Shuck's is another regular restaurant of mine. I have always rated this a 3 star but it would get four stars if it just wasn't so pricey for what you get. Dinner tonight started with a dozen blue point oysters. Wed is oyster night and they are on special for $8.99. As I mentioned above, this place and get a bit pricey so I ordered the oysters. Well, I wish I would have kept my money in my pocket. Those were 12 of the saddest, most tasteless, little oysters I have seen in awhile. The entree tonight was the Kowloon Shrimp Pasta. This came on a recommendation from a friend. I enjoyed this entree. Nothing fancy but tasty. Noodles, shrimp and some steamed vegetables in a Thai sweet chili flavored sauce. Daughter ordered the cheeseburger and fries. Nicely prepared and they cooked it properly as ordered (medium rare). No complaints but it was a $10 hamburger. lol Certain items here never disappoint but I tried a new dish tonight and enjoyed it. Again... if the prices were a little more in line for what you got... this place would definitely get four stars.

This place is in the former location of the old Dixie Quicks. The buildout they did makes it look totally different. But it still maintains that dive vibe. My swordfish with ettoufe was okay... but nowhere near as good as the Cajun Bosa I've had before. The swordfish itself was wonderfully firm but seemed almost too firm...lacking the delicacy of properly cooked fish. The center of the cut did not look like they overcooked it, but maybe they cooked too hot and ride to be outside too much. The beer selection was more than adequate for most folks. Service at the bar was better than average.

A must have every trip through Omaha! Went here with my boyfriend and both of us were new to raw oysters. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Over two visits, we had the roundabout of their fresh oysters of the day and the grilled oysters with butter and parmesan. All three soups on the menu are fantastic. Decadent lobster bisque, an authentic gumbo and creamy sweet clam chowder.

Love this place! Will stop here every-time I come through Omaha. Fantastic Bloody Mary, Ahi is extremely fresh! I was impressed!

If you have any complaints about this place, then just put in your pickup order at Apple Bees and go eat it in your Man Cave. I'm not driving to the coast for seafood, so this place is perfect. Enjoy!

Awww Shuck's...love this place! Can't believe how fresh the seafood is for Nebraska! This is our go to place for seafood Sunday. The happy hour is pretty amazeballs. We always get the oysters and peel n eat shrimp. Lobster rolls are also on point and gumbo is damn tasty. They make a pretty great Bloody Mary as well! Service is always fast and friendly. Can't wait to come in the colder months for some chowdah!

Shucks makes darn good seafood. It's so good, in fact, that I'm willing to overlook minor inconveniences or qualms like the lack of a host stand and the chaotic nature of this new location... also the fact that for $9 we were served 3 catfish strips as an appetizer. The hefty pours of bloody Mary's (served with pickle, olive, & shrimp), very generous quality beer selection and seafood so fresh you'd swear you were ocean-side make it aaaaaallll goooooooooood. In addition to the catfish fingers (which were nothing short of freaking delicious, by the way) I had the lobster roll w fries and washed it all down with a Goose Island Matilda. All well worth waiting for and returning for. Daily happy hour food and drink specials are in place here too, 2-6pm: absolutelyfresh.com/imag…

Good food. Delightfully non West Omaha atmosphere. A little pricey though. We normally go to the Shucks locations in West Omaha and personally the old semi-dive bar of this location really is much more fun. There's a small area of outside seating for dining alfresco. The beer is cold. We had two. The specialty drinks are absurdly expensive, ie., $7.50, and frankly were all not that special, but we still had two because we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food and were having a good time. The calamari is my favorite - a very nice firm texture without being overly rubbery and a nice breading with an unusual dipping sauce that is sort of between cocktail sauce, chili peppers, and sweet and sour. It's nice. The lobster bisque was delicious and very very rich. Companion had the oyster sampler and a lobster roll which he thought was very good. I had the shrimp pasta in alfredo which is a portion large enough to take home the equivalent of a midnight snack and lunch the next day. Service was very friendly and efficient. Our damages totaled $84 without tip, but frankly we'd probably go back again.

