traditional, edamame, and spicy roasted red pepper) with artisanal crackers, pita bread and fried plantains; and a coconut shrimp. The spicy hummus had a great kick to it. I had the shrimp and artichoke linguine (with the shrimp on the side) and my love had the stuffed tilapia with crab. The linguine was light and fresh with spinach, tomato, feta, and light garlic butter sauce. It was not heavy and over sauced. We ended our indulgent dinner with...a chocolate lava cake with bits of toffee! I could cry about how damned decadent and yummy this cake was; it was almost pudding-like in richness. We had enough sense to not scarf every morsel down and had our left overs boxed which we enjoyed on our picnic the next day. And the food was just as good as when it was served warm. Now that's a good sign of a great meal.

We went here for dinner last Wednesday (5/1/2013) and were really looking forward to it. I wish it were possible to review the service and the food separately on Yelp. The service was really good and, actually, the salad bar, was fine. My husband and I both ordered the prime rib, though (he the larger portion and me the smaller). Both were unexpectedly tough and flavorless. The waiter asked if we wanted to speak to the manager, but there was no point. In thinking about it, the menu did not cite the meat as being graded "Choice" or "Prime" - that should have been a warning. Perhaps the fish is good, but stay away from the prime rib. We were shocked at how horrible it was...

We went for happy hour and sat in the bar area. For an upscale place they had killer prices for drinks and appetizers. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip, calamari, mahi mahi tacos and bruschetta. I had a virgin strawberry daiquiri and my husband had the Snap Dragon Cabernet. He liked the cab very much. The daiquiri was good, but came with no garnish in a pint glass. All the apps were very tastey. Out of the four tacos were the least impressive. The calamari was perfect! Overall we would absolutely come here again. For the prices, ambiance and view, you can't pick a better date night spot!

This is my fav restaurant in Tahoe!!! The scenery is awesome. I suggest getting a reservation where you can see the sunset... it is soo pretty! Service was great! We were celebrating a birthday, and had notified them in advance. They had printed a special menu, saying Happy Birthday! up top to our friend. The Pupu platter was good! It's on their specials menu for the month. The egg rolls on the platter were filled with chunks of crab, yummy! The grilled shrimp was also good. I wasn't too big of a fan of the fried things that looked like french fries on the platter, but oh wells! The clam chowder is filled with clams and is yummy! Goes well with the bread they serve you. The fish here is awesome! I highly recommend the Blacked Ahi Tuna cooked Rare and topped with Crab. This was the waiter's recommendation and it was absolutely fantastic. Cooked to order. Flavorful, fresh!! I ordered trout topped with relish and shrimp. It was decent... But gosh, the ahi tuna was just amazing! For desert, order the chocolate lava cake in advance!! YUMMY :D They also gave a complimentary mud pie with candle to the birthday boy :D How nice!! I def will come back to this place when I'm in the area!! Go chart house!! Please open one in SF!! LOL

MANY years of driving UP & DOWN Kingsbury piques my interest in Chart House. I finally ventured in. I should have KEPT DRIVING. Atmosphere is GREAT. Wine Selection- VERY HIGH. Staff- irritated about being there. Food- well. . .you DECIDE. . . I ordered Ma-hi, crusted in Macadamia Nuts also featuring a Peanut Sauce and Soy DRIZZLE. The portion of the fish was GREAT- however the JUXTAPOSITION of the STRONG flavor of the bottled peanut sauce GREATLY CONFLICTS with the mild-buttery flavor of the Macadamia nuts. OVERWHELMING. The Soy drizzle was another effort to disguise the flavorLESS fillet. I don't even remember what the sides were. Cost for the meal- PRICELESS. . . meaning there is NO PRICE I will ever pay for a meal there AGAIN- EVER!

Been going there for years. Quality dropping, getting to be typical chain store. Too dark, thought it was just me, but waitress had to pickup candle on table to read my daughters ID. Music blaring, food luke warm, probably sitting on line too long waiting for waitress. Too bad, nice venue. Outback restaurant with a view.

