So great for early morning burritos to go!!! All different kinds! The spice is there no need for hot sauce on some burritos. The ladies are very helpful in explaining what each burrito is made of and if it may be a little too spicy. Real good Mexican style food!

Don't let appearances fool you. The place may look a little shabby, inside and out, but the Mexican food is The Real Deal. Give it a whirl.

We visited this restaurant last week. The appearance of the outside lol has bars on the windows and doors and its next to shady looking hotel. So if you're looking for an upscale restaurant this is clearly not the place. I was told they had authentic mexican food (not New Mexican) which was just what we wanted so we decided to go in. Service was a bit lacking, but they were very friendly. The chips and salsa with avocado chunks was good then we ordered a combination plate, large chile cheese fries & the enchiladas suizas served with rice, beans, guacamole & sour cream which was also good except for the many flies which we had to shoo away from our dinners.

There food is inconsistent. One time I liked it. One time it was blah and had no flavor. It also doesn't seem very clean

One of a few places open on Sunday. Don't let outside scare you. Authentic food, busy, and loud with live music which I could have done without

Do yourself a favor and skip this one. We were visiting Carlsbad on vacation and surprised to learn that the restaurant options on the weekend narrow, since many of the independent mom-and-pop places are closed on the weekend or close early. We wanted something local and different from what we could find back home in Houston and opted for Junior's (over a chain like Pizza Hut or Chile's). Despite the shabby exterior (I like a good hole-in-the-wall) we decided to give Junior's a chance and thought it might be good since there were quite a few cars in the parking lot. When we entered the restaurant, we found that the cars in the parking lot were misleading since there were not that many people eating; I'm guessing that many of them were oil workers and had all arrived in separate vehicles. Our waitress spoke zero English, so when we needed anything we had to get the attention of the cashier to translate. Of course, we had to first get the attention of the waitress who spent most of her time talking and texting on her phone. I think we could have lived with the awful service and language barrier if the food had been decent, which it definitely was not. The homemade tortilla chips that preceded the meal were chewy, rather than crisp. I don't mind "authentic" but this place was too much like eating at a border town dive; dirty, shabby and lots of flies. Despite the poor service, lack of cleanliness and mediocre food, the bill still totaled over $30 for three entrees. Like I said, do yourself a favor and keep driving past this one.

Junior's has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Carlsbad. Prompt and friendly service, good food that's priced right. Don't let the dated facade fool you, and though it is located on the edge of town, it truly is convenient. No spoilers, you must try the food yourself. But I will mention the avocado chunks in the habanero salsa.

Is this the best Mexican food I've ever had? No. Is it the best in Carlsbad? Yes, and traditional. This is not Americanized Mexican food. Simple made in house food. The chips were fried, not out of a bag and you could taste the lard inn the beans. That is the kind of place this is. Some of the better food in town. Avid on Sunday morning they had a mariacci band.

Went to this place for breakfast and wasn't disappointed. The staff was nice and there was a nice selection of different burritos and breakfast plates. The prices were also easy on the wallet. Will be back there again when I'm in the area.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
