Everybody has That One relative. Be they uncle, second cousin, in-law or God forbid parent, you know the person I'm referring to, here: reclusive, they generally remain locked away in their refrigerated abodes, forwarding pro-NRA emails to you, enjoying frozen dinners and Ensure, lately they can't stop talking about Benghaaaazi. You'll find televisions in virtually every room of the house, simultaneously tuned to FOX News, the sound muted. You'll visit once or twice a year, if you're lucky, and be reminded that they actually control the American agenda. When these people actually emerge from their castles, Jimmy's Cafe welcomes them for breakfast or lunch. FOX News is indeed on the TV in the corner, muted; the food is just bland enough to make Rush Limbaugh consider a bite of huevos rancheros; and the waitresses call ya Hun. Mine did, it was kind and pretty disturbing, actually. She looked to be in her late 20's or early 30's. I'm betting sweet, gently comforting sentiments and smiles are a daily occurrence here. Clientele surrounding me were treated like family, and I was called Hun by a waitress in her late 20's, repeatedly. Awesome. And have you ever wondered why That One relative is particularly obsessed with the movie industry? I mean, I get that movies capture particular time periods of our lives, they bring back memories and the like, but That One relative has a seriously weird appetite for film. They keep re-watching Adam Sandler comedies and they rave about Stallone's latest action flop. This demographic is the reason these films continue to be made, actually. At Jimmy's, many of these icons of the silver screen are embellished on the walls in kitschy reverence, on the one hand eye candy and on the other, rather random. But none of that matters. Jimmy's offers a menu for the entire family at a price point that won't make That One relative go off on a tangent about Benghaaaazi. If you need to get them out of the house, come here.

Great spot for lunch...if you get here before the mad rush. The food and staff are wonderful! Very friendly people. I can't say I've had a bad meal/service here ever. They are known for the creamy green chile chicken soup. It's thick, hearty and the chile usually has a good kick to it. I pretty much always get the southwestern pastrami sandwhich for lunch coupled with the above mentioned soup. They use good pastrami. Not too lean, not too fatty and the edges get nice and crispy. It's filling, but not too filling to where I slip into a food coma when I get back to the office. Another important thing...this place will never get robbed or burn down, atleast during the lunch hour. It always has law enforcement and firemen eating here!

Jimmy's hits the spot. Love the Albuquerque turkey and the cream of green chile soup is AMAZING! There are plenty of yummy options to choose from. Prices are pretty good. Only cons are that it is a little cramped inside and not too comfortable but the food makes it worth it. I do not personally think it would be the best place to take kids just due to the size. There needs to be a location on the westside too!!

Denver Egg White Omlette with Turkey Sausage was MONEY! Whole thing - GONE! Great service and Cholula Hot Sauce upon request! Shhhhh!

I came here for breakfast. The cafe offers New Mexican and traditional American items, like pancakes and French toast. I had the carne adobada enchiladas with green chile, hash browns, pinto beans and a fried egg on top. It was done perfectly and the service was speedy and friendly. That was the positive. The negative is that the atmosphere at the café turned me down and that my coffee pot didn't look clean. If I'm in the area and want to get a quick, good meal, I'll come here, but otherwise I wouldn't go out of my way. Note: The portions are quite generous.

We decided to eat here because, for a long time, we have been simply driving past it. This time we STOPPED to have lunch. Thankfully we arrived at 11:30am before the mad rush. At about noon, there was a "wait". We looked over the menu and saw lots of interesting items ranging from Mexican food to pastrami sandwiches. I ordered the pastrami with green chili and my g/f ordered the patty melt. Both were very good! I ordered the famous green chile chicken soup which tasted good but was far too thick for me. The french fries were good but we wanted them more crispy. The service was great and friendly. Our waitress has worked there for 6 years. There is essentially NO turnover. Oh, there were about four police officers there also! It's apparently very safe! We will be returning again. I prefer this place to Wecks.

I ordered a lunch burrito and it was pretty good in terms of flavor and texture except for the fact that it was spicy. I ordered the carne adovada burrito (unaware that it was going to be spicy). My friend had the Green Chile Chicken Enchilada and he enjoyed it also. Worth checking out if you're in the area! I'll stop by there again for breakfast to try that out some time.