Solid 3.5 - if you plan to go out after a meal from the Chart House.. think twice.. you'll need a nap afterwards.. Everything was soo good, but everything was also very rich and very buttery.. YUM.. GREAT view and fantastic service!

Probably the best chart house location I've been to (out of philadelphia, hobocken, alexandria, san jose, dobbs ferry, savannah, miami, and san diego). I was there during the ski season, so views were breathtaking. Service and food were great.

My wife and I went here for her birthday back in January since she was interested in going here and I believe we also got a gift certificate which further increased our interest in dining at the Chart House. I must say it was a very good meal. My wife got the filet mignon and I went with a tilipia stuffed with crab (it could of been ahi, don't remeber). It was one of the best seafood meals I have ever had, the wife rated her filet mignon right behind ruth chris's steak house. We went at night so we were not able to see the view of the lake everyone talks about and if you have not been up that way before you could get lost, luckily I have passed it a few times and was aware of the location. If you feel like having fine foods and don't mind spending a little dough then I would highly recommend hitting this spot up, you wont be disappointed.

This place wasn't that hard to find. I just followed the directions and there was a sign. I didn't appreciate that the parking lot was icy and a bit of a mess. Salt it or something? The car slid a couple of times. It didn't take long to seat us. We had a party of 7 so we had to wait for them to get us all set up. The waitress was nice and didn't rush us at first. But then took away the drink menu from me, while I was reading it.. We ordered some mango mojitos anyways. And then took away the menu from my father, who was trying to read the wine list, who wanted to order 2 bottles. She never even asked us about which wine we wanted to order. That actually kind of upset us. The salad bar was nice and fresh. I loved the caviar and my uncle loved the anchovies. It was good. I had a couple of plates. We ordered 2 prime rib dinners, ahi, 2 blackened Chilean sea bass, the seafood grill and I just had soup (butternut squash) and the salad bar. We also ordered a few side dishes, risotto, the cream spinach and the mushrooms. Everything was simply amazing. Especially the Chilean sea bass. We got the Chocolate Molten Lava cake, with the ice cream. That was great! Make sure you order it 30 minutes early, they have to bake it! Nice and fresh. So in all, it was good. The food was good. Location was kind of eh. Couldn't see the amazing view because we were there for dinner.. But for a family that loves our wine, that really killed it for us.

The ambiance at the Chart House was good, would have loved to see the view in the daylight. Service was efficient, however the food was very disappointing. We had the scallops and shrimp linguine, both were lacking flavor and quite uneventful. However the lava cake for dessert was divine. Overall the meal was definitely not worth the price and overall experience was disappointing.

The four of us had a wonderful dinner. We started off with drinks and appitizers in the bar. Wonderful service and great Appitizer . Our server Mike was very helpful recommending the perfect wine for our food choices. We sent our compliments to the chef, our food was cooked to perfection. Super dining experience well worth the money.

We came in for happy hour, had the firecracker shrimp, fish tacos, hummus plate, calamari, along with 3 glasses of wine and a martini, The bill was les than $40 and watching the sun set over the lake was included for free. Great value, the server was very friendly. This place is a hidden gem...

We came here for my parents anniversary. Made reservations for 13 people. They sat us near the windows so we had a beautiful view of the sunset on top of the mountains with the lake view...gorgeous. They had "Happy 40th Anniversary" printed on the menu for my parents. The service was great. We had children ranging from 2 years old to 10 years old and they are not a quiet bunch, but it didn't look like the other guest were bothered. They were more bothered by our bright flashing cameras as we had something huge to celebrate. We arrived at 5 and they weren't too busy yet, but an hour later the restaurant became packed. Not sure if it was because people were celebrating valentine's day early or if the restaurant was always this busy. The calamari appetizers were fabulous. You can't really go wrong with this choice. I think we ordered every steak type item on the menu. It was wonderful. Meat is tender and tasty. Seafood was also good. I would come here again.

