This is a Joe's Crab Shack with a slightly better selection. Maybe we went on an off night, however we started out with the calamari which was rubbery and tasteless. I ordered the seared tuna which had a slight hint of flavor. My fiance ordered the fish and chips. The "chips" or some potato creation was pretty good, the fish was not bad either. Beer list was pretty good, but I have never seen a restaurant list a "wine cooler type drink" as a microbrew. Overall, I would not go back. I had heard such good things about this restaurant and was very disappointed.

My husband loves this place for their oysters and I love their clam strips. It is hard to find non-fried options on the menu but they do offer some grilled options and pasta but it seems as if fried is the way to go. The grilled salmon I tried was a little dry and the veggies were bland. Stick with the oysters, fish sanwich, tacos, shrimp and clam strip... all yummy!

I went to dinner and to happy hour. Both of my experiences were great. The staff was friendly and helpful. Everything was brought out at a timely manner. I had the blue point oysters during happy hour and they were delicious. I ordered a bunch of little dishes to try: calamari and bbq grilled wings. Omg! The wings were delicious. Who would have thought at a seafood restaurant. The calamari was average. We also ordered fish tacos. I wasn't impressed with them. When we went to dinner, they had some special and we ordered that. It was amazing! Sadly, i dont remember what it was. Definitely a must try if you haven't gone.

I had the swordfish steak which was priced at $12.99 on their website menu but I as charged $13.99 when I ordered. I must admit I noticed on their site the fine print that said, prices subject to change, which is basically a CON!! This location's decor is much like some fish shacks on finds on the Gulf in Fl or TX. grubby but sort of cool. About my meal; I wanted the fish & chips but when I asked the server what it was & if it was Fresh, she was honest & told me it was frozen. So much for Absolutely Fresh. Anyway, as I mentioned, I ordered the grilled Swordfish which was served w some sort of Cajun rice & veggies. Now I watch very closely my salt intake because, especially at restaurants, they generally put enough salt & sugar on food to kill a person but I forgot to ask how the rice was done. A few minutes after ordering I realized the fact that the rice was probably total salt so when the server was passing by, I asked her if the rice was very salty & she unhesitatingly told me YES. So I asked her if I could substitute it for Slaw. She said, no problem. And to cut to the chase, the fish could have been fresh or frozen as it was very dry. The size was about 4oz., 5" l, x 2.5" w & 1/2" thick. The Slaw was just edible, the veggies classic BS, salty, greasy, & sweet. Oh forgot to mention that they brag about using Trans Fat free cooking grease which as you may know is ILLEGAL to use in a lot of cities! Go figure! 2 thumbs down!!!

Totally non traditional restaurant, it shares space with the same company's fish market. Very cozy, homy feel. Service was outstanding, she kept our beverages full and answered all of our questions fully. She was great. Food was awesome and arrived very quickly. Great unique flavors, super thin breading. Although we weren't brave enough to try oysters on the half shell, they were very popular. They lobster bisque was amazing, a small bowl is all you need because it is very rich.

So I just made it before closing. I was driving like a wild maniac to get here. First impression from outside made it look like a little local eatery. Once I stepped inside the staff greeted me great. No one looked like oh my a last minute guest and actually the place still had quite a few guest eating. I ordered a bottled water but they didn't have it so I dived right in for a Michelob Ultra. I also decided to go with the fish and chips. I was in between that, catfish, and shrimp. If I wasn't on a diet I would have ordered it all. In less then 3 minutes my food was out.. it was even hot. Let's hope it is done and also not just reheated. Well after taking my first bit the food taste ok. Not 4 stars but at least a 3.

Love Shucks. Awesome atmosphere, awesome food. I like their shrimp and oyster po boy. I've been to the location out in Legacy, but prefer the location at 120th and Pacific. If you do go to the Legacy location, I recommend the Kellner's "Toucans are better than one" margarita. Brat

This is a cool little place. Tried the Vanilla Bean Blond beer very tasty and had the clam chowder suggested by the bartender. Excellent chowder! The service was awesome and I was treated extremely well by the staff who didn't bat an eye when I came in 20 min before closing. I felt bad and didn't want to order more stuff and put people out. The bartender and staff were awesome an asked multiple times are you sure you don't want to order something else? Excellent job I will be returning for sure!

Great seafood and even better happy hour. None of that freezer-tasting stuff - this is the real deal. I'm an islander and I know my seafood. This place satisfies my need for freshness.

Went here yesterday around happy hour. Our party shared a good amount of Blue Pointe oysters which where 85 cents for happy hour and so good! Other members of my party had calamari, which was light and fresh. Also the lobster bisque which was delicious and creamy. And then the New England clam chowder which I though was a bit too thick. For my main course I had 1 lb. of king crab legs with rice, veggies and bread. I don't eat crabs legs too often so I have nothing to really compare them to in recent memory but I was definitely satisfied.

We got take out from Shucks. The ace was very busy because it was a Friday during Lent. We ordered the shrimp po boy and the Lobster Roll. I felt like I was on two coasts at the same time--gulf coast and Atlantic coast. The food was delicious and brought back good memories. My sister is gluten free, and so we ordered off that menu. I couldn't even tell that the food was gluten free (no funny aftertaste). I would definitely recommend for anyone gluten free who has been craving some fried breaded goodness. I wish they offered the lobster roll without mayo, but I can't complain because the lobster roll was tasty for a restaurant in the middle of the plains.