Used to be really great. But then plank opened. They don't have soft shell crab except for during specials now. Absolutely fresh used to be really great for oysters but now the oysters are just not as great but still good deal during happy hour. Still there is a clear winner in the seafood restaurant war for downtown and shucks is just a place to go when your sick of Plank

Came back this time for the happy hour with three friends. We dived into the oysters and they were plump, juicy and very fresh. One of the guys even offered us some homemade mignonette. We also got the Asian Shrimp and calamari. Unfortunately they were out of the clam strips which I really wanted to try. Basically, the beer was cold and flowing, as were the oysters. Everything was fresh and delicious and the service was friendly. I might have to hit this place up regularly on the weekends from now on to get my seafood fix.

  • Susan S.

Nice, funky little place. Great seafood. Great service. I think nearly everyone in the place attempted to wait on us at one point or another. We had the clam strips to start. Nice, lightly fried, very tender. I had the combo with the half of a shrimp po boy and the gumbo. Both were great. It takes talent to make fried seafood not taste heavy, but they did it. So glad we decided to stop here.

Went there for a birthday lunch. I needed a seafood fix and I heard that this spot was pretty decent well.. Our waitress must of thought I was deaf because her volume was at like 10! If you asked her a question she would have you look on the menu instead of answering your question. Or when she asked you a question she did not wait for an answer. She did not check back the cherry on top of that is that we ASKED FOR HER AND SHE NEVER CAME!!!! Her service sucked BUT, everyone else was OK. Since they split tips we gave them one but, if not then she would have not received one AT ALL! I ordered the lobster roll never had one before and I thought it would be an awesome experience but it was safe. No flavors really stood out. When I see people eating them on TV they act as though they are having an out of this world experience......me not so much!!!! Ordered peel and eat shrimp...... it was mushy and kind of boring. Was not in the mood to complain was trying to enjoy myself NO matter what! So what I think I'm going to do today is make this meal at home today because I know I can do better because my seafood fix needs to be FILLED!!!!! The giving of the 2 stars is being super nice because I do not want to admit to myself that I had a terrible meal on my B-DAY. Should of went to Hiro 88!

Love the Happy Hour at Shucks. They always have great specials, good drinks and friendly staff.

Have to disagree with Matt M. on one point: there is in fact a huge difference between this Shuck's and the other two: Pepsi products! Argh! I'll see y'all at 119th and Pacific!

Best seafood in Omaha and love the east coast fish house look to the place. Pretty good happy hour and daily specials.

Just for the record - so no one gets confused - there are three Shucks locations in Omaha and they are all identical.

Who can beat 60 cent oysters and $3 margaritas during happy hour? I decided to have dinner at this location with two of my girlfriends on the weekend. I personally don't care for raw oysters, the rest of my party enjoyed them. I decided on salmon fish and chips that were delicious. The chips were more like small potato cakes that were really good. My friend had a bowl of the clam chowder that was "okay." Wait staff were very friendly and returned on multiple occasions to check up on us. The ambiance is divey and try to find parking right in front of the restaurant since the area is not the safest especially at night.

Food...good. Beer....good. Patio......good. Overbearing wait staff.....eh. I love Shucks, I've eaten at the other locations several times, I have never had a bad meal. Truly, it's about time they got a downtown location. The outdoor seating is a nice touch and made it feel more inviting to be outside, indoors seemed a little dark for a cool May evening. Came here with a few friends for a girls night out, I felt like I was bombarded with food and drink orders every 5 minutes. We just sat down, and were greeting each other when 2 separate servers came up to ask for our orders! Geesh, give me a second to check out the beer menu...... After that, we got stuff figured out and got our orders in. We were notified they were closed at 9pm so we did try to move along. Besides a "rushed" vibe, this place had delicious food and all in all we had a great time. I'm just being a little picky with the service. I will be back, how could I stay away with fresh, succulent seafood so close to home?!

