We were in the area visiting the White Sands National Monument, looking for a place to eat within 30 miles. Looking for Mexican restaurant in Alamogordo on yelp, couldn't find anything I liked based on the reviews... This place was just about 30 miles from the White Sands, thinking we wanted to come back to the White Sands before the sunset, we weren't sure if the drive was too long. So glad we decided to try this place. I really like the decor inside. Attention to the details, you will notice on nice design on small places you didn't think before. Shredded beef Sopaipillas with green chili tasted like very much New Mexican food, and their green salsa was so good I couldn't stop eating chips Very friendly service, good good, nice decor... I would highly recommend trying this restaurant.

FINALLY! Hubby and I moved to Alamogordo from Dallas Tx, and have been searching for the best Tex- Mex restaurant. We have finally found it! As if weary travelers in a strange land...this place was an oasis to us lol. I took pictures of what we ordered, the appetizer sampler platter, the three choice combo platter and the four choice combo platter. We are looking forward to left overs tomorrow lol. Also the green salsa is the bomb! Everything we are here was superb. :-)

Oh wow, what a find. We drove from Capitan to eat here. Was not disappointed at all. I do believe we found a restaurant that we will be back time after time. The service was good. The people were super friendly and the store was clean. The food? Just amazing. Wife and I ordered the pork chops and stuffed shrimp rellenos. OMG! They were so great. Have to say that the pork chop was over cooked to our liking, but was still good. For dessert we ordered flan. It was fantastic. We will return.

I absolutely love this place. My family and I come here as often as we can. Worth the drive from Alamo. Great ambiance and service, not to mention the food is awesome.

Casa De Suenos is the gem of Tularosa! We spent our day skiing up in Ruidoso, NM and we had worked up quite an appetite throughout the day. Yelp suggested Casa De Suenos in Tularosa during the drive home. What a choice! The restaurant is beautifully decorated with Moon/Sun light fixtures, art and it even has a cute little gift shop in the front corner of the restaurant. We ordered some gifts for our relatives in the shop at the front of the store. I would highly recommend trying the stuffed sopapillas. Make sure to get both green and red chile on top. One is spicy and the other is a bit sweeter. Remember this is New Mexico style food! Be prepared for some differences! Grab a margarita while you relax here. They are wine based and come in many colorful flavors.

This place is awesome. We stopped for lunch while vacationing in Southern New Mexico. There were 4 in our party. We tried 4 different versions of their enchilada dinners. They were absolutely perfect. All 4 had their own distinct flavors. And the sides were just right. Definitely will make this a top spot to eat next time we're in the area.

Great authentic New Mexican fare. Both green and red salsa are spicy hot and beware and we love New Mexico green chili. Service staff were nice and very prompt.

I'm not sure what planet most the people that rate the place with good authentic Mexican food come from. Sorry I'm not impressed and I've done it three different times in 10 years.

This is our usual lunch/dinner spot when we're in the area. Nicely located between Cloudcroft and Ruidoso. Great service, tasty food, what's not to like? Our most recent visit was this past weekend. They were hosting a reception so the place was more full than usual, but the service and food were still awesome.

I am a long time customer at Casa de Suenos...and believe that Casa is the best Mexican food in the Alamogordo/Tularosa/Ruidoso area. Last weekend, I had a family reunion with a dozen people from Oregon, Virginia, and North Carolina. Casa de Suenos catered the gathering. I got cheese and chicken enchiladas, carne adovada, tortillas, beans and rice with several condiments. The food was amazing and all my guests were extremely impressed. The portions were generous and costs reasonable. I recommend the restaurant without reservation. Thank you Casa de Suenos for helping make the reunion a success!

