Sometimes I miss Omaha. Not for all the great steakhouses (and there are many) but for the New York style pizza served at Zio's. You can stop looking for the world's best pizza. It's right here.

Zero stars. METAL IN MY PIZZA!!! The reviews stating that this is 'good' pizza are lies or just come from ppl who don't know what good pizza actually tastes like. I was mildly enjoying a piece of my pizza and then I bit into a slice and something immediately cut the side of my mouth... Turns out a piece of twisted wire/metal was hidden underneath the cheese and toppings. You've gotta be kidding me... It obviously could have just been a mistake but if I had actually swallowed it I would have had to go to the hospital.

After arriving in Omaha my daughter and I walked to the old market in search of good eats. Pizza was mediocre. Salad was sub-par. Not sure how this compares to other restaurants in the neighborhood but I plan to find out as I feel no need to come back here. 3 stars because there was nothing really horrible about the meal, but def not a memorable experience. Kind of annoying that they charged us 55 cents for a tiny cup of ranch dressing too...really?

Old Market location review: good food, had slice with Canadian bacon, pepperoni and Romano cheese. Great crust. Solid sauce. BBQ wings were good, with good sauce. Serve Pepsi products unfortunately. Service was slow to say the very least. Friendly but not fast at all.

Pizza sounded good so why not Zio's right? Downtown shopping so we went in.... and than it went down hill. A few tables at first, just missed the main lunch rush 4 servers and floor manager Service started out fine with drinks and appetizers offered. No kids cups? That's just silly. Garlic cheese bread for me and the two little ones. Not a bad flavor and marinara was just right! Kids ordered typical cheese pizza, one slice split into 2 I ordered by the slice- 1 chicken buffalo and el taco and a side salad ranch on the side Salad never came out.. which was a disappointment Pizza by the slice came out wrong. Took a bite of the chicken basil noticing that it wasn't buffalo. Had to wait to get the servers attention to get it fixed and notified her that I didn't need the salad now since she clearly forgot She had a notepad when we ordered? What the hell happened. It took an additional 20 minutes for the other slice to come. Put a damn rush on it! You messed up!!!! Business started to become busier with more tables piling in by the second. I brought the crowd in for their second rush. My kids were excited about cotton candy being on the desert menu but it wasn't offered. Why should I have to remind the server how to do her damn job It doesn't make any sense to me. Clearly the server had no idea how to do her job correctly because she was trained poorly by management. I hope the owners read this and fix the damn problem After finally receiving the check I was charged for the pizza that she said she would take off for me I shouldn't have to pay for that mess up when I waited patiently for it I contacted the manager and explained and it was taken off I didn't leave a tip because it was terrible.(service) The food was OK Brittany needs to be trained again or fired!

I have been to all the Zio's locations several times over the years and it's almost always really good. I can't remember having a bad experience with the food itself. Also, I love thin crust. Most recently I went there this past Friday with my sister and her 3 kids (all under age 10). We got there shortly after they opened at 11:20 and that was a good time to go as it was packed with the downtown lunch crowd about a half hour later. Lunch specials include 2 slices & a soda or a slice, salad & soda. Being health conscious, I opted for the latter but wished I had done the 2 slices because the pizza was great and the salad was good but nothing super special. For my slice I chose pepperoni and green pepper while my sister went with chicken and artichoke hearts. The staff also gave my nieces and nephew little balls of dough to play with to keep them occupied while we waited for our food. It worked!

Ordered Zios to pick up for a photo shoot crew on the Old Market. Went to pick up the order and pepperoni had been put on the Zucchini pizza even tho I had asked it be replaced with spinach. The chef tried to hide the pizza from me and pick the pepperoni off. I approached him to explain when it comes to a vegetarian diet that is unacceptable. Couldn't fix the order as they where out of dough.... No dinner for my crew and I'm on the line for it . Let's see if I get my card credited back.

This is really good pizza! If you're ever in the downtown Onaha area, I would recommend you stop into Zio's

Stopped in with the family to pick up a slice of pie before going to a show. Server greeted us upon entering and sat quickly. Menu has a good selection of pies, but noticed that while slices are reasonable, the price for a whole pie gets expensive fairly quickly. The restaurant also serves salads and sandwiches. Got a slice of hamburger, thai, and a combination. Zio's calls this "New York Style", but that to me is nice and chewy, not hard and crunchy which is what we got. The most off putting thing of the evening was when I got tomato sauce on my slice of Thai pizza. Who puts tomato sauce on that type of specialty pizza? The taste was not good. No where else in the country have I ever had tomato sauce on a Thai slice. Asked the server, statement was that all the slices are pre-made and have tomato sauce automatically. I asked whether a freshly made Thai pie had tomato sauce as well....the answer was yes. Not good. I ate the crust and one or two bites. Waitress got me a discount since I did not like it and said she would advise the manager and see whether they change the way they prepare it. Very thoughtful of the waitress (3+ for her) Nothing we had would make us go out of our way to go back.

I had ravioli and a medium pizza, they were both just ok, I would probably not eat here again. I also called for delivery and they said they had stopped delivery for the night, that was around 8:30pm, pretty lame.

  • Randy S.