The food is extremely fresh and delicious! We order raw oysters, crab dip and pan seared scallop. The crab dip is very well seasoned and tastes fantastic. The kitchen was slow and we had to wait for food for about 30 min. The owner offered us an almost half off discount for slow service even without us asking or complaining for anything. He said, "it just isn't right you have to wait for food for 30 minutes!" The most awesome restaurant owner I have even seen! Definitely going to visit shuck's again next time I am in town at Omaha.

2 1/2 stars is more like it but I will give them the third because service was fine and Blue Point oysterswere tasty, although small, as expected price-wise compared to the others on the menu. My main lunch dish was a bowl of gumbo. Disappointing. Not particularly flavorful, not that big, but worst of all, tepid. I like hot soups hot and cold soups cold.

Best seafood experience in Omaha hands down. I had the crab cakes, Nola style gumbo and a cocktail. Service was homely. Interior decor can be enhanced though. Overall, I thought the seafood options were diverse, affordably priced and well cooked.

Having just moved back from Omaha after living in Massachusetts for 5 years, I was missing some quality seafood. Enter Shucks. The menu was impressively diverse, offering a little bit of every coastal seafood from New England to southern. I had the clam chowda, fish and chips, and Portuguese style mussels. The clam chowda was a good chowder, more potatoes than clams but still very good. The mussels were a special but very very good. They were cooked perfectly, not overlooked or rubbery, definitely the quality and amount I was used to back in Mass. The fish and chips were ok, nothing special, a little heavy on the salt, and served with potato parties instead of fries. I think next time I will try something else, but there will definitely be a next time.

Shucks in Omaha (now 3 locations) is owned by the same guy who runs the Absolutely Fresh Seafood market, which flies in fresh seafood daily and supplies the seafood for many high-end restaurants in Omaha and Lincoln. Shucks is famous for their oysters, which are indeed delicious. I recommend the lobster bisque, and you can't go wrong with any of their lobster or salmon items. If you visit the 120 & Center location, make sure to stop by the fish market next door and pick up some fresh honey-glazed salmon and shrimp. The service has a laid-back vibe, but the servers and bartenders aren't lazy. They're always helpful and quick. The atmosphere will make you feel like you're in Key West or another coastal town, which is perfect for us Nebraskans looking for a small escape. Not the cheapest place to eat, but the food is worth the $.

Great happy hour seven days a week. Fresh seafood in the middle of the country. Went here while on a recent visit to Omaha with my daughter, the oysters were fresh as could be with half a dozen different types on the menu - the roundabout dozen is a sampler of two of each type available and a great way to try them all with the menu set up to go with the plate so you know which type you are eating - oysters from the gulf, east cost and Canada. Coming from the west coast I am used to great fresh seafood and have paid two to three times as much for some of the same oysters that I tried the afternoon I was there. Peel and eat shrimp, smoked salmon, po' boys, oysters of the half shell as well as fried and grilled were just a few of the tasty options available the day we were there. A full service seafood counter is directly adjacent to the restaurant and bar. Fast friendly service was professional and attentive to our needs. Needless to say, three dozen oysters along with three dozen shrimp and two of the best bloody Mary's I've had in a while later, made for a great afternoon. Shucks is a must stop whenever you find yourself in Omaha and have a craving for good fresh seafood. A solid 4 stars. The afternoon for the two of us with all the food and drinks mentioned above with gratuity was $94 may be pricey for some but, I have spent way more the same quality seafood in my own state. I will return the next time I visit my daughter in omaha for sure. 00030

Dinner was delicious and I loved the seafood shop, though I did not buy anything. It would have been great to purchase some of their amazing clam chowda, frozen perhaps. It would be great to buy it frozen, heat it up and enjoy it at home. I don't think I was clear - they do NOT have their amazing clam chowda available frozen. Please, oh please, Shuck's, consider it. I would buy it... I really would! I had the blackened Mahi with red beans and rice and veggies. All the flavors on the plate came together beautifully in my mouth. It was delicious and reasonable. Just the night before I had a 'special' salmon meal at Upstream Brewery. It was not hot (verged on cold), was tasty, would have been better at a decent temperature, but was TWICE the price of the Mahi at Shuck's! I also preferred the atmosphere at Shuck's. Get me away from the chain restaurant feel, please. I'm definitely comparing the two and at Upstream we ordered and before we knew it the food was on the table... man, we were RUSHED! Okay, I'll keep details to my review of Upstream, but since I had seafood at Upstream I can't avoid the comparison and Shuck's wins HANDS DOWN!!!! As mentioned in other reviews, everyone of the staff stopped by to ask how things were going, take drink and meal orders and make sure everything was good... and it was! I will be back. I wan't to go to the Shuck's on Leavenworth next! Can't wait to eat here again!

