Ugh, really?? I cannot believe that this place is supposedly the "best pizza in Hoboken". We ordered a small Margherita pie to go and paid about $20 for it...we had some high expectations to fill. The Crust: Classic thin-crust that I found to be more doughy and less crispy. Not terrible, but it flopped under the weight of the toppings. In addition, I was not a huge fan of the charred flavor that their coal brick-oven added to the pizza. The Sauce: Sauce is a touchy subject because everyone has their preferences. For me, the sauce's balance of tang and sweet was skewed too far towards tangy. The Cheese: Small medallions of fresh mutz that were flavorless and chewy rather than soft and melty (NOTE: perhaps this was because we got the pizza to go, but our apartment is only two blocks away). Ratio of price to satisfation?? Not good.

I wanted to try some of the famous East Coast Pizza. I think this place with the perfect selection. The pizza it was absolutely amazing and service was fine (quick and efficient, not overly friendly but not rude) it was not too busy either.

Favorite pizza in Hoboken. Light, tasty and fresh. Service is great too. Awesome over all.

Wanted a good pizza place that we could sit down have a beer and a good pizza. Found the best place ever. Simple menu was the first sign of good things to come. Also just the smell in the place you knew you had good food being made. Ordered the pizza and with in a few minutes it was being served. Thin crust from a coal brick oven. The crust is amazing and had a light smokey taste. Not over cooked. Toppings were great, we had meatballs and roasted red peppers. Fresh mozzarella is also a nice touch and tasted amazing. Then the sauce is also amazing and fresh. The only problem with this place and the pizza is its gonna be hard to have pizza at another place and it measuring up.

So... I have been to Grimaldi's in Brooklyn and Grimaldi's in Hoboken. There is definitely a difference. Unfortunately for the Hoboken locals, Brooklyn is much better. That being said, its still pretty good pizza. I do recommend eating at the restaurant vs getting take out. When eating in the restaurant the pie comes out crispy and delicious. When getting take out the pie/crust gets very soggy. I'm not sure if they do something different, but the 5 minute walk back to my apartment seems to ruin the pie. Its still edible at this point, just slightly disappointing. Either way, the pizza is still good and is one of the better places in Hoboken. If you cannot make it out to Brooklyn, give this a try.

The pizza is very good! I wouldn't wait in a very long line to get it but I'm sure by the time you do get in and eat, it's worth it cause you're starving. I especially liked the beer selection. The staff is very good here. They are helpful if you can't decide what to get. We had the pizza margarita. Excellent!

Grimaldi's is my favorite pizzeria after Lombardi's. At the beginning I thought they were at the same level, but no, Lombardi's is much better. Bear in mind that the original Grimaldi's pizzeria is at DUMBO in Brooklyn which makes a big difference. Why? Because water in Brooklyn is better and different from Manhattan's and New Jersey's and this fact affects the quality of the dough. However, Grimaldi's in Hoboken is more comfortable for large groups, lines clear faster and waiting times are reasonable short. Any pizza here is good, their fresh mozzarella is fresh indeed, and tomatoes actually come from San Marzano in Italy. Pizza Margherita is so good, but I also like to make my own combination of meat balls, extra fresh mozzarella, ricotta cheese, garlic, pepperoni, olives and red onions. So GOOD! I prefer pizza well done so it turns overly crusty, recommended. The green salad is delicious too. The anti-pasto, jeez, you've gotta have it too. And tartufo is really good here. Service is good, haven't had a problem with them. Prefer Sping and Summer since I can sit outside and drink a bucket of Corona! As opposed to Grimaldi's in DUMBO, this location do take credit cards which for me is important. I have eaten here at least 10 times, plus have ordered to pick up another 5 times and can never get enough.

This Grimaldi's is the hidden Gem in Hoboken. It is not nearly as packed as their other locations but the pizza is just as good. Get a Large Pie and get the Anti-Pasti. You'll love it!

Very tasty pizza for coal oven thin crust. A crazy list of toppings which makes me a fan. There will be a long line if you arrive around peak times for it is just that popular.

  • Dorian P.

This pizza is amazing! It tastes just like Grimaldi's in Brooklyn, but without the 45 min - 1 hour wait! I ordered the Pepperoni & Sausage with red sauce. The mozzarella is so fresh and the coal oven just makes everything taste awesome! Always comes out perfect and tastes delicious! Even the burnt edges taste good! You haven't had pizza until you've had Grimaldi's!

The pizza is the best you can find in the area. The staff is very helpful and on the ball. The calzones are huge so there will be plenty to take home. Love the toppings and the beer was very cold and just what I was looking for.

Yummmm!!! Met some friends at Grimaldi's for some damn good pizza. On their recommendations, we got one white pie with broccoli and another 1/2 margharita, 1/2 pepperoni with extra basil. Mmmmm MMmmmmm!!! Delicioso! The white pie was my favorite loaded with lots of garlic. The broccoli was fresh and cooked to perfection. Just thinking about it, I want a piece right now! The margharita was also good, I didn't try the pepperoni but heard it was the best. The place was half empty, although it was a Monday night. Our server and the rest of the staff that helped us were friendly with great timing. Although the pizza is excellent, I would MUCH rather go here and enjoy the atmosphere and food, than wait on line for the same thing in Brooklyn. Also! Great insider tip - they validate your parking for up to 2 hours when you park at the garage on 4th between Clinton and Grand. Very convenient considering the parking nightmare in that area!

Heard the rumors about Grimaldi's - best pizza in Brooklyn, yadda yadda. I'd say the line to get in was an indication - took a half hour on a cold Sunday night to get into the place. Really good pizza, really fun place. Thin crust, totally old school. The seating is pretty tight and they do try to get you in and out of there quickly, but I didn't feel rushed, plenty of time to warm up and enjoy. Crust was awesome, fresh mozzarella, the real deal ingredients as far as sausage, pepperoni, olives, etc. Plus the music was the stuff I listened to in college - Sex Pistols, Clash, early Cure. Classy! Definitely recommended - maybe try to go in the mid-afternoon or later towards closing time if you don't like to wait in line. But it's worth the wait anyway.

The pizza here is outstanding. If you like Brooklyn-style, thin-crust pie with fresh mozzerella, then this place is for you. My favorite is the extra sauce with the extra cheese. I've been a loyal patron of Grimaldi's for almost 20 years. Finally getting around to writing the review now...

My fiancé and I went to Grimaldi's tonight for some take out. We ordered a personal pie and a spaghetti and meatballs to share. When we got home, we opened up the pasta and were both stunned at what we saw. It was a pile of spaghetti with a ladle of sauce splashed over it. In real life, pasta is supposed to be cooked (or for those of you who are culinarily limited, mixed) with the sauce. If I wanted pasta with a spoon of sauce on it, I would have had a newborn make it for me. Also, the pizza was decent, but I found it to be floppy and rubbery as is most pizza in this town. Overall, I would say that the quality was butt. Dem' meatballs were good though.

Ordered a large pie and hot wings for take out, late on a Sunday night. Got pepperoni, mushrooms and basil... garlic comes on all their pizzas. Pizza was ok; perhaps would have been better if I had dined in. However, their wings were on point! Wings were grilled to perfection, not soggy from too much sauce... just right! Some of the better wings I've ever had. Definitely worth checking out!

This place has the best eggplant pie EVER. I always order delivery and the pizza comes on time and fresh. I took off a star because: 1. They are not on Seamless which is annoying when I have to call and pay with a card. 2. I ordered fried mozzarella and the cheese didn't seem too fresh and gooey. Other than that, rock on Grimaldis!

Amazing pizza! Best place in Hoboken maybe all of New York for pizza. Great neighborhood feel and the owners are so welcoming. Pitchers of beer are fresh and go down well. Super friendly staff. Great service! I love their pizza! Super fresh. Amazing dough and fresh mozzarella!

Went there today for the first time - ordered a pie and garlic bread. The server misunderstood garlic bread for a garlic pizza. Brought out two pies for two people (that should have been a clue to confirm the order) he said he was sorry and he'd box up the extra (unordered) pie for us to go home with for the price of the garlic bread -($9 BTW). We said he didn't need to do it, but he insisted and apologized again. We got the check and he charged us for the garlic pizza ($18)....$49 for a pizza, a pitcher of soda, and a pie we didn't order. NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL. I understand high prices for quality products, but being charged for things we didn't order and then didn't want to take with us is not something I need to put up with since there are over 20 places in this one square mile town.

Great pizza. Good every time I go. The dough is cooked perfectly, great sauce, plenty basil and yummy cheese and pepperoni. And then the beer is served in jugs. Awesome!

Good pizza but they're prices are, according to the waiter, "a mistake". The gluten free pizza is actually $12.75. Feel a little duped. The menu said $9.75

Solidly good food, but didn't find it amazing with one exception. Let me start by saying I'm a Southern Californian, so maybe my idea of a "pie" is skewed, and I haven't done a whole lot of NY/NJ tasting.... That said, while the spinach and sliced tomato pizza I shared with my friend was good, it didn't have as much flavor as I might have expected. I have had pizza in NYC before and the sauce definitely had more flavor. It wasn't bad at all, and the cheese was better than average, but I was able to stop after two slices (meaning it wasn't "compelling"). We also got an order of mozzarella cakes in Grimaldi sauce. These are slices of mozzarella that are breaded and fried and served with red sauce. Now these were AMAZING (enough so that I just upped my rating to four stars). We also shared a side order of meatballs -- not amazing, but surely above average. Honestly, I'd come back for the mozzarella cakes, but would not likely select pizza. Menu is a bit short/limited. Service was average. But the mozzarella cakes were amazing!

Came here recently late Sunday night and sat down for a quick pizza and beer. I love this place and I love pizza but I ordered a large white pie with half ham. I think the crust was the best part and the pizza as a whole was good but I was really expecting clumps of ricotta cheese on a white pie and I got nothing. Just Parmesan, mozzarella, garlic and a little basil on top, then the sliced ham placed on three slices. I was left less than impressed but I know that it was probably bad timing since they did want to get out of there so I will still recommend coming here.

Delicious pies. My favorite is the margherita. But you must eat it in the restaurant, not for delivery, as it does not travel well. Yes, I do like this grimaldi's marginally better than the one on Washington but they are both great.

  • Shadzi W.

Mediocre food. I got the antipasti salad and every ingredient in it was from a can !!! The pizza was okay, however cheapest grade of ingredients were used to make it, the only good thing about it was that it wasn't too salty or oily. I liked the fresh mozzarella and basil on the pizza though. Next time I will just get the margarita pizza.

I gave Grimaldis 4 stars strictly because of the quality of the pizza. We ordered half pepperoni/half white with fresh spinach, mushrooms and ricotta cheese. While many pizza places don't like doing half regular/half white, our waiter was very accommodating and the pizza came out perfect. It was delicious. I do have a few issues with this place though. First of all, it's not a byob and their wine is very expensive. Actually everything is expensive. We ordered a bottle of wine, antipasto, and a pizza and the bill was over $70. Also, the antipasto was very plain. It was four pieces of cheese, two pieces of salami, 4 olives and some roasted peppers. The atmosphere was also nothing special. Basically I would say order a pie for takeout from here because it is amazing, but don't expect the best experience if you are dining in.

Awesome pizza. Pizza done right. Best part is the sauce, cheese and crust. Dont ruin the real flavor with toppings

Dined here last night with my Book Club, so we had a large group of 9 people. The waiter was very attentive making sure we had ample wine and water. We ordered 3 of the "Salad" and split them among the group. Yes, that's the name of the salad. It has romaine lettuce, tomato, red pepper, mushroom, and an Italian vinaigrette. It is very tasty. We ordered three large pies, 1 plain, 1 with eggplant, and 1 with half mushroom / half pepperoni. We also ordered 1 gluten free pizza for someone with a gluten allergy. The large pies have 8 slices each. They do not do a particularly great job slicing the pizzas though, as some slices were quite small and others the size of your plate. They should really work on that. Their pizzas are delicious though, with the freshest ingredients. I had a slice of cheese, eggplant, and pepperoni. The eggplant was by far my favorite. I thought the pepperoni was a bit too thick for a pizza. The fresh mozzarella is great, and I love that the pizzas have a thin crust. My friend with a gluten allergy raved about her gluten free pizza. She said it's the best gluten free pizza she ever had and that it was crispy too! We ordered a couple of cannolis and an ice cream truffle for the table. I can't speak for the cannoli, but the truffle was delicious. We had the Cookies and Cream one. Highly recommended! I've also dined at the Brooklyn and Washington St (Hoboken) locations and find the food to be on par.

I'm never returning here again. Let me begin with that curt statement before explaining why and my obligatory quote from the greatest comedian on the planet. I've come here to the Clinton St location probably five to six times despite my one Yelp check in. Each time the food has gotten progressively worse at an obscenely high price, but that's not even the issue. I came with my friend during the Leprecon celebration a few weeks ago however despite all the loud drunken bozos, were were 100% sober and looking forward to a nice meal. The service was pathetic. I understand that the restaurant is tiny, but to have one server on a busy Saturday is inexcusable and says a lot about the owners mindset about creating a quality atmosphere for guests. I don't blame the server during the meal as she honestly seemed to be trying her best. I'll get back to her later. Now lets get to the food. Here's the positive, the soda provided wasn't flat. Whoopty damn doo to quote former NJ Net Derrick Coleman. This pizza was bad. No two ways about it. I get there might be "off nights" but it looks like Grimaldi's said "everyone will be drunk anyway so who cares about the quality". It was underdone to the point that I was concerned if the dough was cooked. I wasn't going to send it back because honestly if you can't cook a pizza right the first time, I don't trust you to put it in the oven again without dropping it. Back to our overworked server. So I asked for our bill at the end at the abomination of our meal and it seemed pretty high for what we purchased. I go over the bill and note the tip of 20% was included without being informed of this at any point prior in the evening. This is a shady business practice and when I inquired about it, was told it was for "one night only". It's obvious Grimaldi's was taking advantage of the drunks who came through for pizza that evening. I don't take kindly to this, but honestly I was with my friend and not in the mood to give the smug gentleman at the door a true piece of my mind. What I do know is there are pizza places in this town that don't take advantage of customers and provide a superior product and service. All I know that I didn't catch a break when I decided to say "hey lets do Grimaldi's tonight". Never Again!