Everything remains true to my initial review. Only thing that's changed is our office is now close by so we frequent Jimmy's and after repeated visits individually, as a group, and with to go orders, I can say hands down this place rocks. Routinely great food, and fast and friendly service.

Came here for breakfast on a Sunday. It was busy but our party of two was seated promptly. Our waitress, Kate was very nice and attentive. I tried the Southwest Eggs Benedict. Aside from my meal being cold it did have a good flavor. I am more accustomed to traditional eggs Benedict being served with Canadian bacon but I really liked the flavor of the sausage. I tend to prefer my hashbrowns to be crispy and they were white- barely browned but other than those two issues my experience was positive. The owner even came by to collect our plates and apologized about my meal being cold and thanked us for letting him know. I would still recommend Jimmys and will definitely remember it next time I am in town.

Had an awesome lunch today. My colleague had enchiladas and I had the California turkey with a side salad. The total was only $20! There were so many yummy sounding things on the menu it was hard to decide. I'll be back!

I've eaten here several times but I felt compelled to write this review based on what I ate today. I split the breakfast enchiladas with shredded beef and it may have been one of the best sized and tastiest breakfasts I've had in a very very long time. I'm guessing it was maybe just over 500 of the best calories I've ever spent. The wait staff here is awesome and tries very hard to anticipate your needs without preassuring or crowding you. I have a few friends that eat here almost every day and it's very clear why.

I really enjoy going here. This place reminds me of the small cafe type places I would eat at back in the midwest (minus the chile). The service has always been fast and attentive and the food is really good. I'm speaking for breakfast here. I have not had lunch here yet. The atmosphere is really nice. I like all of the movie posters and memorabilia on the walls. It really makes for some good conversation. I guess the only downside here is that one wouldn't want to bring a large group here on Saturday or Sunday mornings and the coffee could be a little better.

Jimmy's is a wonderful place for breakfast! Service is excellent and food is great and reasonably priced! The owner is usually there and walks around and checks on customers! Definitely one of our favorite spots! A must try!!!!!

What a fantastic spot for breakfast! Nice diner ambiance, tons of locals and police officers (that's how you truly judge a diner), great wait staff, and fantastic food with great portions. I will be having breakfast here every time I am in Albuquerque.

Best spot for breakfast in this part of town. The specials before 11 are gr8 deal. Everything is good but the green chili is some of the best in town.

  • Wes T.

I've seen this place a thousand times since it's so near my office, but never made it in. I'm glad I finally did pop in here. Fun, down-home-y vibe. Movie posters on the wall, along with a random mural. Whoever this Jimmy is, he loves the cinema. The food was great. I had the chicken fried steak skillet. Also tried the green chile stew. It was all wonderful. Service was good. Our waitress was a little flustered with the crowd (this is a popular lunch spot on the weekends, it seems), but she kept us filled up on drinks.

Love this place, haven't had a bad meal there ever! Everything I order I get with a cup of cream of green chili chicken soup, it is pure puppies and sunshine in a bowl! Get that with a breadstick you won't be disappointed.

Traveling through town on our way back from Philmont, and found this place. Perfect stop for a mix of late breakfast and lunch. Plus we found out they're big scouting supporters, and the business namesake is an an Eagle Scout.

Love this place. I've only ever went for breakfast but have tried many things and enjoyed them all. I highly recommend the breakfast quesadillas!

Jimmy's one of the best diners in Albuquerque. The food is delicious and nutritious. The service is amazing. And the prices are rocking. You won't be disappointed.

So we found this place just up Jefferson from our hotel. Since coming to New Mexico, I've been in love with the green chili. So this morning, knowing it might be my last chance for some I didn't hesitate. I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito smothered with jack cheese and green chili sauce. Now, I mentioned I love green chili, so when I state this place has amazing green chili, I'm NOT KIDDING! It also was the spiciest I've had so far, which was a bonus. Now don't let that scare you from trying it. If you can't handle the spice, ask for it on the side. The wait staff and check out lady were all very nice, and we didn't have to wait for anything we asked for. I wish I could transplant this place home with me

  • Ania A.

This is a great, unpretentious place to go for an honest plate of comfort food. The atmosphere is cozy, reminiscent of something you'd find in a place much smaller than Albuquerque. The staff is super friendly. The food is un-messed with and delicious. And the prices are fantastic for what you get. Fair warning though, it can get super busy around lunch time, and for good reason!

