Our favorite place to eat when me, my Mom, and Uncle go to visit my Great Grandma. I really love their food here I always order the lamb burger and it's always been delicious! They also have the best sopapillas here!!

Standard typical New Mexican fare. Favorite spot for locals. Very limited on Vegetarian choices. No vegan options at all.

The food was so good. When I come to visit my parents I always come here. Their food is like grandma use to make. Today's service was fabulous too. But! Yes but! I noticed since last time I was here in Sept 2014 the outside of Angelina's is looking a wee bit dirty. I still give it 5 stars because of the good food

Excellent food. Great prices for the quality of the food, Their menudo is served daily and tastes Original. I am from Jalisco Mexico. and their menudo tastes just like it does in Mexico. Service is friendly. Nice environment. Roomy tables. Easy to have a conversation without the next table being in on your conversation. Fresh beer. Domestic and Imported.

To me this is the very best example of northern New Mexico cuisine at it's finest. Almost everything on the menu is different in some from the normal tourist joints. The soapapillas are the lightest and best ever made. They have lamb on the menu and the ribs are to die for. If you really want to try traditional NM food this is worth the drive from Santa Fe.

This is arguably my favorite restaurant in Española, and I'm a native. First off, I second Devin L.'s recommendation of Flavio's Special. It is a huge bowl of homemade pinto beans and carne adovada. Most locals rave about the lamb here, and I do think it is good. However, the carne adovada is what keeps me coming back time after time. For our friends unfamiliar with New Mexican cuisine, carne adovada is pork slow-simmered in a rich red chile sauce. Because it is always homemade at Angelina's, some days are hotter than others, but it is always yummy.

What happened? It's been about 10 years since I had dined at Angelina's & I'm not sure if my taste buds changed, the restaurant changed or it was just a bad day in the kitchen, but something was amiss. Chips were cold and tasted stale. Sopapillas had an aftertaste like they had been fried in old grease. My sister-in-law's Chili Rellenos were not even palatable. The rest of the story is mediocre at best. I was extremely disappointed to return to a family favorite to find nothing as I remembered. I am a huge fan of New Mexican Cuisine but unfortunately, upon this visit, Angelina's did not deliver.

Terrible service - waited for our server to take our order while all those around us, who arrived after us, got theirs and then, their food and then...

The food is tasty, but the portions could be bigger. The sopaipillas were really good. They should give you chips and salsa to chew on. I ordered the flat enchilada with an egg on top and I loved it. It could have been bigger.

Angelina's was my first taste of New Mexico in about 20 years. The restaurant inside is very much...well normal. At lunch time it was a very popular spot. I tried the lamb sopapilla and enjoyed it very much. The sopapilla was flakey and the meat was tasty. Not knowing which chili to get, I tried the green chili on top of the dish. The refried beans were good as was the rice. It was here that I learned that pretty much everything in NM native cuisine is smothered in red or green chili Overall good, but more a lunch place. Not much for atmospere. Dafe

The atmosphere isn't the best but the food is great and the prices aren't bad. The lamb is very popular. All the New Mexican food is very good. There's a reason you can't find a parking spot for Sunday lunch.

Stopped here for a late lunch on our way back from Ojo Caliente. Very good food and service. Friendly and attentive. I ordered the beef enchiladas; he ordered the chile rellenos. Both of us decided on red chile. Very distinct flavor. I'm not a huge fan of New Mexican cuisine in general (I was raised in the Pacific Northwest where chiles are virtually non-existant) but this was very good. In the four years I've lived in New Mexico, it has taken me a while to develop a taste for chile. Almost always prefer the red to the green. Angelina's red chile is very flavorful; right up there with El Paragua. He said the chile rellenos were delicious; two giant green chiles stuffed with cheese and smothered in red chile just as he prefers. The sopapillas were perfect. They brought us a basket of four. After demolishing our meal, we were able to eat one each so the two remaining sopapillas are coming home. Looking forward to repeat visits; would like to try the carne adovada next time.

5-stars for the Red Chili Caribe Sauce. Awesome! I could eat it on anything, mmmm. Unfortunately, this time the Carne Adovada was not great. I think they took yesterday's Adovada and simply threw in some extra pork to extend it. Some of the pork was over-cooked, but most was undercooked and certainly not fork tender as I needed a knife to cut up the cubes of meat. And, it still had a lot of fat that wasn't fully rendered. Would have complained, but they had just gotten busy and I figured they can't recook pork stew anyway. Would order something else next time. However, their Sopapaillas were super tasty, especially to mop-up the Caribe Sauce.

Spanish food can be a little too much on the spicy side, but i have to admit their sopapillas & beans taste great ! It's a good place to each over all & prices r reasonable , they just need some work for their atmosphere ..

Stopped in for a late light lunch. Split the Chicos and house salad. Never heard of Chicos before...a bowl of small hominy in broth with stewed pork served with sopapaillas and fabulous red and green chile. I will be back.