Visiting from California and read the reviews. Definitely order the pizza pie. It was amazing. Wings were pretty good and the salads were fresh. Dressing on the side is a must. Cute and quaint atmosphere. Service was good but attitude questionable. Must be the New Jersey thing.

Best pizza in Hoboken! The pizza here is just like their original Brooklyn Bridge location, but without the inconvenience of the long lines. The mozzarella just cannot be beat. I dread the day that I move from Hoboken and can no longer fulfill my Grimaldi's cravings. My only complaint is that I wish they were open for lunch.

Best pizza in Hoboken. Love the fresh mozzarella on the pies. Perfectly charred and flavorful crust.

Yessssss!! this place is legit! came here on a sunday afternoon with my brother who recommended this place. whilst waiting in line for carlos' bakery, we needed to eat immediately! we walked to this location, and the restaurant isn't that big, but does have outdoor seating. We ordered a small margherita pizza to go!! do not let the word SMALL, fool you. It only took 6 minutes to make, but daaang was it good. The slices were huuuuge, and was able to feed my family of 5. Details!! while studying abroad in Rome, I definitely got my taste for REAL pizza. And since then, i have not come across a US pizza place that delivers the same taste....UNTIL grimaldi's! yes it is that good. First the pizza was oven-brick baked. the crust was thin, and toasty, so you definitely tasted the burn from the oven brick! mozzarella was phenomenal. The basil accented the whole dish, with the marinara sauce being not too bitter! Simple GREAT ingredients make for a huge tasty experience. Yes the pizza was a bit pricey, $15, so what, you want good tasting pizza, and you want to say you had good pizza from NY, then come here!!! Service was nice, the place has some TVs!

    (5)
  • D C.

Not impressed. The crust while nice and crisp was bland. The white pizza had a nice fresh mozzarella but lacked seasoning except for a few burnt pieces of basil. Large areas were just crust. Service was excellent but it didn't make up for the flavorless pizza.

Love this place. The pizza is absolutely amazing. I havent eaten 4 slices of pizza in my life and did so here. I could barely walk !

  • Tim E.

Man the best pizza in town, they use very fresh ingedients. The mozzarella was fresh. Let's just say I thought I was getting fresh ingredients here in LA but I have been lied to until eating here at Grimaldis. NY pizza is the best! The lines are super long here. We waited close to 45 minutes but it was worth the wait.

Ladies and gentlemen - the establishment that finally got me to sign up for a yelp account. I've been reading reviews forever. In fact, I'm a iPhone yelper - I love going to towns and cities and just letting Yelp and my iPhone point the way to food. I've had a few of the big time NYC power players - John's, Lombardis, etc. But this was THE pizza that rocked my world. The fresh mozzarella. The crust... not too stiff, not too thick. The sauce - would've loved a little more, but the large cheese I had for lunch today was also my dinner on the drive back to Boston tonight. Hey this is Sinatra's hometown so you know they're gonna do you right. The neighborhood is off the beaten path for a NYC tourist. I'm sure it's easier to get to the Brooklyn location. But if you're staying in Jersey, head down to see the Statue of Liberty, GPS your way to Grimaldi's (get takeout, there's no reason to eat in... it's nothing special inside) and head down Frank Sinatra way and park. Munch on your pie and enjoy the Manhattan skyline.

  • Sui B.

Good food and good service. I tried the olive and mushroom, tomato and extra basil, as well as the garlic bread. Pizza is freshly made but the crust does get super hard towards the edges. I also find the flavor to be a little bit on the blend side.

    (4)
  • S B.

Everything tells me I should like this place but it's just never happened for me. Criminally expensive, usually overcooked, and not very filling. I always finish it and am still hungry. It's just not destined to happen for us.

    (2)
  • Greg S.

Best pizza in Hoboken, if not all of Hudson County. This is one of the only places, if not the only place, that makes a thin, crispy crust - the cheese and sauce are also above par.

    (4)
  • Jeff M.

One of the best brick oven pizzas Ive ever had...It competes with Patsys thats for sure. I used to get a large pizza for myself, but now I need to get back into shape, so i get a small pie with garlic and pepperoni! My mouth is watering right now as i type. If your with your significant other, and shes a small eater, a personal pizza will be just enough. Thats really it, they dont have a big variety of desserts. But if a great brick oven pizza is what you are looking for, u better leave your house now and go there!

  • Matt E.

I've been to the original Grimaldi's in Brooklyn a number of times so it was only fitting when I passed this outpost without any lines in Hoboken I had to give it a try to find out if it was up to the original. Sadly it wasn't but that's not to say it wasn't still great. The pizza is about $20 for a large with a topping. They skimped on the basil and I found the crust a little dry and the pepperoni to be too thick and bland. The sauce was great as was the atmosphere and service. If you're in the Hoboken area and want a solid pizza that's better than your typical slice then look no further than Grimaldi's.

  • Neil R.

After leaving this place, I was left with the impression that I had one of the best pizzas ever. And I think that is probably close to true - but the "best ever" may be a little hyperbolic. But when talking about food - who isnt? We ordered a simple pie with pepperoni and onions for two of us - it was excellent on quality and quantity. The cheese was cooked well and the bread was soft enough yet definitely had the right "crisp" to it (if that makes sense!). A pitcher of beer is a great addition, although they do not have a huge selection there is probably enough of a variety to find something that works. I would definitely go back. The service was quick and pleasant. The price was right for the quality and portion size. In my view, definitely worth checking it out if in the neighborhood.

Really good pizza! Great place for pizza and beer after work in the summer months and sit outside!

    (4)
  • Caroline L.

On the ambience only - they didn't have room to seat us but I thought the restaurant's ambience wasn't that great. There wasn't a ton of sound proofing in the ceiling so overall, the restaurant was very loud.

  • Cat S.

Great coal over pizza. Pizza comes out more burnt on the edges and softer in the middle because of the type of old ovens they use (coal based). They sell only by pie, but you'll be glad you got a whole pie. Nothing fancy, simple pizza parlor decor. I've been at least three times, it's never super packed. Pizza is delicious. If you are looking for a pie in Hoboken, can't think of a better pizza.

    (4)
  • Brian S.

Best pizza in Hoboken. Everything else I have had on the menu is pretty mediocre but whats wrong with you order the pizza. If you go here and drink a beer and eat pizza and do not leave happy then you are dead on the inside.

  • Amanda M.

Went there on Friday and sat outside. Service was subpar and the place is run-down! We asked for parmesan cheese to sprinkle on our pizza only to realize "after" dinner that there were bugs in the container. When we informed the waiter he took it cleaned and refilled it but we were already finished and not a word was spoken about it after?!?! The place needs a facelift and I was expecting a manager to apologize for bugs. Won't be returning anytime soon. Place needs to be cleaned!!!

Worst salad ever. I asked for a mixed green salad with grilled chicken and got a sad sad looking salad with a side plate of cold pulled chicken that tasted as though it had been sitting out for a week. Never ever go here.

  • Tierney B.

Nice little pizza spot on Washington with outdoor seating and cool little bar restaurant setting inside. Our pizza was amazing! We added a few toppings which was almost too much it would have been stellar as cheese only or one topping. The mozzarella was mouthwatering and it had a solid sauce. Service was average. Nothing bad or standout. Pricing high. But then again it's Hoboken.

    (4)
  • Maria A.

Hands down the BEST pizza in Hoboken. Thin crust, brick oven cooked perfection! If you are craving pizza, this is where to go. They sell by the pie, not by the slice.

    (5)
  • Mehul P.

Some of the best brick oven pizza I've had. I work down the block from them. I love their margherita pizza. You really can't go wrong with whichever toppings you add. I prefer eating at the restaurant. Its just not the same when you take out. The pizza is prepared fresh and is nice and crispy. The restaurant is very nice on the inside and is a good place to go with friends or family.

Very tasty pizza and usually not crowded. You can't go wrong whatever pizza you get. We ate here 1/3/15 and enjoyed it. The salads on the menu are good, too.

I'm tempted to give Grimaldi's one star, but I'd rather save that for restaurants that serve food that's dangerous and/or completely disgusting. But I've eaten here many times, mostly because I'm friends with someone who likes it. And I have to say, it's some of the worst pizza I've ever had anywhere. I'd rather eat frozen supermarket pizza or Domino's. The crust is always soggy. It's not crisp except at the edges. That's bad, people. Also, I get that Grimaldi's has gotten attention for its pizza by doing some things differently. But there are reasons why almost every other pizza place does things differently from Grimaldi's. Grimaldi's is wrong! The cheese and sauce don't completely cover the crust. So eating the pizza is an exercise in trying to bite it in such a way that each bite gets a relatively even distribution of sauce and cheese, and inevitably failing. The fresh basil is good and a nice touch. But otherwise, the pizza's seasoning is very sub-par. Their sauce is too sweet and light, and not tart enough. And there simply isn't enough sauce and cheese on the standard pizza. You can order extra sauce and cheese, but then the already-soggy crust can't take it and gets even mushier. In the neighborhood, I've tried Tony Bolonie's and Domino's, and both are much better. For Hoboken as a whole, so far my favorite is Napoli's. When I've taste tested delivery against Napoli's, most of my guests preferred Napoli's. I understand that everybody needs to try Grimaldi's, because it's famous. But I think a lot of the Grimaldi's love is because it's famous and does pizza differently and so people think they're supposed to like it because different = high quality, right? But it's not. The pizza just plain sucks.

Crazy as it is to say... there's something different about their pizza. Come here for a great pizza.

  • Shara S.

It doesn't love up to the hype... I'm so disappointed. I was really looking forward to delicious pizza.. But the crust was soaked through with the sauce in less than 5 minutes. The second slice I eat was literally dripping water.. The pizza was very bland didn't have almost any salt or seasoning. Service was ok. I wish this had been a better experience.

    (2)
  • Joe B.

    1) Food was average - pizza a bit undercooked. 2) Service was bad - took forever to get a soda refill and pretty much everything else. I'd return to the Washington St one, but not this one.

  • Sarah K.

When I first tried this place, it was really good. But since then I felt like the quality was going down. Not to mention that it is pricey for pizza... Its OK, I will go here on a day i'm really craving pizza but that's about it. For the price, I expect better quality.

    (3)
  • Diane K.

Best pizza in the area! This location is off Washington which makes it a little less crowded. We usually get take-out anyway. Thin crust and all fresh ingredients. Have never been disappointed.

Yummy ! I would say that this is one of the original pizzarias that are still around. With fresh ingredients it's tuff to not get addicted to the ever tasty slice of heaven

Pizza was delicious. The service was iffy. Workers were sometimes a bit rude. But what do you expect? You're in New York.

I am not a huge pizza person but I think this may be best pizza I have ever had. It was incredible. We got a half white pizza with garlic and half original (plain) and seriously... so good. I don't even like marinara or pizza sauce usually but I was dipping the white pizza in the sauce on the other half of the pizza. If I could do it again I would get a whole plain pizza but the white pizza is still good - it just didn't compare to the regular. Amazing. Will be back!!

Lots of good options for pizza in Hoboken. After a few experiences with Grimaldi's, I think you can do better than this.

Great pizza. We mostly get delivery and they usually come in 30-45 minutes. Some days are better than others but overall the quality of the dough, mozzarella and basil are fresh.

Amazing pizza, so-so spaghetti and meatballs and somewhat poor service. Definitely worth a visit, however, service is slow to respond for such a small restaurants and only several tables when we went. The pizza is certainly one of the best in the area. The spaghetti needed more sauce. The sauce was ok.

Great pizza. Ridiculous delivery policy. I'm 1.5 miles from them in Jersey City and the guy who answered the phone 1) Claimed he had no idea where I was and 2) That they only deliver in Hoboken. Most logical people choose a delivery radius as there are parts of Hoboken that are father than me. I don't mind logical rebuttals but Grimaldi's gave me a silly answer.

Ooooo. Yummy yummy yummy. I'd like to put 4.5 stars because this pizza was great. I got a large pizza with meat balls. I was afraid after ordering it that my 1 topping would leave me disappointed. I'm happy to say, that's not the case. It's a bit pricey for a pie and the sauce I wish had a little more flavor, but each bite of pizza made me smile so all in all it was great.

While hoping that Fillippo's will recover from Storm Sandy soon, I decided to find a substitute pizza in Hoboken and decided to try Grimaldi's. I've been wanting to try this place out since I've heard many great things about its original Brooklyn location and had high expectation. As you can see from my 3 stars, it didn't meet my expectation. For fairness, I think it does deserve more than 3 stars, just not 4. I ordered two large pies; one with 4 toppings and other with 3 toppings. Jack on the phone was nice and courteous, but asked me if I knew that they charge "per topping". No brainer, I thought in my head... doesn't all places charge per topping? Yes, but not $2.50 to $3.50 per topping! My fault for not asking! :) They said it'll take 10 minutes for pick up and it was FAST. I hung up the phone, put on my shoes, walked over few blocks, and there was my pizza. I was slightly irritated to pay $57 for two pies, but decided to suck it up and try it out. Everything was fresh and flavorful, and the dough was nice and moist. I could KIND of see why they were charging so much for the toppings. Everything tasted very fresh and delicious. I still think they could charge a little less. What resulted in 3 stars? the sogginess... (and they messed up my toppings between the two pies) The center of the pizza was falling apart and couldn't hold its shape. I think it could have been much better if the dough was slightly thicker? Regardless, I'm just not a big fan of soggy pizza. Will I go back there? prooooobably not. Not because it's a terrible pizza, but I just think I could get better pizza somewhere else for much less $$$.

