Mediterranean, and Points East, Comfort Food Atmosphere .7 of 1 star Service .7 of 1 star Cleanliness 1 of 1 star Food 1.5 of two stars Growing up, one of the kindest humans I ever met was Hamid. Hamid was an Iranian student working toward a petrochemistry MS at a major US university. He dated my aunt, who'd bring Hamid around for family visits. Hamid paid attention to the three-year-old I was, asked questions, respected my answers and didn't hit me or yell at me, generally treating me like a human being with real potential. As a young adult, I traveled in Morocco several weeks, and was impressed by the daily practice of Islam by hundreds of thousands of people and the sincere faith in God they proclaimed openly, earnestly, and frequently. One of the most beautiful industrial sites I ever visited was a Fez silk weaving facility with four ancient pull-looms eight feet wide and twelve feet long, warps of white, wefts of the Apostle's green, creating giant banners of Arabic script with words like "God is Most Great," in pure white on the deep green. The late afternoon sun poured through a clerestory window at the top of the wall, bars of light painted the airborne dust gold, the silk glowing in the last hour of the day. I'd stumbled in by accident, nobody was there. I took it all in for about a minute then left. When I see a Muslim weaving hanging on a wall, it does not put me off, it reminds me of my afternoon in Fez. When I'm alone in a restaurant, especially one serving kebab, baba ghannouje, and shawerma I think of Hamid and the door he opened for me into the lives of Iranian people and their food. And from there, meeting and knowing many other middle eastern people. Yasmine's has good food. It attracts a very diverse crowd. Trying to be a little easier on my digestive tract, I had the Vegetarian Special plate. I've had many falafel, those deep fried balls of garbanzo, garlic and parsley. The falafel at Yasmine's are very good, loaded with parsley. Do you know how good parsley is for you? It's lots more than a garnish. I've never had salads quite like the Jerusalem and Arabic ones. The cucmber, tomato and lemon juice combinations were tartly acidic to my taste. I'm more used to cucumber & yogurt and Greek salads. The chickpea hummus and fatah were both good. Do you know how good olive oil is for you? My dinner came with three pita breads. Ummm. Yasmines makes a lot of desserts. Most were gone by my six PM dinner, but I did have something new for me, a custard Baklava. The custard didn't squish or run out of its filo dough package, wasn't over sweet, generally tasting good. I couldn't eat it all in one sittingand took about 25% of it with me in to-go contaiers graciously provided by my hostess. The kebab, shewarma and gyro meats smelled delicious, but I didn't try them. I'll leave them for you to sample and decide. Cost for a vegetarian combo special dinner and custard baklava: $12.59. Thanks Hamid for being kind to a child. And you know, God IS Most Great. I can't say the same for those waging war in God's name.

I came here for lunch today with a co-worker because we had a coupon from the Alibi. Buy 1 get one 1/2 off entrees or $5 sandwich and fry or salad combo. We each had the lamb shawarma and it was delish! We ate it with a knife and fork it so huge! The food was fresh and hearty sized without being too heavy in our stomachs. There were a few dive bombing flies inside which were incredibly annoying, but other than that it was a clean dining area and kitchen. It wasn't amazing, so I'm not sure if I'd go back again.

Their chicken shawarma is the bomb. Marinated, tender, flavorful chicken, drizzled with that delicious garlic sauce, in their homemade pita. So yummy, I cannot stop thinking about it. I might have to ask for some extra garlic sauce next time. I'm excited to try the other items on the menu, but it's going to be hard not to order that amazing shawarma again. Place was clean, service was good, & best of all...great prices.

Le sigh -- I had higher hopes than I needed for this place. Because I have to have truthiness about places, here's mine: not really a fan. I had the #1 Meat combo plate and for the meat being the centerpiece de resistance there sure was a lot of what I call fatty gristle. As Sara (no 'h') would say: Ew! Other than the meat, the hummus was good and so was the rice. All sideshows compared to the main event. The side dip was what I thought was, dare I say, Ranch?! Let's pretend it wasn't and move on. My friend and I also waited about 15 min to get out food with one guy taking orders and cooking. Luckily another guy showed up to help. Try it there if you'd like.

