This is a very good mexican restaurant that is nicely located at a spot at a fair distance from White Sands National Monument, that you could have an sumptuous lunch and then drive to and spend the rest of your day at the monument before eating a late dinner. The service and food was excellent. The fried breaded chillies were an excellent appetizer, a good tribute to the chillies heritage of New Mexico. They served us a well-made Veggie Fajita even though it was not on the menu. It was better than the ones they serve at many mexican restaurants where it is listed on the menu. Well sauteed veggies and fresh tortillas. The lady who served us was very sweet and took care of us very well. I recommend you guys definite give this place a try if you are ever around the area.

We stopped for lunch today at Four Winds. The were not too many places to choose and it was some distance to our destination of Las Vegas, NM. Our meals were okay, nothing great and nothing bad. My wife had a patty melt with onion rings and I had a a club sandwich and fries. Service was fine.

Not too many choices of restaurants in Carrizozo, so we went here a bit as a default. They have equal amounts American and Mexican food on the menu, which often does not bode well for the quality of the Mexican food. I ordered chile rellenos with both red and green sauce (Christmas) and it was as good a chile relleno as any I have had. Hot, fresh, flavorful. My friend had the chicken enchiladas and they were excellent, too. Recommend.

Friendly and attentive waitress. Absolutely loved the food! My group got chicken strips, steak strips, chicken fried steak and a BLT sandwich. We were all very impressed and left with happy stomachs. Only downside is that the interior looks old and rundown, but nothing too bad. Overall a great experience!

Food was good but not great. Nothing fancy...just homestyle food. My husband had a burger and I had the burrito. The waitress was really sweet and friendly. Service was prompt.

Try the Pozole or the burgers. Both delicious. Also pay the extra dollar and get the onion rings. fabulous!

I was traveling on business, and had to drive from Alamogordo, NM, to Albuquerque, NM. There is a whole lotta nothing between these two locations, and Carrizozo is the one small town that offers some lunch options. My colleague and I were ravenous by the time we rolled into town, and Four Winds was one of the most obvious places to stop. I ordered a salad and chicken sandwich, while my colleague had a chile relleno. My food was simply okay. The salad was pretty boring, but I was hoping I could make it more palatable by asking for honey mustard dressing, which was one of the restaurant's choices. I was kind of surprised when the waiter provided a squeeze bottle of honey mustard. Um... close enough, I guess? The sandwich was certainly edible, but the fries were certainly not impressive. Kinda wilted and sad, actually. The folks manning the place were not exactly chipper. They weren't as wilted and sad as the fries, thankfully. Maybe their disposition had something to do with the fact that they live in Carrizozo. Just sayin'.

This is a great family-owned and operated place! If you're going to be in the area plan to stop. Get the enchiladas and prepare for the best you've had. Ok, so I'm from the northwest and don't have much experience with authentic Mexican, but it was the best I've had. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was just passing through and happened to stop for dinner. Was recommended the chicken enchiladas and loved them. Staff was friendly and willing to chat with a lonely traveler. The decor of the place may not be four-star, but the food is!

This was the only restaurant open yesterday when we went through after driving the Billy the Kid Byway. Considering the option of waiting to return to Socorro, we made a good choice. The tea came in buckets not glasses. The ground beef was very well seasoned, unlike in Tucson. However, my husband's chicken chimi was fantastic. The chicken was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Our friend had menudo, which was also fantastic. It's a nice place to drop in and have a quick bite before heading back on the road. I think we may be dropping by the next time we drive along the Billy the Kid Byway.

Other than being one the only places in Carizozo, it's actually a nice little place. They had corn dogs for my distinguished paletted children, and their carne asada was really tasty.

My burger was just OK. Kind of a hole in the wall with odd knick-knacks for sale up front. Service was somewhat slow. This is a run of the mill diner experience, very meh.

Tables were all dirty, flies everywhere, nasty bathroom, and horrible food. This was the only place open since it was Sunday, not eating would have been better.

"Serving Great Mexican & American Food" My red chile huevos rancheros were picture perfect: Shredded hashbrowns, refried beans, and two eggs over-easy on top of a corn tortilla smothered in oregano-infused red chile sauce with homemade flour tortillas on the side. My fellow patrons were mostly locals and ranchers. The service was friendly and attentive. Yet another reminder why New Mexican cuisine is among the best on the planet.

Had the Mexican combo plate (the one with chile relleno). The chile relleno and cheese enchilada were okay, the beef taco was tasty, and the green chile sauce and Mexican rice were awesome! Waitress was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant also has an area with lots of eclectic stuff for sale...everything from candy bars to local artwork. I would not go out of my way to go here, yet if I were in the area and needed to get a good meal, this is the place I would go.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