Brought some out of town guests telling them how great Zios pizza was. It was absolutely the worst dining experience I have ever had. We waited 15 minutes for a hostess to seat us, no line in front of us, had to walk back to the bar to ask for seating assistance. We waited another 15 minutes for waitress. It took forever to get food ordered, silverware delivered. Once our salads were delivered, they did not look fresh. Our cheese bread was cold. We waited and waited for our pizza.,... I would highly recommend skipping this place!

  • Kasia G.

Love this place but took the pizza almost two hours to get here in mildly inclement weather even though I live a few blocks away. Pizza arrived cold, and so you know, there's a $3 delivery charge. Would have liked at least a call or discount as I could have picked it up faster, but we called twice to see where it was. I've had better service over a longer distance in worse weather in big cities. I've worked in retail and have a hard time easily remedied poor customer service :/

  • Caleb W.

This pizza is terrible. I've never had pizza this bland. The sauce has absolutely no flavor, the cheese, an toppings are of very low quality, and it looks awful to top it all off. I still have yet to find even decent pizza in Omaha. Don't go here

  • Amber H.

YUM! This is a review for the old market locations delivery service: Ordered a medium pie...arrived it my hotel in about 40 minutes--which is exactly what the woman on the phone told me. Good pizza, great delivery:) Also, had the Central Park salad. Delicious:)

    (4)
  • Melisa V.

I'll just start with moldy artichokes. Yes, we had moldy artichokes on our salad. The only reason this isn't one star is because the distracted manager did come over to let us know that he told our server to take the salads off our bill and apologized to us for the issue. The service was horrible but our pizza was okay. I was disappointed that no one thought to bring my son pizza dough to play with. We had to ask for it after noticing other kids playing with it. We don't live in Omaha, so we came here based upon the reviews and desire to find somewhere kid-friendly. Upon leaving we realized why the concierge at our hotel didn't suggest it (the spaghetti place had a 45-min wait) and why we were able to be seated immediately at 6:30 on Saturday night!

  • Rayray J.

We ordered a take out for a medium size Thai pizza and one fried ravioli for dinner. (Why is it so hard to find a pizzeria who actually does a real delivery service in Omaha?) ...love the veggies in the pizza, pretty balanced -- tasty but less guilty, rich cheese and low-calorie toppings, good job. The ravioli has good filling but the sheet/wrapper is a bit too thick and dry. However, in general, not bad for a quick dinner.

  • Robert N.

I can't explain the long wait. I can't recommend the mediocre pizza. This place used to be a cornerstone of the downtown food scene. Other Zio's locations are on their game. Not this one. Plenty of other, better, options around for a quick bite.

    (2)
  • Ashley M.

Good ranch, and plenty of delicious bready things to dip in it.

  • Will S.

What can I say? Zio's is Zio's. While their downtown location is probably my favorite of the three, the food overall is still a bit bland for my liking. I've been here dozens of times and likely will end up here dozens of more times, but is it my favorite pizza in Omaha? No way. On my last visit, I had a slice of the Veggie Supreme and the New York Deluxe. Not sure what I was thinking. Both slices came overstocked with toppings and had that problem where the cheese and mess of meat/veggies just slipped right off my slice, forcing me to use a fork. I'll never complain about going to Zio's, but I know to expect a solid three star experience each and every time. There are no surprises here.

I ate here recently for lunch. Had bad service here by guy at register with dark hair. I asked him for the day's special. He responded it was in the menu. I thought this was bad service. I wrote a review here but Yelp removed it. I guess I hit a nerve with my review. Anyway, just wanted to say the service here was bad. I did want to make sure I said that the pizza was good. Won't be returning though.

Our post cocktail spot and boy did they deliver! I really enjoyed the Pizza options-slice, small, med large etc along with a variety of other items. I started with the Thai Pizza and that was so delicious! It was topped off with this sweet and spicy sauce that really made me forget for a second which restaurant I was in! I opted for a second slice and had the Hawaiian! This slice was garlic heavy and I loved it! The pineapple and ham and garlicy cheesy combo were exactly what I needed. The environment was ok, great company but the staff seemed almost as though they were rather complacent with us deciding to eat there. I would go back for a slice though for sure if in the area.

Their pizza was awesome. We also had the ravioli appetizer which was very good too. I highly recommend Zio's.

I've been coming here since high school in the 80s and I have nothing but favorable memories of the place. The food has always been fantastic. We visit every time we're in Omaha. Tonight, however, was one of the worst visits I've had. Service was sooooo slow. Drinks took forever. When we finally got our food, the server brought all of the adults' food before the kids (and I'm pretty sure that violates the first rule of waiting tables!). The pizza (1-2 slices per person) was cold by the time we got it. The pizza was meh. Not impressive. No one was cleaning tables until they finally got one *really* loud guy who started tossing dishes in a tray when the line got long. Also, PARENTS OF BABIES & YOUNG CHILDREN, BE WARNED: There is no diaper changing table. They have a small dining table - seriously - in the corner of their handicap stall. When I asked the manager, she told me to use it to change my daughter's diaper. This is a major snub to the young families eating there (easily half the traffic tonight). But good news: If they get busy, they can just drag that table back out to the dining room and allow customers to eat off of it. I'm not sure I'll be stopping here again. There's enough other good restaurants in the Old Market. So disappointing.

