Thus far in the past year I have enjoyed multiple fantastic meals and this has become my favorite, extremely low key, restaurant. My hopes are that it never succumbs to the big city glitz of neighboring Santa Fe. Should you need crisp table cloths, primped wait staff and pretentious surroundings than this spot might not be for you. If however you want honest New Mexican, well prepared meals and creative house specials then come as you are, relax and enjoy. Special orders don't upset the chefs! Have special dietary needs? Want a combination you don't see? Have a hankering for something not listed? Just ask. As everything is cooked to order so my esoteric requests have yet to meet anything more than perhaps a complimentary recommendation from the staff. Just deserts? Not a sweet fan myself, my wife can't get out without sampling one and sometimes taking something else to go. As for myself it's nice to have balanced sweet and individual flavors unmistakably homemade and renown. C'est la vie Harry's Roadhouse! Just overhears the adjacent table saying, "I might not be able to eat it here because I am full, but I will take some home". Tonight a half order of Carnitas Diablos with added pasta salad, rice and beans (and the other half for tomorrow).

Best New Mexican food I've had; beats everything in Santa Fe. Very low key place, they have fabulous daily specials and be SURE to save room for pie for desert; I had apple pie with cinnamon and piñon nuts, yum! Be sure to remember their limited hours and season before you go out, they are open Thursay-Sunday and March-November, which reminds me that I need to get out there again before November!

This place is absolutely fantastic! Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can't go wrong. Mimosas and juevos for breakfast, homemade bread with specialty sandwiches for lunch, and gourmet salmon dinners! Look no further for consistently delicious fare and eat at La Risa.

The best little local place. If you are headed to Villanueva state park, make sure you plan on stopping here for some dessert. The whole menu is full of New Mexican goodness. Piñon pesto stuffed trout and the Nacho's nachos are my favorites. Laura's red and green are as good as anything you'll find in Santa Fe.

There aren't any reviews of this restaurant because we locals don't want the word to spread. This is hands down the best food in New Mexico, of any cuisine. Save room for the desserts, they are extraordinary. Note La Risa is only open March to November, Thursday through Sunday. Don't tell your friends about this place, let it be our little secret.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