First of all you NEED to try the mozzarella pockets (?). It is delectable. The cheese is not regular mozzarella, or it must be some home made mix. It just melts in your mouth. Its fried, but not crunchy, just smoothe. The pizza was some of the best. We had extra crispy meatball and plain. Also the Caesar salad was top notch. Some places have sketchy dressing, but you can tell this was the fresh homemade stuff. Not the cheap store bought kind. The service is quick. They have booze. What more can you ask for?

Best Pizza in Hoboken. This place is packed sometimes but I like the atmosphere and how they serve the pies. Pizza is delicious (brick oven pizza). There is another location on Washington I havent tried but I would imagine it is just as good. Outside seating is nice and quiet street.

Fresh ingredients all the way around. Nothing is frozen or comes from a box - even the mozzarella is homemade. It's just pizza - but it's the kind of pizza place you could take a date.

After hearing the buzz about this place for so long, we were delighted to see that there was one in Hoboken. We live about half an hour away and got some take-out on the way back from the city. Take-out was quick, only a 15 minute wait. We got the large pizza - half white with mushroom and half regular with pepperoni and mushroom. I tried the white pizza first and it was so good and garlicky. I must say the regular pizza with the tomato sauce is so much better than the white. The combination of the fresh ingredients, the sauce, the crust and everything else, was perfect. I think this has got to be the best pizza we've ever had and will gladly drive that extra half an hour just to get to awesome pizza! Yummy!

My boyfriend and I decided to order in the first time he and I had a lazy weekend at his place. I must say at first I was a bit skeptical but since our relationship was fairly new, I decided to work on taking a leap of faith. Boy I am glad I did b/c the pizza was sooooo good. I now demand roasted red peppers on my pizza!!! The ingredients are simply deli-sh and there is no other was to say it. Now, I've never eaten in the restaurant but I was there long enough a couple of time to know its a great place. If you are in the neighborhood treat you lips to some Girimaldi's. I have to stop writing now b/c I'm salivating way too much.

I went here with one of my girlfriends last Friday because she said that pizza was "the best I ever had". I love pizza and I'd heard of the one in New York so I figured what the hell why not. The pizza was just okay. It wasn't bad or anything but I guess I just expected more. We ordered a large margarita pizza and got fresh garlic on half. I wasn't impressed. I plan to try the one in NY the next time in Brooklyn but I doubt if I will be making any special trips to Hoboken for this. the only good thing was that they validate parking.

It's hard to willingly give 5 stars in a time when I usually knock down a restaurant for being too expensive, but honestly, Grimaldi's makes up for its slightly iffy prices with the best proper brick oven pizza I've found outside of NYC, and the best bar none in Hoboken. The sauce is tangy but not sweet, the cheese perfectly measured, the base a filling yet not bloated thinness, and the whole thing just delicious. I had pepperoni and meatballs - a favourite with the brick oven places - and it was just a delight to behold. The only downer was that on a Friday night, they quote us 55 minutes. Totally worth it for a delicious pie.

Quality is now spelled G-R-I-M-A-L-D-I Let me first remind you all that my opinion is of course subjective in every way, and in no way do I claim to be able to speak for any of you. The tricky thing about restaurant reviews is that people's tastes are so specific and subjective. Personally, the heat which I prefer my spicy is at a level that would make most grown men weep, but it is our differences that make the world such a special place. With that said, please keep that in mind my subjectivity whilst you read my review. Why the disclaimer, you may ask. Well my dear friends, and yes I consider all my readers my friends, I have great news to tell you all. After years of searching, I think I have found, dare I say it, my favorite pizza place in Hoboken. That is correct ladies and gentlemen, in a town littered with bars, sushi houses, and pizza places, I think I have found a place that I can call my favorite. On the corner of 2nd and Clinton, Grimaldi's is a walk that I can consider a voyage, especially for lazy bum like myself. The pizzeria has a very classic yet clean kind of feel to it. The pictures along the wall and the red and white checkerboard tablecloths made me feel like I've stepped backward through time. My guest and I were greeted very warmly by the wait staff and were free to choose whatever table we liked. The servers were attentive and incredibly quick, so quick in fact that our food came out faster than I could read the history of Grimaldi's namesake that was printed on their disposable place mats. Offering only pies, I hear the pizza is at its best when enjoyed fresh out of the oven in the restaurant, so if it's your first time don't do delivery. They spectacular service was only outshone by the quality of their food. Grimaldi's is the only coal brick oven pizza that I've come across in Hoboken, and they serve up delicious gourmet pizza. While it is one of the more expensive pies in town, you really taste the quality of the pizza. It reminded me of my favorite pizza place of all time, Lombardi's in New York City. It may not be exactly the same, but there are many similarities in style and quality. We ordered the large pie with sausage, pepperoni, and mushrooms. The triple threat of crispiness, smokiness, and quality blew me away. My first bite seemed to wake my tastebuds from a thousand year slumber, while the next nearly made me cry tears of joy. After growing accustomed to a certain style of pizza in Hoboken, Grimaldi's was a refreshing change of pace. As if the pizza wasn't enough, I tried their Spaghetti and Meatballs, which also did not disappoint. There was a slight spice to it that made me devour the plate instantly. I didn't really care for the side of strange crisped Italian bread they had served with it, but I finished the Spaghetti way before I could complain too much about it. I finished off with a Tiramisu, which unlike the handmade pasta and pizza, was probably bought and served. Don't get me wrong, it was still pretty good either way. I have given up arguing with people who has the "best" pizza around. I've found that those arguments only lead to violence and bloodshed. You always hear the same arguments for the two pizza powerhouses of Stevens, but I found Grimaldi's to be a refreshing change of pace. I am not trying to convince you that they are God's gift to pizza; instead it is my aim to get you to try new places and expand your dining spheres. Now go forth countrymen, taste the difference for yourselves and form your own opinions! It is my hope that you can find a pizzeria you call your own, and remember, if you're going to fly that flag, you better fly that flag!

Simply the best Margherita pizza. I have had many of the other pizzas as well, but for some reason they don't hit the same spot as the margherita. Part of it is that the pizza is very wet, and with other ingredients piled on, the pizza has a tendency to fall apart. It's nice to have such quality flavors packed into one bite. Their sauce is delicious. The mozzarella is fresh. They're good at what they do.

    (4)
  • Paul R.

Great pizza, but mozzarella salad was a bit weak. The small pizza is enough for 2 but, as we found out on our second trip there, a large gives you leftovers! We got a small pizza with roasted red peppers and meatballs. Both times. Yes, it's that good. House wine was alright, but it's not a large selection.

Finally got Grimaldi's for lunch at work. It's probably the best pizza in Hoboken, although it's not as good as the Brooklyn location's pie. The cheese is very flavorful and the sauce's consistency is just right. Just wish they'd be open for lunch every weekday rather than just Fridays. Delivery ordered via card incurs extra 2% fee.

  • John O.

Good pizza but this is not nearly as good as the Brooklyn location. I like the fact that there are no lines and you can pay with your credit card. Service needs to improve.

My review of Grimaldi's is pretty plain and simple... I am a big pizza fan. Scratch that, a HUGE pizza fan. So being able to hit up a Grimaldi's in Hoboken is definitely comforting. The coal brick oven pizza with fresh sauce, basil and mozzarella is really good. You're going to pay a premium for this pizza, but it's nice to take a break from the standard pizza now and again.

Take out was ridiculously quick - in and out in 20 minutes. We ordered white pizza with basil and garlic. Brick oven. Thin crust. I would definitely bring some out of town friends here - this is what east coast pizza is all about. It almost makes me sad that pizza just isn't the same in other parts of the country.

I picked up a pizza the other night and I was thinking about how much I love this place. I've probably eaten pizza at Grimaldi's 20 times since I moved out east. Lately, their pizza hasn't been perfect, but it's still very good. I can't think of too many places I'd rather have as my neighborhood joint. Oh - and for what it's worth, their pepperoni may be the best I've ever had on a pizza.

Exactly what I expect from a New York pizzeria: Great crust, fresh ingredients and a nice place which does not feel like a closet or a warehouse. In Hoboken!

We tried in vain to find a parking space for the Grimaldi's location in Brooklyn. That is the last time I rent an intermediate size car when attempting to visit the city and PARK. Thanks to the trusty Garmin, we made our way to the Hoboken location without a hitch. We even found a parking spot one block away. I will definitely be back as I agree with everyone else that Grimaldi's pie is wonderful.

Rolled in there tonight. Mozzarella was bad and the pizza was mediocre. Good service and great atmosphere confirm this place is an institution. For whatever reason, it just didn't do it for me.

Nearly $30 for a two topping pie and two 20oz Cokes is insane. Sauce and cheese had a nice flavor. Crust got rubbery in transit. Maybe It'd be better for dine in rather than delivery.

I've eaten at Grimaldi's several times, and twice with big groups, and they were so accommodating. It's a great place to eat with a big group since you can order a bunch of different pies, and it's so laid back and affordable (I'm referring to the Clinton St location - haven't been to the Washington St one yet). I would highly recommend the plain (wonderful, simple flavors!) or the garlic, since I personally can never have too much garlic. Best pizza in Hoboken, hands down.

  • Astra G.

I like their crust, nice and chewy yet thin. There is a good proportion of mozzarella and sauce too. We got the sausage as our topping was I thought was okay, it was a bit strongly spiced but did not have enough salt. I was expecting this place to be really expensive but it's totally affordable. The beer selection is not bad and there are beers on tap. The outdoor seating was nice and the waiters still gave us attention even though we were outside. The place was pretty quiet on a week night in case you're trying to avoid a crowd.

Im a HUGE fan of making my own pizza. For times that i dont want to make pizza myself, you better believe that Grimaldi's is where im going. Its a bit more expensive than the other pizza's in the area but its just an overall better pizza to begin with. All in all its worth it if you are looking for good brick oven pizza.

Grimaldi's is the perfect example of a small pizzeria getting a bit of recognition and expanding too quickly. Quality suffers. Especially here. /End rant.

I ate in grimaldi's on Clinton more than 6 times since I moved to hoboken. Pizza and service are 5 star. Fast service greate pizza very delicious crust, Well done. Salads where not that good. small portion for $8 that's crazy. So I tried delivery on Saturday night. And man, delivery was so fast. Within 30 minutes I got my pizza and it was very very hot . You can see the smoke coming out of the box. I never heard anybody complain about the delivery service at grimaldi's. Not even one bad review comparing to napolis, Tony boloney, and more. Good delivery service I defenatly order again and again.

3.5 because one pizza was great and the other was ok. Pizza in Northern Jersey and New York are a whole lot better than 99.9% of what I can find in my hometown of Atlanta. We checked out Grimaldi's for the first time tonight and thought that the pizza was good. We had two large pizzas- one with garlic, mushroom, and spinach and the other with pepperoni, peppers, and onion. Just a warning, toppings are really expensive about 2.50-3.50 depending on what you get. We ended up paying almost $60 for two pies. But to their credit, the pies were huge and well done. Each pie had a base of fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil. Very nice. The garlic, mushroom, and spinach was my favorite of the two. The crust was well done, and the tomato sauce was fresh. The one with the pepperoni was ok. It was a little on the soggy side, and something just wasn't right about it. I think I'll venture to other joints in the area to check out pizza in the future, but I think that this is a solid establishment in the Hoboken neighborhood.

Meh... A hollow representation of what grimaldis used to be. The original had a fluffy and incredible charred crust, fresh mozz that was insanely flavorful and pizza sauce that was san marzano tastic. The grimaldis in Hoboken delivers that same amazing crust, but everything else falls flat on its face. The cheese and sauce are flavorless. Ive never had fresh mozz or pizza sauce so bland before. I felt ashamed that I had to ask for garlic and parm to wake up the flavors of the pie. Even then it was meh at best. I look forward to getting over to Juliana's where the original grimaldis used to be. Sadly, the Grimaldi name has become nothing but a corporate chain pizzeria

I've been wanting to try Grimaldi's for the longest time, but Brooklyn is a long way to go for pizza when you live in Morris County, NJ. Even going to one of their Manhattan locations is a bit of a hike, so I was happy to see that Grimaldi's had locations in Hoboken. My girlfriend came here on a Saturday night in July. There were some people sitting and eating, but overall, not too much activity, so we were seated immediately with no wait. For our appetizer, we split the Mozzarella and Tomato Salad, which was good, but just average, especially when I'd come here specifically for the pizza. I never knew of anyone who came to Grimaldi's for their salad. The salad was good, but forgettable. For our pizza, we got a large pizza that was split half white pizza and half regular (tomatoes, basil, cheese). I've never been a fan of white pizza, but my girlfriend wanted it, so I agreed to the split. As for the half of the pie that was the Grimaldi's standard (tomatoes, basil and cheese), I was pleasantly surprised. It was really yummy. I can't help to wonder, since Grimaldi's in Hoboken uses a coal oven, does it get any better over in Brooklyn? As for the white pizza half of the pie, my advice is to skip it. The white pizza has way, way, way too much cheese on it and sits like a bomb in your stomach. As for the service, no complaints. They were friendly and attentive. If you're looking for great pizza in NJ, check out Grimaldi's in Hoboken. Just don't order their White Pizza. I'd definitely have their regular pie again tho.