I have been coming here for years and I am rarely disappointed. Every once and a while you will get bad service and/or a subpar meal. But seafood restaurants in Omaha are like jumbo shrimp -- oxymoronic. A shrimp can only be so large, and seafood can only be so good 'round here. I can tell you one thing: Shucks is undoubtedly the freshest in the area. I love the continuously flux oyster selection. And if I had to offer advice to anyone who goes here: spring for the more expensive oysters. Don't do yourself the disservice of only trying the cheap blue points oysters, even if they are on special. The blue points simply do not pack the punch that you want in an oyster. They are bland. Good for first-timers, but if you like oysters you need to branch out and see what you are missing. Your taste buds will thank me. The happy hour is fantastic. The beers are cheap, and that is always attractive. Peel and eat shrimp pair perfectly with a cold drink, but sometimes they are over-seasoned and sometimes they have been sitting out for too long. Your mileage will vary on a few items but I think that is just part of the deal. They have some fried fare on special as well like catfish fingers, calamari, and clam strips. Always good but every once and a while it will be too salty or the grease will have passed its prime. There are a couple things I have tried here that did not really impress me. Crab legs that were mealy and saltier than the ocean. Scallops that were not cooked properly. A soggy crab cake. Shucks is not perfect (nobody is), and I am glad I never based my opinion of this restaurant on a single experience. Another tip for you: the chicken wings and burgers are surprisingly amazing for a fish joint. Try them. Seriously. Finally, let's talk about tipping. After some research, I have discovered that the tip jar in front of the oyster selection is solely for the person shucking the oysters. It does not get divided up. Keep that in mind and always take care of your shucker, it is not an easy job.

I love the feel of this place... part fish shop and part restaurant. And very casual but the food is excellent. I ordered their Crispy Cajun Basa. The whitefish was barely done... which is how it's supposed to be cooked. The fish and the little fried potato cakes did not seem greasy at all to me. Let's go back to the first thing I ordered... lobster f****** bisque! Why the obscenity? Because it was so incredibly good I would like to be embalmed with this liquid. Really. The richness is not for the faint of heart, but if you traditionally like bisque you need to try this one. Service at the bar was stellar.

I was so excited to get catfish fingers for the first time in ages. What I got was pretty overseasoned & the portion size of the entree was a bit lacking. The 'chips' aka fries that resembled squished tater tots were pretty overseasoned as well, which is crazy to say since I'm usually a big fan of lots of seasoning.

The day started off dreary and wet in Omaha. I had a full day at work and planned to meet a friend at Shuck's for an early dinner. It was raining the entire day. At 5pm, it started to snow! It was wet heavy snow with winds at 30 miles per hour. I was 45 minutes late for my dinner date. I entered Shuck's drenched and cold. It was physically warm and welcoming. Definitely a hole in the wall kind of place inside and out. But, they are known by locals as having the best seafood in Omaha. The paper towels on the tables were perfect for drying my wet face smeared with black mascara. I was immediately greeted by the hostess. Our order was taken within 5 minutes. We ordered grilled oysters, jambalaya and Neptune. The grilled oysters were grilled to perfection topped with butter, parmesan cheese and lemon. It was juicy and melted in my mouth. The jambalaya was tasty with some heat. The Neptune was a mix of different types of seafood with capellini and a light wine sauce. The portions are huge. It was a great place to catch up and hang out with good company and good food. I will be back. The grilled oysters are a must.

It's hard to believe a seafood market/restaurant this fresh and delicious could be in Nebraska (no offense). When I inquired about the freshness of the shrimp, I was told it had come off the plane just two hours earlier. Wow. The seafood tasted great, super fresh, perfectly prepared. Great service by a very knowledgable waiter, great beer selection, nice relaxed atmosphere... When I write reviews I usually like to complain about something, but I can't find anything negative to say. This place really deserves 5 stars. Bravo.

Totally did not know that Shucks existed in Omaha!!! I had a great couple of visits in the last 2 weeks. One was during the happy hour, at which we got 2 chowders, 2 beers, 12 bluepoint oysters, and 2 orders of wings for a slim $40. Talk about bang for your buck. Love this joint and excited to check out the other ones. HIGHLY recommended.

Best place in town for fresh oysters and seafood. Happy hour is a great deal for micro beers 2$ off per bottle and great deals on menu items. The peel and eat shrimp is fantastic and who can beat .35 a piece. At least a couple of times a year they run an oyster fest discounted prices starting at around 6$ per dozen. Very reasonable prices for everything on the menu at this location the food seems to taste better here at the119 th location. Do be prepared to have a long wait for food if you go for lunch during the week i recommend getting there at 11am. A very popular lunch spot for local yuppies. It fills up quickly and not many places to sit.

Very casual seafood restaurant which is attached to a fish market. Can you say FRESH?? We had oysters on the clamshell and their shrimp cocktail at the bar while we were waiting on a friend. The shrimp was outrageous. They have their own seasoning in which they boil the shrimp - really good stuff. And the bartenders are awesome. We then went to our table. I had the crab legs platter which was great. My friends both had the salmon which they love there. All in all, a great value, great fresh seafood. Super local secret. I loved this rather than going to a stuffy Omaha steakhouse.

I have been to Shucks before and couldn't say enough good about it. The first time we went we had the oysters, lobster bisque and crab cakes and really enjoyed all of them! So recently we suggested to another couple to meet us there. This time I had the lobster bisque again (super yummy!) and the fried catfish and chips. That's where I was disappointed. I don't eat fried foods often so maybe that's where I made my mistake. I did not like the fried catfish at all or the chips either. The batter was kind of thick and it was way too greasy in my opinion. I would definitely give this place another try, but I'll bypass the fried foods. I would give it at least 4 stars, but because of this visit it is just 3.

