Full blackened prime rib, ranchero style. Loaded baked potato. Creamy horseradish. Best meal in Albuquerque. I've been eating here for over 12 years. It is my get away spot for amazing food and great drinks. The service is always top notch. The owner is always attentive. The cooks have been there a long time, and know exactly what they're doing. I have never been disappointed when i make pelicans west my choice of food and drink for the night. Whether it be dine-in, take-out, or a beer and quickie off the bar menu. Just wow. Thank you guys for all the great meals.

Yummy, fresh food! We went there last night (Saturday), so there was a bit of a wait. We decided to eat at the bar. I first ordered a Mojito and it was very sweet, so I asked him to add soda water to the top and he did. My husband had a Bloody Mary and it was good. Before we ordered the bartender came out with 4 huge shrimp and asked us if we would like to try them... really?! Yes, of course! They were lightly breaded and huge! I could actually taste the horseradish in the cocktail sauce, which was perfect! This item can be found on the menu as Pelican Shrimp. I recommend them! If you get them off the Early Bird menu (order before 6:30), the cost is $17. which includes bottomless salad, a side, and I'm pretty sure bread -I think they forgot ours, but we didn't ask, because we were full after ordering the Ribeye Steak (amazing!) and the Bacon Wrapped Scallops. Service was excellent.

Our group has meet on the patio at Pelican's previously and this gathering was as enjoyable as before, even with a drizzly rain....With around 30 of us, we can stress the wait staff, but this staff was very attentive and kept up with our food and drinks orders (esp the drinks...LoL!!). We mainly ordered appetizers (lots of the Combo Platter) and early bird dinner specials - I heard lots of positive reviews of the Pinon Crusted Tilapia!!! Worth another visit? - of course!!!!

We were in Albuquerque a couple of weeks ago and went to Pelicans West. The food was good and the service was great. I accidentally left my sunglasses on the table I called the manager and someone there had found my glasses and put them in the safe. I offered to pay for the shipping to send them to me along with a tip to say thank you. They refused my money and sent the glasses to me by FedEx. I will go back and visit them every time I'm in town.

I probably would not have ended up at Pelican's but for the gift card someone gave me last Christmas. It's tucked away off of Coors and I've honestly never heard anything great about it. Surprisingly, I was not disappointed. Unlike the myriad chain restaurants nearby, there was not wait and we got seated on the patio as requested, which by the way was adorable. I would return to sit on this patio again...perhaps to try out the happy hour! I had the cheapest glass of wine on the menu (pinot noir) and it was actually good! They also had a few local beers on tap! We had crab cakes to start, and they were pretty standard....tasty, that is, served with what tasted like a chipotle tartar sauce - yum! I had the clam chowder - it was good because it wasn't too thick and had lots of clam in it! The hubby had the shrimp linguine, which was yummy, especially because it had nice plump medium sized shrimp (as opposed to tiny shrimp). The only dish I wasn't impressed with was the salad - It was an endless salad, but I didn't have more than one plate because iceberg lettuce doesn't suit my fancy. Service was good. Our waiter brought out everything at the right time and was on top of our drink orders! The only real criticism I have of the overall experience was that it was good, not great. I would definitely return to give the happy hour a shot. I loved the patio!

If you love scallops, try the bacon wrapped scallops. You will not be disappointed! I had had just a month at work...that's right a month. Came home and the fiance was there waiting and asked what I wanted for dinner. I said I want some place that I can get a drink (cocktail) and then a beer. That was my requirement, so we ended up at Pelican's West. There was a handful of people in the bar area and that was fine by me. We'd been to the Pelican's East but never this location. Legit! Why? Our server was AH-mazing! He went by the name Sparky. He was new but so attentive and nice. We actually ended up filling out the "how was your visit"comment card and mailed it in. Good service should be acknowledged and hopefully rewarded. Now, on to the food. We started with artichoke and it was cooked nicely. Excellent light flavor. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi and the man had Bacon-Wrapped Scallops. I'm not a big scallops fan but I would definitely order these bad boys, again. Shrimp Scampi was a healthy portion and the sauce didn't overpower the pasta. I don't care when there is a ridiculous amount of sauce that you can't taste the protein or pasta. I also had a salad that was crisp, cold, and flavorful. Now, to the scallops. there is not much to say other than - DELICIOUS! I would have eaten more but I filled up on the dumb warm bread that we had to start with the artichoke. No biggie, we'll be back and you know what I'll be ordering.

Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night with my father. We ordered calamari as an appetizer, which was unavailable for some reason. Instead we ordered the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail which was more like watered down salsa with shrimp and a huge side of chips. The complimentary bread was served with roasted garlic and butter which was more enjoyable than our appetizer. I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was good- fresh and light. My dad's rib-eye was cooked to perfection, he really enjoyed it. All in all, my experience was mediocre. I probably will be back to try the Yelp recommended Bacon-wrapped Scallops! Until then I have to give Pelicans 3 stars.

First time at pelicans. We ordered fried calamari and it was the smallest appetizer plate I've seen!! It was more like a "taste". I ordered the fish and chips and I was told that the fries was the side.... I always thought "fish and chips" was fish AND fries.. My girlfriend ordered the piñon tilapia and it had no flavor. She sent it back. My fish was fried dark brown and not golden brown. I had to drown it in malt vinegar to try to add flavor. I didn't not have a good birthday meal. Our waitress was very nice and professional. Doesn't look like I'll be going back there...

Not impressed. Being from the Pacific Northwest my expectations are high when it comes to seafood and unfortunately they did not deliver. Service was ok, a bit slow but the clam chowder was awesome.

After having dinner at Pelican's, I can honestly say this is the best seafood I've had in a really long time. And having grown up on the East Coast, I've definitely had my share. If you're in Albuquerque and looking for a seafood or steak place, look no further... you've found it. One of the things I liked best about Pelican's, was the attention to detail from start to finish. When I arrived, the restaurant was very busy... a great sign. The hostess had us seated quickly, and everyone I spoke with had a welcoming and genuine demeanor. Everything they served, from appetizers, to the entrees, even the dessert was all awesome and perfectly prepared. The Oysters Rockefeller were exceptional, and if you're in the mood for a cocktail, try the pina colada. Totally not my thing, but I had a taste of someone else's and it was great. I asked about it, and apparently they make them from scratch. The bar staff also prepared an "old fashioned" flawlessly, which was the perfect way to end the meal. They have a great selection of beers as well, in addition to a few local brews that were cool to try. To pull all this together, I was totally blown away. A well-deserved 5 stars.

I have dined here MANY times, but never yelped them. We arrived at the height of dinner hour tonight (Friday). Waited probably about 30 minutes for our table. Sat in a comfy booth by a window and we're promptly greeted by our server Gerald. He got us started on an app of grilled artichoke, which was AWESOME and we ordered a bottle of Bogle Shiraz (which was tasty!l) My honey had the Filet Mignon which he loved and I had the Pinon Crusted Tilapia. I have to say it was somewhat disappointing. It wasn't actually Pinon "crusted". It was okay, but not what I expected. But that being said, the meal was all over good. BTW the bread served with butter and roasted garlic was SOOOO good. I will be back. Again and again.

Good food but a little pricey. Ordered a calamari appetizer, but they were out?!? Got a Mexican shrimp cocktail and regretted it, shrimp in tomato sauce with sliced advocado. Ribeye and baked potato were delish as was clam chowder. Friend's fish and chips were good albeit a little oily. Overall nice change of pace, maybe for date night? But price high and food good but not great.

This was our first time to eat here for dinner after reading some of the reviews. Everything was good except the prime rib was not warm enough. The cedar plank salmon had good flavor but was a little too dry, so the sauce served with it helped. The baked potatoes and wild rice pilaf were really tasty. Our waiter was very attentive and made sure we were taken care of. The prices were a little high, but not ridiculous for seafood in New Mexico.