It's good, but not the best I've had. Crust was soggy so when u hold the pizza it just droops down. I like pizza u can eat without worrying all your toppings are going to slide off with the rest of the cheese.

Solid pizza stop in Hoboken. The decor is pretty nice, no issues finding seating during the weekend, and it is actually rather spacious. There's outdoor seating to boot, so extra brownie points (too bad it is now just getting cold -- slow uptake on this review). It obviously isn't Brooklyn Grimaldis, otherwise I'm sure this place would be beaten into the ground. But as it stands, it's very good for what it is - a cute place to grab a pie of pizza. It can be a little bit on the pricey side in comparison to other pizza parlors in the area.

Best pizza I have ever had, and the sausage AMAZING, true Italians run this place. If I had one complaint it would be that it's too expensive, but hey! Get what ya pay for

I'm giving this 1 star because apparently 0 stars is not an option. This is our first yelp review but we are compelled to write one after the horrific experience we just had. What a colossal mistake eating at Grimaldi 's!!! So we are feeding a family of 4; mom, dad, a 5 yr old & a 2 yr old. For starters the bill was $79. They have four items on the menu & one of them is cold antipasto, which includes 4 green olives, 2 slices of thick oscar Mayer grade salami and the poorest excuse for "fresh mozz." The mozz was dry, rubbery, and tasted like plastic, beyond bland. The roasted red peppers to be fair, were not horrible-without question the best tasting item of the night. Next comes the pizza for which we are really excited about. We order 2 personal pizzas and a medium pizza. The sauce was horribly bland. I tried to put crushed red pepper, which I don't normally eat to give it some flavor. It was still tasteless with red pepper & Parmesan cheese. The pie was way undercooked & soggy everywhere. Overall a dreadful eating experience. We are now driving home to the suburbs & had to stop at D & D to get a different taste in our mouth. To say that this place is not recommended is the understatement of the year. What a shame!!!

Expert advice: Freshest pizza ingredients in Hudson county translates into the best pie. I've eaten at all the rest (nod to Benny tudinos slogan) and this is the best I've had. Still waiting to try the place on 14th and grand strip mall for final confirmation. HS Giovanni is my fav slice place if that helps anyone understand my pizza prowess. I like Benny's for what it is- hot and cheesy and a classic parlor. Napoli's tries hard and it's better than most but I've been disappointed lately with buffalo chicken pie there, I think they freeze pies and heat them up, the chicken is dried up like jerky. Improvements: Grimaldis is a weird phenomenon. Google their family history. They have been fighting for decades. They are rapidly expanding locations now. Trying to get while gettin is good. That leads to bad service. I called the Washington st store once asking of they deliver and the guy running it was soo nasty in the phone. So stressed probably, he must be so in debt buying the name. Clinton store charges 2% credit card charge. Also a bad biz move bc I think you attract more flies with honey than vinegar. Recently ordered spaghetti and meatball. Don't bother, very dry just get pizza. Like I said the interesting family history means they can only do one thing right. Pizza. (Not service or other food)

I absolutely LOVE Grimaldi's! Decided to come here since hey, I've already been to Brooklyn and Manhattan's locations. They all taste the same. This place is so spacious, I think the downstairs with the bathrooms alone are bigger than the other two joints! There's also outdoor seating, which was great to bring my puppy in. We always get the half and half (red and white sauce) pizza with sausage on top. Yummmm! What I also loved was how there was a guy playing guitar and singing random songs from Miley Cyrus to what seemed like his own songs. Great weather today and soothing music in the background...love it!

Over priced! The pizza was "okay", nothing fabulous. Extremely overpriced for a pizza. $25 for a small pie is crazy. I wouldn't recommend this place to others. Hoboken has many other more reasonable choices for a delicious pizza.

Awesome pizza. I drove an hour just for this. Don't let the negative reviews fool you. If you order a take out pie, and don't expect it to be altered by the time you get home, you are ridiculous. The crust stood firm. It was the perfect amount of crispy/chewy perfectness. The sauce was amazing. It definitely was a fresh array of tomatoes and spices. The cheese was a pleasant consistency of bubbly fresh mozzarella. We ordered 3 pies. One plain. One meatball. And one with ricotta, sliced tomatoes, and garlic. The garlic pie had an amazing aroma, accompanied by a great, and not overpowering, taste. I will definitely be back.

I first heard of Grimaldi's Brooklyn location when looking up the highest rated establishments in NYC. I wanted to frequent it yet was discouraged by the mentions of long lines. I consider myself an orderly person but when waiting for food, depending on how hungry I am, I tend to turn into a not so patient person who people may not want to be around. Luckily, for the sake of my nerves and those around me, when I moved into Hoboken I discovered it had not one but two Grimaldi's locations, neither of which have long line. I prefer this location to the one on Washington street because it's a little more tucked away. I have taken it to go and ate here a couple of times. I would recommend eating in because the pie tends to get cold somewhat quickly and it just doesn't taste the same as it does warm. In case you don't know, they only sell pies here and don't sell it by the slice (something my friend found out the "hard" way). If you don't feel like having 6 or 8 slices on your own, you can order the personal pie which is 4 slices and more manageable. The place itself is cute and quaint, nicer than most pizza places I have been to yet it's not pretending to be something more. The service is pretty quick and friendly, not exactly memorable but good either way. Now to the pizza itself, I usually get the Margherita and it is exactly what I look for in pizza: it tastes fresh yet not overwhelming with flavor, pretty soft, thin slices without much greasiness. It reminded me of the pizza I had in Italy which tasted very different than the slices I tried in the US previously. The taste was much milder and everything just tasted fresh. Grimaldi's is similar to that but with a little extra kick of flavor. I read that some claim the location in Brooklyn has better tasting pizza than here but I find it hard to believe because this place is simply amazing and I now compare every slice I get elsewhere to Grimaldi's and I have yet to find one that lives up to it.

Great coal fired pizza, one of the better pizza spots in hobo! The ingredients are fresh, the crust is thin but not to thin, crispy but not to crispy, right amount of sauce to cheese ratio!! Just goood pizza...

Recently went back and ate outside for the first time. Love the outside tables, definitely a chill place to relax and take it all in. The service was ok, well intentioned, but lacking all the same. Also, we added ricotta, onions, and mushroom toppings, and I think I like there pizza better plain, the toppings can make the crust a little soggy. I also think I have thought that before, but always forget when I order. Small pie was $23 with the above toppings and also half pie with sausage. In case you're like me and never remember if you need a small or large pie, a small pie gives two people 3 slices each, and it's always a struggle to finish the last slice. Salad appetizer is good to share.

Had a large pepperoni/sausage pizza. The sauce and cheese was fresh w/ a thin crisp crust. Couldn't ask for more out of a slice. Highly recommend this place if you're ever in the Hoboken area and looking for great slice of pizza.

I tried Grimaldis many years ago when they first opened in Hoboken. My first experience there was disappointing. The pizza was very soggy and watery in the middle and was charred on the outer part of the crust. At that time , I believe the pizza was around $17. I didnt think it was worth it. For that money I wanted a more consistent pie. So after all those years I went back with some co-workers. I will say that the crust was much better this time. The middle wasn't soggy. The pizza was ok, but for that price I want to be blown away. Definitely not the best I've ever had. I would have thought the toppings ( sauce, cheese) would have had more flavor.

Every time I visit my cousin in Hoboken we try to spend an evening at Grimaldi's and have never been disappointed. The service at this location is good and starting with a salad and heading into a pizza makes for a perfect outing. This thin pizza gleams with flavor.

It was really tasty. I had the Sausage Pizza. The price isn't bad either for the quality of pizza. 20 or under for a pie with 1 topping. Not for people who do not like thin crusts though. The location is scenic too...

When my girlfriend and I need to get our pizza fix, we automatically think Grimaldi's. Beats all the Washington St. cookie cutter slices hands down. Delicious sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese. Our usual medium pepperoni never fails to deliver. Pepperoni slices are small, but thick and aplenty across the pizza. Best coupled with a Grimaldi's IPA (quenches thirst like no other, with a taste to match). Friendly wait staff in a charming, intimate setting. A recommended stop for pizza lovers in Hoboken.

The dough is mediocre. They cook it great in a coal oven and use good cheese, but the sauce is mediocre too. It all adds up to good, but not good enough in an area that you can get great.

Good pizza & good service. Fabulous fresh mozzarella & plenty of garlic!

One of the best pizza I've had. Yes, I have been to Italy, however, my husband was too hungry to wait for the La Pizzeria Da Baffetto to open so we missed out on what the travel books called the best pizza in Rome. But we did eat pizza in Rome, Florence, Venice, Positano, and Sorrento. Grimaldi's pizza is very good. Simple, fresh ingredients. I didn't even mind waiting in line for 40 minutes and sitting in the cramped restaurant.

I am not sure why people brag about this place over rated pizza joint. I made the trip finally and was so disappointed. It was down right as basic pizza as I have ever had. Not worth the long wait or time. Honestly lousy pizza.

A patient recommended this place to me and I had high expectations. We only wanted to try the pizza but our server suggested we order some appetizer since the wait would be 15 minutes for the pie. We had the antipasto salad. The olive oil tasted stale. We ordered a whole large pizza for 3 adults and 2 kids (ages 10 and 6). Half the pie was plain and half had pepperoni, broccoli and mushrooms. Plain pizza was so much better but nothing as spectacular as people have been yelping about. The best was the sauce that was enhanced by fresh basil. I think their mozzarella yesterday was not the freshest.

We wanted a really good brick oven pizzeria and Grimaldi's is it. The pie with eggplant was delish! The dough was thin and the crust had substance. The cheese and sauce were also very good. This is what a brick oven pie should be. On another note, the antipasto was fair. The mozzarella cheese was very rubbery- took away from the rest of the dish. I would love it if they could add a few more interesting appetizers. Overall, a worth while trip on a gorgeous day.

delicious pizza! my family's second time at this location and it was a great place to celebrate my mama's birthday. it's small, maybe a little too small considering all the business that comes through. but it's a jumpin' pizza joint that serves beer and wine (not too sure about hard booze) and their pizza is so good that i ate :gulp:: three slices. i haven't tried any of their actual dinner meals but their pizza will keep me comin' back for more!

OMG! one of the best pizzas I have had in my life! This is why I love going to NYC (and yes NJ) cuz they have the best pizzas. Fresh tomato sauce, fresh mozerella and any toppings you want on a thin crust pizza! Yum! Heaven! One note of advice, don't overload the pizza with toppings.. I don't think you will be able to enjoy the taste of the crust, cheese and all the yumminess!

  • M D.

Everytime we go to Hoboken, he has to have Grimaldi's. The crust is thin, the cheese is fresh, and it's just good. It's consistently good, nothing fancy. Personally we love the eggplant with cheese and mushroom.

Met with my girlfriend on a random Friday night here for a simple date with some pizza (yes the date was with pizza and my girlfriend happened to show up). We ordered. Garlic and onion with half being mushroom as well. It came within 10 minutes steaming and bubbling. I was surprised by the use of fresh garlic, which often doesn't happen in many pizza places. A difference that makes a difference. Also, plenty of toppings spread throughout the pie, another nice touch. The thin crust of Grimaldi's pizza is nice and not too filling, but when the cheese and toppings come into play, it becomes a full meal. After about five slices, I called it quits and doggy-bagged one slice. I didn't think this pizza was amazing, nor did I think it was terrible with my girlfriend having similar thoughts. I doubt I will be back to try another pie unless in desperate need of a sit down pizza spot.

Not impressed at all. I really don't see what the hype is about. Any good pizzeria should be able to make a spectacular plain pizza. This pizza is an absolute regret. The sauce has NO FLAVOR, the bread as almost sour, and the cheese; what cheese?? Never going back dont see what the hype is about at all and this is coming from a New Yorker with a passion for pizza. Lambardis will forever be the best.

I have been slowly weaning myself off of pizza (I eat pizza like once every two months IF EVEN?)... but then I found out what Grimaldi's was and seriously considered eating pizza way more than once every two months. I got the white pizza with pepperoni, and man the oil and the ricotta cheese they use here is pretty amazing. Perfectly seasoned. The pepperonis are cute (small) and for some reason curl up and aren't flat. But the pepperonis tend to be kinda crispy, which is just the way I like it. The crust is pretty thin, if that's your thing. But I agree with other reviewers that the middle tends to get soggy for some reason, so be careful that the pizza doesn't fall apart on you A medium pie will cost you around $24 or so.

You have to drive a long time to get pizza as good as deninos(we miss you LI)... thank heaven for Griimaldis. What they do is something else, it's magic. I've given it to people cold and it's like they're biting into an apple after a 30 day walk thru a desert. You cannot lose.

Oh man, I had an epic food day yesterday, which was capped off to perfection by pizza at Grimaldi's. I have a friend in town and she loves pizza so I thought taking her to Grimaldi's would be the best way to highlight the amazing pizza of our cute little town. And I must say it lived up to expectations and then some! She had never had this style of pizza with the thin slices of fresh mozzarella, rather than shredded cheese, and it was amazing. The cheese is almost sweet, and we are sugar heads so we loved that. The place is cute and old school and the service is friendly, quick and efficient. We split a large pizza because I am a big eater and didn't want to run out, and it was LARGE. We had half of it left over. Well I am not going to kick those leftovers out of bed, so I didn't mind that one bit! I mean of all the great things about Hoboken this has got to be in the top five. You can walk into Grimaldi's with no wait at 7:30 on a Friday and have a truly epic pizza. I love this place!