Consistent. Good. Food. I've eaten at the Chart House in Lake Tahoe about six times and it never disappoints. The large plate glass windows opens to view a pine tree "forest" and a feeling of privacy and seclusion. Their salad bar has a large selection with made to order Caesar salad. I had their prime rib and it was flavorful and tender. For chocoholics, a must is their signature choc lava cake. It takes 30 minutes to prepare, so order with your entree.

My wife and I celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary at Chart House and had made a reservation. We were seated at a nice quite table for two far away from anyone else. It was dark by this point so we really couldn't admire the view. The staff was nice & for the most part attentive. We brought a nice bottle of bubbly and it took the waiter quite a while before he brought out an ice bucket. Note to self, if you see someone carrying a bottle of champagne, this happened to be a bottle of Perrier-Jouët wrapped in their signature silk pouch, get the freakin ice bucket pronto! This has to be enjoyed ice cold. After the waiter brings out the ice bucket, he places the bottle in it and walks away without saying a word. After about 5 minutes, he returns with a towel and opens the bottle. I thought that whole thing was odd. They brought out a basket of bread and savory crackers which were all very stale and inedible really. 1 out of 5 stars. For a starter we ordered a cold seafood salad appetizer that came with clams, mussels, shrimp & squid + three dipping sauces; that was a good dish except it had very stale croutons mixed in with the greens. 3 out of 5 stars just for the croutons, they were that bad but the seafood was spot on. We split a nicely dressed Caesar salad but again, stale croutons. Not as stale as the ones in the seafood app but stale nonetheless. 3 out of 5 stars. My wife ordered the coconut shrimp entree which was served in a giant sea shell formed out of a piece of deep fried rice paper. It was very cool and dramatic; nicely presented but the shell was so greasy you really couldn't eat it. The shrimp were a bit greasy as well. If you're going to go through the trouble of making something so beautiful, it better be perfect; 3 out of 5 stars. I ordered the Prime Rib, medium rare. It came out medium well but closer to well done and looked very dry on the plate. It didn't look very appetizing but at this point it was late and I didn't want to wait any longer for a re-fire. The mash that accompanied the prime rib was really good. I can't stand heavy or gooey (overworked) mash; this was spot on; 3 out of 5 stars. We had a molten lava cake for dessert, that was delicious; 4 out of 5 stars. For a fine dinning establishment, I wasn't all that impressed. Attention to detail is paramount, especially at these prices. BTW, the corkage was $20 so I expect a different class of service at a place like this. Not that memorable so we won't be going back.

Great view of Lake Tahoe from our window seat. I had the prime rib and my girlfriend had the filet - both were excellent. They had a large wine list too. I would recommend especially if at Lake Tahoe.

Meh... While the ambiance was nice, our waiter was less than friendly and our food was nothing I'd recommend. Salad bar was the best part while entree's left something to be desired.

As a long time local, I have been to Chart House many many times. For me, it's always an experience I look forward to. We got the VIP treatment with our names on the menu and a table near a window... Very nice! The quality of the food seems to be holding its own. The salad bar is still a highlight, But this night the service was the problem. We were annoyed that we could see our waiter talking and talking... and talking, when she should have been working & checking on her tables. We were waiting for her to see that we needed something for an unacceptable amount of time. Especially considering she wasn't busy.