I haven't been to many Greek/Mediterranean places here in ABQ but Yasmine's is definitely solid. The group that I was with all enjoyed their food and I really enjoyed the hummus and pita that I bought. The gentlemen that assisted us at the register were really nice and eager to assist us with drinks when we needed it. If you're craving a gyro or hummus. Make your way to Yasmine's.

Never a line, cheap prices, great quality. One wonders whether this is a front for another type of business. If so, i hope they never get busted because their food is delicious. I love filafel, hummus, baba ghanoush, chicken shawarma, etc.

I'm pretty sure that was the best gyro I've ever consumed. It's kind of consuming me at the moment, actually. I just checked in on the ol' tummy, you know, gave it a little test drive, just to be sure it hadn't stretched out or grown in size recently. Nope. Same limitations, only so much I can shove in there. Dammit. As I lie here digesting, I digress: Yasmine's is gooooood. I really liked what Clayton said, I have Foreign Flavor Bias (FFB), I automatically add a star to international fare simply because it dares to stretch our culinary norms. And really, gyro isn't foreign to me whatsoever; growing up in the Midwest, gyro was a "safe" alternative to almighty beef; Yasmine's gyro is my hero. Over the years (I ain't tellin' how many), increasingly complex and challenging mediterranean fare has quietly crept into the mainstream American dining lexicon. Praise Allah, it's about time. While I waited to order, I noted four men in thobes who were clearly feeling blessed to eat something from the homeland. And baby, I'll remember Yasmine the next time I want a fix. I'll dream of her baba ghanough, felafel and chicken shawerma, The hummus was my second fave, they absolutely do not pull punches with the spicy layer of green stuff across the top, prepare for fire. And the plates were rather massive, enough for seconds and possibly thirds. Salads left a little to be desired, but that's to be expected. Overall, this is a great choice around UNM/CNM.

I was visiting Albuquerque for business from Dallas and tried a bunch of places in town. I would say by far Yasmine's is my favorite place to eat. The food is great! Very flavourful, it was like a party in my mouth! The hummus was excellent and the lamb gyro was delicious! Another added bonus was the cheap prices! I recommend it to anyone looking to eat and support a local business!

I've been to Yasmine's about 3 times. I like getting takeout from there. Their lamb is delicious. Big tender chunks served up with rice and salad. Their kabobs come with a delicious garlic sauce that I could seriously bathe in. I know that might be gross...but it's that good! Try the pita and hummus for an appetizer. Yasmine's is serious when it comes to great food.

Hands down the best Mediterranean food in ABQ!!! I love the veggie platter, best spanakopita I've ever had in my life! We have tried the chicken kabobs and they are super yummy, bet there is something for everyone.

I usually stop here twice a month, before attending an evening meeting. My favorite item to order is the Vegetarian Combo Plate, which includes Babaganooj, hummus, falafel, spanokopita and pita. It is always excellent and filling. In the past, I've had the appetizer plate, which is very good. Tonight, I'm having the gyros combo plate, about $6.00. The falafels are warm and well seasoned on the inside, crunchy and satisfying on the outside.

Went to get some take-out lunch. Waited 45 minutes for a chicken kabob plate and an order of falafel. When I got back to work there was no falafel in the bag, although I was charged for it. Missed a meeting due to the long wait. There was only one table of people in the restaurant when I got there and they just had gyro sandwiches. I'll be going elsewhere.

This place was super amazing! Our service was top of the line!! Upon recommendation I tried the Santa Fe chicken! It was awesome! The pita was super delicious; freshly homemade at the location. My four children liked their burgers and the hummus was good too! Not vinegary! The bathroom needed attention, so if that is not a concern for you; eat here, they treat you like a celebrity and the food is amaaaaazzzziiiinnnggg!!!!