Best Mexican food in this whole Alamogordo/Tularosa/Ruidoso area!!!! I'm almost convinced all of the Land of Entrapment. Honestly my number 1 in go to restaurants in all of Alamogordo. I heard a lot about this spot from co-workers and after finally trying it, I frequent it regularly!! It's a little bit of a drive from the ghetto of Alamo but always worth it. All of the Mexican restaurants in Alamo are put to shame because of this one, I'll never eat at another one here, "Casa de" is my only option now. The staffs always hard working and friendly. I've never once left this place not overly full. I usually hate over eating but can't resist at this place. Both the red and green salsa are a satisfying heat. I always order some Chili con Queso too and make it the Salsa Tri-Force. I gorge myself with chips which they always keep generously full on the table. Never once have I had to ask for more, the staffs always asking you or just bringing them out without asking (I love it!!). My go to menu items have been the Stuffed Soapapillas and the Chimichanga. I've had 2 different meats but more of a chicken guy for Mexican food. Also green chile over red any day. Next time I'm gonna be adventurous and spice it up ordering "Christmas style." I've never once had room for the sweet Soapapilla for dessert. I ate here for lunch just a few days ago and wasn't even hungry for dinner.

Taco salad, pork chops with Chile, prickly pear margaritas have been recommended to me.

Good food, great white chocolate bread pudding! Good service & friendly staff. Margaritas are only blended & made with agave wine , thus a 4. Beer list was good.

Friendly staff, good food and great prices make this place a must stop! They bring chips to your table with both red and green chili salsas. They were prompt with the refills and the atmosphere is awesome. My daughter loved her quesadilla and I loved the fried avocado appetizer. The tamales were good and plentiful. We had leftovers which is a rarity for us.

Hot hot hot sauce, large portions, great chips, cold beer. It's a small town with a really tasty restaurant , stop, you won't be disappointed

  • Mary C.

Their sauce is WAY too hot. They used to offer both medium and hot sauce, but that option is no longer available. They now only serve hot sauce. I used to go there frequently, but since they stopped offering the medium sauce, I can no longer to back, which is too bad because I had always thought it was the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Several of my colleagues have also experienced the same situation and no longer eat there. Please bring back the medium sauce option!

For this local restaurant in comparison to any other option within 50mi of Alamogordo this is one of few options to consider for food. Each time we've eaten here it's constant and good. Service is quick, prompt and friendly. Food is always hot, fresh and good. We've had the fajitas, pork chops, salad, guacamole, fried taco rolls, queso and its all good. I love their green chili salsa, it's delicious. We go on avg 2-3 times a month. Also, for a large party or squadron event this place is one of very few that can properly handle an event and not screw it up.

Really enjoyed the sopapilla and the fresh salsa as welcome respite on a drive across the desert. Good service and some people who know how to cook.

THIS FOOD IS AMAZING. True authentic New Mexican food. This is a must try if around the area. Good service as well, it's definitely not a quick wait though (but it's WELL worth the wait).

  • Kim P.

This place rocked my socks. I had a pork chimichanga and it was the greatest thing I've ever experienced. Amazing salsas with warm tortilla chips. The beans and rice weren't my favorite but where they lack in the rice and bean department they make up for in everything else. There service is quick and attentive. The min we had 3 chips left in our bowl she was over with more. It's a little cramped. But cosy the chili con queso isn't really anything to rave about but with a little bit of that red salsa in it its amazing. All around wonderful place there are even some local old lady's that play cards in the restaurant so you know people are nice.

Best Mexican I have ever had, hands down. As with what others have said, try the fried avacados! Atmosphere is nice, with a nice Southwestern feel. The Chili Rellonos is awesome, lightly fried and the batter is tasty, after a meal here you don't feel wieghted down. A red and green salsa with the chips, the guacamole is tasty. Free sopapillas and honey, which also go's well with the chips and salsa. I took my parents here for dinner when they visited and before they left they wanted to go back again. It's also very reasonably priced.

The trip from clovis to Tularosa is one I take frequently and I always find a way to stop here, truly the best Mexican food in the state.. Never fails to impress, red sauce is hot, but man up its delicious, if your passing through or can take a detour on your trip do it!!

Smothered fried chicken was good, wait was pretty brutal and the service was up and down.

Just perfect. What can I say about this place that haven't been said. Anything and everything is right on point. From the service to the price. You can't beat it.

    (5)
  • Zariena D.