I don't write very many 2 star reviews and it is tough to write this one as my experiences at the dodge and center street locations have been very positive but my experience at the downtown location tonight wasn't great. I will say our server was very friendly so I will give him that, but that was the only positive of the night. First, the place needs a deep clean. We were sitting at a booth and I could see dried drops of soda on the walls. The high chairs are also in rough shape. The first one we got, the strap to buckle your kid in was broken. I go to get another one, same story. A general inventory/quality check of this equipment needs to be done. On to the food, my side salad had a decent amount of brown/wilted lettuce. After our salads, pizza took a good 25+ minutes to arrive. When it did arrive it was warm and that description might be an exaggeration. My toppings were not evenly distributed, but rather piled in one spot. I will go back to the other zio locations but this one really needs some work.

  • Nathan W.

I'll give it three stars for the pizza, but nothing else. The pizza is pretty decent, and I usually enjoy it. The salad I got had browned lettuce in it. It's not hard to keep fresh lettuce. I think that is a reflection of how much you care about the quality of your food. I feel like if you care about your business and the quality of food you serve, using fresh lettuce that isn't browned is not even a question. Additionally, the service was pretty terrible. We got our pizza but the waiter did not bring plates. After waiting a few minutes (thinking maybe he was still going to get them) we got his attention while he was waking past for the third time not even noticing we hadn't started eating yet. He finally brought the plates but forgot the ranch. He wasn't really apologetic about it either. Pizza was good, but overall I was not impressed.

I really like their pizza, which is always made with fresh ingredients including yummy mozzarella cheese. I also like the fact that they have non meat (shrimp) specials during Lent. I really enjoy a good pizza.

My favorite pizza place of all time. Been coming here for years. Pizza, wings, and salad will have you covered. Service can be a little slow but the pizza and prices make up for it.

Best NY style pizza and wings in Omaha. Plus the location in The Old Market is great.

In one visit, we knew we had made a good choice in Zio's for the family. Had no trouble getting 7 people seated on a Friday dinner rush. Served quickly & found Great value and good food all around.

  • Arthur Y.

Their meals and appetizers are very affordable. The sauces and dressings are full of flavor and their pizzeria boasts natural and fresh ingredients. Portion size is good and should be able to feed a person. Pizza is hand made and a bit thinner and crunchy not like a pizza chain pizza. The employees will always be around to help you.

Zio's is one of those pizza joints where I come to repeatedly and feel at home. The New York Deluxe is my go-to choice. You can select beef or sausage; I like the beef variety. The pizza also has green peppers which are cooked to perfection. The hand-tossed crust makes me want to cry it is so delicious! Nice, baked to perfection dough with a dusting of flour win me over time and time again. The cheese raviolis are always cooked to perfection; crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. A marinara dipping sauce adds to the flavor. The house salad comes with your choice of house Italian or ranch. The Italian dressing is a bit oily, but still has a nice flavor. The service is pleasant for the most part. It varies of course on who the waiter/waitress is. I've had servers blow me away with how attentive they were. Other times, we had to actually go up to the register and ask for our check as if we had been forgotten about. The atmosphere is warm and retro in the Old Market. Love the old pictures of New York City! The restroom was clean as well. Prices are not out of line with other pizza chains. I look forward returning soon.

Zio's Thai pizza used to be a treat. Today AGAIN I got my 'za late, room temperature and without the extra sauce I ordered when I called. $42 including tip for a disappointing pizza is a mistake I'm not repeating.

We were stopping through and this place delivered to the hotel we were at so we gave it a shot. We are from Chicago so rarely find pizza better. We were pleasantly surprised though. The pizza was pretty good. They told us an hour for delivery and we got it sooner than that. Which is nice considering usually delivery takes forever. The only negative was I ordered Alfredo pasta and received what I would consider a half order. But overall a good experience.

    (4)
  • Alicia J.

Quick easy Italian but that reflects in the food. In their defense we did not order pizza, just pasta, hoagie, and wings for an app. Extremely sub par and under seasoned but we were in and out quickly which was nice.

I should post at this point redemption for Zio's has been achieved. My wife and I stopped in at the Dodge Street location Saturday night. All I can say is this is what a customer expects when coming to Zio's. .....good pizza and good service. Nice rebound and thank you for allowing us to "refire" from a questionable experience a few weeks back. Once again there are points that need work, but this was far better than the last time. Thanks for fixing the problem .

The food and service was great, super quick which is great for the workers on their lunch hour. The cashier who took our order wasn't as friendly. I guess I can understand if i was a cashier and had a huge line of people waiting to eat could be daunting. The food runner younger gentleman, was very sweet and nice. When the salads were delivered to our table they forgot mine. The food runner brought it out promptly and with a genuine concern. This is a great pizza place and we will definitely return.

Horrible service, do not wast your time. Disorganized bunch of people running biz, not a good experience with service and food was mediocre at best. I can not and will not recommend.

  • Mike H.