Updating my review to 3 stars since eating in rather than getting delivery. This location isn't as good as the one on Washington (eg. the beer taps here make the beer taste dirty), but it's spacious and convenient if you live on the west side of Hoboken. I recommend adding meatballs to your pie.

I can't describe to you the feelin of joy that will wash over you as you bite into a slice of Grimaldi's pizza. It's truly Euphoric. My old roommate and I would decide to order Grimaldis in the late afternoon, and then from then on it's just a longing...the aching...the waiting...But it would all seem worth it when it finally came and we would each have a large pie and a canoli. As good as delivery is, going there is so much better. Seeing it go from the oven to my table last night....It's guaranteed to be the 2nd best part of your day (bested only by actually eating it), unless you are one of those people who thinks the anticipation is better..maybe with women...not so with Grimaldis.. My only worry is the expansion they are doing...So silly going to washington street. I like the off the beaten path old schoolness of Clinton street... Also, i like when something is authentic, i feel like expanding dilutes something great (i.e. Shake Shack, National League pitching) So I feel like the aura of Grimaldi's has been lost with locations in Midtown, Queens, Florida, Arizona, Long Island, South Jersey, upstate NY...ugh, i am depressed now.... I hope the quality doesn't suffer...it will be a sad say for me...almost sadder than what reading the website and seeing Grimaldis has about as many locations as The Outback.. Mark my words, I refuse to go to any of them! Just rubbish.

Came here on a Sunday night after watching football. Restaurant was definitely not crowded. We ordered the large with Spinach, mushrooms and sausage. Pizza was out within 10-15 mins. Great crust and service. Definitely will be one of my go to pizza stops more often. Less crowded than the one on Washington Street and they validate parking for the parking deck on Clinton ave between 3rd and 4th.

For whatever it's worth, this place is probably the best (or maybe the only) non-pizza by the slice place in Hoboken. Pizza is pretty good... as other reviewers have said, the middle gets a little soggy, and the pizza doesn't really retain the crispy crust you go for. As a generic comment on all pizza places, if you really want high qualiy, thin crust, super crispy pizza, go on Amazon and buy a pizza stone, and than buy yourself about $6 worth of ingredients, and make it yourself.

I've been hearing nonstop amazing things about Grimaldi's pizza and how delicious it is. I finally tried it for the first time the other week and it was really good. We sampled a number of different pizzas and I enjoyed them all. It wasn't as amazing as I had expected (maybe because it was talked up so much), but not complaints... I'd definitely go there again.

great pizza, but it's brick oven so you have to get a whole pie. they're delicious though and I could probably house a whole one myself

Terrific pizza like I used to get when I was a kid in Brooklyn, friendly service, charming pub-like ambience, and even the house wine by the carafe was ok. What more can you want!!!!

Good char on the crust, good flavoring of the sauce. If you're in the mood for a very good thin-crust pizza then this is the place to go in Hoboken.

  • Andrew S.

Excellent brick oven pizza! Not those weak thin baby slices - REAL slices! Sauce is fantastic. Feel guilty after finishing a pie with a friend? Sure, but it's worth it. Can't wait to go back. FYI - the eggplant-topped pizza is amazing.

My favorite pizza place. If you are looking for thin crust, brick oven pizza, this is the place. I frequently order a take-out pie, and they have the pie ready quickly every time. Recommended.

We order for delivery all the time and most of time it's good. But it tastes a lot better in the restaurant. Most of the toppings are good but we order plain ones mostly. I wish for delivery they can design a box that lets the steam out from the bottom so it stays crunch on the bottom...

  • Amy C.

Hoping for the "best pizza" in Hoboken, and unfortunately disappointed. Did not seem totally cooked, was lukewarm and ordered with sausage (all toppings are priced extra)--had hint of sausage. Think they used to be the best pizza, and have slacked off.

I feel like I should be writing two separate reviews for Grimalidi's, as when I eat "in house," I eat at the Washington Street location. Seeing as more often than not I order in, Clinton it is (Washington DOES NOT deliver). I was vacillating between the 4 and the 5 here...my accounting background tells me to err on the side of conservatism, so I'm going with the 4. However, I will say without hesitation this is the best pizza place in Hoboken. Benny's is only good if you need to mop up libations and every other option seems very Plain Jane. Grimaldi's is all about thin (though not the thinnest I've ever had) crust topped with fresh ingredients (no nasty shredded wax cheese here...just mozz). I'm a pretty small human and usually have a two slice max, but when Grimaldi's hits my doorstep, rationing bets are off...this stuff is fresh and delicious, and, when served piping hot, goes down so fast you don't know what happened (I write this in a Grimaldi's food coma right now). Yes, toppings will run you a pretty penny, but this is one of few pizzas I'd be willing to eat plain (will still be "Margharita" style - better than most plain pies), though I usually require at least onions. You get what you pay for here, which means far better quality than that baby-sized wax cheese crap on Washington. If you go to the Washington location, be prepared to wait unless you hit the dining window (either lunch or dinner) right before it peaks, or enjoy some draft brews while you wait. BTW, delivery minimum is $12 (they've always beat their delivery time estimates for me).

I hesitate to write this in hopes that I won't see the lines outside here that you see at the Brooklyn Grimaldis. But this is every bit as good as that establishment - maybe better because everyone is more relaxed and you won't find any tourists. This is my favorite pizza place in the tri-state area. You can't go wrong with a plain pie here. The sauce is simple and sweet. The fresh mozzarella is perfectly arranged - not too much but enough to get some in every bite. The crust is that perfect airy, crispy, and nutty concoction that only seems to work well within a 90 mile radius of NYC. Delicious!

Took the drive to Hoboken today for this amazing pizza and I must say my expectations were well met! We got Sausage and Pepperoni, the Pepperonis were crispy and delish. The only thing keeping this review from 5 star perfection is the burt taste of the crust. Some people love that but it is not my thing. The ladies next to us had the anti pasta and after seeing it I immediatly regreted not ordering it. I will def be back if I am in the area.

We could write a book on this place, but we wont. This is definitely the best pizza in Hoboken. We always get the small regular pizza and eat it by the river in Hoboken. It is always hot and fresh. It tastes so great! We tell all our friends about it! We have even brought family there when they are visiting and they loved it!

  • Eric B.

Salad, pizza, dessert (and like three pasta dishes). Out of the multitude of brick oven pizza places in Hoboken, the classic Grimaldis has the most limited menu. But who cares! you go for the pizza anyways. I got an antipasti salad, which came with a few slices of salami, some mutz, and some tomatos- kind of dissapointing. I was expecting more meat. I got the standard Margherita pizza, which was very good, but did nothing to stand out over other very good b.o. pizza places. It's a great neighborhood joint and is also one of the few pizza places that has a liquor license (also have a few of their own beers). I would definitely return for the eat in experience, but not take out

I went to Hoboken for pizza. Who am I?? But putting all that aside, the pizza was ah-mazing. And we didn't have to wait hours to enjoy it! Huge bonus. We got there around 6 on a Sunday night, and the place was pretty empty. We were seated immediately and our waiter was a little too excited about his job, but seriously, I appreciate good service so much these days that I didn't even wonder why he was so happy. We split a large pizza with green peppers, sausage and pepperoni. The crust was chewy but thin, the sauce was perfect, the toppings were plentiful but not overwhelming. I won't go so far as to say it was the perfect slice of pizza, but it was up there. Top 3, at least. And then it only took me 20 minutes to get back to my cozy Murray Hill apartment. If you want to try Grimaldis and not stand in line for an hour in Brooklyn, consider hopping on the Path and testing it out in Hoboken. It'll be worth the trip, I promise.

What's the best pizza in Hoboken? The people who know pizza will always list Grimaldi's as a top stop. The garlic pizza is just what the doctor ordered sometimes. Remember to pack some breath mints when dinning out though. Only knock I have on Grimaldi's is that they are only good for pizza. Don't bother with the pasta or appetizers here. They are a through and though pizza place.

    (4)
  • David N.

For a landmark pizza place I can't say it's a top five favorite. 3.5 stars would be more accurate...MAYBE 4 on a good day. The non-pizza items were a little too limited and the pizza was a little sauce heavy for me. Over all it was a good pie with nice crust texture. The ambiance is nothing to write home about although comfortable and nastalgic in a traditional context.

  • Anthony M.

This is my favorite tasting pizza in Hoboken. Minus a star for being so light on toppings and forcing me to say "well done extra crispy" to get that good baked in flavor. Damn, now I'm hungry.

  • Brad M.

Really good coal-fired brick oven pizza. The pizza is a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it. I recommend getting a topping on it. The most similar pizza in Hoboken can be found at Napoli's. It's also similar to Lombardi's in Manhattan. If you have a choice between the Hoboken or Brooklyn Grimaldi's Pizzeria, I'd chose the Hoboken one as there's never a line of tourists out the door like in Brooklyn.

Best Pizza Ever. It's a bold statement, especially for it's location. Everything is fresh, everything is delicious.

  • Alvin W.

I have been to both the Brooklyn and the original Hoboken Grimaldi's and the pizza is pretty much the same at both places. The one advantage about the Hoboken restaurant is that you can get smaller personal pizzas and it's not as packed as the more touristy Brooklyn location is. The pizza itself is some of the best coal brick oven cooked pizza I have had. Best to dine in because the pizza doesn't really travel well in a box and tastes best when it's right out of the oven and hot enough for the cheese to burn every square inch of your mouth. Even though the pizza does not travel that well, leftover still re-heat surprisingly well compared to other pizzas.

  • Paulie B.

Hoboken Foodie says this pizza is alright. I must agree with some of the other reviews regarding the toppings. The toppings are a bit on the pricey side($4 for meatball) and they hardly put any on. However the ingredients are very fresh and that comes through in every bite. I will give the service 4 stars although the server himself was a complete dud! All that said probably one of the top 3 pizzas in Hoboken.

Ordered a Large for a group of 4. Spinach and Tomato topping portion is awesome. Anchovi is way too salty and the topping is big for a bite. Cheese Ravioli and Cannoli were good too. Thin crust, so, plan to order more than usual. A bit on expensive side, so I would go on special occasion; on regular basis, I would go to Pizza Republic opposite to this place for affordable/satisfying Pizza.

After having Grimaldi's in Brooklyn, I was excited to find out there is a Grimaldi's in Hoboken, walking distance away from my apartment. RESTAURANT DETAILS: - No wait, the BF and I can always get a table immediately. - Plenty of outdoor seating. - If you're lazy and don't want to get off your couch, unlike the original Brooklyn location, Hoboken delivers. - Difficult street parking, you're on your own with that in Hoboken. PIZZA: - Similar menu, however, I noticed that they did not have Roasted Sweet Peppers as a topping. Boo, Brooklyn had it! - The pizza came in a typical pizza box, no biggie... Brooklyn's came in a ghetto paper bag. Maybe I like ghetto-ness or shall I call it simplicity. - Delivery: Pizza arrived a bit soggy. I assumed it was pipping hot when it came out of the oven. Once they closed the lid, the pizza steamed a bit too long while the delivery boy circled around looking for a decent temporary parking spot in front of our building. - Dine In: Crust is a bit thicker than Brooklyn's, still very thin. The crust is not crispy. I assume Hoboken's oven doesn't get as hot as Brooklyn's. - Same tangy and sweet tomato sauce. - Pizza is still VERY delicious and nice size. - Same pricing. For two, Regular Small Pizza (comes with fresh mozz and basil) $12, you pile on your own toppings for extra $. - Keep in mind, the more toppings you pile on, the heavier your pizza slice (obviously) and a higher risk of potential soggy crust. For the love of pizza, keep it simple!! My favorite pizza spot in Hoboken.

My favorite place in Hoboken for Margaretia style pizza. Its very thin crust and the sauce is delicious. The pizza does not travel as well so I would recommend eating in over getting delivery. They also have a Grimaldi's IPA would is very good.

I've been eating a year's worth of Grimaldi's pizza now and have been hesitant to write a review since it's taken me a loooong time to come up with a decisive verdict. So, after all of this time, what do I think? ...yes, the pizza is very good. But by, "very good", I mean that it is better than most. However, I have still have not been convinced that this what pizza utopia is and, unfortunately, I must say that my search for the perfect pie must continue. First, the good: The crust, when eaten minutes out of the oven, does achieve superb levels of greatness, combining just the right combination of crispness, chewiness and flavor. After letting the pie sit for 2 or 3 minutes, the texture of the crust, sauce and cheese is tremendous. If they are really on, you get the perfect balance of golden brown and coal-fired char distributed throughout the crust. On a good night, the pie can be heavenly. However, it's not all pizza nirvana all the time. I find that they are often inconsistencies - too much sauce one night, too burnt another night, not enough cheese on another night. And although the water content of their fresh mozzarella is just perfect for this pie, people often complain that it could have just a bit more saltiness to it, as many pallets sometimes find the sauce and the cheese to be under flavored. Finally, you really cannot enjoy this pizza to its maximum potential by ordering it for take out or delivery. The crust, the cheese, the temperature and the overall quality of the pizza just doesn't hold up to the time spent in a pizza box. Coupled with their very slow delivery service, any delay from oven to table most certainly equals disaster. I am lucky enough to enjoy the best Grimaldi's take-away pizza, but only because I live a few blocks away ;) If you can get home withing 5 minutes, I recommend the following: 1. Place your order. They will tell you it will take 30 minutes for pickup. Assure that family members and loved ones get your plates, drinks and various eating accoutrement ready beforehand. 2. Get there 15 minutes after you place the order and let them know you are there. Pre-pay if you can. 3. Take custody of pizza. 4. Run/drive home. Fast. 5. Enjoy cheesy, tomatoey, crusty goodness within the comfort of your own home. If you can't execute the above plan, don't bother ordering take-out.

