Nice, clean bar. Got here at 10:30 pm on a Wednesday, and the place is pretty empty. Not surprising with it being the day after St. paddy's. Bartender is nice. Don't know of any other options in this town, but I'd come here again.

I often order carry-out using their website, and it's always a smooth transaction. The pizza is always hot and ready the way I ordered it. Also, I find Domino's is less greasy than their competition, which I appreciate. For what it is - hot, convenient, and easy to order online, it can't be beat around here.

We stopped at the Skyway Travel Center while headed East on I-40 to fill up the gas tank, hit the restrooms, purchase yet another drink, and trade out drivers. Three of us embarked on a two day journey originating in Phoenix, AZ and terminating in Davis, IL which was marked by a stop at least every two hours to accomplish any combination of these goals. I drank more coffee, sodas. and energy drinks in the last 48 hours than I've consumed in the last month. The Skyway Travel Center was located conveniently within eye sight of the I-40 Freeway. We saw it from the freeway and had plenty of time to change langes and exit. It is located just off the freeway with easy access both getting on and off the exit and had reasonably priced Shell branded gasoline, cue checking off list item #1. The restrooms were clean, check off list item #r2. There was a Subway Sandwich store inside the same building as the convenience store, but it was too soon after breakfast and too far away from lunch for us to want to take advantage of it, but there was a good selection of drinks in the refrigerated case and the fountain offered both Diet Pepsi and Diet Dr Pepper, so Tyoni and I had no trouble finding drinks to help us survive the next leg of the drive, check off list item #3. I wandered around a room filled with Native American themed items for sale and kept myself entertained while Tyoni picked out a Sudoku book to keep herself entertained. It was Ron's turn to drive, so we checked the last item off our list and hopped back into the car to resume our journey

La Ventana Steakhouse

110 Geis St
Grants, 87020
Reviews:
A find that is off the beaten track. La Ventana is a welcome dinner destination in a small town. The fillet was cooked to perfection in the bank potato was hot and steamy and loaded with everything. The steam broccoli, which I added, was wonderful as well. I sat at the bar and carried a wonderful conversation on with Terry the bartender who was exceptional and giving spot on service. Whenever you're in New Mexico due West from Albuquerque stop in and enjoy a wonderful steak and the scenery as well as the hiking here in grants New Mexico.
Based on Yelp reviews, La Ventana Steakhouse was one of the better places to eat in Grants, NM. My husband and I went there at 4:00 on Friday. The atmosphere was darkish, had nice table linens, was dated but clean. The waitstaff were friendly and made us feel welcome. Our drinks were served immediately along with warmed tortilla chips (hot, crisp, and light) along with some of the best salsa I've ever had. My husband and I decided to split an order of fajitas. We couldn't make up our minds about chicken or beef so the waitress said we could have both. Our food came in good time. The flour tortillas were perfect. The fajitas were served with sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and pinto beans. I used all the sides on my beef fajita. It...was...so...good! The chicken was almost as good, but the beef was so flavorful and tender - I think it was actually tenderized or cube steak. I liked La Ventana so well that I wanted to try it again the next day. By the time we were finished with our meal, the restaurant was almost filled by what looked like mostly locals - it must be a Grants favorite. Our time in Grants was short and I didn't have the opportunity to go back the next day, We don't get to Grants often, I hope it's still there if we ever make it back.
This was a nice find. Obviously popular with locals, although it was a little pricey, the food and service was excellent. Trying to eat healthy, I had the soft grilled chicken tacos, and they were delicious. The chicken was moist and tender, and everything was flavorful. My spouse had a club sandwich, which he described as very well made. The servers were very professional and attentive.

Surf Shack Pizza

Reviews:
We came in today and while it was fun for the kids, I wasn't super impressed with the seating arrangement. The kids loved the slides and the games looked fun - we didn't play because the kids were acting up. We ordered 2 pizzas, a side salad and a pitcher of root beer. The pizza was really good and the salad, although plain was good. I only gave 3 stars because I wasn't that impressed with the condition of the inside. Next time I'm in Grants I will probably order the pizza for delivery. Crust was crunchy and fresh. The sauce was super fresh and very tasty. Excellent toppings and cooked to perfection.
Nice pizza in a family friendly location. We chose a Hawaiian pizza (veggie option) and one with chili on it. Both personal size, they were big enough to be lunch the next day too. The place is unusual as there is a kids area which reminded us of Chuck e Cheese (with apologies if spelled wrong!). You can sit elsewhere if you aren't kid-oriented, but it seemed a good place for families in a small town off I-40.
Road Trip Notable Nosh #6 (See Lists) OMG. Completely unexpected deliciousness coming from a girl who fancies herself to know her pizzas. Having lived in NYC for the last 16 years, I've had some really extraordinary pies. We decided to have fun and get a large Hawaiian. (We also got a salad to make ourselves feel better, but it was merely "meh": - I believe it was called the All Veggie, though it had Bacon Bits in it, which I could have done without). Back to the pizza - Just the right amount of cheese nicely browned on top, not too much marinara sauce, sweet and tangy bits of pineapple and some salty pieces of choice ham, again, made crispy right from the oven. The crust was not too thick and not too thin, had a nice bite and al dente texture. There may have been some corn meal on it; hubs said they made it fresh in house. Yum.