Just went to Shuck's on Friday night. It was packed (Friday during Lent), but we got seated quickly & the service was GREAT! We've been back several times & can't get enough of this place. I swear I could take a bath in the lobster bisque & the calamari is always a favorite of ours. We always try something new & we were stoked this time. My husband decided to go basic with the fish & chips & said it was the best he's had. I went with the honey ginger shrimp & I can't wait to have it again. We love that it's so casual with some of the best seafood around! You gotta check this place out.

Ultimately, I was pretty disappointed with Shuck's, and concluded it's doing more business off of location and theme than actual quality. Let me break it down into food and service. Food: Decent. Nothing special, but not bad by any means. The portions were weird - always either too much or not enough. My jambalaya was the definition of mediocre, and my wife's fish and chips were eh. They were out of oysters, but the mussels were good. 3 stars for food! Service: Bad, bad, bad. We waited for 30 minutes for a seat because someone with us really wanted to eat there. I can handle a wait, but the whole time I stared at 6 open tables in the main room, 4 in the auxiliary room. Our drinks (5 beers still in the bottle) were slow to get there because the bartender was chatting up a young couple, and we were visited a total of 3 times by our server, including taking the order and delivering food. Service: 1 star So with mediocre food and bad service, I split the difference at 2 stars. Go to Taita in Benson for a better seafood experience, or just find a Joe's Crab Shack for the whole "coastal hole in the wall" vibe.

I've been to Shuck's a couple times, but I really wanted to share my experience this time. Me and the wife stopped in to grab a quick appetizer and a drink on our way to another dinner (foody gluttony ftw). They were packed on a valentine's day night. We grabbed a seat at the bar, had picture perfect ahi tuna and Maryland crab cakes, a beer, and an ice tea (she's preggo) and were back out of there in no more than 30 minutes. Shuck's can do seafood better in 30 minutes than most places can in an hour. My hat's off to you guys. You're obviously pros.

I'm going to keep those four stars up there because of the excellent quality of *some* of the food at this place, but I have a new addition to the "avoid this at all costs" list. Crab cakes. Had some a few weeks back, they were appalling. Absolutely Fresh they were absolutely not. I've had some mediocre crab cakes at home, but these were the first I simply couldn't eat. I've even had them at home made from lump crab meat I bought in a jar at the grocer that were much better than these. Lucky me, I visited Baltimore a few days later and had crab cakes at three different restaurants to get this experience out of my system. I sent back the crab cakes and got a cheeseburger, and it was right up there with the best burgers I've ever tasted. I think I've mentioned how good these burgers are in a previous review, but it's worth repeating.

This place is a oasis in the vast landlocked Midwest. If you love seafood and can't take another beating at the local Red Lobster then do what smart people do and eat here. I had the lobster roll and it was the tits man. I also had the grilled oysters, they were just the most perfect lil bites of ocean salt, grill taste and parm. I assume they were that great anyways. I was after all loaded on oxy on account of my hand surgery earlier that day. Well (I think) this is as good as it gets for seafood. Its comparable to places that have the sea right in their front yard. They must put a lot of cost into shipping but they don't pass it on to you. It a great little place and we will be eating there again.

This time we went all out. Ordered the oyster roundabout, shrimp ceviche, calamari, and - of course - fish tacos. In short, everything was GREAT. My brother had a nicely seared ahi tuna steak sandwich. I tried a piece of the fish and I can't wait to buy some of their sushi grade tuna to scarf down in the privacy of my own home. It's that shamefully good. The fish tacos were amazing too, and the fish is really the star of the show, but I prefer the fried to grilled. Shuck's also has a great beer list (tried two new beers) and a killer Bloody Mary (see picture) complete with pickle, shrimp, lime and olives. This is the best of both worlds, fill up in Shuck's and then head over to Absolutely Fresh to buy more seafood! Note that the fish tacos are only available on Thursday nights.

I'm down grading a star. Our last visit to Shuck's gave me pre-review flashbacks. Ordered the calamari again and got a ration-sized plate of the appetizer. No big. It's a busy night. This time, tried the walleye on the recommendation of our server, but decided to also stick with the crab cake sandwich. Thank goodness the dinner portion of the walleye was so large, since we had to share plate that entree to make up for the teeny-little crab cake - about half the size of the bun. I'm attributing my earlier 4-star rating to the fact that I was still under the influence of those delicious mussels in red curry. I should've read my own review before visiting again: "the food can be hit or miss".

Pros: Not too bad for Omaha style seafood Cons: Not too good either Coming to Omaha for fresh seafood is like coming to, well, Omaha for sandy beaches and great surfing: delusional. However, everybody has cravings and if you need to satisfy your seafood craving but find yourself stuck in the Midwest, you could do worse than Shucks Fish House & Oyster Bar. I've had the clam chowder before. It was pretty good, probably my favorite thing on the menu. I have to agree with Terrance that the Appetizer sampler is way too salty. I had the salmon plate and found it subpar. It was too fishy tasting and I've had much better elsewhere. Overall, this is definitely better than Long John Silvers or Red Lobster, even better than Rick's Boatyard, but it's still seafood in Omaha and it still tastes like seafood in Omaha.