I came here with about 12 family members on the weekend after Thanksgiving. As I understand it, this place was highly recommended by friends of the family. The food was quite good! I ordered the stuffed sopaipilla with carne adovada. I really, really enjoyed the red caribe sauce/chile! I don't think I have ever had anything like that before, so delicious! My family members didn't seem to enjoy their food as much as me though. I know the ribs are supposed to be good but my dad really didn't like them at all, and he's cooked amongst the best restaurants in Santa Fe (so he knows a thing or two about cooking). Nearly everyone in our party made a comment that the layout/decor of the place.....left something to be desired. I think this place used to be a barn judging by the shape and the tables look really cheap. Also, I'm pretty sure we were sitting right under a bug zapper. The waitress was really brief with us, not super friendly at all. She did do a good job of getting the orders correct, so far as I could tell. No free chips and salsa to start the meal?!?

We were staying near Espanola and checked out Angelina's for breakfast one morning on our way to Santa Fe. While the food was decent, I was very disappointed in the staff. When we arrived, the hostess was processing payments for several people. Never once in the 5+ minutes we stood there did she or anyone else tell us that someone would be with us soon. Service was slow throughout the meal with a wait for over 10 minutes for someone to come to our table, then another 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The breakfast burrito was decent, but a little heavy on the potatoes and low on the green chili. The skillet was delicious, but the biscuits and gravy used what tasted like a packaged white gravy with a sausage patty rather than sausage gravy. Overall it looked like the locals got great attention, but the tourists left feeling ignored.

I have eaten here several times because a friend of mine likes the sopapillas. Last week I ate there and the chili rellenos were so tough I had to cut them with a knife and that was difficult . They serve iceberg lettuce for there salads and that isn't my favorite. The lamb is more like mutton. I love lamb but this was very strong and fatty. Not my choice.

Best food I've ate in my trip to Santa Fe!

I've been a fan of Angelina's for many years. The staff is friendly, and the food is excellent. I eat breakfast there with friends most Saturdays and Sundays. My favorite item for breakfast is the breakfast enchilada with ham, smothered in their excellent green chile. For dinner, I am hooked on their hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and brown gravy. Give it a try if you're in the area...you'll be glad you did!

One of the ABSOLUTE BEST best places to get a stuffed sopaipilla (with chicken). I'm originally from the area and this is one of my favorite restaurants ever. I can't say much for the rest of the menu cause I just always zero in on the chicken sopaipilla but I am never disappointed. I always order red chile on the side otherwise the sopaipilla gets too soggy but once everything is sitting before me I drown that beautiful golden dish with some of the best tasting red chile in the State. The red chile is TASTY, never too hot, just thick enough, and something I wish I could take back with me to the east coast. Angelina's has an interesting history. It used to be located down near the old town part of Española (toward the dine-in Lotaburger area), and where it had been before called Emilio's. I don't know why or how it changed ownership but I had fond memories of that particular location. Around the walls of the restaurant were themed/covered tables with a saloon, jailhouse, adobe house, teepee, etc. and the interior of the rest of the restaurant was "corralled" by railroad logs with handmade wooden tables and straw-seat chairs. The decor inside the new place/location is a bit sterile and out of sync with the rest of the gorgeous southwestern atmosphere outside but just for the time being while you're there, just focus on the food!

I just went back to Angelina's after many years away, and it did not disappoint. I LOVE the lamb stuffed sopapilla with red sauce. I love the sopapillas. I love the chile rellenos. This restaurant remains one of my all-time favorites. Of the planet. If you like New Mexican food, or want to try it, then eat here.

Another hidden gem in the Southwest. Angelina's is the place for amazing chili rellenos and sopapilla. I've also heard their meatloaf is over the top but I wouldn't know because of the aforementioned delicacies.

This is a local version of an ihop, Village Inn, Denny's sort of place. It is where many locals go. Water in plastic tumblers, iceberg lettuce on your plate. Lots of light, good people watching, fast service. Typical Northern New Mexico menu with a little Basque (lamb) influence. The sopapillas are good but the plastic honey bear is sometimes sticky.

I forget the specific name of what I had, but it was _____'s Special. ____ being a person's name. It was pork with beans and a red chili sauce -- just delicious. Not too spicy (I would have liked more heat, but enough for most), but with a fantastic blend of spices. Very tasty. The sopapillas were light and not very oily, just the way they should be. Everyone else in my party was happy with their meals, though the sopapilla burger my brother ordered wasn't very functional. Service was perfectly fine, friendly. The atmosphere was very casual. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm passing through town.

Angie's is among the very best northern NM restaurants. The Guitierrez family has called del Norte home for three centuries, and has owned Angelina's for decades. Of Basque ancestry, Angelina and Fidel specialize in roast lamb and northern New Mexican cuisine. I go there for the "costillas" (lamb ribs) at least once a week. Their prices are very reasonable and it's conveniently located between Santa Fe and Taos in Espanola, a charming small town with alot of local flavor.

Angelina's is an OK place for breakfast. The Chile here is OK as well, not bad, not great. If you want a good dinner though, go somewhere else (see my other reviews).

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