Always nice when you can order a slice instead of only a whole pie. Great crust. Solid pizza each time. Not my favorite but I would never ever complain visiting Zio's. A safe bet for us being from out of town. We visited on a busy Old Market Friday night. We seemed to come at a good time as it was comfortably busy. My wife was happy as she was able to choose a table next to an outlet so she could power her phone. If you visit on a weekend night you might meet the Ballon Lady who, as she told us, works only for gratuite. Hint hint. She made a nice penguin for my son and a flower hat for my wife. I passed.

During my college years, nothing helped a hangover more than a slice of Zio's. Greasy, cheesy, and big, these pizza slices helped me go from wanting to shoot myself in the head to feeling up to facing the day. For $5, you can get a lunch special that includes a side salad (their Italian dressing is the best), a slide of pizza, and a glass of pop. Deal. This location used to have more of a dive feeling, but it's undergone renovation in the past two years and even moved down the street a bit. It's definitely got that annoying "trendy" feeling now... definitely would get some stares now if I stumbled in here, sunglasses on head, at 11am on a Saturday.

We were excited to try this pizzeria based on the great reviews, but I am sad to report it was disappointing. Don't order the barbecue wings unless you like them slightly warm and drenched with barbecue sauce. I ordered a salad and the waitress later asked me three separate times if I stll wanted my salad! The last time she asked I finally just told her to forget the salad. As for the pizza, we ordered 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 veggie. The pizza was basically wet and soggy and the sauce had no flavor. I had to eat it (while it was falling apart) with a fork. This is speaking for the veggie only. The waitress told me next time, I should just order it well done...well, there won't be a "next time" for us. Maybe others will have a better experience here...

  • Julian S.

I really don't know what's so great about this pizza. A group of work buddies and I went in for lunch, and many of us thought we should order the pizza. I was really stoked that they had such an expensive topping selection, and so I chose to order the two-slice, two-topping lunch special. I specifically ordered the meatball and pepperoni toppings. When the pizza came out, I could barely pick up the pizza without it flopping precariously - the bottom was so thin that it was nearly soaked in the sauce. It seemed as if the folks making the crust spread the dough just a bit too thin... I had end up eating the pizza with a fork and knife... The flavor of the toppings, sauce, and cheese was definitely there, but at the end of the day it's really about the base of the pizza: the crust. Was disappointed, probably won't return here if I'm ever in Omaha again.

I am huge Yelper and rely on the reviews and tips to make decisions when I travel and eat out. This place had great reviews which I now realize are driven on the price comparison. I ordered a mini Calzone and two flavors of Chicken wings for delivery. The delivery guy was great and got a big tip! The food was middle of the road.... I like to think I am a bit of a pizza expert! The blend of Ricotta and mozzarella had a unique texture that did not work for me, it was like eating a lasagna that did not bake long enough. The wings were slightly better, crispy outside yet tender and juicy inside. I would say for the money this is a can't miss... My meal was $16 for the calzone and 12 wings. As for best ever.....doesn't even hit the list.

Honestly, I love their food, but one of the managers at the downtown location is exceptionally rude. Especially when placing to-go orders. And the owner of this business is a complete bitch. I used to work here when I was a teenager and she was rude to everyone but especially the employees and any contractors that she hired to work on the building. Also, her brother used to be a waiter here and would steal tips from the other employees and she would let him. I will still eat here because I love the pizza, but these are some points to consider. The Dodge street location is way better than the downtown one.

Zio's was a wonderful restaurant in a very trendy area of Omaha. I ordered a calzone and man, was it big. It's hard to find parking around Zio's however the walk is worth it as the restaurant has many options for any pizza fan. I was very impressed with the service, the atmosphere and of course the food. I really appreciated that my waiter gave me a few tips to make sure I didn't spend too much - he suggested instead of building my own calzone, find one on the menu that I liked and just substitute - I saved about $5 dollars that way. Overall, Zio's is a fun place in a cool part of Omaha with a great menu - try it out!

I used to travel for a living and when I first came to omaha I used to stay just down the street. Ever since I first tried this place, I have fallen in love with it. It's a hole in the wall type place that has been around forever. The place gets a GREAT crowd too. They have a great menu with great prices, and offer pizza by the slice. I have always raved that they have the best garlic cheese bread I have ever had. Yes I know I said "great" several times but hey it really is and I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who is in the area.

Went here with a few out of town friends. The outside crust seems really thick to me--I don't know why it's called NY Style pizza. I used to live in the Northeast and have been to NY a lot and this isn't like the pizza I had there. That being said, the veggie XL pizza we had was huge and had lots of veggies on it, so that was good. Good for the price. Not the best pizza in the world, but I tend to like just about any pizza. My friends seemed to like it a lot, so maybe I'm being a food snob. However, it was loud and full of kids when we went on a Friday night. One of the kids even walked by my table and touched my food (and his mom didn't even scold him). Kind of gross. Inside seems clean enough, but I'm not sure I'd come here as a first choice for pizza.