Great place for some good beer and fresh seafood. Their Bloody Marys are legendary (who else has fresh shrimp as a garnish). Try their baby cakes and don't forget to slurp down a dozen or two of the freshest oysters in the Midwest. We've been to all of their locations and we would recommend each and every one of them. The prices are moderate and as expected for the freshness and atmosphere. I recommend the Ahi tuna sandwich or one of their classic Po' Boys.

    (5)
  • Rob N.

I've eaten here for dinner and lunch a few times (love the po-boys) and the food is generally delicious. The clams, oysters and fish are usually out of this world. I tried Shuck's for breakfast for the first time last weekend and ordered the Crab Benedict. Being from the east coast, Crab Benedict is pretty common and normally made with FRESH lump crab meat. Shuck's generally servers pretty high quality fresh seafood, so I was expecting something delicious. Unfortunately, what I received was Egg Benedict with some CANNED shredded crab meat in the middle which had virtually no flavor (except for a canned mushy taste). Gross! Maybe I expected too much? They still get three stars because I've absolutely loved everything else I've ordered there.

  • John R.

This place is small, cozy and has excellent service. We had a great server who took good care of us without hovering. The people in our party had snow crab legs, trout and crab cakes. I had jambalaya which was good and I had enough leftover for lunch the next day. Everyone was happy with their food. The location may seem dicey to west Omaha folks. There is parking behind the restaurant down an alley, if this makes you nervous, just park on the street.

We wanted to try Shuck's breakfast, which is Bailey's breakfast, but at Shucks downtown....a little confusing, however, still delicious! The waffle maker was broken the morning we went, however, it was of no issue to me because I wanted a benedict. I always get a little nervous when there are more than 2 benedicts to choose from, but usually go with the classic because its a good way to judge any restauant. If they can serve a proper hollandaise, without it being broken or thin, I will return and maybe even get adventurous with the other options. I went classic, however, my husband went with their chorizo benedict. Both were fantastic, although the chorizo benedict would be a little much for an entire meal, too bad they don't have a mix and match option. The classic was perfect, as was the sauce. The chorizo had beans on it and the spice built very nicely over a few bites. Pricing matches what you would normally pay for a meal at Shucks, not the cheapest you can do, but you don't feel like you got a bad deal when you leave. I will eat here again. One more note, a kid's pancake breakfast has enough food in it to feed a grown adult.

  • Leo T.

So I had to go back to Shuck's. It was not a disappointment at all. I got more oyster shooters and this time I got their king crab legs. The crab legs came with some dirty rice, that was so good. Just the perfect consistency and flavor. The vegetables that came with meal were also very, very good. They steamed them, but not to much, like you are supposed to. Then they added a sauce to them to give them this incredible flavor. I got a pound of crab legs, and that was more than enough for me. They were fresh and delicious like the ones back home(Oregon). Oysters, again were so good.

Go for the oysters. If you're into fried food it'll do, but we always end up leaving feeling like we paid too much for too little. They're sure proud of those fried coin-sized potatoes for some reason, and dole them out as if they were gold. Light eaters with low expectations will probably find a lot to like here.

  • Marie D.

Shucks got a 10 on a scale of 1-10 tonight. Everything was incredible and service was outstanding. I'm a tough critic and was totally won over. Good work, Shucks. And thank you.

  • Hazel A.

I've eaten at downtown location 15 times. 3 times I was over billed, 4 times they were out of oysters, and once I found a box staple in an oyster. The place still deserves a chance. I'm positive all these issues were accidents. Great shuckers. Lastly, buy the peel and eat shrimp--it's to die for.

The best seafood in Omaha! And why is that? Because the owner also owns Absolutely Fresh; probably the biggest seafood wholesaler in Omaha. The oysters are always fresh. My favorite is the gumbo and that is followed by the lobster bisque. The Po Boy sandwich is excellent and has the right sauce. All the locations have the same kitschy marine stuff on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. This location is an odd one and out of the way from most restaurants but close enough to downtown, the Old Market and NoDo. It is across the street from the Douglas County Jail. Cheap rent. Fun fact. The owner is from the cattle capital of Nebraska: West Point. He is a stickler on margins so the prices change frequently. But you get what you pay for and the quality is always excellent.

