What is it about Winchell's that makes me come here everytime I'm close by? It's like I'm Homer Simpson looking for his next doughnut fix....Upon entering and being greeted by the delightful smell of donuts, I restrained myself from doing a H Simpson impression and proceeded to order my usual half dozen...Luckily, they had plenty of the flavors I wanted...I paid, made small talk with the donut guy and left...There are no better donuts than Winchell's....Suck it Krispy Kreme

I make the effort to go into the establishment and try their products. Every place has their own style of filled and what have you. The coconut was dry, when it should be moist and the dough, well it tasted dry and like it came out of a store bought box

This Winchell's has been around since I was a teenager at least. Was the only half-way decent doughnut spot (or donuts made how I grew up on them and liked at least) in West Omaha where I was locked into back then. Couldn't hop down to Pettit's downtown before school. Flash-forward 20 years and I am working right by the old doughnut shop. Not much has changed in the small place-if anything has changed-which is fine by me. I don't really go here for doughnuts, but to grab breakfast for lunch quite a bit. They have some very reasonable hot breakfast sandwiches and deli sandwiches and they are quick to grab. The croissant and bagels you may choose for your sandwich are made on site of course-but the eggs and all of that are microwaved and put on the sandwich. So this is no gourmet experience, but a good price for a good sized sandwich that tastes fine. Service here is quick-and words and niceties are kept to a minimum.

I hate this place, I seem to always give it a second chance when Krispy Kreme doesn't have the Hot & Fresh sign on, the donuts suck, they're just dry and crumbly and leave a bad taste in my mouth It's pretty hard to screw up donuts, but these guys figure out how to

I really like this Winchell's. They have really tasty apple fritters. They make a couple other types of fritters as well, but apple is my go to donut. If you are looking for Krispy Kreme, go to Krispy Kreme. They make different types of donuts. If you like Dunkin' Donuts you should give Winchell's a try, but if all you want is the warm sticky Krispy Kreme donuts this is the wrong place.