I hate having to do these. Often I just skip them to try and avoid being mean but.....this one is necessary perhaps bullet points are in order as there were so many errors in this (tragi)comedy. -No burgers. If you didn't know, Pelican's (NE heights only, apparently) is one of the best burgers in Abq. This location was out. It was a friday night. Please tell me how you don't order a giant stack of burgers heading into a weekend? 3 ppl at our table had to adjust our desires (ok, not the end of the world- yet). -Yes we were a table of 12, but is it not possible to drop a pitcher of water on the table if you are going to neglect our beverage refills for 5-10min at a pop? Server was friendly, but decidedly inept (never had this prob at the NE location!) -Ordered a charred Rib-Eye.....which arrived after an interminable length of time. Just curious, does anyone else expect blood to pour out when you slice into a medium WELL steak? Perhaps I was at fault for failing to specify "no pink," but geez louise! Really? at this point everyone was half done with their meal, so I simply told the server to just charge me for the fries but take off the steak. Went to the Supper Truck and grabbed a burrito. I could continue down this path of negativity, but if you dare, I truly hope you have a better experience than we did, as this was only a smattering of the issues we faced at this location. As I mentioned, I've been to the NE location multiple times and never faced anything remotely close to problematic. Alas, perhaps this location still needs some time to figure things out (haven't they been open for quite a while now???). All in all, dine at your own risk here, sorry.

Really bummed :-/ Pelicans is usually great - definitely falling :-/ Clam chowder not great tonight... Salmon bland and VERY small portion... Steak tough and chewy... Service always great here, but food way off the mark...

one of the favorites in town of my wife and i. you can go into there during happy hour and get great prices on the hors d'ouveres, and they serve you plenty. i have never gone away from here hungry. if you love garlic, get over here for the bread, butter and garlic they serve you while you are waiting. everything we have had here has been fantastic only reason for 4 stars----while we were seated at the oyster bar, and you get to watch the guys cook---ONE OF THEM WAS CHEWING TOBACCO--AND HAD A SPIT CUP IN THE FOOD PREP AREA--- something i really did not like seeing.

I was in the mood for shellfish yesterday so I headed for Pelican's on the Westside. Heard they stocked great seafood and I sure was not disappointed. After an initial face-off with the hostess who stared at me like my zipper was down, I was led to a quiet table. Place was almost empty, but began filling up quickly. My server was swift and quite attentive. I started with Oysters Rockefeller. The wait was longer than expected, but the server assured me they would be out shortly. I focused on the crusty bread while I waited. The wait was well worth it. These gems were cooked perfectly--tender, plump and juicy with a bit of spinach on top. Delish! For my main course, I selected the char-broiled scallops wrapped in bacon. Bottomless salad bowl was served with a side of dressing. Very fresh and a variety of veggies. The scallops were served with a huge baked potato with all the trimmings. The bacon that was wrapped around the large scallops was almost crispy, but still flavorful. Plenty of lemon and drawn butter came with. Scallops were succulent, tender and moist. The flavor and consistency reminded me of lobster. So good soaked in the butter. To top off this scrumptious meal, I decided to try their Key Lime Pie--great decision. The color was natural and not the artificial green that some places serve. Graham cracker crust really hung together and didn't crumble. This was melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Everything was quite delectable and delicious and the service was outstanding. I will definitely return for more of their high-quality seafood.

I eat here regularly. Don't expect anything fancy, but if you're looking for fresh ingredients, solid preparation and great bartenders, this is your place. They have the best house salad and cedar plank grilled salmon in town. They also have incredible cocktail specials at different nights during the week. No cheap, but you have to pay for quality.

We are only in ABQ for several months and trying different restaurants. Hands down Pelicans is the best we have discovered! The food is incredible! The service is spectacular! We are trying brunch today. Can't wait to see how they can make that an experience.

This is the *other* Pelican's. It's located in a strip-mall-y part of Coors, and I frankly like the other location's ambiance more. That being said, Pelican's is still pretty awesome. I love the shrimp Pelican. It's delicious, and it's what I order here every time. Also, I like their bar area, and the fact that you can eat in it is even better. Good TVs for watching sports, too. Decent beer selection, and they've always had nice bartenders when I was here.

Best fried zucchini in the Albuquerque area. Sliced thin and lightly battered. Early Bird specials offer smaller portions. Service was excellent. Ample bread and bottomless salad bowl a plus.

Been wanting to try this place for a while. I was on my way to Panera and decided to go here instead. I was expecting red lobster type atmosphere and prices. It's nothing like red lobster. Two of us shared a fish and chips and mozzarella sticks and rolled out of there. Portions are pretty large. Split meals cost 4 bucks but with that 4 bucks you get another salad/soup and another side. Good deal! The mozzarella sticks are really big and probably the best ones I've had. The fish was acceptable. Nothing more. I live in San Francisco so my opinion here may be a little more stringent than this place's normal patrons though. The atmosphere was somewhat dirty, particularly the bathrooms. They get attention but not extra care. Really a good seafood option in ABQ. Our bill before tip, very full, was cents over $30. That's a good deal

We had high expectations since there are few seafood restaurants in Albuquerque but we were disappointed. I had the tilapia and it had a weird taste. The baked potato had no flavor. My husband had fish and chips and they were greasy Even the iced tea had a strange flavor. The only good part was the salad which was crisp and fresh. The waitress was so sweet and pleasant that, when she offered to package our leftovers, we said OK, and then threw them out when we got home.