The decor is amazing! Plenty of eye catching things to look at. The chips and salsa was good! We also enjoyed the sopapillas with honey! We paid about $30 for 2 people and a toddler so it was very affordable. Our only gripe was that our churro dessert was only enough for 1 person (the toddler) for $5 we were hoping it was something we could all share.

  • Rachel O.

My favorite place to eat when I come home. The food is authentic and fresh! I usually have a stuffed sopapilla that never disappoints. My aunt always orders the chili rellenos and loves them every time. The service is great but a little on the slow side. Definitely recommend!!

  • Karla D.

The BEST Mexican food that I have had in the entire Otero County. You must try their fried avocado. I do not even like avocado but LOVED this dish. I was very surprised to find the Mexican food in New Mexico was very bland but NOT at this place. I also really like the quirky and creative items they have for sale by the register.

  • Lloyd R.

Best Mexican food in the area! The food it good, fresh and quick. The salsa is spicy, which is excellent, very hard to find that in this area. The interior of the restaurant is clean, well kept, and decorated. If you're in the area, definitely stop by and have a meal. The sopapilla at the end is a pleasant surprise!

CA tourist: Great place: food was awesome, good service, and they had ice cold beer...def deserving of the 4 1/2 stars that's it's earned. Recommend this place and I will comeback when I'm on this side of town.

  • Julia M.

Definitely our all time favorite local place for dinner. Our 2 year old even likes it and she doesn't like much of anything!! We go here like 3 times a month! Staff is always great and food is awesome!!

  • Candace S.

This was a nice place to go (by Alamogordo standards). The chips and salsa were excellent! The combo enchiladas were pretty good, but the red sauce was super spicy! (And I enjoy really spicy thai food.) The shredded beef here is awesome..whatever you get, get the shredded beef in it! I would give it 3.5 stars

I tell you what, this place deserves all the praise it can get. I've been here twice and the food is just exceptional. I've eaten at a lot of Mexican food restaurants in my life. This is above almost all I've ever tried. Be sure to ask for the green salsa to go with your chips. Both the red and green are top notch. Spicy, hot, and served with good crispy chips. I had to nearly have a skin graft on the lining of my mouth to replace all the skin cells cauterized off after their salsas! Talk about top notch spicy. Not just hot, but flavor-filled. You will need to bring with you two large quart sized Mason jars when you come to this restaurant. Both MUST leave (trust me) with the red chili chicken pasole. It is way over the top freaky good. Not exaggerating, just stating the truth. My mom and step dad go here with two one quart Mason jars on a regular basis and fill them up. The red chili chicken pasole is perhaps the most complex spice dish I have ever tasted. I asked the manager about it. He commented it changed and evolved over time with varying kitchen managers, keeping the best aspects from each manager. And how! I just can't say enough good about it. If you get nothing else, get this dish. Stop what you are doing, get your butt off the couch, and get some of their red chili chicken pasole. Is is simply sublime. Not recommended, but REQUIRED eating. Just do it. We ordered an appetizer platter that had fried cream cheese jalapeños, beer battered fried avocados, mini flautos, and small chimichangas. We enjoyed every bite. There was nothing left of the appetizer. Recommended. My step dad and I both ordered the pork steaks rubbed with red chilis. I tell you what, this was absolutely delicious. They took two massive thick juicy pork chops (steaks really) and rubbed them with some kind of mystical red chili combination, then grilled them to perfection. Just divine. The atmosphere is clean standard fun nice New Mexican atmosphere. Roomy place. I really can't say enough good about Casa de Suenos. If you haven't eaten here, you haven't lived. Seriously.

For those of you who don't speak Spanish, the name translates as "House Of The Best Meal I Ate On My Road Trip." How appropriate! Spiciness is subjective and all, but to help I'm the type of guy who typically orders "Thai Hot" at places and still doesn't find it that hot. And that said, the green salsa here had my tongue on fire, and honestly with the taste of it I wasn't sure I wanted to put it out. I've never felt that way about chips & salsa before. Christmas enchiladas followed up, and Santa obviously read my list. Then, after all of this, the question: "would you like sopaipillas?" More than anything on this earth. All served in a beautiful back room with a setting sun highlighting the colored curtains of the dining room. Less a dinner than a mythical experience. Seriously, everything about my time here was perfect. I went to Chope's in La Mesa the following night, and L&J in El Paso the day after that, and those places are supposed to also be perfect, but truthfully I couldn't get excited with them. But I think that's less a concern about their quality and more a comment on just how fantastic Casa De Suenos is. Have I convinced you yet?

