My husband and I saw this restaurant as we were driving by and intrigued by the name, we decided to stop and see what it was. We almost didn't go in because there was a big party in progress, but as we turned away the proprietress came out and said "Come in, come in, we have another room!" She was a nice lady, who didn't speak much English, but she was very friendly and tried her best to answer our questions about what various things on the menu were. The restaurant is very utilitarian in appearance on the inside, there are no tablecloths or much decoration, and the menu was not proof-read by someone who knows English very well. This is not a place to go to if you are looking for great ambiance. However, these are not criteria my husband and I care much about, we care about the food, so on to that. Not being terribly familiar with Latin American food (this is NOT a Mexican restaurant), most of the menu items were unfamiliar to us, but they sounded good. I ended up ordering a Puerto Rican dish called Mofongo, which if I understood the proprietress correctly is a plantain dish. It was mashed with lots of garlic and I chose to have it served with the pork, which was delicious. The pork was chopped in bite-sized pieces and had good flavor and was in a base of sauteed onions and tomatoes. My husband ordered a dish called "Camarones Entomatados" or "Shrimp Sauteed with Tomatoes", which he was very happy with. The shrimp and tomatoes were very garlicky and rich in flavor. To drink I had the Tamarind Juice and my husband had the Horchata Salvadorena, which turned out to be similar to the standard Mexican horchata, but with a slightly different, good, flavor. The proprietress said the difference between the Mexican and Salvadoran Horchatas is that the Salvadoran has squash blended into it. The beverage list also included such interesting things as Soursop Juice, Passion Fruit Juice, Guava Juice, and something called "Chicha Morada", which is apparently made of purple corn, pineapple and cinnamon. Of course there were the normal fountain drinks too. We thought the price quite reasonable for what was obviously from scratch cooking, with our check for the two dinners and two beverages coming to $29. The time it took from between ordering the meal and when it arrived on the table was a bit slow (maybe a half an hour), maybe due to the big party in the other room, maybe not, I don't know, but the food was very good so it was worth the wait. The proprietress said they had only just opened in December (2012) and this was her first restaurant. When I asked her about the items on the menu she said that the food is from all over Latin America, but that she is from El Salvador. She encouraged us to come back and next time try the pupusas, which are apparently her specialty. I don't know if they have a website, but I was able to find a Facebook page for them which does have their menu and pictures of their food on it: facebook.com/pages/Latin…

I yelped this on my way home form work and was in the mood for some "Mexican" Food. Since I only glanced at the restaurant description while stopped at a light, I did not see that it was NOT another Taco joint. I did suddenly feel very much "Gringo" as my assumption that Latin = Mexican, and I am very glad for that because I probably would not have checked Latin Legacy out. I also in my haste did not notice that Yelp indicated that they were close on Wednesday, but they were in fact quite open for business. Once I did see this I told the owner and he said he would have his daughter change it... so just know that they are open all day on Wed. I have no idea what I ordered. I just asked for a recommendation and had a little faith they would not make me something crazy (in my mind) like a tripe salad with donkey hoof. What I got was some kind of chicken in an orange colored sauce with rice, salad, and 2 pupusas. It was REALLY tasty! Like wow I need to broaden my horizons tasty. My dinner only came to just over $12 and I thought it was a fair price for the amount of food I received. I ate half and saved the rest for lunch the next day. I will definitely be back and will bring friends.

very good food. I went with recommendations for a shrimp Mofongo dish and it was delicious! Honestly, I had never had plantain before (for anyone who is in the dark like me - it looks like a large banana) Anyway, it tasted a bit like mashed potatoes. I also tried the cheese papusa and it was also very good. The owners are adorable and their service was superb. I will be back.

Stopped into Latino Legacy for a late lunch as I was in the area and starving. I ordered the mofongo with chicken and a glass of water. The chips and dip were pretty good; super crispy chips and the bean dip had good flavor. The mofongo itself was delicious - a great mix of textures. Crunchy, soft, and everything in between. The sauce on the chicken itself reminded me of a sauce that my mother used to make on a chicken casserole recipe from the 80s. Very delicious; it was maybe (emphasis on maybe) a touch on the salty side later when I reheated the leftovers. The little salad served on the side was dressed with a delicious vinaigrette, not too acidic and a good amount of crunchy cucumbers and ripe tomatoes. I'm a sucker for a good pupusa and I love horchata as well, so I'll be back to try those soon!

Skip the same old fast food or chain restaurant. This place takes the cake for a great Latin food experience. Very pleasant and welcoming owners and authentic food made with love.

