I often wonder whether I'm the only one who gets giddy about the foundations of this beautiful state. I do, I get cheeky, maybe geeky, when I enter our History. I didn't know anything about this place but my Yelp app veered me to it, on a Sunday at 8 a.m. following a weekend camping in the Pecos wilderness. The place delivered in droves. Thanks once again, Yelp. The Cassanova. The title alone should intrigue. An adobe monument of these parts, Frankie is one of many to inhabit the place over so many years. According to one of the employees it was originally a mercantile, but it has posed as a lot of businesses over the last century, including a night club. The skeleton remains intact; the wood frame and many of the (rather awesome) murals decking out the walls go back some 60-plus years. It's one of those spaces that seemingly embraces the human activity from yesteryear, just dining there makes you a part of the past. Breakfast was good, not great, but the pancakes were huge and the red chile on my breakfast burrito was divine. Fresh cut white roses and baby's breath sat in vases throughout the restaurant. Our waiter was really attentive and he concocted an iced coffee with piñon beans that perked me up. And I was pretty shocked to find out the place had a great Yelp deal, $10 for $20, not something I'd expected in such a small town. The price was right, too. Nice job, Frankie's, you've entered the 21st century in style. This is certainly my go-to the next time I get away from it all.

An accidental find on our way from the Pecos National Historic Park to Santa Fe. We struck it rich. You take a step back in time as you enter this typical NM style building. Full of antiques and charm. He says that the restaurant gets a full 5 stars for ambiance. Enjoyed a lunch of 'Salad and Stew' with great green chile chicken stew and a great mixed salad with a delicious Vidalia onion salad dressing. He liked his green chile chicken enchiladas plate. All was quickly polished off. They were not over crowded and seemed to have a fair number of locals. We passed on the sinfully looking home baked cakes. The waitress thoughtfully offered us waters to go and off we went, proud of ourselves for finding this gem.

Wow! What a great dining experience! While visiting Pecos I stopped into the Post Office to post a letter and I inquired about the best place for lunch in town. The postmistress pointed towards next door. That's Frankies. When you walk in you experience what was once the old West: a huge room with high ceilings. This was once a hacienda. We had the green chilie stew along with green chilie cheesburgers both of which were superb. The service was attentive, the ambiance was comfortable but the food was superb. As I would say on roadfood.com it's worth a 100 mile detour just to dine there.

This place isn't the prettiest place to look at, but has some of the best green chilli stew in NM. Service is really good and it is never too busy anywhere in Pecos.

Family owned restaurant that's been there 14 years. Great decor, great service, mind-blowingly delicious food. Went with a group of 6 and we all shared with each other- everything was amazing. My favorite was the roast beef burrito. You won't be disappointed no matter what you order!

If you are an Old Route 66 follower headed west, Frankie's is Pecos New Mexico's last spot on Route 66 and worth a stop. If you want to spin into the energy vortex of Southwest history; prehistoric hunting and gathering, small pueblos, the drought collapse of 1400, the new pueblo trade crossroads, Spanish Conquest, Pueblo Revolt, Reconquista, Santa Fe Trail, Fur Trade, Mexican Revolution, War with Mexico, American Civil War, the first Dude Ranch, Oil and Hollywood Money, and once again, Route 66, Frankie's and Pecos New Mexico is the place where all that comes together. You might make your own history here. After seven sleep-deprived days and nights locked in a tiny trailer, floor open to the wind, dust, rain, cold, heat and hail with an occasional sack lunch tossed through the back door to keep us alive, lunch at Frankie's was like St. Peter cracking open his pearly gates for a glimpse at What Lies Beyond. We got in about 1:30 PM, just as the place was shutting down from lunch. We chose a table under the trees out on the north side lawn, enjoying watching New Mexico's June mountain skies toss black white blue and grey wreathes of twisting cloud and sky among the Sangre de Cristo Peaks. I sampled the chile verde stew, New Mexico spicy warm, not nuclear fusion hot. I call it good. This I shall eat again. I also had the grilled veggie sandwich. This too was good, grilled veggies smothered in cheese. The cheese quantity was a bit much for me, but nothing worth a Yelp* whine. The indoor premises are interesting and would be delightful in winter with a giant blaze in the adobe fireplace. The new proprietors of this former mercantile, courthouse, bar, restaurant and ???? spared the 1940's-era murals on the inside walls, kept the old bar on the southeast wall, restoring the rest with great rural New Mexico style. You could score points for excellence, ambiance and charm with a date, business meeting, or other social gathering. Dinner is served Thursday to Saturday. I recommend a stop.

Great food!! Cute building with very nice local decor inside. Super friendly waitstaff and really great ambiance inside. Loved their green chile cheeseburger. I had a side of green chile which was also delicious and mildly spicy. Pecos National monument Park is only a mile or two down from where the restaurant is. We went to the park first then came here for a delicious and relaxing time. Another plus: they pull great espresso shots and their cappuccino is quite good too!!! Enjoy!!!!

Mwah! And smooch! The huevos rancheros were awesome, the potatoes incredible AND...guess what? The beans were actually cooked all the way through & I didn't fart all the way back to Santa Fe....much to my friend's relief. She grew up in Pecos, so she was related to literally every person who walked in the door. She was even related to most of the wait staff! Needless to say, we ended up hanging there for almost FOUR friggin' HOURS....but the staff (relatives or not) were very patient with us. From what I hear there's no better place in Pecos to eat. Need I go on?

We were visiting Pecos National Park and decided to try out this place based on the great Yelp reviews. This is a real gem in the small town of Pecos! There was plenty of seating inside; however, it was a gorgeous day and there were several plastic and banquet type tables outside under the shade of some large cottonwood trees that attracted our attention. The staff were outstanding - very friendly, never let our water and tea glasses go empty. The menu was typical for northern NM, our table had carnitas (the special), burritos (which were huge), green chile stew, and a green chile burger. Despite the substantial serving sizes, no one left anything on their plates, even the garnish was finished (we are a dishwashers dream guest). I highly recommend this restaurant as an example of good local New Mexican food, with wonderful friendly New Mexican hosts in a typical small New Mexican community.