It might be the best restaurant in Alamogordo, NM. But, that doesn't mean much ;)))) However, the food is good. With the exception that the beef was over cooked.

Great food, clean/cute restaurant and always great service! I could live on their chips and salsa. There's not a lot of options in this area but this is one of my husband and I's top 3 "go to" restaurants in the Alamo/Tulie area.

  • Zach R.

Really great service. Nice, comfortable atmosphere. The food is top notch; spicy but not too overwhelming. The staff was super friendly, and the food came out quick, and really well prepared. Very delicious, fresh ingredients. Everything was so tasty. The Sopapillas were incredible, as was the rest of our meal. Highly recommended. My go-to place for Mexican food in Alamogordo/Tularosa!

I grew up in New Mexico and love hot Mexican food. I have also prepared Mexican dishes in my own kitchen so I know what NM Mexican food is supposed to taste like. This place nails it! The service was fast and friendly. The prices are right. The menu is unique and complete. They also start you off with red and green salsa both are excellent and have the right heat. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Restaurant of the trip. After a nice hike, the Dad takes the GF and I here. The Dad's GF likes this place too. The place has a great Mexican feel; along with great decor. Not to dark and not to lite, it was lit perfectly. On the right side of the entrance, they had the typical little trinkets you find at flea markets. Once again, nice. The place was fairly empty as being it was a weekday afternoon. I'm sure it gets busy in the evenings and more so on the weekends. The waitress drops off the chips and dip. I can't wait to get into that, especially, other then seeing the Dad, the chilies are the other main attraction to New Mexico. This place delivered. Both the Green and Red salsa was booming. For me, neither were hot, but of the two, the Green had more kick. Just enough to make you breathe in a bit, but not bad at all. When in a different town, I like to taste regional food. What caught my eye was the Beef Stuffed Sopaipilla. I love trying new foods!! Give it to me and give me both Red and Green Chili on it. I'm there dude!! Rice and beans? Sure!! And a beer!! I'm living it large. The GF got the Albondigas, she kept it simple and safe. Quite honestly, I think those dishes do get bypassed. My dish was amazing. I was loaded with the chili and cheese. When you cut into the Sopaipilla, the beef was perfect. Then mixed with the chili, cheese, rice and bean, made for a pleasurable meal. Yes, even spooned in some of the green salsa on the rice. I was in heaven. The Waitress asked if we were ready for dessert and normally we don't do it. When she mention it was a traditional Sopaipilla, I couldn't pass. She dropped off these little pastries and then said to pour honey (which was on the table already) on them. OK! Another piece of heaven. The GF loved her soup, not to salty, which is pretty common for the soup. We can't wait to come back to try again. You definitely made an impression on us.

Excellent Mexican food! Lindsey provided great service, was friendly, and cared for us well. Steaks were delicious and I recommend the steak with habanero sauce.

  • F. S.

Mediocre at best. Went there once a few years ago and thought the tacos were pretty good, but rice and beans not so much. Way overpriced beer. Tried it again a few months ago, had hopes of finding someplace around here with really good Huevos Rancheros. Well, this ain't it. Manager did ask how thing were when paying, and gave us a discount. Too bad the food is not as good as the setting...

  • Jenn D.

After reading all the great reviews we decided to give this place a try...what a disappointment. We had the fried avocado appetizer which was different but just ok and the combination plate relleno and Carne adovado enchilada Christmas. The beans tasted like they were from a can and the green and red chile were just ok. No real love put into this food...just felt like we were eating at a New Mexican chilis. I still feel disgusting after eating here.

  • Edward P.

Delicious Mexican food. Recommended by all the locals and well worth the visit. Food is 5 stars and the ambience a little less. Thought it was going to be a bit more old world/original as a setting, but nothing was going to detect from the food.