I checked this place out on recommendation from a local friend while visiting Omaha. It's not your girly piece of pepperoni pizza, they have a ton of toppings and combinations. There is nothing wrong with using a fork to eat pizza. I needed a fork for one slice that had everything on it. The crust is good, nice and toasty. In some circumstances I'm a fan of Alfredo sauce on my pizza, substituting for the OG marinara, and I always like when a place offers that option. My friend ordered the Thai pizza. I tried a piece, and it was very good. It was very different. I can see this place expanding with future success.

I hope my in-laws don't see this review, because they really like this place. Let me start with the good. They have very good pizza, and you can order it by the slice. It comes out pretty fast. The crust was crispy/chewy, like a good east coast crust. They have a good variety of styles and toppings, and you are welcome to build your own slice. Now for the bad. It's a dump. Kinda loud and not very clean. They had a crappy selection of beers. We were served by a person who either didn't know how to serve, or she hated her job. Impersonal, inattentive, didn't know about the menu, handed one of us a beer behind the back of another, the list goes on and on. The worst part was the men's restroom. There is a table RIGHT next to the door. When that door is opened, the whole table looks in. And what do they see? The backs of guys standing at the urinals doing their thing. I don't want to see that when I'm eating, and I don't want to be seen when I'm peeing. It's simply unacceptable. We will never go to Zio's again.

This is not New York Pizza. Before I begin, here are my New York credentials. I was born in New York State, New York City, in New York County. I grew up in Queens. My usual order is 2 plain slices, I dust them in oregano, garlic, and red pepper. And I fold my slices in half when I eat them. Don't come here thinking you're getting New York-style Pizza. I ordered a large "pie" with sausage, but 30min later, what came out was a flat, standard sized soggy pizza pie. The slices fell apart when you pick them up, as half of the slice, cheese and all, slid off. And you can't even fold these things they're so soggy! I understand that Omaha isn't New York, and that they can't import the secret ingredient (the tap water) out here, but the pizza should never be soggy. NY-style pizza is large, flat slices that fold. NOT a ball of soggy cheese you need to eat with a fork and knife. I'm not knocking on this place because it lacks credentials, but what they serve is barely even pizza. I want to reiterate that it was a soggy ball of cheese. Service was the only saving grace for this place. It was helpful and caring, but never too annoying. However, if they're going to flaunt their NY credentials and play those annoying Times Sq commercials on local tv, then they should learn how to take orders the NY way (it's a pie, not a pizza)

The power went out downtown for a day and I had to throw everything out that was in my fridge. I was getting hungry and decided to go search the old market for a place to eat. Almost nobody was open because their power was out, but Zio's pizza was open and I decided what the heck, let me try this place out. Now, let me start by I am not from the East Coast, so I know NOTHING about New York Style Pizza. In fact, I have never even heard of "NY Style" pizza other then when I popped into this place. I ordered a 3-cheese Calzone/ "Mini Calzone" . This thing was huge. It was golden brown with cheese bubbling from the top upon it being placed in my to-go box. It comes with red, marinara style dipping sauce that is so darn good. The item was under $6 and easily filled me up. It was oozing with cheese and was so flavorful. The Breading was cooked to perfection. Golden, very slightly crunch on the outside, and warm and soft on the inside. I am going to try the pizza the next time I go. Again, I have no clue what NY Style Pizza is supposed to be, but with as fresh as my Calzone tasted, I can't imagine the pizza being bad.

    (5)
  • Meghan S.

If you're a fan of New York style pizza, this isn't the place to go... I know folks in Omaha love this stuff, but's sub par at best mostly due to slice pies made hours ago that they then add whatever you order onto the slice and recook the slice. greasy and just Meh. Place could use a good cleaning.

Normally I love this restaurant. Today we went and they burned the bottom of my pizza. I said something to our waiter and he said "well sometimes they have bad days back there. If I could change it out for you I would but they don't give me that kind if power." This was the second waiter after our first one left sick after being on the job for ten minutes. Just not a good experience. :(

Zio's Pizza was recommended to me when I was on the airplane, on the way to Omaha. I consider myself a bit of a pizza connoisseur, but my experience at Zio's was less than delightful. I ordered the zuchinni pizza, and was served the veggie delight pizza. Oddly enough, the person who recommended the place, also said that they served him the wrong pizza on one occasion. Secondly, they display themselves as a New York style pizza place, but the pizza was crunchy, and not nearly as big as a NY Style slice. Folding of the pizza would be nearly impossible. As for my not-ordered, non-NY style veggie pizza... It was as expected. I have no complaints about the actual slice of pizza, had it been what I ordered, it would have been satisfactory.

enjoyed my pizza when i was there. although I was confused why i paid $10 and change for 2 slices and a drink when it was their special.. starting at $6.50 or so.. surely my veggie pizza wasnt a specialty to cost that much. but regardless, it was good.