I've been here twice now. Once on a Friday night, and once for Happy Hour on Sunday. The oysters were very fresh and arrived fast to our table. I also had the fried clam strips, fried oysters, fried shrimp, and fried onion rings - all good. The peel-and-eat shrimp from the Happy Hour menu were SO good, but smaller than I expected, so be sure to order more than a dozen if you plan on making a meal out of them. All of the servers I've had were sardonic, world-weary, and over-worked; but also very attentive. The person who ran our cards on Friday night may have been very tired, as they were clearly handed two cards in two separate check folders, but still ran the cards for the wrong checks. Oh well! We got it figured out, and the food was worth it. It is like having dinner at your favorite neighborhood bar, but with REALLY good seafood. It makes me nostalgic for the small town bars I visited while growing up - just for the atmosphere, not the food - where the waitresses roll their eyes at you but bring you your food on time anyway. Thanks for being down-to-earth with out-of-this-world seafood, Shucks.

Here's the most direct review I can give of Shucks: Best sea food in town. Really. It's the best. The daily selection of oysters are always super fresh. The crabcakes here are also not to be missed, along with the crawfish ettoufe. Service is friendly and prices are solid for the portion sizes. I have recommended this place to several people who have been visiting from out of town, and it is always a hit.

  • Brittany M.

This place is PHENOMENAL. Prices honestly can't be beat and the seafood is so FRESH! The entire staff helped everyone in the restaurant and therefore service was fast and efficient. We didn't feel like we waited at all for our apps (the buffalo shrimp and calamari are to die for!) and our food came out right after with almost no wait time. We came on Monday so they had their crab on sale. We got 2lbs and the Gator brat. We were not disappointed and as a matter of fact kept saying how EVERYONE needs to try this place! We will definitely make the 3 hour trip to come back!

This is the place to go in Omaha on a Lenten Friday when all the Catholic parishes are too packed with people looking for a good fish fry. I was in town visiting my parents when we showed up at 5:30 on a Friday night. It was busy but we were seated right away. I have to say, our waitress might be the friendliest person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She was fantastic! Because I cannot eat anything fried, my options were limited but not horribly so. I went with the Ahi Tuna appetizer as my meal with a side order of veggies. The tuna was perfectly seared and not at all overcooked. I've had better tuna sure, but when in the middle of the country and ordering seafood, one cannot be overly picky. This tuna was not the best of the best but it was pretty darn great with that melt-in-your-mouth experience. The seaweed salad that came with it was very well dressed and quite tasty. If I ever come back to Shuck's, which I'm sure I will since my parents are regulars, I will absolutely order this again. It was delicious! For being a Midwestern fish house and oyster bar, Shuck's is surprisingly good at seafood. My parents, both meat and potatoes kind of folks, love this place. My dad raves about their fish and chips while my mom is quite the fan of the crabcake sandwich. Don't be leary because you're in Nebraska and think you need to eat steak; order the damn fish, enjoy the friendly service, and revel in your meal.

Come for Happy Hour 2-6! Crazy that oysters are only .85 ! Great service for a local bar!!!

They even deliver...costs $5 fee to deliver and they open at 11am so you can get lunch in midtown Omaha by noon calling in closer to 11am. Bought for my wife at the VA hospital and quality was a-ok. As a word of advice...minimum order for them to deliver is $15 and they Do not make the Trout Amandine at this location like they do at 119th and Pacific...also, unlikely they'd deliver oysters/a roundabout. Haven't tried it yet though.

  • Alex T.

Delicious!! Pretty sure I just ate 60 oysters. Great food, i ordered the Clams and chips basket. Perfectly breaded and fried just right, paired with delicate potato cakes and a side of coleslaw. Did I mention the 60 oysters?