    (4)
  • Jonathan M.

Great little place to eat. The food is delicious and the pricing isn't bad at all. The sodas are double the size of your average restaurant, so you don't have to worry about waiting for the waiter/waitress to bring you a refill. My wife and I will definitely be eating there more often.

Military discounts (I think it was 50%, but don't quote me on it). Our original plan was to dine at Subway during lunch break from our vball tourney, but Subway was closed for whatever reason, which was fortunate for us because we got to try Jimmy's Cafe. I've passed Jimmy's Cafe numerous times without giving it much thought, so I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and service here. I tried the Albuquerque turkey sandwich, which was really good! (A lot better than the Subway sandwich I would have gotten if they were open). It had just the right amount of heat without having my mouth on fire. The staff was very nice as well. All-in-all a great experience. If you're in the area, stop by Jimmy's Cafe and try their Albuquerque turkey sandwich!

Heard lots of good things about the food here. Maybe I went on the wrong day, wrong time? Service was very slow, food was even slower. Will not come back here again.

Jimmy's simply hits the nail on the head over and over again with a solid staff, great business processes, fair prices and continually provides this year after year. I have no gruff in saying this is probably one of the cities absolute best restaurants year after year. This restaurant is a bit tough to find. To get here, Take I-25 Northbound to San Antonio, San Antonio westbound to Jefferson, and Jefferson south about 300 feet or so. The restaurant is cleverly hidden behind a SubWay and trees to keep the obnoxious kiddies out. I found that the restaurant serves an eclectic blend of Mexican Food, Pizza, Breakfast items, sandwiches and soups. Everything is good, but the real secret here though, by far, is the soups. Jimmy's makes a creamy green chili chicken soup that is to die for. It's tangy. It's salty. It's buttery and tastes oh so good with the knockout bread sticks. At a price of a lousy $4.72 you can fill up on the greatest soups in Albuquerque and still have money left to have a nice fountain drink and be on your way. If I had to really dig for something bad to say about Jimmy's, I'd suggest that the decor is becoming a bit dated and the interior of the restaurant is probably due for a refresh. I'd imagine the traffic into the location makes remodeling impractical though. We also see a big lunch rush that often makes it hard to find a table. But why complain when the service is so good, and the food really is worth writing home about? "Friends don't let friends eat at Weck's". When can we have a far east side and west side location guys? If you don't have the money to build - based on your traffic volume I bet you could get away with raising prices a bit!

The Huevos Rancheros was great; blueberry pancake was delicious, and can't beat the before 11am price. The service was excellent. The decor is neat. If you are traveling and want to eat at a local place, try this place; you will be pleased.

I stumbled upon this place during my trip to Albuquerque. Awesome sandwiches and soup! I had the Albuquerque turkey, perfectly toasted with just the right amount of avocado, cheese, green chile, and turkey, along with a side of creme of chicken soup. I enjoyed this so much, I dropped by later the same week before I left to head back home! The service is great and very friendly too. I highly recommend this place.

The staff at Jimmy's has been voted best in ABQ for a reason. They are fast, friendly and attentive. I love the fact that I can meet my husband and my toddler here during a busy weekday lunch hour and it's no problem. If you have a kid under five you know what I mean, I've been sat next to more bathrooms than I can count! The food is above average cafe fare. I love the breakfast scrambles and I've had pretty much every single sandwich on the menu and I've never been let down but I'm particularly fond of the Albuquerque Turkey. During the winter I love to order a bowl of beans and red chile or the outstanding green chile stew -- everything is homey and wonderful. Before you leave, they always insist on giving you a drink 'refill' in a to go cup, how nice is that? You can go back to your office and have something to sip on for the rest of the day.

Very good food, attentive service, and a really fun atmosphere (we had fun trying to guess all of the Jimmy's that lined the walls!) Big burrito was delicious and smothered in fabulous green chile. Banana nut pancakes and bacon and sausage skillet were also delicious. Our first time here - we'll definitely be back!

Love it... I go here every time I'm in town. So good! The chile is amazing as is the Breakfast Burrito!

I gave this place three chances and had the same experience each time. The food was okay, no complaints but nothing special either. I really felt bad about inconveniencing the staff, however. They clearly had better things to do than seat me, take my order, and bring me some food. All those things got done, but in a grudging, desultory manner. So I decided not to add to their misery and took my business elsewhere.