Their Margharita Pizza is OFF THE HOOK!!!!!!!! A must get! The rest of the menu is pretty good as well. The prices are worth the taste! Delivery and pickup as well as dining on premises. This is a very well known spot in Hoboken!

I have been two locations, the one in Jersey and the one in Brooklyn. The pizza is second to none. It is so delicious, with the perfect ratio of sauce and cheese. The toppings oh the toppings, they give you a nice list to choose from. I usually like my pizza with a topping or two, but not Grimaldi's, I don't want to drown out the excellent flavor of their amazing sauce and cheese. In the Brooklyn location when it gets busy you can find a line going outside and down the block. I normally refuse to wait more than 5-10 minutes for table in any restaurant, but Grimadi's is the exception. I would wait on that line. I would also start out with the Antipasto before getting the pizza. I normally try not to be gluttonous but I can easily down three-four slices of this amazing pizza.

  • Ken O.

It's hands down the best pizza in Hoboken. Great sauce, the right amount of mozzarella, fresh basil and good toppings if you want'em. That said I wish the crust were a bit thinner and crisper. All in all a great pie. The pizza itself gets a solid 4 stars. Wheelchair access: Pretty crappy would be an understatement. 3 big steps in. When I come here it's when the weather is good and I can sit outside . On those occasions when an out-of-town guest is craving it and there's no outdoor seating I'll get help up the steps. This location is pretty new (less than 10 years for sure - closer to 7 maybe) so I'm not sure how they got away with not being accessible. Who knows. 0 stars for access. Delivery: Pretty slow and the crust of course suffers from the time it takes to deliver. It still tastes great though and sometimes regular neopolitan pizza won't do. Overall: 4 stars for the pizza, 0 stars for access. 2 stars.

  • L. Eliza C.

It is one of the most decent pizzas in Hoboekn. It is not a Lombardi or Vinnie Vincenz in NY but it is good pizza though skimpy. We always order white pizza . But this place charges extra for ingredients that other places offer as part of their normal white pizza. That is my only gripe.

This spot gets 5 stars because its the best brick oven I've ever had. It edged out napolis uptown as well. Atmosphere and ambiance is nothing special but they do have some outdoor seating. Their home brewed ipa is actually pretty good and they have a few chiantis that are affordable which is a nice touch.

This place is amazing. I normally don't go insane for pizza and give it 5 stars, but this one is worth it. First, let us make on thing clear: THIS IS THE SAME EXACT GRIMALDI'S AS THE ONE IN BROOKLYN. For proof please visit grimaldis.com and see for yourself. Now back to the food. I had a regular plain pie. Little did I know there was nothing regular or plain about this place. They use this coal brick oven that gives the pizza this awesome taste. The cheese and the crust are just insanely good. I can only imagine how much better it gets with toppings. One thing I do want to note is that this place can be busy!! Try to pick off peak hours if you are in a rush, but the wait is not as bad as Brooklyn.

    (5)
  • Adam M.

If you like Brooklyn style thin crust pizza, but just don't feel like the hassle of going all the way to Brooklyn, def try this place....don't even waste your time with the Brooklyn pizza place in Hackensack. The Pizza at Grimaldis is very thin, nice and crispy, and the slices are nice and big on the large pizza. The pizza is a little pricey and this place tends to get pretty crowded and a little slow.....but its definitely worth the price and time if you have it to spare.

  • Jack G.

Grimaldi's Pizzeria is one of my all time favorites. The staff is great, and they use delicious fresh ingredients. It is remarkable how these guys meld dough, sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil into one of the greatest tasting slices I have ever tasted. I consider myself a fan of all things pizza, and while i love the thin crust NY style pizza, Grimaldi's takes it to the next level. Every time I have eaten here it has been consistently good, and the take-out is fast (10-15 mins). A great find in Hoboken..so no need to take that Path into the city.

It's much better in the restaurant than delivered unless you take it and put it in the oven for a few minutes. The steam makes it a bit soggy. I'm a big fan of their pizza. Great crust and fresh mozzarella. The sauce could be a bit more flavorful (to get a 5 star), but it's very good.

Its good not fantatic. Admittadly I gave not had lombardi's just yet. It was fresh and tasty. But wouldn't rate as a favorite for me

I must say that I like the thin crispy crust, and the fresh mozzarella, but there is certainly a lot of hype and expectations about Grimaldi's. There is no question that it is the best pizza in Hoboken. I live a few blocks away, and have been enjoying and will continue to go for the pizza. I always go in off hours to avoid excessive delays and crowds. If it is convenient, I would go, but I would not be lured into making a special trip, as I would be very disappointed.

Yes, there are lots of tourists that visit here. Yes, it is overstated how excellent the pizza is. However, the pizza is excellent. Not mind-bending, but it is one of my favorites in town. The sauce is sweet, and the combo of ingredients makes for a really tasty pie. The cafeteria-styled seating is a must for the amount of people eating there, but I have to say, it was easy enough to hang out with friends for a relaxed period of tinme. Just come expecting noise and a big crowd in tight spaces.

Used to think this was the greatest pizza shop on the planet, but last three times I've ordered it's been soggy and disappointing.

I'm a huge fan of the New York Grimaldis' and I'm happy to say that although this place isn't as good, it comes very close. The fresh mozzarella and sauce are very flavorful and the crust has that nice coal brick oven taste. Go here instead of the Grimaldi's on Washington Street. Negative: Expensive for pizza. In fact, more expensive than the NYC Grimaldi's.

  • Amy G.

Classic brick oven. You're not having a foodgasm but it's definitely enjoyable. That said some times you just was an old school slice. No goat cheese, no "fresh" mozzarella, just crust a good sauce and some regular old mutz. Not the place for that... Or for a slice of any kind for that matter they don't sell by the slice, only pies...

We ordered a white pizza on the last day of our trip. I have to say that I prefer the crust at Grimaldi's over Lombardi's. It was a little bit chewier, (Lombardi's was drier), and less "charcoaled". Based on the quality white pizza, it gets 4 stars. I ordered a side of red sauce just to compare and found it to be very sub-par. It was watery and sour. I hope this isn't the same sauce they use on their pizzas. If so, the chewy crust that I love might be pretty soggy. I'll have to put it to the test next time.

I'll give it 3.5 stars. Parking is an issue in Hoboken and I just got so hungry making circles for almost 30 minutes in a 20F. I was so happy to hear that they opened one in Hoboken since the Brooklyn location is so inconvenient (locationwise and linewise). I've been to the Hoboken Grimaldis many times since I live in Newport Pavonia. I have to say this last Friday, was probably the best experience I had so far. Price: $12 for small pie and $15 for large pie Drink: They apparently have their own brewery. I didn't get it. But they also have cheap beer options which go really well with pizza. The pie is above average I have to say, but it's thin but sturdy enough to hold the sauces and toppings. They also use fresh mozzarella cheese which is a plus. The crust is not as crunchy as I want it to be. There were the two of us and we finished the entire pie, so it is good. Toppings: I've tried anchovies, spinach, mushroom, onions, sausage, meatballs. The sausage is good, but the meatballs beat it hands down. Warning though, if you order meatballs, they will put a little more marinara sauce, which I like, but some of you may not.

I've gotten pizza from Grimaldi's Clinton location twice since moving to Hoboken. The first was the day I moved in. The restaurant wasn't too busy for a Saturday evening and the service was quick which was perfect after a long day of moving furniture. The second was a few weeks ago when I had a few friends visiting and we decided to order pizza. Both times the pizza was great. I've tried both their plain as well as pizza topped with roasted red peppers. This is definitely going to be my go to pizza place in Hoboken!

  • Marlo G.

Yes, this is the same Grimaldi's pizza you can get in Brooklyn, only a few bridges and tunnels are separating you! :) It's your standard Grimaldi's/Patsy's pie with thin, coal oven crust, blobs of fresh mozzarella, basil and sauce. They're only open til 10:30 (come on!!!!) and do accept credit cards, but there's a charge to use a credit card if you get delivery. Actually, this is something I've seen a bit in Hoboken. Mangia!

  • Luckie D.

Real Pizza is thin crust, cooked in a brick oven and has ample amounts of toppings with a proper ratio of tasty sauce to dough. Grimaldi's - Is a hit. Its cozy, charming in an authentic neighborhood pizzareia kind of way. The service was fast and the waitress was very helpful and friendly with an excellent Chianti recommendation. I will return !

Okay... 2nd location of the popular Grimaldi's in Brooklyn. I've never tried the one in Brooklyn, but understand that this location doesn't draw the same large crowd, which is a plus. The pizza is all about fresh ingredients. Ordered eggplant and anchovies. Really delicious. It's all about fresh. But it's different than your typical NY pizza. 1) Coal brick oven: I think this adds to the deliciousness. Not exactly sure what the technique do, but the end result is deliciousness. Also, perhaps quicken cook time, because the pie was ready very quickly. They advertise this fact, but yeah, I don't know what it does really... 2) Fresh ingredients: definitely adds to deliciousness - in fact, I'd say this is the driving factor on deliciousness. 3) Not greasy: It is pizza. It has cheese. I even had anchovies. So, I'm not saying there is no grease, but I'm saying it's not heavy and greasy like you expect from your typical pizza. Again, think fresh yummy deliciousness. 4) Whole pie only: You do NOT order by the slice... which is tricky. Even the personal pie is quite huge (maybe 8") So, bring a friend when you come by.

  • Louis R.

I think I drank too many pitchers of Peroni before I tasted the pie. No way, nothing goes better with a pepperoni pie than Nastro Azzurro...just like I was back in Italy. The crust was crispy, the pepperoni was salty and the cheese was overflowing. Since this spot is in Hoboken, it doesn't feel like they are pumpin out pies via a conveyor belt, it feels like a neighborhood pizzeria where they know your ugly face. I like it.

  • Jessie E.

Used to be my go to pizza place. We still come from time to time but not as often because the pizza seems to have gotten a little greasy within the last 2 years. That said Grimaldi's is still better than 95% of the pizza in Hoboken. Fresh ingredients and friendly staff.

    (3)
  • Michael L.

Ate: Marghertia + Sausage and mushroom pizza Drank: Grimaldi's IPA (I think) Liked: Everything! The friendly staff, the food, the location. Disliked: Nothing really. Chicken: No Would mom like it?: Don't care, it was delicious. Wait: NONE. Jersey, FTW! Would I go back: Hell yeah. Recommend: the IPA and the pizza of course.

Nope. Not happening again. Picked up a couple of pies on a Friday night and it was nothing worth writing to your mama about. I felt robbed, $38 bucks for two pies. Really. Listen, if the food is good, I'm paying. Just never for this pizza again.

    (1)
  • Peter L.

Sure the pizza is good. The prices are not. Way way overpriced, and so miserly on the toppings. A small pizza with three toppings should not run you $30. I am by no means a pig and I can kill a large pie and still be hungry. Ordered a calzone and they asked if I wanted sauce with it. Who ever heard of a calzone with no sauce? That cost me around $2 extra for about 4 oz. of sauce which I ran out of half way through. I would rather deal with the jabronis at Benny Tudino's.

    (2)
  • Evan M.

pizza is tasteless, make sure you add a zesty topping like pepperoni. Don' tget too many topics or your pizza will be over twenty bucks.

we waited over an hour to get in the grimaldi's at brooklyn, but this one had no line!!! food tasted exactly the same, but even better is we had a table that didn't bump elbows with other diners :-) i love grimaldi's and this location made me appreciate it more. i'm not a fan of queuing and i'm glad grimaldi's has other locations like this one coz you'll never find me at the brooklyn location... fuhgeddabouthat!

By far the best pizza in town. Moved from downtown to uptown but still come back to this place (yes I know Hoboken is only a square mile but its all relative). Tasty crispy-soft crust, sweet sauce, and fresh mutz (not that cheap shredded crap). Everything in good proportions. Dislike that it's not byob and the dining room is usually full of screaming kids, but I guess thats what takeout is for

finally after hearing much about the famous grimaldi's pizza i had to try it. i was in the area and realized there were 2 locations so i decided to give it a shot. the pizza was great. it was thin, had chew, and had great flavor. i had a meatball, pepperoni, and green pepper pizza. man they brought this pie out fast as well. their mozzarella was of some of the best i've ever had on a pizza pie. it had great flavor and nice chew that i've never experienced before from mozzarella. after i had a few slices i attempted to put down an order of spaghetti and meatballs. their spaghetti and meatballs is delicious. the flavor of the sauce tastes so fresh and clean. it isn't overly heavy at all, and their meatballs are very juicy. their portions here aren't tiny either, i literally could not eat one order in one sitting. in saying that i am not that large of a person, so i'm sure thats a perfect size for others. if you havne't tried grimaldi's before you should. it'll easily become a favorite.