We gave this place a second chance and boy are we glad we did! I loved the fried shrimp so much I had to order another plate of them. They tasted so good and fresh! The only other place I have had shrimp that fresh tasting and good was on the coast in Oregon! My fiancé had some blue point oysters that were delicious and on special for happy hour and the crawfish étouffée that was just the right amount of spicy. It didn't have the darker color that comes from a well-developed roux but still had good depth of flavor. We will definitely be coming back and hope our recent experience holds up.

Shucks never fails and never lets me down. Great service tonight and the food was delicious. We had the Muenster burger and some oysters on the half shell with an order of ahi tuna. First time at this location downtown and I will come back. Staff was really friendly and great service. The food came out prompt and made great suggestions on the oysters! Well done Shucks, well done.

Went for a late lunch. Greeted upon entering and directed to seat ourselves wherever we desired. Happy Hour 7 days a week from 2-4 PM. Also Got snow crab legs, crabcake, shrimp ceviche and the lobster roll. Crabcake was seasoned decently, but the texture was really off putting. No desire to get this again. Ceviche -was decent, but first place I have ever been that ceviche had cucumber in it. Not true Central/South American ceviche - so don't go expecting that. Ceviche was also part of the daily specials, so this may not be on the regular menu. Lobster Roll - came with coleslaw and French fries (both good). Lots of lobster. Snow Crab Legs - Good, slightly, just slightly overcooked. You know it is overcooked a little when there is no "snap" when cracking the legs and they just flex. Overall, decent. We'll continue to go here for our treat of crab legs.

The food was great, if you like fried seafood. Wish they had more non-fried entrées. I'm a seafood lover looking for great seafood in Nebraska. I know Shucks could deliver if the demand were there.

I am grossly disappointed! We came here for Oyster Rockefeller. The server informed me that they were 'out of oysters'. Imagine my surprise when the couple next to me ordered and received OYSTERS(!). When I inquired about the oysters, I was told they didn't have 'blue points'. Umm, well by then I was already put off. In the future, explicitly explaining the oyster options would be helpful. Food? Mediocre at best. We ordered fish and chips. Hard to go wrong there right? WRONG! You could (and should) cook it yourself at home with a box of Zataran's and it will taste better. My daughter's shrimp Alfredo...soupy. My recommendation...don't waste your money.

I was really excited to try this place out as this place seems like a local place. We were seated by the bar area, and the restaurant itself is small and very dim-lit. I tried the Lobster Bisque, which was nice and creamy, and came with a side of grilled ciabatta bread. I had an oyster sampler, in which I received 2 of each of the following: Blue Point (New England), Osprey Point (PEI), North Shore Gold (PEI), Westport Cup (MA), and Umami (RI). They tasted fresh and clean, and came up with freshly-grated horseradish with a slice of lemon. My sister had the Fish and Chips, which came with some baby cakes (crispy potato cakes) and a side of cream crunchy coleslaw. The fish was fried well and had a nice tarter sauce cream on top. I am glad I was able to check this place out! +Oyster Sampler

++ Went for a burger. Who does that? I mean who goes to a seafood place and orders a cheese burger? WOW. O.K. I did, that's who. My burger was tasty and fresh, I'd def order it again. Calamari was lightly seasoned and yummy.

How does Lobster not have any flavor... the authority on that question belongs to Shuck's! The lobster roll SUCKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDD! It was drenched in mayo! And all flavors were sucked from the meat. I was basically chowing air... or at least it tasted (or didn't taste lol) like that! OMG! I had such high hopes but this place SUCKED!!! I was going to just pay for it and leave but the waitress asked if I liked it... I SAID NO!!! She was SUPER SHOCKED. I told her that it did not have any flavor... no lemon, not seasoning, no butter, NOTHING! She attempted to tell me that all lobster rolls used a crapload of mayo. I explained that I have patronized several seafood restaurants on the East Coast and that this is not so... and Mayo can make all the difference between good and poor quality seafood! She then said that she would go back and ask the chef to make a seasoned Mayo. She came out with Mayo with a bland seasoning! I asked for a lemon-- I added that to the Mayo seasoning.... Still nothing! I've made lobster rolls at home and they were dynamite... and had WAYYYYY LESS MAYO! ADD CELERY AND OTHER SEASONING! I spoke to other folks and they said that they had the same experience with the Lobster rolls. And others have even said that the quality of Shucks has degraded over time. Most folks I guess go for the oysters... which I have never enjoyed!! The staff are usually nice. Shuck's--- Here you go!! Thank me later! bonappetit.com/recipe/ba…