I am new to Albuquerque and New Mexico in general, but the carne adovado burrito smothered in red chile sauce was really amazing and the best local food "new mexican" food I have had so far. My fiance had the Santa Fe salad, which was good as well. The staff was friendly and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely go back. The sign said they only serve breakfast and lunch.

Great Eggs Benedict with hash browns! Added a side of sausage links that are medium spicy. Kate did a great job taking care of me and made for a great relaxing breakfast today

  • Love D.

For breakfast I had the Huevos Rancheros special, which is served 6:30-11:00 am. My waitress recommended, thank you. The pancake combo was another hit. The plate was filling, hash brown, sausage, 2 pancakes, 2 eggs. For lunch the french dip, croissant with salad and iced tea. The waitress recommended the croissant bread instead of the french bread. Two eggs and chicken fried steak, was chosen instead of the skillet chicken fried steak, which is chopped up in the dish. Added green chile sauce as a side, but it wasn't spicy for our liking, very mild. But still tasty!

  • Ashley E.

I tried the Chicken Philly, the Albuquerque Turkey, their soup, and their cole slaw. I have to say I was disappointed that they forgot our cream of green chile soup on our to-go order, so I had to drive back from my office for it AND The soup was SOOOOO thick, it was strange. It was mayonnaise consistency. However, the sandwiches were DIVINE--just scrumptious, really. I loved them. Toasty, spicy with the chipotle mayo (which, I usually HATE chipotle but this was killer)...just solid sandwiches all around. I saw a few other peoples' food around the restaurant that all looked good as well. I'll definitely be back!

Read the previous reviews, some yay, some nay.....I'm firmly in the yay camp, but with room for improvement. The good: Service was excellent, attentive, and polite. Food was solid, though I'll complain lightly about the fact that everything is mixed into the egg in the omelette. I like my "fillings" to be just that, fillings. Please partially cook the eggs, place the "fillings" inside, then fold over the eggs, as an omelette should be. Also a salsa other than pace or la victoria would be nice, though not an absolute. Eggs benedict was rather artfully presented, and was well received, so we'll give a thumbs up for that. The bad? not much, just the aforementioned omelette style, and some better coffee would be nice. I'll happily pay 2.79 for a *good* cup of coffee, rather than 1.89 for a crummy cup of coffee, any day of the week. I know some would balk at that, esp at "Abq pricing," but not me, you just can't skimp on the coffee quality. all in all, a solid 4 stars, you won't leave hungry and your wallet will be proportionally lighter as you certainly get what you pay for. Two solid thumbs up, and i'll report back when i have time to try the breakfast burrito.

One of the absolute best Mexican breakfasts I have ever had. Two eggs, two strips of bacon, two sausages, pintos and hash browns both with melted cheese on top and a terrific green chili sauce. I'm talking really, really well done. I'll be back coming and going on next trip to Telluride.

Pretty tasty bacon breakfast burrito. Red & green were both tasty, but I did prefer the green. They were slammed at 930 on a Sunday so the service was a bit slow but I'd definitely come back & try some other items on there huge menu.

  • Mary-Ann M.

They have the best creamy green chile chicken soup in town but seem to run out of it almost every time I go there. It is obviously a popular menu item so perhaps they should increase the amount they make each day.

Great place for breakfast! Loved the French toast and service was excellent. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town!

Jimmy's B'fast - *excellent, tasty green chile - not much heat, but creamy and flavorful *many choices, New Mexican and not *open early (6:30am on weekdays/7am on weekends) *weekday b'fast specials *trivia bonus - Can you think of a famous Jim/James/Jimmy/Jamie/Jiminy that's not featured on the memorabilia packed walls?

This is a pretty solid place for breakfast with a very interesting interior decor. The service was good and we were seated right away after arriving on a Saturday at 7am. The dish I got was the breakfast enchiladas with Carne adovada which came with two eggs, some of the best hash Browns I've ever had, beans, as well as some lettuce/tomatoes and the well reviewed, green chile. The green chile has good flavor to it and definitely includes a kick as well while the hash Browns were fried to crispy perfection while still being soft on the inside. The enchiladas themselves were pretty tasty with a tender pork inside of corn tortillas that were topped with the green chile and cheese. I would definitely recommend this place!