The first time i went to grimaldis, it was 100 degrees outside, which i deemed too hot to cook. I had long been a devotee of Ginos in Jersey City, but was intrigued by all the comments made about this place. I decided that i didnt want a whole pie in my house, and i had been running the a/c for a week straight and was trying to conserve money by leaving it off during the day. I was looking for an excursion. I hopped on the lightrail to 2nd street, got off, and eagerly made my way to clinton street in the african-like heat, and the complaint section of my brain was in full gear. When i arrived, it was empty, and i was being stared down by a bunch of employees watching a soccer game. To my dismay, i couldnt get a few slices and had to order a small pie. The young red head had confided that grimaldis only makes the freshest pizza possible, as he glanced over at the brick oven with a glimmer in his eye. (I guess this is where i start being impressed) (i discreetly roll my eyes) The pizza was made quickly and was getting ready to pay, when i realized that the price of the pie was 17 NOT 7 dollars! For a personal friggin' pizza! I handed over a twenty and asked for a plastic bag to carry my small box in. "No bags, sorry," Was his answer. I begrudgingly made my way back home through the silty heat onto the lightrail and back up to my apartment, which i was sure was at least 400 degrees by now. I complained in my head the entire way home to the tune of "the nerve of these non-italian, non-new yorker, pretentious wannabe pizza guys." The only resonant thought in my mind was turning my a/c on immediately upon entering my house. I walked in, and opened the box with skepticism. I thought "oooo fancy, fresh mozz, instead of processed, it must be worth it" (sarcasm) I tasted it once, and again, and hungrily devoured the entire pie. When i finished, i realized i hadnt turned the a/c on, and my subconscious had finally shut the f up. 4 stars.

I really enjoy brick oven pizza, and I'm well aware of the reputation of Grimaldis. I recently shared a large cheese pizza with a friend on a blustery late summer evening. I was underwhelmed by the pizza. The crust was nice but not the best brick oven I've had. I'm almost glad the pizza was a bit dry as to save the pizza from what was essentially bland crushed tomatoes. Not nearly enough basil, and the cheese was not a wow. The Grimaldis lager I had was nice, but not enough to make me want to come back. Maybe this is the best pizza in Hoboken, but I will stick to my drunk slices.

I went back here this weekend after like 3 years and was reminded how good this pizza is. I've tried the rest of the "famous" original places and I think Grimaldi's and Ray's Pizza are on the top of my list...but for very different reasons. I love that Grimaldi's pizza is not oily and super fresh.

  • Hiep N.

Visited Grimaldi's while I was intown for work. This place is legit. I met a friend here for dinner after flying in from LA. The pizza here really hit the spot. We ordered two small pizzas for variety. One margarita style and one with sausage olive and mushrooms. The pizza was thin, slightly, crisp and had some chew. The ingredients were fresh and delicious. Service was a bit slow, but I would definitely come back if I were in the area.

Almost identical to the one in brooklyn except this one has no wait time (most of the time), is cleaner, updated, and they don't hurry you. So if you want legendary status brick oven pizza in Jersey, you come here.

  • Epi Curist Z.

Might share the name, but definitely not the quality. I had it delivered to me each time. Both times they skimped out on the toppings. I was really shocked and disappointed. I figured it could have been a one time thing and when I ordered delivery again, the same result. The amount of toppings was pathetic. When I say sausage and onion, I should see more than 2-3 small pieces of sausage and onion on each slice of pizza. Maybe sit down dinner is different, but it shouldn't be especially when it comes to the quantity and quality of the toppings. The taste overall was nothing special and did not live up to Grimaldi's in Brooklyn, NY. The best pizza around here is about 10 minutes north of Hoboken. But I'd rather find something in Hoboken that's just as good or better. Brooklyn's Brick Oven Pizzeria in Edgewater, NJ I'm still looking for the best pizza in Hoboken.

    (1)
  • Hank C.

Much like the Grimaldi's across the way in Brooklyn, but better in that their crust is better and the staff attitude is slightly better (but not by much). While the slices are small compared to many of the other slices you can find in Hoboken (like Filippo's), they generally saturate the toppings well. There's the checkerboard tables that are crammed right beside each other, usually crowded. For pizza, a little expensive, but at least they make it -seem- like it is worth it.

    (3)
  • Bridget A.

There is absolutely nothing to hate about this pizza place! If you want authentic Brooklyn style pizza this is your place! They have two locations in Hoboken, one on Washington and one on Clinton street. Hit up the Clinton street location if your looking for less crowds. It's hidden in the city, so only the locals know about this location. The pizza can be a little pricey when you start adding additional toppings like roasted red peppers, eggplant, etc. but it's so good and worth the price! Consider it a treat when you come here!

    (5)
  • Dharia M.

not being a new yorker, i feel like a poseur reviewing this place. but i have actually eaten at both the brooklyn and the hoboken locations of Grimaldi's and i think the pizza is delicious. I love the faint brick oven burnty-ness of the thin crust. i love the big pools of mozz and tomatoey sauce. I don't love the price. $12 for a 'personal' pizza with two toppings?? but it did fill two starving people. I suggest going for lunch and beating the crazed dinner crowds. We got our pizza in minutes and were out the door!

    (4)
  • Michael C.

A little pricey but it's worth it. The coal oven gives the crust a great char and a good smoke. Though the toppings can be expensive, they are spread out evenly among the pie. Great for either pickup or delivery.

  • Chelsea L.

Grimaldi's where they know your name! Well not really. When we first started going here, the wait staff was a little cold and rude. If you come every saturday, they tend to warm up. When me and the bf waltz up we dont even have to say what we are ordering they already know! Aw! Pizza is amazing, as the boy would put it, "oh, i just came in my pants!" We get really simple toppings someday we will try something daring. Sauce: perfect. Mozz: perfect. Crust: perfect. I ordered marinara spaghetti once, it was good, not crazy good, but just good. Got it? I wish we have tried more things to brag about. Curious about dessert... Do not get it delivered or take-out. This pizza must be eaten immediately!

Holy hell, eggplant and spinach pizza was soooo good, the pepperoni was amazing, but the sausage and mushroom was only ok. GET THE PEPPERONI!!!! GET THE EGGPLANT!!!, service sucked. I had to refill our tables water twice since the waitress disappeared after serving us our pizzas.

I was able to make it here on a business trip last week. When I lived in NYC, I used to go to the Brooklyn Bridge location, and that was always my favorite pizza. This Grimaldi's is just as good. Their's is still the best pizza I've ever had; the only pie that comes close is in Italy. The crust is just the right amount of crispy outer layer, chewy on the inside--and with flavor. So many pizza places get texture right with no flavor. Or they have an okay flavor but bad crust. Grimaldi's gets it all right! The sauce is fresh and delicious. Same for the cheese. I love the way it looks too -- blobs of mutz, not shredded and spread all over. You have to eat fairly quickly (which isn't a problem!) as this pizza loses something once it cools down to much. I'm sure it's good, but not great, if you order for take-out. I was there on a Wednesday night around 8PM and it was pretty empty by then, so service was fast and attentive.

Grimaldi's has ruined pizza for me...as a California resident that is. Nowhere in the Golden State (or other states for that matter) have I had pizza as delectable as Grimaldi's. The fresh mozzarella, tasty toppings and perfect crust were everything!

    (5)
  • Alex C.

Grimaldi's is a great pizza place - the original is located in Brooklyn and was famous for years for their coal brick oven pizza which they have adopted in Hoboken. Their plain pie is a Margarita style (fresh muzz, fresh basil and Italian herbs, and fresh tomato sauce). It is a thin crust style pizza and its very very good. Outside of Bleeker Street pizza (best in the city by Food Network), this is some of the best pizza I have had. I have also had the antipasti which was very good as well. I have attempted to order other things off the menu but my subconscious seems to take over and all over a sudden I have ordered the plain and end up eating four slices (and I am not even hungry). An FYI - this pizza is best when you eat it at the restaurant. We have had it delivered and it is not as crispy, we have also gotten it as take out and it was not the same. Oh and don't bother reading the story they have on the little place mats they put out for you. It is quite terrible and after you are done you think - "well that sucked and was not worth time" Aside from that service is very quick and for a gourmet pizza it is relatively cheap. They also have a parking deck and will comp the parking, I don't remember the name since I walk here but it is posted on the front of the restaurant. Place is great and would definitely and have recommended it to multiple people - enjoy!

The more I search for the perfect NY pizza, the more I find myself pining for the West Coast's Arizmendi, Cheeseboard, Zach's... Hell, even Round Table. I've had regular NY pizza slices at hole in the walls but now that i've tried these high rated pizza joints like Bleecker Street Pizza and Grimaldi's I just don't know. Why am I not feeling the 5 stars??? I was very excited for Grimaldi's. I was expecting something magical. Even if we weren't at the Brooklyn location, I wanted to know what all the fuss was about. Why do people stand in line for this pizza? Our pizza (a large sausage, olive, and mushroom) arrived piping hot and bubbly. The crust was very thin. It was impossible to pick up and fold in half. We had to eat the front half first with a fork and knife before eating it with our hands. This was the first time I had a pizza with just fresh mozzerella. I was missing my yellow cheese. The tomatoes were chunky and there was loads of basil. It was good but I think I was missing the grease and more crust. I ate a lot of pizza. I even took two slices home and ate it the next day. The pizza is alright. Nothing to rave about. Definitely nothing to fly across the country for or stand in line for 2 hours. I would give it two stars but since it's Grimaldi's and is all fresh and out of a coal brick oven, I guess it deserves three.

Nothing appeases my appetite like a pizza Margarita cooked to perfection with a glass of pinot gri. Normally I'm not a gal to munch on the crust, but not only did I eat my crust, but I ate half of a large pizza. It was simply that good.

Let's get this out of the way, GRIMALDI'S IS BETTER THAN DIFARA. And, it doesn't hurt not having to pay $5 a slice. Perfect sauce, great, fresh cheese, and awesome crust. I could easily polish an entire pie at Grimaldi's and not for $35 like DiFara.

Best white pizza pie ever. White pizza is a difficult thing. Sometimes it's too cheesy, sometimes there's no ricotta, sometimes it's too bland. This is the way it's supposed to taste. The charred crust, the fresh cheeses, the garlic,... oh man I dream of this pizza. The regular pie is good too (i always get it with extra basil) and their antipasto is great. But it's the white pizza i look forward to. Also, Grimaldi's crust is the best. No Dimarco's (though it's up there too), no Lombardi's, no Joe and Pat's... Grimaldi's!!!

I love Grimaldi's. It's light and absolutely delicious. It's a cute atmosphere to eat there, we get take out a lot though because we live 2 blocks away. The crust tastes great, the cheese is fresh and excellent, and the sauce tastes incredible. Whenever I leave Hoboken, it will be this restaurant that I miss most.

First of all, I feel as though I must come clean and admit my favorite pizza is pizza hut. I have no justification for that, but there you have it (if you still trust my opinion, read on) . I lived in Italy for about a year so I've had a lot of the thin crust Italian style pizza. Grimaldi's is by far the best pizza of this style I've had in the USA. It's very good. They only serve pies, not slices; there's a sign at the entry just to let you know. This is gourmet pizza. The staff is very good too. The markdown is that it it is expensive. For pizza that is. I mean I don't want to take out a loan for pizza, so see if you can get someone to take you as their treat. Otherwise, if you're just a big pizza connaisseur, this is a good place for you.

Ordered sausage pizza to go, waited 45 min, and ate soggy, saucy pizza at home. If you must eat this pizza, then definitely eat it fresh there.

Don't order take out. They always take way longer than they say. Recently ordered and it took over 90 minutes after they said it would only take 45 minutes. Also the guy answering the phone is not very friendly. You are in the "service" industry!

I just got the basic Pizza Margherita from Grimaldi's in Hoboken. I must admit that I had very, very high expectations from this place, given all the hype. So, that said, I am disappointed! There's nothing very *wrong* with this pizza, but there's nothing very right about it either. It's slightly bland! Normally I would complain about a pizza being too salty and/or the sauce being too sweet, but this one is just bland! The mozzarella, while fresh, is rather tasteless. The crust is on the right track, but slightly too thick. They've got the right process, but not a sufficient level of care, neither for the ingredients nor for the assembly. I actually observed our man making about 10 pizzas. Frankly all his motions were so rushed that I cannot even conceive how he could have uniformly spread out the mozzarella, sauce, parmigiana, olive oil, and basil - in fact, there's no freaking way he could have - I saw olive oil touch about 20% of the pizza surface. Come on guys, you can get it together a bit more - slow down a touch and give us a more quality product. Also, the mozzarella definitely needs to be changed. This is that supermarket deathly white big ball shit - we need the softer, truly fresh mozzarella. I will soon live in Hoboken and this is the only place that has any prayer of being a great pizza, but it's not quite there yet.

Having just temporarily re-located to the Newport section of Jersey City, my wife, 18 month-old daughter, and I were on the quest for great New York style pizza. Although good, I would say the hunt is definitely not over. Here's why: First, do not do take-out from this location, unless you live less than a block away (then you might as well just eat in, there were several tables open at 8pm on a Friday night). By the time we got home (although we live only a five-minute drive away, it takes time to get in and out of the car, park, navigate dark congested streets with poor signage, etc.) the pizza was just barely warm. I could see a business opportunity in delivery to Newport if they could just figure out how to keep the pizza hot! Cold pizza definitely let a lot of air out of our expectations for great NY pizza. It was good, still, but expensive - our tab for a small pizza (they may have made us a large by mistake, but the pie was not huge), house salad, two cannolis, and a diet coke came to $35. Next time we visit we'll go in the summer and walk to the restaurant, wait outside for a table to open if needed, and give it a more fair evaluation.

For all the talk about Grimaldi's, I don't love it. They make pretty good pizza, but nothing that is really THAT amazing, especially in the NY area. The food is good and is ready pretty quickly. The employees aren't all that friendly, and I hate that you pretty much have to walk into the kitchen to get and pay for your food. I have gone back, and will probably continue to go back on occasion, but it is not my regular Hoboken pizza place.

Good atmosphere and good service; the beer was ice cold and nice. The antipasto was very low quality. The pizza was supposed to be thin crust, but it was actually medium crust. We ordered 6 toppings on our large pizza: there was too little marinara sauce, the peperoni was overcooked and almost burned, the onions were very undercooked and almost raw. The pizza cost $34 and our total bill was $65. Overall, I was quite disappointed with the ultra low quality for the amount of money that we were charged. This place is HIGHLY OVERRATED. Parking is nearly impossible in this neighborhood.