Tried another of the Latin food restaurants in omaha. This one is a little tucked away and sign is a bit hard to read from the road so keep your eyes open. lol Decor - diner chic. Nothing special but expectations were minimal. 3 stars Food - Ordered the lunch special... chicken in a cream sauce with dominican rice, and a bean and cheese papusa. Lunch appeared within minutes and was very good. A whole chicken had been chopped with a clever so you had to watch for bones but the flavor was good.... as was the rice. The papusa was ok but nothing great. Food - 4 stars Service was quick and friendly... no complaints - 4 stars Price - the place was pricey. Lunch special for two with drinks was over $30. Little stiff for lunch... 2 stars Overall pretty good... but for the price, I will keep looking.

I went to Latino Legacy yesterday not knowing what to expect. What I found was WONDERFUL food and service. How nice to find this PuertoRican/Latin American food right here in Omaha. Mostly all Latino restaurants in Omaha are Mexican. Nice to see other Latino cuisines introduced. I highly recommend it.

Best in town and authentic, hasnt been whitified yet and thank the Lord for that! Its like going on a little tropical vacation for your mouth. Best fried plantains in town. Very accommodating customer service. Horchatta is extraordinary. Colombian platter has a little bit of everything there is to give. Ceviche is perfectly executed. Dont mind the plastic table cloth, you will be thankful its there as you plunge through your tropical food adventure.

Went here for lunch with a group of friends on a weekday. I'm not super familiar with the area, so we drove past it the first time. It's in a strip mall with a grocery store, tattoo shop and some other random stuff. I had seen this place online and discovered that they had something I loved from days in Boston (Jamaica Plain, represent, baby)--pupusas! Walking in, the place seems pretty clean. A view country-specific decorations on the walls, very simple tables and chairs, and tvs. The place was nearly empty; that's a shame. The wait staff was incredibly friendly and open. They checked on us regularly and even shared stories about how/when the foods were traditionally eaten (some folks had never had the food before). We had a mix of Puerto Rican and Salvadoran food: I went on a meatless day so, I can only vouch for the meatless stuff. bean and cheese pupusas (good) a breakfast dish with beans, eggs, cheese, plantains and tortilla (pretty good--the cheese was good, but there was some mayonaissy thing on the plate that was kind gross) Some cole slaw-looking dish that was kind of spicy, if you like cole slaw (I don't), you may like it. beef stew (my lunch mates like this) something with tripe that I didn't dare to try (it was in a stew) and mofongo (got a thumbs up for this from the group). We asked for a side of salsa and, according to the table, it was crazy hot, so if you're not a spicy person, don't ask for it. All in all, good food for decent prices. Would differently try it again. Wepa!

Fantastic food. You have to try it. The saying hole in the wall? BEST FOOD just like home in Brooklyn. We're in Iowa 4 hours away and plan on coming back when we are in Nebraska! I wish they would move to Iowa City.

AUTHENTIC! Never did I imagine that I would find authentic Salvadorean food, let alone Peruvian food in Nebraska, but this place is the REAL DEAL. Great family-owned environment, friendly and neat. My wife and I had the lomo Saltado and pupusas and they were fantastic, they tasted like the ones our families made back home. Definitely coming back, more than ecstatic to have found this place.

Tasty food. Very helpful staff (as I have no idea what most of the dishes are). Loved the chicken with cream and the shrimp with tomato sauce. The pupupas filled with pork and cheese are very tasty.

Having moved from NYC this place reminds me of great home cooking and family. If you are looking for great Latin food and great people, come here! The maduros and tostones taste great. The lomo saltado is truly delicious. It's worth the trip for some genuine Latino/El Salvadorian food!

I live within the surrounding area of Latino Legacy. This is the second time that I have eaten here. I am definitely going to be a repeat customer. I walked in and was greeted by the owner with a big handshake and a smile. They had a small flat screen that had a slide show of different plates, and appetizers. Which in my business that is key they just stimulated impulse sales. I had the sweet plantains with beef and cheese that I saw on the screen. I have had plantains before but never like this. Everyone must try these! The hostess said it was more of a puerto rican style variety. I asked what the special was and had the beef stew. It was delivered to me promptly and looked pleasantly plated with a mound of rice, mole sauce, small salad with tomato and cucumber. The hostess and I had a conversation about soccer and sports events we liked. The Chef came out and she was very a warm, kind individual! I gave this five stars because of the environment, prompt and kind service. With tea, plantains and the beef stew being the main course it rang up to $19. That's totally worth it in my book!