I truly love this place. I have been coming here for a long time. Their food is great (most of it), and it's the only place I come to for raw oysters, and I eat a lot of them. However, being a regular, I also see their price changes. And some are unjustified. Their oyster happy hour once reined in at .50 an oyster. I'll still pay the .65, but higher I might start to think twice. Their tuna steak used to do it for me, but last time, it didn't even have a pink hue (so much for rare). I absolutely love their crab cakes. They are the best I have found at a restaurant. But at no bigger than 3" wide, $7.99 for one is stupid. I understand inflation and rising costs, but sometimes, it's a little bit much. I'll always come back because the oysters are amazing, but going to a restaurant for only one thing doesn't seem like a good business plan for the company. Some things are priced decently, but things like their 6 tiny shrimp for $5 is overpriced, as are their crab cakes. I no longer order their entrees as I have been dissatisfied with their entrees. The portion sizes are small and a teaspoon of diced tomatoes and a few shreds of lettuce does not count as a side. I will stick to their oysters (although when I ordered 3 dozen oysters, the server literally asked me, "Are you serious?") Just because I am 4'10" and itty, doesn't mean I can't eat a lot of oysters. If there is nothing else for me to eat, I'll just fill up on oysters :).

I had not been to Shucks in about a year. Man, I went to lunch over a week ago with a friend of mine and I'm STILL thinking about how good it was! I ordered the Ahi Tuna Steak Sandwich seared, it was absolutely delicious. We also ordered oysters on the half shell as an appetizer and they were so good that I can honestly say I was actually thinking about them later that night as I was going to sleep. They were very fresh and tasty!

Really good seafood for Omaha. Some of the food was a little over salty, but that may have been because two of us got fried entrees. The fried calamari was one of the salty items, but would have been perfect with less salt. The grilled oysters as an appetizer were good. I'd recommend the Po Boy and gumbo.

What a great place. We made numerous visit to this and their downtown location. During our week's stay we enjoyed seven dozen oysters. A different variety offered daily including massive Noank's. Ahi tuna salad is the bomb. Perfectly prepared. Crab cake salad was superb. Hand made crab cake is flavourful and moist. Catfish fingers and clam strips are awesome. Thinly breaded and perfect. Louisiana crawfish chili, lobster bisque and clam chowder are all hearty soups.

Went here for happy hour (I think it ended at 6) and I must say it was AWESOME! We had .60 cent oysters and ended up ordering 20 for two people. Okay, for some reason I thought the oysters would not be that big but they were huge! This was the first time I've had gulf oysters and actually prefer them over the pacific northwest ones that I've had. Basically all of the raw oyster goodness without the burst of sea that I've grown used to. They were great, and I'm still dreaming about oysters right now. Every table has a condiment bin filled with tabasco and various other chilis which changes up the flavor. Okay, moving along...the domstic beers were $2.50 which was a great deal and we also ordered catfish fingers (they are correct when they say it's lightly battered - which makes it light and less greasy feeling) and we got an order bufallo wings. The wings were great if you like traditional buffallo wings - spicy enough and none of that sweet garbage that some places try to put on it. The coleslaw was also light and tasty. The place is very laid back (which I like) and reminds and had a Louisiana feel to it (nets, ocean decor, paper table coverings). Service we had was good. I really can't tell you about the other items on the menu (and boy there's many choices) but I'll probably end up going here just for the oysters (5 stars!). I probably give the other food about 4 stars. I'm defintely coming back though! Did I mention I had a 2 hour nap after eating at this place and I felt like my stomach was going to explode? It was guuuuud. Update: I had to take off a star because my other times there the oysters were poorly shucked and can be inconsistent. Other menu items werent as amazing but still good!

We have been looking for a decent seafood restaurant in Omaha for a while now (besides Sushi). We were surprised with this place. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of food. It was delicious too. This would not be a good place for large groups though, there is very limited space. Food: 8 Atmosphere: 7 Service: 6 Beer/wine: 6 (bud draws were only $2.50!) Overall - 7/10

Stopped by with my friend as we wanted seafood and I wasn't in the mood for Red Lobster. Walked in and saw the hole in the side of the fish market that was the actual restaurant. Wasn't sure what to expect at this point, but we went in determined to check it out. Ordered the clam strips for an appetizer. I was a bit surprised they didn't come with any tartar sauce or equivalent, but they were very flavorful and not dry, so didn't really need it. I had the lobster po boy and my friend got the fish and chips. Loved my po boy and my friend liked her meal as well. We topped it off with dirty martinis, which surprisingly were only $7.25 each and it wasn't happy hour. I will be returning again.. soon!

Love this place. The calamari craving comes to me at least every couple of weeks. Their fish tacos and shrimp po' boys are also my favorites.

As good as it gets for a land-locked state. I've been to this location twice. Both times the freshness of the oysters was incredible. I'm a raw oyster fan and have been for 30 years. These guys have the freshest around. The last time there we had a whole steamed lobster. Incredible!

This is some of the best, if not the best fish you can really get in Omaha. The oysters here are awesome! The oyster roundabout is super. The seared tuna salad is fresh and perfectly cooked. The actual restaurant seating area can be a little cold and drafty right next to the windows or close to the door. But who cares? This is good fish; in Omaha!