Blake’s Lotaburger

Very good burger with jalapeños, fries and butterfinger shake.
Oh. My. God. Driving across the U.S. I've been to many local joints... This was amazing. Tried their signature Lota burger with onion rings.... The hot dog... And the fish n chips. No I wasn't alone. Seemed a little shady, but definitely full of locals and prices were very reasonable and pretty clean for a hole in the wall. Awesome.
This restaurant's like a throwback to hamburger stands of the 60s and 70s-- but I mean that in a GOOD way. Unlike the retro themed restaurants today sporting the idealized look of Hollywood movie sets, Lotaburger is the genuine issue. Drive up and walk inside the simple building. The staff is friendly. The food's kind of bland but the portion sizes are great for the price. Grab a seat at one of the few tables inside, or go outside and sit beneath the vintage sign by the old Route 66. This is one of the few businesses in town that you could almost imagine is still in its heyday along the legendary route west. Just try to ignore the boarded up gas stations and condemned motor court motels across the street.

Showed up as they were getting ready to close.. Owner invited us in nonetheless... Great guacamole dip.. Their sopapillas with honey were delicious.. All around Good food and great, friendly service.. Would go back If ever passing thru again in future and I will certainly pass the word around!!
Great little place! Everything was delicious and hit the spot! We were escaping from the snow storm on our way to Albuquerque and food here was just perfect! They had the best Sopapillas I've ever had! Loved them so much I had to get some to-go! Made fresh, fluffy, and soft, it was like an Indian fried bread with honey except square and with a unique taste! We will definitely be back again some time! Staff was friendly and fast!
Don't worry about it, you're getting a good dose of Grants at this hometown hub. El Cafecito embodies everything a small town cafe should own. The menu is simple, traditional New Mexican, and the plates deliver the basics, as does the service. I have an affinity for eateries like this, the kind of place where you'll overhear conversations varying from this year's crop yield to the next big festival downtown. Grants, like so many townships built on the fortunes of the railroad and mining boom, is a community filled with earnest, honest people who are desperate to reinvent the present without losing a grip on the past. As I approached the front door I saw a sign in the window, Line Cooks Needed. I'm guessing a lot of aspiring, great people skip town around here, and that's a shame. But a quick glance of the menu perhaps presents a clue to the urban flight. I wanted a salad. Surprise, no salads at El Cafecito. I eventually settled on a beef, cheese and chile burrito, and it was... well, exactly what I expected. I'm thinking the place could definitely expand its selection and incorporate a few unusual, fun dishes, instead of just sticking to the tried and true. If I were faced with these options day in and day out, I'd probably jump ship, too.

Denny’s

Um, yea so if you're in Grants and you don't want Subway or Taco Bell or McDonalds there is a Denny's here. It was actually decent. I had eggs, bacon, hash browns and two pancakes. Not bad. I went in with low expectations and they were exceeded. If you're ever in a Denny's and you overhear an older couple asking strangers for a lift to their hotel because they are too tired to walk back, give them a lift. You'll be glad you did.
My sweetie said worst meal she's ever had at Dennys...sadly..she is correct. Food was terrible. . Learned a lesson...should just stick to breakfast at Denny's Ugh
KEEP DRIVING!!!! The service is very slow... The bathroom has actually been classified as a Third World Country. And on a side note... The kid behind me is about to get smacked if his parents don't take that damn knife and fork away from him.

I'll preface this review by saying that I haven't had KFC in about 2 years, but wow, my meal was incredibly salty...borderline inedible. I ordered the strips with a side of wedges. The wedges were no different than any other KFC I've ever been to, but the tenders were just awful. They were cooked as good as fast food chicken can be cooked, but the batter must loaded with sodium. I took one bite and tossed the rest. Granted, when I used to frequent KFC I would get a 2-piece meal, so maybe I am not used to the tenders. I also have drastically changed my diet in the last 2 years, so perhaps there is nothing wrong with the food...just my taste buds.