I visited this Restaurant last month (2/2015). I really enjoyed the food there. What I really appreciated was the service I received. I had a flight to catch leaving from Albuquerque. Yasmine's Cafe actually packed my dinner in separate containers so that the food would not get soggy during the flight out. So instead of overpriced crappy airport food, I enjoyed an excellent meal from Yasmine's Cafe. If you Visit Albuquerque, I would suggest you visit this restaurant. Excellent Food, excellent Service.

Everything was good. Well spiced. Attentive staff. Good light, flaky, and tasty bakwlawa. A pleasant meal in a relaxing environment. My wife hasn't had good Greek since leaving Omaha. We will be back!

Don't take this place for granted! If you have the chance to eat here, DO! The gyro is simply the best. It comes loaded with juicy meat, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, white onions, and topped with tart tzatziki. Oh did I mention they make the pita bread fresh, baked right there in the kitchen. Baklava is also amazing. It brings a tear to my eye when I think about it. Flaky, nutty, and lots of honey!

I'm biased in favor of restaurants that aren't New Mexican, Mexican, or standard American food in that I feel sometimes that my desire to enjoy a variety of foods and always have an array of options at my fingertips compels me to be kinder to restaurants serving cuisine from far away places. Actually, I may just be biased. Ask me if I care. I don't. But I do care that I reconcile my own pleasure in finding that Albuquerque is so wonderfully culturally diverse with my belief that I should deliver an honest and fair review of any establishment. Hence, I'll go ahead and say this place started off with five stars for serving middle eastern cuisine and for being owned and operated by people from the Middle East, but lost a whole star for their lamb shawarma. This isn't to say their shawarma was bad, as the white sauce alone could make almost any sandwich, but I was a bit bummed out by the lamb. In truth, when I think lamb and Middle Eastern, I think of the most seasoned piece of meat the world's ever beheld plus a tenderness that only non-food comparisons could achieve. But here, I found myself chewing too much fat, seeking out in each bite a flavor of long lost middle eastern restaurants I've been to in other cities, and thinking maybe this place was a one-hittter-and-quitter. But then I tried my wife's chicken shawarma. Se llama redemption. True story. All that tenderness and flavor I was seeking in my lamb was all along right there in my wife's sandwich. One bite of hers and I was then able to appreciate the bread, which the owners purport to be pita but it really seems like the bread from a torta having made love to pita and birthing a handsome bastard child. It was unique but still quite good. Add to this some good fries and a $15 bill and I was ready forgive this place for the disappointing lamb. Thus the four star rating.

I enjoyed this little gem! I went for lunch last week and had the gyro platter. The saffron rice was excellent, gyro with the white sauce was great and they were very reasonably priced and quick. Downfall would be the parking. There wasn't any place for me to park my car except up the street a little ways, right next to a dumpster and a guy sleeping on an outside sofa. It seems to be in a "sketchy" part of town based on the sleeping guy. But i went during the day time and I didn't feel scared. Dinner over there might be a different story though.

My family and I came here because of its halal status. The owner was very sweet and took good care of us. The food was pretty good. I ordered the Mexiterranean with hatch green chillies it was very fresh and yummy except for the hamburger patty which tasted like it was previously frozen. The chicken and beef kabobs looked yummy as well.

Stopped-in for lunch today, for the first time, and I was pleasantly surprised! While, yes, the atmosphere isn't the greatest, the food was excellent. The portions are quite generous, and well worth the moderate prices. The owner is extremely friendly, attentive, and proud - and it shows in the food. Everything was fresh and flavorful; a nice treat!