  • Jamie L.

I'm really back and forth on this place, and I think I've decided that I like their bar, and I like the oysters. The entrees are less interesting to me, or less successful. Stick with the fresh oysters and a cold beer. Then checkout the seafood shop on your way out!

One of my favorite seafood places in Omaha! Not only can my special lady friend score cheap, good blue points during Happy Hour but while she's slurpin down those goo-balls I get the pleasure of eating the best clam chowda I can find in Omaha and eating one of their great po'boys! I usually dabble between a basic shrimp po'boy or the cresent po'boy. Both are awesome and pretty ok priced. We get great service each time we go so that helps. Eat up Minions!

Waaaay over rated. Appetizer sampler platter extremely salty, is it camalari, the clam strips, or erasers? Can't tell, they all taste the same. Ask the cooks what a "Poor Boy" is. Not a clue. Please research. Omaha can do way better with seafood.

Let me start by saying I love Shucks. Yes - it's mostly fried seafood, but that is right up my alley. I usually start with 2 dozen Blue Point Oysters - $.60 each. How can you go wrong??? My wife likes the Lobster Roll and I go to either a bowl of soup or have a Poo Boy. The happy hour margaritas are good for the price and usually quite strong. I'll be back to kill off more oysters!! I didn't give 5 stars because the service can be pretty spotty sometimes.

I've eaten at this location of Shucks a handful of times, and everytime it is delicious. I am a huge fan of the lobster roll, but the crab cakes are really chunky and tasty too. If you are looking for a filet of fish, try the walleye, my husband's favorite, it is always fried perfectly and is super juicy. The oysters are nice and briney as well, just as a good oyster should be. On our most recent trip we tried the crab and artichoke fritters as an appetizer and I will probably get them everytime I go back now. YUUMMM! My other bit of advise, is to try the baby cakes instead of fries, hopefully your server asks you because I've forgotten to switch them out before, and was so sad when regular fries showed up. The baby cakes are like smashed and seasoned tater tots, super delicious and crispy. Overall, for seafood in Nebraska, Shucks is a great little place, and really affordable while staying very casual. I can't wait to try their new location.

First off, the environment was very laid back and casual - which we enjoyed tremendously. We were looking for a relaxing place with great seafood and we found it! We started off with the fried calamari and the 2-of-each-type of oysters on the menu. The freshness and variety of the oysters was heavenly. The calamari was pretty good too although a little too heavily salted for most of us. Main dishes: Pacific Red Snapper fish & chips, grilled Atlantic Cod, and shrimp skewers. Again, the rice was a little too heavily salted, but the cod was grilled perfectly. The red snapper was the freshest I've tasted in a long time and the shrimp was succulent. I would have given this place 5 stars if not for the excessive use of salt.

Probably the only place in Omaha that you can get reputable fresh oysters. When we went, they had six selections of oysters and most were from the east coast. Great place in town to get fresh oysters. Ordered the fish and chips and the 'chips' were actually mini hashbrown...which were delicious! Wasn't quite sure on the fish though. Although it tasted fresh, the batter was a little too salty for me. Ordered the calamari and it wasn't bad, but I'd recommend not ordering the clam chowder....it was actually bland and probably the weirdest tasting clam chowder I've had.

The food here is amazing. I had a shrimp Po Boy on my first visit and I'll swear it's the best shrimp I have ever had. It was almost fluffy and buttery, I've never had shrimp cooked that well. The tartar sauce and bread were really good too. The potato cakes I really liked a lot too. I took home some pickled herring from the market side and it was delicious too. I've been back here on several occasions and tried several menu items. It's all super fresh with the market on the other half of the building and they know how to cook things right.

Driving out to Shucks today I thought to myself "I wish Shucks had Lobster Rolls" and like magic it was on the special sheet for today! It was outstanding - lots of lobster - good roll - good coleslaw and really tasty little potato cakes. It was just perfect - and two Modelo's to wash it all down.

What else would you want for lunch on a cold snowy day? Well SOUP of course! I have ordered the clam chowder (chow-dah!) before and was craving something warm and delicious! Honestly, it is just as good (and perhaps even better!) than any of the cream based chowders I had when visiting the Oregon coast. (And believe me - I sampled quite a few!) It was creamy, buttery, fresh and full of flavor (and not "overly potatoed" as some places can make it.) - I could have eaten more! It was served with two sliced, buttered and toasted rolls (heaven!). I also ordered (and took home more than half of) the fish and chips. It was lightly battered cod served with Shucks tasty baby potato cakes, slaw and fresh tartar sauce. The batter had just a touch of spice, and the cod itself was light and obviously fresh. Even though I am not a big slaw fan, it goes so well with the cakes (that I LOVE do drizzle the vinegar over!!!). I am also a big fan of the shrimp po'boys, spider po'boys (funny looking but TASTY!) as well as many of the "fish house plates." Salads are good as well (only wish that the dressings were a bit more exciting - vedalia onion is as adventurous as it gets.) Shucks is my favorite place for seafood at lunch time in O! Yummy! :)

3.5 stars I came here for lunch today and it was good, but not great, probably because I was over-hyping it in my head because of all the other great reviews. I got a dozen blue points (95cents each!--very good price) and the lobster bisque. The blue points were great, nice and tasty and the lobster bisque was just allright, nice and creamy but could use more lobster! I'd give it 4 stars if they didnt have plastic utensils and if they could shuck the oysters better! I definitely don't like to waste especially with seafood and whoever shucked it, did not do a very good job and left a good portion of the stalk on each shell. I would've been able to pick it off, but my PLASTIC fork was too flimsy to pick at it. It wouldve gotten 5 stars, if they had more of a diverse menu. They sell crab legs in their market portion of the place but it was no where to be found on the menu. A lobster roll wouldve been nice too! Anyway, this place is definitely a step in the right direction of what Omaha needs. I'll be back.

