This place is small and cute with delicious food. Wanted to try their famous Eggs Benedict, but we came on a Friday (served Saturday & Sunday only). Cooked joked with us that it was against FDA regulations to serve that much cholesterol. I ordered the pecan and blueberry pancakes which were awesome. My husband ordered the egg plate and ate every bite telling me it was a breakfast win. House blend coffee was great too.

We went as a larger group (8) and waited about 30 minutes for a seat on the patio on a Sunday, which I didn't think was bad. Between us, we had huevos rancheros about as many different ways as could be ordered, (tomatillo sauce, red sauce, green sauce, eggs every different way) and two breakfast burritos. Everyone seemed reasonably happy with their order, although we didn't get anything that was too difficult. Service was a cute, older lady that was running around pretty frantic but was very nice and didn't miss anything. It was good..fine..decent and made better by the lack of competition. :) We'd go back.

I would have loved to eat on the patio but this place was packed! I had the half order of heavies rancheros with green sauce- I didn't love the sauce but the beans and egg were great. Chips and salsa were delicious. Also to try their Mexican lunch I did have a chicken enchilada- red sauce was good. This is a good cheap place For a breakfast:brunch.

I wasn't overly impressed with this place. The eggs were good. The omelette had exactly what it said it would have in it. Oh and the Orange peel garnish was pretty. The service was good and speedy however that was probably the best thing about this place. The potatoes were burnt I'm not sure if I was eating it a certain style. But it wasn't good. I love hash Browns and they are hard to mess up. I'm not sure why they looked and tasted that way. I wish I could say more God things about this place but the food was not overly good it was just decent

Found our new place to go for breakfast/lunch when staying in Ruidoso. This little place doesn't have much seating and parking is limited. Hours are Wednesday to Sunday close around 2PM so don't sleep in too much. Half the group gor breakfast and the other went with lunch. Both were low priced for Ruidoso serving size was small, but I needed that. Enjoy.

We went on a Saturday morning for breakfast and barely any wait time. There are healthy meal options and the real maple syrup was delicious.

Had breakfast here multiple times. Came with children. Food is delicious. Everyone enjoyed their choices (omelets, pancakes, eggs, etc.). The only downside to this place is the service. It isn't terrible but I wouldn't call it good either. The food does outweigh the service but just know that going there. Also the restaurant is very small so there is sometimes a wait later in the morning.

If I had a vice, it would be chips and salsa. And, when I leave New Mexico, I'll be dreaming anout the chips and salsa here at Pena's Place. There's not a lot of seasoning in the food so you can salt it to your heart's content. The restaraunt is quite tiny. There's only one table that will seat six. But in fair weather they have outdoor seating for larger groups. For my friends that avoid pork, there is no pork in the beans and they are not refried in lard! Plus, plus for me! Come by and meet some of the locals.

The enchiladas was amazing! The chips and salsa were also delicious. Great service and patio! It was kid friendly and a nice quiet place a little outside of the hectic traffic.

Service was nice, but the breakfast was just ok. There was nothing about it that I couldnt easily have made myself, the hash browns were overcooked as was the omellete and the biscuits and gravy severely lacked flavor.

I've been eating breakfast here for the past 8 years. I can't think of a single negative thing to say about Pena's. The food is delicious and the owners are just great. I pretty much stick with the omelettes, so can't comment on much of anything else. I love the quaint atmosphere (just a handful of tables inside and a few covered picnic benches outside). This is about as far as you can get from the huge breakfast places, and in my opinion you can't get too far from them.

Looking for breakfast place in Ruidoso. Quite a few reviewers rated Pena's high and our chef at Great China Wall said it was worth the wait (it is small dining area and few tables). My wife ordered Eggs Benedict -- said they were the best she has ever eaten and she has tried Eggs Benedict everywhere. I had the Egg Breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs, refried beans, potatoes, bacon and toast. Mine was good - its hard to mess that up. Our son ate whole wheat pancakes. I didn't like them (I am a traditionalist when it comes to pancakes) but he ate 3/4 of the plate which is very uncommon. Overall Pena's is worth the wait.

Been coming here for years when we are in town. I love to go out to breakfast & this is a favorite. Huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos, omelets are all great. Good food, good service, nice folks.

One of the best places in Ruidoso to get breakfast, you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, including lunch items. The I have tried almost everything on their menu and so far has been great. You also can't beat the wait staff, they make you feel right at home. I recommend this place if you want a great breakfast.

Based on the reviews, we thought we had found a great place for mexican breakfast. The food wasn't bad, just bland. I look forward to coming to NM for the among other things, the food. This is not representative of what I expect in NM. More of a east coast version of Mexican food. The red chili was watery and basically tasteless. Those of you who know great red chili will understand this. Besides that, the waitress was a real ______(fill in the blank) and we had to listen to the owner talk politics in the table behind us. Wont be going back or recommend. You win some, you lose some.

We were trying to keep it a secret, but it's been in 'NEW MEXICO' magazine now, so here goes. Our 2nd favorite breakfast place ever! (Andrew's - Boothbay Harbor) Pecan and blueberry pancakes a must. Huge breakfast burrito, Eggs Benedict on the weekend, Spanish omelette with just-right chorizo, a proper 'grilled biscuit' and on and on! Please dress up! Sign yourself in on the sheet by the self-serve coffee and save your Hostess Desk Antics for another place. Use a tranquilizer dart on any approaching Hipsters. That is all.

Great breakfast! We have tried the biscuits and gravy, burritos, blueberry pancakes and omelettes. All are great! Very small indoor eating. Go early!

I like this place. It is small, and they are known for their breakfasts. I had huevos racnheros, which were good if not a bit bland. Add a little salt and Cholula, and you're cooking with gas. I like that they give you option of red, green or tomatillo sauce. Reasonably priced, and it is a family-run restaurant.

Was originally hesitant to order Eggs Benedict at a Mexican food restaurant but I was not disappointed-they were excellent. Went back the next morning and ordered the huevos rancheros which were good but a little bland. Service was great and everyone was very friendly.

Mmmm loved this place! Finally something impressive! The place is small but super cute. Family owned and tons of pride. Gets packed for breakfast so make time to wait a bit. I had a western omlette it was fantastic. Also tried the pancakes and they were great. A must visit for breakfast. Can't wait to come back and try lunch. They close early at two pm

Food and service were just OK.....nice folks, nice menu and one of the few places serving breakfast early am in Ruidoso....eggs were over-cooked and portions were smallish....ordered items were forgotten and then took a while to finally be delivered....biggest dead giveaway-- Country Crock on the tables instead of butter....

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