During my weekend in Lake Tahoe, Derek S. suggested that we go here for dinner, and of course it was a great choice! And it was very close to where we were staying. Brief Summary LOOK for Chart House sign (Lit up during night) Nice, Upscale Atmosphere Excellent Service Great Food, A little expensive The first thing I noticed about the Chart House was that it's only marked by a sign off Kingsbury Grade/207. If you had no idea what Chart House, you would never even notice the sign really. At night, it's lit up but again you have to keep your eyes peeled. There was plenty of parking. It was a Friday night when we went and we were sat down almost immediately. It seems like a reservation might be almost required for a nice place like this, so I'd definitely recommend it. Our server was very professional and helpful. I loved that she was very attentive and always trying to check on us. She also walked with purpose around the restaurant and made a great delivery/welcome since it was our first time at the Lake Tahoe location. Portions were large as expected so our order for 4 was as follows: Salad Bar Clam Chowder Crab Bisque Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes Filet and Lobster with mashed potatoes The Famous Lava Cake (Order Early - Takes 30 mins) Our server gave us a few baskets of their brown and sourdough rolls with even a type of "everything" crackers. I enjoyed the salad bar. It has great selection and fresh ingredients. Standard vegetables, dressings, ripe fruit, assorted salads, and caviar were there. It's normal price is around $15 but you can get it for half price with your entry. The "award winning" clam chowder was very tasty and had the consistency of more of a potatoe soup than a clam chowder. I guess I was comparing to what I remember about Pismo Beach's Splash Cafe. My filet was cooked perfectly to medium well and the mashed potatoes were good. The meat didn't even need any sauce. The meal wasn't complete and the Lava Cake completed it. It came out hot with ice cream on top and heath bar crumbs on it. It was very delicious and just made the Chart House such a memorable experience. If you're in Lake Tahoe and you want a good experience, I'd come here.

Solid 3.5 stars I've only been here for the happy hour. I think the limited menu has good choices and the price is right. You can catch a great view of a bunch of trees and in the waaaay distance a sliver of the lake because happy hour is only from 4:30 a 6:30 most nights so there won't be any complaints of "it was too dark to see the view". We ordered practically everything off the happy hour menu. The ahi nachos had five pieces of fried wontons topped with tuna and wasabi cream and a spicy sauce. I thought it was yummy. Also yummy was the spicy dynamite Shrimp and the steamed mussels. The prime rib sliders (six dollars for three) were a bit on the dry side for me but all the guys loved them. One huge tomato fan loved the bruschetta, and the fried calamari was unmemorable but they have tentacles which I love. My niece ordered the coconut shrimp off the kids menu and it was coated and fried to perfection. Three of us also got the salad bar which was $18 each which was a bit of a bummer. The salad bar was clean and fresh and refilled often but I kinda wish there was a discount on that for happy hour too. I think if you order a full priced entree you can get the salad bar for $9. Service was nice and attentive. We weren't served by a regular server, more like a manager but it was nice nonetheless. I'd come back for HH If I had some out of town friends who wanted to eat at some place like this.

The food flavor was about 3 stars. The fillet had good flavor and was cooked as ordered. The experience I (we) had was not the best hence the 2 stars. Update: I received an apology from the Social Media manager from Landry's Inc....It was nice to see that my experience at this establishment was/is not the norm and not acceptable at least to the LNY. All I can say is that the Chart House is a franchise/chain restaurant which if you like consistent food (note McDonald's invented serving the exact same food no matter where in the world you go) and calculated prices this place is for you. For me, not so much. It does have a nice view.

Chart house was very good! I thought the salad bar was a bit tacky but the trio of soups was a great idea. The gaspacho was phenomenal. Between three of us we had two steaks and the seabass. The steaks were cooked perfectly to order and very tasty. The seabass was decent, nothing to write about. The service was very informative but drinks took a while to get. The server seemed to be very anxious for us to leave even though they closed at 9 and we walked out at 9:15. They did call us a cab because the location is far off the strip. Overall, very good experience.

We've (my husband and I) have been here 3 times and each time we have been happy with the service, food, and atmosphere. We had a view each time, were treated wonderfully, had great food, and enjoyed a lovely time. Next time we make it up that way and have a child-free evening, we will definitely go again!