  • Trevor C.

Stuffed sopapilla and fried avocado were amazing. First Mexican food we've tried near Alamogordo and it was awesome.

I'm usually ho hum about New Mexican food, but this place is great! Pesole soup is delicious and the Carne adovado enchiladas are the best enchiladas I ever had.

  • Michael C.

Delicious food, really enjoyed both the salsas!

Thank you Yelp for helping us find this place! We stopped for lunch on our way to White Sands based upon other reviews. We ordered the nachos and fried avocado slices. Both were great-but for sure try the fried avocado if you go! It was more than enough food for the 2 of us. You get complimentary sopapillas as well. And our waitress was so friendly and gave us some good information about the area.

We decided to take a day trip to Cloudcroft today. We always wanted to try Casa de Suenos sometime, so since we had the time and it wasn't too far out of the way, today was the day we checked it out. The restaurant is a very charming Mexican eatery. Our service was just fine, and the chips and salsa were very good. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had a stuffed sopapilla, with ground beef, green chile, and extra chopped onions. It was delicious. The accompanying pinto beans and rice were good also. Would definitely return.

Really good! I had the buffet - red and green chili enchiladas and chicken tacos - FANTASTIC! My husband "yummmmed" all the way through his New Mexico turkey sand which. Great service as well! And fun atmosphere. Very reasonable prices.

  • Allison N.

you know what was cool about this place? 1. it was clean 2. it had a nice atmosphere 3. the waitress was charming 4. we had two different types of salsa both of which were tasty 5. there was a vegetarian section on the menu 6. my husband kept looking at me and saying 'DUDE!' throughout the meal... 7. the ingredients were incredibly fresh and distinguishable 8. I cannot wait to return to try their margarita...after which I will either bump up the score or leave it as is (you cannot truly rate a Mexican food place until you try a tequila drink) DUDE!!!

Popular Mexican restaurant in a small town in NM. Local Rotary Club was having lunch while we were there. Nice chips. Green sauce is very hot. Red is milder. Both were nice and fresh, but not my favorite. Decor is nice. Very clean.

This place has improved over the years and is now the best ever. The pork chop is to die for, no lie. The service is always courteous and fast. The salsas are so good you will want to take them home. Nice décor with plenty of seating. All guests I have taken here continue to talk about this restaurant.

Hands-down the best Mexican restaurant in Otero County...nobody else even comes close. I've eaten here once a year for the last 12 years and have always enjoyed my meals. I took away a star because they seem to have a regular problem delivering food to the table as soon as it is ready to leave the kitchen. Consequently, at least half the time, my food does not arrive hot...just warm. Freshly-cooked meals should be served hot. Otherwise, you can't go wrong here. Extensive food & drink menu, always delicious. They are almost always busy and crowded, so you know they're doing something right!

  • Nathan M.

Unfortunately, I have only been there once. I say that because the food was pretty tasty and we want to go back. After a disasterous first attempt to visit (we missed the entrance, tried taking a dirt trail and got the car stuck, only to find they were closed due to a private party), we went back. Food was real good. My family and I are mexican food fans, so we kind of have high expectations when we visit places. This was no exception. Was a little while ago, so I dont remember what I had ordered. The menu was decent, the beer was cold and I enjoyed what I ate (kids are picky and they liked it). Reccommend this to all.

I've never had a bad meal here. It is by far the best restaurant in the Alamogordo area (which is not saying much). When I am in town this is my goto. Highly recommended!

It has been some time since I've been, but after having a bad experience with another Mexican restaurant hundreds of miles away, I longed to eat here again. Our first time here was after we had went to the pistachio farm up the road in 2008. The food was incredibly awesome, my son, who hated Mexican food, loved the chicken quesadilla and cheese dip. One of our favorites was the deep fried avocados with jalapeno ranch dressing. Never saw it before and haven't seen it since. In fact, we enjoyed it so much, that on another trip across country, we drove an hour out of our way to go there again....and again thoroughly enjoyed it! Hubs had the prickly pear salad which was fresh and interestingly good. I had fajitas and of course we had to have the deep fried avocados! I can promise you this, if we are ever near here again, we will go out of our way to go here!