Interestingly, this place screams New York so much, it's as hoarse and brash as ex Mayor Koch. That said, despite my overall positive experience here, I will say that they do not serve NY-style pizza and calzones. Sorry, Zio's! I love you, but let's be real here. I'm going to start with what's great about this place (and I did love it!) They offer kids a giant scoop of pizza dough to play with. What a BRILLIANT idea! I couldn't have ever known this, but well, you might as well have given parents a Valium, as this occupied the kids throughout the slightly longer than expected wait for our food (I don't mind waiting for food when they warn you on the menu it takes extra time. It's when I feel that I've been forgotten that I start to get antsy). Our waitress was sweet and friendly. The food came out and did not disappoint as far as flavor and quality goes. But. A true pizzeria in NY does not serve a calzone that is mainly mozzerella! I grew up on these suckers, and I know that a calzone comes with mostly ricotta and no sauce on the side (personally, I'm a sauce fiend, so love the sauce on the side, but that's not a traditional way of serving it in NY). The pizza was tasty. Crust very much what I will call Midwestern trying to be NY style. Thinner crust but still kind of spongy. I'm not saying I didn't like it and would gladly be a regular at Zio's if I lived in Omaha. I love the atmosphere as well. The giant blown up photographs of the Brooklyn Bridge, Stock Exchange, Empire State building, Rockefeller, etc. made my heart hurt for home. It's loud in there, but it's not deafening and it's kind of the place where you'd expect it to be full of loud tawkers, y'know? A fun environment to bring folks of all ages.

Cheap pizza with a wide variety of topping choices, not to mention fair drink prices -- a combination that makes Zio's a dependable destination. They offer more vegetable toppings than other places, which is a plus. I hear the salad and pasta options are good. The pizza is pretty standard, all in all. Greasier than some, but not too far gone. The crust is thin but not particularly crispy, more chewy, not my favorite. While the pizza doesn't have a particular defining attribute, it's a couple notches above most pizza chains for its fuller flavor and higher quality toppings. I also love the garlic cheese bread.

Takes AMEX. Recommended by a friend from Omaha. Great suggestions. Had the pizza and it was quite above average. Further validation that you can get good pizza anywhere as long as someone cares to make it. I wouldn't classify this as New York-style though - the crust is a little fuller and less charred.

This place is more family-orientated with screaming kids (at least while I was there). Not really recommended for "date night". Nothing really special - I ordered a three-topping calzone and was disappointed with the volume of ingredients and the size. It kind of looked like an overweight hockey puck, instead the traditional calzone that I am used to which looks like an folded apple turnover with sauce, cheese and toppings.

I give this place four stars for their calzones but one star for their pizza - so i guess it evens out to three stars. The location is good, the staff is friendly and the calzones are very good. The pizza on the other hand is just plain awful. It's pretty bad there but god forbid you get take out. It is the soggiest, greasiest thing around. Just horrible.

Have I really not reviewd this place yet?! Woah. The hell, brain? It's tasty pizza, but as some others have noted it's not *really* New York style, which is a shame. However, the prices are pretty darn good and having not been to any of the trendy pizza boutiques in town, I'd have to say this is close to the best you can get in Omaha.

I came here around 2 PM on a weekday and it was past the lunch crowd. The lunch specials still go on but I decided to get 2 slices. I went up to the counter and the person said I could customize my slices any way I want. That's a pretty good deal, you don't see that at too many places! Pizza - served fresh out of the oven and it's pretty good. However, it's nothing close to a NY slice and it's on the greasy side. Can't beat the price and customer service! It's good, but not like Lombardi's in NY.

This restaurant was recommended to us by the concierge at our hotel as the 'best pizza in Omaha' and because it was kid friendly. While the place was definitely welcoming to kids (in addition to crayons and kids menus they also got pizza dough to play with), it's by no means overrun with them. It would be a great place for groups of adults to hang out too. Prices are really reasonable- bordering on too good to be true. Beer was just $9 a pitcher and pizza slices/calzones started around $3-$6. The most exciting thing to us was that you can choose any of their specialty pizzas by the slice so we were able to try several kinds. All delicious! The server was really efficient and sweet- a true professional. Highly recommend!

Hair in my food. Just got done walking out after a nasty confrontation with the weaselly manager. After admitting they'd had other similar complaints today, he only offered to take our desserts off the bill. I told him I wanted the whole bill taken care of, and he reluctantly agreed with the caveat that when we go to another Zio's and find hair in our food, we shouldn't expect more than just the dessert to be gratis. Idiot. After that comment, does he really believe Zio's will ever see us again?

Stopped in for some lunch when I got into town the other day, and was pleasantly surprised. I went with the salad, slice, and soda lunch special, which said $6 on the menu but was actually $6.30. The salad was good (no cucumbers, hooray!), but it was literally swimming in dressing. Next time I'll get it on the side. Pizza made to order by the slice makes me happy, and this was good. I ordered pineapple and bacon, and it was really tasty. It was about 130 on a Tuesday, so the place was pretty dead, but it was really good. I'll keep it on my list of Old Market lunch places for sure!

Pros: Pretty good slice Cons: Not quite exactly New York style, kind of doughy Zio's isn't exactly New York style, but it's not a bad spot to get a "slice." I like the pepperoni style and always leave rather satisfied. The pizza is a bit on the doughy side, but other than that, can't complain about the pizza. Cold beer, pizza, really nothing too much to complain about.

Being from Chicago I dont expect much from other pizza places. I took one bit of the slice and I said " WOW this is good!" So yes, I would go here again. Laid back style of a place. Nice atmosphere.

