We should have known the fact that there was not one other customer in the restaurant that this was a major red flag. To get to this place we had past some other close by restaurants of Little Anita's, Flying Star, and Nate and Hannah's which were are packed with customers. We entered the confusing entrance after trying to figure out where the parking lot was. The place smelled like old grease so we sat outside. Food was mediocre but fast, but we were the only ones there. The really bad part was the young disinterested staff. We were the only ones there and nobody ever checked on us. The trio stood around talking like if we didn't exist. We had to get up to find someone to give us our bill. When we made our way to them the trio broke up their chat session and scattered. When I handed the brunette my card she shook her head. It was very awkward because she didn't say anything, and I was unsure of what was going on. Finally she spoke up and stated they only take cash. Mediocre food, blah bland green chili, ok red chili, and poor service. . . . Never again.

Today I had an amazing first experience at this establishment . I'd ready many positive reviews & couldn't resist the visit. As I'm cruising at the posted 30mph (don't speed in Corrales!), I finally arrive at the location. At first glance, the building appears like a little old adobe house, only better. Offering you that true Southwest feel and rustic ambiance as you enter. I was cordially greeted by their bartender & told to have a seat wherever I'd like, indoors or out. Originally, I'd opted for a seat indoors. My lovely waitress suggested an introduction to their outdoor patio, I loved it, & so that is where I chose to remain. So glad I did! It was a perfect day with a lovely blue sky & I enjoyed my meal that much more. I ordered the carne adovada "red" w/corn tortillas and the house margarita. Omg!! Talk about tasty!! The marinated meat was accompanied with a side of beans & hominy. What a yummy combination. The flavor was unique and authentic, not spicy (at least not for me). My waitress provided such amazing service, as well. She was attentive (not overly), informative & had such a cheery disposition. I'll definitely be returning to try something new in the near future!!!

Family restaurant with nice servers (daughters!). Scenery is great! Food is typical NEw Mexico and great prices and plenty of it. A Corrales favorite of the locals. Great bar too! A wonderful place to hideaway!

This place is such a neat treasure in Corrales. It is an old historic place with so much charm . Super friendly staff and it is easy to meet someone new from the neighborhood. We enjoy the cheeseburgers.

This is a quirky and comfy place to hang out in the village. John, the owner always makes you feel like you're having lunch and drinks in your own home. The staff is super friendly and that's only surpassed by the incredible food that John's mom makes everyday. The red chile is to die for and all the ingredients are fresh and the food is made from the heart. It is best to bring cash, but he's now able to take credit card swiped through his phone. Call before you go, they do have limited hours.

We love coming here for lunch - it's has really limited hours and I think it closes at like 230 or 3 pm. This place looks a little sketchy at first and parking is tight. It is like an old home -- but with a bar inside :) Each time we've entered in the bar area and get weird stares so I'm guessing there is another door. The restaurant is small but there is outdoor seating. The food is very straightforward and plain - which is why we love it. My fav is the frito pie and my husband usually gets a stuffed sopaipilla - all of which are tasty. However, the chips and salsa are not great. While the prices are low, at face value, everything is priced out individually so things can add up quickly (think: you will be charged for each can of soda - no refills). Be aware that they only take cash!

If your ever in corrales around lunch time you should stop in and grab a bite and a beer.Only open for lunch. There frito pie was great..

The boyfriend and I were wandering through historic Corrales just for fun. Noticed this old school sign reading "Tijuana Bar" off Corrales Rd and popped in for a beer. This place is classic NM, it's like walking into a movie - an old creaky wooden door leaves you questioning if this place is even open anymore.. upon entering you greeted by a very pleasant barkeeper (didn't get his name). The bar easily sits at least 8, and there's some great bottles of local beer available, a sweet old jukebox (more of a charming antique) and an old piano which still works! The walls are filled with historical tidbits about the joint - from old photographs to great magazine reviews written about the adjoining family restaurant called "Perea's". I'd love to try lunch there! The barkeeper told us (this is as of March 2013) that the restaurant is open for lunch 11am - 2pm weekdays I believe. I'd call them to confirm. And bring CASH! We ordered a beer each and discovered we didn't have any cash only cards (which they don't take). The nice man told us he also takes checks (so cute!) or we could enjoy our beers and grab cash out of the nearby Wells Fargo atm if we like. I thought that was so nice of him! So we did just that. The dining room of this place is adorable and the patio is a super charming little haven off the dusty road out front. This place is what I think of when I think old New Mexico. Maybe I've seen too many movies, but either way this a pleasantly gritty little spot off the beaten path. LOVES it and can't wait to go back!!! Worth the drive from Albs for sure. :)

New Mexican cuisine served in a historic adobe. Friendly, family restuarant that is an institution in Corrales. Try the Carne Adovada and order the sopas. Only open for lunch and no credit cards cash only.

The real deal! Excellent, healthy, traditional New Mexican food served by the Perea family. There are only a few other places in the middle Rio Grande River Vally that make simple amazing chile plus use good quality meats, home made tortillas and tamales - Padillas, Durans, and Apple Tree cafe at Wagner Farms store. Plus Pereas has a rustic bar. Can you say local flavor? Places like El Pinto, Dos Quates, and Sadies are food factories and just don't come close. The full name is Pereas' Tijuana bar! Only open for lunch and some days for breakfast.
