My boyfriend and I are from San Diego and if the 5 stars doesn't say enough, then I'll say more! Definitely reminded us very much of mexican food back home, we probably went to eat here anywhere between 2 and 5 times per week when we were in Farmington for about a month and no we did not get tired of the menu. The food and service here is lovely. They make fresh tortillas daily with no preservatives and they are sooo good. They also sell prepared masa for tamales and we bought some and it was also excellent. You pay when you order and they bring the food to you like most mexican places we're used to. The girls are always incredibly nice and the food never disappoints! If a San Diegan is recommending Mexican food outside of San Diego, GO!!! You will not regret it I almost forgot to mention, we had intentions of taking a picture of our food each time we went to eat here however we were obviously way too eager to dig in every time that taking a picture was not even a thought at the moment!

The food was 5-star! We are always on the lookout for good local food when vacationing and this place did not disappoint. I had the enchilada plate: 3 enchiladas, rice, beans, sauce, and a fresh, homemade flour torilla. I had chicken, ground beef and shredded beef. The ground beef was by far my favorite and I wished I had 3 of those! My daughter had the flattened burrito (good) and my wife had the 4 taco plate (delicious!). The red and green sauce are both very good, with a complex taste. While there really is no ambiance to speak of, we had to remove some rice from the table when we sat down, you order from at the cashier and seat yourself, and no one refilled our water, we would still go back in a heart beat because the food was great!!!

The place is clean and service was great. Unfortunately, not a good place if you are vegetarian (the beans and flour tortillas are made with lard).

  • S T.

Not sure what the hype is about the food. I tried the breakfast burrito on the suggestion of the cashier and other yelpers. It tasted like a typical burrito. The service was excellent.

we ate here 8/8/15 around 11 am. this restaurant was constantly busy when we were dining here. most of their customers placed their orders of the phone and were there for pick up. we walked up to the counter and told the ladies it was our first time. they took some extra time to explain the menu and offered suggestions. they were nice and very helpful. there is nothing fancy about the interior decor. this place is all about the food. we ordered a chimichanga, taco plate and kids quesadilla. all three entrees were delicious! even our boys wanted to try our chimi and taco plate. we also ordered a small bad of chips and salsa. the chips were good and salsa was freaking hot! we were so full from our lunch and our food wasn't swimming in grease! good stuff. the food is reasonably price. the food portions are on the smaller side but it taste great! this maybe one of our favorite mexican restaurants in farmington!

We are from CO and are passing through town for work.. We stopped here initially thanks to other great Yelp reviews and couldn't be happier we did! Right when we walked in, we were greeted with an amazing aroma that excited us even more. We ordered the chicken tacos and chile relleno plate, which came with rice and beans. Everything was fantastic and flavorful! Both plates were clean within 15 minutes-- and we usually never eat that fast. The service was great- fast and friendly! The restaurant was super clean too. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area and will definitely return when I'm back in town. This restaurant doesn't have a sign, as the name is written on the wall. The building is rather large so as long as you're paying attention, you won't miss it.

Food and service were great! Smothered burrito and pork tacos were awesome. Everybody in the group really like their food. Something tells me I'll be back for more...

We were here from Florida with the International Airstream Rally. We asked around and then decided to go with YELP! We were not disappointed. The chiles rellenos was the best I have EVER eaten! Freshly made and the cheese was melty, the chiles just spicey enough, and the green sauce -- yummy. The place was very clean although just a little local place! Thank you for recommending this place. I also bought a dozen tamales to take home. Also containers of red and green sauces! Can't say enough good things about this restaurant.

Because our job, my husband and I travel a lot, when we found Doña Maria, we found a gem. Authentic mexican food! Everything is home made, even the bread and the tortillas. Don't miss it! We Love It !

Doña Marias...this one of my favorite restaurants in the area. It is an authentic Mexican restaurant owned by a Mexican woman and she recently expanded her building because they're so successful. I have had tortas, burritos, menudo and tacos there and it is all excellent. They buy their torta bread from another Mexican vendor so it too is authentic. One of my favorites is the chile relleno burrito! Prices are a bit high for a mom and pop Mexican restaurant but it is the only real one for miles and it is worth it. ¡Comemos!

  • Soupy T.

Just to clear up an error from other reviews here ... this is Mexican, not New Mexican, cuisine. Nonetheless, good stuff. Great tortillas. Delicious, rich, red enchilada sauce.

  • Casey C.

Awesome flavor. But when did a $10 meal become just one star?? The smothered burrito plate and iced tea was $10.50. But well worth it! They sell made-fresh-daily tortillas, $4 for about 15 of em. Boom!

  • Geraldo M.

Make sure to grab a takeout menu because you're gonna want to come back! Food is excellent and tastes great. It's the best place to grab authentic mexican food while you're in town

Stopped here on our way back home to Utah. We got the b-fast food, burritos, tortas, etc. and it was all very good. The only thing that my wife didn't like too much about her b-fast torta was that the egg lacked flavor---salt she said. But I assume that was because peoples' tastes are so varied they leave it up to you to salt. I had the chile relleno burrito and it was awesome. My kids had the bean and cheese burritos and they were so good. creamy, cheese beans in a fresh tortilla.

I use to live in california where I can always get good mexican food and this place is in one of my top favorite. The nenudo is delicious! And they are the only mexican place that ive been to that actually has horchata.

  • Dell L.

I have eaten a lot of red chili over the years. I am a gringo from the "middle" but I think I know red by now. This is the best red in the area!!! (Maybe the best I have ever tasted) I can't talk about "authentic" but I would guess this is what "people that know" would call authentic. It's in a weird part of town, in a little strip mall and very un-assuming. PLEASE don't let that stop you from visiting! I've been here a dozen times and NOTHING has ever disappointed me.

Found this place on Yelp. Love to go where locals go. Excellent choice. Taco and chile replenish plates were both great. Very clean and friendly place. Will definitely go back.

  • Brian D.

Pretty good tacos. I ordered the carne asada tacos. Meat was good, tortillas were better, but nothing super impressive. Salsa was pretty weak. 4 tacos for $7.50 is a little more than I want to pay for tacos. But overall, I would go back to try other plates.

Food was good. Getting food took a long time I feel for fast Mexican food. Be prepared to wait.

  • Will L.

Food is excellent. The salsa they provide enhances the flavor of whatever you order. I got the taco plate, but was able to sample the breakfast steak burrito, and the tamales as well. Everything tasted authentic and delicious!

  • Penelope A.

I can say they have the best shredded beef burrito in town. The fresh tortillas are wonderful and you have to try their breakfast burritos ..it is quite filling. Get extra red sauce for your meal because you will definitely want more. There is place to actually sit down and enjoy your meal or you can always take it to go as many locals do.

my husband, who grew up in Las Cruces & knows New Mexican food, wrote this review. We had the enchiladas, kids had breakfast burrito and quesadilla. Enchiladas were fine. Burrito graded at amazing. (Son never lived in N.M.) Quesadilla was in fact a quesadilla. "Decor" is shabby, service was interested and helpful. The thing that kicks this place up from 2.5 or so to 4 is the tamales. We took a dozen to go. Half red, half green. Wow! If I could have gone back and uneaten the enchiladas and had more tamales, I would have. Both kinds were excellent examples of tamale craft. Great balance of masa to filling. nice and spicy, moist enough that we didn't wish for extra sauce. Salsa was another high point. I took all that kids didn't use, refrigerated it, and used it over the next 7 days of travel. Yum!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