Two stars for the old, old, old and sometimes a-little-too-dirty-for-my-liking space. Four stars for the pizza. See my review of the Zio's 78th & Dodge for more info on that... The downtown location does limited delivery (last time I checked) and has an awesome daily lunch special.

I Love Zios! Its my most fav. pizza place! I love all of the fresh ingredients, and the fresh dough! My daughter and I love to go and grab a slice after the Farmers Market. They have REALLY great spaghettl w/ meat sauce there as well. Im so happy that the Old Market location finally moved into a bigger place, it looks great! I wish that they would stay open later in the summer and just sell pizza by the slice (and to-go) after all the clubs/bars let out! That would be AMAZING!!! I have gone on many inebriated rants about this idea, so somebody please listen!

The only reason I am taking away a star is because the service doesn't seem to match the new ambiance. The service was probably worse when it was in it's old location, but I didn't seem to mind since it was a pizza dive. Now that they've 'classed things up' in the new space, the servers could have been more attentive (I had to ask for a refill each time and we ended up walking up to the counter to get the check). While the beer wasn't as cold as before, the albino sauce and chicken are still great.

Greasy, thin crust pizza is the name of the game here. It was good but not the best I've ever had. The kids were entertained with balls of raw pizza dough while we waited, and my wife ordered a small gluten free pizza that was topped with premium ingredients and carried an equally premium -- and unmarked on the table top menu -- price that caused us to look underneath the tray to see if it was lined with gold coins. Despite some of the other reviews I've seen, we found the staff to be nice and helpful. The atmosphere was typical of a pizza joint and things were clean and tidy. Probably won't go back again, but had an OK experience since we were out-of-towners.

Yum Yum! I love me some Zio's! I've tried other places in Omaha but they don't compare to Zio's. Their fresh toppings and their homemade dough make it the best. Their calzones are fantastic! I love the mini bronx! They have a great lunch special too. Two made to order slices of pizza and a drink for 6$. One slice is good enough for me so I like to take one home and eat it later. They also have heart shaped pizzas for Valentines day!

I enjoyed this place quite a bit. I had one of their calzones and it was seriously one of the best calzones I've ever had. Cooked just right, it had that great combo of fresh ingredients, cheese and a crust that had the right mixture of chewy and crispy textures. My companions enjoyed their created pizzas as well. A nice, comfortable spot in a great part of Omaha!

Zio's is one of the few places in Omaha that I miss eating at. Not at exactly, the service is a little slow, but I get the pizza by the slice or calzone to go and love it. If you like thin crust with a nice chewy edge this is the pizza for you. The pepperoni and grand slam are good choices by the slice and the veggie calzone makes you feel almost healthy.

Not bad - I was looking for a place where I could get a no-meat-on-Friday meal, and found this place. I tried three of their veggie pizza slices, which were big enough that I really only needed two. The specials for lent are posted on the wall without prices, so it's kind of a surprise as to what it will cost. The pizza slices arrived piping hot on a pizza pan. Of the three, I liked the straight veggie best. The pesto slice wasn't as good, but still tasted good. The place was noisy as all get out - hard ceilings and no baffles made it tough to hear my waitress.

A really nice pizzeria with great tasting pizza. My coworker and I would always come here at least twice a week when we were sent to Omaha for work. It doesnt compare to Ray's pizza in NYC but comes pretty close. A lot of great flavors and the ingredients are fresh. Plus they serve the pizza's by the slices which I like! Prices are cheap and the atmosphere is nice. Each time I go its never super busy. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating! Parking can be tough during the dinner hours.

For me, Zio's is a good slice but there's always a wait. Take-out, there's a wait. Eat-in, there's a wait. Delivery, yup, a wait. Trust me, I have eaten at Zio's a few times in my day. As for the style of pizza, hey, everything is relative. Being from the East Coast, my taste in pizza is a bit different than the locals. I like it classic. Cheese me please. Not oily, not saucy. Zio's is the best match for East Coast pizza that I've found, but it ain't East Coast style. Maybe a bit too much grease, and a bit doughy. I can't really speak for the toppings, I don't mess with the classics when it comes to my slice, but there's certainly a hell of a lot of options at Zio's. Including the alfredo sauce option... Who knew? I recommend it, but am not a devotee. My quest for *my* perfect slice continues...

Best pizza in Omaha, but often times slightly under cooked because there so packed with toppings. Chef salads have become chincy lately, or whoever made it doesn't know how to make salads by the instructions.

The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because of the amount of time I had to wait for my one slice of cheese pizza. I walked in and ordered a slice to go and then sat down at the counter. The guy at the register said it would be 10 minutes. It was well after lunch time too so there wasn't a large crowd in at that time. After 20 minutes I asked if my order was ready yet and the guy went back to check. He didn't come back out after that! Once it hit 45 minutes someone else came out with my order. I wasn't upset because honestly I didn't have anywhere to be immediately. However, I was hungry! The pizza was very hot and very good, I just thought it was strange to wait that long for a piece of cheese pizza.