Well, I was going to give this a 5 star, but decided that even though it was really good food and atmosphere, I've been to better places like this on the east and west coast. As far as this being in Omaha, this place it awesome! I had the Grouper sammich (yes, it's spelled like that in the menu lol) and some oysters. The sandwich was very good, the only thing was that the menu says "sammich and chips" which I though were fries since Fish and Chips are fish and fries, not the case however, I got a bag of chips, pretty stupid... The oysters I tried were very good with the sauce and tabasco. The waitresses were friendly and prompt and quickly refilled my beer without asking. I think overall I would have to give this place a 4.5 stars, no other place in town like this and it has the "by the ocean" look and feel, which is pretty cool. I will definitely be going back, perfect for lunch/dinner or a date!

Well, I've read and heard and until Tuesday, hadn't tried it. Boy Howdy I missed a good one! It was crowded and I was alone so I sat at the bar ( this is the only reason this review isn't 5 stars) I waited and finally had to get someones attention before being served. I had the grilled shrimp and it was awesome!!!! After finally being acknowledged as a single "non person" , I engaged one of the back bar people and his description of Fridays during Lent convinced me not to show up tomorrow, when I'll be back in Omaha. Pretty much assured I will be back. This is indeed a winner!!!!!!

This is my personal favorite for Happy Hour in O-town (I know; I really need to get out more). Shucks ain't fancy, quite the opposite, but the beer selection is eye-opening, and the drink specials are downright reasonable. The oysters and other appetizers add some variety to the hackneyed townwide Happy Hour fare, and the atmosphere is easygoing. I struggle to defame the jukebox even though I majored in defamation at university. The fact this is all connected to a fish market is amusing. Add some karoke, a dancefloor or a disco ball, and Shucks will defy all description. This is mildly off-topic, but is there anything better than battered walleye fried in lard?

Shucks is one of my favorite places to eat seafood in town when I'm not feeling like a whole to-do for dinner. The place is in the back corner of the 'Absolutely Fresh Seafood Market' and is really about as 'dive' as you can get, except for the quality of the food. Everything that they serve is fish from their market, which is (as the name implies) absolutely fresh. In addition, the oysters are always delicious, and they always have new kinds to try (try the roundabout! 2 of every kind on the menu!) It's great place for lunch or dinner with a wonderful atmosphere and no pomp. In addition, I can't imagine that the seafood's awesomeness will ever disappoint. PS: If you get there and aren't open yet, it's because they are all up at Bailey's, go there and have a phenomenal breakfast.

I've been before and had shrimp and while it was good, I've had better. I'm a Florida girl, born and bred, so I tend to be picky, but this time, I ordered their trout almandine and it was truly amazing -- not overcooked, flaky, perfectly baked. My son had crab cakes which he wolfed down and declared "amazing." It took a while to get our meal, but it was busy, and when the meal is that good upon delivery, I can forgive a bit of a wait. We were waited *on* promptly, and brought something to drink, so the service was perfectly fine.

We've been several times with good results. The oysters are really the thing to get. We did have poor luck with some crab (smelled fishy... not what you want for freshness), but since then we've been back 3 times and just gone with the oysters, which are well priced and delicious! Great for lunch or after work.

This is a really excellent fish house. My girlfriend used to live on the Gulf Coast and said that this place reminds her of the authentic fish places down south. The Shrimp Cargo is amazeballs, and their po' boys are delicious.

I was NOT impressed at all. My boyfriend and I were super stoked to try this place out since we heard such great things about it. I had the soft shell crab and he had the fried oysters. The soft shell crab was over cooked and tasted like a bunch of fried grease. Horrible. The crab was also pretty small. I would never order it again. My boyfriend ordered oysters on the half shell only to get the fried oysters which he ate instead. They didn't taste fresh at all. I also got the seafood gumbo. I hated every bite of it. Overall, it was a terrible experience with the food. The service was fantastic though. So, kudos for that at least. We won't be returning any time soon if ever. So disappointing.

Great local fish monger. I had an appetizer selected from the retail market and the Salmon for lunch. For a small local market, the food was top notch and the service superb.

As a frequent non-executive business traveler, It's often an ordeal to find a great place to relax, have a drink to unwind, and have some great food. Shucks (inside this Absolutely Fresh Seafood store) was one of my best finds. If you prefer your perfectly cooked Sea Bass or Pan Seared Sea Scallops on fine china with all the pomp and circumstance, this is not the place for you, please head on over to Bonefish Grill. If you want to rub elbows with the locals without attitude and and get the same quality food in a modest setting for 1/3 the price of Bonefish this is your spot. I've been traveling to Omaha for the past few years and have been kicking myself all night for not trying them sooner. Well kept local secret and the Lobster Bisque was some of the best I've ever had - although not much in the Lobster meat department and my only real complaint. I can't wait to try something else the next time I'm in town.

