This place has weird hours. They are closed certain days and at strange times. The food is average. There is nothing really special here. If your stuck in Espanola and have a craving for Asian food, this will do but nothing to write home about.

Don't bother with big groups eating here. Hostess and manager, the owners son, lacked any compromise or politeness for our group. They were rather rude. A disappointing visit.

AVOID this place. Cheap low quality sushi, service was awful (I am surprised they're still open awful).

I love the food there it is always good. I mostly order take out so the only contact I have had there is the hostess and on occasion the owner. The food is always very good. I used to eat there several times a week. Till I got tired of the wait times. I order by phone, they say pick out up in 20 minutes, I get there in 30 minutes and then wait another 15 minutes or sometimes much longer. This happens now even when the restaurant is almost empty. The other thing is the phone at JoJis. They don't even have call waiting so you usually get a no answer when trying to order. Or thier answering machine picks up. That means they ignore the incoming calls. I unfortunately do not eat there anymore. I miss the great food but it's just not worth the frustration. Come on management answer the phone!

The fish here is terrible, it tastes like they took the breading off of Gordon's fish sticks and served them with rice. The only thing worse than the food is the service, but don't get me wrong. The decor is awful too.

Had not been here for a while, so I took a friend here for lunch. She got tempura, which was breaded and deep fried, not the lacy tempura batter it should have been. I ordered a roll and aga dashi tofu. The roll was only 4 pieces and about 3 inches around, I had to eat it with a fork. The dipping sauce for the tempura and the aga dashi tofu were just straight soy sauce. The sauce for both is supposed to be a mix of soy, mirin, dashi, ginger, garlic etc. This was straight soy sauce . We sent it back and were informed that that was how it was supposed to be. It was indelible. I have eaten in many Japanese resteraunts, this is not the way it is supposed to be. I will no be going back.

Wife and I had the steak and shrimp. Portions were average to large, and food was good. We both had an appetizer that we liked. Just had water. Bill was 77 before tip. Service was good for new mexico (lower your expectation if not from New Mexico). Recommended for a celebration or if you are OK with with bills this high.

Española is renowned for its New Mexican cuisine and a few restaurants here are easily tied for the best carne adovada in the universe. Only a great fool or a local would forgo one of these for sushi in this town. That said, Jo Ji's does not look impressive and as my namesake astutely mentions, it's not the classiest joint in town. The food, however, is great and I hope it doesn't suffer the same fate as so many restaurants in this economy.

JoJi's has come a long way from 2010 (bad review). The staff is friendly and efficient. The restaurant is clean and decent. The portions are huge and delicious. You can get most rolls wrapped in rice paper instead of seaweed which I prefer. The prices are very reasonable. I drive from Santa Fe to Espanola for this sushi at least 7 times out of the year. Those who want an atmosphere of L.A. restaurants may I suggest you come to Santa Fe. They will be more than welcome to serve you 1/4 the portion size, double the price but you will love the scenery because that is what you are paying for.

JoJi's is a refreshing change from the typical New Mexican cuisine in Espanola. I frequent JoJi's because the food is light and the sushi is good. No it doesn't have the most fancy decor and sometimes the young wait staff can be a little inept, but overall the service and food is good. The locals frequent this venue for something different than a high calorie and heavy enchilada or burrito.

I have to admit when our friends told us they go to a sushi restaurant in Espanola I was very skeptical. We have a few good sushi options in Santa Fe so I thought why drive 30 miles for sushi in Espanola? Well, last night I was able to find out why. We went with these same friends and was very impressed with the quality of fish, etc. Its just as good or better then any sushi I've had in Santa Fe. We were told they get fresh fish in every two days. The restaurant seemed clean and the sushi roll portions are larger then what you get elsewhere. The prices are reasonable. I am giving it a 4 only because I think any restaurant has room for improvement. We will definitely be back!

Chef was skilled and fun . One sashimi order was wrong and they did not make it right. The manager was young and did not make an effort to resolve the problem and we were a party of ten. Excellent spicy tuna hand roll! Poor customer relation experience overshadowed good food and I left feeling less then satisfied from the managers rigid behavior. Teppan was performed very well. If you want to drink alcohol no matter your age make sure you bring an I D.

normally landlocked restaurants have some trouble getting good sushi. that said, this sushi may not the "all-time best", but it is comparable to fancy restaurants in Santa Fe. Most (if not all) of the wait staff is either still in high school or just graduated; which does bring the classiness down a notch or two. The food it self is great, the management has even attracted chefs from bigger restaurants in Santa Fe. when I first went after it opened it wasn't too bad, but it's future was not clear. Now it has gotten better, learned a few things, but it still has a long way to go. its not perfect by a long shot, but its good enough to come back for more. That's Espanola for you.

We were hungry in Espanola and there were not many options. We stopped in Jo Ji's and that was the beginning of our nightmare. The place looks like a diner and the floor hadn't been cleaned in a while. We were seated; one of us never had tempanyaki before and asked a few questions. The waitress was horrendously rude and had no idea what type of dressing or soup would be served with the meal. Usually these things are standard: ginger and miso. The morbidly obese waitress also had no idea what type of wines were available and acted very bothered for being asked. I had ordered a glass of wine but was scared to order any sushi based on the atmosphere. I'm not discriminating but sushi is an art and I needed to build up my confidence. The owner came over and told me that if I wasn't eating then I couldn't drink and that I should go to the bar at Chilli's. Wow. What he needed to do was train his sloppy waitstaff, instead of feeding them... then maybe they would be able to do their jobs. These girls he had working in there were so nasty that, combined with the decor, I felt as though I were in a strip club. It's fair to say I would sooner eat at McDonald's than this place.