If I'm in town and craving pizza, I'll either do Mama's or Zio's. Honestly, I opt for Zio's usually because it doesn't feel as artery-clogging, but the pizza at Zio's can still be greasy at times, depending on what you get. I *love* the Thai Chicken pizza here. I remember when they first introduced it, and it quickly became a favorite of my dad's. Now, it's my gold standard for good Thai pizzas. This is a great place to come and hang out with friends. I highly recommend it!

I went to this place with my boyfriend about a week ago on his recommendation, and really enjoyed it. It's a great value for what you're getting, and the atmosphere was inviting...it had a very "neighborhood pizza joint" feel. The guys taking our order were really friendly, and the free refills on soda (I love America...) also gets a + in my book. I had the Thai and BBQ Chicken pizzas (1 slice each)...the Thai was (in my opinion) just ok...I probably wouldn't get it again. The bean sprouts kept getting stuck in my teeth, but on the plus side, they do give you a little side of some Thai sweet sauce that was pretty tasty. The BBQ chicken, though, was really good...I would get it again in a heartbeat. My boyfriend got the Grand Finale, which he devoured so I assume it was good. Pizza places like this make me NEVER want to go to a Pizza Hut or Papa John's again...it was really quite excellent (despite my less than flattering review of the Thai pizza), and I would definitely go back.

I go here for their Margherita Pizza and have not tried anything else. Once you find a place that does a dish right, well, you just don't want it from any other place. The wait can be long but the pizza always comes out hot, fresh and bubbling with cheesy goodness.

Some people absolutely love leftover pizza-- served cold to retain that unique rubbery cheese texture! Once in a while, I don't mind it all. What I do mind is when I order delivery and am presented with pizza that looks like it has been sitting in the fridge overnight. I should have known it was going to be a bad experience. All the signs were there. I called Zio's to place an order and was told that it would take one hour. I said OK. The pizza arrived not one, but TWO hours later and it wasn't in a delivery bag. As I took the frigid box from the delivery person, who to her credit apologized profusely, I should have told her to forget about it and sent the damn thing back. But it was late and I was hungry. I figured that if I popped it in the oven, I could revive it. No such luck. The pizza looked as dejected as I felt. Soggy dough. Solid cheese. Unidentiable miscellaneous frozen toppings. Not good. The piece I lifted fell apart immediately. I let it slither back into the box. Good money down the drain. So much for Zio's "Grand Finale." Also, they do not list their prices on their website. Be prepared to spend a lot of dough for crappy dough. I hate store-bought frozen pizzas. But if forced to choose between Zio's pizzas and any generic frozen pizza, I'd opt for the store-bought stuff. The one star? Thank goodness for the buffalo wings I ordered. They saved me that night. I reheated them and they were quite delicious. ... or maybe I was just that famished.

Love the chicken pesto pizza. Have tried several other kinds, but don't remember what (we got slices of different kinds to try). We also tried a calzone and it was ok, not the best calzone I've ever had. Service is always pretty good when we go.

Zio's is top notch. If you don't like their pizza, then you just don't like pizza. Creative toppings, excellent crust, and reasonable prices. We always go back for more. I'd love if they opened a NW Omaha location!!

i want to like this place. when the pizza finally gets to you it usually tastes good but.... what really gets me it that, i swear, every time we have eaten there they are out of something-sorry no pesto, sorry no pizza .... really. once we went in on a friday or saturday night, and they said they were out of pizza! well, out of the dough. aren't they supposed to plan for that sort of thing? they are a pizza place. oh well, we've given up on them.

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer. This place is great. I find the quality of the food to be just the same as the Dodge location (i have not been to the one way west because I hate West Omaha). The characters that work here sometimes look a bit sketchy but it just adds to the kitsch of this place. The pizza and calzones are great.

  • Pukar R.

This is their new location and it's MUCH classier, nicer, and cleaner. Very refreshing after dealing with their old location in downtown. Anyhow, regardless of the location, their pizzas are definitely unique and delicious. I don't think I've tried a slice I didn't like, and they have a TON of variety or you can create you own. There's nothing like sipping on a beer and eating some great pizza.

This is a good place for a slice, and the place has a real pizza joint vibe. I think a New Yorker wouldn't like it just because it doesn't have "Ray's" in the name somewhere, otherwise you have no idea you are in Nebraska or a tourist area at all, just an owner-operated pizzeria

I have heard from many that I should go to Zio's but hadnt had the chance. When my in-laws were in town we were down in the Old Market and got hungry and I remembered Zio's. I have heard that the service is poor there but when we went it was great. Our server was super nice and since I had never been I asked what he recommended and he gave me his favorite choices depending on what different peoples tastes are. I ended up getting a slice of the Thai pizza and was not dissapointed, it was amazing.

amazing pizza, friendly staff, fat tire (Mmmm), super affordable. try the 3 cheese garlic bread. guaranteed bad breath for the remainder of the day, but super tastey none the less. lunch time can be a bit chaotic, so get there either early or late for lunch. LOVE zios... especially the downtown one.

  • Sheng S.

I like this place not for the pizza. It's a good value, and the location is convenient if you're downtown. I'm from NY, so Zio's to me is nothing like NY Pizza. The one out West tastes pretty much the same as the one downtown. The staff is different, and it's a different atmosphere. This is because they're in different neighborhoods.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