All I can say for a first visit, is that it will be our last. Slow service, flavorless food, and over an hour for the entrees to be delivered. We had high hopes, but left very disappointed.

The first time we came here years ago, it was great. Over the years, it's been a slippery slope down hill. My husband had the prime rib and it was just blah. I had the rib eye and it was fatty and flavorless. The best part was the fresh salad.

I walked into Pelican's about 4:30pm to pick up a to-go grilled chicken salad. It was very dark inside, almost empty and yes, it was a little like stepping into the 1980s (especially the music). Although I was originally disappointed I couldn't have my salad with the mushrooms and green bell peppers I wanted, the salad I got came with a variety of lettuce, baby tomatoes, a green onion, carrots, and a most delicious homemade ranch dressing. Although I ordered extra cheese, I got a little bitty container of cheddar (which the awesome ranch dressing more than made up for). It also came with homemade croutons and a side of their bread, fresh butter, and garlic. Besides really loving the ranch dressing, the grilled chicken was excellent too. Tender, thick, and juicy, with black pepper seasoning. Perfect ingredients for a great salad. I believe I'm hooked.

Service was great and my husbands filet was very good, cooked well and tender. I ordered the shrimp and was a little disappointed as they were a little greasy. We had the mushrooms for an appetizer and they were amazing. Love the roasted garlic! We have eaten here many times in the past and had the fried catfish, it was fabulous. Miss the sweet potato fries they used to have and the prices have jumped since our last visit but we will go back.

I went here recently for dinner with my husband. We only had to wait for about 15 minutes before we where shown to a table. The service was excellent and we received a really good loaf of bread with butter and roasted garlic right away. My husband and I both got the clam chowder, which did not disappoint. My original order of the pecan encrusted halibut, sadly, was served to me with a weird thick breading that was soggy and the fish was mushy. However, I told the waitress the problem and she brought me the menu so I could get something else right away. A little later the manager came over and apologized for the earlier plate of food saying that it was not prepared correctly. He told us that dessert was on him and thanked us for our business. The salmon that I ended up getting instead of the halibut was cooked perfectly and my husbands crab legs were divine. Good job on customer service, Pelican's.

My fish and chips was a little over cooked and dry. Another person at our tables salmon was so under cooked that she had to send it back. The server was very nice and attentive but the food was just okay. Maybe ot was just an off night since others in my party said the food is usually much better.

Awesome happy hour; really good food. Part of the charm of this place (I guess) is that when you walk into the door, you're stepping into 1988. It's clean and whatnot, but it seems so dated. It's nothing they should change though. The last time I was here was for happy hour and I ordered Absolut martinis and I swear that each martini was two (they bring the shaker to the table). I typically skip the bread at restaurants, but you cannot do that here - smear the roasted garlic on the bread and enjoy - amazing. They shuck a pretty mean oyster too, if that floats your boat.

Haven't been there in years and things have changed. Loved the thin sliced fried zucchini squash. A really yummy appetizer. Loved the roasted garlic served with the bread! Don't miss the clam chowder, the best in Albuquerque! The cedar planked salmon was awesome! The crusted halibut was delicious. All four of us were very pleased with the service Nathaniel provided as well as the taste and quality of everything we ordered. We will definitely be back!

My sister and I visited Pelican's earlier this week. It was Martini Wednesday, which means all martinis are $5.50. The Dirty Bird was fine, a little too dirty. The happy hour food of calamari and peel and eat shrimp were great. The music was fine (old 80s music). The best thing about showing up at opening (4 PM), the crowd is minimal. You have time to talk to Jeremy, the bartender, and relax. This is definitely our next hot spot for the week. We've brought our parents here a couple of times because we all love their clam chowder soup, very, very, tasty! Plus the raw oysters are pretty good too!