Located on Tularosa New Mexico and sitting next to a gas station / truck stop. It is 13 miles from Alamogordo (White Sands Drive). Inside this restaurant is absolutely beautiful. There is a small gift shop with southwest art and jewelry. The sinks in the bathroom are painted tiles. The murals are also beautiful. The food is also great. Worth the drive.

New Mexico food at its best! Friendly service, nice relaxed atmosphere, awesome food! This is our favorite place to go for celebrations of any kind! Families are welcome, as are groups. The food is homemade...no canned stuff here! A little out of the way but worth the trip!

Went for lunch on Wednesday, overall experience was positive. The service started out excellent, but as the dining room became more full, it slowed down considerably. Wife skipped dessert sopapilla due to the time lapse between waitress sightings. We ended up having the lunch buffet. It included salad, pulled pork (delicious), 2 types of smothered enchiladas, hard/soft taco bar with beef and chicken and small cake portions for dessert. The food was very good, and the price was very low. We will definitely come again. One major complaint; they have THE most uncomfortable chairs on the face of the earth. If NASA engineers were to try for years to design a more painful sitting platform, they would never achieve success. Please, for the love of all that is holy, replace the back-killing chairs. Sitting on the floor would be better.

New Mexican Cuisine! Really good and affordable lunch buffet. Awesome dinner menu, great atmosphere for a dinner date. Bring the kids for lunch! The Steak and Pork Chops Azteca are both top notch.

We found the food tremendous. There were many entrees outside the standard Mexican fare. The sopapillas were a revelation. If you're in the area, it is a must stop.

This place is gorgeous inside. The staff was amazing. I even saw them helping each-other without being told to do so (not sure I've ever seen this in a restaurant). Unfortunately my least favorite part was the food. I had tacos and they tasted like I made them (flavorless and boring). The rice was good. I typically only eat green salsa, but I didn't like theirs. (I did like the red, which I typically don't eat). The smell of the food both outside and inside the restaurant was mouth watering, so I think I'll try something else next time.

Very good food, located about 15 miles N of Alamogordo/Cloudcroft Hwy. We've been going for years and it's frequently my first stop when I have a cold: chimi with red sauce is pretty good for getting my sinuses moving. And getting sopapillas as a free dessert is very nice. My wife is quite fond of their albondigas and I'll second that. One thing that's a little different is their enchilladas are normally served flat, seems like NM they're normally rolled. They have an open back patio and a side room and would be excellent for large groups.

This is our favorite mexican restaurant...The green n red sauce are very delicious. Every time we go there, the food tastes so good. Absolutely love this place. Highly recommend to friends and relatives.

THIS FOOD IS AMAZING. True authentic New Mexican food. This is a must try if around the area. Good service as well, it's definitely not a quick wait though (but it's WELL worth the wait).

My favorite place to eat when I come home. The food is authentic and fresh! I usually have a stuffed sopapilla that never disappoints. My aunt always orders the chili rellenos and loves them every time. The service is great but a little on the slow side. Definitely recommend!!

Great food, clean/cute restaurant and always great service! I could live on their chips and salsa. There's not a lot of options in this area but this is one of my husband and I's top 3 "go to" restaurants in the Alamo/Tulie area.

Delicious Mexican food. Recommended by all the locals and well worth the visit. Food is 5 stars and the ambience a little less. Thought it was going to be a bit more old world/original as a setting, but nothing was going to detect from the food.

Very reasonable prices.

you know what was cool about this place? 1. it was clean 2. it had a nice atmosphere 3. the waitress was charming 4. we had two different types of salsa both of which were tasty 5. there was a vegetarian section on the menu 6. my husband kept looking at me and saying 'DUDE!' throughout the meal... 7. the ingredients were incredibly fresh and distinguishable 8.

New Mexico food at its best! Friendly service, nice relaxed atmosphere, awesome food! This is our favorite place to go for celebrations of any kind! Families are welcome, as are groups. The food is homemade...no canned stuff here! A little out of the way but worth the trip!