Ended up tonight at Grimadli's with my family on recommendation of a friend. We were in the area and eating at Grimaldi's, either in Hoboken or Brooklyn was high on my list of to-dos this trip out east. We ordered the plain margarita pizza, extra large and a salad to start. This place had come with very lofty recommendations and I'm happy to say that it lives up to almost all expectations. I was actually expecting it to be busier, but perhaps it was a bit much in terms of anticipation given that today was just a Tuesday night. The salad was good, nothing spectacular. The pizza came out quickly and without fuss (our server was quite helpful). The pie was hot, piping and delicious. The sauce was great, the cheese was good (but not great, hence the ding in the rating), and the crust was out of this world. Fluffy and doughy and perfectly cooked, they should make a business out of just making that crust.

Wish I could say I love it since I'm desperate for some good brick oven pizza here in hoboken. Lombardi's it is not. I've ordered delivery 3 times now since everyone raves about it. Every time I keep thinking my next order is gonna be the yummy one... nope. Love thin crust, crispy brick oven pizza... which is not what you get from Grimaldi's, at least not with delivery. It's thin but it's doughy and undercooked with sparse bits of cheese and sauce. So if you like that sort of thing, Grimaldi's is great!!

This is definitly the best pizza in Hoboken. I compare it to Lombardi's in NYC which I love. Real brick oven new york style pizza at it's best. Downsides are their slow delivery service and since this is such a popular place the restaurant gets very crowded at times and feels very cramped. Service can be slow since they usually only have 2 or 3 servers for the whole place.

Consider myself to be kind of a pizza snob. Been to DiFara's, Patsy's, Lombardi's, pretty much all the "top" places. This is absolutely one of the best and better yet, it's right here in Hoboken. I usually stick to the classic margherita pie with extra basil. Sprinkle on a little garlic and red pepper and I'm in pizza heaven! The high quality ingredients are thrown together with just the right ratio of crust to cheese. I admit the pies are sometimes soggier when at the restaurant (same as other joints) but I usually get delivery and rebake to crispy perfection! Love this place!

Grimaldi's Pizzeria offers a solid pizza with a unique taste and character, but you are sure going to pay for it. It is located slightly off Washington Street, so you get a more chill feel, especially when sitting outside. I loved the taste of the dough and the sauce to cheese ratio was perfect. They use fresh mozzarella cheese which is always a positive. Some downfalls were that the pie didn't taste like it was brick oven (lacking that crunch) and the pizza came to our table luke warm. When I mentioned this pizza being pricey, a small with four toppings and two beers cost me forty dollars out the door. Aside from the pricey toppings, I was definitely satisfied with my trip and would go again. One hint... the small is more than enough for two people.

very indifferent pizza for what they charge. Actually would have been indifferent at half the price. Had better at Penn Station New York If this is the best Pizza in Hoboken better go to some other town

When I'm in the mood for pizza this is the only place I will order from! In fact the last time I called they were closed for vacation, and most people would just call somewhere else, not this guy, I just didn't get pizza that night! It's Grimaldi's pizza or no pizza at all!!

Best pizza in hoboken. Big pizzas, fresh ingredients (including fresh basil basked on top) mozzarella interspliced with a sweet, light red sauce. Light fluffy doughy crust, pretty thin crust but a good crunch on the edges....only downside is a couple toppings on a large pizza ends up running over 20 bucks total....still....i kinda want one now.

    Orgasmic........ but Lombardi's is better

Pretty good pizza (definitely when compared to other places in Hoboken). Thin crust, right amount of toppings/sauce/cheese. Our fairly large group received great service, very nice people working here. We had a few pitchers of Grimaldi's own beer (including one on the house), which was good, but very dark and a little too filling with the amount of pizza we were eating.

Grimaldi's pizza definitely rivals Lombardi's, but falls a little short. I did enjoy the thin, yet delicious crust and fresh mozzarella, but I thought the tomato sauce could have been better. The atmosphere is your typical pizza place with checkered tablecloths and white uncomfortable chairs. I thought the price was pretty reasonable - I came here with a large group for a friend's birthday and it was only $20 a head for about 3 slices per person and copious amounts of beer and wine. There's apparently one in Brooklyn too - will have to check that out!

Pizza. Heaven, Enough said. We each consume 23 pounds of pizza a year, and this place makes me want to come here to consume all 23 pounds of it. Wow, the pizza left me wanting more, regretful that I had eaten the half a pie with suych tenacity and wreckless abandon. In a city of nightlife , and bars and bars and nightlife, this pizza establishment brings sanity to the crazy. The fresh tomato, spinach pie is probably capable of making a scumbag into a good guy all over again. Please go here, casue they accept credit cards and the brooklyn locale does not. Well, go the Brooklyn locale as well.

Why does the staff at Grimaldi's feel it's necessary to yell at you when ordering a pizza? My boyfriend and I actually flip a quarter to see who will endure the verbal abuse for our 30$ pie. The pizza is (usually) excellent. They use a great sauce which is not too sweet, thin crispy crust and buffalo mozzarella. Though between the cost, wait time for delivery and incessant verbal abuse, Grimaldi's has become a once a month treat instead of a once a week treat.

The dining room has a nice feel for a pizzeria but the pizza was not very good. It was a little bland and the crust was thin but it was doughy. Thin crust pizza should be nice and crispy and we ordered 4 pizzas over 2 tables so it wasn't an accident. I inquired and our pleasant waitress said that we need to order it 'well done' if we want it crispy. For $18 per pizza, there is better for less in Hoboken.

I'm sorry but I'm just one of those people who judges food as food regardless of the fanfare surrounding it... and I don't believe that a certain oven can make good pizza, that using fresh mozzarella can make good pizza, that having a long "pizza genealogy" can make good pizza, that some burnt spots on the bottom of the crust can make good pizza, or that a few nearly charred leaves of basil can make a good pizza. Nor do I believe charging a few extra bucks, not offering single slices, and getting Sinatra's stamp of approval years ago at a completely different location can make a good pizza. Only people who know how to make good pizza can make good pizza, and I've had regular Americanized pizza of the typical modern NY style made with regular standard low moisture mozzarella and baked in a normal pizza oven that I enjoyed just as much or more than the pizza from here. It's not that the pizza isn't good (it definitely is). It's just not perfect, regardless of how many people either think it is or pretend it is. The crust is crisp, but not crisp enough to hold it's own weight up if held it by the crust without folding. The sauce sometimes even tends to make it somewhat soggy in the middle (and I have read several other reviews confirming that this isn't "just me"). Also, because of the lower salt content of fresh mozzarella, I have found that both the white pie and the regular pie tasted very under-seasoned and improved by about 50% once a little salt was sprinkled on (this is an advantage when I get a pie to go, because I can sprinkle some fleur de sel or sea salt on it without making it too salty... but when eating there, it's an annoying setback). Also I believe that fresh mozzarella has a tendency to toughen up somewhat when it isn't piping hot, so if you get a pie to go, I would pop it in the oven briefly (if you have the patience) if you want to thoroughly enjoy it. Along with the prices being high to begin with, some of the prices just don't make sense. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't remember my white pie having ricotta on it, it's just mozzarella and garlic and it's 17 bucks. The regular pie is 15 bucks. Are you telling me that a little minced garlic costs 2 bucks more than a pie's worth of sauce does? Personally I'd rather spend my money on the colossal slices of average quality pizza at Benny Tudino's just because of the value... not that I doubt the existence of a $15 pie somewhere that it is actually worth the money. I have just yet to have found it, and it's certainly not here, unless they do a little tweaking. Update: I went here again last night and the pizza was slightly more enjoyable this time, especially the first slice I ate when it was straight out of the oven, which I may even say was delicious. Of course I have a large appetite, and once again by the time I was on my 4th or 5th slice, the mozzarella had cooled down to the point of becoming rubbery and tough... a problem you won't have to worry about if you can only stomach 2 slices in one sitting or if you go with a group of a couple people and only order one pie at a time. Another plus is that I discovered a little secret... they have pepper mills on hand which you can ask for instead of using that wretched stuff in the shaker on the table. This time I didn't much feel the need for adding salt either, probably in part because our pie had pepperoni on it (not my decision, but it certainly wasn't a bad addition) as well as my tendency to add a lot of parmesan cheese. As for the crust, it still wasn't all that crisp on the bottom but it wasn't soggy in the middle either. The slight charring on the bottom which everyone seems to praise this place for was alright except for some slightly large spots especially on the outer crust (which I believe should be eaten) which made it taste bitter. Overall I think I am going to give this place an extra star for now, although another trip will show me if the quality is too inconsistent to deserve it or not.

With pizzerias, people tend to have their favorites and defend then staunchly. Particularly in the Northeast and NYC area. Grimaldi's, to me, is the best going. Give me a large grimaldi's pie and all is good in the world. Go on weeknights to avoid crowds. Pepperoni and sausage are best toppings, although I prefer plain generally. I agree it is best had on-site in the restaurant, but if you live in 'Boken or the immediate area and can get it home to a warm oven or hungry mouths quickly it will still be great. Also, their cannoli here, although not their forte, are pretty good. Not sure if they are made in house or not, but they aren't too bad.

I don't really understand the big deal about this place. I live right next door, and besides the wonderful scent of cooking pizza entering through the windows all day, the taste of this pizza is very mediocre at best. I find the crust is usually underdone and doughy.... a few more minutes in the oven would do it justice. Also, the sauce is pretty bad if you ask me. I've never had sauce that is so bland! If I give into the convenience of pizza right next door, I make sure to have the salt shaker handy..... And who the heck serves COLD sauce with a calzone??? Grimaldi's does.... My advice, save your $$, as this place is VERY overpriced for what it is.

Sure, I love my big NYC pizza slices all the time, but Grimaldi's is great coal brick oven pizza. I try to bring all my Hoboken visitors to Grimaldi's and it still has definitely not gotten old yet. I agree with the reviewers that the center can be soggy from time to time, but I think they do a great job with the crust and cheese. I had a group of friends over recently, and I had told them about Grimaldi's. I thought we'd all have to take a trip over to the restaurant, but I was surprised to hear they deliver. I was a little nervous that the delivery would take away from the pizza, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the pizza was still very good. I've never seen three boxes of pizza empty out so quickly.

My husband was really depressed moving to NJ and this pizzeria is the one thing that redeemed NJ, even if it's only 5 minutes from NYC downtown. The pizza is authentic old NY style thin crust Neapolitan pizza. It's pretty good, and the only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is because it's not as good as Patsy's on 118th and 1st in the city. Beware of the funny operating hours, they are not open all the time and when you think they should be serving pizza.

My bf and I go here religiously. It's consistent and we always know that it's fresh. We are hesitant in ordering out from here bc they get really busy and delivery can take a very long time-once it was undercooked. The fresh mozz on the pizza is great! I would steer clear of getting more then 2 toppings as it will come soggy and ur forced to use utensils to eat it. We usually get the personal pizzas to avoid soggy centers and they are the perfect size :) We get a side of gravy for dipping the crust and it seems like it is just crushed tomatoes. Another reason why you feel somewhat healthy eating it. The house salad is perfect to share-not crazy about their mozz salad bc I think they refridgerate the cheese and it is "chewy". Although I am spoiled living in Hoboken with the best mozz around. Great place for family dining any big groups. One of the best pizzas in town!

This is one of the better pizza places in Hoboken. Thin crust and good flavor. It's nowhere near as amazing as pizza napoletana, but when I'm too lazy to go into NYC, Grimaldi's suffices. Overall, I've been satisfied with each visit. They are basically a simple, casual, no-frills type of place. Go in, eat your pizza, drink your bucket of brews, and get outta there. Not really a type of place to hang out-- nor would you want to. Decor is mediocre and if you go at a bad time, the place feels like Chuck-E-Cheese's with all the screaming kids. If you can only go early evening when all the kids come out, my boyfriend suggests sitting all the way in the back on the platform where the oven is. They can't get their strollers up there. LOL. It's a pizza place, so don't expect service to be top notch. I've never had a problem with service here anyway.

Maybe I was disapointed because this place was so well known and got such good reviews - but I found Grimaldi's underwhelming. Pizza's are small and expensive and while the toppings were fresh the overall pizza was just ok.

Simply the best pizza in town - a title I don't bestow lightly. Great cheese, great sauce. I feel lucky that this is my local pizza place! Not as good as the Brooklyn branch, but excellent.

Worth the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge! My brother kept telling me we needed to get to this place early, because of the line....LINE? For Pizza?! WHAT?! So, we get there around 12, and the line was NO joke! There were 40-50 people already waiting in line for some pizza! WHOA! I need a slice now for sure!! We called in our order, avoided the line, and devoured the delicious pizza outside, on the dock. This is the BEST pizza I have ever had! The ingredients were so fresh! Mozzarella, basil, sauce, pepperoni, & the crust...OMG!! So good!! No pizza will ever compare now! I'm still dreaming about this pizza! :) This review is for the Grimaldi's in Brooklyn, no Yelp profile?!

  • J. S.

If you aren't from the greater NYC area this is the review you need to read. First, it's thin crust reverse-style pizza - they put the cheese on top of the crust and then the sauce on top of the cheese. If that's not how you like it, don't order from here. The good - they use real mozzarella and the sauce is tasty. The bad - there isn't nearly enough of either on the pie, especially sauce. If I can put down a large pie in an evening, that's not good. If you like a lot of cheese and sauce on your pizza like I do, this is not for you. And it's a little on the pricey side. Pizza is pretty sad in Hoboken when the best you've had is Papa John's...

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