Went to dinner with ABHOW Wednesday and Thursday nights. If I were a restaurant critic here in South Lake Tahoe, these would be my ratings: KALANI'S - 5 Stars...@ EDGEWOOD RESTAURANT - 3.5 Stars. So, if you're ever in Tahoe,@ THE CHART HOUSE and@ KALANI'S are your best bet! Both are pricey, but well worth the money.

Expected a more from a Chart House restaurant particularly given the price. We had the filet, medallions and shrimp scampi all of which were just OK and a little lacking in flavor. The highlights were the sides of mashed potatoes and mushrooms and the ginger margarita was excellent. Even the Cesar Salad left a better impression than the main courses. Stay away from the heirloom tomatoes side as it's just a salad with diced heirloom tomatoes in it (strange).. The physical layout of the restaurant takes the best possible advantage of the view, which is fantastic. The service was good until it go closer to closing time at which time we were made to feel very unwanted. Just an OK experience with a big price tag. I don't recall other Chart House locations being this disappointing.

Sooooo glad i saw this place on the way to our place we were staying at this past weekend in Tahoe! I haven't been to the chart house since the one in half moon bay closed! I had to go and bring my friends! We went at about 8pm on friday night with no reservation and got seated right away. Everything looked and smelled great! Our server was awesome as well, me and my girlfriend seemed to notice that females servers in general are a lot better than the males ones. Just from our experience anyways. We had a nice glass of rosy that she recommended which was great and i went in for my fav meal! STEAK and LOBSTER! yummmmy! Everything was great, i think the lobster was just a tad small but delicious. My girl also got a lobster soup and my bff and his girl got clam chowder. They all seems to love it and my soda was kept full pretty much the whole time! After, we both finished everything off with the godiva lava cake! It was wonderful!

Came here for dinner with my wife and the food was good. Had a special, filet mignon medallions with crab stuffed shrimp. The service was fair however it took a while to get drinks delivered and get our bill delivered. Overall, it met expectations for a solid meal and fours stars, however the service experience kicked it down to three.

I've seen people give this place 3 and 4 stars. I'm giving it 5 and it all because of my waiter. My gf and I were up visiting and we met Ryan when we went for dinner and he was amazing. Seriously a perfect waiter. He knew everything front and back, made great suggestions and he checked back to make sure everything was going well periodically through out the meal. He made the meal very nice and because of him we plan on returning when we come back to Tahoe. If you're eating at Chart House, make a reservation, and ask to be seated in Ryans section. You will love it. To Ryan: Thanks man, we both really appreciate your hard work and we'll be back to see you.

We had dinner here on new years eve and it was amazing. The food was great, the views of lake tahoe were breathtaking and the staff was very helpful and attentive without being annoying. They also managed to get us a cab on a night where cabs were nearly impossible to get. Also- dress code says "dressy" but its more like "mountain town dressy" i.e. plenty of people in jeans.

Had dinner there Saturday night 730 pm. 40 minute wait worth it but I found out they take reservations now. Excellent sirloin steak and shrimp. Nice salad bar. Service was great. It's much improved since last visit 10 years ago.

Service was good. Had the bronzed swordfish, it was ok. The best part was the crab meat on top. The clam chowder was excellent and the lava cake was super yummy! I'd like to see more creativity in the dishes... Just a lot of safe entrees. Overall, good experience.

Wonderful & delicious! Excellent service from our waiter Russ. The bread was served warm. We selected the Coconut Prawns as our appetizer followed by the Filet Mignon and the Citrus Salmon. Both entrees were scrumptious! We Absolutely recommend the Chart House for a fine dining experience!

Walked in with a party of 12-6 adults+5 kids. At first, they thought it would not work, then they went to see what they could do. They set us up and we had a nice dinner. Salad was great, steak was good and big. No room for desert as I was too full which is good and bad as i wanted the Mud Pie. Will return whenever in Tahoe

  • J M.