I'm originally from the Gulf Coast in Texas so I'm use to salty briny oysters and very fresh, so I had my reserves about this place but I was told they have they're oysters flown in. The raspberry point oysters here my be pricey but one of the best oysters I've ever eatin. They're happy hour is decent with the blue point oysters only being 85 cents but blue points to me are bland but if you enjoy a mild oyster then this place is for you and if you enjoy a great oyster this place is also for you.

Took the wife and kids to shucks tonight and was quite please. I got the shrimp and chips. Shrimp was fresh and fried just right, baby cakes were delicious. My wife got a grilled salmon sandwich that was very good. Tried a cup of the chx tortilla soup as was very impressed. For the icing on the cake they had $2 cardinal pale ales on Thursday nights!!! Will be back for sure!!!

Shucks is great. Food is usually on point and staff is so friendly and welcoming. Lobster roll is filled with large pieces of sweet lobster meat, fries were hot and crispy with a great taste. I've also tried the Neptune pasta which was delicious! They seem to always have new specials every time I go. Beer selection is pretty diverse, many different types that I haven't even heard of. I'm not a huge beer girl but my friends are. Love to go here for a quick fast good meal lunch.

What's this? A decent lobster roll in the middle of fly over country? Yes. Also, shrimp, oysters, fish, and crab. And beer. Small space, so you may have a wait.

I used to get Blue Points, but then I started trying all the different oysters. Once I tried the ones from the north Atlantic, especially Prince Edward Island, I never went back to Blue Points. Yeah, they're out of Blue Points because of weather in the northeast. I love the music, the atmosphere & the staff. If you're too uppity for the diveness of the downtown location, try the west O sanitized locations, wimp. My favorite restaurant in Omaha by far.

First time visitor! The service was amazing and the food was delicious. I had the crab legs and realized how spoiled I am. I'm not used to working for my meal but totally worth it! I can't wait to go back and try the oysters and mussels!

Shucks downtown is quite a bit more divey when compared to pacific, and straight ghetto (i kid!) when contrasted to the 168th locale. It was completely empty on a monday afternoon, but still good for their word on happy hour specials. They did a great job shucking the oysters and keeping the meat free from shell particles, as well as lining up and picking out good pieces of boil and peel shrimp for our party. Seems like a simple task, but I cannot tell you how many gritty oysters I have had in the past. The shimp was a first time try for me, and at the happy hour price of $0.25 each, one cannot go wrong. One thing I have seen is different at each location is beer options.

First time visitor. Went during happy hour/dinner service with 2 friends. I was a little nervous due to the decor. Place was dark and seen better days. Our waiter was efficient but we all agreed we felt rushed through service although there was only a few tables being occupied. We thought the food was just ok. Not sure I'll go back when there are better restaurants in the area.

After having enjoyed the Shuck's in West Omaha several times in the past, we decided to have lunch at the Leavenworth location after visiting the zoo. Big mistake----wish we'd driven to the other location or tried someplace else. The first clue should have been the fact that it was lunchtime and the place was deserted on a summer Saturday. Note to self: listen to the little voice that says "Maybe not such a great option". We ordered the sampler platter for the 4 of us, plus lunch plates. 2/3 of the platter was fair--specifically, the clams and the calamari. The rest of the meal was grease-drenched and reminiscent of school days fish sticks and tater-tots, re-heated. The service was prompt and friendly, and the fresh fruit that was substituted for the coleslaw was excellent, but that was the best part of the meal. Sad for a $70+ lunch for 4. Will not return and will tell others to avoid this place. We almost always wait for coastal vacations to order seafood and this experience has reinforced that resolve.