Solid middle eastern food and great value. I had the chicken schawarma and hummus plate and we shared a spanikopita. I was a little disappointed in the spanikopita because the fillo was soggy and not crispy or flaky. I'm guessing it was nuked :-( Restaurants need to learn to use the microwave to warm food and an oven to finish it...warm on the inside, not soggy on the outside. The chicken schawarma plate was outstanding. A dinner plate covered in a thick layer of hummus. On top of the hummus was a generous pile of spit roasted chicken. For about eight bucks this was easily enough to feed two people and the food was delicious. My dining partner had the beef shish-kabob which was rather tough and he referred to it as "...like overdone steak." Stick with the chicken or veggie options is my recommendation. We finished the meal with a couple of pieces of walnut baklava. Very good, some of the better baklava I have had in recent memory. There are two televisions in the restaurant, both running Dandana TV or some other Arabic music video channel out of New Jersey.

Best Greek I've had in Abq. I had the Vegetarian #2 combo and it was all just delicious, and very decent sized portions. I'll definitely be coming back!!

Consistently great falafel, hummus, tahini, gyro's, baklava, etc. I've eaten here many dozen times over the years and everything has been consistent. Having said that other reviewers seem to have had a different experience so caveat emptor. I wouldn't give this place five stars in a more metropolitan area that has dozens/hundreds of middle eastern eateries, but it's easily the best place in Albuquerque. In San Francisco I'd probably rate this 4.5 stars. This would be because of how many extremely busy cafe's there get their spices shipped to them from relatives in their respective home countries and their ingredients are fresher due to simply selling a much higher volume. This isn't a fancy restaurant, it's a cafeteria style place, which is in alignment with the fantastic (cheap) prices. There are lots of these types of places in New York, La, San Francisco, and Amsterdam. One note though: Not all "middle eastern" or "Mediterranean" places are the same. Each region and sometimes specific countries have their own version of individual dishes. While the basic components are usually same the spices/flavors/texture/garnish/etc. can all vary quite drastically. Hence Lebanese falafel can be very different from Greek, Israeli, and Palestinean. Even within a single country various geographic regions and even simply various families will often each have their own specific twist to these dishes. So don't be surprised if what you think of as a "good" or "authentic" falafel is different from what Yasmine's serves.

Great value, super-tasty shwarma sandwiches, and we left stuffed! On top of that, the young man who took our order and brought our food was exceptionally friendly. Can't wait to go back!

Good Arab / Mediterranean style food.. I think the owners are Palestinian, I am not sure if the food is truly "Palestinian" or sort of a hybrid of middle eastern cuisines that they feel would be popular with Albuquerque customers, but it seems to be consistent with my general impression of what "Palestinian" and "Lebanese" cuisine is like from other places I have tried in the US, in Europe, and in Brazil. I ate here about 50 times over the course of the past few years. I particularly like the chicken shawarma platter, which one can get on hummus or rice.. I recommend with hummus, but have had both options many times depending on mood.. Especially good if you throw some Mexican Valentina hot sauce on top, they generally have hot sauce available there. I like the desserts. I like most everything they have. The fact that they show Arab music videos (I think most are made in Lebanon) is a big plus.. A simple place where one orders at the counter and food is brought to you.

My knowledge of the menu at Yasmine's is somewhat limited, because once I tried their gyros I was never able to talk myself into ordering something else. You can get a lot of food here for cheap, and it's all cooked and spiced to perfection. My mouth is watering just thinking about it... For dessert, try their baklava or rice pudding. You won't be sorry.

This is a good, but not amazing, middle-eastern place. The food is generally good. I am a big fan of the veggie platter and the falafel. I also like the authentic basic decor with Arabic(music videos and cartoons). My complaints are that the food can be a little uneven. For example, I have been served stale pita, which is kind of a surprise. The staff cheerfully gave me a new plate of fresh and delicious bread but I was a bit shocked to have stale bread delivered to me. The Hummus is good but not my favorite in town. I prefer the Greek place (Mykonos) on Eubank for hummus. However the baba ganoush is outstanding. Overall it is my favorite middle-eastern (not Greek) restaurant in Albuquerque.