Very uninspiring. 8 of us ate here, after making a reservation. It seems since the gratuity is already added to parties of 8 or more, that the service goes out the window. Service was pathetic at best. Drinks were bought out at random intervals, plates were cleared before other people had finished at the table and the general upsell on everything was like upsizing at McDonalds....."What, are you sure you dont all wants appetizer's? .... "What, no deserts?" yet our waitress still managed to plonk the bill down and walk away despite checking if we wanted another round of drinks to finish dinner with. We did. We ordered and paid separately for them after settling our check. By the way the swordfish was dry, portions were small, lighting dim and carpark icy. Wouldn't bother ever going back - it reeked of averegeness!

I've been a Stateline local for 20 years. Used to go to the Chart House a couple times a year, but found the prices far exceeded the quality of the food and service......so we stopped going. It's been at least 6 years, but we went back a couple of weeks ago for their happy hour. Very pleasantly surprised. Great prices, excellent server and good drinks/food. A bargain and views to boot. Looked at the regular menu and prices seemed much more competitive than I remembered. Will have to go back soon.

After touting up the Chart House for several days during a family trip to Tahoe, to my adult children and 70-year-old mother, I was left very disappointed, ill and frankly a bit embarrassed that I'd spoken so highly of an establishment that seems to have become incredibly lackadaisical in it's approach to any remote semblance of professionalism &/or pleasing it's patrons. We were seated promptly at a very nice table with a view, but it took forever for a server to come take our order, and bring two of us our plated salads, as the other two in our party opted for the salad bar. Upon dropping the salads, our server immediately disappeared, and after waiting amply for any employee to come by in order to ask them to hail our server back to our table for more dressing, I finally elected to venture to the salad bar on my own to obtain some more bleu cheese dressing for my mother's salad. We ran out of butter, no server; we ran out of bread; no server; we emptied our water glasses; no server. My son's prime rib was, without any exaggeration, at least 50% inedible fat, so we sent it back when the server DID ultimately appear. She eventually did return with a much better cut. My daughter's fillet Mignon was so undercooked that it also required a revisit to the kitchen. It also eventually came back correct the 2nd time. My mother's baked potato tasted as if it had been sitting around in a heated drawer for ages, not even measuring up to one served at Harrah's Forrest buffet the previous night. We needed more ketchup; however, by the time it was brought to the table, we were finished with dinner. After we were through dining, there were dirty plates and food droppings left on the table. The ramekin I brought the bleu cheese in remained on our table throughout our entire lava cake dessert. There was barely any ice in my soda, all of which had melted by the time our dinner was initially served. Overall, a poor dining experience at any price, and even more so, given Chart House prices. Lastly, after all of the mix-ups mentioned above, our table was NEVER ONCE visited by management!! Amazing, if inexcusable for a several-hundred dollar dinner debacle... After dinner, & immediately upon returning to the Marriott Grand Residence, my mother became ill with protracted dysentery which continued until the morning. My son and I also suffered even worse with the same symptoms the following morning, requiring five stops on our way back to the San Francisco Bay area. I ingested nearly half a bottle of Imodium, but remained miserable for nearly 24 hours. I heard about a romaine lettuce recall and wondered if this may have been the culprit of my entire family's illness(?) On the day previous to our Chart House experience, we dined at Heidi's for an inexpensive, casual breakfast and had the most attentive, pleasant & professional service one could imagine (our server was Aline) - an entire world apart from the service the four of us endured at our $250 (inc tip) dinner. I simply can't imagine, given this country's present economy and the talent pool that remains currently unemployed, how a house like this could hire /employ such unprofessional / untrained service. It really speaks incredibly poorly for a company like Landry's, which oversees many fine dining establishments. My attempt at posting the above review on Open Table, where I'd made our reservation, was declined, with a reason given as: "we (Open Table) do not allow for the allegation or discussion of liability issues. Your mention of becoming ill fits this description." I also included a note in the OT review which went directly to management, but never heard back from them, which is not a surprise. Needless to say, I will no longer be using that company to book dining reservations..