We got a suggestion to visit Shucks when we were in town and we are SO glad we listened! The fish house had a lot of character and good atmosphere. The wait staff was knowledgeable, attentive and prompt. Food was served very quickly (surprisingly quick). We ordered a bowl of clam chowder and the Crispy Cajun Basa. Everything was fantastic! The basa was lightly breaded and fried, but so delicately done that it did not taste too greasy or heavy. The basa was served with "chips", or baby potato cakes, and coleslaw, both of which were also enjoyable. The clam chowder was the best I have ever had. It was so creamy and flavorful. It tasted like all of the ingredients were fresh (was the bowl made just for me?) and not pulled out of a can, as most clam chowders I have tasted. Fabulous. Excellent. I think I might go back for lunch today...

Very good selection of Oysters, solid seafood. I don't put to much credence in comparisons to coastal places anymore. Modern shipping has pretty much erased the notion that a place has to be right next to the ocean to be good. This place is very good. The cioppino is about the best I have had anywhere.

  • Rosalina R.

Let me first start this review by saying that I really, really, really wanted to love Shucks as much as I love Baileys, but I just didn't. Maybe my expectations were just a bit too high...maybe I ordered the wrong dish...or maybe Shucks just isn't as great as everyone makes it out to be. I had grilled shrimp on a skewer. I wanted peel and eat shrimp but couldnt find any on the menu, thus I settled for the skewers. They were overcooked and dry, not the succulent shrimp I was hoping for. Oh well, I can't say I had a terribel experience here, but I wasn't blow away either, it was kinda like a blind date without a spark...I'll probably give shucks a second chance, you never know it could be a diamond in the rough...or not.

Great little hole in the wall in same facility as local seafood market. Good fresh seafood and reasonable (not cheap) prices. Service was prompt and friendly.

As others have noticed, the appetizers are way too salty. Granted this place is well above nasty Long John Silver's but I'd pay the money to go to Bonefish instead.

All the fresh seafood you can think of or want. From Escolar to alligator you can't go wrong. That is the Absolutly Fresh side of the house. Shucks the bar side is a local dive with good drinks and easiness. I wish I lived in the Big O, this would be my spot! Upon walking in I was just expecting a lil bar and a guy shucking oysters. Yeah they have that. They also have a serious seafood/fish market. I live in Ventura California and don't have this much fresh and frozen seafood at my door. On top of having mass amounts of the hard to find escolar fish they have frozen premade crab potpies, (real) andouille sausage, alligator meat, frog legs, and escargot. Heaven to me :) Since I'm just visiting my home town, I just came through for the oyster happy hour. Blue Point, Piper Point, and North Shore oysters shucked right there and served with lemon and horseradish. It gets no better.oyster lovers should pack this place out for the happy hour. The oysters were some of the freshest I have ever had...sorry West Coast. Shucks keep doin' the damn thang!

Fantastic little fish joint. I went there wanting to try some different types of fish and they sure do have a good selection. Also is a fish "market". This is the only place I've found in town to get sushi grade fish. They also have other specialty items like gator and octopus if you're into that sort of thing.

I grew up on the plains in northeastern Colorada, so some might argue that I wouldn't recognize good seafood if it came up and bit me. So is this a place for great seafood in Omaha? All I know is that I liked it, and I've certainly been in places in Omaha where the seafood wasn't as good. The atmosphere was casual...very casual...almost a "dive", as Jason U. says. The prices were reasonable, the beer selection was decent, and the service was good. I'll definitely be spending more time in this place in the future.

This is an amazing little place for fresh seafood in Omaha. The beer selection is fantastic, the oysters are perfect, and the specials have been good on each of my last three visits. I have not been disappointed with anything about this place, other than it is small, so if you go with a group larger than 4, be prepared to wait for an hour. Even the fish and chips, which are hash browns in a small patty, are excellent. I always suggest this place now when going out to eat. I love seafood, and this place is cheap enough to go to often, and has fresh fish here in Nebraska!

Heard folks rave about this place for quite awhile before we tried it. Well, now I know what the raving was about. What makes it so good? Simply put, it's fresh fabulous fish in a casual atmosphere that won't kill your budget. Clam Chowder is outstanding, rich creamy and loaded with clams and cream. We've had many items on the menu, but, one that I order more often than not is the Basa. This is the first place I've ever had it and it is simply wonderful. I liked fried (what's not to like); it's lightly breaded, but crispy with flakey white mild fish. If you like the fish and chips, give this a try, I think you'll like it. Ok, let's talk about those sinful baby cakes . . . OMG . . . what a treat. Don't forget to stop by the fish store and pick up some goodies to take home. The shrimp Ceviche is a must to have on hand. Low cal yummy goodness makes you feel like you're being bad, but it's oh so good for you. Try it on everything . . . eggs (yep), bread, cold or hot taco's, pasta, you name it, it works. (well, I'm not sure about peanut butter, but hey, I'm not judging, go for it). Great dining value for your dollar and a good beer selections too.
